We put together a video that we sent to our family so they could see what our trip was like last year (Sept. 2K). This isn't your traditional, "fall asleep watching it" video. It doesn't even have many pictures of us (other than the funny ones). I think you'll all like it. We're going again this September and are planning another cool video.
These vidoes are now available from our *new* Disney Pictures site. You can access them using the "COOL VIDEOS" link at this site:
http://www.wdwpix.com
If you have problems with the Media Player versions, try getting a copy of the latest media player from here:

Glad you like it! We plan on taking more video next time. I'd really like to get some shots of the insides of more of the rides. The video took a couple weeks of free evenings to whip up. The hardest part was sifting thru the pictures and videos and picking out the stuff that wouldn't put our families to sleep. My family lives in CT and MN. My wife's live in OH. We use videos to keep in touch and give them an idea of what we're up to.
I also have about 400 pictures we took while we were there -- it's nice having a digital camera that is pocket size. We're working on a website to show off some of our favorite pics.
I'll post a link once we get it put together.

Fantastic video! Hubby and I just bought a new computer with all the extras and we just started to dabble in producing some videos, so I know how much work you put into that incredible video. I was planning on doing something similar and now that I've seen what a great job you've done, I am even more inspired!
Which video editor did you use? And how did you get it to be a streaming video?
:bounce:

06-05-2001, 02:42 PM
I used Premiere 6. It comes with exporters that will export to Microsoft and Realplayer formats (and a bunch of other formats). If you don't have Premiere, you can download the streaming conversion programs for free from Microsoft or Real.
We use the software with a Matrox RT2500, a great video capture card. I also used After Effects to do the opening part of the video (i.e. tickets and map) and Cinema4D for the gold spinning Mickey head.
I do a lot of this stuff as a hobby and also to keep in touch with my family. It's not too difficult, once you get the hang of it. The worst part is sifting through all of the video footage and pictures and picking out the best stuff.

Now for those of us who can't justify to DW buying a $900 capture card (WOW , but it's a nice card), but have a digital video camera, a 1394 input card, and Premiere 5.5 do you have any suggestions? No matter what I do, I always seem to get choppy video. This is using Premeire or the cheap editing software included with the 1394 card.
Do you know of forums or places on the internet I can ask questions/research my problem at???
Thanks!

First, thanks for all of the compliments. :):):):) I love them! :):):):) My wife also loves them since she made a few brief appearances in the video. I'm in there to, but so brief that you barely notice.
I guarantee that I'm going to put together another one after my September trip (hopefully the weekend we get back). I can't wait to go again. It's a drag having to wait until September -- but we're going for two weeks and will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge this time.
I'm probably also going to whip out some Disneyland video footage and see what I can do with that.
--- To answer a few of the questions:
If you are having problems with the video, make sure you have the latest Microsoft Media Player installed (version 7.0). The older versions and RealPlayer most likely won't play the video.
If you just get sound, try again in a few minutes. Sometimes the server gets a lot of traffic and cuts of the video stream. If this keeps happening more, I'm going to repost the video again. I'm also looking at posting another copy of the video that is half the size (i.e. smaller image) for slower connections. I'm going to do this over the weekend and will let everyone know when it is up.
For those of you looking into doing videos of your own, a good video camera with a firewire port and a firewire card in your PC with Premiere is just about all you need to get going. However, you'll need a modern disk drive to do your own videos -- since a LOT of data will be sucked onto your PC when you capture. All of the files that made up the original video filled 10GB (about 30 minutes of original video) of my disk drive -- although I probably used only about 4 minutes of it. The actual video, after I squished it down and shrank it for web posting, is only 10MB. So, you can see that a modern drive and a lot of space are musts. I'd be more than happy to answer specific questions, if you have any.
Once again, thanks for all of the compliments. I promise more video surprises in the future. This has even motivated me to finish up a Disney picture website that I've been thinking about. :)

>>I am not sure what you do for a living<<
I write computer software for a living, mostly websites for a large insurance company. I also run a little shareware company. I've always thought about getting into computer animation and video making (perhaps with Pixar, Dreamworks or Disney Imagineering), since I love doing it so much. The very positive and enthusiastic comments I've received here is making me seriously think about my future and doing this full time. :)
I also have a few piles of footage from Disneyland that I've never done anything with, maybe I'll get creative this weekend and whip something else up for you all. :)

Hi
I must say that it is a wonderful movie you made..
I have 2 questions :
- Which CD did you get the music from ??
- Is it possible to download your movie because I just
bought a DV-Camcorder and are planning to make my
own movie when I get back in September from WDW.
I just want to use it as a guide/inspiration how to make
excellent home-movies.

>>Which CD did you get the music from ?? <<
It was from their Millennium Celebration CD. We picked it up in the park after the fireworks show -- it was pretty popular, everyone wanted a copy.
>>Is it possible to download your movie because ...<<
Currently, the only format that is downloadable is the real player one. The other formats aren't yet downloadable. We are working on our Disney site and will post a downloadable version there, once we're up. I hope to be up in about a week.

Once again... thanks for the feedback! I love it! The only bad news is that I hit my bandwidth limit of the streaming site I was using for the high-quality version. The video was 10MB in size and the site was limited to 1GB per month of transfer. :(
However, don't despair, I have several lower-quality versions at my regular web site (both Media Player and Real Player)! :) See the original post for the new links to the lower quality versions.
Once July hits, my bandwidth limits reset and the high-quality versions will, once again, be accessible.
Thanks for all of the great feedback.
My Disney picture site (http://www.wdwpix.com) should open up later this month.

I can only echo what everyone else said here... it is truly beautiful. While watching it, I'm thinking to myself: This guy needs to submit this to Disney! I had called my husband and son in to watch it with me, and through tears, my husband says: No Disney commercial ever made me feel like this.
