Well, how did yesterday go? Whatever the scenerio, today's a new day and all you have to do is see it through the best you can. So, go for it, girl!
Make today a :sunny: healthy living day. You know that you'll feel so proud and so "up" if you treat yourself well. Do it for you! :flower1:

:goodvibes and a  and a :flower: for you, princess: Doe-Doe.

The air is brisk but the sun is shining on this fine December morning! I just have a feeling that this will be a good day! :p

I earned a few smilies yesterday for devotions, pills and water. Eating was healthy during work hours but not so healthy at home. Exercise??? I've got to get back in the habit! :p

Today:
1. Devotions - "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." Romans 12:18 :p
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - working on my third of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B was peach yogurt with walnuts. I had a PBJ for lunch, along with a Clementine and a string cheese. I have a banana & another string cheese for snacks. Dinner will be either ham & green beans or chipped beef over toast.
5. Exercise???? EDIT 9:45 AM - 1 mile immediately after work. Thanks for the nudge Amanda! :p

You need to edit your message from this morning and put down:
Exercise - 1 mile. :cool1:

You have a great plan for today - but you know putting on my mom hat (even though I'm technically not one) that you would do so much better if you planned out your dinners. That's all I'm going to say ;)

Have a great day today and enjoy your walk tonight! Stay warm!

I'm sorry to say that life got in the way of my exercise plans last night. I was far too busy nagging my children and having a meltdown. On the bright side, the basement and their rooms are cleaner and they are taking care of some long overdue obligations. I wish parenting didn't have to involve nagging and endless reminding and sometimes downright badgering your kids. :( The night ended with DD getting bitten by the dog (still sorting out WHY that happened) so I had to make a quick store trip for wound supplies. It was just a nip on her thumb but you know how the shallow wounds can sometimes bleed far more than something more serious. It has me worried, though, about whether I will need to have the dog put down in the future if this continues. I truly need to hand this worry over to God before I blow it out of proportion.

Today:
1. Devotions - my words and actions can be a stumbling block or a stepping stone to others. :p
2. Pills - just took them so I could put a smilie here. :p
3. Water - on my first mug.

I think I should just give up on the healthy eating and exercise. Yesterday's work day eating was healthy but there were some indiscretions at home in the evening. As I said earlier, I didn't do any exercise either. I'm feeling a bit down in this area. Instead of beating myself up every day about it, I'm just going to let both of these areas go as goals for a bit. I'll still be doing my best to make good choices but I won't feel as pressured. I'm feeling pressured enough in other areas of my life at the moment. Am I being good to myself or copping out?? I'm not sure, to be honest.

   Doreen. This is a tough time of year to have healthy living goals and when we're not achieving the goals we set for ourselves, we can feel defeated. I know I do. Maybe "Goal on Hold" is what you need right now? Just remember, though, that these healthy living goals are there to help us to feel well and strong. I know when I'm not achieving them it's because the balance is gone in my life; my goals for treating myself well should not be what's discarded--some of the other stuff should! :earboy2:
Maybe there's a way for you to remember the goal--to see remember what's good for you--but not beat yourself up for not achieving it? Just my thoughts this morning.

Hang in there, girlfriend. Baby steps.

Love,
Erin

PS Here's another thought. . .maybe you want to set a goal to have a couple of treats after work, but just a couple? :flower:

Sweetie I understand what you mean about being frustrated by our food and exercise goals - but ya know we have to do it. I think your food has been great! You are making good choices during the day. If you have some slip-ups in the evening that is okay! Think about where you were before - you were making bad choices all day long. Now you have them limited to at least the evenings. Another thing - take control - you do the grocery shopping, don't buy stuff that you know will easily tempt you. And ya know what - Todd and kids don't need that junky stuff anyway. Whole, natural foods is what our Lord intended us to eat. Exercise - now you know you can't give up marathon training now and expect to complete the 13 miles without being in some serious pain. It is okay if you didn't walk last night - make the commitment to walk tonight. You need to put yourself first and that walking is your time to spend a little one on one time with you.

Why are you beating yourself up? Look at all you do! You work very hard, you are a wonderful mother, wife, friend. We all love you whether you walked a mile or not last night. I see no reason why you should be so hard on yourself. So stop with the pity party and think of all the things that you do so well and don't give yourself credit for.

Your puppy - is this the first time she has bitten someone? Ya know dogs have bad days as well and maybe she was just cranky last night.

I know you have a lot to do today princess: Doe - and I hope you don't think that I am being hard on you. Ya know I love ya more then my luggage!

~Amanda

Doe, I'm sorry that you are feeling so down. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Get up every morning believing that you will exercise and that you will eat right but if something happens and you aren't able to get in the exercise or eat as healthy as you need to then let it go and know that tomorrow is a new day. Just do your best hon, that's all anyone can ask.

I'm sorry your dog bit your daughter. I hope you can find out what happened that caused her to do it. My dog has bitten twice in 14 years and I don't consider either time to be her fault and neither do the people that she bit. Hopefully it was just one of those things that happen sometimes and putting your dog to sleep won't be an issue down the road.

Thank you all. :grouphug: Your encouragement and support keeps me going! I can feel the love and caring and friendship shining through all your words and smilies and I'm grateful.

Yesterday, I didn't get enough water but I earned smilies for devotions and pills. I ate relatively healthy with only 1 treat throughout the whole day - a good day for me! No exercise, but I did have a lovely nap. :p

Today is a new day. It's Thursday and I'm getting worn down. These work weeks just seem to go on forever. You can bet there'll be a real party here tomorrow! :p

It will be a busy workday. I have a lot to do. Tonight's plans include a visit to the eye doctor's office so my son can pick up his contact lenses and be trained on how to take care of them. He's so excited! We'll also be finishing the hemming of his suit pants for the big dance on Saturday night. DD is working on crocheting scarves for her friends and I may have to help out - they must be finished on Saturday. Never a dull moment at our house.

DD's finger is healing. The puppy had something in her mouth and DD wanted to check to make sure of what it was. I can do this without a problem but I'm the alpha in our family pack. DD is right above the dog in pack order and sometimes the pup tries to test the boundaries. She has been banished from our bed and is sleeping on her puppy bed next to my bed. I'm making sure DD gets fed first. I'm doing extra obedience work with the dog. All this just to put her back in her place. She is still adjusting to the changes and trying to be bossy about getting attention, etc. so we'll just keep working on it.

Today's goals:
1. Devotional - Nothing can separate me from God's love - a good feeling. :p
2. Pills - Taken with breakfast. :p
3. Water - I'll be trying for 5 mugs at work, maybe substituting decaf green tea for one mug. If I need a soda for the caffeine, I'll have to drink it in addition to the water. 3 mugs down and no soda yet! I'll take the 4th mug with me for the ride home and drink the 5th tonight. I can do this!
4. Healthy eating - I'm ready to set this goal today. I've been bringing all my workday food from home this week and it really helps! I may not be low-carb per se but I'll be eating sensibly. Breakfast was blueberry yogurt with walnuts. Lunch was a ham sub. Snacks were a banana, a Clementine and 2 string cheeses. I also had a pack of crackers and some Reese's pieces with peanuts out of the EVM. I'm just hungry today! Dinner tonight will be hot dogs at home or a Wendy's salad.
5. Exercise - 7,000 steps on my pedometer. I've been averaging 6,000 lately and it's time to get a few more in.

If anyone catches me sleeping at my desk, please give me a nudge! ;) :teeth:

Good Morning Doe! You sound so much happier this morning - you are back to princess: Doe! Your goals look great and your menu sounds really good! You have a lot on your plate - so when you start to feel overwhelmed just take a minute to talk to God and I'm sure you will feel better.

It must be the weather or the time of year because everyone wants to hibernate. We were just talking about that at work today. Everyone here is extra tired lately. The 21st is the first day of Winter which also means the shortest day of the year. With the increase of darkness over light I think we all are wanting some extra sleep.

I won't be able to wake you up for your nap - I'll be to busy sleeping at mine.

Hi Doe - Glad you feeling better from your crappy day. I know EXACTLY how you feel about kids and getting things cleaned around the house. My family seems to wait until I'm close to a nervous breakdown before they help out. We have my brother and his family coming in Monday and I have "informed" my family, including my DH to help around here. We have dogs too and my children are very careful around them... they don't like to have their faces messed with and I make sure to keep little ones away.

It's a tough time of year... keep drinking that water and it'll be January before we know it :earseek:

Let's start the party!! It's Friday!! WOO HOO!!! :cloud9:
I could use some dancing to wrack up the steps on my pedometer! :p

Yesterday I earned 3 out of 5 smilies - devotions, pills and ..... EXERCISE!! Yep, my goal was 7,000 steps and I had 7,700+. I had 4 mugs of water, so I was close on that one.

Food? Have we talked about stress eating once or twice around here? Last night was a classic example! Dinner was mozzarella cheese sticks followed by a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey!  This happened after a whole night of running various errands and the night before a big meeting at work that I'm feeling anxious about. It was a recipe for disaster and I should have seen where the freight train was headed. By the time I recognized it, I was too tired and frustrated and anxious to care.

Today is a new day and it's FRIDAY!! :Pinkbounc I'm going to do my best to center myself in God's love and give all this anxiousness to Him. Then I'm going to have a good day!

Goals:
1. Devotions - I need to wait and watch for God's plan to unfold.
2. Pills - will take them with breakfast
3. Water - already on my second of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B will be yogurt & walnuts. I may get a Subway wrap for lunch. Snacks will be 2 Clementines and 2 string cheeses. Dinner - ugg! I don't know but it seems awfully far away at the moment.
5. Exercise - I'll shoot for 7,000 steps again.

My meeting is at 11 AM. Whatever happens, it will be over by 12. I'll be breathing a big sigh of relief.

Blessings and sunshine to all today!! :grouphug:

What a wonderful motto for my day - "You live, you learn, you move on!" That's me - movin' on!

The meeting turned out better than I expected and the weekend was a joy! A carby one ;) but a joy nonetheless! :teeth:

Today - a new day! As always, I'm thankful for a fresh start! There's much work on my desk but I'm feeling confident that I can tackle it.

Goals:
1. Devotions - "Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me." John 14:1 I'm great at asking God to take away my fears and anxiety but I'm not so good at believing He has answered my prayer, acting as if He has answered my prayer. Today I will claim the promise that if I ask, it will be given unto me. :)
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - 3 mugs down, 2 to go.
4. Healthy eating - Get back to basics and stay away from the holiday table set up in the office. I didn't bring any food with me but I'll make the best choices from the cafeteria. B = 1 egg & 3 small sausage links. L = a cheeseburger (bun included). Am drinking a Coke for the caffeine. Have not even walked BY the holiday table, cause I know if I see it I'll take just one thing and if I start then it will call me for the next 4 days! :D
5. Exercise - I have my pedometer on and am aiming for 8,000 steps. It's barely going to get into the 20's today and the wind chill is bitter cold so I may substitute an indoor workout for some of those steps.

Onward and downward, movin' on! :moped: :sunny:

Reading your journal I am reminded of a country song "Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." ;) He may be sending you the strength you need to work with your troubles, rather then making them go away. He never gives you more then you can handle. :)

What is your walk schedule going to be this week? Make a plan!

Le Celliers.....might be a good place for dinner on Monday night - will you still be there then?

Hi Doe! You sound very positive and uplifted today! Good for you!

I know that you can climb right back on this healthy living wagon. Jan 1 is just around the corner and I am feeling good stuff coming your way! :cool1: I am going to spend the next two weeks trying to just do the best I can - making the best choices possible in each situation. And I have promised myself a return to living the straight and narrow come the new year. Lugging these extra pounds around is making me feel more tired than is necessary. And if I ate healthier, I would have more energy as well. Sorry to take over your journal, but I think you and I are stuck in the same rut. Come walk the straight and narrow with me in January Doe! :flower:

Today is the winter solstice - the shortest day of the year. I always celebrate today because from here on out, the hours of daylight get longer! When you can legally only drive during daylight hours, the times of sunrise and sunset take on a new importance! :D

Yesterday, I earned smilies for devotions, pills, water and exercise (8,000 steps was my goal, but I had 9,600+ on the pedometer thanks to a mall trip!). I did great with my food all day, until we got home from the mall and then Ben & Jerry called me again. Fortunately, the ice cream is just about all gone at home so that won't be a problem anymore.

I'm so sleepy today. I've been burning the candle at both ends and not getting enough sleep. It's finally catching up with me. Beth, I don't know how you function on so little sleep! There is a Coke in my immediate future.

Goals:
1. Devotions - For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Isaiah 41:13 More words of comfort and reassurance - I'm holding tightly to them and banishing my fears of inadequacy at work. I may not be up to the tasks, but God, working through me, is certainly capable. Who knew He was an expert in data administration and data warehousing? :teeth:
2. Pills - will be taken with breakfast.
3. Water - 1 mug down, 4 to go.
4. Healthy eating WITHOUT the help of Ben OR Jerry!! :p
5. Exercise - 7,000 steps

Good morning, Doreen. You know, you always make me think of a sunflower--turning your face toward the Light and His warmth and goodness. With Him, you're going to face all the challenges in your day!

What were you doing at the mall? Shopping for family? I thought I was all done, but I never am. . .the earlier I start, the longer the season lasts, because I can always think of something else that should be done! I hope you're enjoying the magic of the Christmas as you dance the Holiday Hustle! :cool1:

DD is already planning a trip to K of P with her friends. She's going to enjoy those VISA gift cards. Did you know, though, that they have charges associated with them? Read through the little card that goes along with them so the kids don't get ripped off.

Say goodbye to your friends, Doreen. Those guys, Ben and Jerry, are up to no good. If you can just get them out of the frig, you'll be better off, I know it!

Have a good Tuesday, dear WISH sis!

Way to go on beating yesterday's goal of 8000 steps! That is wonderful!!! :cheer2:

I completely understand what you mean about desserts. Although I have not spent any time with Ben and Jerry lately;), I have definitely indulged in my favorite dessert of all time, cheesecake. While in WDW, I had cheesecake at the Bakery on Main Street, the Boardwalk Bakery, and Biergarten twice! Yikes!!! And that was all in a 4 day time span! :earseek: As a matter of fact, I could go for a piece of cheesecake right now!!!! Yummy! :cloud9:

I pray that the Lord would give you His strength to accomplish what needs to be done at work today. Take good care of you, Doe and stay warm!!!

Smilies earned yesterday = devotions and pills. :p :p

It was a tough day at work yesterday and I wanted so badly to just hide under the covers this morning. I told my DH "I don't want to go to work - they don't like me!" Does that sound pathetic or what! :p Being the optimist I am, I've turned it over to God and am doing my best to move on. I'm at my desk and in spite of wanting to escape within the comfort of the DIS all day, I'm going to post this and then get to work. Gee, sounds like I'm growing up and becoming..... MATURE!! <gasp!> :teeth:

The things that really matter in my life - my walk in faith, my wonderful DH & kids & puppy, my extended family and friends - are not affected by work. This is a comforting thought to me. I'm going to do my best for the hours that I'm here and then I'm going home. I started out feeling mopey this morning but the longer I'm here, the more I'm feeling determined to give it my best and to do it with a smile. Hard to keep me down for long! :flower1:

Goals:
1. Devotions - done.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - still on my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - had a bagel & a cherry Coke for breakfast! I'm not going to win any awards in this area today but I WILL continue to avoid the holiday table at work. Ben & Jerry are no longer at my house and they won't be invited back for a while. I'm just too vulnerable right now.
5. Exercise - I forgot my pedometer today! Yesterday I had 5,000+ steps.

I want to share a new book that I am reading with you. It's called Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen. Joel is the senior pastor at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas and his services are broadcast around the United States and the world. My husband and I watch his service every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. on our local Fox station. (We go to church on Saturday nights :) ) I started reading the book this morning and I am on Chapter 5 already. It is very encouraging and hopeful and a fast read. I thought I would recommend it to you if you are looking for something to read after the Mary/ Martha book.

Have a wonderful day today, Doe! Take good care of you.

Tracy, thanks for the book tip! I've seen Joel Osteen on TV on a few occasions.

Yesterday I earned smilies for devotions and pills. :p :p I'm getting really good at those two! :teeth:

I'll be very busy at work today so I won't be able to get to journals. Know that all of you are in my heart. :grouphug: My van shut off again this morning but I was able to restart it and join my carpool. DH says it's time to trade it in. :(

Tonight, we all get haircuts, I have to get the groceries for Christmas dinner, pick up my prescription, and pick up the kids' band uniforms at the dry cleaners. Tomorrow we'll be cleaning the house and getting ready for 12 guests on Saturday, as well as doing all the wrapping. We're hoping to go to the movies tomorrow night, since DS is working and we don't want him to feel left out or forgotten. Saturday will fly by as we entertain.

Sunday and Monday evening I must get the kids packed for their Disney trip with the school's music department. They leave on Tuesday. The chorus sings with the Candlelight Processional Mass Choir on Thurs. 12/30. The band marches before the 7 PM Spectromagic parade on Fri. 12/31. The orchestra plays at the Downtown Disney stage on Sat. 1/1. They are taking 5 motorcoaches and staying offsite, 5 kids to a suite! DH and I are staying home and will be all alone from Tuesday evening to the next Monday evening. ;)

I never did do Christmas cards. Oh well.

Goals:
1. Devotions - done.
2. Pills - took them just now. Thank goodness I write this in my journal every day - otherwise I'd forget them! :p
3. Water - drinking my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - I have staved away from the Holiday Table all week and will stay away today too!
5. Exercise - not much time for this in the next few days. As soon as the kids leave for their trip, this will be a top priority.

Into my day with a smile on my face and Christmas cheer in my hear! :sunny:

I only have a moment to post - lots to do! Today's plan - get the kids packed for their trip to Disney with the high school music department.

Christmas was wonderful! The food - heavenly! My weight? Well, I'll be avoiding the scale for a couple days! :p

Back to the straight and narrow very soon!

Thanks, all, for your kind wishes. Belated Merry Christmas to all! I'll be back sometime during the week - probably Wednesday-ish!

Hi Doreen,

I just want to say I am really touched by your optimism and ability to get your work situation in perspective with the really big important things in life! I needed to hear that, as I struggle with work issues, too.

I hope your Christmas was wonderful :)

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the holidays. Did the kids get off to Florida OK?

So, you're part of the "picked up pounds" club, are you? Well, it looks like you can join me and Amanda. I, for one, have to do some serious work here. Or maybe I just need to make a serious recommitment to the healthy lifestyle that I know really works! At any rate, glad you're getting ready to walk the healthy road again, princess: Doe-Doe. I really need some company.

Guess what? DH and I are going to join the National Body Challenge. The sign up (you can do it online also) is January 15-16 at K of P. Interested?
It lasts 8 weeks, just enough time to get us firmly back on the right track, don't you think? I know that this might be too much for you to think about--after all you've got a BIG weekend coming up in just 11 days--but if you're up for it, let me know. The more the merrier. Michelle's thinking about it, too. Go to www.discovery.com for more info. Anyone else? Amanda? MeMe? Beth? Tracy? Terry?

Take care, WISH-sis.

Love,
Erin

Erin, the Discovery Health National Body Challenge might be just the thing to jumpstart my fitness / health goals for 2005! Thanks so much for mentioning it! I can do the half on Jan. 9th and have a few days to recuperate before starting fresh on Jan. 15. I'll be joining you!! Maybe we can weigh out together on March 12th in KofP? Sounds like a good excuse for cheesecake! :p

I've solved my van problems - I'm picking up my new Subaru Forester on Thursday afternoon! :p

Life is good, as usual! Healthy living??? Well, I'm taking my pills every day! ;) I'm also trying to drink most of my water. I'm going to take it easy until after the half and then I'll start anew on Jan. 15th, with a freshly stocked kitchen and new resolve.

Where are the kids now? Have they arrived? Are they going to have fun in the parks for a few days? Sea World? Universal? Details, girl, details!

For the inquiring minds :teeth:, the kids leave for WDW this evening at 6 PM. There will be 5 motorcoaches driving through the night and arriving tomorrow around noon at their hotel (off property). After freshening up, they will head to DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney. Thursday finds them at Epcot for the day and the chorus will be part of the Candlelight Processional Mass Choir for one of the evening performances. Friday (New Year's Eve) they will be at the MK for the whole day and the marching band will march the parade route right before the 7PM SpectroMagic parade. Saturday is spent at MGM, with a bit of time at Downtown Disney, where the orchestra will play on the main stage. Sunday, they scatter to whatever park their chaperone & group decide on. Sunday night they board the busses to head home and arrive Monday afternoon.

My kids will be taking their cell phones so I'll be in contact with them whenever they want to chat or gloat that they're in WDW & I'm not! :p How did we ever survive before cell phones???

DH and I will have plenty to keep us occupied while the kids are away. Both of their rooms will be thoroughly cleaned (yes, I told them and they had the chance to clean before their trip). We may have DS' room painted by a friend who is a laid off painter. DH and I both work & he will be bringing work home over the weekend. Thursday we pick up my new car and Saturday we'll spend some time with family - it isn't New Year's Day without the traditional meal of pork & sauerkraut for good luck! :p Those are the only plans I can share..... ;) :cloud9:

I'm going to register for the Discovery Health Channel's National Body Challenge. I'm excited about this. I often do better with a fixed timeframe, like the 8 weeks that this challenge lasts. It starts on January 15th, a few days after the half marathon - great timing! I think I'll use The Firm as a big part of my exercise goals in January, once the half is over.

I've taken my pills and am drinking my water. I had a bagel for breakfast and will try to eat pretty healthy stuff for the rest of the day. No time for exercise though - will be starting on the kids' rooms tonight after they leave.

Thanks for the scoop! :earboy2: My curiousity (nosiness? ) is satisfied.

Here's another thought: what about a 10K a Month Club? Sometimes we could do it on our own from home or at a club on a treadie (I'm going to do 6.2 on the treadie on 1/1), sometimes we could meet up and walk an AVA event or a year 'round event, sometimes it could be a charity walk (independent or together). We could keep track and reward ourselves at the end of the year. Maybe with cheesecake? :earboy2:

I think I'm going to make this a goal of mine. Does it sound like fun to you or too much? Inquiring minds want to know. . .

Erin, I've been so busy with getting ready for Christmas and getting the kids ready for their trip that I truly haven't even thought about my trip yet. We arrive Thursday, have dinner with Amanda & Brian Friday, I do the half on Sunday, and we leave on Monday. That's the extent of my planning so far! :teeth: I'm sure that I'll be doing more planning early next week. :p

Last evening we dropped the kids off at school for their trip. Of course my daughter was packing until the very last second. DH & I came home and he was so mopey - he missed the kids already. He asked if I was sad and I said "no, because I'm the one that helped them pack!" Chalk it up to the perils of motherhood - we left each other on friendly terms but there were some tense moments as I searched for my daughter's band shoes and band uniform t-shirt 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave. Did all the nagging I had done for the past 3 days not sink in????? Arrgggg!

Today I drove my son's car into work. The van is safely parked in the garage so nothing can happen to it before we trade it tomorrow afternoon. :p

I do have lots to get done at work today, so I won't be lingering over journals. I promise I'll catch up with everyone over the weekend though. Tonight I'll be cleaning the kids' rooms and catching up on a mountain of laundry.

I use to love band trips when I was in high school. We use to go to Virginia Beach and we were ususally stuck on a band bus for 23 to 25 hours. I use to love it - I can't imagine why though ;)

I'm going to look into this national body challenge today and get back to you and Erin.

Me?? Sleep in??? NEVER! :teeth: Actually I was up at the usual 5:30 AM. I've just been busy working out plans to meet a friend tomorrow and haven't gotten to my journal until now.

I'm at work and of course there's lots to do. I leave at 1:45 to head home and meet DH so we can pick up my Forester. I cleaned out the van before I left for work this morning - it's amazing what I found lurking in the nooks & crannies! Most of it belongs to my DD, who leaves a trail wherever she goes! :p Anyone need any jewelry, hair scrunchies, pens or some yarn???

I heard from DS when they arrived at the hotel yesterday afternoon. I heard from DD last evening as they were headed to the pizza party. Both were having fun but were looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. :p Today they spend the day at Epcot and they'll watch the chorus perform with the mass choir at the Candlelight Processional this evening. They'll have mostly sunny skies with a high of 74 and a low of 59 tonight. Sounds heavenly to me!! I'm not really missing them or worrying about them, knowing that they each are carrying their cell phones and are very familiar with Disney World.

Yesterday I think I earned only 1 smilie - for taking my pills.

Today:
1. Devotions - need to read & meditate & pray.
2. Pills - took my meds but still need to take my vitamin.
3. Water - on my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - B = blueberry yogurt with pecans. L will be a low-carb Subway wrap. D?? who knows but I'll try to make it healthy.
5. Exercise - a 15 minute walk at lunch (to get to the Subway :p )

I'm also giving up the Coke a day habit I've been picking up. No more Coke! If I need caffeine, I'll brew a cup of caffeinated tea and use Splenda to sweeten it.

DH and I have enjoyed the past few days. Yesterday we did a volksmarch - 6.2 mile walk. The weather was beautiful - it has been unseasonably warm yesterday and today so we've been out enjoying it. Today we made 2 stops to fix computers at other peoples' houses and then met for pork & sauerkraut at my aunt & uncle's house with my family. Now I'm ready to hit the hay.

Looks like I'll be finishing the 2 computer fixes tomorrow and eating more pork & sauerkraut with DH's famly. Healthy eating will resume on Monday. :p

Hi Doreen and Happy New Year!

Isn't it wonderful to have a new vehicle to drive?
It sounds as if we all slipped up a bit over the holidays, but now it is almost Monday and time to get back on track for me! I will have to check out this NBC that everyone is talking about; it sounds interesting and anything that keeps me accountable is a good thing. I wish that my WISH buddies could come to my house every evening to keep me away from stuff I shouldn't eat. I deal with night time boredom, stress whatever that finds me munching when I really don't need to! Sometimes, when desperate, I just head to bed to avoid the fridge!

Hope your day is going well. I can't believe that the Disney half marathon is
almost here! I'm so psyched for all of you! :cheer2:

Today: Edited at 2:45 PM
1. Devotions: Imitate Christ.
2. Pills: paused just now to take them
3. Water: finishing third mug
4. Healthy eating: didn't start out too well - bagel w/ butter. I'll be eating a healthier lunch! ::yes:: The focus will be on eating smaller portions and avoiding sugar and no binging. Lunch was a cheeseburger.
5. Exercise: Did the first move of my Pilates routine this morning, along with some stretching. I've got the pedometer on and am aiming for 7500 steps. At 2:45, I'm at 3900+ steps.

I picked up the kids last night. They are worn out! DS has a bad cold and DD is coming down with it. They both took naps last evening and then headed to bed early. I'm letting them stay home from school to rest up and do laundry. They did have a great time and were excited to tell me some of the details. The puppy went crazy when they came in. She was so happy to see both of them that she just raced around the house and kept going back to each of them for pets & belly rubs!

Now it's time to start thinking about my upcoming trip! Today I must come up with a packing list that will let me take only a carry-on. We hate to check baggage if we don't have to. :p

I'm starting to feel my glands getting sore and my throat is getting scratchy. I think the cold is coming my way too. I'm abandoning low-carb and will be drinking a ton of water and orange juice today.

Today: (edited 11:30 AM)
1. Devotions: Sometimes God sends me people with a message I don't want to hear - I must learn to listen with grace and an open heart.
2. Pills: Taken.
3. Water: 2 mugs (24 oz) finished. Orange juice - 15 oz.
4. Healthy eating: B was raspberry yogurt with walnuts. L will be beef veggie soup. D will be something light - maybe grilled cheese and soup?
5. Exercise: Made my 7500 steps yesterday and will do the same today. Also did 2 Pilates exercises this morning and some stretching. I'm trying to make this an early morning habit.

Now, I'm off to do some work. I'm feeling bad about not getting to journals the way I'd like to. Maybe after the half.....

I can't believe it's here! My carry-on is packed - managed to fit all the essentials in. I have my race packet, my race gear and my bathing suit - and a few other clothes. How much do I really need?

For those who may want to follow the half online - I understand they will be showing times and pictures if you know the participant's race number - my race number is #20082.

I didn't have time to make my WISH Walker t-shirt or my WISH nametag. C'est la vie! It means "that's life" in french. :teeth: I refuse to stress about it!

I WILL be back on Tuesday morning - ready to walk the straight & narrow and banish this extra weight I have acquired. I couldn't pack my shorts from this past summer - they no longer fit. :( This has got to end because I am not comfortable at this weight. ::yes::

Thanks, all, for your encouragement, your friendship, and your support. I never dreamed I could do a half marathon and it's because of everyone here that I'll be crossing that finish line on Sunday morning. I WILL NOT BE SWEPT!

I've been humming a song from Cinderella - "A dream is a WISH your heart makes". I have lots of wonderful WISHers to thank for helping me make this dream come true. :grouphug:

Doe we have 5 months to get you back in those shorts. I think when we get back both of us need to reread "How I gave up my low fat diet and lost 40lbs." Hopefully it will motivate us to go back to low carb living.

I can't wait to see you at dinner tomorrow night! How exciting! We land at 1:20p.m. so we should be at the resort about 2:30 at the latest I would think. We are just going to hang out around there for awhile and see if we run into people. I need to run to Home Depot tonight to see if I can find some lime green mickeys!

Is your Princess hat packed?

17 years ago today, at 7:39 PM, I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy. Hard to believe he's 17 years old. I'm so proud of the man he's becoming. ::yes:: We celebrated last evening because he's planning a movie night with his friends tonight and DH & I have a meeting to attend.

Today it's back to the business of losing weight. Yes, I said losing weight. We can all talk about "getting healthy" or "becoming fit" but the truth is that no matter how "healthy" or "fit" I am, I am NOT comfortable weighing 155 pounds. All of us are built differently and I know others who look great at 155 but my body was not designed for that. My goal is 135 pounds. I'll be putting a ticker in my siggie soon.

I know that I can't make all kinds of changes too quickly. Today I'm going to make the best food choices I can for breakfast and lunch. Dinner will be low-carb. I won't make it to the grocery store until tomorrow evening. Serious exercise must wait until I'm healed from the half but I spent 15 minutes this morning stretching to ease my sore muscles.

Today: (edited the next day)
1. Devotions - Giver of all good gifts, stir up in us the courage and commitment to use the gifts you have given us, that we may glorify you. Amen. :p
2. Pills - left them at home and will take them as soon as I walk in the door. Forgot. :(
3. Water - drank 7 12 oz mugs = 84 oz! :p
4. Healthy eating - B was 3/4 C oatmeal, 1 tsp brown sugar and 2 tbsp raisins. AM snack was 2 tbsp slivered almonds. L was a burger, no bun, and 2 packets mayo. PM snack was turkey/cheese rollup & a few walnuts. D was ham & green beans, and 3/4 C ice cream to celebrate DS' birthday. This was a much better day so I'm claiming a :p!
5. Exercise - did 15 minutes of stretching in the AM and more throughout the day. :p

I'm feeling enthusiastic about getting this weight off! :sunny:

:sunny: Good morning! :sunny:

I earned 4 of 5 smilies yesterday - forgot my pills. I've already taken them this morning - not to worry! I'm proud of me! I'm really getting back on track! ::yes:: The scale is agreeing - it's down 2 pounds today. Yes, I know it's water weight, but it's still encouraging! :teeth: :Pinkbounc

I'm feeling a lot less sore today! I believe I'll be ready to exercise full out by the weekend. I've got my eyes on those FIRM tapes! Until then, it's light walking and lots of stretching.

I have been thinking about 2 ideas that have really helped me the past couple days. I read a post on the Skinny Daily that talked about "earning my inertia". When I used to get home from work, I'd figure that I had a long day and I wanted to relax before starting any work at home. The sad truth is that my relaxation would last all evening and I would do NOTHING in the way of housekeeping or cooking. Now I take 15-20 minutes and straighten up the house when I walk in the door, take care of the mail, set a time for dinner and think through the preparation time, etc, BEFORE I sit down. If the kids have left anything lying around, I make them stop what they are doing and clean up too. I feel like I do the work first, and earn my time to relax a bit. I'm getting more done in that 15-20 minutes than I used to do in an entire evening!

The second thought centers on how important routines are for me. It is easy for me to become overwhelmed with all the little things that must be done in a day. However, when I incorporate those little things, like making lunch, laying out clothes, cleaning the kitchen, going through the mail, into a predictable routine, they get done without me even thinking about them. I'm working on creating routines because they allow me to get lots of those little things done that used to overwhelm me. I no longer have to think about what all must get done tonight or tomorrow. This makes me less stressed because I don't think about my looooonnnngggg to-do list anymore. Much of it is taken care of during the course of my routines.

Today:
1. Devotions - The psalmist wrote, "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." God doesn't make junk!! He made me just the way I am and loves me right now with no reservations! :p
2. Pills - took my meds but have to take vitamins when I get home. Can I get half a smilie???
3. Water - finishing my first of 4 16 oz mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B was 2 turkey/cheese rollups. AM snack will be a handful of walnuts. L will be leftover ham & green beans. D will be tough, because DS is having a pizza party with his friends tonight at our house. I will have something low carb (I'm hoping to make a big salad w/ grilled chicken) and all the leftover cheese toppings I want! :teeth:
5. Exercise - it will be tough to fit in but I really want to do SOMETHING today. Considering my busy evening, I should walk for 15 minutes at lunchtime.

Onward and downward!! :sunny:

Doreen, I read that skinny daily post too and I need to follow your example. I usually let things build up and by the weekend I'm overwelmed. Good for you for taking charge. I would like to try to do that myself.

Good morning Doe! How's it going? You sound nice and refreshed this morning plus the scale is moving down! Yeah! Water weight or not it is still moving in the right direction and that is what is important!

At curves they told us that stretching is so very important and will actually help with weight loss. So if you are wanting to exercise today I suggest you do 15 minutes of stretching. They have a whole routine that you can do and it will really help to stretch out those leg muscles.

Good morning Doe!

Doe's gonna be a FIRMie! Doe's gonna be a FIRMie! :cheer2: Yeah Doe! :cheer2: When you start your FIRM workouts, please be sure to join us over on the weekly FIRM thread. I have officially been FIRMing for a year now and I love it! I started seeing results pretty quickly and if I could just get my eating under control, I know I will definitely lose more fat.

I love what you said about having routines, Doe! It makes so much sense! I guess that since I have become a stay at home mom, I have figured that I don't need a routine because I have lots of time on my hands. However, the opposite has proven to be true for me. I always have to do lists that need to be done and I feel like a failure when I don't get them done. If I can get back into a routine, then maybe I will have more free time on my hands and won't feel overwhelmed by all that needs to be done. This will be especially helpful for me when I start homeschooling Emily full time next year and Caley part time. Routines were such a part of my life when I taught 5th grade and I accomplished a great deal. Now, if I can translate that to my homemaking and homeschooling, then maybe I won't feel as stressed and overwhelmed!!! :Pinkbounc Thank you so much Doe for sharing that idea and your thoughts on it with us!!!!

Sorry about taking over your journal, Doe.

I earned 2.5 smilies yesterday, for devotions, water and taking my meds (but not my vitamin - hence HALF a smilie). In spite of all that, the scale says I'm down another pound this morning.

DS had a great time last night, going to the movies with 3 friends (who are all female) and then bringing them all home for pizza and games. They had a blast playing Dance Dance Revolution! There was too much junk food around and I had a bit of a binge but today I'm back on track.

Half pictures are up!! Here's the link:
http://www.asiorders.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=4354
Put in bib number 20082 and you can see me crossing the finish line. I KNEW the American Sign Language alphabet would come in handy some day. My right hand is signing E for Erin and my left hand is signing B for Beth. I told you both you'd be with me and there's the proof! I'm proudly wearing my princess: hat and my WISH scarf (from the Trails' End meet on Saturday evening). What a moment! I'll definitely be buying that pic, as well as one of the start pics - people as far as the eye can see! :earseek:

This may be TMI but I wanted to note it here so I don't forget it. I feel "full". I'm not constipated but I just feel heavy, if that makes sense. I'm going to eat fruit until noon to try to cleanse out my system (another wacky Doe experiment :teeth: ) and get rid of that heavy feeling. After the fruit is gone (a banana, a clementine, an apple and some grapes) I'll be back to low carb for the rest of the day. I will try to eat the fruit slowly so my blood sugar doesn't spike.

Today is the first day I woke up without sore muscles! I'm getting anxious to try the FIRM tapes. I'll start out with no weights and no step - just going through the motions to get the moves down without working too hard.

I've come to a conclusion. When the space around me is cluttered, it's hard for me to focus. I spent some time yesterday cleaning off my desk at work. When I came in this morning, I felt so much better and ready to start working. I also feel the same way at home. When I use those first 15-20 minutes when I get home in the evening to put things right, I feel so much calmer and more focused the rest of the evening. It really is worth the effort! I'm making an effort to keep my areas at work and home less cluttered so my mind is less cluttered.

Today: (edit Fri. AM)
1. Devotions - Those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:31 (NRSV) This really reminded me of an experience during the half. When I was flagging, around mile 12, there was a man with Phillipians 4:13 on the back of his shirt. It inspired me and my walking felt easier. There is rejuvenating power in scripture! I need to read it daily - it truly does lift me up. :p
2. Pills - Meds taken but vitamins still at home in my suitcase. I have to move them back into my tote bag so they're with me at work. Forgot them when I got home. Half a smilie again.
3. Water - 16 oz down and headed to the cooler for a refill. Only 48 oz for the day - not enough.
4. Healthy eating - Fruit until noon, and then low-carb for the rest of the day. Did great with a low carb lunch but didn't have anything low-carb at home for dinner.
5. Exercise - Need to do something, but didn't.

I'm hoping to start getting around to everyone's journals soon. Things are finally calming down at home so I should have some time to devote to catching up with all my journal buddies. I miss you all! :grouphug:

I'm feeling good! :sunny:

 Doe,

I will be the first to admit that I have tears in my eyes. Between you, Amanda, and Terry, I definately feel that I was at the half, at least in spirit. Thank you so much. I also love the look of accomplishment on your face. You need to put a copy in your office to remind yourself that you can accomplish ANYTHING you put your mind to, especially for the hard days. I am so proud of you, Doe.

Doreen, you are definately right about the routine thing. Think of how many of us are totally OP all week, only to fall off the wagon on the weekend. All because the routine is switched up. I am guilty of the same thing, and really need to work on this. Thanks for the reminder.

I know exactly what you mean about feeling heavy. The fruit is a good idea. I might skip the banana though. Bananas can be constipating. I am not sure it would help with a cleanse.

Have a great day princess: Doe,

Doe that picture of you is AWESOME! I wish they would have snapped a pic of Brian and I as we crossed the finish line. Did you see the one of me and Mary Ellen in front of the castle?

I agree with you about the clutter. I have made it a habit to clean off my desk at the end of the day. The last 30 minutes is for filing, making stacks of paper, and putting this in their place. I don't know how people can function when thay have paper all over their desk. It would drive me crazy!

Menu looks good today and your fruit sounds yummy. Glad to see the scale is moving in the right direction. I'm going to Curves tonight so we will see how mine is doing. Blah!

I earned a whopping smilie & a half yesterday! :p I hope to do much better today! ::yes:: I had forgotten about an appointment that DS had so my plans for the evening were totally blown as we shifted to Plan B!

The fruit is helping me feel lighter but I'm going to eat some more today.

:rockband: Time for the Friday party!! :rockband: I'm looking forward to some extra sleep this weekend - I'm feeling really tired and worn down.

Today: (edit Sat. AM)
1. Devotions - "I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." Phillippians 4:11 This is a tough one for me. I need to remember that God has put me right where He wants me.
2. Pills - took my meds, left the vitamins at home again. Half a smilie.
3. Water - 64 oz I hope. Only 16 oz down - working on a second mug. Didn't get it all down - only 32 oz!
4. Healthy eating - I brought some more fruit but will alternate it with whole grains and lower carb foods. I have soup for lunch. I just don't feel like eating anything heavy. B was an apple & some walnuts. L was a can of soup. PM snack was 2 Clementines and yogurt w/ walnuts. Fell apart when I got home though.
5. Exercise - I keep listing this as a goal for the day and one of these days I'm actually going to follow through and DO it.

I'm really starting to FEEL thinner, lighter.... a good feeling that I've missed!

   to you, my dear Doreen. When I saw the picture of you in the race. . . . . .well, you know I had to cry a little about that, don't you?
My heart was warmed through and through.

It's a new (albeit rainy and gloomy) day. We're going to make our own :sunny: though, aren't we? We're going to realize that we're to bloom where we are planted :flower: and see the blessings all around. :Pinkbounc
Yep, we'll be content in all things. Easier said than done, but today we're gonna go for it!

I think that means that we need to be content--not only with our surroundings, but with our bodies, too. Yours (and Amanda's) has just come through an amazing journey and has rewarded you well. You're nurturing it with fruits and lighter foods and will get back to exercise when you feel it's time. You're doing good things! As far as our weights. . .well, let's be content in knowing that it's something that we're aware of and will work on. You've already seen the scale move in the right direction! Let's have faith in ourselves that we'll choose a way of eating that honors our bodies and that God will give us the desire to choose that road (like Beth did with those fancy cookies!).

I hope that your day is blessed with peace, Doreen. Have a cup of decaf mandarin orange tea this afternoon if you can. I'll be thinking of you as I raise a cup of my own.

With love,

Give yourself some nap time this weekend and know you are feeling just as you should.

Good morning, girlfriend. Just wanted to send you a  and some :goodvibes and a big, bright :sunny: for your day today. I sure hope we're going to see some sun. . .doesn't this seem like the grayest winter on record for PA?

We'll just have to make our own positive energy through the day! :flower:
Promise me you'll do what you can to eat right and to treat yourself like you know you should. It's really your gift to YOU.

Amanda mentioned bathing suits, didn't she? Do you remember last year's tankini talks? Let's all make a deal to reward ourselves with brand new bathing suits when (not if, but WHEN) we reach our goal weights. Then we can post pictures of ourselves wearing them! :rotfl: Yeah, right! Like I'd ever do that in a MILLION YEARS!!!! OK, well, enough comedy. I have to get to work. Have a good day, Doreen.

Thank you all for visiting!! :grouphug: One of my many goals for this weekend is to get around to all the journals! I've missed visiting all my WISH journal buddies! ::yes::

The Great Tankini Challenge of 2005??? :earseek: Well, my bathing suit HAS seen better days and it sure would be nice to drop some weight and buy a new one....OK count me in!! :cool1: Now, about posting those pics....hmmmm.....we'll see! :teeth:

For anyone interested in the Philadelphia half marathon in September, the website is www.philadistancerun.org. I'm seriously considering this. The time limit is 3.5 hours, just like the Disney half. I'll aim for a better time than 3:24 and a better chip time than 3:14. Could I be starting a habit?? I think I'll post a thread on the main WISH board and see if there's anyone else who's interested.

Today: (edit 4 PM)
1. Devotions - not yet.
2. Pills - meds AND vitamins taken :p
3. Water - 16 oz down
4. Healthy eating - B was a small bowl of Cheerios, L was an Atkins bar
5. Exercise - FIRM BSS2 Max Cardio Sculpt w/ Abs w/ Allie - my first FIRM tape! No fanny lifter, no sculpting stick, but I still managed to work up a sweat! :earseek: :p

Gee, I see a pattern here. :teeth: Time to get moving! :sunny: I've got laundry and housework to do, and a mall trip with DD (she needs jeans).

1. Devotions - We do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. -2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV) This hits home when I'm contemplating being 40 and growing older, with all the aches and pains that go along with that. I know some older people (in their 70s & 80s) from church who have such a young spirit - never hear them complain about their health.
2. Pills - meds & vitamins taken. :p
3. Water - on my second 12 oz mug.
4. Healthy eating - a major trip to the store is on tap! I've got the list made and will use it as a master list for the future too! I'm going to enter it on the computer so I can just print it off, keep it on the fridge, and check off anything that's running low. Not sure what my meals will be yet - haven't done a specific menu plan for the week. B = apple w/ PB

Gotta run, but I'll be back later!

This is a good Monday - no work!! :p The kids have a vacation day from school. DH has decided that he's staying home too! DD & I postponed our mall trip til today, but since we have snow on the ground and it's icy out, I'm not sure we're going anywhere.

I got up at 5 and did the FIRM Total Sculpt + Abs with Jen. This one focused on weight training with some aerobics thrown in. So far I'm enjoying the FIRM. The moves are sometimes complicated but that means I'm paying such close attention that I'm not watching the clock. The time really flies by and I can tell it's quite a workout! Shouldn't take long to see results with this series!

Yesterday was my first 5 smilie day in a very long time!! WOO HOO!! DS, DD & I survived our mall trip and I refused to buy any food or drinks while there, knowing I'd be too tempted to go off plan. We waited until we got home and ate, so I stayed on plan AND saved some $$. :p

Today it's back to work and the comfort of my routine. I'm feeling mostly good but a little stressed and anxious. I'm going to take baby steps at work and do what I can. It was nice to come into work to my CLEAN desk, instead of the usual clutter. :p

Today: (edit: 3:30 PM)
1. Devotions - If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! -Matthew 7:11 (NIV)
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - 4 mugs down and halfway through the last one.
4. Healthy eating - B was an apple w/ PB, L was pineapple yogurt w/ walnuts. Snack was a Clementine and 2 string cheese. D will be chicken baked in cream of chicken soup and some kind of veggie. While this isn't strictly low carb, it feels right to me. I'm right on track so far!
5. Exercise - this is the one I'm not sure about. I've started using the FIRM tapes but I don't want to do them every day. I'm aiming for every other day in the beginning so I don't overdo it. Today is an off day, but I should do something. I'll think about this. I'd certainly like another 5 smilie day.

Hey girlie! Good job on the 5 :) - you are doing awesome. In regards to your dinner tonight really the cream of chicken soup does not add to many carbs so don't sweat the small stuff okay!

I agree with doing the firm every other day. Those tapes are tough and you really do want to give your body some recovery time. I suggest maybe doing some stretching tonight. Per Curves 15% of our weight loss comes from stretching the muscles. So take 20 minutes and really stretch that body out doing arms, legs, back, and abs. You will feel energized afterwards - remember to breathe deeply!

Yesterday I earned 4 out of 5 smilies - didn't do any exercise, not even stretching. However I'm patting myself on the back because 4 of 5 smilies is an improvement for me! :Pinkbounc

I am giving myself a smilie for healthy eating even though I had a few potato chips before dinner and 3 bites of a carby dessert afterward. I didn't binge and stuck with really small portions of these 2 things. Also, I actually ate broccoli in cheese sauce with my dinner. I do not like veggies so this was a major deal for me. I figure the few bites of carbs were balanced out by that healthy broccoli. :p

I've been really tired lately and I think it's because I haven't been faithfully going to bed at a decent hour. I NEED my sleep. Last night I was in bed just after 9 and read for 15-20 minutes before turning out the light and falling asleep. I still feel tired this morning but I'm sure it will take me a few days of good sleep to catch up. If getting to bed late starts to become a habit, I may have to add an early bedtime to my daily goals.

Today: (edit 8 PM)

4. Healthy eating - Work food = apple w/ PB, yogurt w/ walnuts, LC soft tacos. Dinner will be a roast or leftovers - it's looking more & more like leftovers. :teeth: They will, of course, be low carb leftovers! :p
5. Exercise - I need to do the FIRM when I get home, first thing, or it won't get done. ::yes:: I DID IT!! YAHOO!

Hi Firmie Doe,

Great job yesterday, especially with the broccoli. BTW, broccoli is Katie's favorite veggie, plain no margarine.

When I read the SB book, the author suggested that if you HAVE TO HAVE something off program, like your dessert, take 3 bites. He said that you would probably be satisfied. You did just that. Congrats on the self control.

I hope you have a good day, and get plenty of rest tonight.

I did so well yesterday until right before bedtime. I had more than 3 bites of the dessert that DS made, so no healthy eating smilie. The rest of the day was really good food-wise and I earned the other 4 smilies (including that pesky exercise one!). My veggie for the day was salsa with my LC tortillas, taco meat and cheese. It was a good day!

I'm starting to feel thinner. I'm in a pair of jeans that were tight a couple weeks ago. I realized too late that I should have worn a belt with them today because they're loose! :teeth:

Now that I've committed to doing the Ocean City MD half marathon on April 16, I must plot out my training plan for the next 12 weeks. Fortunately the weather should be getting better for my longer distances toward the end. Then I'll have to figure out how the FIRM workouts will fit in with my walking. Those FIRM workouts are tough but I can really feel my muscles working and tightening up - a great feeling!

Today: (edit 11:30 AM)
1. Devotions - Each of us has a place in God's plan and we've been given gifts to glorify God and to serve our fellow man. We may not see how our small efforts fit into the larger whole, but God does.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - on my third mug.
4. Healthy eating - B was blueberry yogurt w/ walnuts. AM snack was a string cheese & a clementine. I have an apple w/PB, another clementine and a string cheese for the rest of the work day. If I'm hungry at lunch, I'll buy a burger (no bun). Dinner will be a roast that I managed to put in the Crock-pot this morning and a veggie of some kind.
5. Exercise - this is an off day for the FIRM (did Complete Aerobics & Weight Training w/ Emily last evening). Beth reminded me how much I enjoyed my Pilates workout so I may try to fit that in tonight.

Tonight I take DS for a contact lens check, which will cut into my exercise time. Doing my workout the moment I got in the door last night worked out well. I think I'll do the same thing tonight! ::yes::

Hi Doreen,

I think your catching the FIRM Feaver. It's so much fun once you catch it. I remember last year when that is all I was doing my muscles were getting so nice and big. I loved how my arm muscles felt after a workout.

If you want I can also copy the marathon for mortals training schedule and give you. There is one for walking and one for run/walking a half. It's a 14 week schedule. There are two crosstraining days that I am using to get my firm in. I FIRMly believe you need to crosstrain your muscles because they work in conjunction with running to help you.

I managed to undo my healthy eating last night. I could make lots of excuses but I think the root cause was a case of the Blue Meanies that Erin has talked about. I was tired and cranky and didn't care. The scale this morning has shown me the error of my ways in the form of 3 pounds of water weight. Back to the straight and narrow today, in spite of the Blue Meanies hanging around. :p I hope this isn't the beginning of a long and nasty DZone.

I earned 3 of 5 smilies yesterday - didn't earn healthy eating or exercise. DH & I are seriously discussing a treadmill purchase to make my training easier. I still have to work out the budget numbers though, so I'm sure we won't do anything about it for a few weeks.

Today is a new day and I'm back to working toward 5 smilies! :) :flower1:

2. Pills - oops, gotta take these NOW - almost forgot! OK, taken! :p
3. Water - only on my second mug - really behind on water today.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt & walnuts, AM snack = string cheese & clementine, L = apple w/PB. PM snack will be string cheese & clementine. Dinner - hmmmm, I think I have some chicken breasts in the fridge, how 'bout some Chicken a la Amanda! YUMMY!

Those Blue Meanies are not fun! I'm sure it's because we were basking in 86degree weather a few weeks ago and have seen nothing but ugly FRIGID weather here! Maybe a few days in fluffy white snow will do us all good. At least if it's going to be so cold it can at least be pretty!!

I hope you get your treadmill. It really makes training easier.

Sorry to hear about the blues - this weather sure does make it tough. But as Amanda stated back to basics, how much water? do you have a bottle with you now? exercise, well no tm so did you hit the gym? maybe a dvd today? I'm heading out to buy a new one, I'll let you know. LC today, be sure to plan for dinner, what did you say was for dinner? what time? I'll be there :flower1: I'm doing chicken in the crockpot, need to go find a recipe.

I officially took yesterday off! :p I did as little as possible - played a lot of Pogo games online and gave my mind and body a rest. We got about 6-8 inches of snow but it's fluffy & fine - not good for snowmen. Today and tomorrow will be windy so we get to watch all that snow blow around. :p

I need to help out at Sunday School this morning and I may stay for church. Then I'll be working on the checkbook and budget and doing some light cleaning.

Today I'm back in the game. ::yes::
1. Devotions - God said to Moses, "Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." -Exodus 3:5 (NRSV) I'm reminded of a song our choir sings. It tells me that everywhere I am is holy ground because God is with me - certainly church, but also home, the office, the store, in traffic, everywhere.
2. Pills - not yet.
3. Water - not yet.
4. Healthy eating -
5. Exercise -

Good morning, Doreen. I hope the sun is shining there like it is here--it's beautiful with all the snow.

So yesterday was your day off? Well, I think today will be my day off! We've been doing church stuff all morning, so now I think I have to put on my pjs, hunker down and watch the Eagles. Will you watch any of the games today? Our family's hope is that it will be an all PA Super Bowl. Wouldn't that be cool?

What did you do about your treadie? We got mine from Sears a few years ago and it's been working great since we got it. It has a nice cup holder, the track w/the light that goes around, tells miles, time, calories burned, fat calories burned, etc. but that's it. Not many bells and whistles.

OK, I'm off to read your post in my journal and then I'm going to take the day off from the DIS. I'm going to do some dangerous baking with DD instead!

:sunny: I'm thankful for Monday mornings and fresh starts! :p :sunny:

I started yesterday with good intentions but the truth is that the only smilies I earned were for devotions and pills. Of course, 2 smilies are better than none. :p :p

Today I'm back at work and am grateful for my workday routine that helps me achieve those smilies more easily.
1. Devotions - We spend some of our time seeking God, but God spends ALL His time seeking us. Very profound.
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - 1 mug down and actively working on mug #2.
4. Healthy eating - B was an apple w/ PB, L will be a salad w/ a chicken breast cut up & mixed in, PM snack will be 2 string cheese. There isn't much of anything low-carb left in the house, except possibly a pack of hot dogs :p so I'll need to head to the store.
5. Exercise - hmm.

We still haven't decided about the treadmill. Money is tight at the moment (blame it on my new car ) so I don't think we'll be buying one for the next few weeks. I need to get moving and start training for the OC half but I'm struggling with motivation. Would anyone like to come give me a swift kick to get me moving?? :teeth: I promise I will walk outside the first time the wind chill is in the 30s. Anything below that and I just can't make myself do it. Maybe I should start using that fitness center membership that I'm paying for. ::yes::

Time to stop DISing and do some real work. I'll be back later!

Gentle Mommy Voice: Doe - if you have a fitness membership and they have tread mills why are you not using them? At least one day a week you could go and walk 4 miles at the gym. Right? Make the commitment to get there one day this week and do some training. The rest of the week you can stick to the Fimr - but if you are paying for a gym - then use it! I'm sending you a quick kick in the rear and some :sunny: to warm up outside. End of Gentle Mommy Voice

I too got a little sloppy over the weekend with my eating - but today is a new day and a new week and I know you are I will be earning a new clippie at the end of the month! We just need to keep plugging away and sticking to the basics. Water, Food, Exercise! Water, Food, Exercise! I'm going to be going to Curves tonight - will you be doing the Firm? :cheer2:

Make sure to get to the grocery store and get some healthy low carb foods in the house! Do you need help menu planning? ;)

I don't mind going to the fitness club. It's just a matter of transportation. It isn't really close enough to walk. I have a daylight only drivers' license and the sun just isn't up long enough in the evenings. I'd have to ask my husband and/or son to take me there and then pick me up. It wouldn't be too bad if I could count on them to be on time. :p

In another month I should be able to squeeze a workout in right after work and make it home before sunset. My favorite day of the year is the start of Daylight Savings Time in the spring! :teeth:

So how did you only end up with 6-10 inches of snow. We got 12-16 inches. I haven't heard the official number yet here in my town but I have a feeling it's on the upper end of that number. DH stayed home today because he is so sore from shoveling snow.

My little ramapo rhodie is confused and trying to bloom too! DH pulled the palms out of the garage to bask in the warmth...It's really all too much! (While I know I should not be complaining, I know no snow means water restrictions this summer...yes, water restrictions in "rainy" western Washington.)

I hope that you can find a way to train with the inclement weather. Is there a place you can get some walking in inside at work on a lunch hour?

Yesterday, I earned :) for devotions, pills and water. Healthy eating was mainly on track with just a small indiscretion for dessert last evening. I'm pretty pleased about that, since my body was screaming for large amounts of chocolate all day. ::yes::

The DZone is here with a vengeance. I'm tired and cranky but there's still a place inside me where the :sunny: is brightly shining. It's a bit tougher to get to, but it's still there. I'm reminded of Erin saying she sometimes feels like a dishrag. That's a great way to describe it. However, I'm going to ride the wave and do all I can to meet my 5 goals today.

Today: (edit 2:30 PM)
1. Devotions - God is ready to help even before we ask. I'll be asking a lot today. :p
2. Pills - Taken :p
3. Water - Working on the 5th mug.
4. Healthy eating - didn't bring any food to work, the cupboards are bare at home. B was blueberry yogurt w/ walnuts. L was a burger (no bun) w/ mayo.
5. Exercise - still thinking and not doing anything about it. I'm just feeling so tired. I will do some research on the net regarding treadmills.

:sunny: and :goodvibes for your visit to the DZone, dear Doreen. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and do the best you can do. It's darn unpleasant, but you know that you'll make it to the other side eventually.
Hold on.

Just a thought. . .you say you're body's screaming for huge amounts of chocolate. What would happen if you gave in to what your body was asking for? This is not to suggest you go have a chocolate fest, but I'm just wondering. . .you know that there are lots of good things in chocolate. . .maybe you need to get yourself some of those Dove dark chocolates and have a few. Just to feed your body whatever chocolate gives it. Like I said, it's just a thought.

I'm thinking of you today, WISH-sis. Just :moped: motor on cruise control.

Morning Doe! Oh I was in the same place last week. Is there anyway you can get to the store tonight with Todd? Because ya know - it is during the D-zone when we are at our weakest and cannot turn down pizza :p .

For your chocolate cravings - even if you can't get to the store for full on shopping see if Todd can stop and get you some Sugar Free Chocolate pudding and some milk. I used this during my D-zone last week and was able to enjoy chocolate and Whip Cream without any guilt at all. It was great, kept my focused, and I lost 2.5 lbs! I must always have this in my cupboard. Add it to your grocery list every week - you will not be sorry!

Also - exercise! I know it stinks but exercising will help you with those food cravings. Plus it gives you a solid hour of distraction from them. AND you might even feel a bit energized afterwards.

Do something for yourself - even if it is small. Taking a minute to sing along with a song on the car radio or sitting at your desk in quite prayer - but make yourself a priority today. You are worth it! I was reading an article in Oprah's magazine last night and it made me think of you and me. It basically said the reason we are overweight is because we don't think ourselves are worth being a priority. We put everyone else before us. We have to change this thinking and learn to make ourselves a priority.

You are going to be in my thoughts all day Wish-sis and I'm sending you lots of  and :wizard: .

I earned 3 smilies yesterday - devotions, pills & water. I'll definitely earn those same 3 smilies today. However, I'm going to do my best to earn the food & exercise smilies too.

The DZone is upon me and my eating last night reflected it. I was tired and caved in to the pizza my family wanted.

I did get to bed at 9 PM and had a good night's sleep so I'm not feeling quite as tired this morning. The "girls" are so swollen that they hurt with every step I take - anyone got any ideas for a natural diuretic? I'll be trying to drink extra water today but I'm open to any other ideas.

Tonight we go for haircuts and I'll get my hair highlighted. It's extra money but the uplifting feeling it gives me is worth the $.

DH and I were again discussing the treadmill. We don't have the cash and we don't want to take on any more debt. I told him that my true need is to walk/run several times a week to train for the half and I already have the fitness center - I just need transportation. The solution? He's going to join the fitness center too and we'll go together in the evenings, at least until the sun stays up long enough for me to go on my own. Maybe we can eventually motivate the kids to join too and go as a family. They could certainly use the exercise.

Today: (edit 3:30 PM)
1. Devotions - done.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - 2 mugs (24 oz) + I'm finishing a 16 oz bottle so 40 oz so far. I'll need to get 2 more mugs in tonight.
4. Healthy eating - B was yogurt w/ walnuts. L was a Subway lc wrap. D??? Go to the grocery store tonight. Since I'm in the DZone and craving chocolate, I picked up 1 Russell Stover LC chocolate mousse heart (less than 1 carb). I've stored it in my desk for when I'm desperate but I'm going to try to not use it. It's 3:30 PM and I haven't eaten it yet. :p
5. Exercise - call the health club and add DH to my membership. I called to the price to add DH - no problem! Find time to walk a bit, even if it's only 5 minutes. I walked 15 minutes over lunch hour to get my Subway LC wrap. :p

I'm feeling mentally sunnier despite the bloat fairy. :sunny:

I've spent lots of time on journals today. I really want to get caught up with everyone and pop into the journals of those who are new around here. This just takes a ton of time but everyones' stories, struggles and successes so inspire me. If I haven't gotten to you yet, I'll be there. I'm basically caught up with every journal with 200 or more posts. I'll do all those in the 100s next, etc.

I need to drink 2 more mugs of water and eat LC tonight for 5 smilies - I'm going to do it!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hi Doreen,

Don't worry about that pizza. I am the same way during that time and crave salt and sugar. Not a pretty picture when that happens but we all slip every once in awhile. Today is another day though so move on. :cool1: I'm glad you and your husband are both going to join. I find it so much easier to stay OP when my husband is also living that way. We try to go to the gym at least once a week and we both like it when we do. Kind of a bonding time :love2: even though we use different machines at different times. Another thought for you if you want a walking track is your local high school. I know around here you can show your driver's license and walk the high school indoor (winter) or outdoor track. I earned all 5 smilies yesterday!! WOO HOO!! :Pinkbounc I'll be trying to build on that success and earn all 5 today too, in spite of the DZone! ::yes::

For those who are not familiar with the DZone, it is short for Danger Zone. It's different for each of us and sometimes different for each month. It usually hits me a week to 10 days before my TOM and doesn't leave until 2-3 days after TOM's arrival. It is the time when I'm extra tired and most vulnerable to eating the wrong foods and skipping exercise.

Our furnace has been giving us a bit of trouble lately. The service guy came yesterday to fix it. I guess he really did "fix" it because it shut off last evening and wouldn't restart. We waited for another tech to fix it again. We finally had heat and hot water around 12:15 last night. Never a dull moment. I was so tired that I went to bed around 10:30 and let DH deal with it.

Today I'm still in the throes of the DZone. I'm scheduled to give blood over lunch hour - my swollen body won't miss a pint, that's for sure! :teeth: If i need chocolate, I still have my Russell Stovers LC in my desk drawer, so I can have chocolate and still stay on plan.

Today: (edit 1 PM)
1. Devotions - Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up. -Proverbs 12:25 (NRSV) I'm thankful for my WISH friends, who share so many good words and so very often lift my spirits. :grouphug:
2. Pills - just took them. :p

Doe:

I sure like your rating for making your daily goals - even one smile is an accomplishment some days for me.

I'm also glad to hear that your DH is going with you to the gym...he'll be healthier for it too! Treadmills are pricey! I've priced them out as well and almost bought one used at a neighbor's garage sale last fall but then I got on it and it had a "hesitation"...DH said it wasn't a very quality unit and he didn't think he could fix the "hesitation". What is frustrating is that my FIL has a really nice unit collecting dust downstairs and he won't give it up even though neither he or his GF uses it! Well its the same for the sewing maching and surger upstairs too! When will folks learn that its not about the amount of stuff you collect in your lifetime - but what you do with your time that counts!

Have a really terrific day - D-Zone be gone!

Hey Doe! Way to go on the 5 :) day! Woo Hoo!

Too cool that DH is gonna go to the gym with you! You two can run on your treadmills together. <a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSxdm31547US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_5_120.gif' alt='Treadmill' border=0></a> <a href='*******************************************ZSzeb008_ZSxdm31547US' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_5_120.gif' alt='Treadmill' border=0></a>

Hey Doe,

I havta tell ya, when I see you've taken the time to post on my board, it really lifts my spirits! :sunny:

Well as I talked about last year, I have a hard time connecting with you guys on the TOM topic.....you know, being as I am the only guy on here...(I know there is one or two others, but I feel special thinking I am it!)

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I ended up with 4 of 5 smilies yesterday. My food was good until last evening. I didn't binge or overindulge though, I just chose to eat a dinner that wasn't low in carbs, and for DZone it is OK. I can make those choices but I need to limit myself to once a week.

I took the day off from work. There are lots of things at home that need catching up and with the DZone blahs and temps in the single digits, well it seemed like a good day. :p I've already started the laundry.

Even though I'm at home, I'm going to stay focused on a 5 smilie day! :cloud9:

Today: (edit 12:45 PM)
1. Devotions - Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
-Hebrews 10:24-25 (NRSV) I am reminded of how lonely I felt before starting to journal every day. This daily connection with other WISHers who "provoke me to love and good deeds" has meant the world to me. :grouphug:
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - on my fourth mug.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ almonds
5. Exercise - soon! At least I finally put my exercise clothes on! :p

What exercise will you be doing? The firm? :)
I wanted to take today off so badly - but end of the month is never a good time to take off when you are in sales, especially when your numbers are low. So think of me while you are recharging your batteries at home.

Have a good day!

:sunny: Good morning! :sunny:

I earned 4 of 5 smilies yesterday! I made tuna salad for dinner and it had my daily dose of fresh chopped up veggies - celery, red pepper and red onion. Then I finished the day with sf chocolate pudding & whipped cream. The smilie I didn't earn was exercise. I had all day to do it and just didn't. Today I'll change that! ::yes::

I've been feeling anxious lately about everything that has to get done. I'm talking about all the stuff we have to do on a daily or weekly basis, like cleaning, balancing the checkbook, training the dog, de-cluttering drawers & closets, laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, etc... Each thing isn't difficult but I feel like I want a master list or master routine so that I know I will get around to each one on a regular basis. Does anyone else feel like this or have any suggestions for a system to keep it all straight?

I'm feeling energized after my day off yesterday. However I admit that I spent way too much time yesterday playing games on the computer. At this point it is becoming an unhealthy addiction / distraction. So today will be Pogo-free (Pogo is the game site I've been spending too much time on).

It will be a busy day filled with DS' visit to the eye doctor, DD's trip to the mall, exercise, cooking, etc. etc. I'll try to visit other journals throughout the day but won't have too much time. I've done all journals with more than 90 entries (as of Thursday) so I'm slowly working my way through everyone. :p

Today:
1. Devotions - Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." -John 10:10 (NRSV) Life in itself is a wonderful gift, but ABUNDANT life! This doesn't mean material abundance!
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - all 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B = apple w/ PB, AM snack = string cheese, L = tuna salad on lc wrap, D = Outback cheeseburger, 1/2 baked sweet potato, 1/2 salad
5. Exercise - missed this one again.

It was a good day! I've re-read one of my favorite books - Sidetracked Home Executives - and am setting up a system to organize the house cleaning. I spent a good part of the day on this but it will pay big dividends in the future! ::yes::

 to you this Saturday morning, princess: Doreen! I just wanted to stop by and say hello before you got into your busy day. It sounds like you have a lot on your mind. . .a plan, I think, will help your anxiety. I know that it always helps me to sit down with my jumbo appointment book and to plot out when I want to do things. I was thinking this morning that I need to have one day a week where I do a special de-clutter project: clean out the top drawers of my dresser, organize the spice cabinet. The truth is that I want someone to wave a magic wand :wizard: and get it all done NOW. The reality of life says otherwise.

I hope you have a good Saturday. Enjoy the busyness. I'll be in touch about next weekend. Off to work. . .

Love,
Erin

Hi Doe -

Hope you enjoyed the day off - I too was debating on taking the day off but things have been a little bit busier at work and the end of the month isn't a good time at all to take off from work.

Just wanted to stop by and wish you a great weekend - keep up the great work! ;)

Hi Doreen

I hope you are having a great weekend!

I took my journal offline. I'm going to start a new one once my google fiasco has died down. In the meantime, I'll stop by often!!!

Doe,

I think it is great how you are including us in on your devotionals. My goal is to read the Bible this year. So far I am right on target. Gonna be though with my accounting class just started!
