I thought that I should start an "official" thread for the September 20th gathering of DISfolk at the Yankee Peddler Festival in Canal Fulton, Ohio. If you are planning to attend on September 20th and have not already PMed me, please do so.

Attendees:
figmentvi (Linda) and DD sydally9367 (Holly)
NancyIL (Nancy)
lisajl (Lisa) & DH

Maybe attending:
fire14 (Juli) and DH Danny
helenabear (Elaine)
bobcat (Lisa) and kids
Tuffcookie

Of course my family will be there working at the festival. But we'll have time to play too. :teeth:

Fire14, EpcotKilterFan, and Tiger Lily 03 are looking into coming on September 6th. The festival runs for the three weekends after Labor Day weekend (Sept 6,7,13,14,20,21) so I hope to see some of you at the festival. I'll have to see if I can work a lime green ribbon into my costume.

***** IMPORTANT *****
The Yankee Peddler Festival grounds cover a lot of acres. And there are three entrance gates. You do not get to choose your gate, so it is a bad idea to meet at "the main gate". I suggest that we plan to meet at flag pole in Muskrat Cove for the flag raising ceremony at noon and then eat lunch. Since the festival opens at 10AM, this gives everyone a chance to get settled and to find their way around. If you want to find me before noon, I will probably be at the Main Inquiries booth (also in Muskrat Cove). If I'm not there, DW Sue will be there for sure. And I'm not the only town crier at the festival, so don't assume that all the ding-a-lings are me. :teeth:

***** UPDATE *****
We just got our "buttons" for the festival (which are how the crafters and entertainers can enter and leave the grounds at will) and it turns out that they are LIME GREEN!!!

I'm a CON, I'm a CON....:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Wait a minute....that didn't sound right

Well this certainly is a wonderful turn of events. I hope we get to see more DIS'ers at the festival. How fun is this gonna be ?????

Hmmmmm...I wonder if Akron has anything similar to Jellyrolls for Linda and Holly? ;)

Hey John,
My DH will be there, too!

Does anyone know about that Canal House Bed and Breakfast place?
I just made reservations there, and was wondering if any of you knew what it was like.

I thought this would be a great weekend for just me and DH to get away.

Thanks..
See you then...

:( Oh mannnn! I wish I knew just that little bit earlier. I/we just made plans last week for both weekends 6th and 20th.
We usually always do Yankee Peddler. Still plan to just not those 2 dates. Oh well, next one maybe. I hope everyone enjoys!

Holy smokes.....we better hope not. I'm visiting my In-Laws and they think I'm a saint. I certainly wouldn't want to disappoint them. :smooth:

I will have to see if I have anything planned for the 20th. I just read something in the paper about the Yankee Peddler Festival and asked the kids if they would like to go. Might have to think about making a weekend of it. I'll need another vaction by then. ;)

For sure we will be going to the event. Right now it looks like we may actually make it on the 6th, just not noon.

At any rate, John, we will be certain to "DISmeet" you and your DW Sue whenever it is that we make it to the Yankee Peddler.

Shep it would be wonderful if you guys could make it. I would so love to meet you, your wife and those two adorable little girls. Holly will be bringing her little girls as well. Sydney is 6 and Allison is 2.

One day down, five more to go. We had some excitement the first day of the festival. One of the food booths caught on fire. And it was a BIG grease fire. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. We managed to contain the fire until the fire department arrived. They put it out in about 2 seconds. Just goes to show you how having the right equipment makes all the difference.

Day 1 of Yankee Peddler and I got to see Tiger Lily 03 and her DH Ted. It was great seeing them again.

I've got to go get ready for Day 2 now. I'll report back on any DISers that I run into today.

Day 2 - Saw EpcotKilterFan and her mom today. They had to track me down as I was busy taking digital pictures of all 300 craft booths. No fires today. :)

John, just got something in the mail from you Thursday (busy around the house and so forgot to post and say thank you!!!!)

Question though, for those going on the 20th, is there anywhere we can meet up so I don't miss you all??

John,
A Thank you from me, too!

Elaine,
I thought John had posted something about meeting then going to lunch. Sorry, I could not find it.
It would be a good idea to get all of this figured out...I am not good at these things and don't want to miss anyone!

The original plan was to meet at the flag raising ceremony at noon. That gives everyone a chance to get to the festival, get parked, and do a little looking around before gathering. After the flag raising ceremony, I thought that we could all go eat lunch.

If you'd like to try to get together earlier, that's an option too. I would suggest a central meeting place as there are three gates and there's no saying which gate your car will be sent to. The show opens promptly at 10AM. If everyone wants to head straight to the flagpole at the opening, that's fine with me. I just hate to put pressure on everyone to get to the park right at opening time.

I still think that it's a good idea to plan to meet for the flag raising at noon.

BTW - DS James was picked to go up in the hot air balloon today. :)

Color me stupid for missing that one there, John ;) Sounds like a great plan! I like that idea so if we are running late Sat, we won't have to rush out of the house! So noon at the flag pole it is :)

And very cool about James!!! Was he able to take a camera or something with him there?

See you all at the Flag Raising Ceremony at noon on Sat.!!!!!

Try as I may, I could not convince James to take a camera with him. The last time that I was given the opportunity to ride in the hot air balloon, I took both a film camera and video camera. That's the difference between us, I guess. Sue took some photos of the balloon launch that I'll try to post once Yankee Peddler is over (along with photos of the DISmeet).

While it was not “Official DIS Meet Day,” DH and I were able to be at Yankee Peddler Festival on the 6th. John, Sue, and James looked “right smashing” in their costumes. We watched the baloon launch. James was not in this baloon; he and Dad were assisting.

The festival was quite enjoyable and we managed to come away with gifts for my mother that were going to be given at Christmas…we were both so excited about our treasures that we caved in an gave her the gifts already!

Have a great time and we look forward to seeing you at another meet.

I looked at the weather forecast for Saturday and from all appearances, we will have a nice day. By then, Isabel should be far enough to the northeast that it won't have any effect on the Yankee Peddler. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Prayers for those on the East Coast who will be effected by this storm. Stay safe everyone.

Well it looks like Ohio weather will be fine, but due to East Coast weather activities as of this afternoon, I am officially on call for work. We do a lot of behind the scenes stuff with other telecom companies and the last flood that did major damage (in Houston) we were working round the clock to help restore service. I may or may not show. If things are calm tomorrow I might risk the drive up, but I'd hate to make the 2 hour drive and then have to turn right back around to head into work.

We were talking about coquis at breakfast today. Chuck and Linda just visited Puerto Rico last week and are looking forward to talking to you on Saturday.

I know it stinks... we'll see how it all works out though. I would rather not work, but we'll see. And if I don't see you all on Saturday, remember there is always December :teeth: I'll have to tell Luis though that you were talking about his little frog friends though :p

Hi! We just got back from the festival. This is the first time we had been there. What a fun place, and it was my first big Dis meet.

Everyone was so nice! I did get some corn on the cob Linda a bit after lunch. It was soooo good!

The unfortuante thing is that I think our DD broke her foot.
She called us on the way out of the festival, crying.
So, Lee is on his way to the hospital with her.

Thanks for the tickets John, it was so nice to meet everyone.

Maybe one day we will get to meet up in Disneyworld!

Oh no Lisa, that's horrible   Prayers and Pixie Dust that your DD makes a very quick recovery.

It was so nice to meet you and your DH !!!! We had such a blast. I can't even begin to tell you how incredible that corn tasted to us :D :D :D

John.....what can I say. You are an unbelievable human being. To take the time that you did and be our "personal Yankee Peddler guide" was beyond being a good host. It was being a good friend. Major {{HUGS}} to you and Sue.

I got home this evening from a GREAT weekend in Ohio! I even enjoy driving through your state! :)

Thanks, John, for your hospitality to us out-of-towners! It was wonderful to see you again, as well as your dear wife, Sue and daughter, Sarah. As Linda said, it was great having our own celebrity towncrier to lead our little group!

It was great meeting Lisa and Lee, and TuffCookie! :) Lisa - I hope this will be the first of many more DIS meets for you!

The real reason I drove 7 hours each way was because figmentvi - aka Linda...and her lovely daughter Holly - were to be there. Linda, it was great to meet your other half...Chuck. :) And Holly - I've been hearing about your hubby and daughters for 2 years...so it's about time I finally met them!! :teeth: I'm glad your sister Andrea came, too...now I've met the whole family. :)

For any of you considering the Yankee Peddlar Festival for NEXT September - I highly recommend Akron/Fairlawn as THE place to stay! I got the Radisson there for $35 per night on Priceline, and it was very nice. :)

Thanks again, John and Sue, for hosting a really fun DIS meet!

The festival is over. It will take a couple of days for me to recover. I promise to post a photo as soon as my head stops spinning. It was a great peddler made even more special to me by visits from my DIS friends. I'm so glad that I could share Yankee Peddler with all of you who were able to attend. And to those of you who weren't able to make it, there's always 2004. :)

Sounds like you all had a great time!!! I sure wish I could have made it! I wasn't called in this weekend, but even worse is that I was sick this whole weekend (even missed work Friday) :( I would have much rather been up there having fun than being stuck in bed most of the day! Next year for sure!!!

I had the best time at the Peddler Festival, I seriously could've stayed there all day......and eaten alot more too :p

Nancy, You are the sweetest!!! As always it was great to see you and I am SO glad you finally got to meet Tim and the girls. Not long until we meet again ;)

John, I can't thank you enough for your hospitality!! My whole family had a great time, the girls are still talking about it
