Into my 3rd week now. Been exercising almost every day...swimming, biking, walking as much as my achey knees will allow. No further weight loss. It's really a slow process for me. I haven't cheated at all...no flour, no sugar, low carbs.
Every pound is a struggle. Very depressing!

Just got back from a bike ride with DH. Having some headaches and feeling tired. 17 days without cheating. I feel guilty if my broccoli crown is too big!

Hee hee, Nancyj--you made me chuckle with that one!:p
Seventeen days without cheating is a terrific accomplishment. I hope that 15 days from now I can say the same thing! You're my inspiration for today!
Let's hear it for Bucks County WISH women!

Well, another day with no weight loss. Maybe I should just stop weighing myself every day.
Ate the typical three meals and drank plenty of water.
My usual breakfast:
A few tablespoons of cottage cheese with a few blueberries. A large glass of water. Two cups of "light" coffee with half and half.
My usual lunch:
Two hard boiled eggs. Sometimes I have chicken salad and 1 egg or a salad. 2 glasses of water.
My usual dinner:
Salad - mostly lettuce, some onion, sprinkle on a little mozzarella cheese. Tonight cauliflower "potato salad". Other nights it's broccoli, zucchini squash, or cole slaw (shredded cabbage & mayo). A nice barbecued fillet mignon. Usually it's chicken or fish. More water. Decaf coffee after dinner.
Snack: 1 oz nuts. Peanuts tonight. I usually try for macademias since they have very little carbs. A couple of more glasses of water.
Didn't get to exercise today. Babysat gradson after dinner (my usual bikeriding/walking time). Should have taken him out but he was tired out from camp.
That's it for today.

Hi Disney Grannie,
Keep journaling & biking, it will make the difference. Sounds like Atkins, is that right? Don't weigh everyday, it can be quite depressing. Which for me makes me lose my cheat free status. I'm doing bad this week, but my clothes fit so much better. We're neighbors, I'm in Tyler Walk. Maybe I'll see you biking.
Keep the faith and I'll check in again

Hi neighbor,
I'm in Tyler Walk too. Been here about 24 years now. Do you bike every day? We bike a few times a week, usually after dinner before it gets dark.
I'm not getting weighed until Sunday. That will be my 3 week mark.
nancyj_pa

By the way, I'm on the Protein Power diet. It's a lot like Atkins. Low carbs. I've tried just about every one there is over the years. This one worked for me once before (only about 15 pounds worth) and I find it easy to follow...just boring after a while. It took 6 months to lose the 15 pounds with very little cheating. Then Thanksgiving came along...the stuffing, cranberries, etc.
I limit carbs to about 25 - 30 per day max. I also drink at least 8 glasses of water. The only other beverage I drink is coffee...light (half regular, half decaf) in the A.M. and decaf after dinner.
Next week I'm going to the Jersey shore for five days. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep this up. I'm really determined.

Tyler Walk singles or townhomes, do you bike in the development? I don't bike but sometimes walk. I just checked the newtown bike shop to get my bike serviced and buy a child seat so I can get back on the towpath. I need to do stuff early am to fit it into my day except weekends. Have you done the canal towpath?
The jersey shore will be hard, at least it is for me. So stay focused and walk that beach, great for your calves.

Hi Auntmeme,
I live in the singles...the first section built(409). We do ride only in the development for now. We never tried the canal path but have biked across the street in Tyler Park. We haven't done that in years and don't think I can bike back up the hill to come home. By the way, DH bought my bike for me at the Newtown bike shop two years ago.
We usually bike along Parkview between Connover and the end of North Park is it? Before the hill we turn back toward home and go in and out all the cul de sacs. My DH goes all the way around the development when he is alone, but I can't do the hills. My knees ache too bad. Maybe I can work up to it before winter.
I'm looking forward to the shore. My sister has a home on the beach where we'll be staying. At least I can prepare food at home and we don't have to eat out. I should do O.K.

I ate very lightly so far today. A few spoonfuls of cottage cheese for breakfast with coffee. About 4 large glasses of water. Two tablespoons of chicken salad. In work, I got lots of exercise today. Did a lot of walking around and some climbing.
Trying to decide what to do about dinner. Trying to clear out the refrigerator before vacation. Maybe an omelet.

I couldn't wait until tomorrow to get weighed. Isn't that awful. I had to peek. I lost 2 pounds this week which is great for me. If I could do that every week I'd have it made. Usually, about 2 pounds per month is what I lose when dieting.
Every pound is encouraging. I'm going to try to weigh in less often. That way I won't get depressed when nothing happens.
The weather is beautiful here this weekend. Great opportunity to exercise. I'm going to try to do laps in the pool, ride my bike, and take a couple of walks.

Sunday, August 24
Hi Meme,
Yesterday I did get in the bike ride. The only walking I did was around the Acme buying a few things for DH's birthday barbecue today. His actual birthday is tomorrow, but we'll be at the Jersey shore. So DD, DS, and their families are coming over this afternoon.
This morning DH and I walked around Tyler Park on their exercise trail. It was beautiful, both weatherwise and the scenery was great.
It's a little over a mile. Along the way there are 20 exercise points where you can stop and do the exercise listed on the sign.
It was a little hilly and my knees were aching which caused us to slow down a bit. But it was fun and I'll try to do it more ofter.
Today I had cottage cheese for breakfast, a salad with chicken in it for lunch, and plan to have steak and/or chicken for dinner with a little cauliflower salad. I made potato salad for everyone else and they're having corn on the cob.
I'm bring lots of my foods with me tomorrow when I leave for the shore. Salads, dressing, chicken, steak, tuna, cottage cheese, bottled water, etc. so I'll have plenty to eat without being tempted. I probably will have some white wine though. After all, it is vacation and the wine has very little carbs. :bounce: :bounce:

Friday evening...just got back from a few days at the shore. I followed my diet and did great on that. But my ankles swelled up and my knees ached the entire time. My sister has an upside down house with the kitchen, etc upstairs and the bedrooms and family room downstairs. I must have walked up and down the stairs at least 20 to 25 times per day. Also, the beach is eroding and is now difficult to navigate up and down to get to the ocean. The sand is SO deep, and there's a giant hill to navigate over the dunes. I went to the beach 3 days and then my legs gave out. I did manage a walk on the boardwalk one evening with my grandson and his cousins.
Now I'm going to catch up on my mail and newspapers and sit with my feet up. I'm drinking lots of water and hopefully will reduce the swelling soon. This happened on my cruise four months ago too. I swelled from all the walking I did (and probably the heat didn't help either).
I'm going to wait until Sunday to weigh in. I'm afraid I'd be disappointed now with all this water weight.
nancyj_pa
08-31-2003, 09:41 AM
Sunday, Aug 31
Weigh in was this morning. What a disaster! I gained 5 pounds since Monday morning. I had no sugar or flour all week. No sweets. I probably had more carbs than usual while at the shore...barbecue sauce on some ribs I was served, a few glasses of white wine, and some vinagrette dressing on a salad while eating out (no ranch/blue cheese available).
Lack of exercise was probably a factor. However, four months ago on my cruise (long before dieting started) I ate anything and everything and only gained three pounds in 8 days.
I am discouraged, disappointed, and feel like a failure. I am continuing on though. I will not give up. My swollen feet seem to be back to normal and my knees feel a bit better today. I will ride my bike and do some walkiing if I can tolerate it.
:( :( :(

Meme,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I biked this morning, a little longer than usual. Plan to do some more later.
Back to my usual meals.
Cottage cheese/blueberries for breakfast.
Salad with chicken salad for lunch.
Plan on having steak, broccoli, and more salad for dinner.
Already drank lots of water. Will keep on drinking it. I did drink less water last week than usual. I've got to focus again on what I was doing well.

Whew! I won't have to send back my 5 lb clippie after all. It must be some water weight because I'm 2 pounds lighter this morning than I was yesterday. Hopefully, the same thing will happen tomorrow.
Sunday I did bike twice. Today it's raining so we're going to Lowe's and to the mall to do some shopping. At least it involves some walking.
Had 2 strips of bacon & 2 eggs for breakfast. 2 cups of lite coffee and a glass of water. Woke up with a terrible migraine but it seems to have passed after taking advil.

Another pound gone!! Yeah. I had chicken fingers for dinner last night. They were yummy. I cut breasts into strips, dipped in egg, and coated with parmesan cheese and fried in some olive oil. I had them with mashed cauliflower. I tried to see if I could get it to tast like mashed potatoes. It was really a stretch of the imagination but it tasted pretty good.
Today I had my usual cottage cheese and blueberries for breakfast, chicken salad and hard boiled egg for lunch, lots of water, and for dinner...DH made his famous meatballs but used parm cheese to hold together instead of bread crumbs...I think he used just a little bread crumbs. I had a nice salad and some leftover cauliflower. More water. I've been so full lately I'm not even tempted to eat after dinner.
Didn't get any exercise today. It's raining outside and couldn't ride my bike or take a walk. I HATE my treadmill. I fell off of it and got hurt about two years ago when it speeded up (mechanical problem) and threw me off. I wasn't wearing the safety string at the time and my leg got stuck under it. I couldn't get up until DS rescued me a few minutes later. How scary.
I've used it a couple of times since but still feel threatened by it. I don't enjoy it anyway so it's an excuse not to use it, I know.

I couldn't help but get weighed again to see if I lost the dreaded increase from last week. It is gone!! I lost another pound and am on my way to onderland.
I ate my usual yesterday and even had a few macadamias for snack. DH and I walked in drizzle for about 15 minutes. Better than nothing.
Today's my late day at work. Probably won't have time tonight for walking or biking. Looking forward to a nice weekend.

Doreen,
Thanks for the nice words. I'm feeling better every day. I'm always full and don't miss the carbs. My biggest problem is exercising. I've always hated it (except for the walking and biking).
And the older I get, the harder it is. Maybe after losing about 20 more pounds my legs will feel better and I'll be able to do a lot more.
Thursday,
Breakfast - cottage cheese/a few strawberries. 2 cups of coffee w/cream, large glass of water
Midmorning - 2 more glasses of water
Lunch - leftover chicken fingers and a hard boiled egg. 2 more glasses of water
Diinner - a big salad with tuna and a hardboiled egg, blue cheese dressing - more water. Decaf coffee after dinner.
It's now 8:30 P.M. I'm ready to get some more water in me now.
I'm waiting until Sunday to weigh in. It'll be six weeks. Hopefully, I'll get my new clippie then. It's also the day of my DD's wedding shower. I'll have to be careful.

Hello, good job this week, I bet you will get that new clippie:D
Have a wonderful shower, how exciting when is the big day? I read somewhere that to help not eat so much at parties you should talk alot with people, so you don't have time to put food in your mouth. I have a party tonight and I'm gonna have to really focus. Have a great sunny weekend! yeah!!!
nancyj_pa
09-06-2003, 09:51 AM
I'm going to follow your advice, MeMe, about doing a lot of talking at the shower. I told DDIL who's hosting to make sure I had something to eat. She promised.
The wedding is October 4. Another challenging day coming up. I'll make sure to talk a lot again. At least I don't have too much stress this time. This is DD's second time around and she and fiance are taking care of most of it themselves.
I'm kind of looking forward to weigh in tomorrow. I'll be disappointed (but won't give up) if I don't have my 10 pound loss by then. My goal is to have a 30-pound weight loss by Christmas (it's really a stretch for me the slow loser). That means I'll have to be extra careful through the wedding and Thanksgiving holidays. I'll need to lose about 2 pounds per week. I know most people lose more at the beginning, so it'll be difficult.
MsDisney
09-06-2003, 01:38 PM
Nancy,
I'm with you on the slow loss! I guess we have to try our best to not get discouraged and to stay on track!!! I have a goal to lose 25 pounds by my birthday (Dec. 6th), which I thought would be easy looking at other people's losses on Atkins, but now I'm thinking, with almost 4 weeks down and only 7 pounds gone, I have to realize it might not happen. But, what WILL happen, whether we achieve the weight goals or not is that we'll be MUCH better off than we were a year ago and we'll be healther and fitter and maybe the scale won't show it, but we're smaller too!!! :)
Good luck getting through the celebrations, it's not easy, but remember, you're working too hard to let one day ruin it for you! If you slip, just brush yourself off, it's not going to set you back months...just a day or so! You'll be fine!!! :)
Have a great weekend!

So, Nancy, how did weigh-in go? I'm sending pixie dust your way for a happy reading on the scale!! You're doing so well - keep up the good work and the pounds will go away. Don't forget to take measurements - sometimes you're losing inches even when the scale isn't moving. It's one of the strange truths of eating low-carb! I bet your clothes are fitting better!

Hi Doreen,
The weigh in went well. I lost another pound so I reached my 10 pound loss. I'm not changing my clippie yet, though, because I just returned from my daughter's bridal shower. I was running around like a nut most of the time and had very little to eat (two chicken wings without sauce and a few pieces of cheese) but I drank two glasses of white wine. I'll have a light dinner. Usually when I eat this way (not enough veggies or protein and not enough water) I tend to gain a pound or two. So I'll weigh in again tomorrow to see what the damage is.
I haven't taken any measurements. My clothes seem a little looser.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Monday, Sept 8
My weight seems to have held up after the shower. I don't think I gained. I'll check again tomorrow.
Breakfast - cottage cheese w/3 strawberries, 2 cups of lite coffee w/half and half. 10 oz water
Midmorning - 2 more glasses of water
Lunch - 4 slices turkey, 4 slices cheese rolled up. 2 glasses of water.
Dinner - chicken salad, hard boiled egg, asparagus - another glass of water, 1 cup decaf w/half and half
More water after dinner. No wonder I'm in the bathroom at 5 A.M.
Went for a bike ride after dinner.
Felt great today. Knees didn't ache at all.

Thanks to all of you I now have my 10 pound clippie. I was able to keep the weight steady this past weekend despite the shower and having a few of my DDIL's stuffed cabbages. I figured they'd be O.K. (cabbage, ground meat, and a few grains of rice, right?). Well, I asked her for the recipe today and she told me she cooked them in tomato soup with added sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, etc. No wonder they tasted so good!! It's the first taste of sugar I had in over 6 weeks, so I cheated even though I didn't know it at the time. I wonder how many carbs they have?
Just got back from my daily bike ride. What a beautiful evening. I'm doing it in half the time now, so I'm probably going to try it twice around the next time.

Wednesday, Sept 10
Went to the dentist for cleaning; went into work late. My meals were a couple of hours off. Don't like to go off schedule. I didn't get dinner until 7:15.
Breakfast - cottage cheese, strawberries, coffee, water
Lunch - chicken salad. A couple of glasses of water
Dinner - bacon, egg, & cheese omelet. More Water.
Snack - A few nuts, sugar free jello with a little whipped cream
More water.
I did go for a bike ride before dinner.
My knees are feeling a lot better. Just that small amount of weight loss seems to have done some good, unless it is the fact that there hasn't been any rain. Rainy days make them worse.
My clothes seem a little looser. No big size change yet. I bought a new shirt and it was my usual size. I really hoped to lose it in my breasts since that's where I always gain weight but it seems to have come off in my waist.

Friday, Sept 12
Worked all day and came home a little tired. The weather is starting to get dreary looking. It'll be raining soon.
Breakfast - cottage cheese/strawberries, coffee, water
Lunch - 2 hard boiled eggs, sugar-free jello cup
2 bottles of water
Dinner - flounder, broccoli, 2 glasses of water.
The flounder was great! I dipped it in egg, coated with parmesan cheese, and sauted in olive oil. DH and I liked it a lot better than when I use bread crumbs or other coatings. It came out golden and flaky. Yum!
Didn't get any exercise in today except for running up and down the stairs a few times. I'm planning on watching Dr. Phil soon so I'll just be a couch potato tonight.
Today I fit into a pair of khakis I haven't worn in quite a while. It felt really good. I don't think I lost any weight this week, but I might have lost some inches. I haven't been measuring.

Saturday Sept 13
Lots of rain this morning.
We're supposed to go to DD's house to watch the air show from her back yard. She lives close to the base where it's being held. Hopefully, it'll clear up by this afternoon.
DH is making his famous meatballs and I'll be making deviled eggs. She's expecting LOTS of people if the weather cooperates.
Had bacon & eggs for breakfast. I think I lost 1 pound this week. Official weigh in tomorrow. It's been slow but I'm fitting into a lot of my clothes from a couple of years ago.
That feels good and makes it all worthwhile. I watched Dr. Phil on TV last night for his special. It all made a lot of sense. It's about making smart choices and taking care of yourself. I'm going to try following his inspirational words.

Hi Meme,
You're right about the old clothes. I saved old khakis, jeans, shorts, etc that were in good shape. I'm glad I don't have to buy new ones as I go through losing weight. Hopefully, I'm going to get to the point where I don't have any more old clothes in the right size...a few more sizes down. Most of the smaller sizes went to Good Will long ago.
I finally bought some Atkins Advantage bars at Wallmart. I haven't tried them yet. I'm waiting for a meal replacement. I don't want to eat them as extras. I'm going to look online for a site that has some good prices. Someone on WISH mentioned one before.
Talk to you soon.

Sunday...just checking in. Only lost 1 pound last week. Saturday was difficult. Was at a party...no exercise, not enough water. I ate O.K. a few extra carbs.
Breakfast today, omelet w/provolone cheese and pork roll. Power washed the deck and patio furniture. Heading down to work on Sunday crossword puzzle. Planning to bike ride later. Very humid and buggy outside. Almost got attacked by bees while outside earlier. The sun is starting to shine after a gloomy couple of days.
I've got to try to do better than one pound a week to meet my onderland by Christmas challenge.I was hoping for 2 pounds a week.
I won't give up. If not by Christmas, then I'll be joining the Easter Wishers. Or maybe Valentine's Day.

Monday
Breakfast - cottage cheese, 2 strawberries, 2 cups coffee w/cream, lg glass water
Lunch - 1/2 Atkins Advantage Bar, 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 glasses of water
PM - more water
Dinner - barbecued steak, home made cole slaw, zucchini w/mozzarella cheese melted over it
Snack - macadamia nuts
Wednesday, Sept 17
Was happy this morning. I lost another 2 pounds, I think, if my scale isn't lying. Yipee!
Breakfast - cottage cheese, strawberries, 2 cups coffee w/cream, lg glass water
Midmorning - water
Lunch - 2 deviled eggs, sugar-free jello cup (no carbs), 2 glasses water
Watched Dr. Phil and his 13 picks for his weight challenge while getting dinner together.
Dinner - tuna salad mixed in a garden salad, blue cheese dressing, some cole slaw & leftover zucchini, more water, decaf coffee w/cream.
After dinner, went for a bike ride with DH. I'm feeling pretty good. The old knees haven't been aching since I lost weight. DD's wedding is only 2 1/2 weeks away. Maybe I'll be able to do a lot of dancing to counteract anything I might eat that's a no no. (I'm not planning to, but who knows? Probably, I'll just have a couple of drinks instead and stick to good food choices)
I figured out that when I have a couple of glasses of wine, I really hold water. I don't lose weight until a couple of days have passed. Then it'll go away. I'm not normally a drinker at all, but with the shower, girls night out coming up, and then the wedding things won't be "normal." I'll do my best and keep on plugging away afterwards no matter what the outcome.

Nancy, Way to go with the exercise. That's what I haven't added in yet. I homeschool my 2 oldest and have a 3 year old besides. If I don't get it done in the morning, there is no way it can get in the rest of the day. Nights are filled with soccer practice, gymnastics, church, preparing school for the next day, dinner and just plain old housework. But others have been able to get it in, right? And we all have the same 24 hours, right? so no excuses I guess.

Nancy, you're doing so well!! I'm glad to hear that your low-carb eating has had a good impact on your knee pain!! Besides helping you lose weight, eating low-carb tends to help any kind of inflammation problems, like sore knees. I think you've picked a good eating plan for you!! If you ever binge on carbs, see if that knee pain comes back for a few days - then you'll know that low-carb truly is helping!!
Whether you make it to Onederland by Christmas or not, you're certainly being so good to yourself by eating healthy foods and exercising! You're getting healthier every day!! Way to go!!

Friday, Sept 19
Feeling kind of down today. At the beginning of the week I saw a 2 pound loss. Now it's only a 1 pound loss. I thought this would be a good week for me. I ate a half of Atkins Advantage bar on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (counted into my daily carb allowance). Could this be the problem? I know some other posters think so. Are these bars really as low carb as they say?
I'm not going to eat any for the next few days. Official weigh in is Sunday. I know I drive myself crazy weighing in so often but I can't seem to help it. I want to know if I'm off track before it gets out of hand.
I didn't get exercise yesterday with the hurricane and all, but I have been riding my bike when weather permits...at least 4 times a week. Nothing else seems different.
Oh, well. Today is cleaning day and I'm burning up some extra calories and then off to work for a couple of hours. I find I don't think about food like I used to so that's a good thing. Too many other important things going on right now.
Some stress might be starting to build soon with DD's wedding on Oct. 4. Not too much left to do but we worry all the same that something will come up that's unexpected.

You are doing a great job! Keeping in carbs & biking 4 days, wahoo!
The scale just seems to call our names - who said they c ould talk???:p
I also wonder about the bars? I cut out the so-called low carb candy from last week when I didn't see a loss and I only had 2 pieces the whole week. I think someone posted that it has some ingredient in it that may cause no loss. I'd like to see what others think, I'll do a post.
Keep it up to go down:D

No loss this past week. How disappointing but not surprising. Hope to do better this week. Too many dinners out, a few glasses of wine.
With my metabolism, any variance slows up the whole process. I'll be glad when the whole wedding thing is over in two weeks.

Saturday,
Well, I haven't written since Monday when I reported no weight loss. I've been bummed out all week about it, to tell the truth. I know it's a life change for me and not a weight loss marathon, but it's always nice to lose a little after trying so hard.
Tomorrow is my official weigh in (and Monday for my Onderland challenge) but I think I'll do better. I had a good week with no dinners out and no parties, etc. DH's two golf buddies are coming in to town tonight and staying for a few days, but they'll eat anything so I won't have to cook no-no's. DH is doing breakfast and they'll probably eat out a lot. He did buy extra pretzels, beer, and doritos but they don't tempt me.
The weather is beautiful. I've been riding my bike almost every day. My clothes are getting looser around the waist and hips.
Hopefully, I'll get a new clippie tomorrow but if not, next week for sure!

Sunday Sept. 28
It's raining outside this morning, but I'm really sunny!! 3 more pounds gone forever. I got my new clippie for 15 pounds lost.
After only losing 1 pound in the last two weeks, this is a big improvement for me. Eating out and going to parties is a real detriment even though I try to eat right. My whole system goes out of whack or something. Less water, less exercise, just a little extra carbs in a sauce or something...
All week I had my usual cottage cheese with some strawberries or blueberries, coffee, and water.
Lunch was chicken salad, hard boiled eggs, or rolled lunch meat (turkey) with cheese.
Dinner was steak, burgers, chicken, scallops, or fish with broccoli, cauliflower, green squash, and lots of salad.
I drank at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. In the evening, I snacked on cheese or macadamia nuts. I haven't been hungry at all.
Today I had eggs, sausage, and bacon for breakfast. I made up another batch of chicken salad for lunches or snacking. We're invited to a barbecue for dinner. I'm debating whether or not to go. DH wants me to because we're supposed to go with our guests (his golfing buddies).
I don't want to undo my good results. DD's wedding is on Saturday with a rehearsal dinner on Friday. I'll probably be cheating a little then but I'll do my best.

Tuesday, Sept 30
Hard to believe September is just about over. I've been eating well and feel so much better. Having my usual but just found low carb Breyers ice cream and low carb Arnold's wheat and whole grain breads in my supermarket.
I saved a few carbs so I could try the ice cream last evening. It's nothing like the real Breyers, but it wasn't all that bad. It's made with Splenda. I put the bread in the freezer to save for the day when I make beef stew (low carb, of course) or chili...probably without beans. I'll be looking for a low carb recipe for that as well.
I rode my bike yesterday but was unable to today. I worked later than usual and got home shortly before dark. I'll try tomorrow. I'm going to miss being able to exercise outside. I dread opening up my WATP video. I usuallly hate to exercise indoors.

Wednesday, October 1
I ate well again today. Cottage cheese and blueberries for breakfast w/2 cups lite coffee.
A few glasses of water
Lunch - hard boiled egg and some chicken salad, water
Dinner - grilled chicken breast, home-made cole slaw, brussel sprouts, more water, decaf coffee
No exercise. Cold outside. It's supposed to go into the 30's tonight.
Hope it warms up for DD's wedding Saturday. Having lots of people over Friday evening for beer, wine, and pizza (none for me. I'm thinking up a good alternative).
I think I lost another pound which is good because this weekend will be a real challenge.

Monday, October 6
I maintained my weight last week. That is a miracle. DD's wedding and rehearsal dinner made life difficult although everything went well and I'm extremely happy about everything except my weight.
I limited my portions but had a few glasses of wine each night. I know from experience that usually keeps me from losing until I drink a LOT of water for a few days. I'm doing that now.
Hopefully, I'll start seeing a loss soon again. I want to get to ONDERland by Christmas, and that means another 14 pounds. Time is running out. Gee, it's already almost the 2nd week of October. The holidays will be here before we know it.
I'm still hoping to find a recipe for low carb stuffing. Maybe next weekend I'll start experimenting. I already bought the low carb Arnold's bread.

Just a short note before Survivor begins...tonight I am a couch potato.
I've been eating pretty well. Trying a few new recipes. Will talk about them later. Don't think I've lost any weight this week yet but haven't gotten weighed in a few days.
Tomorrow is my birthday. I won't have cake!! Going out to dinner Saturday evening.
I'm drinking plenty of water and trying to keep the carbs low. Riding my bike weather permitting. Doing 5K walk on Saturday for Alzheimer's Disease.

Saturday AM, 10/11/03
Friday's meals
Breakfast: Cottage cheese w/blueberries, 2 cups lite coffee w/half & half; glass of water
3 glasses of water in AM
Lunch: ham and cheese slices rolled up with mayo; more water
Afternoon: more water; cup of lite coffee w/ half & half
Dinner: was at a tavern with a group from work having a goodbye party for 2 people who got transferred. It was also my birthday. Had a special caesar sald with mushrooms and peppers. Only could eat half of it. I had a couple of glasses of white wine which would have been fine. Then someone mentioned my birthday and I wound up with another 2 glasses. Thank goodness DH was driving. I'm not used to drinking and had to go straight to bed at 9:30.
Weigh in is tomorrow for WISH and Monday for ONDERland. I was doing really well all week, but the wine always causes a stall although it has very few carbs.
DS and DDIL taking me out to dinner tonight. Will try to be good. Definitely NO WINE! I'm doing my 5K walk tomorrow morning for charity and want to be in good shape.

By the way, I made stuffing the other evening out of Arnold's low carb bread. I sauted onion and celery in butter, broke 4 slices of bread into small pieces, and added together with a little half and half and an egg. I added spices and then baked for about 40 minutes and served with left over turkey. DH loved it. I ate only a small portion and it tasted pretty good. I'll probably make some for Thanksgiving. I also make a pot of chili. All the ingredients I used for the pot came to about 75 carbs (envelope of McCormick's chili mix, ground meat {very lean}, canned tomatoes, and kidney beans). I ate about 1/4 of it for dinner. It was more carbs than I'm used to and it didn't fill me as much as my usual dinner of about 10 carbs. I was hungry all evening and snacked on cheese and nuts. I probably won't eat that again but it tasted good for a change.

Sunday, Oct 12
Well, today was my 5K Memory Walk for Alzheimer's Disease. It was a beautiful day and over 4,000 walkers participated. It was a lot easier for me this year than last with my lower weight and because my knees are now stronger and don't hurt since I lost 15 pounds. DH and our 11 year old grandson walked with me.
Breakfast: cottage cheese/blueberries, 2 cups lite coffee, water
More water during the walk
Lunch: Hot dog minus the bun, water, and 4 slices of cheese when I got home.
Dinner: I made a delicious roast beef. Had 2 slices, mushrooms, and home made cole slaw (mostly cabbage and mayo). Also, caesar salad. More water. Decaf coffee.
I'm waiting until tomorrow A.M. to do my weigh in. Too much of a rush this morning. I think I maintained again. It's been slow lately with so much going on in my life. This week should be a lot simpler and calmer.

I'm being extra careful this week. I need to lose a little more each week so that I can make my ONDERland by Christmas goal. Only 1 pound in 3 weeks because of DD's wedding, my birthday, and lots of parties and dinners out.
Monday, Oct 13
Breakfast 7:45 AM - cottage cheese & blueberries, coffee (lite), and water
Midmorning - 3 glasses of water and a cup of coffee
Lunch 12:30 PM - chicken salad, one hard boiled egg, more water
Afternoon - water
Dinner 6:15 - scallops w/green pepper & mushrooms sauted in butter, green beans, home-made cole slaw. Water followed by decaf coffee.
Didn't exercise today. Did plenty over the weekend (for me!)
1/2 day of work tomorrow. Hope to ride bike in the P.M. before rain starts.
Hopefully, I won't get hungry this evening. Last evening I had some cheese and macadamia nuts.

Wednesday, Oct 15
Breakfast: cottage cheese w/blueberries, lite coffee, water
Lunch: chicken salad, hard boiled egg, water
Dinner: big salad with tuna, shredded cheese, mushrooms, onion, green pepper and ranch dressing, water
Drank about 10 glasses of water today so far. I think I lost another pound.
No exercise today. VERY windy outside and I cannot ride my bike. I haven't unwrapped my WATP tape yet.

Friday, Oct 17
Thursday was my usual menu for breakfast & lunch. Dinner was a salad with turkey & cheese lunchmeat in it and a small bit of leftover chili minus the beans. Had macadamia nuts, sugarfree jello w/whipped cream for snack.
It was my late day at work & was dark when I got out. No exercise.
Friday AM - I am off from work today. DH and I had a nice breakfast together: 2 sausages & 2 fried eggs, lots of water, lite coffee w/cream (2 cups).
Midmorning we went for a long walk together...about 2 miles. It's a bit dreary outside but it was O.K.
Lunch: salad w/eggsalad, dressing, lunchmeat & cheese. More water. Also, sugar free jello again.
Going to DD's for dinner. They're making stiry fry chicken w/veggies. I should be able to eat most of it. We're going to see her honeymoon photos and watch the wedding video again that DS made (it's actually very good for an amateur).

Sunday, Oct 19
My boring, uneventful week finally paid off. I lost three more pounds! I walked more than usual and didn't eat out except at DD's where I was very, very good.
This is the first week in a long time when I lost more than 1 pound. I really needed to speed up the pace a little to stay on goal for my ONDERland by Christmas challenge. Only 10 more pounds to go.
Last evening I had a bite of a Zcarb candy bar. It tasted like a Hershey's Almond bar except with dark chocolate. It was hard to believe it had no carbs at all. I've been looking for it in 7-Eleven for a while now and finally found it.
It looks like another dreary day. Hopefully, the sun will come out later for my bike ride/walk.

Everything pretty much the same. I'm eating healthy but getting less exercise because of the weather change. Every day I keep telling myself I'm going to unwrap my WATP tape but I haven't yet. I'd much rather be here on the boards.
I just bought 3 more ZCarb candy bars. I only eat about a third of one at a time...never more than once a day. I'm afraid they'll cause a stall in my weight loss. Even with 0 carbs I know they can be a problem...just like drinking wine does to me.
I'm hoping for at least a 1 pound weight loss this week so I can get a new clippie.:bounce: :bounce:

I had cottage cheese & blueberries, lite coffee, and water for breakfast. Drank lots of water in A.M.
Worked 1/2 day (til 1:30), came home, had 3 slices turkey wrapped around provolone cheese for a late lunch and more water.
Went for a long walk with DH around the state park across the street from my home...about 2 miles or so. It felt so good. The weather was crisp and sunny and the leaves were all changing colors.
Planning on scallops for dinner. Hope to have a good weigh in this weekend.

I'm still eating the usual. The scale doesn't seem to be moving. I think I'm eating too late in the day. I've been snacking on cheese and macadamia nuts after dinner.

Good luck with your weigh-in this weekend, Nancy!
Low-fat and low-calorie dieters often lose weight at a steady pace, but low-carbers seem to lose in fits and starts. It's pretty common to stay the same for a few weeks and then drop 3 pounds (a visit from the Whoosh Fairy :D ). Try not to get discouraged about it - it's not necessarily that you are doing anything wrong. It's a common pattern with lots of us low-carbers. If you haven't lost anything in 5 weeks, then it's time to do something to jump-start your body's weight loss again. A post to the WISH board will give you lots of ideas on how to break a stall.
You are doing so well, Nancy!! You've come through some really stressful events and you're still on plan! You should be very proud of yourself and I'm sure you're feeling healthier!
You mentioned that your clothes are getting looser. Sometimes when the scale isn't moving, you are losing inches. You may want to add taking measurements to your official weigh-ins. I know losing inches helps me stay motivated when the scale isn't moving! Low-carbers often lose inches or weight - but rarely lose both at the same time.
Onward and downward!! I just know you can make it to Onederland by Christmas!! :sunny:

I found you. You have been so supportive to me in beginning my journey of weight loss that I thought I would check in on you.
I did buy the WAPT tape and I love it. Unwrap it and commit to 15 minutes. I really did feel more energized after the tape.
You are doing great. I look at your menu and think wouldn't it be great if I could do the carb thing one week and the calorie thing the next. However, I am sure that is not a feasible plan
How much is your total weight loss? You get an A in my book for commitment and going back to the journey whenever you sidetrack. Good for you.
I agree with the measuring part. It might give you another way to measure your success.
Have a good week and good luck with your next weigh in.

Since we're expecting a beautiful, warmer than usual weekend, I will be out on my bike and walking this weekend. But I will unwrap that tape soon. I have the 2-mile one. I was able to do the 5K walk without a problem, so this should be O.K. for me. I'll start it as soon as it's too cold to exercise outside.

I'm still 1 pound away from my 20 pound clippie. Weigh in is Sunday. I didn't lose last week so I'm hoping for at least that 1 pound, but I'll have to accept it if I maintain again.
I haven't exercised as much as usual. Feeling tired in the evening now that daylight savings is gone.
Still eating the same old things. For dinner tonight at DD's for Halloween I had a cheese steak w/onions minus the roll. It was pretty good. I wasn't even tempted by the candy. I carried around a Zcarb candy bar just in case but it wasn't needed.
nancyj_pa
11-02-2003, 10:49 AM
I only lost half a pound last week. Still no 20 pound clippie. I missed it by a half pound and I still have a retirement party to attend this afternoon.
Thank goodness the weather is beautiful. DH and I walked in the park for a couple of miles yesterday and I plan to ride my bike today.
My slow weight loss is putting me behind in my ONDERland by Christmas challenge. If it doesn't pick up soon (especially with Thanksgiving coming)) I think I'll be a few pounds away still by Christmas.
I won't give up, though. I had no candy for Halloween, and I really haven't cheated since beginning in August. I feel healthier and my clothes look better already.

Just a quick checkin. I lost 1/2 pounds last week. Someone once told me that the more you have to lose the quicker it will be. NOT true.
I think it all depends on your metabolism. That's why we all lose at different rates. Since I had thyroid disease, it's been such a struggle. I keep on trying and reallly don't miss any of my previous foods. Low carb is now easy; the exercise is difficult.

How are you doing? it looks like pretty good. I've only read the last page of your journal and though that scale is giving you a hard time, you are doing great. 1/2 lb better than none and you made it through the 5k walk, wow! I have faith the whoosh fairy will visit you again soon. I also miss the light in the evening, it is way too dark after work. I have just restarted doing the WATP video, it's better than nothing. So unwrap yours and join the group;)
Isn't it the best time to walk in Tyler State Park? I love the park this time of year. See you around the neighborhood.

Hi Meme,
I'm doing O.K. I hoped to be doing a bit better by now. It's really been kind of slow.
You're right about the park. The leaves are so crunchy, and it's especially beautiful along the creek. We found a wonderful path that's pretty flat so I don't have to worry about the hills (coming down kills my knees).
I guess you're getting back to normal after your trip. Things were pretty hectic there for you, I guess. We went the end of Sept into the beginning of Oct right after 9/11 so it wasn't too crowded for us then. But the crowds around the Magic Kingdom during and after fireworks were unbelievable and a bit uncomfortable.
I plan to unwrap my tape soon. Maybe this weekend. I'll see how the weather is. I'd much rather do a walk outside.

I watched Dr. Phil yesterday. It's nice to see all those people losing weight. I just get upset that I follow my plan so faithfully and my losses are so slow compared to others. I know everyone is different and my thyroid disease slows things down, but...
I'm going to try not eating after dinner and perhaps moving my dinners a little later and having a small snack late afternoons. Maybe this will pick things up a little. I tend to snack on cheese in the evenings.

I got through the last 2 evenings without eating cheese. Last evening I had some macadamia nuts. I'm going to try not weighing myself every day.
I've been eating well and drinking a lot of water. I'm looking forward to the weekend and hope the weather will be nice for outdoor bike riding and walking. If not, I'll unwrap the WATP tape and begin. I know I should do that now, but frankly I'm too tired after working all day to come home to that.

I lost half a pound last week. It's not much but better than not losing any. I started my WATP 2 mile tape Friday because the weather has been so bad. I did the first half. I will try to build up to the whole tape.
This afternoon DD and her family and DS and DDIL are coming for dinner. It's DDIL's birthday. Since we won't be together for Thanksgiving, I'm cooking the turkey today. I also made a cheesecake from the Low Carb recipes listed on WISH. I didn't try it yet so I hope it tastes O.K. I'm planning on having a small piece so I'll let you all know.
I'm still sticking to my eating plan. I haven't had sugar or flour since starting low carbs in early August (at least knowingly). So I'm about 2 1/2 months cheat free. I wish I could be as good at exercising. I usually only exercise when I'm off from work - 2 days a week - now that it's dark when I get home. I used to ride my bike outside quite a bit but I don't like indoor exercise. Maybe I'll get to love the WATP tape after I get used to it.
I still have 7 pounds to lose to get to ONDERland by Christmas. It's starting to look out of reach. I might need a couple of extra weeks but I won't give up!

Sunday, November 22
Things have been moving SLOWLY! I only maintained last week and I was so good. I managed to exercise a bit, too.
The last two days I rode my bike outside since the weather was so nice.
This will be a difficult weekend coming up. We're going to DS's house in southern Maryland for the holiday. I won't be cooking (first time in 37 years), but I'll be bringing along some of my low carb goodies for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Thanksgiving dinner itself is at my DDIL's sister's house. There will be about 30 for dinner.
I'm really looking forward to seeing my 3 grandchildren there. Weather permitting, I'll try to walk outside, and I'll be sure to drink a lot of water.

Friday after Thanksgiving
I did pretty well on the holiday. I had turkey, green beans, a little bit of turnips, two tablespoons of stuffing. I didn't have as much water as usual. No dessert. Later in the day I had a 0 carb bar. I feel I did O.K.
I won't be getting weighed until sometime Sunday P.M. because I'm away from home. This is probably a good thing. I'm enjoying my grandchildren, but I'm not getting much exercise. The weather here is not very nice...very gloomy and drizzly.
nancyj_pa
12-02-2003, 04:37 PM
Well, last week I managed to maintain. Since I was good on Thanksgiving, I was hoping for a pound or two lost. But this is a new week and I'm still trying.
I find I really miss the nice weather and exercising outdoors. I really wish I were at WDW now. We don't manage to get there very often, but maybe next year. There's always so much going on.
I'm still basically eating the same meals. About 6 carbs for breakfast, 0 for lunch, and meat/fish/poultry, veggie, salad w/dressing for dinner. Trying to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Snacking on macadamia nuts or sugar free jello. Lack of exercise hurts. I just can't seem to get started after working all day and I have no time in the morning since I have to drive an hour each way to and from work.
The older I get, the slower my metabolism. One of these days maybe they'll invent something easy to speed it up that's good for you.

12-08-2003, 07:47 PM
I lost another half pound last week. That's a total of 22 pounds...just about my 10% level. I was hoping to lose another 7 pounds by Christmas to reach my ONDERland by Christmas goal, but time is running out. I won't give up. If not by Christmas, then by Valentine's Day for sure.
I feel good and my knees no longer ache. I get up and down the stairs a lot easier. I'm fitting into a lot of my old clothes. I have a lot to be thankful for.
I set up a few doctor appointments in the next few weeks. Hopefully, my cholesterol levels will be better as well as the blood pressure. My thyroid function should be the same since this way of eating doesn't affect that.
Winter is here with a vengeance. Lots of snow this past weekend. No way I can ride my bike outside. Too cold anyway. But I'm just too lazy to exercise indoors. I did a lot of dancing, though, since I just attended a wedding and a Christmas party the same weekend.
My shopping is almost complete. All those presents to wrap! I haven't even started decorating. Everything is still in the attic. Hopefully, this weekend will be productive.

It sounds like you're seeing a lot of positive changes! Isn't it great?? When we take good care of ourselves, we usually get rewarded - less aches & pains, clothes fitting better (or a smaller size!). Makes it easier to stick with our healthy way of life!!
I know what you mean about missing the outdoors. I miss walking my puppy. She's small and loses body heat very quickly so I have to be careful about walking her when it gets very cold. Also all the road salt is not good for her paws. I hope this is a short winter in PA!!
Good luck with your doctors' appointments and tests! Hopefully your healthy lifestyle will show up as better test results!!

What a hectic week this has been. Trying to get ready for the holidays and extra things to do at work. I plan all the social functions (Holiday party, associate luncheon) and the community service (adopt-a-family, toy drive, etc).
My eating has been on plan. I still snack in the evening which I would like to cut out. I have some macadamia nuts or cheese around 8:30 or 9 P.M. I make sure not to eat too many carbs, but the nuts do have a lot of calories.
I am still losing, although slowly. Since this is a lifetime commitment, that will have to be O.K. Even half a pound a week will add up in the long run. Once in a while maybe the WHOOSH fairy will visit.

Although weigh in isn't until Sunday for me, I did peek. It looks as though I might have lost a couple of pounds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because it's been a while since I lost more than half a pound a week.
Hopefully, the scale wasn't just being wacky. I'm not going to change my clippie or anything drastic until it's official.

Sunday, Dec 13
Official weigh in was this morning. I lost two pounds last week for a total of 24. Almost time for another clippie. I haven't been exercising at all with the exception of dancing at a wedding and Christmas party last weekend. The weather here is cold and dreary, and I hate to exercise indoors.
I'm sticking to plan. I'm never tempted to cheat. And I'm drinking a lot of water most days. My carb count is usually between 20 and 25 per day.
I am feeling tired a lot. I'm sure exercise would help. I think it's just the weather. My physical is scheduled for Dec 29. I haven't been there for about a year and a half. Hopefully, I'll have good results with my cholesterol, blood pressure, and thyroid problems.
Well, I'm off to wrap some more gifts. Decorating is finished as is most of the shopping. My cards are mailed out. I'm really looking forward to Christmas and spending time with my children and grandchildren.

Well, I weighed myself this morning and lost another pound. That gives me a new clippie. I feel great!
Official weigh in is Sunday, but I was so excited I changed the clippie this morning. Hopefully, things will keep going down.

It was just the one pound loss last week but that's O.K. I got my new 25 pound clippie and am close to ONDERland. I won't make it by Christmas (my goal), but it shouldn't be more than a few more weeks.
I've attended a few holiday parties, had some wine, but otherwise stayed on plan.

Thanks for the good wishes, Erin. Merry Christmas to you and good luck in the new year.
I'm trying to be good. I made two low carb cheesecakes this morning to take with me to my sister's house, and I'm bringing along a big salad, too. I had some wine last night and I'll probably have more today. This will slow me down a bit, but after all it's Christmas!
I don't see any weight loss for this week coming up. I'm going to try to maintain and begin again after New Year's. I'm going to eat mostly on plan and I should get a little more exercise since I'll be with my grandchildren for the next week. I'm really looking forward to having them here with me.
For New Year's, I'm going to set some new goals for myself. First, get to ONDERland by February 1. Second, another 10% weight loss by summer. That should give me plenty of time.

Monday, Dec. 29
I just came from the doctor's office for my annual checkup (actually about 9 months late). I am a lot lighter with the 25 pounds I lost. He took blood to test my cholesterol counts and my thyroid counts as well. I should get the results in a few days. My blood pressure was a bit higher than I would have liked...140 over 90. I have to go back in 6 weeks to have it rechecked.
I should get the blood test results in a few days. I'm anxious to see if my cholesterol went down.
As a point of information, my doctor (who has always been a bit on the chubby side) looked like he lost a lot of weight. I asked him and he told me he just lost 30 pounds on Atkins in less than 7 weeks. He said he feels so much better and I told him I do as well. So I guess doctors are now endorsing this plan a lot more than in the past.
nancyj_pa
01-05-2004, 07:06 PM
How disappointing! The doctor's office called with my results. My cholesterol was 228 (and I've been on meds for a few years) but doctor said it was O.K. I've always had extremely high good cholesterol.
But my glucose was abnormal. I'm not sure what that means. They left a message that if I was fasting when the test was done (and I was), to schedule a follow up visit. I wonder what could be wrong? After losing 25 pounds, eating hardly any sugar, and exercising more than I've done in the past few years I thought everything would come out much better. I couldn't believe my blood pressure was up and now this.
I have an appointment I made previously in about 5 weeks. I'll try to get in for another blood test before then. Maybe it was fluky since it was only a few days after Christmas although I was basically pretty good.

Well, I've had this cold (Upper respiratory thing) for over a week now. Today is the first day I haven't taken medication. Still stuffy and cough now and then. No exercise, just stitting on the couch wrapped in a blanket most of the time when I'm not at work.
Good news is I've dropped another 3 pounds, I think. Weigh-in is tomorrow. I've been eating pretty normal despite the illness but drinking more water than usual.

Sunday, January 18
Just checking in again. I maintained my weight last week. My usual patter now it seems. A couple of weeks of maintenance followed by a loss.
My doctor appointment for follow up is the first week of February, I forgot the date. I have to get my blood pressure checked, and I guess he'll order more blood work to see what's going on there. I haven't rushed back because I'm still fighting the cold (flu?) that I think I got in his office the last time I went. I'm almost better except for a cough.
We ate at Ruby Tuesday's last evening (DH, DD, DS, DDIL, DSIL, and DGS). We had to wait almost an hour to get seated. Lots of low carb stuff on the menu. It was pretty good but I wouldn't wait that long again. I didn't know they had call ahead seating.
Looking forward to the Eagles playoff game this evening. GO EAGLES!

I maintained again last week. I still have the lousy cold. I feel so tired out all the time. I have my follow up visit at the doctor next Tuesday evening.
We've been trying a few new recipes to keep meals and desserts interesting. DH likes most of them, too. I can't believe I'm only a pound and a half from ONDERland and I'm not there yet. Maybe when I feel better and do a little exercise I'll be there.
My carbs are still in the 20 to 25 a day range and I'm drinking at least 10 glasses of water per day. Hopefully, I'll have better news next week.

Feb. 4, 2004
I maintained again last week. January was a useless month for me as far as weight loss goes. I haven't been cheating; just not exercising. I'm finally over my cough and congestion.
Had my doctor appointment follow up last evening. Blood pressure still up (144 over 88), more blood taken to check things out. I am not diabetic but sugar level is too high.
The doctor is still on Atkins and looking good. He told me not to give up and to exercise more. I will try. Follow up appt scheduled for 6 weeks from now.

I haven't checked in for a while. Mostly because I'm still on my plateau. I haven't lost any more weight although I'm still on plan.
My follow up doctor's appt was O.K. Blood pressure a little lower. Doc did more blood tests...extensive ones that I haven't got the results back for yet. I will call this week.
I have joined the April Fool's Day challenge to lose 5 pounds. It will be difficult with the way my weight loss has stalled. But I will try!
I'm only a couple of pounds from ONDERland and want to be there soon.

Well, I haven't been keeping up with my journal lately. I guess it's because I haven't really had anything to be excited about. My weight is still the same as it was in early January. I'm still low carbing and drinking my water and generally feel great.
My April Fool's challenge is going nowhere. I didn't make my ONDERland by Christmas challenge either. When spring arrives, I know I'll get to exercise more and try to eat fewer calories. At least I know how to maintain very well.
I probably won't be writing here again until I lose at least another pound. My meals are generally the same every week so it's no use logging my menus. I drink plenty of water but exercise very little in the winter.
nancyj_pa
03-20-2004, 08:12 AM
Still no loss to report. I got my blood test results. I'm glucose intolerant but not diabetic. The doctor gave me homework...get more exercise! And lose weight. Which is what I've been trying to do.
If I don't, I'll probably get diabetes in 10 years.
Well, on a happier note...spring arrived this morning and the snow is melting. I went for a walk yesterday and plan to do it again tomorrow. I'm looking forward to the birth of a new granddaughter in early July.
On a sadder note...grumpy old boss is coming back from disability in about 10 days. It actually was fun going to work these past 3 months without him. Is it time to retire yet?
I'm still looking to get to ONEDERland soon. And I'm still on plan.
nancyj_pa
04-05-2004, 06:00 PM
Well, it's been so long since I journaled I could hardly find it! I've been feeling great, staying on plan, and trying to get more exercise. I even walked outside with DH yesterday in the bitter cold and wind. I had to wear my parka and still almost froze! Needless to say, it was NOT enjoyable although hubby didn't mind. He walks at least 2 miles a day outside in almost any weather. I wish I had his good habits. I only like to exercise when the weather is nice. Although it's spring, it's been cold and/or rainy (even snow flaky) almost every day in spring so far.
That being said, I am still low carbing and loving it. My body does not want to cooperate insofar as weight loss goes, but I feel I am eating healthier than ever and don't miss the flour and sugar products at all. Eventually, I hope to lose the 50 pounds that I still need to lose. I am SO close to ONEDERland but wonder if somehow I am sabotaging (sp?) myself from reaching it. Only 3 more pounds would do it but I've been hovering at this weight since early January. I guess most people would have given up by now.
I have tried eating more carbs for a week, more fat, etc. and switching things around a bit. I keep my carbs at 20 to 25 a day. You think that would have some effect, but with my lousy metabolism every pound is such a struggle. And the older I get the harder it gets. I know it won't get any easier. But this is a way of life, not a race to lose weight.
I just have to vent now and then to keep me focused. I won't be joining any more challenges for now. It's just too depressing to see how great everyone else does and nothing happens for me.

Hi Meme,
I keep on trying different things, but basically I'm eating the same things and the same way I did while I was losing but the losing stopped. Very frustrating!
The uncooperative weather sure stinks! DH wanted to walk yesterday, but I'm waiting for a sunny day or at least a little warmth! Daylight savings should help. I have that extra hour now before it gets dark.
Sure glad to see you're OP and doing O.K. Hope you found your door mat. The wind has been unbelievable for this time of year.
Talk to you soon. Even if I'm not writing, I'm lurking out there seeing how everyone is doing and looking for ideas to shake up this plateau.

Nancy, I'm so sad to hear about your plateau :( but you are sticking with it and giving your body healthy food! You wouldn't be doing yourself any favors by going off-plan so stick with it, OK?
Daylight savings time is wonderful, isn't it?? I'm really enjoying the extra hour of daylight in the evening - it's much easier to walk outside after work. It's getting warmer by the week and soon we'll have lots of days that will be great for walking!
Just keep hangin' in there!! Hopefully warmer weather, more walking and bike riding, and continued healthy eating will wear down that scale! :sunny:

04-27-2004, 04:03 PM
The weather is getting nicer, and I've started bike riding again. DH pumped up the tires, and away I went! It felt really good. I'm going to try to do it at least 3 days a week and also do more walking.
I haven't lost any more weight yet. I still have a problem with eating in the evening although my carb count is fine for the day. I really think this is part of my problem, but I can't seem to stop. At least I'm snacking on better things...cheese, macadamia nuts, etc.
I'm off to exercise now. I'm going to try to log more often, too.

04-27-2004, 05:52 PM
Well, I rode my bike outside. Dark clouds are threatening now. I'm glad I got back in time.
My food intake today:
B - 1/2 cup cottage cheese
L - 1/2 cup chicken salad (mayo, celery, onion)
S - 1/2 stalk celery, a couple of TBS of brie
Lots of water today. At least 10 glasses so far. I had coffee (3 cups w/half and half).
D - will be a BIG salad - spring salad w/tuna salad and egg salad, onions, and some cheese. We'll be eating a little late this evening because we're planning to vote first when DH gets home.
I do so well all day. I hope the munchies don't come back this evening.
DoeWDW
04-28-2004, 12:11 PM
Nancy, are you sure you're eating enough calories?? It doesn't sound like you're eating very much. That could be one reason for a plateau.
Glad to hear you're exercising more! This warmer weather sure is nice! I hope to see you next Saturday in Doylestown!
nancyj_pa
04-30-2004, 04:37 PM
I'll definitely be doing the Doylestown walk next Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it! I hope we have a beautiful day.
I just came inside after staining the deck. It was great to be outdoors on this gorgeous, sunny day...although it was a bit too hot for working outside. I worked a half day, just got cleaned up, and hope to walk or bike ride after dinner.
B - 1/2 cup cottage cheese
L - salad w/chicken & hard boiled egg, dressing
D - ?? haven't decided yet.
Every since my thyroid problem, I can't eat too much because I have lousy metabolism...actually, I don't think I have any at all. Despite the synthroid, I have to keep my intake low or I gain weight. My friends and family can't believe how much I weigh for how little I eat. I have tried picking up the calories...it doesn't seem to matter. At least low carbing keeps me from gaining. I've gained about 7 or 8 pounds a year for the last 12 years or so, and this is the first time in ages I've lost and kept it off. I'm thankful I'm not gaining.
Exercise must be the answer to pick up my metabolism. I wish I were 30 again!
nancyj_pa
05-03-2004, 05:52 PM
Well, it's another gloomy Monday! I had such a good weekend exercising. Friday I worked a 1/2 day and then stained the deck. Then I rode my bike. Saturday I trimmed all the trees and bushes and rode again. Sunday I scraped wallpaper off the walls of DGS's bedroom walls. What a lot of work. I had a short bike ride before the rain began.
However, Saturday evening I went to a 65th birthday party for a coworker. Her adult children surprised her. It was at a firehouse, and the food selections were limited to foods with carbs except for the deviled eggs. Everything was in gravy, and the broccoli salad had sugar in it. I had a little of these and a couple of eggs. I also had a glass of wine because the only beverages were soda and beer, and red and white wine. I finally managed to get a glass of water from the bar.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I gained 3 pounds overnight Saturday into Sunday. I was afraid to get on the scale this morning. Maybe tomorrow I'll peek. Hopefully, a couple of days of normal low carb eating will get rid of the extra pounds. Since I haven't lost in over 3 months, just gaining a couple is a tragedy for me.

I had a really great weekend. Did the Doylestown walk on Saturday afternoon and met some great WISHers. My legs conked out later that evening, but Sunday they were back to normal.
Mother's Day breakfast was at my DD's house. Her DH made a nice low carb breakfast (omelets) . My DH grilled steaks for dinner that were fabulous! So I stayed on plan all day.
Still haven't lost any more weight. The extra exercise made me feel good, but losing weight wasn't one of the advantages, sorry to say.
I'm gearing up to my trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, this weekend. I plan to do a lot of walking as well as a lot of beaching. DH will be doing a lot of golfing. I really need this vacation!!
Thanks again to Doreen (DoeWDW) for organizing the Doylestown Walk. Maybe next time we'll have even more walkers.

I've been riding my bike outside every day after dinner. Staying on plan pretty much except for a little too much coffee sometimes. My late evening macadamias are still the treat of choice. I wish I could find something else crunchy to enjoy, but I don't like pork rinds and everything else has too many carbs. Sometimes I switch to celery. Any suggestions?

Crunchy snacks are tough, Nancy! Maybe sunflower seeds would work??
It was so nice to meet you last Saturday at Doylestown! I'm so glad that you came! ::yes:: You don't seem like a "grannie" to me - I think you've got plenty of spunk and energy! We'll plan another walk over your way - probably in the fall when it's cooler - and maybe you can talk your DH into walking along!
This warmer weather makes it so much easier to get outside and exercise! I'm glad to see you're enjoying it with your bike rides!
I'm sorry that you're having such a tough time with the scale. I haven't done much research in the particular areas that are making it hard for you to lose, so I don't have any advice other than you've already said - you're not gaining so that is truly a blessing!
Hope you have a :sunny: day!

My DS and his wife stopped over last evening to bring me my belated Mother's Day gifts. They were away last weekend. I got flowers, a video, and a low-carb cookbook. Some of the recipes look fantastic! There's even one for "Mockahlua" that's supposed to taste like real Kahlua. It's made with instant coffee crystals and vodka, among other things.
Tonight we have a wedding to attend. I'll try to be good, I promise. But I do plan to have a glass or two of wine. If I dance a lot, maybe some of those extra calories/carbs will disappear.
Tomorrow we're leaving for our trip to Myrtle Beach. We'll be driving with an overnight stop at our other DS's home in southern Maryland.
I'm really looking forward to a week on the beach relaxing and getting a tan while DH is golfing with his retired buddies who live there.
Today I am changing my clippie back one notch since I still haven't lost the 3 pounds I gained two weekends ago. I've been exercising and really trying, but no luck. I have to comfort myself that I'm eating healthier, exercising more, and drinking lots of water.

Got back this morning from vacationing at Myrtle Beach, SC. It was so relaxing! Lounged by the pools, lazy river, jacuzzi's and even sat on the beach and got wet in the ocean! What a difference in temperature between the ocean in NJ and SC.
I am happy to report that I stayed on plan with the exception of some cappucinocoladas topped with whipped cream at poolside and some wine with dinner. We ate all our meals at restaurants so I was a little hesitant to get on the scale this morning. But I did walk on the beach and around town a bit. So for the good news...I lost a pound!
I'll be spending the day catching up on laundry, visiting, etc. I'll try to fit in some bike riding or walking later in the day.

Well, the pound I lost on vacation is back! I guess eating at home is worse for me than eating out. It could be the evening snack of nuts/cheese.
Memorial Day here is gloomy, and it's supposed to rain later this afternoon. I've been riding my bike everyday now for a while, but today doesn't look promising. I've been eating on plan but it doesn't seem to matter in the weight loss department. But I've been feeling fine.
We're going to DD's house for a BBQ later and I'm helping her wallpaper DGS's bedroom and get the other bedroom ready for new baby girl due in July. She's been really busy with the new house, working full time, and preparing for the little one.
I'm bring the burgers, hot dogs, and my "faux" potato salad, so I know I'll be O.K. in the food department. It's just a shame that the weather isn't cooperating because she has a beautiful inground pool in her back yard. Oh well...

I got all my Friday exercise running around work like a nut because they were short handed. I had to hang up all the signs and price labels for the new sale which starts on Fridays. Then I went over to DD's house to hang wallpaper for 3 hours. I finally got done!
Today I'm cleaning and shopping for her baby shower which we're having tomorrow. She should be really surprised. Just in time for the occasion, master bath's toilet is leaking into the kitchen ceiling. DH checked but had to call the plumber who can't come until Monday. Oh, well. There's always something to keep things from being easy.
Rainy day today, so little chance for a bike ride. I will try to squeeze one in if it clears up for a while. I'm planning some low carb recipes to go along with the traditional shower fare. Stuffed mushrooms and artichoke parmesan dip (I 'll be using celery to dip!)

Nancy, you definitely got your exercise!! WOW! I think you deserve a rest day after all the work you did yesterday!
Best wishes for a wonderful baby shower tomorrow! I'm sure everything will turn out nice and your DD will have a great shower.

I can't believe it's been so long since I journaled. The baby shower was great...she got so many beautiful gifts. About 30 attended. The we had DD's birthday, DS's birthday, Father's Day with loads of company...so busy...so much to do. I'm spending all my days off at DD's helping to get everything ready for new DGranddaughter. Only 12 more days until the due date!
I just had my doctor checkup last evening...it was a 3-month followup. My bloodsugar was a lot better, my BP was a lot lower, he was happy I was exercising...still waiting for the cholesterol bloodwork to get back. I still didn't lose weight. He said the only way to pep up my sluggish metabolism was MORE exercise. I bike ride every evening after dinner (about 2 miles) and I know I could be doing more, but after working all day, taking care of the house, etc. there seems so little time. And I feel tired out after doing what I already do.
I'm still keeping my carbs to about 25 a day. I have no desire for white flour or most items with sugar. I generally feel good, and the doctor was very pleased with the improvement. The only thing different I did since my last checkup 3 months ago was the bike riding. Back then the weather just wasn't cooperating.

Hooray for me! I finally got back my 25 pound clippie. Those extra 2 pounds were hanging around forever.
I'm still riding my bike about 1 1/2 to 2 miles per day, weather permitting. I think that is helping.
Still waiting for the birth of my new DGranddaughter. The due date is only 8 days away. Her bedroom is finally ready. It's so cute with pink walls, and a ballerina bear theme...borders, comforter, mobile, curtains, etc. A real feminine theme. The doctor better have been correct! DH assembled the crib and all the cute new baby outfits are washed and waiting.
Our vacation in Ocean City, N.J. is coming up in a coming up soon (July 12). Hopefully, the baby won't be late. We plan to visit with her a bit and take DGrandson (11) to the shore with us for a few days.
I'm still low carbing and not cheating. My only sweet treat is low carb ice cream and a squirt of whipped cream when I feel the need.
I wish the pounds would come off more quickly, but I'll have to take what I can get. This is a life journey for me, not a quick fix.

I've been on pins and needles waiting for the new DGranddaughter to arrive (DD's in PA), and now DDIL in southern Maryland is in the hospital recovering from a pulmonary embolism. She's only 32 and came pretty close to it being a fatality.
A few months back, she fell on the escalator at Kohl's and cut her leg near the knee on the edge of the escalator. It bled a lot and required stitches. It got worse and she had to rest it and stop working for a while and take antibiotics. Later on she needed surgery on it because it got worse. On Friday and Saturday, she began having pain in her upper arm and shoulder and had trouble breathing. My DS insisted she go the the ER and they did a lot of testing. The MRI showed the blood clot in her lung. It is very serious, and many people die of this before they are even diagnosed. Thank goodness the hospital found the cause and treated it. She'll have to take blood thinners for about 6 months.
I talked to her this afternoon, and she is feeling better and hoping to come home from the hospital tomorrow. So far the stress hasn't caused any excess eating. But maybe a glass of wine this evening won't be a bad idea.

Just an update...DDIL still in hospital trying to get blood numbers into a certain range. She's feeling better and hoping to come home this afternoon.
DD still not ready to give birth...she's hoping for this weekend. Friday would be nice but it's not up to us, is it?
I got cholesterol numbers back from doctor. Best I ever had...193. That's the lowest I ever had. It's usually in the high 220's even on meds.
I ate a can of Reddi-Wip last evening...I needed to satisfy an urge for sugar. What a poor choice! But it sure tasted great. I'll try to make a wiser choice next time.

Well, all that extra pixie dust must have done the trick!
I have a beautiful, new DGranddaughter born at 3:28 P.M. today. Her name is Megan Elizabeth and she weighed 7 lbs 11 oz, exactly the same as her brother Timmy did 11 years ago. All went well despite a rather long labor.
DDIL came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon and is feeling much better. She, DS, and the 3 Maryland grandchildren will be arriving for a visit next Wednesday to visit the new little one, and then we're (DH and the Maryland bunch) heading to the shore for a much needed vacation. My sister has a home on the beach in Ocean City, N.J. and graciously opens her home to all of us whenever we'd like to come.
I went to work for 2 hours this morning early, got the call, raced to the hospital to sit in the waiting room with DGrandson, and was soon joined by DH and other MomMom. It was about 5 hours later that Megan was born. We all had lunch in the cafeteria, but I was good and had a bunless cheeseburger and a glass of water. I just had dinner...turkey and cheese on a low carb tortilla wrap (2).

Sunday, July 4
I'm still eating on plan, exercising every day, and drinking lots of water. Weight is still the same.
I'm going to visit my newest granddaughter, Megan, this afternoon. She just came home from the hospital with DD and her family. She is so beautiful; lots of dark hair and a beautiful complexion.
After all the good news, I have to come back to earth and deal with real life. Bathroom pipe broke and dripped into kitchen ceiling a few weeks ago. Plumber finally replaced the pipe (So expensive...I should have been a plumber). Now I have holes in the ceiling and at the top of one of the walls. I have to find a drywall guy. Also, the wallpaper has to be replaced and the ceiling painted when all is repaired. I started the mega job of taking down the old wallpaper. What a thankless job! It's taking forever and the underneath walls look terrible because the walls were not sized before the paper was put up. I plan to paper myself to save money. The whole kitchen is a mess and the job seems too big to tackle and I'm getting overwhelmed. But I know I can do it...one step at a time, just like Doreen is doing. I work on it a little every day, and I spent about 4 hours on it today.

I hope you're enjoying your time at the shore - sounds heavenly to me!!
I wanted to let you know that there's a WISHer on the main WISH board who posted a thread about being newly diagnosed with Graves disease. She could use some encouragement and I thought of you immediately. Her name is Kathleena (that's her DIS name and I assume her real name) and the thread is titled "Feeling Bad, need a Pick Me Up". If you get a chance to contact her when you get back, I know she'd appreciate it.
Best wishes for your kitchen remodeling! I know it's a pain now, but just think how beautiful it will be when you finish! Baby steps, Nancy, baby steps!! ::yes::

DS and family from southern Maryland arrived Wednesday evening for a visit. We are all heading to Ocean City, N.J. for a vacation at the shore on Monday A.M. I visited DD and baby Megan today. It's amazing how quickly babies change. She is so cute but slept most of the day.
DH and I have the evening to ourselves. The guests are visiting DD. I just might be able to squeeze in a bike ride. Last week I crashed my bike...not paying attention and I hit a cement curb. I fell into a sticker bush, hurt my hand and leg, and the chain came off my bike. Luckily DH fixed it. I did ride again the next day and had no problem. I know after my treadmill accident I hated to get back on (and still do after 2 years).
It's been hard getting all my water in. I plan to stay low carb during vacation and do a lot of walking on the beach and playing with the grandchildren. Hopefully, I won't gain any weight. I'm still waiting for the day I can say I lost a couple of pounds. I keep seeing ONEDERland within reach but hard to attain.

Vacation at the shore was wonderful! I got a nice tan and had time to relax with family. I veered off my eating plan a little and had a glass or two of wine every evening. So...I wasn't too surprised to see that I gained two pounds when I got back. However, I lost them already by returning to a normal routine.
Before low carbing, I gained about 6 pounds per year for the last 12 years. So even though I am not losing right now, I figure at least I'm not gaining like I usually do with my poor metabolism. That's a good thing for me.
nancyj_pa
07-31-2004, 07:51 PM
Well, the same 2 pounds keep coming and going. I think most of the problem is the after 10 PM snacking...cheese, macadamias, or low carb ice cream.
My kitchen wallpaper is finally all scraped off. DSIL is painting the ceiling for me on Monday. He's 6'4" and can reach without climbing. I can't seem to make up my mind on the new wallpaper. The walls are in really poor shape so I can't paint. Does anyone know of a good wallpaper store in the Philly suburbs that carries paper you can take with you? I need a heavy vinyl paper. Both Home Depot and Lowe's have limited selections unless I order from the catalog. It's too hard to see if it's the right texture this way.
My new boss is a doll. What a difference going to work each day happy, and not wondering who he's going to "get" today. I'll be going on vacation to the shore again in two weeks. DD and the new baby will be there for a couple of days too.
I missed out on my bike ride this evening. I went to dinner with DDIL and DD, and 2 Dgrandchildren. The guys were out at a golf tournament. I had ceasar salad with scallops...it was much too large so I have lunch for tomorrow.

Wow! What a busy last week I've had. I managed to stay on plan pretty much, but I figured out the low carb ice cream and whipped cream had to go! They're much too tasty and I tend to overeat them even though they don't have many carbs. So I'm back to my nuts and cheese. I didn't get weighed for over a week, and when I did the other day I gained a couple of pounds.
DH bought a new used car, sold his old one, both privately, and we had a lot of running around to do...meeting private parties, going to mechanics, auto tag places, etc. I managed to get the kitchen paper started yesterday...it's almost halfway done and it does look pretty good. But, my bones were all aching last evening after a day of climbing up and down the ladder, bending, etc. I'll be back at it again today.
I didn't get a chance to bike ride last week, and I'm going to try to get a ride in today. The weather looks beautiful. We have dinner plans this evening, so I'll try to get out soon before the wallpapering begins.

Hi Nancy:wave2:
Sounds like a busy summer! I agree with you about the lc ic, I truly think this holds back any weight loss:( I'm back to original atkins, just the basics and I'm trying to stick to chick & fish.
Wallpapering yourself? how brave you are:)
How is that little baby doing?

Hi MeMe,
You're right about that ice cream, I think. The new baby is doing great. She is on her first trip to visit her cousins in southern Maryland and will be coming home this evening. She's still not sleeping very well at night, though. Next week she'll be in Ocean City with us for a couple of days.
I can't believe I just reached my first anniversary with WISH. It doesn't seem like a year already that I've been low carbing. This lifestyle suits me; I don't miss the junk. It would just be better if the weight came off. At least I feel better and am leading a healthier life.
Well, I papered a bit more this evening. DH was out golfing with his buddies and they're heaving steak sandwiches out somewhere. Now I'm going for a bike ride before it gets dark.

Thanks for the anniversary wishes, Doreen. I see your low carb anniversary is this month as well. It doesn't seem that long since we all started.
The wallpaper is 90% finished and looking good. I ran out and just picked up the last roll (for in back of the refrigerator). I'll try to get it done by this weekend.
The weather outlook seems O.K. so far for Ocean City next week. This Saturday is our family dinner and family photo. It will be an informal one at the mall. We're all wearing black and white. The two DS's and their wivers, DD and her husband, and all 5 grandchildren will be in the photo with DH and me. I hope it turns out O.K. The dinner and photo are for DH's 65th birthday which is coming up on the 25th.
Tonight DH's friends from Myrtle Beach who have been staying with us are taking us out to dinner (after golf, of course). They are leaving tomorrow. Then the new troops arrive on Saturday until Monday A.M. when we all head to the shore. Hectic but fun!
I will stay on plan at the shore except for my wine. It is low carb, (and I usually don't drink unless I'm out to dinner) but relaxing at the shore isn't the same without a cool drink

We got back from the shore on Sunday after a very relaxing week. I managed to get a couple of walks and bike rides, and walked the boardwalk once. I made my biannual donation to the casinos as well.
As for the good news...I managed to lose two pounds. I ate on plan, had wine or cocktails almost every day, but probably didn't have as many low carb snacks in the evening since dinner was much later than at home.
I think being off from work made the difference. I was able to get out and walk or bike when I wanted, and play with the grandchildren. When I'm working, I feel rushed and don't enjoy exercising in the evenings since I'm tired from working all day. I travel an hour each way and have to leave early in the A.M.
The weather was pretty nice and I have a great tan. I don't burn and tan quickly, and the bit of rain we had didn't take away from my beach time. I have vacation again labor day week and plan to spend a few days visiting DS and his family at their new home in Maryland.

I've been staying on plan and biking most days. I feel great and my weight is steady. It'd be nice if I lost some...oh well. I'm not going to let it rule my life. I know I'm eating well, exercising, and enjoying life.
On Sunday PM we're leaving to visit DS and his family in Maryland and staying for a few days. Can't wait to see his new home all finished and furnished. Best of all is seeing the grandchildren.
I feel that my journal is so boring, that's why I don't stop by more often. Not much changes...a pound lost here, and a pound gained there. I am very happy that my life is so uneventful, I guess, when I read about all the stress and anxiety that a lot of my fellow WISHers experience.
nancyj_pa
09-21-2004, 05:00 PM
It's hard to believe it's been 3 weeks since I've journaled. I have been lurking, though. I've been really busy lately...visiting in Maryland, new DGD's christening, fall cleaning, and house hunting. Would you believe I've been looking at some "over 55" homes in our area? I found one I like, and it was so crowded opening day that I think they may have sold out already.
Anyway, I lost 2 more pounds finally. I'm VERY close to ONEDERland. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't come back like they usually do. People I haven't seen in a while say I look a lot thinner. I guess it's finally noticeable. Even DH made a nice comment.
It's getting harder and harder for lazy me to exercise now that it's getting darker earlier. By the time I get home from work and think about dinner and read the mail, the sun is already starting to set. And I detest indoor exercise although the new home development will have a beautiful clubhouse with a really nice exercise room and indoor pool.

10-04-2004, 05:24 PM
I've kept off the weight I lost, so I'm only 2 pounds from ONDERland. I'm not rushing it, but I'd love to do this by Thanksgiving. To some this may hardly seem worth it, but to me it is a big achievement because of my hypothyroidism.
We did get the new house we wanted. We go to sign the agreement of sale on October 15. It won't be built until next August or September. It''s been so much fun looking at the samples and planning how to decorate. It is quite spacious but all on one floor except for a gigantic loft area which I plan to use for the Dgrandkids when they stay over. There's a clubhouse with indoor and outdoor pools, exercise room (I can sell my treadmill!!), game rooms, walking trails, etc. It should be so nice and no grass to cut or sidewalks to shovel.
DH has been away for 5 days on a golf trip to Myrtle Beach and will be home in a couple of hours. I did get some exercise in while he was away. I also babysat new DGranddaughter on Friday...she is so sweet. I was out to dinner twice but ate lightly...mostly appetizers, wraps, etc.
I actually feel so much better now than I did a year ago before losing the 27 pounds. After gaining 6 or 7 pounds a year for the 10 years I've been on thyroid medicine, it feels wonderful having maintained the loss and not gaining any back. My doctor says the only way to increase my sluggish metabolism is more exercise. Easier said than done for me...after all, I'm a grannie who'll soon be 58.

10-12-2004, 07:11 AM
Well, I had another birthday Sunday. DS, DD, spounses and grands came over for a visit. We went to see the samples of the new house that DH and I bought. It won't be ready for about 10 months or so, but it's really exciting. It's an over 55 community...so a lot less work for DH and a lot less stair climbing for me.
I'm still holding at my present weight. I did a charity walk Sunday (Memory Walk for Alzheimer's), and walked over 3 miles. I'm feeling it still but it was great and the weather was beautiful.
I noticed my exercise is slipping due to it getting darker earlier and running around with things to do for the new house. We sign the papers on Friday. I'll have to be more firm on my days off during the daylight to make exercise a priority.

Hi MeMe,
Thanks for posting. My new development is called the Villas of Flowers Mill at Five Ponds. They are going to be built across from Five Ponds golf course on Street Road between York and Easton (a little past the Kohl's shopping center). The samples are in Newtown right past ShadyBrook Farms. They are the same exact homes that are there.
The first day the samples were open (about a month ago) they sold out the first four sections and had a waiting list. People slept overnight to get the best lots. They are quads (4 homes grouped together in a square shape rather than a row). Each has a 2 car garage, a master suite with bath, a guest bedroom with another bath, a kitchen & breakfast room, a living room/dining room, a family room, and a laundry room on the first floor. Then there's a huge loft that's finished.
These homes are pretty big and are for "active" adults. There's a club house with indoor and outdoor pool, walking trail around a pond, a gym, game rooms, etc. It sounds really nice.
Ours won't be ready until the end of summer, I think. We go to put down our deposit on Friday and will get more info then. Your parents would love it if they can get around real well and only need help with the outside chores. There's no health facility connected with this at all. I like it because it's on one floor.
The samples are open every day from 12 to 6.
Talk to you soon, Nancy

We put the deposit down on the new house today and signed all the papers. Everything went fine, and we might be able to move in in early summer. What a lot of work ahead with getting a realtor, getting the house in order, and keeping it that way with a lovable but messy DH.
We celebrated with dinner at a local restaurant. I had the low carb turkey sandwich (on low carb bread) with avocado. Yum!! Also, we each had a glass of wine. When we got home, I fell asleep on the couch for a half hour. It's great being able to take a nap. I feel good about my food choices, but the rainy weather today discouraged exercise. It doesn't take much of an excuse for me to skip it, unfortunately.
I also had blood work done at the doctor's this morning. He was doing a follow up on my blood sugar. Last test was good; I hope this one comes back OK as well.
My menu today was:
B cottage cheese w/blueberries
L chicken salad (home made)
D low carb turkey sandwich w/avodcado salad
Also, lots of water and a few cups of coffee w/half and half
S I bought low carb Breyers ice cream today, so I plan to indulge

I had blood work done last week and the office called to tell me to make an appointment with the doctor. It was a blood sugar test that didn't come out as well as I hoped. It's hard to believe I have trouble in that area since I don't eat sugar or sweets and very little carbs. I guess I'll find out more when I go in on Tuesday. Being overweight causes many problems. Thank goodness my cholesterol is O.K. and my blood pressure is well within normal.
On a brighter note, I am going to visit DD today and go to DGS's soccer game. Also, I'll spend some time with newest DGD Megan. She is a little over 3 months old now and starting to cry with strangers. I want to make sure I spend as much time with her as possible so she recognizes me. It's sometimes very difficult with DD working full time and running on weekends with DGS's sports activities.
I have been eating on plan. Still the same old boring food most of the time. My boss is now low carbing and has lost 10 pounds in the last few weeks.
I managed to ride my bike yesterday although it was pretty cold at 4:30 PM. Today I'll try again. At least it's sunny.

Well, no bike ride yesterday but this morning DH and I walked a couple of miles in the park. It was so beautiful with the leaves changing colors...oranges, reds, golds.
I spend yesterday with DGrandkids and had fun. I did walk some to and from the soccer field, but not what you'd probably call exercise.
I haven't lost any more weight despite not cheating. I'll see what the doctor says Tuesday.

I got in a nice, long walk on Saturday while the weather was nice. Last evening I had my doctor appt. My blood sugar (from the blood test I had a couple of weeks ago) is borderline diabetic again. It seems to fluctuate quite a bit. The nurse tested my urine and did a finger prick while I was in the office and my sugar count was low. Go figure!
I asked the doctor if my thyroid problems could be affecting the blood sugar. He said it was a possibility. Since I eat no sugar and am low carbing, the only thing left to do is more exercise. Hard to do now with the season change. It gets dark right after I get home from work. The only exercise I really enjoy is outdoors.
My blood pressure was really good. I have to go back in three months. The doctor would like me to lose 10 pounds by then. It's not like I haven't been trying. It's just that this body doesn't cooperate.

It's been a while since I posted. Life's been so hectic with the holidays upon us. I picked up a few pounds (4) over the Thanksgiving holiday but finally lost 2 of it. I'll try for 2 more before Christmas. I seem to do well on the holiday itself, but the surrounding days of family/restaurants, etc. present a problem although I do stick with the low carb items.
I've finally finished the decorating, shopping, and wrapping. The house needs a good cleaning now. After Christmas, I'll be getting ready to put the house up for sale in early spring. I'm not looking forward to that! It's been over 25 years since I've moved.
I find I haven't been drinking as much water since the cool weather started. That will be one of my current goals. Also, low carb ice cream tastes so good but really isn't a good evening snack for me. I'll try to cut back.

Well, spring is here and I finally am coming out of hibernation. The weather is still damp and rainy, sometimes cold. The scale has not been my friend over the last few months. I am still low carbing, but not to the extent that I did before. That and total lack of exercise led to my demise. I have gained about 10 pounds since Christmas. I have to change my 25 pound clippie now.
DH's brother died suddenly last Friday (heart attack). He was only 67. We will be traveling to Ohio for the services on Wednesday...about an 8 hour drive each way.
DH found out he has diabetes and is on meds and testing. I have my blood work scheduled for early Wednesday morning before we leave on our trip. I hope I'm not headed down the same road. I visited the doctor this afternoon because the top of my left arm has been hurting for a couple of months. I thought I must have bumped it or something, but it's getting worse. He told me I have a rotator cuff problem and need an Xray tomorrow to see the extent of it. My DBIL just had surgery for this same problem and will be in a cast for a while. He has to sleep in a recliner because the cast sticks out straight from the shoulder.
Daylight savings time begins here the first Sunday in April. This extra hour of daylight will give me time to walk again and hopefully begin riding my bike. Hopefully, the weather cooperates. I will begin my journey again. Why does it take so much longer to take off the pounds than it does to put them on? It's not fair!!

Today I'm heading to the hospital to pick up DH who had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor (brain). Everything went well, but SO MUCH STRESS! He found out he had it when he had a CAT scan for an auto accident March 1 in which he bumped his head. Good thing!! The prognosis is good since they found it before it did too much damage. It caused a disease called acromegaly, excessive growth hormone.
My younger sister (46) has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, cancer of the blood plasma. She will begin chemo next week. After a few months, she will have a bone marrow transplant.
This year has really been rough so far. I haven't been able to exercise much and my mind really isn't on it. I hope to do better soon. I'm still low carbing because that is the way I prefer to eat now, but without the exercise the scale doesn't move for me.
