We'll be there! We (Myself 40, DH 39, DD 8 ) are traveling with 3 other families, so we will be quite the bunch! We are flying into MCO Wednesday before and spending three days at the World, also doing the MVMCP Thursday night. As you can see from my countdown, it will be my 40th bday and my dh and my 10th anniversary.
Oh yeah - anyone doing the dolphin swim in Cozumel that Wednesday? Just spoke to Barry at Shoretrips and we are booked on the 12:00 royal swim. Can't Wait!!!

Are the girls going into the Kids Club? Maybe my dd and your girls can get to know each other before the trip and then meet there? We did that with another DISer on our 1st cruise and it worked out great (since my dd is our only child and we didn't bring a friend for her) made the transition at club easier.
Just an idea.

I’m new to this discussion board thing but I’m confused. Why two threads on the same subject. I connected with a few of you on http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=459016&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 already. Anyway- I’ve never done the Kayaks at Castaway Cay or anywhere else before. They didn’t have them at Casaway when we were then in Nov. 2000.
We did a 2 person message on our first cruise (something new for me) and it was GREAT. We did it on the boat but I here that the Cabana Messages on the island are out of this world. Last visit to Casaway we rode bikes, snorkeled, but the best part was relaxing on the beach. We had done so much on all our other ports that we were ready for that. The water is clear and warm. They serve drinks and lunch at beachside. It was like Fantasy Island. We spent most of the day at the adult beach, but the family beach looked just as beautiful. I also think they have a teen only beach (has to be a hit with the teens). While I was leaving the island at the end of the day I asked one of the crew members how they could always be so pleasant. Her reply was that it’s easy when you deal with people on vacation, but I don’t think she gives herself enough credit.
Of all the great things on this cruise, the food, entertainment, sites, new friends met, I think the best thing is the service. We really felt like we were the 2 most important people on board.
Picked up our documents yesterday, getting real excited.

We will all meet right before the sailaway party on Deck 10. All we need to finalize is if we are going to wear a certain color or some other identifity thing. I will email everyone tomorrow to make sure we are all set.

This is copied from www.disneycruise.com :
Can coolers and/or food items be brought onboard?
Coolers are not permitted except for those needed for medications, baby food, or items related to dietary constraints. Items must be pre-packaged, un-opened, and do NOT require any food prep from the kitchen. Coolers filled with personal items (e.g. soda, chips, candy, etc.) may NOT be brought onboard. Homemade items or pre-cooked items purchased on the way to the ship will not be allowed to be brought aboard. Also, open bags or containers of snack items should not be brought aboard ship. All items will need to be stored in the stateroom. The ship's storage and/or refrigeration is not available to use.

Mitcam,
I read on a thread somewhere that you may bring a colapsable (?) cooler in your luggage. You may not bring a cooler aready filled. I'm putting one in my luggage, so that I may fill it up with water etc.... when we go on shore to the beaches. If it gets confiscated, oh well, it only costed me 6 bucks!!! (I'm a rebel! :smooth: )

I am going to post a question about coolers today. I know I read somewhere that coolers were taken onboard by someone and I don't remember them having a problem.
I am reconsidering unfilled cooler.
My DH and I actually drink alot of Protein drinks, we are considering taking some with us! I don't think they would take our cooler since it is filled with something they cannot offer onboard. What do you think!
audraanddana
11-25-2003, 03:22 PM
I am taking a collapsable cooler for lunch in Key West and Grand Cayman. I read on another post that a lot of people order sandwiches from room service the night before, store them in the stateroom fridge (bring ziplocs) then bring them for lunch the next day on the island. Sounds like a great idea and only costs a tip to the room service.
Is Palo worth it if I don't eat Seafood? I've seen the menu and most of it is seafood. The fee is $5.00 per person. I've read many different views as to what to tip them. Some say the $5.00 is a tip and others say to tip $20-40.00 in addition to the fee. Any input?
ELIJAH'S GRANDPA
11-25-2003, 04:24 PM
I like the cooler idea, I have one of those small lunch box ones.
Polo is wonderful! (I shouldn't say that, it will make reservations tougher.) I had the lamb and it was great. I think the $5 is for a tip and you can always give more, but we were there 3 years ago and my memory may fool me.
John
LG123
11-25-2003, 04:44 PM
Pippy - Did you receive the email?
Coolers - I have read a lot of cooler posts and I am under the impression that you can carry on a soft sided cooler as long as there is no ice in it and it can fit on through the x-ray.
Palo tipping - There was a thread a while back that was all about tipping at Palo. Some said they gave an additional $10 on top of the $5 they charge. The amounts varied but a couple of people posted that they tipped something like $50 to $100!! I didn't post on that thread but I think that is a little outragous. They people were saying that the felt it was a good amount since the dinner would cost them that much if they had to pay for it. Don't these people realize that they have paid for it? I figure everything I get on the ship is paid for in one way or another whether it be on my KTTW card or in the price of the cruise. Don't think anything is free! Am I the only one that thinks this way?
ELIJAH'S GRANDPA
11-25-2003, 05:45 PM
No Lori, I agree, you've payed for it.
The servers on board is so good (they are often the best that had worked at DisneyWorld) and the servers at Polo are selected because they are the best of the best, so it is easy to want to tip more, but I don't think anyone should feel they need to.
When you use that little plastic card it doesn't feel like your spending money.

I spoke to Debbie from DCL today when she called to set up our dining rotation and Palo Reservations and she gave us a couple of suggestions which I'll pass on and hope they are helpful. First she said this sailing is VERY full. She recommended we get to the port as early as possible. She said the spa usually will start taking resevations at 1 pm, but may open the doors sooner if they see a line starting to form. Also, she advised we bring sweaters or sweatshirts along with sweat pants for our daughter and for ourselves to wear during the evenings on the top decks. She said she was on the Magic's Western sailing a couple of weeks ago and it was very breezy and chilly, if not cold, at night.
Hope this is useful and we'll see you all in -could it be?-nine days.

Thanks for the great info.
I know we were able to asign early or late dining, but are you able to choose which rotation? We have 2nd dining, which I guess it doesn't matter on this cruise because either dinner or the show equal to the same time. We figured if our daughter (4) is tired, we think she'd rather skip dinner than the show. And is the evening quiet time in the Oceanear club calm enough for the kids to sleep? I hope so. It will be interesting to carry her at 11pm-midnight back to the stateroom. She'll probably wake up and stay awake until 3am then cause trouble the next morning! Oh well.

I think Casey8 has concierge service so she can do everything in advance. You are assingned you dining rotation but can request a different one once aboard I think. Sounds like a lot of us have the second seating.
What does everyone have planned for excursions? DH and DD6 are doing the Grand Caymen tour. SIL & fiance are doing the Tulum Ruin thing in Cozumel and fiance is doing the bottom fishing in CC. The 4 of us are doing the banana boat ride at CC. Hope the water isn't to cold.

Hi!
In Key West we are going to do the Trolley Tour (Buying our own tickets ahead of time...not the DCL one). This way, we can stop wherever we'd like and for how long. We may try to do the aquarium, Shipwreck Museum, etc.
In Grand Cayman we are doing the early Atlantis Submarine, and then might try to hit the beach.
We are doing the Tulum trip from Cozumel.
LG123
11-25-2003, 10:55 PM

Apparently we are! I didn't know about it until I got the call form DCL this morning. When I called my husband he admitted he added it to our package without telling me as a surprise!!
I don't think we are doing anything in Key West formal-I'd like to see Mel Fischer's museum and then shop. Probably the Atlantis Sub in Grand Cayman and then the ruins on the island in Cozumel-not the Tulum ruins the others (I can' t remember their name right now!).
Have you decided on a specific place to meet for the Sail Away party and how we will all recognize each other??

How romantic!!! Aren't husbands so nice (sometimes!). Are you celebrating an anniversay? We are going to celebrate our anniversay (11/29) onboard. Do you get to make your Palo ressies ahead of time? I am getting worried about the ressies since the ship is going to be full.
I am working on the meet right now. Check the webpage in about 10 minutes plus I was going to email everyone this evening. Don't have to work tomorrow!!! I am trying to find a picture of Deck 10 so everyone can know exactly where. As far as recognizing, aside from a certain color I think we will just have to be really specific about the meeting place. I was checking on a website about the availability of our cruise date, and there wasn't much left. When and where can you sign up for palo? My passporter says there is a certain time frame, not immediately as you board, and a thread on Cruise Critic says to hit the Rockin' D Bar for ressies.
True or False.

Casey8- Thank you and thank your husband for the idea of the Romantic Escape at Sea. After reading your post I called Disney about it. Because I booked through an agent I had to go back through her. So, a quick trip to the agent, she called and added it on, then handed me the phone and I spoke to Debbie (I told her she was on the web in your post). She suggested the APLAPLA rotation because it puts us in Lumiere’s on formal and semi-formal nights. She booked our Polo dinner, Polo Brunch, and Polo tea. Brunch and tea are not part of the package but I wanted them. All this means that we won’t have to line up at Polo, only the Spa. But for a couple’s message I can do that. Both she and my local agent were so much help.
Lori- I didn't get the last email update but the meet looks easy to find from your website. Great job on the site. Congrates on the aniversary, our 28th was in August.
We're doing the little train at Key West, the Stingray City and Island tour, the Tulum ruins, and the Kayaks at Castaway Cay.
One question, when will we rest?

Don't tell DH, he will not be happy shopping for myself this close to Christmas
Can't wait to see you all, some of our group left today at 4AM!

I always bring to many shoes - I was able to narrow it to 6 pairs but that includes my sneakers which technically aren't shoes!!!!!
Formal night - I am bringing "2" outfits, how can I know this far in advance what I would want to wear!
Shorts - Biggest problem - I am not happy with what I own so I am only bringing 5 pairs for 10 days and just mixing up the shirts! I have about 20 shirts! I am going to get stuck doing laundry, I know it!!!!
Bathing suits - 4 +3 coverups
Dinner attire - 5 outfits (mix and match of course so that makes 10)
Socks/personals etc... I don't think 1 bag is enough for me so I am taking "2" for myself and the 3 boys in the family get "1"! Afterall, I am the mother and I might add the only PRINCESS in our house princess:
I have put so much time into getting everyone ready that now I am afraid I am missing something so tomorrow I am unpacking everyone and going to inventory what I have  In case you had any doubt, I am "TYPE A" - List maker etc....
See you all in 6 days :wave2:

I'm so glad I'm not the only one so obsessed about packing. I've been planning our packing for over 3 weeks. I do all the packing for myself DD and DH. We bought another set of luggage last night. Our flight leaves 8:40am Tuesday- Tomorrow!!!! I have the whole day to myself to finish packing and repacking and to clean the house. Does anyone else hate coming home to a messy house on top of unpacking and realizing you are back to the reality of life-work,errands, cooking, etc? Alright, it's 11:09am, I better get back to my packing!

I just read online that Disney Cruise line's new show The Golden Mickeys will be premiering on the Disney Magic Dec. 6th!!! That's our cruise! I guess it started recently on the Wonder, but this will be the first for the Magic! I hope they've rehearsed well!
HOW EXCITING!

I'm sure you all want to know more:
The Golden Mickeys exercises the full range of technology housed within The Walt Disney Theatre, making it the most technologically advanced stage show at sea. Vibrant animated backdrops whisk guests from high above Notre Dame Cathedral in one scene to inside a young boy's toy-filled bedroom in another, and dramatic sets create a three-dimensional illusion as films race across stage-size screens and lighting and surround sound casually envelop the audience.
Although based on timeless classics, The Golden Mickeys does not retell these big-screen stories. Instead, it uses the comedy, romance, heroes, villains and friendship from these popular films to create a new plot -- a distinguished Hollywood awards show in which memorable silver-screen Disney moments are recognized.
As if attending a distinguished Hollywood awards show, guests entering the 977-seat Walt Disney Theatre are treated as celebrities and given red carpet treatment lined with "paparazzi."
A glamorous and glitzy opening number leads way to the first of three celebrity guest appearances -- including ones by Roy E. Disney (nephew of Walt Disney) and Angela Lansbury (voice of Mrs. Potts, Beauty And The Beast -- who appear via "ship-to-shore transmission."
The Golden Mickeys will debut aboard the Disney Magic December 6 and is currently playing aboard the Disney Wonder.

Oh Yes!!! I hate coming home to a messy house. I used the TV as a babysitter Sat. and Cleaned every room in the house. Did all the laundry and put up my Xmas decorations!!! Whew. Don't worry, DD watch nothing but Disney and I devoted ALL my time to her Sunday, so she wasn't completely ignored.:wave2:

I have to admit the housework is not anywhere on my TO DO list! I have completly fallen behind and after much discussion my DH and I decided to hire someone to come every other week to clean. So what better time to start than TODAY :smooth:
Our house is sparkling! :teeth:
Now I need to develop a plan to keep the boys in this house (3) (including DH) tidy til we leave!!!!! Just 2 days - do you think that anyone would mind if I locked them in their room for the next 36 hrs  I promise I will feed them - takeout of course can't mess the kitchen ;)
John, I can't believe you even had a minute to log onto the computer at work! I won't tell :smooth:

Bags packed, travelers checks gotten, house decorated (well, most of it, I didn't do the kitchen yet - dd wants to do that when we get back - says it won't make her so sad to be back home with some fun things left to do), tree up w/lights (ditto with the dd thing) and I'm off to get my manicure/pedicure. Tommorrow 7 AM we will be flying the friendly skies and having lunch at MGM. See you all there!!!

Yes, I am on the 12/6 cruise. I didn't even notice until you said something because I believe everyone else is leaving on vacation early. I checked my profile and I do have 12/6 in there, so I don't know why it says 7 days instead of 5. Any suggestions on what may be wrong?

Thanks Lori, one more thing for me to worry about:( I just checked Saturday's weather for our airport in RI
High:
38°F
Rain / Snow / Wind
Wind:
From the Northeast at 29 mph
Precip: 70 %
Max. Humidity: 54 %
UV Index: 1 Minimal
But I've lived in New England all my life and I know it's true what Mark Twain said, "If you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute"
Note to self-have faith!
Glad I booked my flight through Disney.
Drive safely, see you in the sun.

EG - I have come to the conclusion that there are many "nurse things"! I think my packing and repacking for instance has something to do with my 3 checks for my meds. Although, I seem to have packed 4 suitcases into 3 doing the rolling method. I might be bringing way too much, but at least we don't have to wear scrubs for a whole week!!!
Happy packing to everyone!!!
