My DS starts school as soon as we get back from WDW. I was thinking about having his hair cut at the main st. barbershop. I was reading that they have a real barbershop quartet singing while you are having your hair cut.
Has anyone done this? Do you have to make an appt.? How much do they charge? Does the quartet really sing during your cut?
Of course I could have have this done at home before we leave, but I thought this might be fun.
Thanks for any answers you can give.

They don't take appointments. First come, first served. I think they open at 9AM. Not sure when they close. Usually two people in the shop. Kids have fun getting their hair cut. After the hair cut, the kiddo can get colored gel (my son has gotten orange and blue, so far) and pixie dust. About $12/cut, if I remember correctly. The barbershop quartet is not always there, but various groups and characters show up occasionally.

My DH (who is 32!) has his hair cut at the MK barber shop and has had BLUE hair gel and pixie dust (multi-colored sparkly confetti) which the lady (who was terrific by the way) did at my DD & DNephew's request. DH was a good sport about it too.
I think the charge for my DH was somewhere around $18, but that was the tip as well. I believe the children's ones are a bit cheaper. The previous poster was correct - they do not take appointments - it's first come first served. The time we saw the barbershop quartet, it was early afternoon, around 1:30 or so. At the early am haircuts, we don't tend to see them. They are great. I have seen them perform on the corners along main street also.

Our older DS had his 1st haircut here, and it was a great experience. The barbershop quartet was not there when he got his cut, though. The barber was a lady called Billie and she was so sweet and patient with him. They let us videotape the whole thing, and we took about a million pictures. They also gave him a certificate for 1st haircut and wrapped up a lock of his precious baby hair for me. It was really great!

My 15yr old son just had his haircut at the shop, complete with blue gel and pixie dust. The barber did a terrific job and it cost less($15.00-plus tip) than we pay at home! We haven't been lucky enough to have the quartet visit. This was the second time he's gotten a haircut at MK- it's alot of fun!

The haircuts at MK are awesome, but here's a word of advice.........GET THERE EARLY .
For the past few years, my husband has gotten his "vacation cut" at the MK barber shop, but we couldn't even get into the place last December. When we arrived, the line was already 10 people deep. I stood in line for 40 minutes and did not move one step. Finally, we gave up. It was really strange because we were there in the very beginning of December, so it wasn't like the park was crowded.
We will try again this year!

I'm going to get my son's (10) haircut for school there when we go for Labor day weekend.
I plan to be at the Barbershop when they open at 9am.
I had his haircut there in February when we were there. They do an awesome job. Its a lot of fun.
Hmmm.. Maybe I should stop recommending it. Keep the lines shorter. ;)
Here's a funny picture from the haircut!

My DH always gets his haircut there. We actually make a trip to Orlando, when he needs his hair cut (it's only about 1.5 hours for us, plus it's a great excuse). He's gotten red, blue and green gel in his hair, and they even use the gel to put a mickey head on the back of his head.
And, my DD got her first haircut there too. Maura is the best!! Emily didn't even cry at all. She got a certificate and Mickey ears with "1st haircut" on the back.
Men's haircuts are $15, children are $12 + tip.

My ds 3yo is currently in WDW with his father and his family. So I called tonight to check on my DS and found out that he got his hair cut today with Michael. He got the green gel and the confetti. Apparently he was in heaven afterward with his colored hair.
We had his first hair cut there in April of 2002 just before his 2nd birthday. It was well worth it!!

I recently had my hair cut there for my birthday. I am a 25 year old woman. Everyone loves my hair. Nothing fancy, but still cute. Anyway the secret I learned from the barber was to try and get your haircut during the parade since you can watch it go by from your seat at the barbershop and it's airconditioned.

SuprGro,
I've been wondering about getting my haircut there too. did you just get a trim, or did you get a whole new 'do'?
i've been telling the people at work that i'm gonna come back a brand new woman! i don't need curl, color, etc, just to get rid of this ponytail and have an actual style!
any info is greatly appreciated!

I would love to have my DD's first haircut here, but the problem is she is hair challenged. I was planning on doing this when we go in October, but I don't think she'll have enough hair on her head to be cut.
