Brief introduction: I've done Atkins before a couple of years ago and was successful and had made it half way to my goal. Unfortunately I began to have a serious health problem (not related to the diet) and had to have a hysterectomy. After that I began to gradually gain all the weight back. Recently I've been feeling very unhappy with myself. I've felt tired, my knees and ankles sometimes ache at the end of the day, just a general feeling of blah, not to mention that I don't like my appearance and how my clothes fit.
Here's where I'm at now:
Start date in Atkins induction: 8/11/03.
Weight: 224 lbs
Height: 5'3
Goal weight: 130-140 lbs
Other goals: To feel better, have more energy, look better. Icing on the cake would be if I were near goal by the time we go on our first trip to WDW August 13, 2004. Our upcoming vacation is not the reason I want to lose weight, it just would be nice to fit into those cute summer clothes I'm always looking at . The main reason is that like I said, I don't feel good at my current weight and I have a strong family history of diabetes.
8/11/03: First day on induction phase and feeling ok.
Breakfast-Didn't have time. I know, that's a no-no.
Lunch-Chicken tortillo soup without the tortilla our course, water.
Dinner-Roast beef, salad, water.
8/12/03: I was not a happy camper this day. I felt very grouchy and by now could tell that I was going through sugar withdrawal. Sugar cravings were really bad.
Breakfast-Didn't have time again. Bad, bad, bad.
Lunch-Chicken breast with a tomator based sauce and shedded melted cheese, salad, water.
Dinner: Left over roast beef, salad, water. Two sugar free Jello for dessert.
8/13/03: Ok, I felt like crap and I could feel my body was still going through sugar withdrawal.
Breakfast-I promise to have breakfast tomorrow!
Lunch-Two hamburger patties with shredded melted cheddar cheese, salad, a couple of tomator slices, Crystal Light.
Dinner-The last of the leftover roast beef, salad, Crystal Light.
Snack-I discovered the Atkins Morning Start bars, delicious! I called the Atkins Center to make sure it was ok, and they told me they don't necessarily have to limited to breakfast time. Yay!

Lisa,
Hi I love those breakfast bars. This morning I went to a professional development session (for teachers) at a pizza place. They had all of these pastries, donuts, and I didn't even care! I had my cup of coffee. I know caffeine is a no no, but I have to have it. An hour later I pulled my breakfast bar out of my pocketbook and ate it with another cup of coffee. For lunch I ate a salad, and I took the cheese and sausage off the pizza.
I am determined to do this this time!
I have the same weight goal as you.

It's good to know there's someone else out there on the same path. Do you have a journal on the Journals board? BTW, I had coffee too this morning, but it doesn't seem to affect me negatively. What's great is that I can put heavy cream in it, 0 carbs. I've always liked a little coffee in my cream!

About those breakfast bars...
My question is, how many carbs do they have? I was looking at the assortment of bars at Target (including Atkins) and they all seemed to have high carbs ("high" when you can only have 20 per day!).
I just wanted to say also that I've just started Atkins on 8/12 and I've never done it before, and I'm on about the same path, with my goal weight being 150 for now (I'm pretty muscular and don't think I'd look bad at all at that weight) so I'll be working towards goal right along with you guys! :)

The Morning Start bars from Atkins have a net carb amount of 2 grams. The lady at the health food store I bought them at explained the whole net carb thing to me but I was still somewhat skeptical. I called the Atkins Center and I was told the Morning start bars are indeed two net carbs and they're perfectly safe to eat on induction. She just recommended to limit them to one a day and they don't have to be just for breakfast. Those bars have been a lifesaver for me since I bought them. The first three days were excruciating and I wanted to have something sweet so badly. I'm on day five and I feel so much better than day one. Well, time to post my fourth day. Keep up the good work gals!:D

8/14/03: I felt much better by day four. Sugar withdrawal not as bad.
Breakfast-Two eggs and three strips of bacon; small cup of coffee. Delish!
Lunch-It was too hot to eat but I did anyway. Had roast turkey, salad and water.
Snack-I was taking bites of my Morning Start bar throughout the day.
Dinner-It was even hotter at home and there was no way I was going to cook the pork chops I had thawed out. Had two slices of cheese, two slices of sandwich turkey, sugar free Jello, Crystal Light.
I posted this on the morning of 8/15/03. My current weight is 221 pounds. I've lost three pounds!:Pinkbounc

8/15/03: I must have come down with the flu or something because I felt terrible this day, abdominal pain and running to the bathroom every time I ate something.
Breakfast-Morning Start bar, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-Carne asada, 1/2 avocado, lettuce and tomator w/ranch dressing, Crystal Light.
Dinner: Taco salad from Taco Bell, hold the beans, ice tea.
I weighed myself this morning 8/16/03. I'm down to 219 so I've lost five pounds! I haven't seen the scale pointer (I use a doctor's scale since I work at a medical facility) move to the left in over two years. :Pinkbounc

8/16/03: I still wasn't feeling good this day. I had definitely come down with the stomach flu because I had body aches to go along with the abdominal pain. Oh well, no excuse to eat what I shouldn't.
Breakfast-Two eggs, two strips of bacon, water.
Lunch-Didn't feel well, so didn't eat.
Dinner-Salisbury steak, 1/2 cup broccoli, Fruit20 (fruit flavored water 0 carbs).
Snack-Two slces of ham with cream cheese, mmm!
I tried a strawberry Atkins shake. Yuck! Maybe next time I'll try vanilla with some ice.
8/17/03: It's 11:24 p.m. so I might was well post what I ate today instead of doing it tomorrow. I feel a lot better today so I think I'm about over that bug I had.
Breakfast-Two eggs, two slices of bacon, Fruit20.
Snack-One slice of ham with cream cheese.
Lunch-Didn't eat.
Dinner-Two cups of salad since I didn't eat lunch, ranch dressing, a cup of soup with cabbage, squash and zucchini, ice tea.
On a side note: I wasn't at work today so I didn't weigh myself. I obsessively weigh in every morning at work on a doctor's scale. I usually work Mon.-Sat. Technically I could have gone to the office anyway to weigh myself since I only live 3 minutes away but I figured I should wait until Monday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I've lost about seven pounds. As of Sat. morning I had lost 5. Nighty-night.:o

Good morning! Hope you're feeling better and you're over the stomach bug. Have you tried any of the other Atkins products? I made some muffins with their mix and they were as heavy (and as flavorful--made with Splenda) as baseballs! I haven't been brave enough to try the baking mix since!:)
Just wanted to wish you well and to tell you that your success this week has motivated me to keep up with a low carb plan!

You know, I was just about to buy the Atkins bake mix as well but have been feeling skeptical. I pretty much stay away from substitute type products because to me, if they don't taste good, they're not worth eating and so I just do without. So far the only thing I like is the apple crunch Morning Start bar. I thought about trying the pancake mix next week, but we'll see.
Thank you so much for your kind words, you brought a big smile to my face. All the others on these boards have been a big motivation for me as well. I think there's a sense of comraderie. That's why I decided to journal here instead of on the Atkins website. Best wishes in your endeavors Lulu!:D

8/18/03: I felt pretty good today. I'm starting to actually feel the weight loss now. I put on a skirt that I haven't worn for a month and it doesn't fit loose, but it's definitely not as tight as it was. I didn't measure myself when I first started the diet. I went to Target last night get a tape measure but of course they didn't have any!
Breakfast-Morning Start bar, water.
Lunch-Chicken/beef with a spicy sauce over salad greens and sour cream, Crystal Light.
Dinner-One thick pork chop, 1/2 cup of salad, Crystal Light. My husband had vanilla ice cream tonight and it looked soooo good. Oh well!
Can't wait to begin my exercise program. I should be able to start next Monday morning. Now I get to go out and buy myself a couple of work out clothes.:teeth:

I'm glad you're doing so well! This is my 17th day on Protein Power (a lot like Atkins). I've lost 5 pounds after 2 weeks.
I started off a few pounds heavier than you and I'm 5'4". My goal is to reach about 150. This is going to take me quite a while since my metabolism is so slow even though I've been exercising.
The older you get, the slower the metabolism. Oh, well. I haven't cheated at all but I never ate all that much sugar to start with so I didn't have the cravings. I was a peanut butter addict.
There are a lot of good recipes for low carbs. Just look at the beginning of the WISH board. The "potato salad" (Aunt Helen's, I think) was wonderful!
Keep on posting. There's a lot of inspiration here.

I posted this link on the WISH Family Photos thread. I wasn't able to figure out how to get the image in my post. I was 224 pounds in this picture which is what I weighed last week when I started Atkins. BTW, I'm the one standing to the far left with the long brown hair wearing glasses and a black blouse with a gold lace trim. In a couple of months I'll post another photo for comparison.

Thanks for the info on the Advantage bars! I don't get it myself and when I see something with 19 carbs or something, right now, I run! LOL I have so much to learn. I think sometimes for me it would be easier to stay on induction...and just eat what the book allows...not too hard for me to figure out! I know that's not practical though!
I tried to see your picture, but the link didn't work for me...
Great job, by the way!!! I'm starting to feel MUCH better than I did last week...less grumpy and more energy...do you plan to stay on induction a little longer?

I'm seriously thinking about staying on induction a little longer but I haven't comletely made up my mind yet. My 14th day of induction will be on Sunday. I really miss milk and fruit, and I was looking forward to adding my 5 carbs but I'm afraid to alter the course that I'm on for fear of slowing my weight loss.

I hear ya! I'm afraid too! I've never eaten so many vegetables in my whole life, and I really didn't eat much fruit (I really didn't eat between meals, and there was usually some form of pasta, some startch and then maybe a token veggie with dinner)...but I'm amazed at how much I long to even eat fruit...I love that I know I'm really eating healthier though, despite the fat and even without fruit!

Karen, do what you feel comfortable with. From what I was reading in the book, if after induction you're able to determine that you are not metabolically resistant, then it's perfectly ok to add the 5 carbs. It suggests that if one doesn't have a lot of weight to lose or they miss certain foods tht much, then to go ahead and add the carbs but they must be from the approved list of course. I believe I read that the list includes a cup of whole milk, and for fruit, you can start with berries. I would love to have some strawberries right now, or an ice cold glass of milk. On the other hand, I actually look forward to weighing myself now because so far, the scale pointer is continuing to move to the left! I have 77 lbs. to go to make it to 140. Decisions, decisions. I'm thinking I might make a mini goal of 199 lbs. and stay on induction until I get there. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Then I'll reevaluate my situation once I get there. Ok, it's a done deal!
Looks like you're doing really well Karen. Keep it up and add the carbs when you're ready.:D
Oops, haven't journaled today, so here goes.
8/19/03: I'm almost embarassed to journal what I ate yesterday but I know I have to. Not because I went off my diet, but because I ate the same thing for lunch and dinner and they were leftovers from the night before! My energy level continues to rise. I'm looking forward to starting my exercise program on Monday morning. My new mini goal is 199 pounds, so I have about 18 pounds to go. Hopefully I'll reach that goal by, say, the beginning of October.
Breakfast: Morning Start bar, water.
Lunch: Pork chop, salad, Crystal Light.
Dinner: Pork chop by itself, water.

You are doing so well. I started Atkins months ago and have lost a little over 10. I have not been very faithful to Mr. Atkins. So it has been slow but I'm ok with that. I know I need to exercise more and say it every week but have a hard time fitting it into my schedule. I have never tried to breakfast bars, actually looked at them this am. Bought a vanilla shake instead. I have tried the pancake mix & syrup- yuck! so bland, even with vanilla & blueberries added. I'm going to start a journal, it seems to be a real motivator.
Keep up the great job!

Thanks for your suppport MeMe! The kind words from everyone who has posted have been heaven sent and I really appreciate and value the comments I've received. Now on to you. If you're happy with your rate of weight loss, then that's the most important thing. You're on a personal mission and the choices you make are ultimately yours. Don't gauge yourself solely by what everyone else may be doing or losing. Do what's right for you. As for the exercise, I completely know where you're coming from. I've decided that the only time I have to work out will be in the early morning. I have a husband and three boys, one in elementary, one in middle and one in high school. They all keep me very busy, and I work full tiime as well. Technically I could work out in the evening, but that would take time away from them, plus I'd be too tired. That leaves me with early morning. Maybe you can sit down and reevaluate your schedule. If you have children that you need help with, maybe you can ask your husband or another family member to look after them while you take some time out for yourself to exercise. Or you could even make it a family goal to do it together. I just decided to take the bull by the horns and told my husband that I needed his help in order for me to be able to take the time out to exercise, so we decided that he'll be driving the kids to school in the morning so that I can get an early start, go work out and then head straight to work. And maybe you won't be able to do it every day. Three times a week would be a great start. Starting a journal would be good too. It gives you the big picture on your progress and it makes it easier for you to see where you may need to make modifications to your menu. The biggest advantage is that there are some really nice people on this board and as I've mentioned before, their support is a great motivator. I don't have time to go to meetings or support groups but I need to be able to commiserate with someone when I'm feeling down and I'm also inspired by seeing others succeed. :D

8/20/03: I was good and didn't weigh myself. I've being weighing in every day and that's not a good habit. If the scale doesn't move exactly the way I want it too I freak out!
Breakfast-No time.:(
Lunch-The two boiled eggs I was supposed to have for breakfast, Crystal Light.
Dinner-Tuna salad, Crystal Light.
I've noticed that my appetite has really decreased which can actually have it's disadvantages in that I feel like I can skip a meal if I don't have time to eat. Not good, so I'll have to avoid those situations by making sure that if I don't have time to eat breakfast at home, then I have to take it to go. If I get busy at work I'll have to just shut the door to my office and take ten minutes to eat something. I should pack a lunch on days where I think I won't be able to leave the office to grab a bite. I never skip dinner unless I'm sick, only breakfast or lunch, but it's because I allow myself to become sidetracked.

Good morning, Castillo Mom! Could you please pass over some of your strength so I DON'T weigh myself everyday? I know I shouldn't worry about those numbers, but every morning I'm on that scale wishing with all my might that the little number will be smaller!
Gosh, I love how you talked to your husband about carving out some exercise time for yourself. That's what we WISHers have to do, though, isn't it? Be proactive, "grab the bull by the horns," and care for ourselves!! Your DH is a great guy to help you get your a.m. time. What's your exercise program going to be like? You'll have to start working for your exercise chippie! A couple more days for me then I'll try to attach one to my signature.
Do you like exercising in the early a.m.? That's the only time of day that I can do it--if I wait until I get home from work, it's just too late and I have no motivation (some nights I work 'til 7:30, 8:00). When school starts, my eighth grade daughter will have to get up at 5:30 and I'll have her on the bus by 6:45. I figure that will give me lots of bike/walk time before I leave for work later in the morning.
Have a good day, Castillo Mom, and stay on track! You're doing great!:Pinkbounc

Castillo Mom,
I can completely relate to you on the appetite "issue"! I was out the other day and not really hungry but I know that the metabolism will slow down and our bodies will think we're starving them if we don't eat something every once in awhile...so I grabbed a double cheeseburger with no ketchup and ripped the burger out of the buns. I never though I would enjoy a McD's burger without ketchup, but I got a packet of mayo and it was really not bad (as far as McD's goes  ) I had water with it...hey, a meal out for only $1.59!!! :bounce:
Some days I find I don't eat lunch until almost 2 and dinner is usually between 6 and 7, so there are nights that my poor fiance ends up being forced to wait until 8 or 9 to eat, and then I'm mad cuz we ate so late! LOL Can we win?
And yeah, how the heck do you keep from weighing everyday...I haven't moved all week (since Monday) and I keep telling myself it's fine, I started doing the 1 mile WATP last week and then this week I started doing the 2 mile AND using the total gym, so I have to be doing some good! I worked out everyday too...so it has to be good, right? It's too soon for me for my clothes to really start feeling alot looser...little bit, but not alot.
Someone posted on another thread that they're afraid they'll be doing this and find they put on the pounds after 2 weeks...I think maybe that's why I don't wait for a week to weigh...paranoia!
Thank you, too for the kind words on the other thread as well! I started a day after you, I think, so I feel like we're doing it together from the start! :)
Have a great weekend!

Good am Castillo Mom,
How's it going? You seem to be on your track. Have you been able to get out in the am to exercise? I'm going to try the morning too, way too tired after work. Monday will be my start, I'm estimating 5:30 am before the dh & ds wake up. And I'm taking my bike in to be serviced and adding a baby seat, then I'll add a pleasure exercise outing on the weekends.
I'm on a roll now thanks to you & everyone else on these boards:Pinkbounc

Hello ladies! Sorry I didn't reply right away but I got a little sidetracked with some changes I had to make to our trip to WDW, so I was on the resort board a lot these past couple of days.
I was bad again and weighed myself both yesterday and today. I was so glad to see you all had posted because I've been feeling pretty discouraged today. I'm down to 216, so I lost one more pound. That's one pound since Monday! I'm not happy about that because I've really been watching what I eat. Maybe that should teach me a lesson not to weigh myself every day or every other day! I need to post for 8/21 and 8/22 so as soon as I do that I'll have to see what might be slowing down my weight loss. I know that I can't expect to lose 7 pounds every week, and I know shouldn't anyway, but 1 pound? Sheesh!
As for exercise, I'll be starting LA Fitness Monday morning. I don't think I can exercise in the evening because for one, I don't have time, and two, I'd be too tired at the end of the day.
Thanks again for posting ladies, I sure needed to hear from you!:D
P.S. I have to admire you Meme, at 5:30 a.m. I'm snoring!:p I think it's key to enjoy your exercise routine, so if riding a bike is fun for you, you'll be more likely to stick with it. :D
Karen, I think you what you said may be what my problem is. I haven't been eating well the last couple of days. Maybe it's a slow metabolism. Thanks for pointing that out! And yes, we are doing it together. This board is the next best thing to having a weekly meeting. Actually better because I can meet with you in my jammies like I am now!:o
Lulu, your plan to exercise in the a.m. sounds great. You're lucky that you can drop off your daughter that early. My kids don't leave for school until 7:30, that's why my hubby has to take them now. If he didn't, there's no way I'd be able to work out and make it to work on time.

I was about to leave to do groceries, but I' better post to my journal or I won't have time later on.
8/21/03: I hadn't been eating well and I think my metabolism has slowed down.:(
Breakfast-Two eggs, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-No time.
Dinner-Tuna salad, Crystal Light.
8/22/03: I weighed myself. I lost one pound. Not too happy about that.
Breakfast-Cheese omelette, water.
Lunch-No time.
Dinner-Salisbury steak, 1/2 cup of broccoli, Crystal Light.
8/23/03: As I enter my menus for the last few days, I can see why I'm having a problem losing. I'll have to do better next week.
Breakfast-Two scrambled eggs, Crystal Light.
Lunch-Took my son shopping. I though I'd wait until I got home to eat lunch but lunch time turned into dinner time. Bad, bad, bad.
Dinner-Ok, I cheated a little at dinner. I bought Pollo Loco for dinner and ordered myself a chicken ceasar salad bowl. I asked the cashier whether it had rice or beans in it, she said no. Well, after I got home and started eating I realized it did have rice, about 1/2 cup. It also had some really small thin strips of corn tortilla chips. I didn't pick out the chips (too small) and had maybe three teaspoons of rice. It was delicious. I didn't feel too guilty though, because I hadn't had any carbs at all during the day.
Phew! Now I really have to go!

8/24/03: I may as well post what I ate today before I go to sleep. It was a very busy weekend. I took two of my boys school clothes shopping. Today I did groceries. I never did make it to the health food store, it got too late. That's ok because I picked up some goodies for myself at the grocery store to help perk up my menu.
Breakfast-I promised I would do better, but all I had time for was a couple of ham and cheese rolls, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-I hate to admit that I didn't eat lunch. I can't tell a lie in my own journal, can I?
Dinner-I did good this time. I had shrimp in a butter, herb and lime sauce with salad, diet Snapple.
Snack-This was the topper for me. I had an orange sugar free popsicle. It was sooooo good!
My goals for the upcoming week are to eat all three meals daily, no skipping. No weighing myself every day (although I have to weigh in tomorrow because my friend at work is dieting too and we agreed to weigh in every Monday). Exercise! Almost forgot, drink more water.
You're right AuntMeMe, I need to do better planning. I just got back from signing up with LA Fitness, so I have my first work out bright and early tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it went tomorrow. Good night!:D

STOP SKIPPING MEALS!!!
Sorry to shout....but I just had to....forgive me???
What about if you prepare some food ahead of time...like, all at once, cook some eggs (hard boil them and make them into yummy deviled eggs or something), some chicken...etc. and have it handy and basically ready to eat? I buy those salad bags that only have lettuce and you pay for the privledge of having them wash and cut it for you, but they are SO convenient and I don't care if they cost a little more because of it! All you have to do is grab a handful and throw it in a bowl! I've also been buying those oh so convenient packages of tuna that you don't have to drain...that can be thrown onto the lettuce, add some dressing and you've got a quick meal! I also have been buying larger packages of chicken breast so there will be leftovers from dinner, for my lunches/breakfasts...I find throwing some wing sauce on top of one and dipping it in blue cheese with some celery or a small handful of the "handy lettuce" makes a nice quick meal and it doesn't even have to be hot!
I know time is precious, but you are most important and you need to take a few minutes to eat, even if it's on the run!!! Your body thinks your starving it...and looking at what you're eating...well, it's barely enough to keep a mouse alive!!!
I said yesterday to my fiance that I am now eating because I have to more so than eating for enjoyment, which is the opposite of how it's been most of my adult life...it's kind of cool! But you gotta keep your energy and metabolism up!
Ok, I'm done yellin' for now...I wanna see 3 meals on here for you tonight! :)

Ok, ok! I get the message ladies!:p I promise to eat three good meals today. I actually started off pretty good this morning. I'm actually still eating breakfast; strawberries and 1/3 cup of cottage cheese. Delish! I know that I said I would most likely continue on induction but after thinking over it some more, I decided to try and add five more carbs into my diet even though I only lost the one pound last week. I got up this morning, went the health club and rode the stationary bike for thirty minutes. For me that's a lot. I lead a very sedentary lifestyle. I'm at work all day, mainly sitting in my office in front of a computer, then I get home, do what I have to do (make dinner, etc.), then watch TV before I go to bed or hop on the the DIS (more sitting at the computer). I digress, I figure I'll see how it goes with the extra carbs and the exercise. If I don't lose this week, then I'll have to readjust. I think I should be ok though.
Thanks for the tips on quick meals Karen. I bought some salad mix yesterday, so that'll help.
MeMe, I threw the earplugs out, so I can hear loud and clear now!
Lulu, I'm not sure what my routine will be yet. Tomorrow I'm going to ask one of the trainers to help me put together a routine with the weight machines. I just want to tone, not bulk up!
All of you have been an inspiration to me with all the exercising the three of you do. If you see me getting lazy, give me good kick in the you-know-what and push me out the door!:p
Guess I should get back to work.....

Back the low-carb train up a minute!!!
Are you trying to say that sitting in front of the computer isn't exercise??? My fingers REALLY move...doesn't THAT count for something???
Lisa...I think it's a good idea to add 5 carbs...I don't think you were eating 20 carbs to begin with, so I think you can still consider yourself to be in induction! LOL Honestly, I don't think most days I eat 20 grams either...
I think as long as you're losing, even if it's 1-2 pounds a week (which we all know is the ideal amount), then it's all good!

What was for lunch today? and how was the gym? did they give you a good routine? I did that once and never went back. I only go to the gym to do cardio now maybe after this fat slips away I'll try again.
And I better be burning some calories sitting here:p
Castillo Mom

Let's see, I've been on the computer for an hour now. How many calories do you think I've burned? Maybe if I jog in place while I'm typing that'll help. You're just too funny Karen!:p
Tomorrow when I go to the gym, I'm going to ask for some assistance with the machines so I can get a routine going. I want to do an aerobics class, but I don't think I'm ready yet. Saturday morning they have a water aerobics class but I need to get a new bathing suit before I start.
8/25/03: I weighed in and I'm still at 216. So that means I lost a total of 8 pounds on induction. Not too shabby. Hopefully my metabolism will speed up a little this week with the exercise. Ok ladies, you're my witnesses that I promise not to weigh myself until next Monday. If I even put one pinky toe on the scale before then, may the scale add 100 additional pounds as punishment.
Breakfast-1 cup of strawberries, 1/3 cup cottage cheese. I savored every bite of those berries.
Lunch-Bunless cheeseburger, two slices of tomato, diet Snapple.
Dinner-Tuna salad over salad greens, diet Snapple, sugar free popsicle.
I think I did pretty good with the meals today. I still need to do better with the water though. I only had three glasses today.

Good morning, Castillo Mom! Congratulations on a SUPER day yesterday!! You did three meals and everything! AND you went to the gym! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: Lots of celebration bounces for you!
I think that in time you'll look at your mornings at the gym as your special time just for you; I know that's how I look at my morning bike rides and time on the treadmill. It's getting so that I like it almost (and I mean almost) as much as my morning coffee and evening skinny cow!:p
We're all in this together, Lisa, remember that. We're here to watch out for you and lift you up when things get tough. You're fighting a good fight--keep it up.
Umm, I see that you're not going to weigh in until next Monday?
I think I want to do that, but I don't think I can. . .could I try to stay off it just until Thursday? You have the right to yell at me if I step on it before then, gulp.
Just a thought before I go: what if you lost "only" one pound a week for an entire year. . .that one pound doesn't seem so little any more, does it?
Have a good one!

I never did water aerobics but heard it's great. Get a new suit & go. and I know how that scale calls my name everyday but we must pretend not to hear it. I weigh on Saturday but should I do Friday if I leave for the weekend?
I have faith you will soon be at the 10 lb mark, yeah will you get a clippie?

Hello ladies! Didn't have time to post today. My boss is on vacation so that means I get to deal with the staff all by my lonesome for the next two weeks. I think I must've heard my name called a hundred times today. I got none of my own work done. I thought if I was asked one more question, I would scream! I shouldn't complain though, they're a pretty good bunch.
8/26/02 I did better today with the water intake. I had 7 glasses of water. I ate well too, except I feel like I over ate, but I don't think I actually did. I worked out again today but I got to the gym late, so I didn't have time to work with the personal trainer; I rescheduled for tomorrow morning. I did twenty minutes on the stairclimber (felt the burn) and twenty minutes on stationary bike.
Breakfast-Two eggs, three slices of bacon, 3/4 cup of strawberries, water.
Lunch-Herb chicken breast, salad, water (tired of chicken at staff meetings).
Dinner-Stir fry chicken. I know this sounds really weird, but I put cheese on top. Also salad, diet Snapple.
Dessert-Sugar free popcicle.
Lulu, it was nice to have some alone time. I think I could get used to this exercise thing.
I've been meaning to ask you, what's a skinny cow, sounds interesting.
Keep away from that scale Lulu. If I can do it, so can you! Don't make me use my mother voice, it goes up about ten decibels!
You know, I never thought about how if I lost only one pound a week for one year I'd be 52 pounds lighter. That's a good way to look at it.
MeMe, I'm so afraid to go bathing suit shopping. All those bright lights and mirrors in the fitting rooms. The thought makes me shudder!

Lisa,
Good job with your exercise and diet!!! Your menu looks good!
I know what you mean about feeling like you over-ate! I don't know about you, but when I'm on a weight loss plan (and this is the 2nd time in my life I am), I feel like everything I eat is dangerous and detrimental to the cause! You feel like less is better...but of course, it's not. I'm sure most days you don't eat enough and I think the same is true for me. I hardly ever snack and I thought...maybe I should have an afternoon egg, to keep the metabolism up! I've dropped alot of cheese from my diet, I was just so excited in the beginning that I could have it...but I think I was overusing it...
DO tell us about this stir-fry thing! What do you use in it? I'm also looking for some ideas!
Make sure you try to get that water consumption up! 7 glasses is still only 42 oz. and more is definitely better! I chug a bunch before and during and after a workout, I can easily put away 32-48 oz. in that time! I find I'm thirsty ALL the time too! Of course, it gets tricky when I have to leave the house...there must be a restroom every 5 or 10 feet or I'm in trouble! LOL Actually, that has gotten better...do bladders expand?
I guess I too would like to be called a skinny cow someday...or maybe just skinny since I try my best not to be witchy! (at least not in public! )
Keep up the good work..and yeah, are you going to register with WISH and get clippies? It's fun to see it there under your sig, I gotta confess! :)
Have a great day!

I worked out this morning with the help of a personal trainer. She made me do 30 minutes of cardio! I told her that I wouldn't be able to and would try 15 minutes, but I did it! Boy, did I work up a sweat. After that she had me do 30 minutes of weights. I feel pretty good right now.
Regarding chicken stir fry: I do my grocery shopping at Costco. Don't know if you ladies have one where you live but it's basically a warehouse where groceries are sold in bulk. With three boys, it's a must for our family. Anyway, I buy a big bag of frozen stir fry precut veggies. It includes green beans, carrots, red peppers, etc., you get the idea. It also includes two packets of asian sauce. I cut up fresh chicken and when it's fully cooked, I throw in half of the bag of veggies, stir fry some more, then add the sauce towards the end. I serve it with white rice for my family. Last night I sprinkled cheese on top of the stir fry just for myself and had a small salad. I know it sounds odd, but it was good.
Gotta go, ladies, I have a problem to tend to here at work. I'll post later.

P.S. MY skinny cow is an ice cream dessert treat made by Silhouette. It's creamy and yummy and has only 2 pts. You can get the ice cream sandwiches in all flavors (chocolate peanut butter is in my freezer now) or instead, you might have a fudge bar! One problem, though. Carb count: 27 for sandwich, 22 for bar. Think about it. As far as those other skinny cows. . .maybe we'll all be so thin one day, we can make our own herd!:p

Ok, I'm having a thought here...forget the veggies and the protein...I'm thinking "the skinny cow bar diet" for me!!! One bar per day and that's it...well, that and anything else with -2 carbs in it...is there anything that has negative 2 carbs? Surely there must be, I'm going to do a google search...

Karen, I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but my mom already invented the skinny cow diet! She was visiting at our house last summer and I formally introduced her to the cow. She had me run out to buy a pack of six so she could "have a snack in the afternoon." You have to picture my sweet little mother. She's almost 80, sharp as a tack, and has ALWAYS been on a diet even though she's not overweight. She prides herself on the fact that she has black coffee and dry toast for breakfast and hasn't had any margarine or butter for three years!! Anyway, I came home from work a couple of days later and went to get a s.c., and I couldn't find them. I said, "oh, gosh, we must've forgotten those cows at the store." She kind of got this sheepish little grin on her face, and said, "oh, no, we didn't forget them. I had a COUPLE for my snack!" The little lady had eaten 6 in 2 days!!!:p
Like Mother, like daugher!:p
Lisa, go look for these things. You'll like 'em, too!

Karen and Lulu, I'd love to try the Skinny Cow. But I'd only be able to that and nothing else. Oh well, maybe I can have one once I'm in premaintenance or ongoing weight loss. For now I'll have to stick to my sugar free popcicles.
The personal trainer was great. Today's session was free but they offered me three different plans that I almost went for. Right now I can't afford it because of the trip to WDW. The rates are really not that bad but I just don't think it's feasible right now. Who knows, maybe some unexpected money will fall from the sky.

I've been wearing too many hats this week. Just wanted to say I worked out this morning, 45 minutes of cardio but no time for weights. I'll post my menu on Saturday and take a peek at your journals.

I'm baaaaack! Whew, what a week. Thought I'd never get through it. I hope you ladies haven't forgotten about me, because I haven't forgotten about you.
I'm not even going to try to post my menus for the entire last week. Just know that I didn't cheat except for two days ago when I had one piece of wheat bread. It sure was good though. I'm too scared to add bread to my diet, so I consider that one piece a slight cheat. It sure was good though.
I had about 1/2 cup of milk today for the first time since I started Atkins. It was good, but it was 1%. I have to pick up a quart of whole milk for myself because I'm adding it to my diet on Monday.
I lost another pound, so that's a total of 9 pounds so far. I worked out only once this week. The kids started school this week and it's been really hectic at home, so I've been too exhausted to get up at the crack of dawn to go work out every day this week. But I have been taking the stairs at work, so that's something, right?
I'm not too concerned about the slow weight loss right now, because now I can definitely tell by the way my clothes fit that I'm losing inches too. I now weigh 216. I feel lighter too. I was in denial the last few days though. Every time I put something on that felt loose, I kept thinking that it was stretched out or something, even my underwear! But they're not stetched out, my clothes really do fit looser! What a weirdo I am sometimes.
Well, tomorrow night or the next morning, I'll try to get back to posting my menus. Have a good night ladies.:D

Hey, Lisa. . .it is so good to have you back! I was missing you! When I checked my log this a.m. and there was a post from you, it made me smile. Thanks!:p
It sounds like you're really hanging in there. With all the work and back to school stress you've still managed to hang onto your goals. Way to go!:Pinkbounc
Wheat bread as a cheat. . .geez, you Atkins people are TOUGH!
OK, I know it's not on the plan and all, but common on: it's wheat bread!!!! Now if you were munching on Evil Poison Donuts or were attacked by angry tootsie roll midgees, that would be definitely be a cheat, but wheat bread??????
Good for you on walking those stairs at work. They definitely count! Do you have good weather out there today? Maybe you want to go out and take a walk at lunch. It's beautiful here after about five solid grey and rainy days, so I think I'll skip the ole treadmill and walk the dog instead.
Good to see you back on the boards, Lisa.

9/5/03: I'm forcing myself to post tonight because if I don't, I'll forget what I ate by tomorrow. I've been doing good this past week even though I didn't have time to post to my journal. I've stayed pretty focused and have tried not to obsess about what the scale says. I weighed in today and lost another 3/4 pound, so I'm about 215 now. Not too shabby. Oh my goodness, I've forgotten what my starting weight was. I'm going to have to read my first post.
Breakfast-About a 1/3 cup of cottage cheese. I tried to eat more, but didn't have time.
Lunch-I did better this time. Had two hamburger patties, lettuce and tomato. I added a little bit of ketcup, mayo and mustard, drank water.
Dinner-Rotisserie chicken with the yummy skin on it, salad tossed in oil and vinegar, water.
Dessert-Now this was the kicker. I had two diet jellos with whipped cream. Soooooo delicious. Amazing that one serving of whipped cream has less than 1 carb. I guess it's all the air. Oh, I also had a no sugar added creamcicle which was pretty bland.
I think I went slightly over my carb allowance. I'm supposed to be having 25 carbs and I think I had 27-30. Oh well, I'll do better tomorrow. I don't think I caused any damage. I still need to do better with the water. That's always been a struggle for me. It's so strange, I feel lighter on my feet lately. Only three weeks ago I felt my legs were made of lead. Yay!

Lisa!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Great to see you back here!!! I haven't been much better, but I've been lurking and watching everyone...and I was hoping everything was OK with you since you weren't around!!!
Just remember every hat you wear is extra weight you're carrying around and it makes your body work harder and burn more calories!!! (ok...they'd have to be pretty heavy hats, I guess  ) I'm trying to be peppy! :)
I am with you on the weight loss thing...I feel like the scale is just not reflecting my hard work and I get frustrated, but then I tell myself it's not just about the scale...but still! We're approaching a month, and I can remember seeing other people after a month on Atkins with their big clippies and now I'm thinking they surely weren't exercising or eating at all, or something! My DH2B has lost 17 pounds and I'm at about 7.5! I was down 4, then 1.5 then .5 and now finally, I think it's moving again...I think this is common, to have it slow a week or two and then move again. I think we're in the same boat, anyway...and we just need to keep doing what we're doing and know it will come off slowly...but it will come off!!! :bounce:
I'm glad to see you've added some stuff to your diet...you must be loving THAT! I haven't done that yet...with the exception of a few berries and a breakfast bar 2 mornings, I've really only stuck with induction stuff. If it's not going to make me lose faster though, then the heck with it, and I'll have a few different items here and there, I guess. I think for me, I had to eat more veggies to get the scale to start moving, I don't think I was having enough carbs...or veggies.
We'll get there though, I know it!!!
Anyway, sorry to go on and on, I'm just so glad to see you're back and doing ok!!! I worry when someone isn't around that maybe they've given up! So don't!!! :)
Have a great weekend!

Lisa - WOW! You're really sticking with it in spite of the craziness at work and the kids heading back to school! Keep up the good work! With low-carb, the scale often stays the same for a bit and then all of a sudden you get a visit from the whoosh fairy. That's just one of the quirks of low-carb - try not to take it too personal. The scale WILL move, I promise, as long as you keep making good choices.

I was bad and didn't post to my journal for yesterday. Let's see if I can remember what I ate....
9/6/03: It was a pretty rushed day. I went to work for six hours, then took my eldest son shopping AGAIN! I don't know if I like this high school teenagery thing. It sure is getting expensive (I sure adore that boy though). But that's another topic, back to the subject at hand.
Breakfast-Chorizo and egg, milk.
Lunch-Got too busy with paperwork at the office, so only had 1/2 cup cottage cheese.
Dinner-It was pretty late when I got home, about 8:00 so I didn't feel like eating a full meal. Had one piece of leftover chicken and about 1 cup of salad.
Dessert-Two sugar free jellos with whipped cream. Very yummy.
9/7/03: May as well post what I ate today because I know I won't have time tomorrow. It was a busy day again. Was about to go out the door this morning to do groceries at Costco when my eldest son ran upstairs and said that he lost hold of a heavy speaker while he was helping his dad unload DJ equipment from our minivan and it crushed the tip of his right middle finger. Fortunately we leave 1/2 mile away from the doctor (also where I work) so I took him in. He only suffered a hairline fracture with skin avulsion. Poor guy, he's an artist (extremely talented if I may say so myself) and was so worried as the injury was on his dominant hand. He should be fine in about a week or so. After that I had to run to the pharmacy for his antibiotic, ran to Costco to do groceries, rushed home to put them away, then was out the door to take my other two boys shopping for MORE clothes, then to Target for household stuff, and last but not least picked up a few more school necessities. Boy am I chatty tonight.
Breakfast-Needless to say, not time.
Lunch-Bought a hot dog at Costco but threw out the bun, diet coke.
Dinner-By the time I was able to sit down and have a moment to myself it was already 10:00. Had two pieces of lunch turkey rolled with cream cheese, a cup of stawberries with whipped cream.
Oh, I almost forgot, I lost another pound! I'm down to 214 and have lost 10 pounds, whoohoo!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Hey there Doe, thanks for the vote of confidence. I was worried about the scale at first, but I'm over that now (at least for a little while). Are you on Atkins too?
Karen, you're right, I think the problem may have been that we weren't eating enough. I had fears about adding more carbs, but I haven't had a problem. Glad to see you're having more veggies. I remember you saying you didn't eat them as much before. Keep up the good work, you're doing great.
MeMe, I cant' wait to go clothes shopping for myself. I think I've gone down one dress size. I don't want to hit the mall until my clothes are sloppy big though. That way it'll be a shock to see what my new size is.
Ok, I've edited three times now, time to hit the hay. Good night!

Lulu I noticed a pattern as I was reviewing my journal from beginning to end. I've skipped meals when I've been out and about or at work, but not at home. The reason is sometimes I'm not in a place where there's no food available that I can actually eat. For instance when I was at Costco I bought lunch for my son but the only thing I could eat from the menu was a hot dog and then I threw away the bun. At work if I take a late lunch I sometimes decide that I may as well wait until dinner to eat. I know I need to improve in this area but I've think I've gotten a little better. I was good this morning and had stawberries and cottage cheese. For lunch I'll have tortilla soup (without the tortilla part of course). I weighed in again this morning and I lost another pound so I'm at 213. Oh, about the clippie, last time I tried I couldn't get it to work. I'll have to try again when I have time. Gotta go but I'll check in tonight. Have a great calorie free day Lulu!

Please try to eat something at each meal you must keep the metabolism going if you want to keep going down. I try to keep an atkins bar every where so when I need something it is there. I have 1 in my purse, desk at work, car & home. It really has worked, I winded up eating one while I shopped at Target last week.
You sound so busy and need to focus at least a little attention on you-stay focused and when you finally get to shop for yourself those dresses are going to fall off of you:p

Lisa, you've been doing great and the weight is coming off, one pound at a time!
Make sure you have snacks with you for emergencies - a single serve pack of peanuts or sunflower seeds, beef jerky (check carbs!) or an Atkins bar. There WILL be times when you just can't find anything low carb and you'll need something to fall back on. I'm like MeMe - I always have an Atkins bar handy...just in case.

You guys are so great. I'm so glad you all posted because I'm in a bit of a funk right now and you've all given me a pick me up. It's amazing how people who you've never met in person and live thousands of miles away can have such a positive effect with just a few kind words. Thank you so much.
9/9/03: I'm starting to obsess again about the scale. I've weighed myself for the past four or five days in a row. Somebody stop me! Anyway, I'm at 213 lbs. So I guess my goal for the rest of the week is to stop weighing in. I'll try to wait until Monday.
Breakfast-Cottage cheese, strawberries, water.
Lunch-Chicken salad, Crystal Light.
Dinner-Ham and sour cream rolls, salad, water.
9/10/03: Did pretty good today with the meals. I actually woke up hungry this morning which was a little weird.
Breakfast-Two eggs, two slices of bacon, one cup of milk.
Lunch-Two hamburger patties, lettuce, tomato, pickles. Had regular ketchup on my patties along with mustard and mayo. I don't think I did any damage with the ketchup though; Crystal Light.
Dinner-Crab salad, water.
Dessert-1 cup of strawberries.
I"ll have to pick some Atkins Morning Start bars, haven't bought any in a couple of weeks.
It's sleepy time. I'll check in tomorrow. Good night ladies.

Hi, Lisa! I've been thinking about the scale a lot lately, too, and I've come to the conclusion that the numbers don't really matter at all (except so that we can get new clippies, of course:)), what matters is the successful lifestyle that we're managing to lead. You knew that, though, didn't you? When you look at your journal entries and see the healthy way that you've been eating, those pounds are bound to drop off your body when you're not even looking! Success is "walking the walk" each day and taking good care of ourselves, right? So, I'm vowing to stay off the scale 'til Monday, too. . .the No Scale Challenge begins today! We'll compare notes on Monday morning?
Today I'm going to try to drink all of my water--eight glasses worth. How 'bout you? Are you drinking enough during the day?
Our minds have been thinking a lot alike, because I, too, was marveling at how my new WISH friends have made such a difference, in such a short time, in my life. I'm glad you're one of them, Lisa:) Have a great day.

Thanks for the reminder to drink my water. I just can't seem to drink the entire 8 glasses. I drink about 6 a day. Hey, it's better than before I started Atkins. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't really drink much water unless it was flavored.
Let's definitely check in on Monday. When I come in to work Monday morning I'm going to make a beeline to the scale after having to wait 3 whole days. I think I need to go to Weighing In Anonynous because right I'm in serious scale withdrawal. Have a good day Lulu!:D

I know it's awfully early to be on the boards (it's not even 6 a.m. our time), but I'm feeling the urge to get on the scale, Lisa!:( Tell me to be strong! No, I can do this myself, gulp, I can wait until Monday, I know I can!:(
I'm going to try and focus on the positive behaviors that I've got to put forth today--watching my points, fitting some exercise into the day, taking my vitamins, and drinking that water. Knowing that you're avoiding the temptation of the scale, too, helps a lot, Lisa. If we can just make it to Monday there's bound to be lots of celebrating when we step on, right?:)
Have an Onward and Downward kind of day,

Lisa, hang in there!! I just know you can make it til Monday!! Besides, as Lulu said, the numbers on the scale don't even begin to tell the story of how good we're treating ourselves and the healthy habits we're building!! Even if you never got on a scale again, you'd see changes in how your clothes fit and how good your body feels - much better motivation than a silly number from a scale!!
I'm sending {{ hugs }} and extra willpower and good thoughts your way!! Knowing that I'm not doing this alone and that there are a circle of us helping and being helped by each other is so wonderful! We're in this together!! (now my eyes are getting teary at work! :D

Good morning all! I've managed to stay away from the scale, but sheesh, it sure is hard. My clothes are fitting looser and looser. My coworkers are actually commenting on my weight loss now. When you're at 224 pounds, it takes a while before lost pounds become apparent.
Lulu, you can do it! I know it's soooo hard, but you can do it. When you feel that magnetic force pulling you towards the scale, resist, resist! Just imagine how good we'll feel on Monday when we can hop on it on Monday. Hey, let's syncronize our watches. I weigh in at work. I come in at 9:00 and usually weigh in as soon as I walk in the door. I'll check in with you, at say, 9:30. I don't know how that works if you're in a different time zone though.
Doreen, the feeling is mutual. We are in the this together! You've all been an inspiration to me to keep going. This is as good or better than joining one of those support groups. I can talk to you guys in my jammies at 1:00 a.m.:D

Lulu, I forgot that I have to be in an all day meeting on Monday so I'll have to check in around 8:00 or after 5:00. Either way, I'll post sometime Monday. Hang in there, ok?
I guest I should post my menus for the last two days.
9/11/03: Feeling pretty good, finally pulled out of my depression. I noticed that I felt like grabbing something with sugar in it,like some cookies or something, but I resisted. I'm sure it had something to do with my mood. But I'm fine now, made it over the hump.
Breakfast-Sugar free hot chocolate. I know, I should've eaten. Still have had not time to stop at the healthfood store for more Morning Start bars.
Lunch-Salad greens, Crystal Light.
Dinner-Two hamburger patties with cheese, side salad, steamed mixed veggies.
Dessert-Strawberries.
9/12/03-Did much better this day. Although I didn't have lunch, I did well with breakfast and dinner.
Breakfast-Two egg omelette with ham and cheese, 1 cup of whole milk.
Lunch-Nothing.
Dinner-It's difficult to describe but it's a latin dish called Picadillo which has ground beef, tomato sauce, a small amount of corn and seasoned with garlic, onion, cumin, pepper, salt, white wine, green olives. Also had salad, water.
Dessert-Two sugar free jellos.
Ok, back to work.

Hi, Lisa! Glad to see you on the board.:) One more day and we can get on the scale!:Pinkbounc Is my excitement too weird or what?! I think this is the longest I've ever gone without checking my progress, and I think it's been a good thing that we're doing for ourselves. 'Cause like MeMe says, it doesn't matter at all what the number is and we shouldn't even have scales!!!
Looks like you're eating great and held onto your healthy lifestyle even in the midst of a little "blue funk" as I call it. That's so tough to do, I think. I always want a cookie, or a pretzel, or some other yummy carb to make me feel better. . .why is that? I'm glad you made it over the hump, though. Here's a hug for good measure {{{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}}}}--just so you know I'm here for you whenever the going gets rough.
Oh, yeah, getting weighed on Monday. I'm up around 5:30 to get DD up for school and I know I won't be able to resist past 5:31 or so (!). I'll check in with you on Monday to see how you made out. Remember, no matter what the dumb thing says, we know that we've walked the walk to the best of our ability and the number, well, whatever it is, we'll live with it!
Take care,

Breakfast-Ham roll with cream cheese, 1 cup of whole milk.
Lunch-I was at work and forgot to bring my lunch that I had made myself in the morning:rolleyes: so I had two more ham and cream cheese rolls that I keep in our office fridge; Crystal Light.
Dinner-Roast beef, salad, water.
I'm off to run errands. I'll check in on Monday night or Tuesday morning.:D

Thanks for the vote of confidence Doreen.:D I'm still here at work and just got back from my meeting. I weighed in and......I'm at 211! Yee ha! So I'm down two more pounds since 9/8. I'm doing my happy dance right now. It was worth the wait but I don't know if I can wait another whole week to step on the scale again.
I guess now would be a good time to post my menu from yesterday.
9/14/03 Somehow I'm going to have to get in the habit of posting the day's menu at night before I go to bed, because doing it a day or two later is confusing me and sometimes I forget what I ate.
Breakfast-Scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, sugar free hot chocolate with whole milk added (very yummy).
Lunch-Don't yell at me but I skipped lunch. I had to run some errands and got back later than I had anticipated.
Dinner-Picadillo, salad, water.
Dessert-Strawberries
This week's goal is to eat all three meals, no skipping. Now I'm off to see what you all have been up to.

How 'bout we take a week off from being mentally healthy and relax and obsess this next week? LOL!!! I'm with you Erin! I'm so glad you're giving us permission to get back on the scale if we want because I was hurtin' this morning. It was just excruciating, and that thing just kept calling to me, " Lisa, hop on, Lisa, hop on!" It was terrible. But at the same time it felt oh so good! I have a good excuse for doing it though, really I do. When I weighed myself yesterday, it was in the afternoon, not in the morning like my usual routine. So I thought that maybe the scale wasn't accurate. Maybe I hadn't lost as much as I thought. I got on this morning and low and behold, I'm at 209.5 pounds! I guess when they say to weigh yourself at the same time, it's for a reason.
What you said hit the nail on the head Erin. There's no way I would've been able to stay from it all last week if I hadn't made that pact with you. Each time I felt that temptation, I felt like I'd be letting you down if I went through with it, and I knew you were going through the same agony and it wouldn't be fair for me to cheat even though you can't actually see me. Talk about a guilty conscience. But I kept my promise and now you've eased the pressure a bit by suggesting that it's ok to obsess this week. Thanks Erin!:D Let's shoot for a scale free week for the beginning of October, ok?
Gotta go, I'll check in later.

Here's another pound and a half happy dance for you!:Pinkbounc :bounce: Never get weighed unless it's the morning, OK?:)
Let me know when you want to take the challenge again. The first week of October could be a really great time. . .I leave for WDW and the Wonder on 10/3, hee-hee!:p There will be no scale and no desire to step on it whatsoever! Hi, Lisa! Just wanted to check in and say hi. I was thinking about you this morning as I was dragging the scale out of the linen closet (at least I was doing it guilt free;) ) so that I could check my progress mid-week. Wanted to throw the dumb thing back into the closet after I weighed myself! Why is it that I have this secret belief that I'll step on the scale after three days and it'll show a miraculous 10 lb. loss?!? I'm leaving it in the closet 'til Monday!
Sometimes this healthy living business is just hard! Last night I came home from work tired and wanted to find comfort in the kitchen cupboards, but I just ran in, grabbed my cow, and ran out before the urge to graze overtook me! I know that that's a good thing, but I really wanted to eat a whole tub of popcorn at the time! Knowing that we're all in this together--and that you can see me from CA :p kept me on the straight and narrow.
I hope you have a good day. Try to eat all your meals, OK?:)

I know it's late, but I had to check in. Thanks for the kudos ladies, I've been working really hard!
Erin, I've had the same experience with the scale this week. I guess if you weigh only once a week, you see that 3 or 4 pound loss at once as opposed to weighing every day and seeing a few ounces at a time. Oh well, I'm still obsessing about the scale this week. I weighed in today and I'm at 208.
I did see you go into your kitchen today to reach for those cookies you keep stashed away, but you reached for your Skinny Cow instead. Good girl!:Pinkbounc Did you see me at Jack in the Box dying to get a hamburger, bun and all? If you did, then you know that I chose the chicken club salad instead. I did have a few croutons though. Not bad, eh?
Time to post my menus....
9/17/03: I'm racking my brain trying to remember what I ate!
Breakfast-Strawberries, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-The rest of the chicken sizzling salad I had left over from the day before.
Dinner-Steak, salad.
Dessert-Strawberries.
9/18/03-It's getting difficult to keep up with my journal lately and doesn't look like my situation will be getting any better any time soon. I'll be putting long hours for the next month or so, but I'll do my best.
Breakfast-Sorry to say that I skipped this meal.:(
Lunch-Chicken club salad from Jack in the Box.
Dinner-Kashi cereal with 1 cup of milk.
Snack-Slice of cheddar cheese.
Tomorrow I promise to eat breakfast. I'm off to visit my friends' journals....

Hi, Lisa, I'm over here now, visiting your journal!:) You are doing an awesome job--another pound!:Pinkbounc Oh, my gosh, you're just melting away out there in CA! Hey, everyone better not stand too close to Lisa--they may catch her pounds when they're falling off her body!! :p You know what they say, "energy [or matter or something scientific] is neither created nor destroyed," so those excess pounds have to go somewhere!
Enough silliness! Promise me, in the hectic days ahead for you, that you'll be good to yourself. It sounds like you're going into a dangerous place--that place when working so much, along with taking care of our families, makes it REALLY hard to watch what we eat. Caring for ourselves becomes a lower priority. Go into this place with your eyes wide open, Lisa, so that you can continue to stay on the road to success that you're on! You've lost 16 pounds. That is such an acccomplishment, girlfriend. You've worked hard and you haven't given up along the way. You're doing it!
Have a good one, and check in when you can. If it's hard to get to my journal, don't worry about it! I'll be nosing around yours and we can check in together here. :)

I'm just checking in to say hi to all my WISH friends who come visit my journal and to ask a question. Who is it that eats Skinny Cow? I think it's you Erin, but I couldn't remember for sure. I went to the grocery store before work this morning, and low and behold, there they were in the freezer section, Skinny Cow products! Ooh, and they look so good! Unfortunately too many carbs for me. They were all around twenty something carbs, a little too high for me at this stage of my plan. They must be a savior for whoever is doing WW.
Ok, back to work. I hope you're all having a wonderful low fat or low carb day! Talk to you all later.:D

Sorry Erin, I didn't see your post at first. Thanks for being in my cheerleading section. I'm trying my best but this morning was a bit of a challenge. When you work at a doctor's office, you're always getting all kinds of goodies coming through from other contract facilities as a "Thanks for doing business with Us" and it range anywhere from bagels, donuts, huge muffins, all types of candy, cakes, pies, you name it. You'd think that because they're medical facilities as well that they would send healthy food. Hey, how about a block of cheese or a side of beef for us low carbers?! The good thing was that I had made it a point to eat breakfast and I was already full of the stuff I'm supposed to be eating. If I would've been hungry, I definitely would've caved!
Thanks for the advice Erin. I'll try to make it a point to prepare some meals ahead of time so I don't have an excuse to cheat. Thanks for being understanding if I don't visit as much the next couple of weeks. I sure will try though! Have a great weekend if I don't get to check in for a couple of days. Be good to yourself.:D

Maybe when you're cooking dinner you can double the recipe and freeze some of the leftovers for those busy days ahead. Also, don't forget to stock up on low-carb snacks. Even an Atkins bar is better than pigging out on carby stuff!!

Just a quick hello from me, Lisa!!! I can't believe how well you're doing!!! I read through the struggle with the scale posts and laughed, my DH2B and I both weigh ourselves constantly, but I accept that I won't see much...I guess I worry that if I do something wrong, I won't know what it was if I only weigh myself once a week, I dunno! Silly, I guess after 5 weeks to worry, I'm still basically eating inductiony (it's a new adjective I just now invented!)
I thank goodness for Kevin (dh2b) because he points out where he sees the loss in me, I don't feel it THAT much in the clothing (thanks to working out and gaining muscle), but he sees it all around on me and always tells me, so that helps! Inches and pounds aren't "melting" off as I guess I had hoped, but it's all good, slow and steady wins the race, right?
What is your total loss at this point? You need a clippie! ;)
I'm here...even if I don't seem to be!

Well, I've lost a total of 16 pounds but I haven't weighed myself since Friday, so we'll see what the scale says tomorrow.
Don't worry about the slow weight loss, Karen. As long as it's a pace that you can live with, that's all that matters. It's YOUR body and YOUR experience.
I'm not gong to post my menus, too tired. I just want to say that haven't cheated and I'm still on track. I had breakfast and lunch today but no dinner, just a peach. It looks like a beautiful day here in Southeastern PA; yesterday we had tornado warnings. . .couldn't put up the door to the garage/gym when I was doing my walk--too afraid of being swept away! Fortunately the storm blew over pretty quickly, but not too far from us, three twisters touched down. :(

Karen, Erin, Maryellen, Feebee, Doreen, I miss you guys! You've all been in my thoughts this last week. Have you been good?
I've been doing ok. I weighed in Monday and didn't show any loss, but that's ok because the week prior I did pretty well. I'm not posting my menus tonight, too short on time and energy. I've been sticking to my plan except for tonight. Tonight was the first time I literally cheated since I started Atkins. Some friends and I threw a small baby shower for someone. We had it this evening at a restaurant called Lucille's. I'm not sure if you all have one out your way, but it's an upbeat barbeque restaurant with great food and drinks. On the drive over I thought about what I was going to eat. I had eaten eggs and bacon for breakfast and a hot link at lunch, so pretty much 0 carbs at that point. I basically knew that I would go off plan. I rationalized that I had been very disciplined up to this point. Should I allow myself to indulge? I decided yes. This is what I ate: Tri tip, 1/3 corn on the cob, vegetable medley (zucchini, squash, carrots), ice tea (unsweetened of course) and a small piece of chocolate cake. The tri tip had only a very small amount of barbeque sauce. The biggest cheat obviously was the cake. Did I sabotage myself? I don't think so because I have no intention of having processed sugar again any time soon. I guess I'll have to see what the scale says. I'm purposely going to wait until next Monday to weigh in.
So what do you think ladies? Did I do a really bad thing? For those of you on a low carb plan, do you think I'll get readdicted to sugar just from that one small piece of cake? What have your experiences been when you've been strict with your diet and you went off plan for just one meal? What were the results? I know everyone's body reacts differently but I'm just curious as to how things have worked out for others.
Well, for the next few days I plan on limiting myself to 20 carbs and even staying away from fruit in hopes that my body will readadjust.
I'm off to take a quick peek at your journals. Good night!

Hi, Lisa! Good to read your journal entry this morning and see that you're still hanging in there. You've been doing great! As far as your trip to Lucille's (never heard of such a place, but it sounds fun. . .do they have a good margarita? Oh, I'm getting off track), it sounds like you handled your indulgence quite well. As we're all realizing here, if this healthy living stuff is for the long haul, we all have to learn how to have fun without falling totally off program. It sounds like you did just that!
We need to learn to live with moderation--a small piece of chocolate cake and a yummy dinner out occasionally is part of living a happy life:p--we can't always be denying ourselves or we won't feel good about the choices we make. How do I feel after I've made the choice to indulge? Pretty darn good! :Pinkbounc
Seriously now, I feel good because making the CHOICE and having a binge are two different things. When I've made a conscious choice like you did on the way to the shower, I feel free to enjoy my food. A binge, for me, is a desperate attempt at trying to comfort myself because of fatigue, anxiety, or stress in general--at the time, there seems to be little choice in the matter. I feel like the food is controlling me! You, on the other hand, were rational and clear headed!
After I've eaten a lot (like I did at the family birthday party), I feel ready to cut back again. I try to drink even more water than usual the next day, but I haven't been adding extra exercise or anything to my schedule--I just don't have the time. What will happen next week when I'm in WDW and on the cruise, I don't know. I've told myself all along that when I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation, and I want to enjoy all the food and everything that comes with it, but I also know that I don't want to come home 10 pounds heavier! Still working on a strategy for this challenge!
Lisa, I'm glad that we're in this together. I'll try to check in with you this weekend--before our trip to the scale together on Monday. You did mean that you'd weigh in on 9/29, didn't you? You're not thinking about waiting until 10/5?!?
Take care,
Erin

Lisa, I think you did GREAT! You chose to treat yourself, knowing that you are in control and that you would get back to plan the next day. Now, if it were me, I'd reset my cheat free clippie back to the beginning, but I would not feel guilty in the least. You were eating with friends to celebrate something special, and there's nothing wrong with that unless you start making up reasons to celebrate every couple days. :p
As far as the physical consequences of being strict low-carb and then indulging - it does vary by person and by how MUCH you indulge. I don't think you'll feel too bad with the meal you had. You may notice an increased craving for sugar for a couple days but it shouldn't be too strong. If I go really overboard, then I feel overly tired and headachy - almost like a hangover - and bloated for the next day.
All in all, you should be very proud of you! You're discovering how to eat healthy for the rest of your life, and that includes the occasional treat! Well-done!!!

Lisa, you did the same as I did. I was on my 30th cheat free day and decided to have a margarita (ok 3 or was it 4:rolleyes: ) and nachos. I enjoyed every taste and felt great. Totally in control. And the next day I was back to the plan. No guilt and I didn't notice anything off with my body. I agree with Lulu about the change in our eating habits. We chose to have a treat, we didn't binge or eat for emotional reasons.
You did fantastic and I'm sure the scale will be kind to you:Pinkbounc

I'm baaaack! Whew, it's been quite a week and it doesn't look like things will get any easier at work over the next month. Oh well, more money for my Disney trip!
I'm not posting menus AGAIN! But I've been good, I promise. Except for that one day last week when I ate at Lucille's.
Now for the moment of truth....I lost one pound. Yay! I'm at 207. I'll have to look back through my journal, but I think it took me about a week or so to lose that one pound. But that's ok. I will say one thing about my menu this past week though. I discovered "no sugar added" Dryers ice cream. Talk about decadent! I had the correct serving size, 1/2 cup of neopolitan with whipped cream! I won't be indulging every day, but when I do, I'll have to plan for it. It's 14 grams, so if I eat any, it'll have to be on a day where I've kept my main meal carbs pretty low. But that's ok, I'm willing to sacrifice and make modifications in order to have it.
The office is buzzing with activity now, so it's time to go. Have a great day all!:D

Well, no time to post my menus, but I've been good. I weighed in this morning and I'm to down to 204! So, it's official, total loss is 20 pounds. Now if I could just figure out how to do the clippie thing. I tried it a couple of times but it didn't work for me. But I digress. I was at 207 for about two weeks. Then all of a sudden I dropped three more pounds. I guess there's hope for me yet.

Here I am! Just checking in for a minute to say that I'm still plugging away on Atkins. Today I made a major breakthrough so I just had to post. I'm down to 199.5 pounds! For me it's a big deal because I've been looking forward to meeting the goal of being under 200 pounds.
So now it's time for a new goal. Let's see.....Ok, I think a good goal would be to get to the weight I was when I had first lost weight on Atkins four years ago prior to my major surgery. I had made it to about 180. My new goal then is to reach 180 by the end of January. I guess it's possible that I might get pretty close to my goal weight of 130 to 140 by the time we go on vacation (BTW, booked our flight this morning:hyper:).
Ok, back to work. I'll try to check in with my WISH friends tonight. Hope you all still remember me!:)

Checking in this Monday morning for the first time in quite a while. I won't post menus but I've been staying on plan. Only problem is that I haven't had time to exercise, although I did walk for 15 minutes this morning. I attended a wedding on Saturday and danced the night away, so I'll count that as exercise. Boy am I sore this morning. I used to go dancing every weekend about 4 years ago. Haven't gone recently and I'm really out of shape. Oh well, it's a good excuse to start going again as soon as things die down here at work. The food at the wedding was absolutely scrumptious. It was at a place called Copacabana and it was up in the hills. It was one of THE most romantic weddings I've been to, and I've been to many since my husband is a mobile DJ. Anyway, they served caribbean food and needless to say, I allowed myself to sample a little of everyting (in moderation of course). Didn't feel one iota of guilt either because I've been very disciplined 99% of the time. Had a delicious caribbean salad with mixed salad greens, papaya, mango etc. They also served roast pork, garlic shrimp and some sort of chicken which I didn't try but looked good. Side dishes were black beans, white rice, a seasoned rice mixed with black beans called congri, yucca (cassava), and mixed veggies. Only had about 1/2 cup of rice and maybe a tablespoon of the black beans. As for the cake, I had about 4 bites of that. I weighed in this morning and found that I lost a pound and a half. Yay! So that brings me down to 191 1/2. Almost forgot, I had one glass of champagne. My first drink in over 4 months! Anyway, gotta get back to work. Thanks for your encouragement everyone. You guys keep me in check because I know you're watching and that's been a real motivator for me.:D

Oh, one more thing. I forgot to say that I bought my first new outfit since the weight loss and it was a size 14. Now I know that's still a large size but when I started Atkins I was a size 20. Technically I'm between a size 14-16, but you know how some manufactures sizes vary, so this was a 14 on the larger end of the spectrum But still, a 14 is a 14 to me!:)

Well, I survived the four day weekend in pretty good shape. Weighed in this morning and found that I lost another 1 1/2 lbs, so I'm down to 190. One more pound to go to get my 35 lb clippie. I'm making myself a new goal for December since things have gone a little better than I expected. I'd like to make a goal of losing 8 lbs. this month since I've been averaging about 2 lbs a week but I'm afraid to go through the disappointment if I don't make it. My new goal then will be to lose 6 by 12/31 bringing me down to 184. If I lose 8, great! If not, then that's ok. I'll be happy if I can at least get that 40 lb clippie by the 31st.:D

Hi Lisa,
I'm a Lisa too, by the way. I just wanted you to know that I have spent part of my morning reading over your journal entries and I want you to know that you are an inspiration to me! You have done so well and it's nice to be able to see your progress from the beginning until now. I appreciate how you listed your meals (when you were good and not so good). You have given me ideas on how to vary me and my husband's meals. We're doing South Beach but it's similar enough to Atkins so again, I appreciate your listing what you have eaten.
I'm going to start a journal sometime today and hope, despite your busy schedule, you will give me some feedback or encouragement. Congrats on losing so much weight! You are doing so well and I can't wait to join you in Onederland!

Thanks again for your kind words Lisa. As you already know by now, I posted to your journal yesterday and this morning. I promised you I'd post yesterday's menu, so here goes:
Honesty is the best policy, honesty is the best policy!
Menu for 12/2/03
Breakfast: Two whole grain crackers, water. Didn't do too well with my first meal of the day, I got distracted with work.
Lunch: Six whole grain crackers topped with seafood salad, sugar free peach Snapple. Yum!
Dinner: Taco salad made with salad greens, ground beef made with taco seasoning, 2 tablespoons of refried beans, cheddar cheese. I was starving so I had an extra helping of just the meat and cheese after I finished off the salad; diet 7-up.
Ok, so I messed up with breakfast. I also did not have enough water yesterday, only 8 oz. I'll try to do better today, but it's not looking too good this morning because I didn't have to make myself any breakfast, so I'll at least have a couple of crackers and sugar free hot chocolate. I brought my water though. My goal for today is to drink my 8 glasses of water.
I'll try to post today's menu this evening or tomorrow morning.

Hi Lisa!
So glad you posted! I know what I'm having for dinner now Friday night. Your taco salad sounds yummy. Thanks so much for posting to my journal. I really appreciate the support.
I am not the biggest fan of breakfast either but something I made last night might help you if you are so inclined. It's called vegetable quiche. I did add bacon to mine but not hubby's and thought they were pretty good. Better than getting up in the morning and making an omelet which takes time to make and a suprising amount of time to eat.
Anyway, the recipe is made with frozen spinach, whatever veggies you want (peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.), eggs (I used egg beaters since I can't have dairy the first two weeks), and cheese. I did add several slices of bacon to mine so I guess I techically didn't have vegetable quiche.
You combine it all together and then put equal amounts of the mixture in a 12 cup muffin tin with those foil liners. Spray the liners with cooking spray then bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes and voila, you have breakfast for days. According to the SB book, they can be frozen and reheated whenever. I refrigerated mine since hubby and I are sharing, I know they will go fast. A serving is considered 2 of them. I thought it wouldn't be enough but it was surprisingly filling and I didn't get hungry until about 10:00 which is snack time anyway.
Obviously, I'm a newbie around here but if I can offer any suggestions that might help make your hectic life a bit easier and get you to have something quick but filling for breakfast, I'm happy to help.
Now go drink some water!!!!

Lisa, that's a great idea, I love it! That would be such a time saver for me, all I'd have to do is throw one of those in a bag and I'm off. Thanks for the recipe, I'll definitely pick up some of those liners next time I do groceries. BTW, I've had 32 oz. of water already and it's not even noon yet. Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
Edit: I forgot to say that you can add olives, sour cream and guacamole to that taco salad too. I ran out, but normally I would have added those ingredients as well.

Good morning (afternoon)! Wow, I can't believe I'm posting my menus two days in a row. Haven't done that in a long time. Here goes!
12/3/03:
Breakfast-Two whole grain crackers, water. I aknowledged yesterday the fact that I need to improve in this area and plan ahead since I already know that my mornings will be hectic.
Lunch-1 thick porkchop, side salad with Ranch dressing, diet snapple. Lisa, if you read this, I try to make extra portions of main dishes for dinner so that I can just grab leftovers to go the next morning. That's IF I've cooked the night before! Lately I only cook 2-3 times a week.
Dinner-Here's where things got a little complicated. I had to take my son to Urgent Care last night for a badly infected ingrown toe nail. I'm finding that my teenager doesn't tell me when something's hurting until the last minute nowadays. He's a great kid and the poor guy is very perservering, sometimes too much so. This is his first year in high school and he's had perfect attendance and I think he thought that if he told me right away, he'd have to miss school to go to the doctor. Even though he was seen after hours, he ended up being absent today anyway since he let it go for so long.:( By the time I got through with going to the pharmacy and then the grocery store, it was 10:00 when I got home, so I had a late dinner. I had a salami and cheese sandwich on Orowheat light 100% whole wheat bread. The bread is only a total of 11 net carbs, not bad. I used to eat Ezekial low carb bread which is only 4 carbs, but it was too dense and dry and I got tired of it. The Orowheat bread is higher in carbs and a little on the dry side, but it tastes a lot better and I can still stay within my alotted 25-30 carbs a day with no problem if I plan appropriately.
I had my 64 oz. of water yesterday for the first time in I don't know how long. Today I've only had 8 oz. so I'd better get to steppin'. I weighed in this morning and I'm still at 190. Hopefully by Saturday I'll be down a pound, maybe two if the woosh fairy pays me a visit. I'm dying to break that 190 barrier and get my 35 lb clippie. I'll check in again tomorrow.

It sounds like you had a good day food wise. I'm sorry to hear about your son, I can't imagine how disappointed he must be to have his perfect attendance record broken.
I was all excited to try your taco salad for dinner tomorrow night until I read the ingredients on the taco seasoning and it says it contains yellow corn flour. It's one of the ingredients listed toward the bottom of the ingredients list and only has 4g of carbs but I'm scared to use it! I feel like I need the doctor who wrote the SB program to be available to answer my every little question and concern on call 24 hours for me. Uggggg. I really want to make that taco salad so I'm going on the prevention site and do some research and see what the SBers over there have to say in past threads.
Don't mean to sound like a whiner but I've been really good for days now and all I want is a taco salad, is that too much to ask? :teeth:
Anyway, you are doing so well, Lisa, keep up the good work!!!!

Decided to go ahead and post my menu for today since I'm online anyway.
12/4/03:
Breakfast-Two eggs, three strips of bacon, small cup of coffee. Boy that coffee was good. I've been staying away from caffeine, so it was a treat to have some.
Lunch-Turkey and cheese sandwich on Orowheat bread, diet Snapple.
Dinner-Two hamburger patties with cheese. I left my salad greens at work.:( I didn't feel like cooking the zucchini I had in the fridge, so I just had the patties; diet 7-Up, 1/2 apple for dessert.
I didn't meet my goal of drinking 64 oz. of water today. I only had 8 oz. I felt water logged from yesterday, yuck! I promise I'll do better tomorrow.
Erin, nice of you to drop by. I've been reading your journal so I know things have been hectic for you lately but you seem to be handling things pretty well. :D

Lisa,
I'm glad you posted your menu plan and know you'll get that water thing together. I haven't been doing too well with mine today. By now usually I'd be on my 4th mug of water but I just finished my second. Time to take my own advice and go drink some water with lunch.

Oh what a lazy afternoon it's been. I usually work on Saturday but IT is working on our database this weekend, so I was forced to take a day off. Took son to a doctor's appointment this morning, came back and made a late breakfast and now I'm just lazing around doing nothing very constructive. I love it!:teeth: Ok, down to the business of posting yesterday's menu.
12/5/03:
Breakfast-Made a major addition to my diet. I had 1/2 cup of oatmeal sweetened with Splenda and mixed with 1/3 cup of whole milk. Delish! I've missed hot cereal so much and haven't had any since before Atkins.
Lunch-Another boring sandwich with salami, ham and cheese and a diet Sprite. Oh well, better than not eating.
Dinner-Two hamburger patties with cheese, broccoli, diet Snapple. I decided to treat myself to one of those mini muffins (banana nut). Yes, it had sugar in it, but it was only about 11 carbs, probably less because I forgot to check how much fiber it had which I would've been able to subtract. It was really good and I don't feel one bit guilty because it was so tiny. My husband must've thought I was crazy because I was taking these teensy little bites. I told him I was trying to make it last as long as possible, LOL! I must've looked pretty silly.
I almost forgot to mention that I was perusing the Atkins website and noticed that they've added some new products. Ice cream bars and some other desserts, etc. I'll have to see if I can find the products locally because they're too expensive directly through Atkins.

Hope you continue to have a relaxing weekend and keep up the great work!

Hi, Lisa! Just dropped in to say hi before I get on the treadmill. It sounds like you're doing an absolutely fantastic job, and you're motivating many other Atkins followers with your experience and success!:Pinkbounc
Are Mondays still your weigh-in days? Do you check only on Mondays now? I have to confess, I weigh myself almost every day. . .it's just better for me that way. I post on the weekly thread on Monday and on the New Years Challenge on Thursday. It sure keeps me on my toes! Anyway, if you're facing the scale tomorrow, good luck!

:o Good morning! Wow, there's a lot of early riseres around here. Not me, I rolled out of bed at 9:30. It rained all night and it's still raining right now. That means it's darker than usual and that makes me want to stay between the warm flannel sheets and my big fluffy comforter.
12/6/03:
Breakfast-Two eggs, three strips of bacon, 1 cup of milk.
Lunch-Two slices of bologna rolled with cream cheese. I was online and lunch passed me by so this was actually a snack; diet Snapple.
Dinner-Chicken with stir fry veggies, diet Snapple.
Didn't drink the obligatory 64 ounces of water. All I can do is try to do better tomorrow. If anyone has any suggestions on how to do the drinking water thing any better, fire away.
Hi Erin! Treadmill on a Sunday morning? You're soooo dedicated. I should be followed you example but what can I say? I'm either too busy or too lazy.;)
Yes, my official weigh in is still on Monday, but I do weigh myself on other days as well. I just can't help it! As for checking in, I do it when I can. I've been pushing myself to check in more often, but there's no particular day or time, just when I get a moment. I'm going to go see what you've been up to Erin.

Sounds like you're doing well. I can't wait for you to post a loss. When and if you get a chance, take a look at my journal. I'm so happy with my first week's loss but I don't want to post it here on your journal because, hey, this is your space!
I was thinking about the water situation. Maybe the answer is bottled water. It can be expensive but I bought a case for around $5 at BJs which is what I would normally pay for a quart of premium brand ice cream. It helped me yesterday at this dinner my husband and I attended. I actually carried it around with me during the evening and drank it instead of the sugary soda that was available. I think several people were jealous and actually asked me where I got the water from!
I also have started to keep a bottle with me at home. It is so funny to walk around with a bottle of water permanently attached to my hand but I think it will work. I also am going to keep a bottle handy when I exercise and make sure I keep one by my night stand when I go to bed so I can sip on it if I get thirsty in the middle of night. My point is, perhaps we need to be more water conscious and that will help us out. Let me know what you think.
Have a great cheat free day!

Here I am, another Monday, another day, another dollar. Had a pretty relaxing weekend until Sunday afternoon when I tried to exchange something at Old Navy. Crowds were really thick and let's just say I didn't notice very much joy and cheer out on the road. But anyway, this is a weight loss journal, not a " What Did Lisa Do Over the Weekend" journal, isn't it?
12/7/03:
Breakfast-Two scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, diet Snapple.
Lunch-Leftover chicken stir fry with veggies, diet Snapple.
Dinner-I was out and about most of the afternoon and got home late. Had three lunch meat and cream cheese rolls and water; mini muffin for dessert.
I weighed in this morning and lost 1/2 lb. I keep telling myself that I should be happy I had a loss and not a gain, but I was hoping for at least 1 lb. I'm considering going back on induction next Monday, but I'm still mulling it over.
Lisa, you can post anyting on my journal! I'm excited for you so I'm off to read yours. Have a great day!

Keep up the good work and thanks for the open invitation to post to your journal. Same goes for mine. Post anything you like, anytime!

Boy it was a long, hard day today at work, but I survived. We were really short staffed and I was fortunate to even get to eat lunch.
12/8/03:
Breakfast-Here I go again, no time so just had two crackers. I'm not doing this on purpose, really! I hereby vow that tomorrow I'll eat breakfast.
Lunch-Ham/turkey sandwich on Orowheat bread of course, water.
Dinner-Two hamburger patties with cheese, diet Snapple. I was just too tired to cook veggies and I was out of salad greens.
I drank 64 oz. of water today, woohoo!:boat: This was the only smilie I could find that has water in it, but I just had to give a visual of how I feel right now and that's as close as I could get.
Tomorrow I'm making roast beef in the slow cooker. I love my slow cooker. It's the quickest way to make a main dish while making it seem like I slaved over a hot stove.:teeth:
Lisa, I'm weighing in again tomorrow just in case the scale goes down 1/2 lb. I'm anxious to get my 35 lb. clippie. And while I technically broke the 190 lb. barrier and now weigh 189 1/2 it doesn't seem official until I hit 189 even. Good night!

Hi Lisa! :wave2: I popped in to see what you've been up to!
Looks like you're doing well. Are your menus getting boring? I know mine are!! Those hamburger patties are gettin' dull!! I just got a new low-carb cookbook so I'll let you know if I find anything really yummy and easy! I've started using 1 oz nuts for a snack and it's surprising how filling they are.
For some reason, I drink more water when I drink through a straw - I have no idea why, but it does help me get my 64 oz a day in! :p
Keep up the good work and you'll have that shiny new clippie in no time!

Erin, no I didn't lose that 1/2 lb.:( I'm holding steady at 189 1/2. I'm still undecided as to whether to go back on induction. The trouble is that I found a great low carb cheese cake recipe on the Splenda website and I'm dying to try it. I do my official grocery shopping this weekend and was planning on picking up the ingredients. Decisions, decisions!
Doreen, those hamburger patties are definitely getting a little stale. When I'm starving they do the trick, especially when I want a hot meal that's quick to prepare. Thanks for offering to post recipes, I'll take any suggestions I can get. You know, I was at Borders this weekend (don't know if you have one out your way, but they're like Barnes & Noble), and I completely forgot to look at the low carb cookbooks so thanks for the reminder. I'll have to try your straw idea, that might just work for me.:D
Well, I'm still at work and was just taking a quick break. Erin, Doreen, I'll visit your journals tonight to see how you're doing. Have a good evening ladies.

I didn't know splenda had a website, I'll have to check it out. I would really like to have a slice of cheesecake one of these old days (fairly soon too!).
You have a good evening too! I hope to be able to spend more time reading everyone's journals soon. Our computer died and I'm waiting for a new one from Dell so that limits my time on the computer.

We picked up Dana Carpender's 500 low-carb recipes a couple of weeks ago. She has another book out as well. My DH has been trying recipes out of these books but more than that he's been using the book as a guide to how to adapt his own favorite recipes to low-carb cooking. (Now if I can just get him to adjust the portion size - my appetite has decreased so much since starting Atkins.)
Carpender has a whole section on the ingredients she uses for baking and breading - she also has cookie and desert recipes (definitely not for induction but a nice choice for low-carb eating long term.)
I think the hardest part of staying with any diet program until meeting your goal is the monotony of what we choose to eat. Right now I'm missing cottage cheese - the mainstay of my diet when I did Atkins induction in 1999. It is really great that Subway, TGIFriday's and other restaurants are starting to offer low-carb options too - makes it easier to stick with it.
Thanks for being there - took me a while to get through your journal - but you are truly inspirational...if you can do it, I can do too!

I'm baaack! Well, as you can see by my new clippie I've weathered the dieter's plateau storm. Whew! I weighed this morning (as I have very day this week) and found that I now weight 188 and 2 oz. Woohoo! I was getting worried there for a minute. I'm not going to post my menu for the past week, can't really remember other than that I had prime rib for dinner last night. It was served with green beans and baked potato. Baked potato?:scared1: It was dripping with butter and sour cream. I asked that they substitutue with a side salad or extra veggies, but the waitress was not very accomodating. I was too tired to push the issue, so I figured I could just take it home to my hubby or just leave it on the plate. Well, I had two bites. That was the most delicious baked potato I've ever had in my entire life! Well, almost. I'm not sure how many carbs are in two bites, but I'm not concerned at all. The potato didn't make it home for fear I would want to eat it as a midnight snack, so it stayed on the plate. Well, I'm still at work so back to the grindstone.

I haven't been doing a very good job at posting my menus lately, but I'm going to post yesterday's this morning before I get started with work.
12/19/03:
Breakfast-Um, let's just say I had good intentions of stopping by the Bistro (on-premisis restaurant where I work) but I got a little side tracked.
Lunch-Here's where things get interesting. The physician's I work hosted a lovely luncheon for us at a french restaurant. Temptations abounded! We started with appetizers, a tomato-basil mixture on very small pieces of buttered garlic toast. I ate one which couldn't have been more than 4-5 carbs since it was so small. Next appetizer was shrimp that had been sauteed in butter/garlic. Yes! I freely indulged in these. Next came ceasar salad which was very good and very fresh. For the main entree we had a choice between filet mignon, chicken marsala, halibut or salmon. I had the filet mignon sicne I was not in the mood for seafood or chicken. It was delicious and the portion size untipically generous. It was served with green beansand brocolli and some type of potato which I didn[t touch. It looked good though. Now for dessert. We had a choice of creme brulee or banana flambe accompanied by vanilla bean ice cream. I went ahead and had some of the ice cream and one tiny bite of banana. Not too shabby.
Dinner-One pork chop, diet Coke.
Even with the small indulgence I had, I still stayed within the 25-30 carb range yesterday. I weighed in this morning and I'm down a pound and I now weigh 187. Yay! Now back to work.

Lisa - I'm so glad you were able to post! That lunch sounds wonderful. I was just telling my sister how low carb eating can be very satisfying and what you ate just proves my point. Who wouldn't want shrimp, steak, a salad and veggies for a meal and then a little taste of dessert? You truly can eat this way and not be or feel deprived. Good for you!
And down another pound. Girl, you are going to be disappearing in a minute if you keep this up! :teeth: I am so proud of you. Keep up the great work! I weigh in on Monday. I am going to resist the urge to weigh in a day early. I'll report on what the scale says. I am hoping for a 2 pound loss. We'll see. Take care!!!

Just finished watching LOTR Two Towers which I think was too much stimulation and I can't to sleep, so might as well post today's menu.
12/20/03
Breakfast-Two slices of Orowheat whole grain bread, toasted; small cup of coffee. I went to the office today to catch up on my work so didn't have time for a full breakfast. The toast sure hit the spot though.
Lunch-Leftover pork chop from last night's dinner; diet Coke. Sugar free jello for dessert.
Dinner-Taco salad, diet Coke. Atkins ice cream, butter pecan which was delicious!
I plan on sleeping in tomorrow morning and a full day of house cleaning to follow. I'm baking a cake for the kiddos, so it's a good thing I have a stash of low carb desserts in the house. The kids are officially on winter break. Taxi mom gets a rest for two weeks, yay!
Lisa, thanks so much for your encouragement. I was worried last week since I hadn't losts, but I guess I kind of made up for it this week. Well, I made it through today's baking session without a problem. Made 18 chocolate cupcakes for the kids and a spice bundt cake for hubby. My kitchen smells so good right now. Fortunately I have some Atkins butter pecan ice cream waiting for me.
12/21/03
Breakfast-Two scrambled eggs, hot link; water.
Lunch-Wasn't in the mood and I got too busy.
Dinner-Homemade chicken soup. Made sure I didn't have any chunks of potato in mine, only zucchini; diet cherry 7-UP.
My goal is to get my 40 lb clippie by 12/31/03. Seems like a reasonable goal since I'm at 187 right now. So that would mean 4 lbs to go in 10 days. Hmmm, maybe it's a little loftier than I thought. Oh well, I'll have to see how things go.
Beth, thanks for your encouragement! I know the feeling of taking one bite of something and ending up eating the whole thing! Sometimes I have willpower, sometimes I don't. I'm at the office right now and finally have a moment of peace and quiet since no one else is here. I'll try to at least remember my menu from yesterday. The previous few days are basically a blur, but I pretty much stayed on plan.
12/26/03:
Breakfast-No time!
Lunch-Went out to lunch with my mother which was nice. Had a bunless avocado burger with a side of cottage cheese; ice tea.
Dinner-I ordered a pizza for the kiddos. Nothing but boring food in the fridge and we were out of produce! Settled for a hamburger patty (again) with cheddar cheese and two hot dogs (without the bun of course); diet coke.
I weighed yesterday and I'm down to 186 1/2. So that means I'm 2 1/2 pounds away from meeting my goal of 184 (40 lb milestone) by 12/31. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the next few days, but I'm going to try my best. I just don't want to be disappointed when I weigh in on 12/31.
Yesterday we got a new ekg machine and I was the guinea pig. Oddly enough they discovered that I have a resting heart rate of 46 which is really low. Basically anything below 60 is considered abnormal. Bradycardia isn't always a bad thing, athletes have a slower heart rate. The problem is I'm not an athlete, never have been. I'm a little concerned and will make an appointment for a physical with my doctor to see what's going on. In the meantime, I promised myself I wouldn't freak out because it doesn't mean anything is seriously wrong. Could be that's just the way my old ticker functions.

Well, it's Monday morning and boy, it was a busy weekend. Before I start jabbering I'll post my menu for the last two days.
12/27/03:
Breakfast-Eggs with chorizo, coffee.
Lunch-No time
Dinner-Oh boy, here we go. My MIL called and said she had made us a pernil. For those of you who read this and don't speak spanish, it's roast pork loin, highly seasoned with garlic, cumin, oregano, etc. It's a typical Puerto Rican or Cuban main dish that is always accompanied by morros or congri which is a mixture of white rice and black beans, also very flavorful, and fried sweet plaintains. Oh, I almost forgot the yucca (cassava) which is a root vegetable similar to potato. It's boiled until very soft and topped with tons of garlic and onion which has been sauteed with bacon. To not have the roast with all of the aforementioned side dishes is considered sacrilege in our culture. You guessed it, I caved. But before you get out the whip, I didn't go all out. I served myself a large portion of meat, a teeny bit of rice, a teeny bit of cassava and 2 slices of plantains. I loaded up on the roast so I would get full and wouldn't be tempted to have more of the no nos. I must say, it was a delicious meal.
12/28/03
Breakfast-No time, I was out and about shopping.
Lunch-Ok, ok, I know, I should have stopped and eaten but I was having so much fun at the mall!
Snack-I usually don't post snacks because I don't have them. But I took the kiddos to go see Peter Pan at around 7:00. Had some popcorn and a diet coke.
Dinner-Ate very late, around 9:45. Had a protein burger from In N Out, very yummy. I discovered a new product at Costco, a fruit drink with only 2 carbs that's supposed to help supress appetite and contains vitamins. I didn't get it for the appetite supression, but because It's hard to find fruity drinks that are low carb. Tastes pretty good.
Don't know if I should post because I don't really ever see anyone else bring up the subject but I'll go out on a limb anyway. I'll go so far as to say that I know some of you have to be experiencing the same thing. How do I put this gently? Let's just say that hubby and I had a lovely evening yesterday. I just had to mention it because it's a part of this journey that's an important one. It's amazing how weight affects the way we feel about ourselves, you know, self esteem. As I was walking out the door this morning, he gave me a big hug and said, " You have curves!" I took this as a huge compliment because for over 2 years I've been feeling so crappy about my appearance and my health. Because of those feelings I put up a wall around myself. I felt like a big lump of shapeless clay. Anyway, that was a high point for me.
Now for the results of official weigh in. I'm down to 185! One more pound to go for my 40 lb. clippie. I know that I'll see and feel the next 40 lbs. more than the first and I'm looking forward to the process. While shopping yesterday I noticed that the stores have started bringing out new arrivals for spring. Saw lots of cute dresses that I'm hoping to fit into by then. I'm trying not to buy too many things right now in anticipation of dropping some dress sizes.:teeth: I'm wearing size 14-16. I bought a couple of tops and a pair of jeans at Lerner yesterday. The tops were a size large. When I started Atkins in August I was a size XX-large and size 20, bordering size 22. It feels good to be able to buy from one of my favorite stores. I look thinner today because my new top isn't swimming on me. I still wear my big clothes and they're so large, they make me look heavier than I really am. I'm a cheapskate and feel there's no sense in spending more money than I need to.
I made an appointment with my doctor for tomorrow, so we'll see what happens. Thank you all for your comforting words, I feel much more at ease.
Littleducksmom, we CAN do this! Let's be sure to stay completely on plan and I know we'll be successful!:D
Lisa, I'm going to pop on over to your journal by the end of today, actually to all of your journals. You guys keep me going!
Doreen, you always have such nice things to say. Thanks for your prayers! I hope everything is going well with you and that you have a positive and focused day today! Stay away from that 'ol evil vending machine, ok?
Laurie, thanks so much for reminding me that our new machine may need to be tweeked a little. I feel so much more at ease. All these thoughts were racing through my head the other day, and of course I just had to get on the internet and by the time I was through I was sure I'd be needing a pacemaker! Talk about paranoid.
Beth, thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings in this journal. It's nice to know people are watching, it keeps me on the straight and narrow (well, most of the time).
Have a great week everyone!

I bet you look fantastic in those new clothes. Who knew clothes shopping could be fun. Great job on that dinner. Sometimes you need a taste of favorites to stay on track. You should be proud that you limited yourself to those tiny portions. That pork roast sounds wonderful. Keep up the good work. You'll get that clippie and a sexy little sundress this spring.:earseek:

Lisa - I think we are twins!!! I wanted to post something similar about how pleased hubby and I are with each other and the lovely evenings we have been enjoying quite frequently lately. It is just awesome rediscovering someone you have known for years. I almost feel like I am cheating on my husband! I always used my weight as a wall too. If you feel unattractive you can't be loving and giving to other people but when you start to feel good about yourself, a whole new world opens up for you.
You are doing so well and I am bursting with pride over your success. You will have that 40 pound clippie in no time. I am 1 pound from my 20 pound clippie and can hardly believe it so I know you must be overjoyed with your success so far.
I always appreciate you commenting on my journals. You help me stay on the straight and narrow path too.
Please let us know what the doctor says and keep up the great work!!!

I'm still up, so may as well post today's menu.
12/29/03:
Breakfast-Two slices of Orowheat toast, coffee.
Lunch-Beef brisket, zucchini; water.
Dinner-Tuna over salad greens; water. Had strawberries and whipped cream for dessert, very yummy.
Ok, it's really cold in my bedroom right now, so I'm logging off and diving under my warm covers. Goodnight!

Good morning, Lisa! I'm excited for you as you get closer to your clippie!:Pinkbounc Forty pounds--what an accomplishment that will be! :Pinkbounc
Feeling good about ourselves makes quite a difference in ALL areas of our lives, doesn't it?;) One of the many benefits of weight loss!:p I'm glad your DH appreciates the happy, healthy YOU!
So, have a great day, Lisa. :sunny: That clippie is almost in your back pocket!

Edit: I'm back!:wave2: I wanted to tell you about the Walk Away the Pounds video. There are a whole bunch of low impact walking/aerobic tapes put out by Leslie Sansone. I got the 3 Mile tape to see if it would give me something to spice up my routine, and I think it was lots of fun! Leslie is upbeat and positive, and the routine incorporates some upper body strength training that I need. See if you can rent one or get one for cheap on half.com to see if you like them. :hyper:

If you have the recipe for you MIL's pernil, please post it. DH and I love latin food (and asian food...well almost all food). Just because you're eating low-carb doesn't mean it needs to taste like cardboard.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
Well, here we are on the eve of another new year. Let me post my menu for yesterday before I start rambling.
12/30/03:
Breakfast-One slice of whole wheat toast, cup of coffee.
Lunch-Hot link, lettuce/tomato, zucchini, Crystal Light.
Dinner-Had a very late dinner with hubby. We had gone to Toys R Us to by some games for the kids. We're trying to get them away from the TV and their Playstation/Gameboys. Oh, and I forgot about the computer. Seems they're always in front of something electronic. Anyway, by the time we got done there it was after 9:00. Had dinner at El Torito. Ate a dish called warm fajita salad. It was really good except I didn't realize the dressing would be so sweet. It was made with a grape vinegraitte. I think it was a bit too much sugar for me. I weighed this morning and I'm still at 185 so I guess I won't be getting that 40 lb. clippie yet. Oh well.
Went to the doctor yesterday and he says all is well. His eyebrows went up because he noticed that I'd lost 8 lbs. since I last saw him on 11/24. It was nice to get a compliment from him since he is the expert. He told me not to worry about my heart rate, in fact it was 57 when he checked it. I just love the guy. He's very attentive and the type that likes to sit down and shoot the breeze with you before getting to business. He's very thorough and always explains his diagnoses and treatment plan. I'm very fortunate to have found him. I work for Kaiser Permanente and we have a huge choice of physicians but he's one that stands out among them.
Ok girls, time for some New Year's resolutions, me first! Let's see, my goals are going to pretty much the same as they have been since August. One thing for sure is that I want to reach 130-140 pounds this year. I know I can do it and I'm not going to set a specific date. When I look at how far I still have to go, it makes it seem like it'll take forever, so I'm taking things one step at a time, making mini goals as I have been all along. I want to be healthier by eating healthier. I'd like to get into some type of exercise program on a regular basis (thanks Erin for the explanation of WATP, I'll have to try one out). I'd like to spend more time with my family as well. Take more time out for hubby and I. Our first WDW vacation is coming up in 8 months including a side trip to Universal that the kiddos don't know about. I'm really excited about that but a little nervous about flying since I haven't flown for a number of years. When we return I'm going to start planning our vacation to Hawaii for 2005, just me and hubby and a separate family vacation to a spa resort in Arizona. Oh, and drink more water! Well, that's all I can think of right now.
I hope all of you have a wonderful year and meet all of your goals and stay happy and healthy. As Lisa (Zeraspride) says, let's
" Lose more in 2004!"

Finally, I'm back! Haven't posted since New Year's Eve but I've been a good girl, I promise! Let's see if I can remember some of what I've eaten the last couple of days.
1/1/04:
Breakfast-Two scrambled eggs, 1 hot link, 1 slice of low carb bread with cream cheese and strawberry jam, latte sweetened with Equal. This breakfast was delicious!
Lunch-Napped and slept through lunch.
Dinner-Picadillo, salad greens, ranch dressing, diet Coke. Picadillo is a Cuban or Puerto Rican dish. You brown ground meat and add onion, green/red bell pepper, fresh garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, Goya brand seasoning. When the veggies are tender, add tomato sauce and white wine (raisins are usually added but I omit them due to the carbs) and simmer for about 20 minutes. Towards the end you add green olives. It's usually served over white rice but of course that would be a no-no for us low carbers.
Dessert-I had an ice cream sundae! I made it with 1/2 cup Breyers low carb ice cream, topped with a couple of fresh (frozen) strawberries and whipped cream. Delish!
1/2/04:
Breakfast-Two eggs over easy, 3 strips of bacon, coffee.
Lunch-Two burger patties with cheese, broccoli, salad greens, diet 7-up.
Dinner-Pork sandwich on low carb bread, diet 7-up.
Dessert-Skinny Cow low carb chocolate/peanut butter ice cream bar. Very good and very generous in size. Only 4 carbs!
I discovered a couple of new items in the bread section at the store, in addition to the ice cream I bought the other day. Roman Meal makes a low carb bread, can't remember how many grams right now though. Seems like more companies are starting to realize the need to modify products for low carbers and I'm loving it! I like some of the Atkins products but they're expensive. I'm finding that other companies are also offering a better value.

We had some success in finding more low-carb items at the store today too! I agree the Atkins brand is really expensive - I'd rather spend $10 on a container of picked crab than on 1.5 boxes of Atkins cereal! We did find the low-carb wraps like they use at Subway today also and the store's own low-carb bread.
Your Picadillo sounds wonderful! We have to give it try.

I'm doing laundry right now so might was well post yesterday's menu in between loads.
1/3/04:
Breakfast-I slept in yesterday and by the time I got to work, I figured I may as well wait another hour for lunch.
Lunch-Ham and turkey sandwich on low carb bread, low carb fruit drink that I can't remember the name of and Atkins crunch bar for dessert.
Dinner-Leftover picadillo, salad, low carb fruit drink, Skinny Cow chocolate/peanut butter ice cream bar.
Deb, I haven't seen the Breyers low carb chocolate ice cream, my local Ralph's only has vanilla, so I'll have to look elsewhere for it.
Laurie, saw the commercial yesterday for the Subway wraps and they look really good. Haven't had a chance to get there yet but plan on it soon.
Erin, thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I still officially weigh in on Mondays and any other day in between as the mood strikes me! I'm hoping tomorrow morning I'll be able to get my 40 lb clippie.

I've been over on the trip planning boards as I eat my yummy dessert. Now's as good a time as any to post today's menu.
1/4/04:
Breakfast-Two eggs over easy, 3 strips of bacon, latte sweetened with Equal. I bought a big box of Equal back in August before I knew about Splenda and I'm so anxious for it to be all gone. Maybe I'll give the rest to someone else, I really would prefer Splenda.
Lunch-I wasn't very hungry after that yummy breakfast so I just had a slice of ham rolled with cheddar cheese and my low carb fruit drink. I remember the name now, Fuze! It's pretty darn good and only 2 carbs. 0 points for those of you on WW.
Dinner-Threw a roast in the slow cooker this morning since I knew today would be a lazy day. Had that along with mixed veggies, water.
Dessert was Breyers vanilla ice cream topped with two strawberries and whipped cream.
Well, the kiddos start school again tomorrow so back to my early morning routine of being taxi mom. Good night!
I am embarassed to write that this is the first time I have read your journal. I have to say that I am learning so much!!!!! I am going to try to make some of the meals that you write about. The ground beef with peppers, etc, sounds great and easy enough.

Hi Lisa,
It's been a few days since I've been able to come over here and check on your progress. You should be so proud of the 1/2 pound you lost. I was not too pleased with my loss this week either and I am vowing to stay off the ice cream for a while. I don't know if it holds us back or not but it's starting to be a liability so I'm letting it go for a bit.
How are you? I hope things aren't too crazy for you right now. Hugs to you and keep up the great work. I think you are right to look back over your journal entries and see where you can make some adjustments. I've had to do the same thing.

Ok, down the business of today's menu!
1/5/04:
Breakfast-1 slice of low carb toast, small cup of coffee sweetened with Splenda.
Lunch-Two hamburger patties with cheese, broccoli and green beans but just a small serving, about 1/2 cup, Crystal Light.
Dinner-I had breakfast for dinner tonight, two scrambled eggs and a hot link with 1/2 Fuze fruit drink.
Stayed at around 20 carbs today, not too shabby. I'm dying to have some low carb ice cream but I'll resist! I also have a couple of Atkins Endulge candy bars but I think I'll pass on those too for tonight.
I know I won't be able to resist the temptation to weigh myself tomorrow, so I won't even pretend. It's a bad habit that's hard to break. At least I don't smoke!
Lisa, things should be fairly calm this week but I'll still end up working 58 hours by the time Saturday comes. Thankfully my husband is supportive and is able to be home with the kids since he can set his own schedule when it comes to work. He's a mobile DJ and his gigs are usually only on the weekend in the evening. There's no way I could work the hours that I do without his help.
It looks like you and I won't be eating ice cream anytime soon. I'll wait until the weekend to indulge and I think that should be ok.
I thought about you last night because they gave a special on low carb diets on Food Network and they talked about South Beach in addition to Atkins. There was this chef that they profiled who lost something like 200 lbs. doing Atkins and now he specializes in low carb cooking at his restaurant. He made a delicious looking "pasta" with Alfredo sauce using spaghetti squash for noodles. I'm going to have to try the recipe. Oh, and his family lost weight too, wife 75 lbs, son 100 and another son as well. In total they lost over 500 lbs. I love low carb! Night night.
:D
Sounds like a great day for you. I like the sounds of that spaghetti squash recipe also.
What type of low carb bread are you using? I haven't seen any in our grocery stores.
Great job today.

Lisa and Beth, yes, we must resist! I did good last night and kept my promise that I would have no ice cream or low carb candy.
A1A1, last week I discovered a common brand of bread that now makes a low carb version, Roman Meal. It's 6 net carbs per slice, not too bad if you have a sandwich or a slice of toast on a day where you keep your carbs pretty low. My plan right now is that if I have a sandwich at lunch time, I'll only have say eggs and bacon for breakfast and for dinner I'll have some protein like steak or chicken with a small salad. I don't think it's a good idea for me to have a sandwich and ice cream on the same day either. That's pretty much my strategy to see if I can get the scale to move a little more this week.
So far this morning I've only had two slices of salami and a small cup of coffee. I have bread in the fridge here at work but I couldn't bring myself to eating any. For lunch I'll probably have the standard hamburger patties with veggies. I know I eat that pretty often, but lately I've been satisfied with that since our bistro is using a better quality ground beef. I have tons of tuna at home so I should make myself some tuna salad tonight that I can bring to work, maybe a tuna salad sandwich for lunch tomorrow. I'm making stif fry chicken and rice for my family tonight, so I'll have to think of an alternative for me. Maybe I could stick a couple of seasoned pieces of chicken in the oven.
Back to work for me!

You work schedule sounds like what mine used to be - a slow creep up from 40 to 50+ (mine topped out at 80+ and I found another job where at least they pay me OT for over 40). It's good your DH is very supportive.
Ice Creme - I finally picked up the Breyers vanilla to try and then we made up some slenda creme brulee - so I'm waiting for a while to try the Breyers. But its sounding like once you start on the ice cream, its hard to stop.
I missed the low-carb special on FoodNetwork - I'm hoping they will replay it sometime this week. We did see Rachel Ray's low-carb 30 minute meals show and got some good ideas from it.
Keep up the good steady work...I actually had to up the volume of food in order to start losing anything (but still stay around 20 carbs/day).

Too tired to write too much so here goes...
1/6/04:
Breakfast-I know this is going to sound weird but I had two slices of salami and small cup of coffee.
Lunch-Two hamburger patties w/cheese, green beans, Crystal Light.
Dinner-I had chicken stir fry after all but no rice of course. Oh man, I don't want to post this but I must. Honesty is the best policy, right? I had a low carb chocolate-peanut butter ice cream bar. My husband asked me to get him a regular super premium no less ice cream bar from the freezer. Well, just had to have one. I felt somewhat guilty, but then again no because at least it was low carb, right? Ok, I'm trying to rationalize here, work with me people! In my defense, I ate no bread today and I managed to stay within 20-25 carbs.
As for the scale tomorrow, I'm sorry to stay I won't be able to stay off of it. I'm not ready to go cold turkey yet. Think there's a support group out there for over-weighers anonymous?

Ok, the scale didn't move this morning.:( I know, I know....I shouldn't worry about what the scale says, right? I will say that I have a better outlook today because this morning when I put on my pants, they were looser than when I last wore them about a week and a half ago. I really need to get a measuring tape. I set out to get one when I started Atkins but they ran out at my local Target and I haven't attempted to get once since. Even if I keep answering the call of the scale, I'm going to keep a positive outlook and I won't stress, at least for this week. If I haven't lost anything by Monday, I'll revisit the idea of doing induction again, but hey, I have 4 days until then.

I need to accept that the scale is not going to move exactly the same week after week. As much as I'd love for the weight to come off faster, I suppose it's better this way. Time to post my menu for yesterday.
1/7/04:
Breakfast-1 slice of toast, small cup of coffee. Lately I hadn't been eating a full breakfast due to time constraints but I know I need to do better in this area.
Lunch-Two small chicken breasts topped with cheese, green beans, sliced tomato, diet Sierra Mist.
Dinner-Ate dinner really late. I worked until 7:30 last night and DS called me right before I left to tell me that he came down with the flu, so I ran to the pharmacy and grocery store. I knew I should have picked up some Thera-Flu tablets last time because DS will NOT take liquid cold/flu meds. But I digress. I had a low carb wrap from Subway, chicken bacon. Very good! I had an Atkins Endulge candy bar for dessert, only 2 carbs.
Erin, salami didn't sound too good to me either for breakfast but I figured it was better than nothing. You ladies have taught me not to skip no matter what, so I've tried really hard to keep to that rule. My goodness, the lengths we go to to try and stay on plan!:D

I don't normally post to my journal this many times in one day, but I just have to vent! This may be long, so brace yourself if you're reading this. Let me preface by saying that I have several relatives and friends like my fellow WISHers that are on different weight loss plans, whether it be Atkins, SB, WW, etc. I've found the majority of my support here at WISH and even though I've said it before, I'll say it again, I really appreciate all of the kindness and encouragement from all of you. Now on to my story. I have a friend from work that I used to work closely with that moved to a different department over 2 years ago, but we still keep in pretty close touch and she started WW at about the same time I restarted Atkins. Anyway, to make a long story longer, when she first found out I was doing Atkins she was highly critical. I didn't really take offense to it at first and figured she was just misinformed. Many have the impression that those on Atkins are carnivors who load up on raw red meat, whole sticks of butter and a block of cheese every day. I know I'm being melodramatic, but you get the point. Anyway, I politely explained to her that while the induction phase of the plan is very strict, the process is to add carbs to one's diet little by little which includes fresh fruit, veggies, salad, so on and so on. One doesn't stay on induction forever. This is supposed to be a change in eating habits, not a fad diet. I wasn't trying to get her to convert to Atkins, just giving her the facts since she seemed to have the wrong impression. I've always fully supported her in her endeavors as I have with another close friend that I work with here in my office. Actually, what she and I eat is very similar since she keeps her carbs on the low side except that she counts points instead. Well, the latter friend got an email from the one I used to work with. In the email she asked how I was doing and the other replied that I was fine and had officially lost 40 lbs as of today and that I'm still doing Atkins. My other friend (the one I used to work with) replied back that she still thinks that I'm wrong for doing Atkins and that WW is definitely the way to go and that I'm going to gain all my weight back while they'll keep theirs off because WW is a lifestyle change. She also commented that she hasn't lost only a few pounds but I've lost way too much in too short a time. Excuse me but when I lost the most weight during the induction phase, but of course a lot of that was water. Since then I've been averaging 2 pounds per week. Those of you who keep up with my journal regularly know that it took almost two weeks to lose 1/2 a pound. When I found out what was said I was angry at first, but what it comes down to is that my feelings are hurt. What difference does it make what plan you, I or anyone else is on? Why do some people have to be so critical and tear others down? I've read up on many different plans, and I have to admit that each one has it's advantages and disadvantages. I don't think there's one out there that's perfect. It's up to the individual to decide what's best for them, their health and their circumstances. My dear friend here has never been critical and we cheer each other on, in fact we have lunch together every day. If I hadn't been planning this vacation to WDW, I never would have found WISH and all of you wonderful ladies. I've never had one negative word from any of you and I've never seen a negative comment made to anyone else here, only uplifting thoughts and comments. This journey has been made so much easier because I know that no matter what happens during the day, whether I slip up or not, someone will come around and say something kind or nudge me back on track. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.:grouphug:

You are the only one who can make lifestyle (including diet/exercise) decisions for you.
I've found a lot of people (including our doctor) who think Atkins is unhealthy. The media doesn't help the sterotype either by showing a guy eating 4 quarterpounders - no bun as a snack on Dateline NBC (yeah, he also lost 108 lbs in 10 months).
I picked up the SBD book last Monday at Costco and was surprised to find that the way I do Atkins is extremely similar to the meal plans on SBD. The biggest difference is the low-fat foods and the way you "count" or "not count" carbs. WW also has a low-carb plan. And Atkins doesn't say that you are supposed to live on butter, beef & cream alone.
I chose Atkins because it was easy to follow and I'm never ever hungry. I've know people on WW that become absolutely obsessed with food because they were always hungry!
How to handle the negativity...maybe thank her for her concern, compliment her on her efforts to lose weight, show her your meal plans (which are varied and healthy) and tell her about WISH!
But hey maybe she's just envious of your success! (I know that I wish that I could do 40 in 4 also.)
Keep up the incredible effort.

Laurie, I know of some doctors that don't agree with Atkins either. However, my personal physician is in favor of it. When I first started Atkins, I talked to my doctor about it and he did my labs as it is suggested in the book. While I've never had a problem with my cholesterol, when my labs were done again, there was no change. He mentioned that many of his patients who've done the same have actually lowered their cholesterol. My point is, my doctor has given me the green light on this and I trust his judgement.
I'd like to respond to her comments (kindly of course) but the email was to my friend about me, not to me. Lately there's been some distance between us and while I don't expect or need her to comment on my weight loss, whenever I see her she doesn't say anything and I always commend her on her progress. Oh well, I just need to get over it and I know I will, I'm just a little hurt right now but I won't hold a grudge.:D

I'd like to call and give her a piece (what little I have to spare) of my mind! Lisa, she is obviously jealous of the fantastic progress you have made. I have a friend that is doing something similar to me right now. She's on WW and started in September. She lost 13 pounds. When I started SBD in December we were at a gathering together and she noticed I was only eating the meats and cheeses (my second week on Phase I) and she asked me what plan I was doing because it looked like I had lost a few pounds. I told her it was SBD and she asked me how much I had lost and actually I was a little embarassed. I finally did tell her I lost 11 pounds. She asked how long it took me and when I told her 1 week, she almost fell on the floor!
When I see her now she looks me up and down but doesn't say much except to ask me how my diet is going like she expects me to say I've quit the diet and am on my way to a all you can eat buffet but when I try to talk to her and give her encouragement with her WW program, she changes the subject. I don't understand people sometimes.
We know the struggles you face on a daily basis to juggle your woe, family and work responsibilties. This isn't easy for any of us and I sometimes resent how people snub you when they realize you are doing low carb. One lady at my job made an unsolicited and definitely unwelcomed comment about her niece's aunt's cousin twice removed that lost 70 pounds on Atkins one summer and then had gained it all back by Christmas. These urban legends just kill me. Why do people have to be so critical? It's unbelieveable. You are doing so well - keep up the great work and instead of saying something to that co-worker, let your weight loss success and positive attitude speak for itself!!!! Take care my friend!
This is deja vu. I had a similar situation with a very dear friend. A year or so ago, my very dear friend started WW while I started Atkins. I have never heard her be so forceful about the food pyramid and she knew someone who did Atkins who doubled his weight once he stopped it, and on, and on, and on. I lost over forty pounds on it in a very short time. When I stopped into her house one afternoon, she said with horror, "You look better than me!" She did not like that one bit.
People feel so insecure. It amazes me how competitive some people can become. Weight is such a personal issue, and for many of us who have been overweight for a long time, it becomes how we identify ourselves. Your "friend", sorry to use that word, is probably feeling like a failure herself after seeing how successful you have been. I bet she feels very powerless, and the way for her to feel more powerful is to drag you down.
I hope you don't allow yourself to be too affected by this. Then she will have accomplished what she secrectly hoped to do---make herself feel better, by degrading you in some way. She must be scared out of her wits. I bet you she'll secretly do Atkins without telling anyone now.
I tried WW in between the last time I did low carb and this time. It just doesn't work for me, but nevertheless, the woman at WW was very negative about Atkins when I mentioned my success on the Atkins program. For some who are less knowlegable, it is just easier to bad mouth the competition than to accept that different plans work for different people. Your former co-worker may be hearing some of that at her meetings like I did. I hope not.
Maybe you will be able to take her envy as a serious compliment. You must be looking very good for her to get her underwear in such a knot about it.
By the way, my friend that criticized me......her husband is now on the Atkins plan.
Just want to make it clear that I am not knocking WW at all. It is a wonderful program for many, many people. Just not for me.

:sunny: :sunny: Good morning, Lisa!:sunny: :sunny:
Just wanted to say, "Yippee! You look even better in the 40 pound clippie than you did in the 35!" :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:
As far as your friend's comments. . .I know they hurt you, but some people have a very hard time watching other people succeed--it pushes all their own insecurity buttons. She also probably never dreamed in a million years that your other friend would decide to share this email with you--not that that justifies her negativity in any way.
Try to keep your chin up, Lisa. You are an incredible example of perseverence, and you've accomplished something others only dream about! All of us on the WISH have benefited from seeing you change your life. Let this incident only make you stronger in your resolve and knowledge that what you're doing for yourself is absolutely the best for YOU!

Thanks to all of you who posted about my experience yesterday. You're all wonderful and I've learned so much from you and your examples/experiences. I feel much better today, especially after reading your comments. I should have seen this situation coming because after my friend found out I was working out at LA Fitness, she told me that wasn't the place for "women like us" and that I should go to Curves like she does. I'm sure Curves is a great place and I did check into it, however it just didn't work with my schedule. I'm not sure what she meant by "women like us" but I'm assuming she maybe had some discomfort with the place because some of the people that work out there are very fit (and young)! That doesn't bother me in the least, but to each his own. Anyway, today is going to be a great day, the sun is shining outside, I feel good and I'm seeing a very productive day ahead here at work. Thanks again ladies and I'll be sure to check out your journals sometime today or tonight. Have a great day!

Lisa, I've been away from your journal for only 3 days and look at all I've missed!!
First things first!
:jumping3: 40 pounds in 4 months!!! :jumping3:
WOW!! I bet you're looking and feeling great - is that a gleam of jealousy I see in your "friend's" eye?? ;) You are looking so fabulous in that beautiful clippie!!
Now, Lisa, we must chat about your scale obsession. :D It is a proven fact that on low-carb, you generally lose EITHER inches or pounds - you almost never lose them at the same time. That's why measurements are so important - make time to buy that tape measure! The scale may stay the same for a week or two but you will lose inches. Then, your inches will stay the same for a bit and the scale will whoosh downward. That's just the way low-carb works, girlfriend, so you've got to stop letting that scale number rule your life, OK? Hang onto this concept when the scale isn't budging and you'll find it easier to keep going with a smile on your face. :sunny:
Keep up the great work, Lisa! :sunny:

Good morning gals! Yesterday was a whirlwind and I promised to get to your journals, so I'm going to get right down to business so I can go see what you've all been up to.
1/8/04
Breakfast-I'm going to try to remember what I ate. Oh, two scrambled eggs and 3 slices of bacon, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-Two hamburger patties, green beans, sliced tomato, diet Sierra Mist.
Dinner-I wasn't very hungry so I had a leftover roast beef, Fuze fruit drink and low carb ice cream bar for dessert.
1/9/04:
Breakfast-Two slices of low carb toast, small cup of coffee. Hmmm, I've been having a lot of coffee lately. Wouldn't have noticed if I didn't journal.
Lunch-Two hamburger patties (again), broccoli, diet Sierra Mist. The only reason I keep having the hamburger patties is because I'm not planning ahead. They have salads in the bistro where I work but they're expensive and lately I've been wanting a hot meal for lunch. I'm going to have to strategize.
Dinner-Hubby called late yesterday afternoon and ran into some old friends of our that we haven't seen in ages and they invited us out dancing. I didn't have time to eat dinner. I have nothing at home that fits properly, except 2 outfits, so I ran to the mall to pick something up. Of course I got sidetracked at Bath and Body Works since they were having a 75% sale. Ran home, showered, changed and ran out the door with hubby and went straight to the club. Didn't have dinner until 2:00 a.m. I had a tuna sandwich on whole wheat but took off the top piece of bread.
Incidentally, two my friends are on a weight loss plan and one has lost a lot of weight doing low carb and she looks wonderful. The other is doing Atkins as well but is still on induction. It was funny because the 3 of us gave the waiter a hard time ordering our food. The restaurant wasn't very low carb friendly, so we had to ask for substitutions which seemed to irritate him. Had a great evening and got in plenty of exercise witht he dancing. Boy am I out of shape because I sure felt the burn in my thighs! We went out salsa dancing and it was a blast.
I've gone on too long. I'm off the start reading your journals. Have a great weekend everyone.:D

Salsa dancing!! What a great way to exercise! Sounds like a lot more fun than walking on the treadmill!! :p I bet you looked great and felt lots better dancing with 40 pounds less of you!!
Glad to hear you had a great time! :sunny:
I want to read more about the outfit, and how great it was to be out and about with your friends.
Sounds like a good evening. I have only seen salsa dancing on tv, and I congratulate you for being able to do it.

Hi Lisa!
I forgot to congratulate you on your beautiful 40 pound clippie! It looks marvelous on you!
You are a salsa dancer? How wonderful! I would love to be able to do that. I bet you had a ball - what a great way to get in some exercise.
I noticed you said you had an ice cream bar the other day, may I ask what type it was? I was looking in the grocery store last week for something acceptable and couldn't find anything. The lc items were all too high in calories.
I hope you are having a good start to your week. Take care!

Here we are, another Monday. Last week just flew by and I'm hoping I can cruise through this week too. I've got two days worth of menus to post, hope I can remember everything I ate.
1/10/04:
Breakfast-Slept in and jumped out of bed and went straight to work, so forgot to bring anything with me. It was too late to eat anyway.
Lunch-Bologna sandwich, small cup of coffee.
Dinner-Went out to dinner with hubby and the kiddos to a soup/salad bar. Ate a small salad, 1/3 cup of lentil soup; had a mini blueberry muffin for dessert; iced tea.
1/11/04:
Breakfast-Hubby and I went out for breakfast while the boys slept in. Went to Hometown Buffet. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, 1/2 cup of oatmeal and 1/2 cup of milk, water. Had a very small piece of sugar free chocolate cream pie but didn't touch the crust. That breakfast took up my whole day's carbs!:(
Lunch-Wasn't feeling very well. I'm pretty sure I caught the flu from my son but since I had the flu shot, I got a pretty mild case. I napped most of the afternoon so slept through lunch.
Dinner-This is pretty pathetic: I had two hot dogs (no bun) and a Fuze fruit drink. I just wasn't in the mood to make myself anything else to eat.
Doreen, I did feel a lot better without those 40 lbs! I remember going out dancing some time in July right before I started eating right and I felt awful and very akward with all that weight on me.
A, I wore a black velour top with a plunging neckline and a black and berry-colored skirt, you know the ones that are uneven in the hemline (skirt is kind of hard to describe). I've worn it once before to a wedding I went to last month. We did have great fun and hubby and I are thinking about taking lessons. I grew up dancing salsa, it's in practically in our blood (I'm Puerto Rican, he's Cuban). We want to take lessons to learn the more complex turns. It's a great form of exercise and I highly recommend it.
Laurie, my husband loves to dance! That's one of the things that attracted me to him when we met. We have many fond memories of our evenings out salsa dancing. BTW, tomorrow is our anniversary, 15 years married.
Lisa, the ice cream bar I had is called Skinny Cow. They come in both low fat and low carb versions and they're pretty good. I don't know if you have Ralph's grocery chain in your area but that's where I buy them.
Thanks for posting everyone, have a great week!:D

I'm going over the the vacation planning section, so my time here will be short.
1/12/04:
Breakfast-Two slices of low carb toast, small cup of coffee. Brewed a pot of Starbuck's for the office this morning. Boy that coffee was good!
Lunch-Two small chicken breasts, broccoli, sliced tomato, diet Sierra Mist.
Dinner-I made spaghetti and roasted garlic flatbread for hubby and the kids. My kitchen was smelling sooo good. I had a teeny tiny piece of the flat bread, two slices of ham rolled with a spinach/cream cheese spread, diet Coke. Haven't had dessert yet but I'll be having an Atkins Endulge bar.
I'm off for some trip planning. Have a good evening everyone, I'll check out your journals tomorrow.:D

I came back because I forgot to post something. I've been going back and forth with my goals along the way and I'm making a new one again. My goal for the end of January is to get down to 179. That's 4 pounds and just under 3 weeks left for this month. I'd reaaaaly like to reach 174 by the end of February and then I can get my 50 lb. clippie!:hyper:

:wave2: Lisa,
You've been a busy beaver posting haven't you? I noticed you said you are spending time on the planning board (I need to do that too). Do you have a Disney trip coming up in your future? I'm planning a long weekend for either sometime in May or June.
I think taking salsa dancing lessons sounds wonderful. DH and I plan on hosting a formal for our anniversary next fall ('05) and I would love to dazzle our guests with a salsa routine. It probably won't happen but I could look into taking lessons for me DH, thanks for the idea!
I saw those skinny cow ice cream treats in the grocery store but the only ones I saw had over 100 calories. We are only allowed 75 calories for dessert but I will keep on looking - I need a change from the ff fudgesicles. Since it's so cold here, I may try sf hot chocolate.
Happy anniversary to you and your DH!!!!!! In this day and age 15 years is an accomplishment.
Your goal sounds reachable to me. I am hoping to lose 5.5 pounds by the end of this month to reach my first goal so let's see if we can do it together! I know that 50 pound clippie will look so good on you.

15 years is a big milestone - Congratulations!
(DH and I made 15 years last April also.)
I think you can make your goals easily - just don't stop eating enough to get there.
-Laurie
It is absolutely amazing to me that you could make a meal like spaghetti and roasted garlic flatbread and turn to ham. That is so great. I can't cook things that I can't eat. It is too much temptation for me. Maybe things might be different for me now, but I don't know.
Great job!!!!
It is marvelous that you have lost this amount of weight. I marvel at the number. I am hoping to be following in your footsteps soon. I hope you reach your goal of 50 pounds by the end of the month.
I'll catch up with you later.

You're doing great, Lisa! I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to learn salsa or any other type of dancing, so I'm very impressed with your dancing abilities!! I think lessons sound like a lot of fun and a great way to spend quality time with your DH!
Good luck in meeting your goal for the end of January! It sounds like a reasonable goal - a few extra hours of dancing will take that weight right off. Maybe you should put salsa music on while you're cleaning and dance your way around the house!!

Looks like several of us are on the boards right now trying to catch up with each other.:D
Lisa, I've been trying really hard to make entries to my journal on a daily basis, but it's a challenge.
Fifteen years is a long time when I think about it. It hasn't always been a bed or roses but we've hung in there and seemed to have reached that leveling off point. We're looking forward to spending more time together as the kids get older and become more independent.
And yes, we are planning a trip to WDW for August, our first one! Our plans are to fly out on 8/13, spend the night near MCO so that we can head out bright and early to our "real hotel" the BC (that's if I don't change my mind on resorts again). We'll be at Disney for 9 days, 4 days at Universal and 4 days in Miami. I've gotten most of the planning out of the way but have a few things that have yet to be done. Right now I'm at the stage of buying clothes for hubby and the kids looking for new luggage.
Your goal sounds reasonable too; we can do this!:D
Laurie, I'm struggling a little trying to make sure I eat my 3 squares every day, but I'm hanging in there.
Thanks for mentioning my anniversary. We had planned on going out last night but both of us are under the weather. We made reservations for a japanese restaurant for Saturday and might go out dancing just the two of us.
A, it's not easy to be around food I'm not supposed to eat, it's very tempting. I've just resigned myself to the fact that I can't always expect that my family eat the way I do, although my middle and youngest child have gotten pudgy due to all the TV and video games. I'm going to talk to their pediatrician about it and will definitely be making some modifications to my grocery shopping list.
Doreen, I noticed you're on the boards right now along with me. You must be on your lunch break.
Thanks for the vote of confidence for my goal for this month. I forgot to post my weight on Monday, official weigh in but I'm hanging steady at 183. I'm ok with that though, so we'll see what happens next week.
Deb, thanks for checking on me. I'm looking forward to losing the next 10 lbs!:hyper:

I'm rush, rush, rushing this morning here at work but I remembered I haven't posted menus for the last two days.
1/13/04
Breakfast-Two scrambled eggs, 3 bacon, 1 sausage, coffee.
Lunch-Taco salad, diet Sierra Mist.
Dinner-Two ham rolls with cream cheese, diet Coke. I wasn't that hungry after the big lunch I had. Had low carb vanilla ice cream topped with strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!
1/14/04
Breakfast-One slice of low carb toast w/bologna, small cup of coffee.
Lunch-Roast pork, broccoli, Crystal Light.
Dinner-Two scrambled eggs with two fried hot dogs (no bun), diet Coke. Vanilla ice cream for dessert.
I weighed this morning. Hey, I'm not weighing as much as last week. Baby steps remember? Anyway, I'm down almost a pound, I'm 1 oz. away from 182.
Breakfast is going to be a challenge this morning, maybe I'll go up and get some cottage cheese and fruit if I have time.
