I have been on Atkins for almost 3 months and loving it (28 lbs).
So, my boss decided to give it a try. She has been on it since last Monday (10 days) and says she still feels awful. She is tired all the time and feels blah.
How long did this last for any of you? I felt great by about day 4 or 5 so I don't know what to tell her. I did ask last week if she is getting enough carbs and she says she has picked it up to about 20 per day. She also said she is having constant heartburn.
Any ideas?

It depends on how long it takes your body to rid itself of all those yucky sugars, starches, and preservatives! Induction is a "cleansing" of all that stuff from your body.
And, on top of having to cleanse itself, it also goes through "withdrawl" because it's used to having the sugars (i.e., cereal or bagel in the morning, sugar in the coffee, bread with lunch, pasta at dinner, candy bar for a pick-me-up in the afternoon, etc, etc.)
Tell her to just give it time - it will eventually go away and she will feel GREAT in no time!!

The other thing I'd ask her is whether she's getting enough water and enough fat! I think that not getting enough of both of these are common mistakes we all make when we start Atkins.

I felt yucky through the whole 2 week indution process. I still don't have lots of energy like everyone else seems to but at least I don't feel so bad anymore. I started induction on 7/16 am trying to stay under 20g of carbs for as long as i can to get the weight off faster.
I felt pretty lousy right up through day 9 or 10, but I wasn't eating more than about 3-4 carbs per day. Once I added a bit more I felt better.
Last weekend I had more carbs than any 3 people should have, and when I started back on Atkins I got that splitting headache again. It only lasted a day but it really was a powerful reminder of how different it feels to be eating high protien/low carb.

I felt really bad on Day 4 and 5, but by Day 6 I was much better and haven't felt bad since! :) I do find that if I cheat and eat something with sugar, I get a nice little headache to go along with it!
I agree though, just tell her to give it some more time! :)

Day one was terrible for me. I thought I would cry. I had nightmares as well. After day two I was OK. I am on day 5 now, and I feel great. I have also lost 5 lbs :Pinkbounc

Induction followed correctly may cause the body to release fluids and with that, potassium. I felt awful during induction especially when I climbed the stairs. I added a potassium pill to my vitamins in the morning and it did the trick well.

I felt bad for no more than a week. Either 6-7 days. I can't remember for sure- but definitely not more than that.
It really might have to do with what they are doing while on induction. If her symptoms don't get better soon- it might be another culprit and not just doing true induction.
For instance I have seen many times on other boards (lowcarb boards and such) where someone is feeling this way and come to find out they were doing something wrong.
Like eating foods that were causing them the discomfort (which might be perfectly legal on induction but for their body causes them some problems- like dairy intolerant eating cheese- things like that).
Or not drinking enough water.
Or not taking vitamin supplements.
Or not eating enough veggies or too much of one product that ends up making them feel icky without them realizing that's what is causing it.
Or not getting enough sleep -maybe they need more than they used to? I do... and when I don't get more than I used to- I don't feel as good the next day and I also don't lose weight at all or gain. :(
etc.
Lots of things could be going on. But if they are doing EVERYTHING right by Atkins induction standards and their own body's standards... then the "blah" feelings and heartburn should let up pretty soon I would think. :)

Can anyone help me please ?
I am on day 8 of Atkins now.
I had the headache from hell for the first 2 days and felt OK until today.
I feel a bit rough and have another headache.
However I haven't slept well the last 3/4 nights . Normally I sleep through no problem but recently i have needed to go to the toilet 3/4 times a night. I think I read somewhere the Atkins is a diuretic........does anyone know if that's the problem?
Could I be de-hydrated.........sick of water.........
