Hello all,,,,DH and I will be on the cruise with you for a belated 50th B-day for me. We went last year with 16 family members for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and decided we liked it enough to go by ourselves. We are in "secret porthole" room #5520 - chosen because of its proximity to the forward lifts....although I wouldn't mind an upgrade;) .
We are also veterans of the "Big Red Boat" and have been on about 10 cruises including the QEII in 1980. We REALLY enjoyed the Disney Wonder and can't wait to get on the Magic in 2004.
I will be checking back every few weeks to see what's going on with "our" group.
Let the party begin:jester: !!!!

Alright!!!!
We have been on DISBoards for awhile and just this morning saw the link to Cruise Meets.
This is great.
Our family (me, DW and DD(4)) will be on the 11/13/04 Magic Eastern and can't wait.
We just came back from a week at WDW and really enjoy what Disney is able to provide.
This will be the first cruise for my DW and DD and the third for me. Previously, I have been twice on the Big Red Boat (back then, I think it was even called Premier Cruise LInes).
We will be celebrating a belated 10th wedding anniversary (it's actually in September) and are looking forward to a wonderful cruise.
We'll keep checking back on these boards and can't wait to go!!!!

Should be interesting with three little Disney Princesses in tow, I will love every minute of it! This past cruise I met some great DISers and I am sure this cruise will be the same. Greetings, All!
We are booked for our first cruise, 11/13/04! We were to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but sadly, my DH passed away this July.
My four dd's (3, 6, 10 12 at time of cruise) decided they wanted to keep our plans as Daddy would have wanted. So.... we'll be sailing our first cruise in the Roy Disney Suite!!
Thanks to GrayFal for pm'ing me and alerting me to this thread. We were on Marco Island, FL for Thanksgiving, then went to Disney for the week after. Then it was rushing to ready for the holiday, which were little more than bearable this year.
I wish you all a peaceful new year and look forward to getting to know you and finally meeting you in less than a year!! OH.. we will be spending time at WDW before we set sail. The specific plan isn't made yet, but we will be there! (Have to get our $$ out of the passes, 'ya know! ;) )

Keeps the thread alive and lets us get to know one another!

I was just chatting with KY and Hannosmom on AOL IM. Even though we are a small group so far, we are friendly.....LOL .
..
So sorry to hear of your loss...but glad that you and all those DD's are going to come on the cruise. I suspect you have many wonderful memories but having new happy ones are good, too.
As we go along, hopefully we will learn more about each other....KY is updating his first post as people sign on so we will have an onging tally of our 'crew'. The one thing I notice is that this seems to be a "Princess" dominated group so far......which fits in well with your family!:jester:
Thanks again for answering your pm.......

We are flying out of Boston on Delta's Song, but the earliest that we could get to MCO on Saturday morning was 11:44. My sister called DCL and they said that as long as we were scheduled to arrive before noon we should be all set. Here's to hoping that they are right! Mom and Dad can get to the port early and make our ressies, so we should be OK. It seems real now....

I have my airfare, too:wave2:!
We are using FF miles as we are going to be in Aruba the week before...look for us, we will be the suntanned, relaxed looking ones! Because we are comming from out of the country, we will arrive the night before....I was going to priceline a room at the airport, but I saw a post that people are getting MCO Hyatt for $25+fees=$34 thru Hotwire...when I checked with HW for our dates it was $62.(edited to add apparently this was a 'fluke' and the rate was only available for about 12 hours....so I might go the priceline route or book directly)
I think I will keep my eye on that rate to come down. Since we arrive at MCO around 8, it would be sooooo convenient to just drop off our bags, grab a rental car, go to Downtown Disney for a late supper and become "Disney-fied":jester:!!!
I want to be able to stop at the market on the way to the port - return the rental car and be at the dock by 11ish......
....and thanks to these boards, I have booked a day room at the Hyatt for after the cruise - $60 - with a 10 a.m. check-in, 6 p.m. check-out for our 6:50 flight back to NY...DISers are the GREATEST!!!!
auntie, several of us have been chatting via AOL IM - pm me if you want to be added to our "DIS Cruiser" IM group.......

01-03-2004, 12:19 PM
oh! I am so Jealous!!! I want my airfare now!!!!
We fly out of Manchester NH, and the only one with a direct flight is Southwest. I probably won't be able to get my tickets until the summer! :(
Oh well, It's something else to look forward to I guess.
We are going to be going down on the Thursday before our cruise. We don't really know where we are staying or what we are doing since we can't seem to make up our minds. We WANT to do Seaworld (in theory) since we love it and it's been a while, but on the other hand, can we really be in Florida and not visit Disney?? We have almost decided to stay at the Pop Century and decide later what park we will go to....
(Its not like we won't have time to decide later!:D
disneydreamer1970
01-03-2004, 01:18 PM
Feenie,
We are planning on flying Southwest out of Manchester, NH as well. If all goes well, we are going to fly out on Wednesday morning and stay at AKL for a couple of nights so that our DD can get her Disney Fix!
Guess I will be waiting for that airfare with you!!!!
GrayFal
01-03-2004, 08:10 PM
It is so exciting to see everyones' plans coming together...but it makes it 'real' when you get those plane tickets! I believe Hannosmom is also waiting for Southwest.
Does everyone know that the lowest fares on the Southwest website are Tuesday thru Thursday? And that they go up on Friday and then down again on Tuesday>>>>> And that if you don't see the lowest fare available, wait and try agian later the same day...many times they open up more lower fare seats later in the day ...or night.
:jester: I love this little guy!:jester:

Hey,
I don't have AOL IM, I guess I am not that computer advanced yet!
In November we also flew out of Manchester, NH, but I flew Delta with a connection. It wasn't bad, and I got a rate of $170 pp. Couldn't pass that up. I don't fly Southwestern because I hate the "cattle call" to board, and I can't wait until 4 months out. I guess I am anal like that. I like to have all my chickens in a row...that is why I booked as soon as I could (331 days out)...Plus, traveling with three little ones, I wanted to make sure we got seated together.

Magical Changes Aboard the Disney Magic Ship

Ah, if only we could dash off for another week on the Disney Magic! The ship returned from dry dock late last fall sporting a net-full of refurbished and re-purposed guest areas. The folks at Disney Cruise Line were good enough to show us around the ship one Saturday in November while it was docked in Port Canaveral, and we were very impressed with what we saw. The overall effect of these changes is a ship that is much friendlier for adults and teens, with no negative impact on its family- and child-friendliness.
The headline changes can be found right at the top, on decks 9 and 11. Disney has pulled the old switcheroo – the space that had been the ESPN Skybox, at the top of the forward "smokestack," has been converted into the new teen club, The Stack. In return, adults get two newly-refurbished spaces – the teens’ old Common Grounds lounge on deck 9 is now the Cove Café, and Off Beat, the dueling pianos bar on deck 3 has had a complete makeover into Diversions, a sports pub. The cruise line has also made some subtler changes to the Promenade Lounge on deck 3, and has added two sales offices for the Disney Vacation Club. Now, here are the details:
The Stack
Disney and its passengers learned that the original teen-only lounge, Common Grounds, wasn’t nearly large enough to provide a good home to the ship’s teen population. The lounge itself was very attractive and comfy, with a coffee bar, Internet terminals, projection TV, a great jukebox, and lots of cushy seating for reading, board games, or just hanging out. Dance? No floor space. Party? Much too small. Further, with no windows or glass doors, the room felt like a cave during the daylight hours. All too often, this meant the teen population just skipped Common Grounds altogether, and hung-out wherever they could.
The Stack changes all that. The former ESPN Skybox has been restyled, and offers much more space for the kind of activities teens want. The makeover is mostly cosmetic. The bar is still there, but naturally only serves non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. The big screen TVs are also all present, but they’re more likely to be showing music videos than sporting events. The main room is filled with small, round tables that can easily be moved aside for dancing and other group activities, and the ceiling drips with the lighting equipment required by a good dance club. The décor now sports bold splashes of color, gleaming stainless steel, and a mirrored wall draped with gauze curtains. The adjoining room, formerly filled with bleacher seats for watching the big game, now sports an open floor plan, with Internet terminals lining the walls. Plenty of sunlight pours in during the daytime. While we’re not teens, it’s clear to us that this should be a big improvement for everyone.
Cove Café
We smiled broadly when we entered the new Cove Café. Located on deck 9 right next to the adults-only Quiet Cove pool, Cove Café has helped turn the entire adults-only area into a whole new world. First, DCL took out the blow torches, and started cutting holes in the steel walls of the former Common Grounds teen lounge. A new, glass automatic double door opens right into the pool area, adjacent to the Signals bar. A new, second door lets in even more light on the lounge’s port side wall. To top it off, they added two large round windows. The overall effect is wonderful, creating a space that’s a daytime delight. You can now walk right in from poolside into the air conditioned space and take a seat at the comfortable bar, curl up with a book or magazine, or log onto the Internet. Amazingly, much of the décor hasn’t changed from when the teens owned this turf. The warm woods, Italianate plaster crown moldings, black stone bar-top and earth-tone upholstery exude the relaxed, cosmopolitan feel of the ship’s reservation-only restaurant, Palo and are much better suited to adults than teens. Cove Café is open from 10:00 am to Midnight. You can enjoy gourmet coffees and teas, cocktails, sandwiches, and desserts while you socialize, read, or watch TV. What’s more, they even have robes and slippers, for the ultimate in luxurious lounging. Out on deck, as a special added touch, they’ve erected a deck-to-ceiling, frosted glass privacy screen that clearly marks the beginning of "grown-up country." You’re really entering another world when you leave the Goofy Pool behind.
Diversions
Disney Cruise Line also brought their blow torches and decorating staff down to deck 3 forward. Off Beat, part of the Beat Street adult entertainment district, began as a comedy club, and switched over to a dueling pianos bar. While both entertainment options had their followings, the room was never really a hit. Well, the old décor is gone, the stage has been ripped out to reveal large, round windows, and DCL has brought in more of its characteristic Italian-style wood paneling, lots of stylishly comfortable seating, luxurious board game tables, and big, flat-screen TVs. Disney calls Diversions a "pub," but there’s nothing English about it. Those big windows now make this a very appealing daytime space. Operating hours vary (check your onboard Navigator), and it’s open to all ages until 9:00 pm, after which it’s adults only. This room takes over the ESPN Skybox’s turf for the big sporting events, but they’ve installed special air filtering equipment to keep the air fresh for the non-smokers in the family (smoking is allowed at the bar only; no cigars or pipes allowed). There’s still a full bar in the back of the room, and a Pub Master is on hand to host sporting events, trivia contests, piano sing-alongs, and talent contests. The checkers/chess/backgammon tables are especially appealing to us – we can’t wait to try them out.
Promenade Lounge
Unheralded in Disney’s press releases are a couple of smaller changes. The Promenade Lounge on deck 3 midship (between Parrot Cay and Lumiere’s), has been changed to greatly improve guest traffic flow in and out of the space. Previously, this long, narrow lounge could only be entered on the two extreme ends. Low, decorative railings separated the lounge from the adjoining main hallway, creating major bottle-necks when large numbers of guests arrived for entertainment events and the occasional bingo game. A relatively small change has wrought a major improvement here. A small stage (usually occupied by a two-piece band) that had been located halfway along the hallway railing has been moved to the opposite (inside) wall. Then, rather than keep things fenced-in, the railing in the old stage area was removed, affording much easier access to the heart of the lounge, and making the entire area feel much more airy. Meantime, the seats were reupholstered, making a subtle change to the room’s appearance.
Sounds like really nice changes.......

Good job, feenie! I was thinking this would be one empty ship....LOL.
I can't wait to see all of the princesses in their gowns - I think that is a very cute idea for formal night.
We are getting near the 300 day mark for our embarkment....just around the corner:yo-yo:
I picked up some bargains at the disneystore.com sale, so DH and I will be appropriately attired.:jester:

Favorite Auntie, After I read your post about discount dresses, I went straight to the web site. Not one dress to be found!! They have a few knit skater dresses, but that's it!! And nothing in stock for me. :( At least on sale stuff.
So, here's my question: We're sailing in November, but we're goin' to be where the water's warm, so.... what 'season' shall I dress my dd's in? White shoes, summer (formal) dress or black shoes and really formal? If it helps, their ages at time of cruise will be 3, 6, 11, 12. (The 11 yo will turn 11 on the cruise!) The eldest says she'd rather skip dinner than put a dress on. I believe her. But, what mama says, goes. :smooth:
Any thoughts?

WOW!!! I have been reading the boards for a while but just registered and found this thread. Much to my surprise... there were people out there that was just as excited about the trip as we are! :Pinkbounc I didn't think it was possible.:hyper:
So, to update the guest list...
My family (Me, Husband, 2 boys)
My brothers family (w/2 Kids)
My dad and stepmom
My mother in law and father in law
My sister in law, her husband and daughter
My other sister in law's mom and dad
My aunt
My brother's friend (w/2 kids)
By the way, here are the prices we got. How do they compare with some of the other prices that you've found?
Cat 11 797.35
Cat 8 997.35
Cat 6 1247.35
--These are per adult--
Just wondering! We did qualify for group rates by booking so many rooms. Every bit helps!!::yes::

I will be hapy to ask KY to add you to our first post but first,,,,I am going to grill you....LOL.
So tell me, you, DH and what are the ages of your sons at the time of the cruise .....and are you celebrating anything special.
Then, your brother - does he have a DW? age of kids at cruise time and special occasion celebration......
Then, your Ddad and Dstep-mom....ages (kidding!) special occasion.....
I think you are getting the picture:Pinkbounce: :bounce: :yo-yo:
As for prices...since everyone has booked at differnt times and different categories...it is hard to compare....
Some of us have been chatting via AOL IM:chat: ....so let us know if you want the IM's names of those participating or if you would like an invite........

Ok....starting from the top
Me and DH w/2 boys (then ages 7 & 4)
Brother & SIL w/DD (age 5) and DS (age 4)
SIL & BIL w/DD (age 8)
Brothers friend w/DW and 2 girls (ages 4 & 5)
as for the others and there ages.... All I need to say is that they do not qualify for the senior discount, yet! :teeth:
I used to have an AIM name but I will have to sign up again. I will let you know when I do that.
My travel agent called DCL today and they are extending the other rooms we have for another month!! :bounce: That means that we can have even more people go!! Yes, there are some people that we know that ISN'T going! :rotfl: We have checked the Disney Cruise site for the most current prices and it seems that they have gone up a bit from what we have on hold now. I love finding a good deal.
Anyone find a great rental car rate from the Port to the airport on the return?
The other thing that I was looking for is some info on was Insurance. We found the trip assist through Access America was the best buy so far. Kids are free under that plan. Anyone else have info?:jester:

A Big Welcome, Cjsmom97! :sunny: In relation to the DIS, I guess you can say we're next door neighbors!
Glad you found us here, and happy to hear about your great deals! Makes the vacation that much more magical. You've got quite a crew coming along. Most of them from around our neck of the woods? The COLD neck? :p
Is this your first cruise? Are you going to spend time at WDW before or after our cruise? Driving or flying south?
You asked about car rentals. With the size group you have, I'd look into a livery service that perhaps has vans or large limos. Compare that to the car rental.
Hope you have fun here on the DIS! Lots of friendly people, more information than you could process!

Thanks everyone!! pirate:
Yes, we are all from these **brrrr** parts. All but my SIL's parents are still living in the area. They have retired to North Carolina.
For the most part, it will be the first cruise for everyone (except my dad and step-mom and my aunt)
We plan on doing WDW for the week following the cruise. My aunt has a timeshare and has invited us to stay. :bounce:
We are flying down the day before the cruise to get a little more rest before the day of the cruise. We have rented a condo on the beach for the night (another great deal).:earseek:
We only need 3 rental cars for the ride back to Orlando and one of them is a minivan. The best rates I can find for the minivan is 69.46 (with the taxes and fees) through Budget. The best I could find for National was 70.41. We have already booked the other 2 cars (full size) through National for 36.06 (with fees). Both have unlimited mileage. I have played with all kind of codes, so much that I have started going crosseyed!!
If someone sees something better (especially for the minivan), please let me know!! We have seen specials for 34.99 but the dates don't apply or there is a 3 day minimum.
We are trying to keep all of our costs to a minimum on things like rentals. We are hoping to start construction of our new home next spring so if we can cut a few corners on the trip, it sure would help. :teeth:

Should we start to "sign" our posts so that our cruise mates can get to know our names? We did this on the post for my last cruise and it was great to know everyone name!

I don't know if we can make it either!!!!!! We live on the NH/VT boarder about 1/2 way up the state in Haverhill. We used to live down in southern NH, but we wanted to get away from all the congestion down there, (and I wanted to get a little farther away from my MIL;) ).

Tink, sorry to have missed you Friday! We always have a nice time while chatting.
I don't know that you missed any good information. We're getting to know each other a bit....nice to have friends before you board. Food always comes up, as well as excursion info. We also discussed who will be where before the trip. Maybe a mini pre-board breakfast or something.
Hope to see you next chat!!

Howdy, all!
Long time, no hear!
Sorry I missed chatting Friday. I had some more family over discussing options for our trip. By the way, we have added two more people on today!
My TA has asked if I wanted a job! :rotfl:
Also, 3 of our rooms has added on the Romantic Escape package (as surprises). Boy, was that worth it!!! We have also reserved the private room in Palo, The Wine Room, for us to enjoy a private dinner. :cool1:
Booking the spa in advance was great, too! Having this group reservation seems to have opened up quite a few doors for us as well, but they have asked that I not give away ALL the secrets. :grouphug:
I told the family that was over Friday, that they need to all get together and get me a gift for all that I have done to get them where they are. :boat:
But those Disney dollars sure are racking up! :earsboy: I have been putting the deposit on my Disney Visa so they could give me the money the next time I seen them and good thing. Does anyone know what the policy is for using your rewards card onboard? Since it is treated like cash, can I put it towards my room charges?
Best get back to work, chat with you all soon.

Hi everyone! DH had his wisdom teeth out today so I am home for the next couple of days playing nursemaid. I have a feeling it will get old pretty quick. The doctor said he was probably going to get pretty uncomfortable since it was not an easy extraction. Fortunalty I have two little helpers in orange bottles to help keep him pacified!!! Well, at least they won't hurt him on the cruise.
It is sad that every medical decision we are making these days revolves around November! They hurt him ONE weekend, and then he decides they need to come out NOW! He didn't want to deal with pain on the cruise.;)
Stupid me forgot to tape "According to Jim". We went to a board meeting and I totally spaced that I had not set up my vcr. It's not a show we regularly watch, but if they are going to show OUR ship....!
(in case you couldn't tell, I am lonely! DH is not much on conversation at the moment!!):D

My mother has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and they are not able to operate (they tried, but it was too big and could not remove it). As such, all of our vacation plans have been put on hold and we will, unfortunately, be cancelling our cruise soon and planning a different family vacation.
It has been a pleasure chatting with all and getting excited for the cruise. Perhaps in the future we will cross paths again.......
