We would love to meet him at WDW. Does anyone know if he is joining the other face characters there?

I only want to meet Captain Jack Sparrow if he is the real thing!!

Hellooooo Johnny!!!!!;)

Yep, I think there's little chance he'll be around because it would be too disappointing that it wasn't the REAL Jack Sparrow! :p

and we enjoy the WDW Mary Poppins even though she is not Julie Andrews. So come on, Imagineers, imagine hiring a Jack Sparrow for us!

IMHO, I think they will HAVE to address this due to the success of the film! I do think it will take some time to make up costumes and audition CM's to fit the role, but I'm betting there would be several male CM's who would love to step into that role! Natt

I think I'd be really disappointed in a CM Capt. Jack Sparrow that didn't portray him just like Johnny Depp. And who else but Johnny Depp could have done Capt. Jack Sparrow the way he did. The man was incredible !!!!

I understand that people aren't disappointed that the Mary Poppins character isn't Julie Andrews......but there really isn't any comparison. The character of Mary Poppins is easy to duplicate.

Jack Sparrow's mannerisms, walk, and speech took a lot of imagination and creativity by Johnny Depp. I don't think anyone could duplicate it.

But of course, this is just my humble opinion. :D :D

than no, er, bird. Anyway, the broad gestures and mannerisms would be easy to imitate, if not duplicate.

I agree, Johnny Depp did such a great job creating such an eccentric character, but the mannerisms, etc. actually could be picked up by someone else. It's not like Orlando Bloom's subtle Will Turner...in that case, you'd just have to have Orlando Bloom at the parks.
Hey, don't you think Johnny and Orlando in person would give park attendance a lift during off-peak seasons??!?!:smooth:

but having them as face characters might be even better, because we could actually meet and greet them. And I agree that Orlando's gestures are much more subtle and harder to imitate--remember, Orlando imitated Johnny in the movie itself.

Well girls, I'd have to say that the harsh reality is that Johnny Depp would NOT come to WDW to do character greetings! I think we just need to put faith in Disney that they will do their best to find a match. My guess too, is that a "fake" Jack could vamp a bit better for photos - I don't think the "real" Jack (aka; Johnny) would work the camera unless it's for publicity photos!

well since they have no merchadise for the movie, anywhere, i doubt we'll be seeing any jack sparrows around the parks. Arrrrgggg.

Yeah, what's up with that? Since when doesn't Disney market the heck out of a movie?

You guys are making me jealous! Johnny has been my boyfriend since 21 Jumpstreet and he's mine!

Okay, in my real life, I think it would be cool if they had a a few of the pirates characters from POTC/COTBP!

So, where were you when he was in "Nightmare on Elm Street"? ;)

Word has it in a Depp interview that the Disney "suits" were unhappy with his Jack Sparrow portrayal. I don't think they would have a lecherous, drunken pirate as a WDW character. ! Johnny said that is how he knew his character was a winner, when the upper management didn't like it!!:p

I wonder if the lack of merchandising has anything to do with the fact that this is Disney's first PG-13 movie and they weren't marketing it as much towards kids? They could do some cool hologram-type toys that would look like the skeletons when you turned them one way, and their (somewhat) normal self the other.

and Jack Sparrow has done that for them. Besides, I didn't see him as drunken or lecherous--just foppish, in the 18th century style.

We went looking for POTC merchandise in the Disney Store ( I wanted a copy of the soundtrack) and we were told by the CM that they were not stocking it as it was a PG13 film.

I agree, Capt Jack Sparrow was just superb. We have been copying his actions for days now..:-)

Is Jack actually over by the POTC ride for the meet & greets, and was he at the halloween party last night (other than in the parade)? My younger DD is going as his "mini me" for the Party on the 5th, and would love to have her photo taken with him. Heck, after seeing the pictures here, I might have mine taken too ;). Seriously though, we have the costume made already, and my older DD is trying her best to teach her "the walk".

I read most of these replies without looking at the date. For a moment, I thought I was reading a joke thread. :p

And it always reminds me what interesting "theories" you get from Disney Store employees. I one time asked a DS employee if they had any Villains merch, to which she replied, "Of course not! They're mean! We don't carry items with mean characters."

I had a HARD time holding my tongue in that instance.

:rotfl: I did the same thing!!

I thought people were being sarcastic when discussion started about not carrying any merchandise in the parks!!

Thats weird, I have worked for the Disney Store for 9 years and going....we have tons of Pirtates merchandise. Backpacks, lunchtotes, beach towels kids and adult t-shirts..2 new adult t's that actually have Johnnny Depp's picture on them action figures, ipod pillow, halloween costumes, pirates waseven a featured window with netting etc..for 2 weeks, we even displayed the movie poster for over a month and we have the CD soundtrack.....I don't know why that CM would tell you that. I guess its like Disney World no two CM give you the same answer lol

We saw 'Captain Jack' outside pirates. His voice and mannerisms were superb. I could have taken him home (LOL!) He looked very realistic.

There's an absolute mountain of POTC merchandise in our local Disney Store!! Even Jack Sparrow dolls.

No substitute for the real thing, though ;)
