Distances at Discovery Cove

I had posted this on the DISabilities Board, but nobody seems to have been to Discovery Cove. Just popping it over here in the hope somebody can help me. :D




I'm just wondering whether to take my ECV to Discovery Cove or whether to reserve one of their wheelchairs?

Has anyone been there at all?

I can walk short distances but I'm wondering just how spread out Discovery Cove is, especially the Aviary walk?

I would rather get myself around in the ECV I'm hiring (first time) but wonder if I could just get by using a wheelchair as and when I need it, to save the hassle of dismantling the EVC to get it into the Towncar etc. I wouldn't mind being 'pushed around' just for a short hop, but if there are quite large distances to cover I would rather us the ECV.

Any advice or tips would be brilliant!

You'll want to rent their wheelchair.
The walkways are covered with sand.
Their wheelchairs are the kind where you sit back, low to the ground, with big tires that are meant to go thru the sand.
I'm sure you can bring yours in and park it, but I'd recommend using theirs.
The distances aren't too bad, but you'll need someone to help because some of the pathways are up an incline. They're not real huge, but they are covered in wet sand from people walking to and from the beach.

I can't quite visualise what their wheelchairs are like, but being low to the ground doesn't sound very appealing as I am partially deaf and need to lipread and find an ordinary wheelchair a problem sometimes.

Maybe I would be better bringing the ECV in, but not sure how that would cope up the wet sandy slopes.

Maybe I should email Discovery Cove to see if they can help, does anyone have their email address please?

I was just at Discovery Cove today, and saw several of the DC wheelchairs with the big plastic balloon tires going by. I am having a hard time imagining how an ECV could function with all the sand covered walkways. I would suggest calling their phone number and ask to speak to a disabilities specialist: 877-4Discovery.

Since you're going through sand and there are a lot of people the distances feel longer than they really are
