Since we are driving from WI we have to plan a two day trip, stopping for 1 night. If we do get all the way in one day, how possible is it to walk in without a ressie for that night and get the AP rate for the night before our reservation starts. (we have the AP rate for the rest of our stay). I can't change the ressie to include that night, because there's no way to be sure we'll get down there that night.
If it's not too likely, especially for the second week in August, any suggestions for a cheap but clean offsite hotel for that 1 night? We would be getting in pretty late so amenities really don't matter, although a free breakfast the next morning might be nice :p

Highly doubtful. To my understanding only CRO/WDTC is able to apply code and discount rates. That's not to say you won't get lucky and be able to get a discount, but with the occupancy rates being as high as they ahve been lately, there's a distinct possibility you won't even be able to get a room.
Have a safe trip!

If you see that you are going to make it to WDW in one day...I would call cro...I have gotten the ap rate on a same day reservation...then you will be all set. If they don't have the rate available...you can grab something in town for one night.
Enjoy!

We have also called cro when we arrived in FL a day early and have gotten a room with ap rate.(twice) I bring my cell phone and cro number and if we arrive early I call and explain that we arrived earlier than expected and if they possibly have any rooms available at the ap rate and that we are staying with them and the resort for our vacation. We didn't get the same resort but we were on Disney property. If you don't get the ap rate you can stop and ask at any hotel near disney and most likely get a room. By the way this was in August.(3rd wk) Good Luck!!

i agree with webray, i also called a couple of times on my way and got the best rates. if they don't have a AP rate start asking about other discounts, some cm don't offer discounts unless you ask for them. sometimes if you start out with the coronado, port orleans and work your way up to alk or yc , you just might get a managers special.
i just booked the yc and the bc on the managers special $179.00.
ill be there a week before you, and i'll probably being the samething as you, if we get down there in one day.
good luck!;)
What is a "manager's special"? Is this something advertised or do you have to call CRO and get lucky?
