I know there is always speculation and talk about what will be the next DVC resort. But here is a question for everyone (I don't think I have ever seen this posted before but if it has...bear with me...)--Do you think Disney would ever make a DVC resort with one of the current monorail resorts (poly, GF, Cont)? I think it would be sooooo nice to have a DVC resort on the monorail track. What do you all think? It would probably not happen but there is always hope!! ;)

Our first stay on property was at the Poly in 1989. If they ever add Villas there, we'd love to visit!

I can't imagine what the point cost would be to stay at a monorail resort. It would probably be significantly more than even the VWL.

Well, they are always talking about the 4th resort that will be built on the monrail. If that ever came to pass, maybe they'd include a DVC portion. They might also be able to add some DVC element to the GF or Contemporary. However, it would not be very large and I couldn't guess about the point cost! ;) We can always dream....

I think they are all taking turns kicking the guy that decided to go with the Contemporary Garden rooms. That area would have been perfect for a DVC resort.

I am not sure that there is any room at any of the existing resorts. A fourth monorail hotel would certainly be a place, but now we are talking three years plus, they need to start that yesterday.

I have always liked the Contp. resort and if DVC were to make a resort on the Monorail it would be great. The big problem would be where it could be? Not much room on the MK monorail but possibly on the Epcot system.

I would love to see one at every resort. Direct, nonstop. That would be great but I think I entered fantasy land.

You're right about the Garden Rooms, but considering the age of the resort, he's probably already dead.

I don't think they would ever put a DVC resort at GF- it might take something away from its flagship image. I think Contemp is about as big as it can get. I think Poly is the best bet for the next DVC resort. I think a lot depends on how Y&B sells. My first reaction to the Y&B resort was "can't wait to buy", but after looking at the building site,I'm not so sure anymore- especially at the predicted price. I think the next DVC resort will be another from-the-ground-up like OKW and BWV rather then add-ons at existing resorts.

I always thought they made a huge mistake not expanding the monorail years ago, they should have considered a smaller unmanned version like we have here in Miami, it's called the people mover which is an elevated monorail with litle bus looking units which travels to each stop, the doors open and people can enter and exit, a recorded voice tells you the doors are closing and it goes to the next stop.

It is probably alot cheaper than the Disney monorail.

But back to the topic, there isn't much space to add a resort around Bay Lake in my opinion, but if they built one along the monorail from the TTC to Epcot it would work. Like near Epcot where you would have a nice view of Epcot.

They were supposed to expand monorail to Swan and Dolphin Resort but I guess they got cold feet. It was supposed to go right thru like contemp.

Couldn't they add on to the Epcot monorail system when they build the Beach Club Villas? I know it would not be necessary to go to Epcot, but you could stay on it and end up at MK. I don't think they would have to add too much rail onto the existing system since it circles Future World already.

Adding DVC facilities at the Poly would absolutely cause us to spring for more points.

It would be absolutely fantastic, hope they can squeeze it in but still look good!

I know it's just wishful thinking, but my wife & I would be all over owning at a DVC Poly resort!

I would be happy if they extended the Monorail to the International Gateway of EPCOT.

You'll notice, as you walk to the International Gateway, plenty of room for a Monorail Station (which was planned for with the Swan and Dolphin).

You would think with the number of hotels at EPCOT, this would be a logical expansion that wouldn't cost alot. Then if Disney decided, they could build a new Monorail from there to AK and MGM.

Hello everyone,
I just returned from VWL on Saturday and I was speaking to a DVC CM who told me about 3 possible new DVC sites. Mind you, these are all "rumors" and definitely not "for sures" so bear this in mind. The locations the CM told me about were Bonnet Creek, Magnolia and the Contemporary. In the case of the Contemporary, they would take down the North and South wings and put up 5 story DVC resorts. However, the CM said that the Contemporary DVC depended upon the proposed development of the Mediterranean resort which would be next to the Contemporary in the area of the present sink hole which according to the CM has not been active for 4-5 years. We chatted for quite a long time. The CM seemed quite knowledgable but then again, proposed plans are just that, "proposed". I just found it interesting and thought I'd pass it along.

I've been told that the Monorails is a very expensive little people mover. With the current cost cutting going on I seriously doubt they are going to extend it. As awful as the buses are, they're cheap.

hi!
I think that would be great to have a dvc home on the monorail!!!!!! :)

I'd be in the battle for first in line if it was at the Poly also!!!!!!!! ;)

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I agree with Olaf...

I've heard that the monorail is expensive to build and maintain and is not cost effective. I doubt we'll ever see any expansion of the existing tracks. I bet if Disney could, they'd even dump the existing one from the TTC to EC.

As for bulldozing the garden wings for a DVC resort...YES!! Do That!! Have you ever stayed in those rooms? It's like night and day, compared to staying in the tower. Bulldoze 'em and build us a contemporary DVC resort!
