Hi. We are staying at OKW in October and will have a rental car. How long does it take to get to the Magic Kingdom? Our first trip will be on an EE day, so I don't want to be too late. I also don't want to be early, we have a 3 year old and don't want to waste valuable "happy" time in the parking lot waiting for the gates to open. Thanks.

I'd allow 10 minutes from the gate of OKW to the MK Toll Plaza. Then you have to figure parking... you'll be parking in the Minnie section at that hour, which means you'll be walking from the parking lot to the Monorail. Figure in 5 minutes to park, and another 10 minutes to the Monorail. Chances are, you'll be taking the Resort train at that hour, as the Express probably won't be running. That's another 10 minutes at least. Figure in another 10 minutes "Just in case" time... so, if you want to be at the MK at 8:00, leave OKW at 7:15.

Or just catch a bus from OKW and let them drive you up to the MK gate.

I drive to a lot of the parks, but not MK. I don't want to deal with the tram, the boat or monorail etc. two ways! The bus takes you right to the gate and you are in!

We just got back from OKW and drove to MK several times. It was never a problem and the kids like the monorail ride - part of the experience. Sometimes if the line was too long to get back to the TTC from MK we would walk over to the Contemporary and take the Monorail from there. It's a nice walk if you aren't too tired.

I'd suggest taking the bus rather than driving. We went to EE during our trip this past April. Caught the bus at Hospitality House about 7:15, got to MK about 7:30. Fortunately, got through security with very little wait. We stood outside the turnstiles for about 20 minutes (we were first in line at one of them), but kept the kids busy by talking with other guests and CMs. I'm not quite sure, but I thought there was a way to pre-rent a stroller while waiting to enter the park.

IMHO, I'd much prefer the above scenario than driving to and parking at MK. I don't know about your kids, but with mine, when exiting the park, I want it to take as little time as possible to get back to the resort as that seems to be when my two have the least patience!!!;)

We always use the busses to go to MK from OKW even though we always have a rental car. It is much easier and less of a hassle. We do use the car for resort hopping,DD,off-site restraunts, shopping, etc.;)

I probably should have mentioned we have always rented a car/minivan since having children, and usually drive to parks if we've found it to be a timesaver. We've stayed off-site a few times and visited MK by driving to it. It's been okay, but would have preferred to be onsite and use the bus!;-)

I'm not sure if you've been there before or not. If you drive, you go to the parking lot and then may have to take a tram from your spot to TTC. You then have to take the monorail or the ferry over to the MK. If you take the bus, you will go directly from OKW to outside the gate of the MK.
