We never did but it seems that many do?
Any advice?

I do. I get cheap ones at Target and they will last a couple of days. They come in a small rectangle and are easy to pack.

Yes, definately! It tends to rain everyday, and you don't want to walk around wet. Don't wait until you get to the parks to buy one. You will pay a LOT more than you would at Wal-Mart, Target, or Bass Pro Shops. Small umbrellas are also nice.

Yes, bring them. Remember that no matter how sunny and beautiful of a day it is when you start off in the morning, BRING THE PONCHOS WITH YOU. We had a rain shower everyday last week during the afternoon. Even the briefest shower can get you drenched down there.

One of the advantages to the cheap ponchos from Wal-Mart, Target, etc., is that you can simply toss them when the rain stops. They're less than $1 each.
It's much better than trying to fold up a bulky, drippy poncho after a storm and then having to carry it around with you. A few folks have said they didn't like the "thinness" of the disposable ponchos; they compared them to Saran Wrap. However, we prefer that to having to lug a wet Mickey poncho around for the remainder of the day. And at less than $1 each, you can bring several for each person.
An extra advantage is that they will actually fit into an average-sized fanny pack; in fact, I usually have two in mine, along with the other daily necessities.

I am packing ponchos I bought from Target for $4.99 each, probably the same ones jfeasel is talking about. They are flat and will be easy to tuck into luggage, and then into backpacks once we get there. I am also taking a travel umbrella (nothing like having the rain pound on your head!)
I didn't want to get the Disney ponchos not because they were more expensive, but because I wanted to be able to find my niece (7) in a crowd.
Wearing a Disney one, every one looks the same! :p

I bought several cheap, 89 cent, ones that were clear. That makes it really easy to find people in a crowd. I also bought a raincoat for my son. They're on sale this time of year.

As the "proud" owner of nine Mickey ponchos ( the one day I was convinced it wasn't going to rain we were caught in the worst storm I have ever seen while waaaaay out at the American Pavillion) I agree with all the previous posters: bring the ponchos and bring them with you every day!!!!
Regarding finding your family in a sea of Mickeys: some have suggested using permanent marker to write giant initials or other markings on the back of the heads of the ponchos.

I pack them every trip (after buying them at WDW during our first trip in rainy September 1998!!!) and we ALWAYS leave them back in the resort or car when we need them cause we think "oh, it won't rain today" or we just forget, so now we have 3 sets!!!!!

Popee if you don't bring your ponchos the rain gods will be offended it they will bring rain down in buckets upon you. I know they always do to me.

most definitely pack ponchos. We've used ours on nearly every single trip, at least once!

We always bring our ponchos when we go we also bring a poncho for our stroller so that stays dry when it has to be parked outside in the rain or when pushing it in the rain.

lol, we have about 9 Disney ponchos and we always try to take them. Mind you, these are ponch's we bought back when they were $3. What gets us in trouble is deciding to leave them at the resort because it doesn't 'look ' like rain.....lo and behold a a storm comes along.

An advantage to the cheap ponchos is that you won't be sad if you lose them. Last time we took our two DS, we lost not one, but two sets of pochos when our designated-poncho-carrier put the bag down somewhere and never picked it up. The first set had two actual raincoats and two mickey ponchos. The second set had four mickey ponchos. Next time we will be buying cheapos to throw away after the rain!

There are 4 must haves for us in the parks:
1. ponchos from Dollar Tree 2/$1
2. water bottles
3. video camera
4. $$$$
1. to keep your outsides dry
2. to keep your insides from drying out
3. to keep memories of a lifetime
4. Ya gotta eat, and keep the economy rolling
Enjoy your trip!

If you do go with the lower price clear ones I would suggest several for each person. They are cheap and easy, but not always the strongest. We went through several last August. We also have Mickey ones that we bought and use whenever, but we had Busch Gardens ones too! Talk about sticking out in a crowd!!! I also threw in a couple large trash baqs to throw over the stroller. When the storm ended, or the night was over, throw away the bag and your done!
Good luck!

I just wanted to take a minute (that's all I have ----- still need to pack for WDW trip in 2 days) to thank everyone who replied to my post. I went out and bought ponchos for the whole family, just in case of rain (hopefully not!!!!!!)

Don't forget, rain clears out the parks, and more importantly the lines! Ride, ride, ride your way through those Florida rain storms!

We bought the cheap ones and took them with us on our first trip. The first time it rained we put them on and 3 out of 4 ripped. We ended up getting the Mickey ones at the park and take them on every trip. We view them as a 'functional souvenir".

We took 2 each of the .87 ponchos from Wal-Mart. They were not the strongest, but worked great for us and held up well on the days we needed them. They scrunched up well when we needed to put them away and then we just threw them out when finished for the day. It was very easy to distinguish us in our clear ponchos among the sea of yellow Mickeys. One of my funniest memories of our trip was another family with the same ponchos passing us and remarking to us, "There's some fellow 87-centers!" with a big thumps up LOL
