I guess I won't be able to walk as a form of exercise for a while.

Before my DH came home from Kuwait (5/9) I thought I had a splinter in my foot and I tried to get out. I found nothing and I left a little hole in my foot. It really didn't heal at all, nothing bad but just a hole in my foot. Very tiny, and completely round. As time went on the skin got thicker and as it did it hurt more when I put weight on that spot. Last month when we went to Williamsburg and spent the day at Bush Gardens, by the end of the night my foot hurt. While in the hotel, I picked at it a little and again the built up skin that was growing in that little circle came out. It was caloused like skin. It felt better.

Well this weekend when we went to Boston it hurt a little after walking around and standing most of the night during the fireworks. Saturday we got up and walked MILES! By the middle of our walk it was starting to hurt and by the end of the walk it was hurting REALLY Bad. I was getting cranky, and almost unable to make it. I seriously was ready to catch a cab back to the hotel. DH had to finish the Freedom trail, so I sat at the USS constitution while he and the kids went to Bunker Hill. It felt a little better after I rested, got out of the sun and had another bottle of water. We took a water taxi halfway back (as far as it went). We then walked back to find a restaurant to eat. I wanted Legal Seafoods, but it was a 1 1/2 hour wait, and I was not going to sit outside in the heat. Basically we walked all the way back to our hotel and found a restaurant about 2 1/2 blocks from the hotel. My foot was hurting so bad. It was swollen, inflamed and full of puss. I was able to squeeze it some to relieve the pressure. It started hurting really bad and bled just a little so I stopped.
Sunday we went to Salem and Plymouth Mass, and we walked again. Nothing like on Saturday, but again it hurt at the end of the day. The car ride home yesterday was a relief. When I got home I was able to put peroxide and neosporin on it. Today it looked alot better, but I had a hard time finding a comfortable shoe.
I made a doctors appoint for tonight and thought I was going to have him just look at it. The girl at the front desk was not able to get me in today, but when I told her I could hardly walk and it was an open wound she fit me in.

I felt a little guilty, because it did look much better than this weekend. I thought he was going to laugh at my foot and wonder what I was worried about. Well not only was he not laughing but he squeezed all the puss out, (commenting that there was lots). He ended up shooting the sight with novacaine (OUCH). He then cut into my foot as he squeezed the puss out. The novocaine only lasted a few minutes before I started feeling it again. It was throbing so much by the time he was done. Now I must go get X-rays, and go back next week to see if it has healed. He gave me oral antibiotics. If it doesn't heal I have to go to a specialist who deals with things that don't heal. They have specialists for everything I guess.

If I was in pain prior to going........I am in pain now. I almost fainted as I was making my appointment for next week. The receptionists had to get me a chair and some water. I think it was standing on it and trying to walk that made me wousy! I guess I won't be able to walk for exercise for a little while. I can barely walk across the room right now. Its bandaged up and I am really afraid to take it off!

Well I hope I didn't gross any one out to much. I am bummed that I won't get to walk. I hate stopping, because it always seems hard to get back into the groove. At least It doesn't affect me eating!

You pooor thing!!! I can't believe you walked as much as you did!!! It sounds like you have an aggressive doctor who's on top of it- hopefully it's going to be healing quickly and you'll be back on your feet in no time- but for now - GET IT HEALED!!! Let us know what the specialist says!

Make everyone pamper you - you won't have many opportunities to have the kiddos and dh serve you for a change :)

Do you have Diabetes? Cause sometimes that can cause your foot not to heal. Take care of yourself.;)

Eeeeeek! Oh my, poor Melanie!!!

I didn't read all the post, but I got the gist! YIKES!

Here is some FOOT HEALING FAST pixie dust for you!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I sure hope you stay OFF your foot as much as possible (really, my father hurt his foot and it would have healed much quicker if he hadn't been so hard headed about using a cane/crutches...) SO YOU STAY OFF THAT FOOT NOW so it can heal quickly and you can get back to walking soon!

Hug hug hug!!!

Melanie,

I'm so sorry! That sounds horrible! You just keep that foot up and let the meds do their work and don't push it till your foot's all better, you hear???? Let the kids and DH take care of you for a change!

Thanks for everyone's well wishes. It feels alot better today, but I am still limping on it. I was really afraid to take the bandage off last night. It really didn't look as bad as I thought it was going to. For some reason I thought I saw it while he was cutting and getting the "stuff" out and I swear it was like pieces of skin being cut away. It still is a smallish hole, but bigger than before. He must have really got alot of that "stuff" out, because it didn't hurt to push on the skin around it.

Today it feels much better! I am sitting here at work with thick shoes on and walking around without shoes!

Poohbear, I don't have Diabetes. He said my body is acting like I have a foreign object in my foot. He was hoping to get whatever was in there out. He couldn't find anything and didn't want to dig deeper.

Wow, Melanie. Ouch and double ouch.

This may sound like a weird question, but have you been to the beach lately? Here's why I ask: DH is a commercial diver who dives for sea urchins. The sea urchin spines - at least on the urchins DH dives for - can cause problems exactly like you described, even after they're removed OR even if they don't break off in your skin!

Just curious. It would explain why you can't find anything in your foot, but it's not healing up. Maybe there are other things out there that cause the same reaction as sea urchin spines.

Feel better!

Daisy;)

Wow, that's quite the story, Mealnie! I'm glad to hear you went right to the DR with it. Take it easy till your foot is healed, that should help it to heal faster. You'll be right back on track in no time!

Nope,
I haven't been to the beach this year. I had my x-ray's on Thursday night. I guess I won't know much about the x-rays until my appointment on Tuesday night. It feels alot better, but isn't completely healed up. I keep putting neosporin on it and keeping bandaids on it during the day when I walk. I can walk on it now without limping!
