Hi Mike and Welcome to the Dis
I have looked in the trip report index for you and none are titled Gulf Coast, so I am going to pop you over to trip planning and I am sure you will get some great advice there :D

I was on the Gulf Coast in October, mostly around St Petes, Tampa, Bradenton etc. Sarasota is a bit further south. I know the area quite well if you have any specific questions I will try to answer them.
Spent Xmas 1999 there - took my own Christmas Pudding with me! Did you know, it has a very similar xray profile to semtex?!

Looking at possibilty of staying in St Petes next year- would you recommend staying on beach or St Petes itself round the other side. Not too bothered about being right onto the beach but which area is nicer? Wld like to stay in condo could you suggest any area?

Hmm... I am not a beach fan, so I would say 'inland' bit of St Petes. There are plenty of condos just across the toll bridge into Isla Key and Tierra Verde.
I have stayed on the beach a few times. The Don Cesar is nice, but a bit 'formal'-ish. I think I would say Tradewinds is the best hotel on the beach. Or maybe the sister hotel 'Sirata Beach'(?)

Whooo... spooky, seeing my 1st post rise from the mists of time... I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day! And I'm just planning a further trip to the Gulf for next Easter.. :p
..anyhow... have done a trip report after the Christmas trip, where we spent the second week on Siesta Key near Sarasota. We had a brief look at the St Pete's area and other places passing through, but got the impression that the Sarasota Keys (Anna Marie, Longboat, Siesta) were prettier than some of the places further north.... have a read (link below)
