Hi,

We just returned from a back to back and while onboard booked for 6/19/2004. We will collect our thoughts and will write about the back to back cruises.

Hi,

I booked our 6/19/04 cruise about 6 months ago. We were lucky enough to get a secret porthole room!! Cruising will be myself, DH and DS who will be 14 at the time of the cruise. We did the 3 day Wonder cruise in December 2001 (our 1st cruise ever) and LOVED it! In fact, before we had ever left the port in Cape Canaveral my DH was asking when we could cruise again! And this coming from the man I have to drag on vacations!! Hope to meet you on the cruise.

There is another thread somewhere but search function is down at the moment.

Count us in!! It's me, dh and our 3 boys who will be 16, 13 and 9 at the time of cruising. Also with us will be my brother, his wife and their dd (13) and our Mom.

Hi Debbie,
Hope you had 2 great cruises! What were the chances that we would be seated together at the Japanese restaurant in Epcot? And that we'll be on the same cruise again next summer? The kids are already looking forward to it...we ran into one of our servers at Epcot while we were there and have already requested him again for next year.
Say hi to the rest of your family...see you in June!

Hi Debbie,

We printed out some quotes but haven't booked. Yet...not sure if schedules will permit or not.

Anyway, I have a picture of Wes on stage with the ventriliquist...I suppose I should post it on the board somewhere. ;) If you'd like a copy drop me a PM and I'll put it in the mail!

Beth,

It is funny enough that we were seated together at EPCOT, but the same cruise again??????? That is so neat!

We thoroughly enjoyed the back to back cruises. I'm not sure if I would do it again anytime soon but it was great fun. I wish they would change some of the performers though. I will post more about the back to back when I can. We are back to work today and it has been hectic.

By the way, have you heard Wes on WARM103??????

Hi Deb,

Sorry we did not connect sooner. Of course you must post the picture!!! That is too funny. The following week he was picked as the guy that was swimming in the pool. Poor Michael was so confused, he kept calling the guy being the dummy, Wes. It was cute.

:p

We went ahead a booked while we were on, that way we have something else to look forward to. We will be in Disney in August, before the kids go back to school. Already looking forward to that!

Let us know when you book!

HI Denise. Glad we are up and running again after a bit of a summer hiatus. The more the merrier! Hanover is between York and Gettysburg. Closest large city is Baltimore about an hour away. We live about a mile as the crow flies from the Pa-Md line. If you get a chance, log onto www.local6.com. They show Port Canaveral cam and sometimes you can see the Magic or the Wonder at the terminal. In fact I watched the Wonder cruise down the ship channel thursday afternoon. It was depressing. It was there and I was here:( . Anyway the countdown continues. Stay in touch and get your pals on the board. Wes

Hi Everyone;
Took a break from the boards and just logged in again to see if there are more traveling on June 19th- so happy to see there's more families joining the group; I booked last April.

Traveling Buggies include me, my DH, DD age 13 and DD age 11; the kids are clueless, although my older daughter saw my Passporter for the DCL. I was tempted to change the trip around and switch to a shorter and less expensive WDW vacation, but as soon as I read these boards I was hooked again!

Looking forward to getting through the winter by dreaming about this trip :)

We met a nice newlywed couple on this year's cruise who shared a table with us at dinner. They were music teachers in Ohio and were on their honeymoon. After hanging out with us for a week they became so enthralled by the DCL experience that while on board they signed on for the 6-19-04 western just so they could cruise with us again. I'll see if we can recruit them to the disboard. I also have an anesthesiologist friend who we are trying hard to get onto this cruise as well. It may be hard sell. I'll work on his kids...let them convince him;) Wes.

Hi everyone!
Now that we're all back at school (DH and I are both teachers) we are really anxious for June19! Not that we don't love the kids we teach, but it's a reality check that summer is really over and we need to look forward to June again!
DH and I did a Carnival cruise out of NYC to Bermuda this summer and had an incredible time. I know there is a lot of Carnival bashing that goes on on other cruise boards but we had nothing but wonderful things to say about Carnival. We couldn't help but compare to Disney and thought Carnival did some things better than DCL...entertainment being one of them. DCL food was a little better but Carnival had a better variety, esp. at lunch. Service and ship were equal and price was better on Carnival. We did a 7day to Bermuda with a balcony for the same amt. as a 4 day DCL with veranda. Plus leaving from NYC was a great selling point. And Bermuda is ever more beautiful than the Caribbean islands!
Wish DCL would leave from NYC!
Have a good week everyone!

GLAD YOUR BACK!! DH AND I DID A RCCL CRUISE IN JAN FOR ANNIVERSARY AND REALLY ENJOYED IT. DM AND DD DID CARNIVAL 2 YEARS AGO AND COULDN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT. JUST ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR. IF IT WASN'T FOR OUR DS WANTING TO DO DISNEY FOR GRADUATION WE WOULD PROBABLY DO RCCL AGAIN BUT THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT DISNEY THAT THE OTHERS JUST DON'T HAVE. MAYBE IT'S THE PIXIE DUST!!

I'm sorry, but my DH, DS and I won't be joining all of you on the 6/19/04 cruise. Don't feel sorry for us though. The reason we won't be on the 6/19/04 cruise is because we just found out tonight that my son's best friend (since the age of 4...they're both 14 now) will be able to join us on the 7/17/04 cruise and then spend a week at VWL with us!!!! I am THRILLED that he will be able to join us. He went with us to VB/WDW for 2 weeks this summer and my son had such a great time showing him "our world"! After our first day at Vero I knew that we had to find a way to pay for him to join us next summer. Believe it or not, after I proposed the "all expenses paid" vacation a month ago, his mom and dad had to give it some deep thought. He is a really good baseball player and will miss his last few games of the season. Luckily, his parents let him decide and he picked the trip with us. Oh well, I have to wait an extra month to cruise, but I know my son will have soooo much fun.

OK, here we go: three words--Fury Catamarran Snorkel and beach party in Cozumel. That's actually more than three words. We call it the booze cruise because once you finish the snorkelling they start passing out an endless supply of this delightful mexican beer and marguritas. We had the best time and the crew was terrific. Very entertaining. The little kids had fun too although all mine are older. I'll email you a couple of pictures and you'll see what I mean. Hi again, Patches. Just finished yanking that gall bladder out. My ds and dd, 18 and 16 at the time both parasailed at Castaway Cay and loved it. Advice: have them take a waterproof camera. From that high up they can get a very panoramic picture of the Magic and the island. Both are a bit daredevilish, too and they didn't mind the height. It was a tad pricey, though. The banana boat ride was a hoot. Another excursion we liked was to Rum Point on Grand Cayman. It was a beachy sort of time and we all did waverunners there, smoked cuban cigars and worked on our tabns. The only draw back was the bus and ferry ride over was a bit tedious. The only excursion we've done at Key West was the sunset sail on the Western Union. It was fun. But we subsequently enjoyed the sunset from Mallory Square better. We usually cruise up and down Duval Street at Key West. We take our time, people watch, shop and hit Jimmy Buffet's for lunch and have a few drinks at the various bars. Wes

Congrats on the first place. Things are getting settled in for the hurricane. I suspect it will hit us sometime on Thursday. 09-20-2003, 12:39 AM
Hi there,
Yep, we were. We had tropical storm winds, rain, and we lost a lot of limbs and a few trees on our property. Many people lost power but fortunately all we lost was the cable and our trees. In our county, 43,000 are still without power, Lancaster, our neighboring county, still has about 40, 000 without. It was an experience. On the way to the hospital this morning Wes said he saw many downed power lines that were sparking on the pavement. We are still feeling some of the effects with rain and it is now over 24 hours after it hit us. Fortunately, all the schools in this part of Pennsylvania and in Maryland closed down yesterday. Our daughter lives in Maryland and they were without power and the Inner Harbor and historical Fells Point is underwater.

We are considering June 19 Western: DH, DS (will just be 18) and lil ole' me!;)

But some questions:

Enough to do for DS (since he will be too old for teen club)?

We aren't drinkers...will we be party poopers?????

DS really wants to do ruins in Cozumel....what is that excursion like?

Finally...are we too late for decent cabin? Will be using DVC points/cash combo....(college is LOOMING    )

Any info would be great!:)

Hope you decide to join us. As to some of the questions maybe I can help. NO you won't be a party pooper as we don't drink either. I think your DS will find plenty to do. Our DS will be 18 also and before we booked we made sure he didn't want to do another cruiseline and he said definatly not, Disney is the best! The last time alot of them didn't stay in the club much anyway they just all ung out together. And someone else posted that if the club isn't full that sometimes they will let the 18 yr olds in too. That's about all I can tell you about, hope that helps some. Be sure and check out the list in this post about the ages of the group, there are quite a few teenages in this group and I'm sure they will have fun.

I hope you can join us!!!

I think your DS will find plenty to do. No you won't be party poopers because you don't drink. As for the ruins in Cozumel -- does DS want to do the San Gervasio ruins or do the excursion over to Tulum? If he decides not to do either I can recommend an awesome excursion through an independent company. We did the Jungle Jeep Tour when we were in Cozumel this past August on the Voyager of the Seas. Yes, I was a bit leery because it wasn't an RCI or cruise line excursion but the reviews we read were so good we decided to try it and I am so glad we did!! Here is the link: http://www.cozumel.travelnotes.cc/tours/jeep.html. Our boys (15, 12 and 8) loved this excursion. They all said it's better than Indiana Jones! I don't think you're too late for a decent cabin but you probably should look into it soon. HTH.

We'll check into that jeep tour...looks very cool! Not sure, but I think Tulum was his 1st choice (budding archeologist!)

My Mom, SIL and niece did Tulum -- we did the Jungle Jeep Tour. They booked it through RCI and opted not to use an independent company for this excursion. My Mom loves going to ruins and while she liked the Tulum excursion she did say that the Chichen Itza ruins were much better. Other than the fact that it was extremely hot she said the boat ride over wasn't as bad as some of the other posters had said. HTH

Have any any of you been to any of the Western Caribbean ports before? We cruised on the Voyager of the Seas this past August and will be repeating Grand Cayman and Cozumel. I'm starting to think about what we'll do in these two ports. We did Stingray City in Grand Cayman (lots of fun) and did an awesome Jungle Jeep Tour in Cozumel (the best excursion ever). Aside from these two excursions anybody have any "must do" excursions or have any suggestions? TIA

Patches, here is the link to the website: http://www.cozumel.travelnotes.cc/tours/jeep.html. Click on the Jungle Jeep Reviews. My brother and I found this site about the same time and even though I was a bit leery of booking an independent company I am so glad we did. We met Richard (the owner) and Susan (our guide) at the No Name Bar. If you are on Disney you meet at the Burger King. We paid and then proceeded to go into town to pick up our lunch and drop Richard off. My brother drove the second jeep for the first 1/2 of our trip. Susan took us out of town to the other side of the island. She was very knowledgable about the island and Mayan culture. You pass the San Gervasio ruins on your way. When you get to the end of the road, you turn onto the bumpiest road you'll ever drive on. We went to two small ruins, passed an Army outpost and then went to a beach to swim, snorkel and have our lunch. My dh drove on the way back and we stopped at the coconut plantation where the caretaker opened up coconuts for us. On our way back to the ship Susan took us through town and pointed out different things and shopping areas. HTH.

It is a very rough ride so maybe not a good choice for you. However, I believe you can arrange for a "tour" of Cozumel through the same company. Maybe this would be the way to go. HTH.

So glad you'll be joining us!!! :Pinkbounc As for picking out a stateroom this is certainly the place to post your question. You may even want to start a new thread asking this question. My brother, his dw and dd had a Cat. 6 on our last Disney cruise. I believe it was 6066 (mid-ship). While it was a lovely stateroom it was a "connecting" stateroom and they heard every word in the room next to them. My Mom also had a "connecting" stateroom and also complained of the noise. My brother he said since this room was mid-ship they experienced a lot of hall noise (1) because it was near the elevators and (2) there is also a pass-through right behind the elevators. HTH

Since we're on the West Coast we'll be flying in on the 18th as well. We'll be staying at the Hyatt MCO since our flight probably won't get in until around 6pm (I'm basing that on our last cruise and those flight times). Hopefully we won't experience the delays as we did then. Yes -- it is getting closer and we're starting to think about excursions. Hi Everyone!
Thought I'd check in with the group as it's getting close enough that this is believable!:yo-yo:

I booked only one excursion so far directly with the company-the dolphin swim on Cozumel, as my DDs are set on it. Everything else is a bit up in the air, as every time I ask about excursions my DH rolls his eyes and says sarcastically "is this going to be as relaxing as our trips to WDW?" So I guess I'll just hold off for now.

Does anyone know how fast the DCL excursions book up? I would imagine it depends on the trip, but I was thinking if we just booked the must-dos and then had plans A, B. or C like I do for days in WDW, we could take a wait and see approach. As always, the planning is almost as much fun as the trip. It's getting me through this long, very cold New England winter.

I'll enjoy keeping up with this thread now that we are down to months instead of years.......:teeth:

Hi all, for any of you that are interested, you can see the Wonder on Thursdays and Sundays and the Magic on Saturdays by going to the webcam at Port Canaveral website under multimedia. Debbie thinks it is cruel to watch the ships in port but I try to imagine all those excited people in the terminal and wish I was one of them. Sometimes the guy running the webcam (I figured out it sits on top of the Rinker silo) will follow the ships down the channel as they depart. That really puts off my wife. "Hey Debbie, come look at this" and its a webcam pic of the ship cruising out to sea. Boy does she say bad words! She won't even come to my computer when I call her now.:teeth: Soon, folks, soon. A little over four months. Almost time to buy sunscreen. Cheers, Wes.:earsboy:

Gee, what a difference a day makes. I thought Disney was getting over its post 9/11 doldrums only to find out that Eisner is in trouble and a hostile bid has been offered from Comcast---a cable company!!!. What's wrong with this picture? Who knows, we may be sailing on the Comcast Cruise Line on a ship renamed M.S. Monopoly (as in cable monopoly). Anybody ever see their cable TV rates go DOWN??:earseek: Wes (I'm not so cheerful today. Sorry)

Aloha!

Great idea, Debbie....would LOVE to throw a party for our gang of grads...was trying to figure out what XTRA-SPECIAL something we could do for DS (like a DISney cruise the SAME YEAR we start paying college tuition isn't enough!!!)

Anyway, we WILL NOT sail on the ms comcast ANYTHING! Someone on TV last nite said they are the LARGEST purveyor of ADULT programming in the country!!!:earseek:

We in NJ already know about their HORRIFIC customer service ( it is legendary here)...oh, and their great history as a terrific stock...they make their tremendous profits by ripping-off their customers AND probably the employees as well!

This is NOT the direction DISNEY should go in!

Just my 2 cents!:wave2:

After your favorable response for the grad party, I think we should do it! Perhaps we can enlist the CM's on the ship. We will have to put out a call for all parents on this cruise with graduating seniors! They would love it, especially if it was a total suprise! We can try to plan it for a day at sea. Any thoughts???

Yea!! Being new to this board, I just found this listing. Am very excited to add my name, DM and DS to the group. Dm is 64 and DS is 8. This will be out first Disney Cruise and we can't wait!! I keep finding so much useful info on all the discussion forums. We were very lucky, sounds like, to get a secret porthole room since we didn't know anything about them at the time. I believe we are in 5520, is this a good one to be in?

My family and I will be in cabin 5020, right across the elevator lobby from you! You will love the secret porthole...of course, nothing is better than a veranda but for the money the secret porthole is a great bargain! I love being close to the elevators (even though I don't use them)...gotta use the stairs to help burn off all the calories I eat and drink! Keep reading these boards... you will find lots a great information and great people here!

Hi everyone,
We are about to break 100 and get into double digits! Has anyone decided on excursions? Palo? Spa? Brunch? That graduation party sounds great- my DDs are a few years away from that, but what a great memory for your kids.::yes::

Is anyone flying in early? We decide to leave Thursday and are booked at the RonJon Resort. I hope it's as nice as it sounds.
That will give us the option of staying by the pool all day, or going to the Kennedy Space Center (we've never been.)

Hope everyone has a great day!:sunny:

You know Kathy I was just thinking we're about to hit double digits!! As far as what we're doing -- definitely Palo for dinner and brunch. Don't know if I'll do anything in the spa. Still trying to decide what to do in Grand Cayman. We did Stingray City last August and want to do something else. In Cozumel, we've booked Eagle Ray Divers and we're still open for Key West. I think we'll probably do the Trolley since it allows you to get on and off. Aside from all that we're just looking forward to cruising on the Magic again!

We've booked Southwest to fly down the day of the cruise. Day before was much more expensive, plus the cost of the hotel and transportation.

We're going to use transfers again, but at least this time, we know our bags won't be picked up at the cruise terminal, so there are no surprizes or disappointments.

Wow Tooty-
It was over a year ago when I first found these boards and decided to take the leap and book. I can't believe we are really going. So far we've only booked a Royal Swim with the Dolphins in Cozumel for my DH and DDs (he said he's do it with them as I would like to watch but not interested in getting in!) That happens in the afternoon at 3:30pm, which wrecks the opportunity for the Jeep Tour or Dune Buggie Tour, which is what I wanted to do. Oh well, that's an excuse for going again someday!

I haven't planned anything for the other ports because I don't know if we'll want to just enjoy the local beaches, if we'll snorkel, or if we'll stay on board and enjoy the ship. (We aren't big shoppers) No one wants to do the stingrays in the Caymans, but the reef/shipwreck snorkeling sounds fun. In Key West we are going to play it by ear, and CC will be so relaxing! My older DD may want to do some of the teen outings, but I am not pushing and will wait until the first day on board to see if she makes some friends or will hang out with us.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on board this June!

Oh, and RandyTenn-
I was scrolling through all the posts I missed (when I just had to stop checking the boards because I was just too obsessive) and was so happy to hear about you possibly adopting a child from Russia. Is that still in the plans? My SIL has two children, a girl and a boy, that she adopted from St. Petersburg at different times in the past couple years. They are doing great, and the children are a wonderful addition to our extended family. It was pretty cool to get late night calls from Moscow telling us of their progress! Best wishes..

Welcome Magicalfam5!

We also have a DS who is 14. This will be our 4th Disney cruise and DS is one of the cruise's biggest fans. Your kids will have a great time. DS joined us for dinners and excursions but that's about it. He has made great friends and is still in contact with many of them.
I am definately ready for a cruise. Last Tuesday on my way to school a guy in a pickup hit me and my car is totaled! Luckily I wasn't hurt. The ironic thing is that I had just gotten it back from the body shop on Friday. It was there since the beginning of Feb. when my daughter (who was driving the car that day) was rear-ended by a friend of hers!! I guess we just weren't meant to have that car. So I have 1 week to find a new one.....Disney...take me away!!!

Hi all! Family and I just got back from a grueling week at Old Key West. Spring break. Since I was tasked with arranging or at least researching the idea of getting the grads together, here is the result of the investigation: DCL will not allow a private gathering in a lounge that is not open to all passengers. Second, we could arrange for a private conference room to host a private party. I have no idea how much that might cost. Nothing on a cruise other than the food, is without cost. So we have a few options, and I want to go on record as being in favor of getting the grads together, one would be to just all plan on meeting Monday (first day at sea) at a pre arranged location and time. and do things on the fly or arrange somehting more formal. I would like to get a concensus and will proceed accordingly. Personally, I would like to arrange a meeting, probably in the late afternoon before everybody has to get ready for formal night, and have a little congratulatory gathering with soft drinks and cheese and nachos, etc and not-so-soft drinks for adults by one of the pools. We can task each other to get a banner and a cake and cards and maybe a bottle of sparkling cider to pop for the kids. It might be a blast. More spontaneous the better. Let me know, dw and I are game for most anything... Wes (Debbie H's better half.):wave2:

DoombuggieDriver,

Sorry, I hadn't been on the cruise boards in a while. Yes, we are still adopting from Russia. We just finished our home study, and got it from the Social Worker yesterday, so our next step is to apply to the INS for permission to bring the child into the US.

We don't know anything about timeframe or location, or sex, or age. Basically, we know we will get a child someday. :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the cruise. Our last childless "Hurrah" (although the thoughts of taking a little one to WDW is awfully exciting . . .seeing the parks through little eyes!)

As for the ports: In Key West we'll do the Trolley tour. I'll be booking it online since it's less than going through Disney. http://shophta.com/acb/stores/15/product1.asp?SID=15&Product_ID=13&kc=y It's nice because you have the "on and off" options. We've got this same trolley here in San Diego and it's great.

We're doing Eagle Ray Divers in Cozumel http://www.eagleraydivers.com/Diving.htm

Haven't decided what to do in Grand Cayman. We were leaning toward Rum Point Adventure but I think you spend more time traveling to and from the beach than spending actual time on the beach so I think we'll either catch a cab to Seven Mile Beach or Cemetary Beach.

As for Castaway Cay we're just going to relax.

I just made our Palo brunch and dinner reservations (we've got a Cat. 2) so we don't have to scramble after boarding.

Just wondering -- is there going to be a DIS meet on board?

Hi Everyone,
Have been a bit distracted lately so I actually missed the 60 day mark! Unbelievable when you consider I've been watching the counter since February of 2003.

I booked the Dolphin Swim at 3:30pm on Cozumel a couple months ago, and that's it so far. Actually Cozumel was the one port there are a lot of things I'd rather do, but the girls really are set on the dolphins.

I am afraid of oversheduling, but at the same time I am getting antsy to book something again..... I'll have to talk with the DH this evening, although he's always left most of this up to me.

It IS hard to believe how quickly time has flown. I agree, Kathy, there is always the problem of trying to do too much. We've booked excursions we've done before and look forward to doing again. This may mean we relinquish a chance to swim with the stingrays or climb the ruins but heck, we enjoy the past excursions so much and since it's been a year since we last did it we can't wait to do it again. We would like to get plans going for an onboard meeting. In past cruises we have all met on deck ten after shoving off. But not everyone can make that so we've all agreed to meet in the Promenade Lounge at Ten on the first night Saturday. Lastly, we need to plan a meeting for the grads as we had talked about some months back. We hope we can get together. Wes

Hi Everyone!
The get-together at 10 on Saturday night sounds like fun. And although we don't have any grads, let me know if I can help in any way. What a great way to mark graduation! My daughters (13 & 11) are all excited about meeting everyone, and they'll be headed to clubs at least for the first night. After that, who knows....

I am getting so psyched for this trip-our last family vacation was 5 days in New Hampshire in January 2003, which was nice but you have to deduct the first and last day for travel so it was three days there, and that was spent with extended family which was fun but not too relaxing! It was also bone chilling. The last time we actually flew out of Boston was Feb. of 2000 when we went to WDW (and that was messed up because of of storm of course, we were supposed to leave on Friday and couldn't get going until the following Tuesday). So this is long overdue.

Since I last posted we booked a banana boat ride on Castaway Cay. I had to laugh when they picked it-we live right near a lake and the get towed around every summer. But this will be fun I'm sure.

Does anyone ever do excursions without their family? I would like to go snorkeling on Cozumel, but they don't want to commit. Well, we'll see....
Have fun planning!

Kathy, We have cruised both eastern and western several times each and DW and I have gone off on our own usually to shop or sight see around cayman or Key west while the kids did an excursion but my kids are old enough to do this. That makes a big difference. My recommendation at Cozumel is the Fury sail, snorkel and beach party. Its a big catamarran and we find it to be a real hoot. Especially if ypu like margaritas. The meeting at ten on Saturday at the Promenade lounge sounds like a plan. Hard to believe it is only seven weeks away. Is this your first cruise? I predict you will have so much fun with your family that tears will well in your eyes as you disembark::yes:: . TTYL, Wes

Hi everyone,
It seems the closer I get to the sailing date the less time I spend here-now when I really need to! It's a hectic time of year for everyone I guess.

Wes, the Fury sounds like a ball-I'm just worried that after too many margaritas they won't let us near the dolphins! I'll have to check and see what time the excursion leaves to see if we can fit it in and if it's still available.

Judy, the girls are really enjoying the e-mails from your kids. Their names are tossed around during conversations like they are old friends. It's pretty funny. They do seem to have a lot in common. Hopefully it will translate in real life and they can spend some time together. Our banana boat ride is set for 10:50am. The only other thing is the Dolphin Swim on Cozumel at 3:30pm.

Denise, how old are your kids? I have to look back on the list to check it out. The older of my two can be shy at first, and I imagine a lot of kids are that way.

I can't wait to get the heck out of Dodge and onto that ship!

Hi Rose!
What do you teach? I'm a reading specialist and work primarily with K, 1 and 2. I love what I do but when May hits it seems as though the kids have had enough!

OUr daughter graduates on June 4 so she'll have a few weeks to get used to being a "grad" before we sail!

Have a good end to the year!

Hi guys!

All kinds of exciting news! We could use some banners ets., so that we can surprise the grads, even if it just a few of them.

Our son graduates from college next year on May 14, and today, Wes surprised us all by booking the 14 day Western. It leaves May 14! Our son keeps saying he would not miss this cruise for anything since it is probably a once in a lifetime chance and since he plans on going to med school, we will see him graduate then! Still, the guilty pangs are there! We also booked a 4 day Wonder in June of next year along with our new granchild that will be "dipping in the Mickey pool" age!

We didn't get our docs yet:(

We will need to make a list of things to bring, then we can figure out who can bring what. Remember, we are driving, so I should have plenty of room to bring "stuff".

Also got my doc's yesterday from my local travel agent!!:Pinkbounc Can't wait for my first DCL cruise!! Anyone out there have a 8 yr. old son who is kinda shy. My DS is 8 and loves Playstation games, Yu-Gi-oh cards and other typical stuff. Would love for him to meet a friend on the ship as he is feeling apprehensive about going to the kid's club alone. Any advice or reply's appreciated. Thanks

Aliwas,

My youngest ds is 9. He also loves Playstation, Yu-Gi-oh, etc. He's a bit apprehensive about going to the clubs as well. Best thing to do is go to clubs the first night. Friendships are usually formed on first few nights. We have late seating but we're planning on attending the meet in the Promenade Lounge at 10pm. This will be our third Disney cruise and I think my children were the only ones that didn't like the clubs. Of course, when oldest ds was 14 and could go to Teen Club that all changed. We hardly ever saw him. I'm hoping our middle ds will do likewise now that he's 13.

aliwas

TootyJane, We also have late seating. Hoping it will work out well for us. I'm going to try and get DS involved early and see how it goes, but I've watched him in social situations and he is unwilling to join groups alone. If he's miserable I won't force the issue and he can hang out with me.

The end of the school year seems to get busier and busier so i asked my husband to call DCL this morning and do some inquiries to why we never got our excursion info, etc. mind you we did book them on 4/27 and the girl said she we send more stuff out which we still haven't received. My cell rings and its DH says they have no records of our excursions and they are no longer available. OMG. After a few , please fix this. someone was able to rectify this but if we hadn't called we wouldn't have known this until we got on board. I am not to happy with DCL right now! It seems everyone tells you something else and no one seems to know how to do their job. Well thanks, i just needed to vent !

Denise,

I'm always worrying about things like that happening. You book so far ahead and spend so much money, you just want everything to go right. I'm glad you were able to get it taken care of. I had them fax me a confirmation when I booked our excursions. My kids only have 3 1/2 weeks left of school and it really is busy around here too. I'm sure this time is going to go by fast. I just can't wait since it's our first cruise!! My kids have never even been on a plane before. We usually drive on vacations.:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

No docs yet, but did get the banana boat confirmation today. Can't believe we are just weeks away, not a year or months.
The girls are starting to get excited, and the older one of course wants to go clothes shopping (ugh, not my favorite.) Hoping to put that off just a little longer, and hoping more nice dresses will be on the sale rack then after the prom season is over.

Aliwas,

I have a son who turned 8 in the beginning of April. He also, likes PS2 and Yu-Gi-Oh. My older son will be 11 at the end of May. He is more into sports and Boy Scouts.

Our travel docs have arrived, but I have not gotten to AAA to pick them up.

We scheduled all our excursions and have some surprises for the boys.

Hi Aliwas,

On the last cruise (2002), he spent less than 2 hours per day in the club. He would rather be with us than in the club. We are hoping that he decides to spend more time in the clubs and meet other children his age. Maybe we can get the two together. It sounds like they have the same interests.

I'm hoping that my ds will decide to go to club. I told him he should at least give it a try and he said okay. Perhaps we can get them together at the DIS meet at 10pm in the Promenade?

On the other side, no docs here yet :( but I'm not worried. We also got our Banana Boat confirmation two days ago. Dh and two youngest are going on that with my brother and niece.

The Jefferson picture sounds like a terrific idea. What do you guys do at Jeff?

As far as the grads celebration is concerned, I am open to suggestions but would offer a few of my own. If you find the stateroom rendezvous appealing we would volunteer ours 8014. then have the grads meet us there at a specified time, preferrably in the afternoon of the first day at sea, Monday. Since they will all be eighteen, I think, we could all meet at a specified time at Quiet pool. I will inquire about arranging for soft drinks and a cake. Deck 7 aft is a meeting place for teens but the people on the ship put the kebash on that several cruises ago when the meetings got to boisterous. But its a thought...

This trip we may actually leave at 4 AM on 6-17 and make the trip in one day as we have in the past. (14-15 hours driving) since my dw isn't making me see patients in the morning that day. That means we will need to make an extra day in Orlando, though. If we stick to our original plan we will be bunking at the Hampton on 6-17 and press on to an ovenight stay at Old Key West Friday. WRH3MD
05-23-2004, 10:01 PM
Rose, it takes about six hours to get to Port Canaveral from the HI in Savannah. Interestingly, it is almost exactly the same amount of time to get to WDW from Savannah. Done it many times. It takes a little under an hour to get from WDW to the terminal on the Greenway and Bee line from OKW, assuming no significant traffic delays.

We like to get into the terminal at DCL by ten, get checked in and wait in the line so we can get on right away. We dash off to lunch and then go get in line for surial and Palos. This year ds and dd will both be 18 so I am going to make ressies for all four of us at Palos.

For all you newbies: once on the ship they will hit you up for soft drink and beer packages. If you plan on drinking a lot of soda the soft drink package is a deal. If you like beer it's OK but I've never gotten it. Then they will hit you up for the wine packages. They are a bit pricey but if you like wine you will enjoy it with meals. What you don't drink off the package you get to take home when you leave the ship. And if you do not finish the wine they will cork it for you and bring it to you the next meal. Palo and surial bath ressies fill up quick. So do many of the spa treatments, massages, etc. So dispatch a responsible adult to set those up. A coordinated effort will pay dividends. Ordering a bottle of champange for the room when you arrive is a nice touch. It makes the mandatory safety drill more tolerable.:drinking1
