Hi All!

Hard to believe that I have been sporting this WISH clippie for 6 months and have I have done NADA. ANYWAY, with a Dr's visit and a WDW trip looming in my very near future, I guess I need to get off of my duff and doing SOMETHING.

What I was thinking was to give myself a good weight loss jump start by doing the Atkins Induction for 2 weeks (or as long as I can) to get some pounds off of me quickly. I have been reading about the program, and it is something that I THINK that I might be able to try for a little while.

But THEN, I thought that maybe I would go into something that would be a but more managable for me - a more tradional program ie: Weight Watchers.

If I were to do so, would I gain back what I had (hopefully) lost doing the Atkins? Should I just not even give the Induction phase a try if I am not willing to keep going into the rest of the Atkin's phases?

I am really torn. :( I would really like to see a nice loss in a couple of weeks, but don't want to go to the effort if I going to regain it immediately.

Any thoughts?

I am a new poster here, but I have been on Atkins for six months now, and hope to stay on it forever. (Not at induction forever, of course!)

When I started, I told my husband I was going to try it seriously for two weeks, then decide. My experience was that at the end of two weeks, I felt so much better that I WANTED to keep going. I had lost weight, I felt pretty energetic, but best of all, I had lost a lot of the food cravings and hunger feelings. I got hungry at normal times, but I didn't CRAVE sweets or carbs. I was eating enough to be full, and never felt deprived. I still don't feel deprived, and I am coming to the realization that this way of eating works for me.

So try it for two weeks. If you feel better and want to keep going, you will!
Good luck!!!

Most people (myself) re-gain lost weight because we go back to old eating habbits. Weight Watchers works. Atkins works. It's once you go off--remember what you learned and be careful. Weight gain is a sneaky thing.

Hi, Beth!

I have no idea how going off induction and then starting WW will effect you. I would think that 2 weeks on induction would really get you to that place where most of our Atkins buddies are - the no hungry, lots of energy, hey I can live with this zone! :)

Losing weight is SOOOOOO much mind over matter. I know whatever you decide to do will be something YOU can stick with and something that will make you feel good and stay healthy! :)

If you take out the Dr.'s appt. and the WDW trip, would you be wanting to get started on a healthy eating program right now? :) I'm just asking because there is no reason to NOT do it right now, trips or dr. appts. or not. RIGHT NOW is the best time to get started, because RIGHT NOW puts you closer to your goal.

I started in March... I shudder to think of how I would feel now if I hadn't started back then, and I don't know what in the world kept me from starting BEFORE March! :) DH didn't start with me, but he started in April (we followed WW) and he is so happy that he started. I'll tell you what, once you get into a groove, you just don't want to go back to the willy-nilly way of eating again.

GOOD LUCK! :) I hope someone with some Atkins background can come along and give you a better answer than I did! ;)

Thanks for your thoughts! :) Sounds as if it will not be harmful at least to give it a TRY (and who knows? Maybe I will want to continue Atkins after as well. :) ). But like Tig says (and I DO know VERY well) it is STICKING with SOMETHING that will be the ultimate answer.

Karen, even WITHOUT the Dr. appt and vacation ahead, I DO think that I am desiring to lose SOME weight. I HOPE so, at least. I am on blood pressure meds (as much related to heredity as to weight though) and may need to go on cholesterol meds too. I have not put on any weight in the last year, but I have reached my mid 40s, and things seem to be "shifting" and are even less attractive than they were a couple of years ago.

I would really like to look and feel better, and perhaps improve my health "numbers" as well. And like cleaning your house when company is coming - sometime we really need a motivator to get things done. So if the Dr's appt and vacation can get me started, hopefully success will keep me going.

So I think that tomorrow will begin Day One of Atkins. One day at a time.

WISH me luck. :)

Hi Beth,

I had the exact same plan! Start with Atkins and move to WW as soon as I had a jump start. I have been on Atkins for over 3 months now. I like the way I feel and the fact that when I am in full Atkins mode, I'm not hungry.

I agree, any plan is a good plan and you just need to find the one that is right for you.

Whatever you decide, we will be here for support! Good Luck :)
