Myself, I am a newbie and only have 150 at BWV, But I am curious as to how many points the rest of you have.
Please post your total of points and where you own. I think it will be interesting to see how addictive the DVC really is.

Hi there

Our home is the BWV we bought into DVC in 1997. We first bought 150 points, then we added on in 1999 with a additional 250 points. Have a great disney day.

Started with 150, but will officially have 50 more for a total of 200 on July 14th. For those of you who may know me...if you see me with DBF don't mention the 50 points. He never saw a need for them, we had a little tiff and he wasn't speaking to me so I went shopping. Oh, we're all made up now, but I don't see a need to tell him about my little shopping spree! Hey some women go to the mall when they're upset......this was kind of like that!;) :) :p

Check with Maistre Gracey though, I think he owns a bazillion points at VWL, and maybe a half a bazillion at Vero.;) :)

We went on our first tour in 1995. Being fairly newlyweds we decided there were other things we needed at the time. Another trip to Disney in 1997, 2000, 2001, and finally our trip to Disney in 2002 and a another tour convinced us it was way past time to buy. We purchase 150 points at the BCV in September with an April use year. We really wanted Boardwalk but Disney was not selling Boardwalk in September. We made our first trip "home" in May 2003 to the Beach Club and since we knew they were selling Boardwalk again we purchase another 100 but at the Boardwalk.

We would still like an additional 50-100 points but need to finish paying for what we have first. Maybe next trip.

We are planning our next trip home for May next year hopefully staying 10-12 nights.

We sold our 180 OKW points last year and bought 200 BCV points, and then we added on 100 after that. So, yeah, I guess we are at 650!

Interesting thought.....I wonder how many most of us started with? I don't know how to do polls but maybe someone else would like to inquire.

We have a meer 382 -- 150 at BWV and 232 at HH. A pale number by comparison to others. I have no doubt we'll be increasing that number. :teeth:

Because now you want more, don't you??????

As soon as I started reading threads on this board a year or so ago, I started to salivate over add-ons. It's a disease, really, an infectious one and my DH who is an ID Doc says there is no cure. Boo hoo. :(

We initially purchased 170 BWV in 1999 and just this month added 30 BWV and 200 BCV for a total of 400. And I don't think we're done yet. (Hope my DH isn't reading this!) We've just started to explore the possibilities with our DVC points.

But if I want more points....I'm going to have to go back to work because we have college tuitions looming in 4 and 6 years and then another one in 15 yrs on top of 3 weddings. Ouch.

I've been home with my toddler these past 2 years dreaming of ways to buy more and use more points. I've got to get with the plan! First there's real life and then there's DVC....or is it the other way around????? ;)

310 for us - 160 at VWL in 2001 and 150 at BWV in 2002. I keep eyeing these 150 resales at OKW that crop up from time to time.

310 is working pretty well with us, these days. But I'd sure like to have a few more points to play with come retirement.

Tell you what I'd like to know - out of the tens of thousands of DVC owners, what is the "average" number of points owned? I'm sure that's a bit of info that DVC wouldn't want to share.

We have 300 points at Hilton Head. We've never been there though. We never have enough to spare from our trips to WDW. We will have to add on in the next couple of years since we will no longer be able to go at our regular time. Our son is getting to the age when he will not be able to take a week off from school. That OK though, you can never have enough points!

I am not sure since I haven't read all the posts as yet but we may be the winners at 1298. We want to sell our 290 pts at BWV but haven't gotten around to it yet. I do have to say that the Beach Club purchase was impulsive but we do love it there.

Here's the official count:
OKW 558 ( in three contracts)
BWV 290 ( one large outrageous contract)
BCV 300 ( In three one hunded point contracts)
Vero 150 ( in two 75 pt contracts)

I think if i don't sell BWV my DH will divorce me. I would like to sell privately to avoid the high brokers fees but don't know how.
Anyway, we are happy DVC'rs and go whenever we get a chance which isn't often enough.

I'm sure you can sell your points privately. There's proabably a time-share website on which you can do that....maybe TUG? People buy used cars privately all the time. All they'd have to do is get a small equity loan. I'm sure there folks out that would snap them up in a minute. I've seen many 300 pt contracts go by resale quickly.

Good luck.

I know someone did include the maximum # of pts allowed, both in total and at any one resort.

I think the reason why they put constaints on the max is to inhabit corporations from buying up large numbers thereby changing the complexion of DVC into a "business" rather than a "family" vacation resort.

250 BWV pts. (3 contracts)
125 BCV pts. (1 contract)

Total - 375

I'd love to have more points, but the prospect of more dues has kept my checkbook closed. (So far, anyway. ;) )

By the way, icy-dog, I think when Laurajean said "Not me" she was answering the OP's original question of "Who on this board has the most points." I had to stop to think about it too. :D

Well you beat us! You are the champ! We only have 1252 (LOL)

I wish I had bought at Vero when it first opened. We just bought 150 last month so we could get a BC in the spring. We go to Vero every year and have had no trouble booking at 7 months, until now. We have to factor in vacations with grandkids when school is out and since we don't get passes anymore Disney World for a family is very very expensive. So we need more Vero pts.

I can't beat the top person, but can gladly say that I am an owner. We own 150 pts@ BWV and 174 pts@ HH. BWV was our original purchase, we then added on 100 pts @ HH, then just recently added on another 74 pts. I had a choice of going with the 74 pt contract or a 61 pt. Now, I am not stupid, so talked dh into getting the 74 pts. We originally called about getting a 50 pt add-on and ended up with 74 pts. A couple of month later, the whole BWV sales started again and regretted the HH deal, wish I knew what was going to happen, but have since gotten over my regrets and am busy planning vacations... I would love more pts, but in my current situation, I will be holding off and thankful that I can afford what I have now. The add-on bug sure does hit you, but reality can hit a little harder;)

Okay, what is the max # of points allowed? I know 2000 is one of the #'s, but is that the max total points or max # of points at any one resort?

We have relatively few points....162 at BWV and 38 at VWL for an even 200 total. I'd really like to double that...or maybe go up to about 500.

But our dues are a painless $66 a month.....so there are advantages to not having too many points. Thing is, we're averaging $300-$1000 a year in cash reservations as well....so another add on might actually be a more sesible thing to do. After we get ouselves a house, that is.

I think the maximum is 2000 points at any resort, and 5000 maximum points total per person. A married couple could conceivably have 10,000 points between them, provided each contract is only in one of their names. If they own the points jointly, then they are considered 1 person & would face the 5000 point limit.

That's exactly correct. Only my wife appears as owner of our points and only her name will appear on add-ons up to the 2000 point limit for one resort. Then only my name will appear as owner for those points we add-on over her 2000 points.

I'm still looking for a couple of 200 point resales at OKW but I'm having a hard time with current pricing. Our average price paid per point is less than $55.00, we're old timers like some other posters on this thread.

In 2001 we bought 250 points. We eventually wanted to add points and then split them between the children but discovered that we could not add paints and then split to have two 150 minimum properties. To solve the problem we purchased another 250 points in 2002. Now each child will get 250 points.

We've been owners since January 1995 and have always used all of our points until this year. We've rented a few times and we'll continue to rent some of our points until 2006 or 2007 when we'll be retired and using all of the points we have for extended stays in a one-bedroom at OKW. Our goal is a stay from mid November through early March.

230 OKW - Resale at $58 / pt. - 2 years ago....

then 150 OKW - Resale at $65 / pt - December 2002 (jumped on because points starting to go up)

and then couldn't stand it and got
160 BCV - $74 w/MB (We got married at Y&BC, so it reminds me of a happy day ;)

Having said that, every time I add on, I've been laid off !!! FYI - I'm a computer consultant in Chicagoland area, and need a job if you know of one ;)

So I have to proceed cautiously if I ever get another contract, and plan for the unemployment, as well as the purchase. LOL.

I still consider myself a newbie. We bought 170 points at BWV through resale in February 2001.

Then we just bought a 100 point add-on at BWV for a total of 270.

Because of dues, I don't think we could afford much more points.

I hope that's enough to get by for a family of 4.

So far we've only stayed at GF and Contemporary with points and this year will be our first time 'home'!! Looking forward to it very much!

I'd like to try BC next year and WLV the year after that, hopefully!

Hi Icy, we saw it coming. One the purchase price was bound to escalate (which it did) and that our initial purchase of 1000 points would be used up quickly during the course of a use year and rather than face the frustration of 'running' out of points we went back the day after our initial purchase and maxed out at 2000. I was lucky enough to be able to afford it and felt this was a second home which would be used for tax purposes and also full the need for a place in WDW almost any time I wanted. The sales guide said to us oh you are now members of the '2000 point club' because at the time we were one of the few who had that many points. It's nothing official.

We usually save our points for an annual DCL cruise with or withou a WDW stay, a week for spring break, a two week break in August before the the kids go back to school and send my wife's folks down for a week in Sept.

There have been times when we have had to borrow points believe it or not. But most of the time we end up with a surplus of a hundred points or so.

I hope that answers your questions. DVC was the best investment I ever made and guess what...It's paid for! Wes

a second home which would be used for tax purposes

Really? You can claim Orlando FL being your 2nd home for tax purposes? What does it mean? Do you file tax returns as a FL resident, getting driver's license, getting FL resident discount?

Just curious.

Thanks:D

mitros
07-09-2003, 11:16 AM
You can use your tax portion of your dues as a tax deduction on a condo. I guess that can be considered a "second" home. I beleive it is the same as a property tax deduction for your home on your federal tax.

Debbie H
07-09-2003, 11:44 AM
I hope I have not ignited a controversy here. When you purchase a DVC membership you get a deed on Fla. property at LBV. You own, in our case, about 10 square feet of one of the buildings, i forget which one, and the deed says that. Well, if it's a legal deed from the state of Fla, then it can be considered a second home according to my accountant in 1992. We deducted the interest on the mortgage as one(at least at the time) was able to do under then current tax laws. The DVC people are forbidden by law to mention any of the tax implications so it was up to my accountant to give me the official okey-doke. He had no problem with it. I claimed it as a second home which I happen to share with a whole bunch of friends. At the time it seemed like a no-brainer and still does. Hope my accountant and I were correct. Wes

That sounds great. we have points all over the place, OKW has the most then BWV, then BCV and then a measly 150 in Vero. We usually vacation when school is in session since we are retired. This makes the points go a little further. We are going in the beginning of December in a two bdrm OKW with SILs and in April with my Stepkids and grandkids in a BC in Vero. My kids went in March for a few days at OKW and we are sending another set to Vero for a needed vacation at the beach in an INN room. We are also going down for a week after Labor Day to a standard one bdrm at BWV. We didn't even know about these standard rooms untill I started to get involved with the forums.

With all this we will still have points left over for something else. Not too shabby I believe. I still wish I had bought all those points when you did. I love OKW and could have "survived" just going there. Your cost per point is so cheap that you will make a big profit, which is unheard of in Timeshare.
All our pts are long since paid for too, especially OKW, which it turns out was the bargain of the century!

I just thought of a related question...do you ever feel that you may have too many points and won't find time to use them all in a given year?

We just added 100 to our 170 at BWV and there's 4 of us and I'm afraid we'll keep carrying over so many that by 2005 or 2006 we'll have SO many points. I know I know, we can definitely use them on a bigger room or at the GF or something like that, but do any of you worry about this? Do you rent them out if this happens?

I'd rather have too many than too few! Don't get me wrong!

We live in NE and only go once a year. There is no way my DH would want to go more than that, although I'd LOVE to go by myself or with the girls someday but there's airfare to consider.

Can't wait to play it all out. I've already planned this year and next year and I'm working on 2005!;)

Our plan, is and when we find we have too many points..... Is to then start treating ourselves to a 3 or 4 day stay at various WDW resorts before moving into our 2 bedroom Villa via DVC. We loved the Poly, cant wait to stay at AKL, and we feel that this will help keep WDW fresh...... and burn excess points quickly! LOL

Well, I was waiting to report our total until we finished with our resale add-on purchase. A long story but the whole deal fell through. Anyway, we have two 150 point contracts at BWV for a total of 300 points. Would have liked to have had the additional 200 points that we were trying to purchase via resale but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. So I guess you could say we are in the lower end of points ownership according to this thread. The good news is that our dues are exactly $100.18 per month.

That's right, I'm gettin' into DVC by purchasing a 75 point resale. Believe me, it's all that I could get out of my Disney-challenged wife! Mai Ku Tiki, I have actually tried to figure this out. We now have 650 points at BCV and OKW, which I guess is just enough for a 1 BR in for the month of January! Not that we will ever do that. I made up a spread sheet and figured a 2.5% increase per year in the dues. When we retire in around 2010, our dues will be approximately $237 a month, and the point purchases will be paid for. Not bad. Of course, if you look ahead to 2041 and $510 per month it's not so good. But I figure we won't be paying them anymore by then, our daughter will! Diana
