Circuit City has a portable DVD player with a 5 inch LCD screen on sale right now. Should be suitable for most vehicles. $299.00 .
you can buy it online.
While I don't have one of these, I have a combo tv/dvd and it has saved us lots of grief on our 8 hour drived to WDW and other places. This will be a real life saver.
just and FYI!!!

You can also get a free DVD after rebate if you purchase the movie at the same time. I am so tempted by this offer...

We got one and DD who is 6 used it on our drive from Florida to Tennessee and back, and it was wonderful!
Also, I bought her a bunch of used Disney DVD's from amazon.com -- beats paying full price! Got a Mainstays brand case that holds 10 DVDs in the clearnance at WalMart for $2.
Not once did we hear, "Are we there yet?" or, "I'm bored!" She did not watch, non-stop or anything, though. She enjoyed seeing everything, too.
I say go for it!

Is this a dvd in a bag. If not, how can you secure them in your car? We have a SUV. Is there you could buy a bag that you could use with this dvd player.

Ok, I know this is going to sound like a stupid questions but I have to ask. Do you need to plug these into car lighters or something or do they run on batteries.
We are taking the auto train and I thought this would be pretty good entertainment for the 2 kids if we brought this but not sure how it would work.

From the Curcuit City website:
"Let Audiovox keep your family entertained on those long trips! This video system hangs on the back of the front seat to keep your backseat passengers enthralled for hours. It plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3s, and promotes peace and family harmony. Plug it into the cigarette lighter of your car, or use the AC adapter for those rainy days at the beach. It even has a wireless remote control and headphone jack. Hear that? It’s the sound of silence."

Walmart has a 7" for $278. We bought one for our upcoming trip. Great picture! It comes with the car adapter and a rechargeable battery.
As for securing it - you can buy a bag called "suspension theater" that hangs it between the two front seats (pricey item though).
I bought some straps at a local Eastern Mountain sports and am securing it to the center console tray in my minivan. it fits great there, and the straps hold it in place fairly secure. I was originally going to velcro it to the console - but didn't find the kind of velcro straps I was looking for.
I had seen other bags that let you put it on the back of one of the front seats, but I have 2 kids that need to be able to see it, and at that angle, sometimes the screens are difficult to see for the person who isnt in the seat behind it.
