I realise that a lot of people think it a bit of a waste, but we have decided to use up some spare points we will have to stay at the Grand Floridian for a couple of nights next year.
I am a bit unsure how this works, can we book at the 11 month window as if it is our home resort, and is this still done through DVC or do we deal with the hotel direct.
Any help would be appreciated

You can book any non-DVC Disney hotel up to 11 months in advance using points. You do it through Member Services.

I don't think it is a waste at all. I haven't used them at resorts yet, but for extra points, its great. I am making a reservation for one night next week today, my first choice will be BWV, its just me and the wife for a night after dropping off the daughter at horse camp. If BWV is not available, my next choice will be one night at a monorail resort.
If it weren't for points, we wouldn't even consider a stay like this.

I do not think it's a waste either!! Richyams is right! Staying at the GF is awesome! After having stayed there on cash ressie, BELIEVE ME, using points won't seem so bad!! It's kinda pricey but a GREAT way to experience a luxury WDW resort. We'll be there in November. Have a blast! ;)

Thanks for the quick response everyone, I think I will go for it as long as the point requirement does not go up too much for next year :D

I don't think it is a waste of points either. My two boys love the campground. On our last trip we booked a cabin for one of the nights just to satisfy their need to do the campfire and Hoop-Dee-Doo Review.
That is what is great about DVC, it is flexible to satisfy almost everyones desire to do something a little bit different each stay.

Did Rich really write: "I am making a reservation for one night next week today, my first choice will be BWV"? There must be something wrong with my internet connection. It's inexplicably substituting BWV for OKW ;) .
