Home!

After a week being spoiled silly on a gorgeous new cruise ship, with the most wonderful dinner menus every night and lots of fruity drinks to keep cool in the Caribbean sun, we're back to the real world. I've got suitcases to unload, mail to sort, sleep to catch up on. But I had to sneak a quick peek at the WISH board first!

I hope everyone had a good week. I've missed you!!!

(I have no idea how much weight damage I did this week, but it was worth it!:p )

(I posted a *very* mini trip report on page 2...)

(update.......)
Here are some photos from the trip... (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289851055&code=5640185&mode=invite)

Welcome home, cutie. We missed you while you were gone.

As long as it was worth it, then any weight gain is irrelevant. I'm sure you did no permanent damage.

WISH just isn't the same without you, sweetie, I'm so glad you are back with us again.

Spoiled now, that sounds delightful. Nothing like a cruise to do that for ya! Good to hear that you had a great time - couple of times I have stopped and thought "now wonder what KathyTx is doing right now on that wonderful cruise"!

Can't wait to hear about the miles you put on those walking shoes and how it was doing the WATP workout on a floating surface :teeth: Okay, okay I won't ask.............. we'll just wait to see if they are mentioned in your trip report.

Glad you're back - did miss ya!!

Now I've started to catch my breath and get back into the swing of real life... Whew! Relaxing is really hard work!

We had a wonderful time. We sailed on Holland America's Zuiderdam, and she's really beautiful. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale and spend a day exploring that beautiful city. (So clean! So many yachts! So many people with tons of money!)

Our room was lovely, and very spacious. The food- yummmmmy. There's this warm Chocolate Volcano Cake served with whipped cream- to die for. I had it twice! The food- lobster, caviar, escargots, incredible steaks, salmon, great coffee, pastries and desserts and hors d'ouvres every time you turn around. And, of course, cocktails! Definitely not WISH menus, so I have some penance to do this week.:p

We sailed to Key West. I took a flight in a WWII vintage biplane- awesome! I felt like the Red Baron- the wind in my hair, incredible views of the water, the town, the ship. I could even spot sharks and stingrays in the water from the plane.

Here we are after the flight. It took me hours to wipe the grin off my face. I LOVED this little plane!

A couple of things I love about cruising- the chance to meet new friends at dinner, and to get dressed up and treat dinners as really festive occasions. It's like you have a little party every evening!

We got really lucky with our tablemates- we all had a great time together, lots of laughs and fun every night. Here's a photo of me, uncharacteristically cleaned up and sparkly for a formal dinner:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid66/p3cfb82f21ae8b91923bbe1a28315165e/fbdd7e39.jpg

We shopped in Cozumel (we honeymooned there 13 years ago, so we reminisced some, too.) We swam with the stingrays in Grand Cayman. (They're really gentle, and so silky-smooth and soft!) We sunned and snoozed on a private island in the Bahamas.

The staff on this ship is Filipino, Indonesian and Dutch. Everyone was very friendly and gracious, and really makes you feel like a welcomed guest. You'll feel pretty spoiled at the end of a Holland America cruise.

Exercise? Bev, I thought about you, but I never did exercise! I strolled the decks leisurely, but I never power-walked. I brought my WATP DVD, but I always opted to chill out to Jimmy Buffett tunes rather than sweat with the walkers. Are you disappointed? Can you forgive me?:p

It looks like I'm up two pounds. I did LOTS more than two pounds worth of drinking and partying and desserting, so I'll happily attack it and try to get back in the groove this week.

Thanks to all my sweet loser friends for the warm welcome back! You make me feel all warm and smiley inside!

Kathy, you look RADIANT!! Beautiful, gorgeous, hubba hubba!!! I LOVE the picture of you in the biplane, you are beaming!!!!!! I can tell you enjoyed that very much. How cool that you saw SHARKS!!!! We were in the Ft. Lauderdale area Sat. afternoon and loved it (I want to move there!) You are right about the yachts and money, big time!

And the picture of you all dressed up on your verandah, you look STUNNING!!! Thanks for this mini trip report. Congrats on only gaining 2 teeny little pounds. I'm so glad you "let your hair down" and enjoyed your cruise. You are going to lose those two pounds and more in no time!!!

Welcome back and if you feel like sharing any more details or pictures, GO FOR IT! :) heh heh heh!

WOW!!! This is what I have been waiting for! I almost sent you a PM about a trip report. It looks like you had just an amazing time!!! and you look absolutely FABULOUS!!! I love the dresses you wore for the formal nights. and the smile you are wearing after the flight in the plane is wonderful. You can tell how much you enjoyed the flight. Thanks for sharing these photos, I think they are wonderful. I have to say my favorite is the one where you are up in the airplan in key west looking at your ship. That was a view very few people get, how absolutely amazing! Glad you had a great time.

Everyone's said it- you look absolutely GLOWING/RADIANT!!! That dress is PERFECT on you and makes you look like you don't have an ounce to lose!!! And I am just THRILLED that you only gained 2 pounds!!! That gives me such encouragement for our vacation- to think I could eat two lava fudge cakes and only gain 2 pounds- I'd be all over that!
I'm gonna try and view your other pictures- I want to see that swimsuit!! :) My secret dream has always been to learn how to fly- my father flew small planes (Cessna/Piper's) when I was little and I can still remember what a JOY it was to be up there so close to heaven. What an amazing vacation you had- and you're really talking me into a cruise- I'm so claustrophobic and need my space but your balcony looks very roomy- would you recommend cruising with/without kids? Have you done the Disney cruise?

Welcome back sweetie!
Tara

Thanks for all the sweet compliments- I'm blushing!!!

Um, Tara- you're not going to see any swimsuit pictures. Not in this lifetime!!:p You're exactly right about the thrill and joy of the small planes. I would love to learn to fly, too.

There are so very many different cruise lines and ships out there, and they each have a distinct personality and feel. There was nothing claustrophobic about this trip at all. Take a good look at stateroom photos and layout diagrams before you book anything, just to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Some cruise lines/ships are very family-friendly, some are not. This ship was- good kids' program and lots of activity. Disney does the family thing really well (of course!), and I hear that Royal Caribbean does too. We've done Disney with the kiddo, and loved it. Done Princess without the kiddo- enjoyed it. There were kids on this cruise, and they seemed to be well-behaved and well entertained.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures!!

Oh - I was drooling.....my DH doesn't have the desire to cruise anymore - I am making him look at those pix! You (and DH) looked like you were having the perfect time! Hooray for relaxation - it sure brings out the very best in you!

No need to ask for my forgiveness - I knew all along that WATP tape would never surface :p I seem to remember that I voted "no" on taking it (Oh excuse me here, I forgot that OhMom is my only DD and I was taking on the DM lecturing voice, now wasn't I) he he.... anyway - you deserved a break and only to gain 2 pounds with all that great sounding food (did you have key lime pie?) adult beverages, etc. - good job!

And, the pix that has the WACO plane symbol, do you know anything about that? I am thinking that it might have been built in Troy, OH. There is a WACO factory and just recently they are putting together a museum. (Will try to take some pix for you) I will check it out when I have some time (I grew up in Troy, my mom still lives there and only about 20 minutes from my present home)

So glad you are back with us and you do look fab - u- lous!!

Bev, that is indeed the same WACO! It was the Weaver Aircraft Company, and they built airplanes from the 1920s until just after WWII in Lorain and then Troy, Ohio. After that, they just manufactured parts and engines. How cool that you're from that place! These little planes are quite well-known and very popular among biplane enthusiasts. Which is pretty amazing since they haven't been built in about 60 years.

Thanks for not ribbing me TOO bad about the exercise. You're welcome to "mother" and lecture all you want (even though I'm not *nearly* young enough to be your daughter:p !)

kathy - i didn't get to read your mini-trip report yet, but glanced through your pics. You look fantastic!! And sooo happy! You should feel superific about yourself, you look beautiful and had such a fab vacation!

If I can go on my vacation in Dec and come back ONLY 2 lbs heavier, that will be a definate success! Way to go enjoying yourself and indulging in things that aren't there everyday and not feeling guilty, just enjoying that moment and then getting back to reality afterwards. Not that is living to me!
