We are new to DVC, purchased sight unseen at vwl, made a reservation for a studio. Confirmation says something about a lockout...is this a bad thing?

A lock-off studio just means it adjoins a "lock-off" 1BR and the two together can be used as a 2BR villa by unlocking the door between the 2 rooms.

There are no dedicated studios at VWL. There are some dedicated 2BR villas however.

At BWV, there are some dedicated studios- called Studio-Plus which have a day-bed in addition to the queen and sleep sofa.

A lock-off is NOT an inferior room at all. You will have a patio/balcony and all other amenities of any other studio.

Enjoy!

A lock-off is similar to an adjoining room in a regular hotel. Our first trip to BWV was in a studio. The was an internal door that led to the room next door. Since we were only using the studio, the door was locked from both sides - meaning neither party could access the other's room. Disney does this for flexibility. It was probably a one bedroom on the other side of our door. If someone wants a 2 bedroom, Disney unlocks the door between the rooms. The lock-off was a non-issue for us. It caused no problems and we were not the least bit uncomfortable with it. Have a great trip! Our last stay was at WL (not the villas though). It is a beautiful resort.

P.S. If you manage to get that door unlocked, give me a call. I'll be on the next flight down. ;)
