Kelsie,

I accept your challenge, and I look forward to having the encouragement of others here to help motivate me.

I am considering using the Atkins Diet, but need to give some thought to giving up my beloved ketchup.......LOL

Oh well, if I don't make sacrifices, is it really a challenge?

I have never publicly acknowledged my desires to lose weight before, and I hope this is somewhat of an incentive to literally "get off my fat behind", and accomplish it!!

:p

OK, I'll bite. Just one question. Do we have to give the clip art back if we regain any of our weight? {giggle} Just kidding!! I plan to keep on keeping on, even if "I'm not really dieting." That's what I tell myself to keep from feeling deprived -- I'm not dieting. And, I'm really not on a specific diet.

I just decided, one day, to quit eating potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, sugar, and other thngs made with flour. It turns out, as I've done more reading, I've also quit eating corn, carrots, yes, John, ketchup, and other things I've learned are high in carbs. But, this isn't a diet. Somehow, I've had a life change!

It's been four weeks, now, and I feel wonderful!! I can feel the pounds just melting away.

Good luck to you, John, Kelsie, and anyone else checking in. I'm right here with you!

OK, I'm in too. I'm dreading walking the parks looking like I do, so let's do it!

I'm going to start WW tomorrow and come hell or highwater, I'm getting my butt to the gym tomorrow (if I remember how to find it-the gym, not my butt!)

Think thin.....

Lisa,

I too decided to head to the gym.............and some SADISTIC marketing genius built a Krispy Kreme shop between my office and the gym!!!

Does lifting weights really count if you just do it 3 ounces of pastry at a time??

;)

Just kidding.....if I lose my sense of humor.....I would lose NO weight!!!

Okay, I'm in. I'm doing Atkins along with my husband, too bad we don't get retroactive credit for weight loss ;)

I walk a mile twice a day and use my elliptical trainer about 10 minutes a day, I'm working my way up to more (I started with 5 min a day, it's harder than it looks). I will do weight training as soon as my mother is well enough to be left alone for a couple of hours at a time.

I hope the clipart is small enough so that I can add it to my siggie without having to give up Miss Daisy :teeth:

Is this our surprise that we've been waiting for?

I just decided yesterday to join the new Weight Watchers group forming at my nail salon. They're doing the program where a WW person goes to your place of employment. I don't work at the nail salon, but they've invited some of their clients, in order to meet the minimum number of people needed. It starts next week and I'm really excited and looking forward to this :)

So, I am formally joining in the DIS WISH Challenge, too!! :teeth:

Native,

I tried using an elliptical trainer once........ONCE!............it made me look even more uncoordinated than I naturally am!!

It is a tribute to anyone to be able to use them!

Good luck to you!

Great to see everyone here :) And yes Kath, this is it. :)

I think if you join the DIS WISH Challenge and don't lose anything I may make a HUGE clipart that tells everyone what you gained ;) JUST JOKING!

Welcome everyone and I hope to see less ( :teeth: ) of you in the coming months!

Great Idea Kelsie -- Way to go!

I am in! BUT, it will take me awhile to earn that first clippie. I was down to 215 but I've gained a bit since the holidays and as of this morning I am UP to 222 (UGH). I know that I could ask for a clippie when I lose 5 of the current pounds BUT I won't!!!! I refuse to count losing the weight that I've gained back by screwing up. So, for me -- I'll have to 'weight' quite awhile -- until I am down to 210 for my first clippie :( BUT -- I know that I can do it --- and I really think that this challenge is going to help me to do it quicker --- THANKS!

I am doing low carb --- I guess very similar to Atkins. I'm planning to purchase the new Atkins book soon as some more inspiration and I'd also like to purchase Suzanne Sommers new book.

NO Excersize YET ---- but I know it will help to get it off quicker so that treadmill is FINALLY going to come out again!

Yoo Hooooooooo!

Kelsie -- can we get a clippie of some sort to show that we are part of this challenge? Then add our 5 pound clippies as we get to those milestones?

(:D

Count me in! I just started WW today, got my grocery list to go to the store with tonight, and I am determined to lose the extra weight by summer. :) I exercise pretty regularly, mostly walking or running on the treadmill in the winter, but come springtime my exercise of choice is rollerblading. The trouble is I have always had a HUGE weakness for sweets, and I really am trying to cut way down on my intake. :)

Good luck to everyone! Can't wait to see the clipart surprise!

Snoopy - I am the same with sweets!!! OMG!!! :)

There are some great sweet snacks you can eat on WW...even ice cream! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!

There are new 98%Fat Free Klondike Bars....only 2pts each
Starbucks Mocha Fudge Bars Low Fat ....only 2 pts each
and WW has their own desserts in the freezer section, but I find them to be more points than those above.

Not sure if you have those where you live. Also, Entennmans Fat Free Loaf Pound Cake and Raspberry Twist Danish Fat Free are both only 2pts a serving! :)
Hey, I am a sugar lover! LOL!!!!!

Good luck with WW and let me know if I can help! Happy Shopping!

I take your challange, too!! I've been trying to motivate myself to loose some by our June 2003 trip for my son's bday. Since it will be sooo hot then, i want to shed some pounds so I don't look HORRIBLE in cooler clothes!! Might not make it by then, but at least losing a little by then will be helpful. My BIG reason to loose it is for my May 2004 Wonder Cruise!!!!! PLEASE help keep my motivatied!!!!!:teeth: GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

kamgen, I have been looking through the WW "Complete Foods" companion and am just amazed at all the good stuff I can still eat!

I hadn't even thought about Entennmans in years. They make the best stuff! Gonna check out their fat free stuff tonight, thanks for the suggestion!

I forgot to mention my PLAN!! I will follow the WW plan on my own at home. At this time I do not have enough $$ to spend on the program. I was a member last year and still have the points books and caclulater. So I will try to follow that. Less chips and more fruit and veggies. I will also be walking more, on my treadmill, since my son can not be left at home alone and he NEVER wants to go out when I have the time to walk out doors!! hehe.

kelsie, count me in! I'd like to lose 15 pounds before we go to WDW in June, and I need all the incentive and help I can get! I'm a former WW member, so I'll follow WW rules even tho I can't afford to attend meetings right now.

I am down to the "hard lard" now! I have about 15 pounds left to rid of. Weight Watchers and regular exercise is the only way to go!! :p It is an awesome program that really works! I have lost about 50 pounds so far, and then kinda "got lazy" when it got cold. I am back on track now and determined to finish my mindset by May 1!

Congratulations to all on this board for their weight loss goals! I look forward to meeting my goal with all of you!! :p

So can I start when we return from Disney cruise #29 a week from Sunday?!?!
I will be started a four-week stretch of personal training, which I plan to combine with common-sense eating. My goal will be to build up muscle in order to burn off more fat, with 3 to 5 days a week at the health club and workouts inbetween at home on my exercise ball. I am also in a weight loss contest at work that runs until April (but with cruises in March and April too, it's going to be hard!).

Count me in too! I am supposed to be doing WW, but I slacked off a bit. So, this is good incentive to get back on track. tommorow being Feb 1st is a good kick off point, so back on track for WW tommorow!

I also like the idea of Wovenwonders suggestion of a clippie if we are in the challenge. It might get others motivated to join us too, and I know I like the feel of being in a "group" to help keep going on our journey.

Oh what the heck... I am in

I am doing a low carb/Atkins -kinda program. Need to do more exercise.

Too bad it is not retroactive. I have lost 37 pounds since June 2002. I do not have a total goal in mind. I have small goals and take it one pound at a time.

Good luck to all!

Woven... I feel your pain. I was down to 117... feeling good... then fell off the wagon and am back up to 121. My goal is 105 by 5/29/03, when we leave for the Eastern (preceeded by 2 nights at Universal). Dieting is so frustrating! Why does it come back on so much quicker than it comes off

I'm simply counting calories and trying to stay under 1000 per day.

I've got a diet plan recommended by a nutritionist and given to me by my dr. Nothing fancy - cut out red meat as much as possible. no potatoes, no white breads, lots of chicken and veggies.

My biggest obstacle is exercise.

I accept the challenge too. I am in my second week of exercise and eating right. Sweets are my downfall, so I have cut them out.

My first goal is to look good in a bikini by my birthday. My ultimate goal is to lose 27 more pounds.

I'm in. I started my lifestyle change this past wenesday. I'm eating slim fast bars for breakfast (i never ate b-fast) and one for lunch w/ a fruit or raw veggie. And a senisble supper a night. Drinking tons of water and laying off my huge amount of pepsi i was consuming. I still have to drink one or so because my headaches from caffinne are killing me by mid-afternoon. Hopefully that will ease off after my first week and i can stop all together with the soda's. I'm on the treadmill ev/other day only for a mile at the time which is 20 minutes for me just starting. I hope over the next three weeks i can increase my speed to get in more distance in the same 20-30 minutes on machine. I have triplets and I don't have a lot of time to be on it except after I put them to bed so I'll have to step up the pace soon to really make some strides. I weight in on sunday so i'm on pin's and needles hoping the scale tips in my favor.LOL We bought a set of really nice dr's scales from the health care company so I know good or bad there's not doubt with those scales.LOL Hope to get my first banner soon!

My first goal is to loose 20 lbs by the last week in April. My husband and I are going to the TN moutains for a week to celebrate our 9th anniversary and I really want to pull some of my extra off by then. My over all goal is by christmas 160 lbs which is 80lbs total. So a long road ahead but I need to do this to keep up with my kids they will be 3 in the summer and wow do they run me to death!

Going to WDW for our first summer visit, and can't imaging lugging all this extra weight around in the heat! Need to drop more than a few and get in better shape. I'm going with Atkins/low-carb plan. Going to join the gym monday, and somehow will make the time to get there!

Need lots of support! But I know I can find it here at DIS!

I am in too.

I started WW November 2002 and have lost 16 pounds so far. (That met my first 10% goal.) I still want to lose 10 or 15 more pounds. Need to be able to wear a swim suit to the pool party at the Days Inn in Sandusky the Friday night of Riddlecon.

I haven't added any exercise to the diet yet but hope to start walking the track around the soccer fields when my kids start spring soccer.

kendall
02-01-2003, 08:38 AM
going on a cruise in April and definitely would like to drop a few pounds and tone before getting into that swim suit. The plan? I love interval workouts on the elliptical (so much easier on my knees than jogging or stair machines) and weight training to tone. If I could drop 20 pounds, I'd be in heaven. Challenges: Oh, what having children does to one's body....it never is the same! And with each passing decade, it certainly is harder to take off the weight. Add a hysterectomy 1.5 years ago - that just seems to make it harder! If there are any other hyster-sisters out there, I have found great info on the boards at www.hystersisters.com (http://www.hystersisters.com) - and for those dealing with menopause, check out the hormone jungle section!

Thanks for starting this thread - hmmm, now that I have publicly committed, I think I will for sure follow through - I want that clippie!

Thanks Jody for recommending this over on the cruise line board! Thanks Kelsie for starting this.

I'm definately in! Too bad this wasn't months ago, I leave in only 2 weeks, but hey, I've got my 2004 cruise to work for. I also have of course the summer to think about, and my 30 year high school reunion coming up in October. That is a biggy!

I have been doing Atkins type diet since January 2nd, and am proud to say I've lost 13 pounds. Wish it was more, and I've stalled for the last couple of weeks. My goal is to lose 80 more pounds, hopefully by my reunion in October! I need to work on the exersize more. (I spend too much free time sitting on my rear on these boards!)

I'm attempting to loose weight before my March cruise.....27 days....I've lost about 3lbs. this week...(my first week)....and hope to loose quite a bit more before March 1....

I have found a free website that www.fitday.com where you can track the foods you eat...calories, fat, carbs...etc..., exercise, journal, etc.....I'm loving it...makes me check in with someone daily about what I'm eating....

I'm trying to eat between 1200-1400 calories perday and no more then 100g of carbs.....

Count me in too! I started going to a personal trainer 3 days a week in March 2002. So far I've lost 24 pounds without really dieting. Just watching the calories and cut out the pepsi! "Yes, my name is BriarFox and I am a pepsi addict!"

Actually lost 8 pounds in the last 3 weeks by eating more protein and smaller lunches. (I have a job where we take clients out to lunch most days - makes it REALLY hard to diet).

I paid a lot more attention to my measurements - saw almost immediate results from the working out. Lost 4 inches on my waist and went down from a 14 to a 10...almost a 9 now. My trainer swears I'll be in a 8 in time for our cruise!!!! Looks like all that Ab work is paying off!

I REALLY want to be in that size 8 and lose at least 5 more pounds - maybe 10....

For those of you looking for even more of a buddy system one on one and a personal diary for you daily intake and a weight in chart to calucalate your body mass and weight loss together with specific weight in days try slimfast.com. I'm using some of there bars the new garnola is yummy at lunch w/ a hand full of carrotts and water it fills me up to have my sensible lunch. I'm also eating a fruit apple or cantaloupe in the mornings to boost me up. I'm thinking of getting some metabolife has any one tried that? I'm taking my one a day vitamins too. Just thought i'd throw the slim fast sight on the board it's great to journal everything and I have two buddy's there that I REPORT to each day and it lifts me up a bit.

I am using "Body for Life" as a guideline (started Jan 6, and have dropped 10.5 pounds so far-so I am hopeful!). This program includes weight training, cardio, and proper diet (5-6 small meals per day) - with one cheat day a week (today is my cheat day she said with a chocolate in her mouth :p ...I have 13 weeks left, and hope to drop another 20-30 pounds by then!

Count me in. I want to lose 20 this Spring. :)

I have already lost 8 lbs. doing Atkins in 3 weeks but I will be going off it. :(

I suppose I am having trouble drinking enough water for this diet. Yesterday I spent the day unable to get out of bed & drinking "Pedialite" to help with my electrolytes. :( It was scary and miserable & not worth missing work or hurting my body for 20 lbs. I don't think it is a bad diet, though. I have had no trouble giving up sugar, pasta, rice, bread & potatoes (which is shocking). I just struggle with water intake and didn't supplement like the book says to (& DD said we should do that too). :o

I'll be cutting back on carbs and still watching those. But, I lost 21 lbs. a few years ago doing "weigh down"--I may rethink doing it that way now that I have a bit of a "jump-start."

Good luck to everyone. :)

Please count me in----

I NEED to lose 30 pounds.

I plan on walking 2 1/2 miles each day. When I return home I'll go to the fitness center 3 times a week. ( We are in Hawaii for the next month and joining Golds Gym is way spendy).

I will need to use a diet low in protein as I have kidney failure which is steadily progressing. My down fall is drinking pepsi--and as such I wll reduce my pepsi consumption in half. ( My kidney doctor wrote my mom a note saying pepsi would not hurt me or my kidney---geez I'm 50 ----but my mom was worried for the fact I only have one kidney and she wanted to make sure pepsi wouldn't cause me problems).

I'm going to start---RIGHT NOW----12:30 Hawaii time----. Time to get the pen and paper out and write down everything I eat.

3 Years ago I lost 54 lbs...and just lately (Well....Christmas in Disney didn't help!) it's creeping back a bit...I have gained back around 5-6 lbs and I get so scared I won't have the willpower to get it back off!!! I actually needed to lose another 15 or so anyway...so 15 lbs would be fabulous!

I already go to a gym 3x a week and watch what I eat all day.....BUT at night!! I 'nibble' and ruin the day! What to do??
I don't think I could do the 'carbs' thing...I really love bread, rice etc... and a big downfall for me??? Cheese!!

Help!?:Pinkbounc

P.S.....I'm going on a cruise March 7th...I really would love some of this off!

Please count me in too. This may be just the incentive I need.

I lost 3 stone (42 lbs) back in 2000 for a trip to WDW, but unfortunately it has all crept back on when my back was turned. How on earth did that happen?

I used to go to WW, but thought I could lose the weight on my own. I couldn't. However I probably will not go back because it is too expensive. I have all the books etc, and 'just' need a little motivation. I strongly believe that losing weight has a lot to do with the state of mind. Eating less and exercising more has apparently got something to do with it as well!!l

I promise to weigh myself on the scales I have at work. The challenge has been set. (And I want one of those clip art thingies)

Thanks Kath (Nativetexan) for point me in this direction.

Good luck everyone.

hi there. sounds great... count me in too. I can use some encouragement. Hubby and I started our "behavior modification" diet back in November. I have lost 16 pounds so far.. but after the holidays, it's been at a standstill.

We're looking forward to a "skinny" 7/12/03 cruise.. and our Christmas '03 cruise also.

Count me in...thanks Kath for pointing me in the right direction..I will take the challenge!!

I started Atkins last Monday, today I have weighed in and lost 5 lbs!!! I need to loose another 19 pounts by the end of May when I am going to WDW and graduating Grad school. If I make it I will weigh what I weighed at my highschool graduation :) :) I lost 55 pound on Atkins and went off it 9 months ago...I have since then gained 9 pounds and am no way gaining one more!!!!

So far I have stuck to the diet religiously...drinking 8, 8oz glasses of water...I have been going to PT for my knee so I can't do much exercize...anyone have any ideas on exercize that does not use the knees????

Hey Kelsie...great idea!!

I can't see the cliparts though???

Good luck everyone...I hope we all make our goals!!

Okay! I'm in :p I'd like to lose some weight before I go to Disney in May. I don't know how much I'll be able to lose... I'm hoping to go down by at least 15-20 lbs, but we'll see how it turns out. I started at the beginning of January and I've lost 5 lbs so far (yay!)

I'm going to the gym (minimum of three times a week) and doing 45 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weights ... I'm also parking at the far end of the parking lot and taking the stairs at work (every little bit counts right) :)

Diet-wise ... I'm trying to avoid white bread and rice and eating foods low on the G.I.

:Pinkbounc Can't wait to get some clip-art images! It's so nice to see so many people here :bounce:

I have been dieting about 3 weeks now and lost 7 pounds. I am doing WW and exercising 5 days a week. I do Denise Austin's 2 exercise shows that she has on Lifetime every weekday. I like it because she does stretching, cardio and toning in each show. It has really helped me tone up. I also walk about a mile a day with my dog.

What could be better modivation than a WDW trip???
Well that's what got us up off the couch.
In a renewed effort since the holidays, I have lost about 17lbs.
I have a lot more to go, so our good buddy Richard will be helping us out.
We have been doing the Richard Simmonds blast off diet on and off for a while now. (when we stick to it it works great) After my hubby gained 10 lbs over the holidays we knew it was time to get serious.
We try to excersize at least 4 times a week, but with our busy schedules, it has been working out to 3, but we are working on it.
We have been doing a really (really) old interval training video to get us started, and once we get back into a little better shape we will go back to doing tae bo. (right now I would pass out just doing the warm up!!)
So here's to WDW/Disney Cruise.
When we get there the diet goes out the window!!! (for a week anyway!!!:D

Count me in too :)

Thanks, Kelsie :)

I'm following a new Weight management program based on a best selling book in the UK written by a British doctor.

Her research is based on identifying and avoiding the chemical calories in our food that screw up our metabolism and making some healthy changes.

There's also a safe homeopathic spray that really curbs your appetite! It's working really good so far but I've only been on for three weeks, two of which I spent in WDW eating at all of my favorite places. I'm still down the 4 pounds I lost the first week before going to WDW so I'm pretty pleased that I could eat my favorite foods in WDW and not gain those pounds back. Tonight I'm meeting with a few other people who are doing the same thing and we're starting a little support group.

My next trip to WDW is March 7th so that gives me a solid month to get some more weight off :)

Hang in there everyone :)

Aloha,
Lorraine ;)

I'm in too, please! Lifetime Jenny Craig member and returned yesterday. Went on new meds this year and 10 pounds came on immediately, then the holidays and a cruise.....so now is the time to get this off. I need the structure of Jenny's food, tell me what to eat, give it to me to pop in microwave and that is it. I will exercise 3-5 times a week and hope to be back to normal for WDW Easter trip. It worked well for me after I had the kids. Great timing for this - thanks!:D Good luck everyone!

Just saw the posting on the Canadian Board, so I am in too!

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis several years ago and the only thing that helped was steroids, which was a catch 22...I was so happy to be mostly pain free but SO upset cus I gained 42 pounds in less than a month! I have been struggling ever since to lose that 42 pounds to no avail. I've tried Atkins 3 times and tons of other diets/programs.

This time I am just going to eat healthier and exercise more! I work 4 ten-hour shifts a week, all on my feet so by the time I get home, I am so pooped! But on my 3 days off I will go to my gym and get on that elliptical trainer and do my circuit training every other visit. My problem is the motivation to GET to the gym...once I am there I feel great and love exercising, but getting there is a HUGE struggle with myself.

Thanks for the motivation to get back on track! I will start up on Tuesday :smooth:

Clipart for participation is a groovy idea too! :p

Can I play, too? I started WW one week ago, and had a good first week. Having support like this, available anytime, is terrific.

I did WW a few years ago and lost a ton (well, not a ton, but 50 lbs.!) So I KNOW it can work for me. Over the years I have gained it all back, plus a bit. This time I'll remember to keep the maintenance part going. :(

First week- down 6.3 lbs. Woo-hoo!

I won't know which diet I'll be on, until after my blood sugar tests are taken today! But, it will either be the Carbohydrate Addicts plan or the Diabetics plan by the ADA. I have done the C.A. plan last summer, and it is so easy to follow! Basic rules are...no carbs during 2 meals, and for your 3rd meal you can eat anything, as long as you eat it all within 1 hour! I found that once I cut the carbs (which I am severely addicted to...), I wasn't even 1/2 as hungry as I would normally be! And it didn't hurt knowing that I could eat absolutely anything at dinner! Truly the best plan that I've been on, and I have had my share of them!

We are going on our 1st Disney cruise in December, and I hope to have lost at least 50 lbs. by then, with more to go... My incentive...I don't want my dd to grow up being ashamed of her mommy.

So glad to share this experience with my fellow diser's!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Count me in! Usually I avoid the scale, but will weigh once a week - I want those clippies! :)

A few years ago I lost 30 lbs but gained it back over time and have lost it again. We have a trip scheduled for May/June and would like to go to the water parks. Overall could stand to lose about 75 lbs. My short term goal is to go to WDW and not embarass 2 14 YO's. ;) To be able to drop 2-3 dress sizes would be great!

We are doing Sugar Busters and find it fairly easy to follow, except on the weekends. Here's to doing better!

*sigh* I guess I should be weigh now.

Pugdog007 - - - - - -

I saw your question about what kind of diet curves is, but haven't seen an answer for you.

Curves isn't a diet. It is a gym for women. You have a 30 minute work out 3 times a week. There are different machines you work on for 30 seconds at a time, and walk 30 seconds in between each machine. You do 3 rotations on each machine and your done!! :p

Sounds like everyone is well on track with their weight loss!! :bounce: Congratulations to all of those who have lost weight so far, and for those that haven't - don't get discouraged - keep doing your best, and I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised soon!! Remember - it isn't always the pounds that count - sometimes you will not lose pounds , but will lose inches !! (try to keep a journal of "measurements, you will be surprised!!) Keep up the good work.

Oh, by the way, I have lost 2.5 pounds this week!

Count me in.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in August 2001 and had to lose weight. That went fine and I fairly quickly lost 28 pounds but then had to change medication and put 15 pounds on in about 2 weeks. Very depressing. Another 5 pounds has also been added.

My sugars were very good when I'd lost the weight but are now creeping back up again which isn't good.

I will be following the diabetic diet (which I do anyway) but won't allow myself to cheat as much -- as a chocoholic it's been difficult to give up all sweets but I've just found diet hot chocolate that I can drink so that's great.

This will hopefully get me motivated to lose (again) the 25 pounds and more. I'd like to be much thinner for my cruise in October.

OK,

Today was the first day that I started the Atkins Diet. Any of you who know of this plan, know that the beginning is EXTREMELY restrictive to "shock" your system into obedience.....LOL

Let me share what a continuous wave of temptation I face on a daily basis...............as you could discern from my tag, I work for Sara Lee...in fact , I manage one of their stores. This means that for my ENTIRE day, I am surrounded by baked goods of all varieties!!! Talk about a living HELL for a dieter!!!

I made it today without so much as a wavering, but this will be toughewr than I imagined!!

I'll give it a go. I want to lose at least 10 lbs before our cruise in August. I'm cutting down and using Slim Fast between meals and for lunch. I never eat breakfast besides coffee and OJ. Kelsie, thanks for starting this thread, count me in. I do need to lose weight, but have been ordered by my doctor to do a particular diet for many health reasons (including Rheumatoid Arthritis). My doc is an MD who nearly died from chemical exposure and I've had the same problem. She recommends a diet that is closest to the Neanderthin diet. Low carb, plenty of quality protein, organic fruits and veggies, some nuts, only certain kinds of fat. I did it for a while last year, lost 15 pounds and felt fantastic, now I've got to do it again, for good I hope! Well, there will be breaks when we go to the World! Starting a treadmill program and hoping to lose 30 pounds, and feel good.

I accept your challenge!

I started Weight Watchers last Tuesday, so I won't know how I'm doing until tonight. I THINK I lost some weight, but we shall see.

I've struggled with my weight since I was 12, and it's finally catching up to me -- high blood pressure, aching knees. I need to lose at least 100 pounds (I think we should start the official "Canadian Goose Club" -- honk, honk!)

My latest advice is take up a hobby if you eat in front of the TV. I've been doing lots of counted cross stitch lately. It relaxes me after a stressful day, and I can't eat while I'm doing it because I have to keep my hands clean.

Let you know how I'm doing tomorrow ...

I've lost 40 pounds, but need to lose another 40. Would be great if most of it were gone for our August 30th cruise.

I like a diet called Six Week Body Makeover. I'll do that again. I heard of it through an infomercial - but it is actually a great plan. Very healthy - fruit, vegetables - lots of protein - some carbs - shuns prepared foods so limits chemical additives.

Okay. I've been getting enough "little messages" that I am now committed to the challenge.

While I find it very hard to be on a certain prescribed "diet", can't do Atkins - tried it and got very sick, I am on portion control, limiting carbs and journaling what I eat.

I work at a health club and can work out for free. I will get my measurements done this week. I like to track inches and percentage of body fat but I will weigh in a few weeks. My goal is to lose 20 lbs.

Alright - I'm ready to do it.

Oh my gawd this thread is great!!!!
My hubby is always on a diet and WDW is a great motivation for him!!!! He's a copper and is always talking about how great it was when he first joined 14years ago and was in awesome shape!!WDW seems to be the magic bullet for getting him going and so far he's gone from 245 - 3 weeks ago to 225!!! Steady progress...we leave for WDW in 25 days so the clocks ticking!!! On our trip 3 years ago he went fron 230 to 195 and felt great!!! He's cut out all the carbs, walks to work (4 kms roundtrip) and yes he to struggles with the sweets!!!!I checked out the local health food store and they told me that the sweets craving is caused by low dopamine levels in the brain...this apparently is very easily corrected by herbal supplements...I'am going back to find out more!!! I'll keep you all posted...or hopefully he will...Good luck and good health to you all!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hello, everyone!

Count me in! I started the Atkins yesterday, and have done it before with great success. Unfortunately, it IS a way of life -- not a quick-fix and I have to remember that this time. I've started walking several times a week with a girlfriend and will start some toning exercises with bands so that after the extra baggage is off I might see some muscle!

Yesterday was very hard -- I had a horrendous headache while withdrawing from the sugar, caffiene and carb-laden foods. I have to remember what I will feel a week from now -- more energy, less hungry and happy that I've lost enough pounds to earn my first piece of clipart!

And for PKITTY: Try Chromium Picolinate for the sweet cravings.

mow for this to work you need to change the {} to []

you insert it by going to User CP above...then edit profile, and then scroll about half way down to where it says signature, and insert it where you want it.

to center it you write {center} before the img tag above and {/center} after the /IMG above you also have to change the {} to <>

does that make sense...if not pm and I will walk you through it

Well,

I started the Atkins Diet on Monday morning, and I know you are supposed to only weigh yourself each week (to avoid disappointment probably), but I had an overwhelming need to see if this thing was having ANY results for me so far. I snuck onto the scale this morning....................and I lost TEN POUNDS already!!

I know that it is unrealistic to expect this type of result to continue, but talk about getting POSITIVE re-inforcement that the efforts are worthwhile!!!

:)

I have been VERY strict about following the Induction Phase, and apparently the good Doctor is correct in saying that following it causes your body to switch from burning carbohydrates over to burning fat.

Sticking to the plan, since it appears to be working!

Good Luck all

OK, count me in! I started my diet right after my gall bladder surgery on 1/6. I've lost 6lbs so far.
I'm following the diet reccomendations of my DR, and have started an exercise program at home using a stationary bike, my basement stairs (in lieu of a stairmaster - much more cost effective!), some 3lb dumbbells, and a variety of other exercises.
I was getting my motivation from watching the Body Challenge series on Discovery Health channel, but now that it's over I was looking for some new motivation. This is a great idea! I can't wait to earn my first clippie AND share the process with all of you Dis-ers!
John, your success is really motivating me! If you can manage a Sara Lee store and still lose weight then I know I can do it too!

I take up the challenge too. Three weeks ago I turned the BIG 40! and I know I need to get into a healther lifestyle soooo,
1) I commit to losing those extra pounds with a Low-Carb eating plan, no refined "white" stuff: sugar, pasta, flour, rice etc.
2) I will take my vitamins daily (instead of when I happen to remember them a month later).
3) I will get on my treadmill at least 4 days a week for 30 minutes.

Count me in !!! my wife replied to this message earlier, had she not done so I would never had seen it. I have a severe weight problem because work for the most part consists of sitting, writing and typing. I am a Police officer (14 yrs. 12 hour shifts) and shift work is literally killing me. I can't seem to be able to take off the weight as easily anymore; especially when I have had a busy night and my lack of motivation just isn't there at 2:00 PM when I wake up only to be going back to work shortly. My days off usually consist of having to recover from nightshift.
I look foreword to my DW vacations so much it actually inspires me to stick to the program of my diet. I have lost approximately 18 to 20 pounds since Jan 01 2003, and have more to loose before and after my trip to DW. This may not be for you, but if it is; this is what I have done to loose my weight so far.
first of all I think allot of us perform better when they see quick results. I knew I would and so I spoke with staff at a local health food/herbal store who put me onto a 2-day multivitamin drink that took away about 5-8 pounds right away without depriving my body of essential vitamins and minerals. Don't be discouraged if you need to eat a little bit during your 2 day fast, I did and I still lost the weight I desired (I ate about 1/2 of what my 9 yr old daughter ate at supper).
It was really difficult to do and you would be successful with this to start only if you have prepared a proper calorie reduced diet immediately after your 1st couple of days. i.e. boiled egg, no carbs, and reduced fats, salts and processed sugars etc. I was then mentally prepared to embark on this journey of loosing weight because I saw my first 5 pounds gone right away and was convinced I could do it. Just so you know, I put on about 2 pounds as soon as I started to eat again and this will be normal for you. I then started to keep track of what I ate keeping in mind the number of calories I had consumed and trying to keep my calorie intake to about 2000. Dailey. This mixed with a little bit of exercise (walking and squats) and weights (dumbbells for curls/lifts) helped to take off about 300 to 500 calories Dailey (don't forget your best music with that to reduce getting bored). I was able to hang in there and found that I was loosing the weight at a comfortable 3 pounds a week. Its been 5 weeks now and just finished another 2 day multivitamin drink and lost an additional 3 to 4 pounds. I have 4 weeks until we go to Disney. Wish me luck.
P.S. I know that in order to keep the weight off a drastic life change in eating habits and exercise has to happen to me. Believe it or not I was 178 pounds 6'0" and in great shape when I became a Police Officer now if only I can turn my life style around and put my best (healthy) years ahead of me instead remembering them from years left behind.

pkitty,

Good for you! Keep on losing that weight!

I have a pretty sedentary lifestyle. Even though we have three kids, varying ages, we don't do much exercise.

We bought a treadmill and I try to walk on it everyday.

I am at 1 mile..roughly 25 min.
I want to get more miles, less time.

I need to lose about 30 lbs.

It is a long road, and if I saw a 5 lb. weight loss I would be happy.

Good luck to you!

Well I am late - but here! I missed this thread last week. :)

Sign me up! I have been following the Atkins way of eating since July of last year. I have lost 30 lbs to date, and have at least 15 more to reach goal weight (might revise my goal downwards when I get there another 5 lbs).

I purposefully "maintained" through the holidays but stayed on plan. I have been trying to jump start the weight loss since the first of the year .. but it has been slow going. A challenge is just what I need to get me more focussed on LOSING weight and out of the maintenance mode. I have been losing... just VERY slowly. My own fault though... just have been eating as much as I really want and not exercising. The past several days I have gone to smaller but more frequent meals and I have been doing better - so I think I will stick with that for a while and keep checking in here for the encouragement.

Wishing all of us success!

Doing Atkins. Had started Jan 2, lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks, stopped losing, but also I wasn't real strict about it, so I wasn't REALLY sure where my carb intake stood. (Then I had a really bad weekend last week...ugh!) Back on track now, and the www.FitDay.com website that DixieDreamer recommended is great for keeping track of carbs! I'm feeling very motivated now. :) Thank you DixieDreamer.

Bought a treadmill back in Nov, which has never worked right, so someone from Sears is coming Tuesday...can't wait. Meanwhile, I've used the treadmill at the fitness center at the indoor soccer complex while the kids have practice...4 miles in an hour.

The first six pounds came off the Atkins way! Yeah!

I crossed the border into Bellingham, WA to stock up on some Atkins products. My Cranberry-Orange Muffins are in the oven -- I am so excited to have a bread-y treat and still lose the weight!

I'm doing the new-clippie dance. :)

I just checked out the www.FitDay.com site ... I like it a lot! I have been trying to think of a way to organize things and this does everything! I especially like how it calculates the food calories ... that's really handy! :p

Count us in!
DH & I have both started WW and are exercizing daily.
He's lost 6 lbs and I'm down 6 as well:D

The point system is great- we like the flexibility it gives us to still splurge (with banked points) and he's learning how to make healthy choices.
Kudos to my DD who has lost 92!!lbs since last April on WW - way to go Jenn:)

I walk at least 2 miles a day and DH runs and referee's in his spare time (he says it's lots harder to keep up with those teenage kids on the court these days:) LOL!)

Two weeks on WW now, and down 8 lbs.! Still a long way to go, but it feels like there are a lot of friends here to do it with.

The one problem I have now is a scheduling conflict. I've been going to a meeting that I love, with an energetic and very organized leader, good friends and only five minutes from the house. But now I've had to reschedule something else (music lessons for DS9 and myself), and the only time I could fit that was the same time as my WW meetings!!

There are some other meetings around I can try to make it to, but I really love this group and this leader. And I know from experience that I really need the meeting to make WW work for me. I don't want to drop the music or this WW group, so I guess I'll try to (a) find another WW meeting to attend while (b) I work to try to find another time to schedule the music lessons.

I think just spelling it out made it clear to me that I need to find a way to make this WW group fit in the schedule for me. Thanks for listening! You're the best!

I am up for this. DD (she is 14) and I started a week and a half ago doing WW on our own. (Not going to meetings) Had the info from a previous start of a diet, that failed. BUT we are doing it together this time. We started 1/31 and she lost 5 pounds in one week and I lost 4!! We weigh ourselves on Thursdays. We got a summer catalog with bathing suits in it. Can't wait to pick one out for our next trip "Home". Thanks for this site and looking forward to my first 'clippie'.

Count me in for your challenge!

Just came across a link to this thread from a signature on our cruise list thread. It's just what I need!

I started the Weight Watchers online program last week... again. Lost two pounds, so I'm happy!

I've been journaling and drinking lots of water. Now, I need to stop looking at my treadmill and WATP tapes and actually get moving!

I'd love to drop about 35 more pounds before the cruise in October.

I, too, stumbled upon this link in a post somewhere. I am up for the challenge! DH and I will be going back with WW, where we dropped 24 and 22 lbs before our cruise! It wasn't all that hard to stay "close" to the program while onboard ship....no, really :p !
Good luck to all involved!

Count me in, too! I joined Weight Watchers in November of 2002 and have lost almost 15 pounds. I decided that this would go much faster if I got busy and started exercising. So since we have returned from our trip to WDW in January, I have started walking a mile and a half a day.

I have decided that this is not a diet for me as much as it is a life change. I was so tired of being tired all the time and tired of going to buy clothes and not fitting into them. I feel so much better since I have shed the extra pounds that I am determined to loose the other 55.

What fun it will be to go to WDW and not have my knees hurting and be so exhausted!

It will be great having the support of all you out there who are going through this with me!

GOOD WORK TO ALL WHO DID NOT GAIN ANY MORE WEIGHT THIS WEEK AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO FELL OFF THE WAGON !!!
SO WOULD YOU ALL PLEASE WISH ME LUCK.

I read these reply's every day and I must say that for every new person wanting to be counted in and every added thread from those all ready trying I see new hope and a new sense of " I CAN DO IT! " I have to admit I think I fell off the wagon last week due to a big bag of potato chips "jalapeno flavoured" that made its way into the house, and no I didn't bring it here, my wife did; they're my daughters favourite and unfortunately mine too. I was in the kitchen one day looking for something to take the edge off. I suddenly found myself in the cupboard that should be marked " ALERT HAZARDOUS MATERIAL!" "DADDY'S KEEP OUT!" "THIS MEANS YOU!" This is my daughters junk food bin and every so often I have to take a peek and see what's up in there. anyways the next thing I know is I'm watching T.V. eating my favourite chips; not all of them thank god for that, but as the week has been going on the bag is slowly being emptied of its hazadardous material.
So I just weighed in and found I gained a pound or so from the last time about 4 days ago. I hope its one of those pounds that disappear at the end of the day if you know what I mean. Lets hope. I know that while dieting we should remember to take the good with the bad. The bad part is this week I gained but since I started my diet I have lost about 18 pounds. My family and I are heading to DW in 17 days. I am as of today 226.5 pounds from 245 pounds starting Jan 04th 2003. When I started this I was hoping to be 215 pounds heading for Disney. I would be just as happy being 220. Do you think I can do it and loose 7 pounds in that time? Any more would be a bonus. Wish me luck.

PKITTY'S husband not to mistaken for the real PKITTY.

1983 - DW (off site)
1998 - DW All Star Music.
1999 - DW All Star Music.
2000 - DW All Star Sport. ( my favourite )
2001 - Trip to Caribbean 5 *****. (nice but not as nice as DW)
2002 - No trip. ( bought a pool instead.)
2003 - 17 more days.

PKitty's husband, Don't beat yourself with a soggy chip! ;) You've done well to lose some, and will likely continue in the right direction, whether you make the 220 goal or not. When we're at Disney, we don't do the mega sit-down meals, and we only eat twice a day, so we don't usually gain weight. Remember, having lost the first 10 pounds, you are already healthier than you were! Have a good time at the World!

PKITTY's Husband-

Sometimes it helps to look at your weight loss picture with a longer lens. You've lost 18 pounds over about 6 weeks- yeah!

If you weigh yourself daily, or even weekly, you'll see lots of ups and downs. It's really hard to get a sense of how well you're doing. It will seem like you've had weeks where you've been really "good", but the scale won't budge. Or it may even show a slight gain.:(

Then you'll have weeks when the chips or the desserts were calling your name and you gave into the temptation and felt really guilty about that, sure that you've completely blown the diet and are doomed to eternal obesity and shame. You might be shocked and register a weight loss those weeks!

Be cautious about the short term (daily/weekly) goals, as they can be misleading. 18 pounds since the beginning of the year is great- just think of where you'll be by the beginning of summer at this rate!

Woo-hoo!! Pkitty might not be able to control herself with hottie hubby by then!

(I hope you enjoyed the chips! I think it's okay to splurge a little bit now and then.)

I'm in, too.

I'm really needing some support! My gym closed, and I don't want to go to one of those "Pretty People" gyms, or mall walk. Starvation would be the easiest thing, but I am WEAK. Not only do I not have any will power to not eat, I'm also physically weak and need to build up some strength. So, I need to get moving. Trying the SIZE diet. Portion SIZE and exer- SIZE. Trying for an hour/day exercise and portions equal to the palm of my hand. I know I can do it! (With a little help from my friends! :) )

I like to cook and since DH has Type 2 Diabetes, it won't be too hard to stick to a good eating plan. MY touble is living here in Fort Wayne. (I'm from MI, and like you, hope to return to my roots :) ) There is nothing to do here, and eating healthy is a particular challenge! (You may feel the same about Michigan, depending on where in MI you live.) I have learned to cook healthy, and I now know I NEED to exercise. That is what works for me. Now I need to commit! Looking forward to lots of suppport on both ends! Thanks for the encouragement!

Woohoo!

Glad I stumbled on this thread--I'd love to join in!

I just started going to a church-based weight program that began locally here in Houston and is now international--
First Place

It's got bible study in it and encourages a healthy diet with exercise and encouragement.

I started it three weeks ago at 165 lbs, but my car broke down the next day and couldn't fix it in a week. Meaning NO trips to the gym and I promptly gained four pounds!!!! YIKES!

Two weeks later and a running car (hurray!) I'm back to the 165 lbs I started at and am pretty excited about seeing some serious loss eventually.

I am ready to take the challenge. I don't know exactly WHAT I am going to do to lose the weight right now except for cutting back some. As soon as Lent starts, I will be doing something a bit more formalized - but as of today, I am ready to start cutting back. Got to lose some weight, I am dealing with high BP (under control with meds) and high cholestorol (not on meds...YET and I hope NOT to be.) I have a dr's appt in 3 1/2 weeks. I hope that I can be down about 5 pounds by then.

OK - got to run, but I will be back to visit later. :)

I have lost 10 pounds already on my own, but I want an extra push so that I can go to Disney healthy, happier (but then again, who won't be happy to be at Disney!) and slimmer. Okay, I am stepping up to the plate. I am going to accept the challange.

The plan I am going to use is well, not really a plan. I just plan to eat sensibly, limit the junk, excercise and increase my water/fluid intake.

My first goal is 10 lbs by Easter (for our Disneyland trip).

I am half afraid to say it but that is only 1/10th of what I need to loose.

Is it too late to take the challenge if I've I've already lost 21 pounds? I have a goal of 40, which would take me to my college weight. The diet? I call it the Disney diet. My wife said if I lost 40 pounds, I could go to Disney in June. Seems to be working.

How? Despite gaining much weight over the years, I've always managed to keep working out, mostly jogging on a tread. but age (just turned 40) and weight (went over the 40#+ overweight mark), was killing my knees. The diet is the Atkins Diet. A controversial beast, for sure. But if anyone wants opinions from a lifelong failure at low fat dieting, I'm getting sold on this one.

Do do I get my 20# icon? If not, I'll just lose another 20! And why? Lighter load=more energy=more park time in June!

Good luck everyone!

I started dieting the second week of Jan. The plan was to cut calories intake period. My daily intake prior to the diet was 2,500 to 3,000. Now, I'm on 1,000 or less. For lunch, I will have either Lean Cusine or Healthy Choice (around 300 calories), then for dinner, I eat a large chinese chicken salad with half of the dressing provided.

The first three weeks yield awesome results. I have 15 pounds. However, the following three weeks yield a big fat 0 (at least I did not regain any). I have 7 more pounds before I can fit in my tux (need it for our March 29th Magic).

Exercise was an option I have choose to skip for the time being. I know I wouldn't keep up.

Wish me luck!!!

Im not doing any particular diet just cutting calories and watching what Im eating.

I bought a couple of exercise tapes and look forward to doing one of them on a daily basis. Im going to start with the Fat Burner Walk because as out of shape as I am...and uncoordinated....I figured I could do the walking part with no problems.

Hi everyone, just followed this link from the Community Board and I am in!

I started dieting right before Christmas and have lost a total of around 30 pounds since then:) My goal is to look like I do in that picture at the bottom when I was 21. I am not doing a particular diet, just counting calories and drinking water. I try to drink at least 120 ounces of water per day and try to keep under 1000 calories if possible!

I would love a clipart, they are so cute and a constant reminder of what is important!! I look forward to getting to know everyone in this challenge.

As of now I would like to loose about 100 pounds in the long run but another 20 is my first goal!

I would like to join too!

Right now I am not folowing a specific diet. I am watching what I eat.....trying to maintain the proper amount of complex carbs, protein and fat to keep myself healthy, but still be able to drop some weight.

I have been on a fitness routine for 7 weeks now. I do weights 3 days a week, and cardio usually 5-6 days a week. I can feel myself getting fitter, but not losing the wieght yet.

I think I am in the right place thought! Everyone seems so helpful and motivated!

Hey there folks!! Count me in!!!!

I joined LA Weight Loss back in Sept and have gone from 192 to 146 as of Monday (I weigh in M, W, F). My goal is 135 and these are the hardest to lose so I'm told. I haven't changed my level of activity, just what and how much I am eating. The last few weeks have been really hard for some reason. I've been floating around 150 and couldn't get past. My big motivation for losing weight was to prepare for donating a kidney to my brother. That took place in December, so now I'm hoping that this challenge and your support will be exactly what I need to get keep me going.

Congrats to EVERYONE here because it regardless of what we lose it means we are trying to improve ourselves.

Hi Everyone!
I just found this link & I figure 'better late than never'.
Sign me up!
I'm gonna walk, outside & on the treadmill, and watch what I eat. I'm going to try to change my eating habits for life not just for weight loss. I want to keep it off this time!
I am going to try to post the clipart........but I'm pretty computer challenged:p

Back for an update...

Well, I finally earned my 10 pound clippie. Still doing the Atkins.

I was a bit discouraged... I was very stalled for a week. I think I was a bit too excited about trying all those low-carb alternatives (muffins, pancakes, chocolate bars) and added too much for what my system can handle.

I've also experimented (on the occasional meal) with some "Carb-blocker" supplements. With them, I found I was able to handle some chow-mein and still stay in ketosis, but roast potatoes were too much for me. The carb blockers are supposed to block up to 500 calories of carbs (but I guess that was too hard for me to figure out -- or I just overdid it).

Anyhow, I'm back on track and the pounds are coming off again. Also, drinking LOTS of water is making all the difference -- I do find it hard to force myself to drink so much... I'm sure I'm not the only one.

This message board REALLY helps me. Keep the updates coming everyone!

Cheers.

Good for you, earning a 10 pound clippie! I've been on a plateau for 3 weeks on the Atkins plan. I weigh in on Thursday and I hope that I finally break away and lose something besides inches.

Welcome back :)

I've been lurking on this board for quite a while. I have over 100 pounds to lose and it can be very discouraging. This time around, in addition to watching what I eat, I have started doing The Firm videos and I love them! This is only my first week but I feel so energized (and sore). I have yet to buy a scale to confirm what my current weight is but I have a pretty good idea. I'll be reporting back and looking for all your wonderful support! Thanks so much for this board!

Welcome, Zeraspride. I'm glad you decided to join us. I had a hundred pounds to lose too. Now I have 82 pounds to lose. You can do this, I know you can!

Isn't it great to take control of your life? Sounds like the workout you are doing is working for you.

I have been doing WW since September and I am down 23.8 lbs as of last night. My WDW trip was my motivation. I don't want to look at pictures of myself at my starting weight, or even at my current weight. I am about 1/2 way to my goal.

I am very bad about getting to the gym, there just never seems to be enough time. I am going to try to move from the treadmill to the elliptical trainer this weekend, though.

This looks like a great supportive place to be.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Ah okay...so this is the thread to join in! I just saw this today...but I should have been here all along it seems!

I've been doing Atkins since 2/1.....so far I'm down 14 lbs. I started out with 76 to lose. I'm now in OWL (30 carbs) and I weigh in again on Saturday. I was ordered onto low carbs by my doc last summer, but fell off the wagon sometime in the fall. I decided to try Atkins since I think I needed to take drastic measures to cure my sugar addiction....haven't had a bite of sugar since 1/31. I will have a piece of birthday cake for my dd's 3rd birthday on Monday....but that's my limit...a sugary treat once every month or so if I can handle it without getting cravings again. If I can't handle it...well, I've found some good sugarless treats that I can have occasionally instead.

Good to have found you all!

Good luck, Lesley. I hope eating that cake doesn't throw you out of ketosis. If it does, just start induction again.

I just saw this thread and thought, 'what a great idea to join!' :D

I've done some soul searching, and decided that getting fit is what I need to do, not just watching what I eat, but definitely adding more exercise to my life. I work a sit-down job, so its very easy to become lethargic.

I want to sign up for this thread, & I look forward to the help of those already signed up to assist me with this. :)

On that note, how do I get the member logo? ;)

My guess is that the cake will be about 50 carbs...so if I'm careful, I should remain in ketosis. I was losing last summer on a diet of about 70 carbs a day....so I'm not too worried. Like you said, I can always pop back onto induction for awhile. My biggest worry is getting my sugar cravings back...those of you who have a sugar addiction know what I'm talking about. The more you eat, the more you crave. I haven't had a true sugar craving since my first week of induction and I'm happy to find that chocolate with maltitol does not induce those cravings at all. I can eat it and not really want more and more. I'm prepared and I know how to fight back now!

Thanks for the support!

Lesley: Way to go! Keep up the good work.

My tips for people trying Atkins -

Try the Atkins Indulgence bars when you crave chocolate -- they taste so fantastic you won't miss the real (sugary) thing. Sugar really is the enemy on this way of eating -- if you remember it's what allows you to store fat then it might not be so hard to resist. Or at least that's what works for me when I'm feeling tempted.

The other thing that keeps me away, is I lost over 55 pounds on the Atkins, but regained much of it when I returned to my old way of eating. And I didn't eat large quantities of food or live on junk-food either, but I learned that pasta, bread, potatoes and sugar do not make me feel or look my best so I can't go back there. Not even a little, because the next time it's just a little more, every week instead of every month... It's so easy to slip into bad habits again! Also, there are some terrific low-carb alternatives out there that can help you get through some cravings. I found that the Cranberry-Orange muffin (mix) from Atkins really helped when I started getting sick of eggs. I missed my morning coffee & muffin, so just that little treat really helped.

For more recipe inspiration, I try the Suzanne Somers books (very close to Atkins plan for many of the dishes). And her dessert book is fabulous. I've made them with Somersweet, but you can use Splenda too. My husband doesn't miss the 'other' desserts when he can have a chocolate cake or creme brulee.
So I'm back on the Atkins. And this is it. No more cheating, because I'd only be cheating myself. This board helps so much -- thanks everyone for your support.

Okay, my fingers hurt. No more typing for me tonight.

:)

Cheers, all.

Well, I may as well make it public... "I'm on a diet!" I lost a lot with the Weigh Down Workshop, but another pregnancy did me in. So, this time it's a life change. Wait 'til I'm hungry, stay away from carbs. I must ask Lesley, does not having ANY sugar (Hershey chocolate squares are my downfall.) really get rid of the cravings?!? Come 3pm I can eat a whole bar if I'm not carefull! Have been walking our new dog daily, going to the gymn and take Karate. Have 30 pounds to lose. I look forward to having you all to look to for support!;)

I have been reading everyone's diet's and I am impressed. I tried Atkins through a doctor two years ago and it made me ill. I lost 25 pounds on it then I started having heart palpitations and my hair was coming out like crazy. I so loved that diet too, my body just didn't respond as well. Keep up the good work on it. I'm jealous that I can't do it to.

However, I am down 5 pounds, which I think is really great.

Look at all of our new DIS WISH Challengers! This is so great :teeth:

<b>epicureangirl</b> it sounds like you've had some really good success eating a controlled carbohydrates plan. I hope I can lose 55 pounds, at least.

<b>Tiggerkeeper</b> your son is going to be so proud of the newer healthier you and you will be proud of yourself, too!

<b>house_of_princesses</b> abstinence from any sugar will take away your cravings after about 3 or 4 days. You also have very little appetite on the Atkins nutritional plan. It's great!

<b>sm4987</b> the Atkins plan isn't for everyone. Too bad you can't tolerate it, but there are other healthy plans out there, sounds like you found one that is working for you.

<b>yasuern</b> good luck at WW. It's a great program!

<b>Nathan's Grandma</b> I wish I was a grandma too but no such luck yet. Are you following any formal eating plan or just making healthier choices? Good job with that airwalker, you are doing really well with that.

<b>mic&min</b> Welcome to the DIS and WISH. I'm really glad you found us and joined in with us. I follow the Atkins plan and it works very well for both my husband and I. Good luck with this.

<b>quackattack</b> How neat to find another husband/wife team on WISH. My husband doesn't post on the DIS though. Sounds like you have a great attitude towards this and a pretty good sense of humor, too. That helps when you start trying to lose weight :teeth:

I'm so glad to see so many new people taking the WISH Challenge. We have a terrific support group here and that is so helpful to me.

Anyone who hasn't added the DIS WISH clipart yet, just pm Kelsie or go to the technical support board and pm one of the moderators there, they can help you put the clipart in your signature.

There is also a great instructional post <b>HERE</b> (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=326403) by Wovenwonder that will tell you how to add this to your signature yourself.

Good luck to everyone. I'm just so glad you decided to join us.

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking and decided what the heck-I'm in if you'll have me! I tried the Atkins diet and did well losing but felt really sick the first couple weeks, and slowly slid back into the old habits. I also had joined a club, and found I really enjoyed the aerobic machines like the treadmill and eliptical machine, but my schedule isn't good for a regular routine and so I didn't go as much as I would like (I am on call all day, everyday, with my own business.) So here I am looking for suggestions :) I have an old exercise machine that I will break out here at home, and I wondered if I would do better on a WW type program where I had another person monitoring my weight. So I will continue to read your tips and advice, and hopefully be on my way to a healthier me.

I'm joining too!

I found the wish board a week or so ago - now I'm ready to get serious. I started on 3/2
I'm doing the only thing I've had success with in the past - I log what I eat and stop at 1,150 calories max. for the day.
Hmmm how many calories in a slice of boston creme pie for breakfast? (kidding...I'm trying to make healthy choices as well)

Have not decided on an exercise program yet (running after 4 kids is not doing it for me)

Thanks for all the good ideas/inspiration!

<b>tmsclsdisneybound</b> sounds like you have already made a really good start. Visit us often while you are working on those remaining 30 pounds.

<b>jpmom97</b> Yay! Congratulations on losing that pound. You can ad the WISH clipart again. If you have problems just ask on the technical board and they can help you. I hope to see you in transatlantic chat again this Sunday.

One slice of custard-type pie= 8 Weight Watchers points, so that's in the neighborhood of 400 calories. Be careful what you ask, we have our handy-dandy calorie counter slide rules handy at all times!!:p

Oooh Boy! My Turn! I wanna play! Cleveland, OH area checkin' in.

I am signing on for the challenge. I have always been an active person in my youth and most of my adulthood-all the way to when I became Mom’s Taxi...Driving, waiting and driving and waiting and driving. I stopped my activity so my children could be active.

I began to do things that were healthier for me again last year prior to that Mom’s Taxi thing I always had done the good things, lucky me. I never had to focus on this in my entire life until recently. I have heard the comparison made—if the oxygen mask drops down in an airplane you must put on yours first or you will be no help to others. Same thoughts should go for our personal wellness. I began to apply this thought to my goals of improving my health.

Last year I lost 30 pounds and gained back half of what I lost in last 6 months. I want to lose 30 pounds from where I am now as a long-term goal no matter how long-term. This may seem small to many yet I find it a great challenge!

My plans are to use short-term goals.
>>Take body measurements
>>Do some sort of exercise at least every other day…extra is bonus
>>If I fall get back on
>>Eat smaller portions
>>Eat Healthy—which includes no snacking at night. I can have something small in the afternoon then right????
>>Exercise and more exercise
I found motivators last year when I tried walking/slow jogging with others and will be found trying to improve my times from last year with participation in the 5k that’s 3.1 miles.

I will be found here:
>>May 1-August 31 Every Saturday Morning 10a.m. at Edgewater Park Pier Cleveland, OH Enjoy a 3 mile fun Run/Walk see www.billybass.net Everyone is welcome come once, come often. I will be there. Out of towners welcome!
>>Race for the Cure October 11th supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
>>Towpath Marathon October 12th see http://www.towpathmarathon.org/ proceeds from the event benefit Ohio Canal Corridor
>>Working the Towpath either walking or jogging…this is my most happy place.

I am a proud newcomer to race/walking events and let me tell everyone that I was absolutely thrilled to participate! I recommend this type of activity to everyone at all levels of ability. This was a great way for me to focus my summer program with a goal in sight. My goal last year was to participate and I did!

I can't believe this, I have managed to lose another 5 lbs ever since the calories reduction plan and kept it off. Best of all, my old suits that I couldn't fit prior to the weight loss program, needs to be taken in about a inch to two inch. Imagine that I still have another 10 lbs to go for the ideal weight. My tailor is going to love me for all the extra business.

Total weight loss: 20lbs, 5 lbs after joining WISH group!

Hey Kelsey! I want to add the 15 clippie...I've lost 19.4 so far. I can't get it to work right. Do you have any suggestions?

I decided in mid January that it was time to lose some weight and get some exercise. Then I decided to reward myself in a year with a Disney Cruise. Of course it makes sense to book in advance so I will be making my reservations soon..... Now I just have to earn my reward!!! :p

At work we started a pedometer walking program where you are supposed to walk at least 6000 steps per day. My goal has been at least 10,000 steps per day so I have been spending some time on the treadmill everyday and adding steps wherever I can. I have also been using the Weight Watchers point program to control my eating. (No meetings though...just the stuff I got from the last time I joined). So far I am doing well. I am motivated to look better on my 2004 cruise than I did on our 2001!

jlawall--go to the technical support board, they can help you over there if you are having problems with putting the clipart in your signature.

mamagoggle, I'm so glad you decided to join us. We have a terrific support group here on WISH.

I enjoyed a 7 day Western cruise in September, 2002, it was wonderful. Hmmm, I wonder if I could convince my husband to let me cruise again if I get thin...

Pleeasseee tell me it's not too late!! I've been so bad - I posted here in January and lost all motivation. I was just able to catch up with the bandwagon and jump back on. Me and a co-worker have been Somersizing - this is my first week and it's sooo hard but I'm trying to get through it. I really need the support of others - DH gives in too easily!

I would love to lose 50 lbs by December 6th - our next WDW trip!!

Thanks muchly!

"I've been putting this off far too long!"

I want to join, too! What do I do? I need to lose about 50# ARGH! I got about 25 off (in 9 weeks) before my 11/12 cruise but had given up what w/ Christmas and everything and now it's mostly crept back on. Got another cruise in 11/03. I'll be using the Body Makeover diet (similar to the Zone) - low salt no sugar lots of protein, small amounts of complex carbs. This worked before cause it eliminated my cravings (I start binging if I get alot of salt and sweet - get thee behind me, Kettle Corn!)

Seeing my college roomate for the first time in almost 20 years in 2 1/2 weeks - guess I can't do much by then - sigh! Maybe I can get back down 20 or so by DS's college graduation in May - I need intermediate steps cause November is too far away!

WDW (BWV) - 4/13-16/03
DS graduates from Cornell - 5/25/03
Magic Eastern - 11/15/03
Return of the King - 12/17/03

50th BDay - 12/31/03

Welcome to our WISH family everyone.

<b>CrzyforPiglet</b> I'm so glad you caught up with the band wagon. 50 pounds by December sounds like a reasonable goal to me :)

<b>Betsyt82</b> WISH =<b>W</b>e're <b>I</b>nspired to <b>S</b>tay <b>H</b>ealthy. In my case WISH actually stands for wish, as in I wish I wasn't so fat ;) We have a great support group going here, glad you could join us. Grab the clipart and visit often.

<b>Kabuli1</b> if you eat a controlled carbohydrate diet there's a good chance that you could lose quite a bit of weight in 2 1/2 weeks. I lost 12 pounds my first two weeks on Atkins and 18 pounds in 3 weeks. I'm really glad you decided to join our support group. Grab the DIS WISH Challenge clipart and visit often.

Wovenwonder has some great instructions for adding the clipart to your signature right <b>HERE</b> (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=326403)

Welcome to all of our new WISH members, I hope you all can visit often and join in with the fun we have here.

It must be a sign that I found this Forum on the very morning I've got a doctor's appt to talk about doing a weight loss program. So count me in (if it's not too late). My weight goal is to lose about 40 pounds. My overall goal is just to feel better.

For exercise, I plan on daily walks, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, stretching, and using weights for upperbody strenght. I had been going to a gym for quite awhile but I kept getting various injuries (plus other people's sweat grosses me out!)

I'm looking forward to using this forum as a support system and seeing how others are progressing too because that's a great motivator.

Hope to be in good shape for my December visit to WDW!!!

Is it too late to join? We just signed up for a 7 day Western Cruise on 11/8/03 (belated for my 40th birthday in August) and I am determined to lose! Have rejoined WW and need some more motivation. This should be it. I do not want to be 40 and fat!

WW had worked for me in the past, losing over 65 pounds, then another baby and a lot of bad habits, I'm the heaviest I have ever been.

I am going to try and get back on the treadmill! Having foot problems now, but I have to do something!

I love the DIS Boards and am a confirmed WDWaholic. My husband humors me, but doesn't really understand me  .

Atkins scares me, so I'll stick with WW for now.

Beverly

How do I add clipart? New to all of this.

More newbies! I love seeing new faces here :) Welcome to the DIS and to WISH!

<b>Rebd40</b> It's never too late to take the WISH challenge. I'm so glad you decided to join us. It sounds like you've got your exercise all planned out, that's great. What kind of eating plan will you follow? Weight Watchers? Atkins? Or do you just plan to make better food choices?

<b>disneyeveryyear</b>, we have lots of WW members here. I'm addicted to Disney and the DIS and married to a man who is severely Disney impaired  He humors me too :teeth:

There are some great instructions on how to add clipart to your signature <b>HERE</b> (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=326403). Wovenwonder did a great job writing this up for us.

I'm so glad you two decided to join our support group. I hope to see you here often.
