Days 3 and 4 ….
Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans! On Day 3 (Epcot Day) I awoke to the 6:30 alarm in a sweat and thought that the air had been turned off by the boys. I was also really, really sleepy and went to dozing off and on until almost 10:30am. It was then that I realized that a vacationers worst fears had come true for me, I was sick. I had a fever and sore throat and felt a little delirious. Could it be sun poisoning? I don’t really get along well with the sun, and had taken care to later on the SPF 30. But, in this environment (the heat, the kids everywhere, everyone close together and people from all over the world) it would be anything. I got dressed and we headed out to Epcot. When we arrived at Epcot I was almost too sick to walk, but what can you do when you are the ONLY adult and with a 5 year old who just wants to go, go, go. So, I decided to take it VERY slowly and sit when I needed to sit. We rode Spaceship Earth, spent time in Innoventions, saw Honey I Shrunk, rode the Land (on fastpass), ate at the counter spot in the Land building, saw Cranium Command, rode Body Wars and stood in line for test track. While in line for test rack I decided that she should just leave since it was 6pm and we had a 7pm PS at Ohana (never made it to World Showcase). I made it through dinner at Ohana (which was as good as I remember and my 5 year old LOVED LOVED LOVED the hula hoop contest, learning to hula and the coconut rolling game). We did ask for salk and pepper and were disappointed when our waitress BROUGHT the salt and pepper (anyone remember what used to happen when you asked for salt and pepper at Ohana?) I knew I was sick when, at the conclusion of dinner I realized that I had not touched my Mai Thai!! I am usually a 2-3 Mai Thai drinker……so now I am thinking about the people who avoided WDW this year because of the health warnings and wondering if I have been too relaxed about it all…(yes, the Mai Thais - or lack thereof- have me panicking)We finished just in tie to catch the electric water pageant (9pm) from the beach and provide dinner for a few HUGE mosquitoes (I hope they caught my mystery illness) and returned to Cypress Point at 10. It was then the DD5 began her begging to take a swim before bed (I know, I know..swimming with a fever is Not a good idea, but DD5 is a master begger), so we swam til 11.
Woke at 8 on Day 4 (Tuesday) feeling a little better, yet slightly weak. I decided to head to a leisurely breakfast at Kona Café and then to MGM for the day. The idea was to get to MGM around noon and hang out there until after the 9am Fantasmic show. I made a PS for Kona and pulled up at the Poly to the guard. I told him that I had a "PS" for Kona and he asked me what a PS was. I said "you know what it is" (smiling…but feeling like I just wanted to get in and sit down). He said that the only PS he knows of goes at the end of a letter, and asked me of I was going to write him a letter. I realized that eh was joking, so I played along. Then he asked me for a photo ID (HUH???? I have enever been asked for a photo ID upon entering Poly before……by the way, he NEVER asked me my name and never looked at his clipboard, so I am not sure what he was doing with the ID. I gave him the first ID I came across, my AT&T employee badge. Okay, this is where he crossed the line…he said "oh, AT&T huh, I heard that your stock is dropping because you don't know if you can get he job done". Excuse me???? Do I need to hear about my stock dropping when I am down HERE spending wayyyyyy too much of my AT&T earned dollars on WDW? Do I need to have the stability of my company questioned while I am on vacation? Do you see me commenting on YOUR company's stability, which is making MORE negative headlines than AT&T lately? Nooooooo, so give me my badge and let me go eat my overpriced breakfast and forget that my career hangs in the balance. Thanks. Think that was bad? As I was waiting for my little beeper thingy to go off to advise that my table was ready, I realized that I am ONE 10 DAY HOPPER SHORT!!!!!!! I have lost a ticket!!!!!! Now I am feeling faint. We are called to our table and I call lost and found….no ticket…call the boys at the room to have them look around…no ticket……LUCKILY, Paramount made a copy of the tickets for me and I had the copies with me. After breakfast, which I didn't enjoy for obvious reasons (though the Konga toast DID seem like something I would have enjoyed sans the mystery illness, guard's insults and lost ticket panic). DD5 and I drove to MGM and visited guest relations where a very nice CM informed me that my ticket had been used last night at Magic Kingdom (not me) and I realized that I must have left it in the FastPass kiosk at The Land. I remember feeling really sick when we were there and I must have just walked away with the Fast Pass and forgotten to take the pass back out. He cancelled that pass and issued me another one. Whew!!!! Thank goodness I had the copy!!! I paid $335 for that pass and I just would have died if I had to buy another one…especially with knowing that I am not feeling 100% and am really operating at about 50% capacity.
We proceeded to MGM and rode/saw everything buy ToT and RnRC. DD5's favorite? The "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" playground and that blasted rope climbing thing in there!!! I made the mistake of going with her into the rope thingy and was sorry I did halfway up! LOL After too much climbing, crawling and sliding in there we went to the parade (good!) and just as I was aboutto say (Let's go! Forget Fantasmic, I was feeling BAD BAD BAD again) she begged to go back to the HISTK playground…and BACK to the rope thingy….and I went UP again!!!! Then, My Pal Mickey started shaking while we were climbing the ropes and I just said "shut up Mickey" (Gulp!! Are you allowed to tell Mickey to shut up in WDW??? I was sorry right away and apologized to him…but he shouldn't allow these rope things in his world…they are torture for parents!) I was freeing little children's feet from being caught in the ropes and helping crying toddlers make it down. WHERE are the parents? Why am I helping kids down off of this thing? "Why didn't YOUR mom climb up here?" (humph) Okay, so after another 30 minutes in this playground of torture I am feeling stabbing pains in my stomach and am praying that I don't faint while in this park since I know Disney probably has a policy on fainting and would whisk me off to some medical facility somewhere and wouldn't get back to my resort until I proved that I was stable…and all I wanted to do was get back to Cypress Point. So, we made our way slowly out of the park, back to the car and back to the hotel. I collapsed on the bed and heard "mommy, can we go to the pool now?"..ooops, I DID promise this morning (before the black cloud opened over my day) that we would swim before bed. I warmed mac N cheese and chicken nuggets for her dinner and then we went swimming…UGH!! Somewhere during the course of this evening my 16 y/o asked me of he could pierce his ear and I guess I must have said yes since I heard him say "Really??? YESSSSS!!!"
Tomorrow was supposed to be a Blizzard Beach Day, but I may stay at the resort and let DD5 swim while I rest by the pool and try to kick this "thing".
