06-27-2004, 07:23 PM
The DIS meet is scheduled for right after the boat drill in the promenade lounge (in case of rain) But it is only a 10 minute meet, after that it is off to the Sailaway party.
Maryanne...Did you cruise to Bermuda and if so which ship?
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 07:30 PM
When we cruised Bermuda we sailed with Holland American (78 and again in 82. If they sailed out of the NYCity area we'd sail with them again.
Then we sailed with the Home Lines (don't remember the ship name - but I can tell you it was the worst, worst cruise we EVER were on. - They are now out of business.
We've also sailed to or three times with Celebrity. We enjoyed them. I have to say they had the best food of all the ships and that includes Disney which we've sailed with once before.
Mjasp
06-27-2004, 07:37 PM
Did you sail on the Zenith or Horizon?
Next year the Voyager is also suppose to do a 5 day cruise to Bermuda. Will have to see.
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 07:43 PM
I have been both on the Zenith and Horizon. I think we liked the Horizon a little better but that could have been because my boys were bigger then and we just had a nicer trip. When we were on the Zenith we got caught in a hurrican.
Mjasp
06-27-2004, 07:50 PM
OK Now I need you to think back to the Celebrity ships and since you have sailed on DCL before (I have only sailed DCL) will I totally not like the Celebrity ships because they are small? Is it that noticable? I would like to try it becaue it is 7 nights vs RC Voyager at 5 nights and with RCCL we will have to tender because it is a big ship. I would like to be able to get on and off the ship without tendering.
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 07:58 PM
Personally small is not noticible at least not on the Celeberty. I think Holland American was much smaller. I seem to remember only about 700 people on those cruises.
As far as tendering, this is just my opinion, I've tendered and not tendered although I can't remembered which ship I did it with going to Bermuda. Given a choice, I would not take a ship that you had to take a tender in. It's just another hassel to me and I'm not one for getting off the ship much to begin with.
The last time I was on the Disney ship (August 2000 - it was the 3rd 7 day cuise ever) I'm sure we tendered at Cataway Cay as the dock was not yet completed.
I would take the 7 day cruise over the 5 anyday but again that's just me.
SeaSpray
06-27-2004, 08:50 PM
Joanna, another thing against the 5-night to Bermuda is that you'd dock in Bermuda for only 1 night, and be at sea the other 4 nights. For a fun cruise, it'd be alright, but if you wanted to go and actually see Bermuda, that wouldn't be enough time.
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 09:12 PM
And depending on the time of year if you have bad weather at sea those are a LONG 4 days.
I think that is why I'm looking forward to only two sea days on this Disney Trip. Less chance for a long period of really bad sailing weather.
Plus, when all of you are off doing those port things, we get the whole ship to ourselves. LOL
Mjasp
06-27-2004, 09:14 PM
OK scrap the 5 night Voyager, I want to see Bermuda and I want to dock. I prefer not to tender also.
WHO WANTS TO GO TO BERMUDA NEXT YEAR? LETS START A THREAD.
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 09:21 PM
Another point, pick cruise that leaves on Saturday, not Sunday the ports are much nicer.

What do you mean the ports are much nicer? I thought Bermuda was Hamilton and St. George
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 09:30 PM
I think the Sunday one stops in KingsWafes? I do know the Sunday has one port that is different then the Saturday one. At least it used too. I'm going to check their web site now.
Mary Anne
06-27-2004, 09:37 PM
OK only the Zenith now sails out of NY. The Horizon seem to sail out of Phila or Va. They both do go to the same ports, which are the better ones.
It used to be one sailed on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Saturday one had slightly nicer docking ports in Bermuda.

Thanks Mary Anne. I am going to check it out.

Hey Jason, thanks once again for creating and maintaining the Cruise web site. :)
May I make a suggestion? Do you think you could include the names of the DISers who are going on the Tulum ruins excursion? I see that you already have a section with the info. And just like the Radisson section, could you list those going to the ruins? Thanks! :)
P.S. I'm all ready to book excursions tomorrow. So far, here's what I'll be booking:
Grand Cayman: Nautilus semi-sub and snorkel
Cozumel: Tulum Ruins
Castaway Cay: Banana Boat

Missinshadow--
Generally, everyone must wait until they board to make reservations for any meal at Palo and Vista Spa appointments.
However, if you book in a category 1, 2, or 3 or if you book the Romantic Escape at Sea package you can pre-book your Palo and spa reservations.

Florida Resident Rates can be a really great deal but you do have to figure in onboard stateroom credits and such. For instance, we called DCL this evening to enquire about the rates that Melanie mentioned.
The DCL rep. said that they started the first week in September and we could get a Cat. 9 Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom for a pretty good rate but we would loose our $400 credit from rebooking onboard.

Dinner Sunday at 7:30pm :cloud9:
Brunch Thursday at 10:30am
We requested APL seating rotation with our REAS pkg. for our late dinner seating. Are requested rotations generally granted???
Has anyone purchased stateroom credits to be added to your shipboard accounts? Adam and I are considering doing this weekly until leaving for the ship. Any thoughts??

I'm getting a late start this morning. I am going to call DCL and book our excursions in a few minutes, but John and I slept late because we were in the emergency room at the hospital in the middle of the night. He began having odd symptoms after taking one of his medications at bedtime so our doctor told us to go to the ER. By the time we got home it was after 3am, so he stayed home from work today and we slept in.
Melanie: Congrats on booking your excursions!! :)

Just got off the phone with DCL! :sunny:
(By the way, since we booked through All Seasons, I had to speak to someone in "group sales" to book the excursions).
Here's what I have booked so far:
Grand Cayman: Nautilus Undersea Tour & Reef Snorkel
Cozumel: Tulum Ruins & Beach Tour
Castaway Cay: Banana Boat Ride @ 11am
(I didn't book the teen excursion on Cozumel for DSs yet because they're not sure if they want to do that one or not).
The CM told me that I'll be getting a confirmation in the mail, and that I should bring that paper with me on the cruise. He said the tickets for the excursions will be in our stateroom.
I asked about the wave runner excursion on Castaway Cay and he said that as of now, you still have to wait and book that one onboard the ship.

Booked excursions and received confirmation by fax already this morning!
We booked Tulum Ruins in Cozumel for Sandy and I only. DH wants to skip this one. Any other mom and daughter only's? I'll check ************ website when I get done here.
Grand Cayman I booked the Stingray Observatory and Island Tour for all 3 of us. I'm hoping to have time for DD and I hit 7 mile beach after that. Do you think we will have time?
But the best news of the day...my son sent me an e-mail from Iraq!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc !!!!
This is the first time I have heard directly from him since he left last Wed. I am so excited I can't even type straight. His communication will be sporadic and primitive because of his particular location. I feel like a huge weight just rolled off my shoulders. My e-mail at work hasn't functioned since last Thurs, so when my DH called me to tell me he was going to forward the message immediately (he's such a good man!) I was so upset that I wouldn't be able to retrieve it. I told him I would try to access my e-mail and lo and behold, BOOM, all my e-mail messages popped up that had been waiting for me. GOD is so good to me. He made it work just when I needed it most. My son sounded good and now I feel less anxious. Sorry to ramble on but I just needed to share this blessing with you. I was almost going to cancel the cruise because I was just feeling so uneasy about my son. I still miss him terribly but I feel so much better after hearing from him.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Happy Excursions!

Here is what DCL said about the excursion for Grand Cayman:
Stingray City Observatory and Island Tour (3 - 3.5 hours)
Sample paradise. Take in the island's sights, including the Governor's House, a stop at the famous Seven Mile Beach, and the Cayman Turtle Farm. Next, you'll journey on to "Hell," where jagged rock formations suggest diabolical origins. Then, head out to sea! Board a moored semi-submarine that will take you below the surface in air-conditioned comfort for a breathtaking view of undersea beauty. Finally, top it all off with a shopping trip to George Town.
Adult Price: $55 (ages 10 and above)
Child Price: $45 (ages 3-9)
Departure Time: 7:30 am
We did something similar to this on St Martin and enjoyed it. We don't snorkel and I'm not sure DD would actually get into the water with the stingrays, so this sounded good. Would like to go to 7 mile beach after if there is time.
Was Able to get 2:30 res...for Parasailing on CC..
Bobby - I was sooo tempted to book parasailing! Did it on St Thomas and absolutely loved it. The most peaceful 8 minutes of my entire life! Decided to wait until next year when DD is 8 so I can take her up, too. Have fun!
sandygirl... very happy to hear that you were able to hear from your son!! I am sure that made your day!!!
Melanie - Thanks so much! Nothing could have happened today that would have made me lose my smile :teeth: .
Sandy...So very happy to hear about your son. How long will he be in Iraq for?

Terry - So glad to hear John is feeling better. Hope he continues to improve quickly!:wizard:
Joanne - It has taken me some time to figure out some of the functions on this board. I went  trying to figure out how to use a quote in the first place. If you know how to do one quote you can do multiple quotes easily. Just repeat the process of copying the text into the quote box. Just make sure you space in between each quote and your message. If someone has an easier way to explain it, please chime in:chat: . I think your way of doing one quote per message probably is an easier read though. The semi-sub is a small semi-underwater craft where you sit below the water line and look out large viewing windows. It feels like you are completely submerged, but I don't think you actually are. We had a good time on it in St Martin.

Good to hear everyone is getting their excursions booked and able to get what they want. DH and I had considered parasailing on CC but DH is a bit "chicken" himself! I have gone parasailing a few times before (over St. Pete Beach was my favorite!) so it isn't to big a deal to me....just thought I would attempt to get him on there. I guess I am the thrill lover in this relationship :smooth: ! lol Oh well!
Reenie... we booked Palo for Sunday evening around sunset - Sunday is our anniversary so that is the reason for the Sunday dinner for us. Glad I reserved it when I did! Being that we live in FL we can always hit Key West again soon. I have been there before but DH hasn't. Mallory Square is very interesting and the sunsets are gorgeous!
We were looking into the shipboard credits so that way all of this MONEY isn't sitting in our savings account staring us in the face! Temptations are great with three kids and we can always find something to spend it on! We do not use credit cards - I have enought debt from student loans  - so we will be paying the cruise all on a budget as we do with every vacation! :)
Enjoy your day everyone!!!

Joanna, I didn't know you could create a quoted message from the other person's post LOL. I told you I have been playing around and trying to figure things out on my own:confused: .
This is how I do it: I highlite the text that I want to quote in the person's post. Then I go up to my message and click "QUOTE" (the box is under the smilie selections). Then I right click on the quote line that pops up and click "paste". The text that I highlited pastes into the quote line and appears in my mesage as a quote.
Does that make sense:confused: ?
That way I only quote the section that I want instead of the entire post if it is long and doesn't pertain to my response.

Hi everyone!
You all look a bit blurry to me right now because I am wearing contact lenses for the VERY FIRST TIME! :magnify: I decided to get contact lenses instead of a prescription snorkel mask. But now I should be able to see the fishies clearly while I'm snorkeling, and also wear contacts when I don't feel like wearing glasses.
Do any of you wear contacts? How do you like them? I have to wear them for 4 hours today, and then increase it by 2 hours each day until I'm able to wear them for 12 hours. So by the time we cruise I should be all used to them. :)

I have worn contacts for over 25 years. Did you get soft contacts? I wear gas permable. Most of the time, I love them. My eyes are very senstive though and when a speck of dust or something gets in there, ouch! I wear my glasses in the morning when I walk into the bathroom to put my contacts in and put my glasses back on right before I go to bed.
Just be careful, because it's hard to switch back and forth all the time. You really have to commit to wearing the contacts most of the time.
I have snorkeled twice in contacts. (I've only snorkeled twice in general :p ) and while it takes a huge leap of faith, I've had no problems. I wear my contacts in the pool but don't put my face underwater. I'm forever warning people not to dunk me! As long as you have a tight fitting mask, you'll be fine.

Congratulations, Terry! Contacts are so convenient. I have worn them for 28 years, the last 16 I have had extended wear: everyday all the time, pool, bed, shower, swimming, everything. I'm sure once you get used to them you will be happy. No more fogging up when you come in from the cold! No water spots from the rain (or crying). No bumping glasses when you kiss your husband. I loved them. This year I finally took the plunge and had laser surgery to correct my nearsightedness. One of the best things I ever did.
Jason, glad you got the Tulum ruins. Sandy and I will look forward to traveling with you and Travis.

Still couldn't get your way to work, when I click on quote, it says put message you want to quote here?
And there is nothing there, and I can't right click. So I did it the old fashioned way, highlighted clicked copy and paste.
Thanks anyway, this way will work

I have not posted in a long time - this thread sure has gotten long!
Terry, I've worn contacts for over 20 years. I currently have extended wear contacts I wear 24/7 for a week. On the weekend they get cleaned overnight and then popped back in. Once month they get replaced with new lenses. I do everything, including swimming, with them in. You do have to be careful when swimming and keep your eyes closed underwater and carefully wipe away water before you open them. You might want to get swim goggle if you are concerned about being in a pool with them in. I have snorkled several times with no problem. Good luck-I hope all goes well.
As for excursions, I did call Tuesday morning and booked the Atlantis Deep Explorer mini-sub and the dolphin discovery at Cozumel. When I called the CM was unable to initially book the sub and they told me the shore excursion manager would look into it and they would call me back. I called back later in the morning with the same results - the manager was working on it. DCL never did call me back but when I got home they had left a message confirming we got the time we wanted. I was not going to do the dolphin discovery but booked it since I was not sure we would get the sub. No I have to decide if I want to keep both as they are expensive. DS5 can't do the sub and I'm sure he would enjoy the dolphins.
I'm also going to book stingray city and parasailing at Key West outside of DCL but have not had time to call yet.
Has anyone done parasailing at Key West or the dolphin discovery? DW and DS11 have already parasailed at CC so I thought KW would be nice (plus it is half the cost!).

Are excursions refundable? I haven't booked yet because I can't decide on the Parasailing thing, being chicken and such. My other excursions I don't think are going to fill up that quick.

Travis and I are considering the Aquaboat and Snorkel Adventure for our Grand Cayman visit. Is anyone doing this or considering it?
Aquaboat & Snorkel Adventure (3 hours)
Get your motor running and head out to the high seas! On this exciting excursion, you'll learn how to operate a two-person inflatable motorboat, which you'll then pilot along Grand Cayman's scenic shores. First, you'll visit Sandy Cay, just off the Cayman coast. After exploring this uninhabited desert island, it's off to Smith's Cove. This picturesque bay and secluded beach is the perfect spot to swim, snorkel or simply sun on the beach. And the fun's not done: back on the boat, you'll stop at the Cali, a submerged shipwreck, before returning to the dock and heading to Rackams Bar for a complimentary fruit or rum punch. Must be 13 or older to drive and be accompanied by a parent or guardian older than 18 years of age.

Joanna, thanks for asking about Hawaii - we had a great time. The weather was perfect (low to mid 80's, low humidty, nice breeze), the resorts were beautiful, and the kids really enjoyed it.
My MIL and FIL were along to help with the kids as we had to spend a good chunk of time at a business convention. I was worried they would drive me crazy but it wasn't too bad. I tried to do a lot of preplanning for them and gave MIL all kinds of info and recommendations but they were hesitant to plan too much. All I could do is shake my head when MIL and FIL spent one afternoon they had fre without the kids driving 40 minutes each way down to Kona so MIL could get her film developed at Wal-Mart (one hour processing!) and have lunch at McDonald's! They must have gone to that Wal-Mart 3 times during the 10 days they were there. They flew back with the kids as we moved to Maui for the 2nd part of the convention. Their flight back didn't leave until 9pm and they didn't know what to do to kill time. So they took the kids to a movie and then the mall. I guess that got me the most upset because there was so much they could have done that last day - that's why we booked a late flight for them!
Overall, though, it was a great time. DW received an award during the convention and now we get to go to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl parade on New Years Eve. DW even gets to ride in a float! Best part is the kids are welcome this time - we don't have to hide them with MIL and FIL like in Hawaii.

We're not doing any tours of any of the Islands so I haven't had to rush to get anything booked. You'll find me laying out on deck when we're in port, sipping a cold drink with my pile of books to read.
Jason, I got tha matrix to open up from work. That's great, thanks so much for all that work.
Hope everyone that was felling poor is better now. Gotta stay healthy, we're almost to the finish line!

Way back in the early days of the DIS, 97? 98? they were talking about how to recognize each other in the parks. somehow, and I don't remember how, they decided on Lime Green Ribbons and if you saw one, you'd know it was a DISer.
I have to tell you, I go to Disney close to 3 times a year and have NEVER seen one lime green ribbon.

What else...
The Mexicalifragilisticexpialidocious Deck Party is on Cozumel night. The whole family will want to catch that. 10:00 - 11:30.
Final Jackpot Bingo is on Thursday, generally 3:30 unless the pot goes at the 11:15 game.
Monday - 70s Disco Night ???
Tuesday - 80s Time Warp
Thursday - 70s Dance Party ???
(This info was from the Navigators on Dave's site. Not sure why 70s is listed twice?)

Great idea about meeting Joanna! I have something we could add to it too... I was toying with the idea last week and thought I would do it on my own but if would be cool to get others to join in too. I was thinking, what if we all dressed for one of the theme nights?! :teeth: I was going to make a tie-dye shirt and get a peace necklace for 60's night. We could all make it our own theme night? :) OK, maybe it's just me... BTW, what kind of shoes did guys wear during that time? :hyper:
Whatever we decide I'll be sure to put it up on the site.
Gail--
English Pub Night is relatively new on the Magic. Joanna, it's not on the same evening as Beatles Night and it's a different format and in a different location. It's held in Diversions and, without giving too much away, it involves a VERY funny skit by the cruise staff, some pub-style sing-alongs (they hand out sheets with all the words), and just all-around fun. It doesn't really last too long but it is hilarious to say the least! (I can't give away anymore. I don't want to spoil anything.)
Not sure how it compares to the entertainment at the Rose & Crown. As much as I enjoy that Disney restaurant, and with as many times as I've dined there, I can't say that I've ever seen the entertainment. We have always sat out back on the patio area. We'll have to look into it the next time we visit. Maybe even this weekend.
I'm not a big beer drinker but from what I remember they do have some English beer. Guinness I think. Perhaps more. I'm more of a champagne and foo-foo drink person, myself! :teeth:
Tell Julian congrats on his first Canada Day!

A word of advise....GO PARASAILING!!!! It is just amazing up there! I'm terrified of heights and it didn't feel that high! I just couldn't believe it!
Thats from a Cruiser on the boards..
Who is going on CC??
It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"
Talk later

Hi Kathy and welcome aboard. If you want me to put you on Page one for quick reference, just let me know who will be sailing with you and if you are staying pre night, just let me know which hotel you are staying in.
Reenie... LOL with the speaking of DISers on a first name basis. When we are with our neighbors and we talk about our cruise, I always speak of you guys on a first name basis. Just today at a BBQ we were talking about Mega millions and they had 1 winner in MA. I said I wonder if it is Terry, and my neighbor said who is Terry and my DD's said don't ask. Hi Reenie! Thanks for the welcome & your absolutely right, it does feel like family here! :) Joanna, I would love to be included on the 1st page! It will be myself, DH, DD who is 10, DS who is 9 & my BIL. We will be traveling with my Best friend, her DH & her DS who is also 9. The first time her & I ever went away on our own was to WDW in 1986. Now we get to take our families away for our first DCL cruise! I'm trying not to wish the summer away, but I soooo can't wait for this cruise!:hyper: :hyper: It's gotten even better now that I know so many fellow Dis'ers are onboard! :goodvibes I hope to be able to get to meet you whenever the Dis meet is on board! By the way Bobby, I too am trying to drop some weight before the Cruise! I'll be 40 in September & want to look good for my "Suprise Party!" :cake: My girlfriend was 40 in April & we are celebrating our b'days on the Cruise! Seems to be alot of us celebrating b'days. on this Cruise, hope DCL knows what it's in for! :crazy2: See you all there! Kathy ;)

Its so nice to see so much more PATRIOTISM since 911. It's a shame it took that to have it happen.
Moms and Dads,, that have children fighting the WAR ON TERRORISM THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!.
Kathy, I am travling with my sister but she is older than your BIL. She is a Disney Fanatic, I think she had been there 25 +times, and not even a resident of FLORIDA,,, yet!!!!
BOBBY.... 25 lbs,, I like your logic of loosing and overall weight lost after the cruise.
I wonder if WEIGHT WATCHERS would agree to that..
Joanna , That is real funny about the BBQ. I know jsut what you mean.
HMM we havn't heard form TERRY in a few days either,,, Did she win and leave us all behind with her milllions?? Or is she just enjoying the JERSEY SHORES??:boat:

So glad you are enjoying OKWest. We spent 4th of July there 2 years ago!
I have spent this 4th of July Week-end with 165,000+ people at Shea Stadium. LOL
Does anyone know if they've replaced the O'Rays @ the Wide World of Sports in Disney. I'm trying to find out if there will be any minor league baseball when we are there in August. If anyone hasn't seen a baseball game from the Disney Field, do do it if you get a chance. It's really neat.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
Bobby, I am with you 100% on your weight loss logic! Hoping to drop some pounds before the cruise too but I just know whatever I lose I will gain back on board!!!
I was also wondering about the iced coffee but figured with its popularity that Disney should have it somewhere onboard.
Jason... glad to hear you were able to get a spot on the Aquaboats! Now you just have to watch out for us - Adam hasn't driven a boat in years! :)
Jim - Enjoy WDW - we will be there in a little over a week...can't wait to go!

Hi everyone :wave2:
I'm still here; I haven't won a million dollars. LOL I don't even play the lottery! LOL Besides, if I did suddenly come into a LOT of money, you don't think I'd leave my DIS friends out of it, do you??
:p
It's been a busy weekend here. On Saturday we painted our house. We bought this house 5 years ago, and it was a medium blue with navy blue shutters and white trim. Now it's a taupe/tan color with a buttery-cream colored trim, and I picked out a really nice, but subtle shade of dusty-plum. In Home Depot, it's a Behr brand color called "Wine Frost". I love it! We've already painted the front door this color, and we're going to order raised-panel shutters and paint them the same color.
Yesterday (Sunday) we went to a beach in Rhode Island called Little Compton. What a beautiful day to be at the ocean. It had me daydreaming about the cruise.... :sunny:
Today we woke up to heavy rain so we slept in late then took the boys out to brunch then painted the front door and visited with some neighbors.
All in all, a great weekend and a great start to the summer. :)
A week from today I'll be at the New Jersey shore. I'll be bringing my laptop with me and will be able to sign on to the message boards at least once or twice while I'm gone. I'll be there for 2 weeks. I'll try to get online and do the weekly countdowns
I can't wait for 60's night. This is the night that the "Beatles" perform, right?? John and I will definitely be looking for some nightlife on the cruise ::yes::

Hope you all had a happy 4th! We had 32 for a BBQ and are quite tired today! I booked the REAS pkg on Thurs. as a surprise for my husband (it's our 20th anniversary) and will call Debbie tomorrow to make our ressies. I also booked the Stingray tour through Native Way on Grand Cayman. I really want to do the dune buggy or jeep tour on Cozumel but it's been a long time since either me or DH drove a stick shift. Is it like riding a bike, you know, you never forget how? I'm going to visit over to ***************** right now and read up on the DIS meets and all.

Good Morning everyone!
Terry & Darlene..... I LOVE Cape May and Wildwood. Went there every summer for 17 years. My family always stayed at the Montreal Hotel in Cape May for some reason. Wildwood Crest is also my favorite! DH and I are planning to go to Wildwood Crest with the kids next summer. Any suggestions on best places to stay???? We are family of 5 if that makes a difference. We haven't been there in years. Can't wait to go back....something so different about Jersey Shore! :)
Hope everyone enjoys their day today! :)

Melanie - I don't know much about Wildwood Crest but Cape May is awesome. There are so many options for lodging: bed & breakfast, hotel, motel, inn, house rentals, etc. I love a place where I can park my car and walk the rest of the week. The only time I drive is to the lighthouse or Cape May County Zoo or Cold Springs Village, and now you can take the train to the zoo or village. I love the beach and it is quieter than Wildwood. The Victorian architecture is beautiful and creates a nostalgic atmosphere that I find peaceful. I'll check out the Montreal Inn for you, I know where it is. Tell me about Wildwood Crest.
Terry - Have a great time at the shore! Toms River is a little north. You like Wildwood Crest, too? What's in Wildwood Crest? I had an aunt who used to live in Wildwood but near the Crest, I think. Isn't that south of Wildwood?
I love to travel far and wide. But there is nothing like the Jersey shore. I can feel the tension and stress just ease away with my first whiff of the Jersey shore ocean breeze. Nothing like getting up early in the morning and walking the beach/boards/promenade. A little sea mist in the air and nothing but seagulls for mates and a good cup of coffee. Totally wrecks my hair but restores my soul.

We go to North Wildwood every September for the Firefighter convention. On the island, it's North Wildwood, then Wildwood and then the Crest. They run into each other and it's hard to tell when one ends and the other begins. The Crest is more family oriented and a lot quieter. In North Wildwood the beach used to be very wide but now there's not much left. There's more beach in Wildwood and in the Crest.
You might have a harder time finding a motel in the Crest than the other Wildwoods. Would you consider renting a house?
I haven't been in Cape May for years. We used to sit at the raw bar on the dock and eat and drink. I've always wanted to eat at the Lobster House.
Karel:
We go to the Fireman's convention every year. My husband is in the Stratford Fire Dept. which Dept. do you go with?
We are headed to Wildwood on the 17th for a week with friends I can't wait eventhough Ocean City is my favorite.

My husband is with Wenonah Fire Co. We stay in N. Wildwood at Long Beach Lodge. It on the corner of Ninth, right across from the beach. All the rooms open onto balconies facing the beach. It is one of the nicest places to sit and relax. Our whole fire co. takes the top floor every year.
Do you watch the fire truck parade?
Sea Isle is my favorite beach. We used to get the second floor of a house with friends, B.C. (before children)

Wildwood Crest is south of Wildwood, and is very quiet and is family-oriented, just like Karel said. There isn't a real lot to do right there, but it's right next to the Wildwood itself, and a short drive to other attractions, and Cape May. We always stay at a hotel right *on* the beach, with rooms facing the ocean.
I've stayed at The Madrid hotel several times. http://www.madridmotel.com/ Every ones of their rooms faces the ocean. There are a lot of hotels right on the beach in Wildwood Crest, and there are a lot more which are just off the beach by a block or so. Of course, the closer you are to the beach, the more expensive they are, but all in all, I don't find the hotels there to be overly expensive at all, relatively speaking!
Here's another hotel that I like a lot: http://www.regesresort.com/
I SO cannot wait to get to NJ, less than a week now!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
P.S. A friend of mine goes to the Firemen's Convention every year, her husband and brother in law are with the South Amboy Fire Dept. They've been going for well over 20 years now!

Darlene....As everyone has already said Wildwood Crest is just a bit more on the relaxing side, more family oriented, and IMO the closest thing in Wildwood area to Cape May. The beaches do run together from North Wildwood, Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest - but the atmosphere around each is different. Don't get me wrong - I love the piers just as much as anyone else but I also like the quiet relaxation that you can't seem to get near them! lol I do still LOVE Cape May but I have been overruled by DH and DS's that Wildwood area is the place to go and Cape May is reserved for day trips for us now! I just love to walk around in that town and see all the old buildings! I can see it now...Uncle Bill's pancakes YUM...Morrow's Nut House....getting hungry! :)
Terry... Thanks for the hotel suggestions. Will check out the sites. Wish I was going there sooner than next year, but oh well! I do live in FL so the beach isn't too far away ever...not the Jersey Shore of course, but a beach just the same! :)
Karel... we did consider renting a house since our family in NJ will probably stop down to visit us while we are there it may be the best way to go.
Enjoy your day everyone!

Melanie - You're making my mouth water **Morrow's**Uncle Bill's**! Can't wait for Sat to get here. I still have to pack but it is much easier now that DD doesn't need special equipment. I remember her first year - pack-n-play, stroller, formula, diapers, diaper disposals, a zillion changes of clothes- and carrying it all up three flights of stairs.
I really think if you can rent a house you will appreciate it. I found when we traveled to Florida with family that it was cheaper and more convenient at times to rent a house.

Reenieny - just a small note about the shipwreck snorkle in grand cayman... we did it last november on Navigator of the Seas and if its the same ship wreck (the Cali) the water is much much deeper than 3 feet. (probably 20 feet or so). The wreck is right off the coast of Georgetown in front of where all the ships dock. It was very cool to see - my kids enjoyed it alot.
You might want to ask that question of disney so your sister knows before hand.

Hi Doreen, Did you book Play del Sol thru Disney or are you doing it on your own? I'm thinking maybe we could take a cab there & that way we can leave when we want. We have friends in Key West, so we may have them show us around, but I'm pretty sure we are going to do the Butterflies & the Aquarium. I'm not use to not having anything planned, but my DH advised me he trusts whatever I choose.:hyper: Nothing like a little pressure. I have to start making a list of things to pack, but we have so much going on that I can't seem to find the time. Is anyone bringing liquor onboard? My girlfriend & I love mudslides so I was thinking of maybe buying a bottle for our room. My BIL is thinking of bringing a case of beer for his room, otherwise he'll have no money for anything else! Ohhh, I make it sound like he's an alcoholic, but he does like his beers! I didn't have an assigned room when I booked so I am really looking foward to my docs., so I can see where we all finally ended up! Hello all--
I know some of you have mentioned missing your coutdowns to the cruise so I thought I would share a cool program I found on the net. It's called Time Left and basically its a countdown program that will countdown to any event, time, and day you set. It has a TON of different fonts, colors, and other effects that you can set. You can set it to "stay on the top window" meaning that when you open a new window you'll still be able to see the countdown or you can close it and it will only reopen the next time you turn on the PC.
Best of all, it's FREE! (Well, the light version, anyway.)
I've had the program installed on my compter for ever now and it works very well. There's no bundled shareware or anything with the program either.

Hey Ginny, Are you bringing your liquor on board at Cape Canaveral or some place else? My BIL was thinking he would wait until Key West to buy his beer, is one place cheaper than the other? I'm really going to enjoy this cruise as I can tell there are alot of others who are just like us! I just hope I can manage the late nights & early mornings!:p By the way, we are doing the late dining..which are you doing? My DH is not use to eating late so this should be interesting. My DD is going to be happy to know that there are so many other girls her age on board also! She is very outgoing & makes friends easily, unlike her mom! My DS & I are the shy ones, but the rest of my family makes up for us!::yes:: I've been trying to get my girlfriend to log on to the DIS, but she never has any time. Boy, will she be stunned when she finds out how many people I'm going to know on this Cruise!;) But now I have to get to work, I have so much house cleaning to do & nothing is getting done while I'm online! See ya'll later! Kathy :wave2:

Kathy - we always bring our stuff on board when we get on in Port Canaveral.. There is a liquor store down the road from the radisson that has Corona in cans (DH's favorite beer) so we usually get a case of that and then if we run out we can get more at the islands...
As far as dining.. we have early dining. We had late dining our first cruise and basically had our kids falling asleep at the dinner table each night. Your DH will be ok with late - have him get some room service like cheese and crackers each night while your getting ready and that will hold him over til dinner.
I know what you mean about other people not logging on.. My sister and I have had this cruise booked since 12/2002 and she has never logged on.. she just has me make her all the same reservations that I make myself and knows that I will know all the inside info from these boards and will share it with her.
Are you staying at the Radisson the night before the cruise... if so, our kids will get a chance to meet then.. I have a 9 year old DD and 6 year old DS, and my sisters kids are 8 and 4.

Hi Ginny, I'm or I should say, we are flying in the day of the cruise. I know, I know, what if something happens. I have trip insurance & we all couldn't get the day before off, so we are leaving on a 7am flight. I hope to be at the ship by 11am, if not
a little earlier. I don't know how early the liquor stores open, but if they are open that early we will probably get our "drinks" before boarding at Cape Canaveral. My DD is 10 & my DS is 9. Hopefully we will meet up early on, my DD is very outgoing & will probably make friends with some of the kids before we even board. Meanwhile my DS is the shy one so he usually has a harder time. I feel like we're old friends already. Look foward to chatting with you & meeting you & all the other Dis'ers on this Cruise. I have only met one other Dis'er & that was a wonderful experience. ::yes:: This cruise is going to be DISLicious, in more ways than one! Kathy :wave2:

Hi Bobby,
May I request a magnet for my family please? What information do you need? Here is some basic info: The O'Brien Family Stateroom 6110. Celebrating 20th Anniversary. We're from Central NJ. Does that cover it? Thanks very much in advance. It's really nice of you to do this for everybody!!
On another note, I talked to Debbie yesterday about our REAS reservations. She couldn't have been nicer - just like everyone says. We requested the APL rotation. Booked Palo brunch on Monday at 11, Massages on Monday at 3:30 and Palo dinner on Thurs. at 8. I'm wondering if I shouldn't change the dinner to Tuesday night? Is Thursday night okay for Palo's? Isn't it the Captain's Gala? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!
Three circles: Thanks for the address for the countdown I loaded it and now my DS(8) is back on track for the cruise. He missed the count.
Even though we are going on the same cruise as all of you DISers I feel as if our cruise is further away because we aren't leaving our houses untill the morning of so I'm still in the 50's for days actually 501/2:)
Any one going golfing in grand cayman?

Carolyn--
We're right with you girl! We won't be leaving until the morning of the cruise either.
We generally finish packing around midnight the night before the cruise :), get six hours or less of sleep, and leave the house around 7:30 or 8:00. That generally puts us at the port by 10:00 or 10:30.
So, in short, we too still have about 50 days!
Glad to hear that John is enjoying the countdown. I think it's a pretty cool program myself!

so it takes you guys 3-3.5 hours to get there as well. that is what we are figuring. I'm hoping i can get the whole family going on my timeline to get there. everyone putters around alot. if it were just my house (3 of us) I would go the night before but we'll have to see if i can get everyone going we are lokking to leave around 7:30 We'll get there around 10 I'm assuming. We've never driven there so i got directions of the internet.
That should be funny! Our car pool and nobody has ever driven there before.  I'm glad i'm good with maps and directions.!!!!!:smooth:

Yeah. We usually figure 2.5 hours or so if I-4 is clear. Of course, I-4 is a disaster but that's another story.
You probably won't have any problems with the drive and the directions to the port. It's a pretty straight shot.
For our first cruise, way back in May of 2000, we stayed overnight at Disney and then drove the rest of the way to the port on the morning of the cruise. That made it a bit less stressful for the first time. Now that we've done it a couple of times though, we're pretty comfortable with driving the whole way the morning of.

But I loved the Yankees when Thurman Munson was playing for them! Think I have a thing for catchers!::yes:: Anyway, just wanted to say "hi" & look foward to meeting you on the Cruise! Anyone interested in a fishing excursion from this group? I am researching all ports to see what each one offers, such as what fish they go out for & the prices & times. My family loves to fish & my DH & BIL would love to fish while we are away. If any of you know of any good charters I would love to know about it. I am interested in all ports but CC, I'm sure there are some fellow fisherman/fisherwomen out there. Also, if there are others interested maybe we could get a group rate! Just a thought! We are flying down MaryAnne. I prefer to fly in/out of JFK, but I got a great price with AA and so I am flying in/out of LGA:rolleyes: I know what you mean about panic setting in! I feel so disorganized! I'm finding I've been very indecisive lately. :scratchin I'm glad I have that extra week, otherwise they just might be carting me away! Bobby I know what you mean about price for the fishing trips!:faint: My DH felt CC was too high, he should only see some of the prices I've seen! Shirley from the Perfect Gift has offered to see if she can find someone for us in Key West (*thanks Shirley*). I guess we're spoiled as we go out on my DH's boat when we want to go fishing, or Sheepshead Bay. I figured this is a chance for my DH to fish for something he has never fished for before. He has a friend in Key West & we are going to see what he recommends, as soon as I know something I will be sure to let you know! I'm really going to try & work on this! Kathy:wave2:

I will fly out of LaG if I have too but will never, ever fly into it again! (Haven't for close to 10 years).
We are are Jet Blue so we're going into and out of JFK.
Can I ask what you're paying for your air? We booked kind of late, I was dragging my feet should have done it about two months before and would have gotten it slighly cheaper. Last March we paid about $225 round trip per person but the flight times were what we wanted, it went in and out of JFK and we really like Jet Blue. My flight now is up to $438 PER PERSON. Glad we booked when we did.
If anyone sees me online during the day tomorrow tell me to get off the PC, LOL< I really need to start laying stuff out, especially the dress clothing. I think DH's Tux needs to go to the cleaners and I have to see what still FITS me from our last cruise. Oldest Son needs colored dress shirts. All he has is white from school and he said he has no problem wearing a shirt and tie for dinner but he wants something more classy and modern then just white. Can't say I blame the poor kid.
You know, I never ever got anything from Disney regarding shore stuff. I'm not planning on doing anything but has anyone else NOT heard from them.
Don't tell, I'm watching the thread that sails before us so I can see when their documents start showing up so I'll know ours are only a few days before.

Hi MaryAnne, I'm paying $175 per person. That is why I am in LGA. I couldn't get a decent price with JetBlue, I would love to fly on them but I have always found someone else who beats their price! Go figure! We aren't coming home until 9/6 as my girlfriends son has never been to Florida. She thinks he wants to do Universal as he likes Nickelodeon. We have been to WDW & Universal plenty, so either one is fine by me. I'm still ordering/buying clothes for the Cruise. We have something planned every week-end until 8/8. I think I have 2 free week-ends before we depart to get everything together. Kathy :wave2:

I made a very exciting vacation purchase today - laundry soap ! Whoopie! ;) I also found stain remover laundry tablets at the dollar store. Since we're going to be on the road for fourteen days, including four travel days, I figure I'm going to have to do laundry at some point.
I did consider flying down because SW had air fare from Philly at $100 roundtrip. This is an excellent price. But then we'd have to think about other transportation and watch our packing (ie pack less) and decided maybe it wasn't all that great.

Cindy: I know what you mean. The stroller baskets are always a great place to carry stuff. I bought a jogging stroller last year large enough to accomodate DD and it HAD to have pockets and storage! I think for our trip down the shore I have just substituted paraphanalia for paraphanalia. Buckets, shovels, jump ropes, books, water bottles, nail polish, hair bands, you name it we are taking it! Someday I am walking out the door with a towel and a tooth brush. I'll probably be 80 but the day will come!
I'm leaving in the morning. Everyone have a great week!!!

I also never recieved anything from Disney about the shore excursions. I do have the booklet from our last cruise, and I also have looked on line and nothing has changed. I may book my excursions next week.
My 8 yr old is harassing me about Parasailing, I told her I was afraid to go and she started saying she was also, but without me she can't go and don't you think we should face our fears together. LOL
Now my 12 yr old is saying she IS going parasailing and going alone. When I ask her if she is afraid her answer to me is, afraid of what, riding above the ocean with a parachute attached to me and a life jacket on, yeah mom real scary.
Nothing like a 12 yr old putting things in perspective for you. I took my little one to the park last week and I went on the swing and I got pretty high up and when I was slowing down I got a little motion sickness feeling, that is when I decided I wasn't real sure about parasailing.
Well we are at 7 weeks until the cruise and 8 weeks until school starts, figure the second one will make everyone moan.
Have a great weekend

Um, I don't think that 21 will fit on the shuttle with all the luggage. Do they have two shuttles? Seems to me that there was space for 10, maybe 12.
I remember a big passenger van with three rows of seats. Maybe four? And then there's all the luggage.

I thought I read that they now had a big type bus that held 35
Has anyone else heard this?

I think that bigger one is the one I've heard about Bobby! That'll fit our group just fine; :Pinkbounc
Since someone mentioned luggage, exactly how much is everyone taking. I have to admit, we travel very light. I use totes bags, they hold quite bit and then fold up int small pouches. We've been traveling with them for years now. We each have our own and they always are big enough for four days worth of clothing complete outfits and then some. We'll also have a luggage carry on that will fit the dressy outfits and DH's tux. So in all I'm thinking 5 carrry on's, (one will just be shoes) and the garmet bag. I'll do laundry once or twice, doesn't bother me. This way we can just do carry on on the airplane. I hate checking luggage.

they better have a bigger shuttle than last time or knowing how anxious this crew is we will all be sitting on each others laps just to get on that 10AM shuttle. LOL
The post that I got the information on about the 10AM shuttle said it was very organized which is an improvement in itself.. last time in 2002 it was pretty much first come first serve.

MaryAnne - I will be the first to admit. I do not travel light... I will have at least 5-6 suitcases and the rolling cooler, of course... We will be away for 17 days and although I plan on doing several loads of laundry... I know I will overpack.. I always do... but Id rather have too much than too little.
Im one of those anal people who also travels with a full pharmacy of any possible medication my kids could need.... again better safe than sorry.

Well, that first one is big enough! I remember the red one in the back. Maybe when Avis left they needed bigger vans??

OK... Bobby is out of his mind....you'd think that after being married for over 10 years he would know that all of us have at least one suitcase, a garment bag, the big bag of everything that goes in the front of the van, the pharmacy bag ( for every imaginable thing that could possibly go wrong, from Boo Boos to bee stings), the shoe bag, the souvineer bag and two coolers (one for food and one for drinks) ...
You would think he would know, especially because he is the only one that loads and unloads the car. Oh yeah I forgot the bag for the camera and camcorder, film, and chargers for everything.
Can't wait!!!! Cindy ::MinnieMo

Cindy... LOL my DH Bob is exactly the same.... doesnt have a clue.. thinks I pack way too much.. but is always glad when he asks did I remember this or that and I can say Yes...
He lovingly refers to himself as a pack mule when we go on vacation. Hopefully the kids can at least pull one suitcase each since all our new luggage is on wheels.

I think I'll stick with the 10:30.
Luggage wise, we'll have a lot. We drive down so I always overpack. I do want to try to cut down this time though because don't use a lot of the stuff and/or forget that it's there.

I'm going to *try* and not over-pack. LOL Our usual luggage is: 2 large suitcases, 2 medium suitcases, 2 small suitcases which can be used as carry-ons, and 2 garment bags. DSs will each have a backpack, I'll have my purse as well as some kind of soft-sided carry-all bag, and DH will have to carry the camera bags and the laptop case. If we were driving I know I'd bring more luggage, but it's a pain with flying and all of the transportation legs of our trip.
I know we'll be buying shirts as souvenirs so I'm going to try and cut down on how many shirts I pack for each of us and then we can use our new shirts while we're away.
On our cruise last year, I packed too many shorts and capri sets, and not enough dresses. I don't mean fancy dresses (I'm bring 3 "nice" dresses this year for formal, semi-formal, and Palo nights), just nice casual sundresses. I recently bought a couple of long sundresses, and I'm planning on wearing these to dinner on the casual nights. Last cruise, my SILs wore sundresses to dinner on the casual nights and they looked great, and were very comfortable, and I had wished I had done the same thing. Live and learn ::yes::

On our first cruise when I brought the over the door shoe holder for toiletries, jewelry and such, everything but shoes LOL. DH said I was carrying it a little too far, until we cruised and he just couldn't stop saying wow this shoe holder is such a great idea, along with the Downy wrinkle releaser, we now started using it at home.
That is weird with not having the reply button, it is there but on top, now it is back to normal. strange.

Joanna - thats so funny about the shoe holder... my DH did the same thing.. thought it was so silly til he saw how great it worked.... we were at my nieces birthday party today I heard him telling BIL make sure you guys get a shoe holder.. I wanted to laugh... As far as Downy wrinkle releaser... it is a staple in my house too..
I went back into the poll and the buttons are now there so I was able to reply
