View Full Version : I Cut My Hair!!!!

I know I said that I didn't know what to do with my hair so I was just going to keep it the same instead of rewarding myself but I decided yesterday afternoon to just do it! :)

There is a salon/spa here in town that I wanted to try so I stopped by after work just on the off chance that they might have something open. Well they had just had a cancellation for 7 PM and it was mine if I wanted it. :)

I went ahead and picked up DS and then when DH got home I just told him that I had a hair appt. at 7 and he would have to put Nathan down to bed, etc. tonight. I know he was a little afraid that I would come back with super short hair but he was really great about it.

When I left the house I was still not really sure what I wanted to do with my hair. I knew that at a minimum I wanted at least 2-3 inches cut off just for the change and maybe have a little layering done to add some body.

I was so excited that I got there a little early so I waited in the lobby for about 15 minutes. This place is great. It smelled so wonderful and it was relaxing even just sitting in the lobby - which was really a sunroom. :) You have to understand that I am a very low key/maintenance person and I have never been to a place like this. I always got my hair cut at one of those walk-in discount places. So this was a very new experience.

I met Casey who was going to do my hair and she was great and really put me at ease. We sat down and I told her that I was just looking for a change but I didn't really know what would look best with my round face, hair texture, etc. She came up with some really good suggestions and we finally settled on cutting about 5 inches or so off the length and doing a little bit of framing around my face.

This is when I discovered how nice these salons/spas must be. The first thing they do after that is use a stress relieving treatment. You sit down and they put these wonderful smelling oils in your hair while they give you a scalp and neck massage. Ahhhh...I could get used to that. :teeth: After washing my hair she then went to work on cutting it. She was super nice and really took time to get it right and to make sure that I was happy with the results. I am so used to the 10 minute quickie haircut that it was strange for someone to work on it so long.

After she was finished I have to say that I really do like. It is a change but not something too drastic because I still have plenty of length left but the framing really gives it a little bit of style which is what I had been missing. I talked to her some more and I decided that I would like to do a partial foil that will add some well placed accents to my hair to give it a little sun-kissed looked without changing the color of my hair. I made the appointment for that on the 17th. :) This is a really big deal for me as well because I have NEVER colored, tinted, foiled, etc. my hair. I hope it goes well.

Overall I was very pleased with my experience. I took one of their "spa menus" on my way out. :teeth: I am now thinking that perhaps something like a facial or a manicure, etc. might be a good reward. I have never had any kind of spa treatment. I never had a facial, a manicure, massage, etc. so this will also be new ground for me. I always thought a massage would be great but I have been way too shy because of my body size. Hopefully I will lose enough weight by the end of the year that I can really treat myself to a massage (I need to get DH to get me a gift certificate for Christmas ;) ). However, I think the facial, manicure, etc. would work a little sooner. I have lost 22 pounds so I was thinking maybe get a facial at 35 pounds and a manicure/pedicure at 50 pounds? I can see why I should not have gone because I have a feeling this spa stuff could get expensive and addicting. :teeth:

Well I have rambled on just about long enough but I did want to tell you about DH's reaction. When he heard the garage door go up he came into the kitchen and held his hands over his eyes. When I walked into the house he just said "How bad is it? Can I look?" ;) I relieved him right away and told him that I didn't chop it all off so he could look. He really liked it as well although he still mourns the loss of that 5 inches. ;) :p :)

How exciting Becka! I hope you'll soon post a picture [before and after ofcourse] for us to see! The anticipation will KILL me!

That's right, I forgot --- you don't have any individual identity and will surely have to have Nathan on your lap for the picture --- what the heck --- I'd LOVE to see an updated picture of HIM too!;)

BECKA!!!

:teeth:

I am so happy you did this! I can tell it felt really GOOD to put yourself in hands of this stylist. It sounds like she truly took a good look at you, listened to you, and came up with a way to make you look and feel terrific. :)

The foil highlighting thing is fun too. I just did this for the first time a couple months ago. I'm a natural blonde, but sort of a boring ash blonde. When the stylist recommended the foil highlights, I was leery. It sounded high-maintenance and just too "girly." But I was ready for a pick-me-up, so I gave in. And now I love it! She put in some darker reddish-blonde lowlights, and some lighter sunny-blonde highlights. So it's mostly my natural color, with some lighter and some darker strands. Not enough difference to really be noticeable to anybody else, but I can tell. She should be able to make you look not different, but just a little brighter.

If you enjoyed the luxury and pampering of this haircut, just wait until you try the pedicure. :p HEAVEN! Normally, you'll sit in a comfy chair with your feet in a little whirlpool. SO relaxing!! Then they might use some kind of scrub on your feet, polish off any rough skin with a little buffer, clean off any polish, massage the tootsies with lotion, shape and polish your toenails. Ahhh! :)

Welcome to the world of the high-maintenance woman- you're worth it!!!

PICTURES- we want to see the new look!!

SOunds great! I hope you post a picture soon! I want to see it!!!
I am letting my hair grow some as it has been real short for a long time. A friend suggested I grow it long, and I am liking it this way :)

Yes, I would love to see a picture as well!! I bet you look great with your nice new do! (not that you didn't look fabulous before! LOL)

A spa treatment sounds like a wonderful idea for a reward...you will have to let me know how it is, I have never had one either!! :)

So, where are the pictures?

And, yes, the spa thing gets very addicting! I can't do w/o my regular manicure and the way I figure it is 1. I'm worth it and 2. I deserve it, weight loss or not. Anyway, the special stuff makes a great reward for goals met! I'm glad you had such a good experience.

Ahhhhhh, sounds so relaxing. You deserve it! I'm so happy that you like your new hair cut!

I have yet to try a pedicure but I hear they are wonderful. Go for it, you wait on people all day long (baby, hubby), there's nothing wrong with a little "you" time.

Okay, let's see a pic!;)
