On one of our non-Disney days my DH wants to go to a fishing pier in Clearwater. He has heard the fishing is good and there is a nice beach too. Has anyone been there? Besides the beach and fishing pier, is there any other family activities that you would recommend? How about places to eat?
Our kids are 14, 11, 6, and 2.
Thanks!:)

I used to live about 5 monutes down the beach from Clearwater beach. Check out Pier 60 which at night has wonderful arts and crafts and music. Also drive towards St. Petersburg and you will hit the Madiera Beach area. There you will find John's Pass Boardwalk where there are hundreds of shops and a few good places to eat too! Also, there is the Clearwater Aquarium and also the Seabird Sanctuary at Indian Rocks Beach.
You can do the PIrate Cruise (kids love it) or the dolphin watching cruises. Also the Show Queen which is a dinner and lunch cruise around the bay and out into the gulf. There is miniature golf nearby also. For the best seafood, drive again in the direction of St, Pete and eat at Crabby Bills in Indian Rocks Beach. Awesome seafood. We eat there at least 3-4 times wach trip when we go back. For accomodations and attractions in Clearwater, go to www.beachdirectory.com
Let me know how it goes, have a great time!! I love Clearwater :)

I'm moving to Clearwater in a little more than a month!

If you drive a little bit north, hit up Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands right near Dunedin. Honeymoon Island is a state park and it's gorgeous -- there's good shelling there, too. Caladesi is only accessible by ferry from Honeymoon Island, but it's unspoiled beach and beautiful. Tons of animals and the water's great.

The Clearwater aquarium is fun -- my nephew is 8 and it's one of his favorite places to go.
