View Full Version : WebCertificate Question
This is such a basic question, I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but I am interested. What can you use the Web Certificates for and how do they get you closer to WDW? I am pretty new to all of this. I know SuzyKats has Disney Dollars, but what about Blink? Can the Web Certificates be used for airline tix or anything like that?
Obviously I am very much in the dark, so if anyone could enlighten me, I would appreciate it!

There are two ways that you can use webcerts. (you can combine all of them into one account, even from different family members)
1: You can get the plastic card and use it just like a debit mastercard. The cost of the plastic card is $6.95, I believe.
2: You can opt to not get the plastic card and use it to pay for things over the internet. For instance, I am using Dreams Unlimited for my trip and they have an online form to make payment on your hotel room, so everytime I get a $10 webcertificate, i just go and pay $10 on our bill. I know that in the time I have left, I won't get enough to pay off the room and still have money left on the card, so I am not going to pay for the card itself.
Thanks. I'm beginning to be enlightened. :) If there are other places for me to get more information, let me know.

I had gotten the plastic web cert card thru Freeride when they offered a fairly good deal for it & managed to get $45 in webcerts thru Freeride betwwen late Feb & late April when they died. I also converted $40 from Beenz thru BeenzDragon for the same time period. I then took my plastic webcert card to the local Disney Store & got $80(left $5 on card just in case) worth of Disney Dollars which will go for 2 nice dinners for our upcoming trip to wdw. This was the easiest transaction ever at the Disney Store(usually I'm using both Disney Club card & Disney Credit card with various signatures, club card #, etc), no questions asked, no problems at all. Maleficent2 had problems at her local Disney Store, but it was a dream for me. I'm now doing HowHot for more webcerts.
OK, let me see if I have this straight. I can get the plastice web cert. card, and any reward site that offers web certificates (do all of them?) can be combined and put on this card. Let me know if this is right. And where do I get the card--I missed that part?
CapeCod53--what is this HowHot thingie? Fill me in. I'm trying to get a trip in the fall and the spring and need all of the help I can get!!!!:earsgirl:  :earsgirl:

Yes, you are correct about putting all webcertificate earnings into one account. Then you can use your card, which looks just like a regular Mastercard, anywhere that Mastercard is accepted. When Freeride was around, we were adding to our Webbies fast! It's slower now, but I have about $300 on mine for my trip in July. I will use it to pay for a few Disney meals. It is so handy, so be sure to get the plastic card after you open your account.
Sorry to be so dense, but where do I get the card? Do I get it from any site, specific site, or do I wait until I earn enough points to cash out or what? Thanks!

You can go to the webcertificates.com site and there will be a 1-800 number that you can call to get the card. I think you have to have a credit card handy to charge the $6.95 to, but this may have changed.

Kaye, only started doing HowHot after Beenz & Freeride crashed. It was also down for awhile so I only have 758 pts & you need 1295 for a $10 webcert. Right now only have visit & earn section that you click on sites to earn mostly just 1 pt each. They did have & claim to be bringing back a search & earn section. I think we got 2 pts each for those. For a few days I think we were getting over 50 pts, now its only 23-24 pts. Its similiar to searchcactus in that you must let the sites fully load & stay open(30 sec is what I was told). I usually click on 1 link in site just to be sure. I do howhot & searchcactus at the same time & just clik back & forth. Works well (except when I can't find any "eyes" on searchcactus). Just like searchcactus you must go back to a point list to check that you got credited. Freeride was so nice since you could see that you got the credit right away. You can also shop & join things at howhot. I have not done any of those. Hope this explains it. www.howhot.com.

As far as any of us have been able to tell, the is no way that we can get disney dollars online.
Thanks again everybody, but I thought I understood, and now I don't think I do. I swear, I do function as a normal person most days. :)
I guess I need a scenario played out to get it. I am laughing as I type this because I am pretty sure it can't be as hard as I am making it out to be in my head.
So, let's say I have earned a $10 web certificate, and I use my accumulated points to "buy" it. How do the points get put on the card or in my account. I think I want the card so I can Disney Dollars at TDS. I need the nuts and bolts, step by step explanation. I am sorry you have to spend so much time with this student! I really appreciate the help (not to mention the patience).

Kaye, don't worry about it! I didn't cash in for a webcert for a long time because I was afraid that I wouldn't understand it and would just mess up my $$. :)
Okay, we will use mypoints for an example.
You cash out at mypoints for a $10 webcert. They notify webcert to send you one. This is where it is kind of different from other programs. The webcert will come from webcertificates.com not the mypoints. In the subject line of the email it will say, "Here is your webcertificate from Mypoints"
Open that email. There will be a link in the email, click on it. It will take you to the webcertificate site and show you what looks like a greeting card telling you how much the webcert is. It will then ask you to log in or create a new account. Create the new account. All they will want to know is the basics of your name, address, etc. It will then set up your account and your money will be instantly available for use. It will show you your balance, account number, and experation date. If you use it online, use it just like a mastercard.
Now after you have redeemed the first one, whenever you get another one, all you will have to do is click the link, and put in your email address and password and it will be instantly added to your account.
And remember that all webcertificates from the different programs, and all family members webcerts can all go into the same account.
dmslush--Thank you, thank you. I think I get it. At least with the account. Your explanation was excellent Now is it the same with the actual card that you pay $6.95 for? I guess I am wondering, and I hope this is my last question, how the $$ gets on the card? :jester: I know this is the jester smiley, but it was the closest thing to a dunce smiley!!!

I don't have the plastic card, but from what I have read everywhere, the redemption is the same.
For how the $$ gets on the card is really the same way we get a paper gift certificate from one of the programs. (Mypoints again as the example) When we redeem for a Rain Forest Cafe gift certificate through mypoints, they send us one that they have purchased (which we are purchasing from them with our points), it is the same as cash at Rainforest, right? Webcerts are the same. Mypoints purchases the $10 webcertificate from the webcert site and tells them to send us the money. When we click the link and put the webcert into our account, we are cashing in the "giftcertificate" that mypoints has given us.
Thanks again, dsmlush. You have helped a lot. Now I can't wait until I can actually put all of this information to work! :bounce:

Kaye, I'm not an expert at this either but my understanding about the plastic webcert card vs just using it on-line is this: when you establish an account with webcertificate.com you actually open a debit mastercard account with a regular mastercard account number. When you order things on-line with any type of credit card you are not "showing" the site your actual credit card, only providing the credit card number, so that is why you don't need to "buy" a plastic webcert card if you are only going to shop on-line with it. However if you want to physically go to a store, ie, The Disney Store to purchase Disney dollars because you can't buy them on-line, you need to have the plastic credit card to hand over at the store just as you would with a regular VISA card. So webcert.com will "sell" you a plastic credit card with your account number on it. It was easier for me because Freeride had you purchase the plastic card as part of your 1st webcert, otherwise the options were to "recharge" only. Hope this makes sense.:)
Thanks CapeCod53, I do think I understand now. :) :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :)

Thanks for the detailed explanations for the webcert and webcert plastic card. I have printed this thread out for future reference. I will be requesting a webcert for my first cashout with mypoints on May 30th, before the "cost goes up 100 points for $10. cert. I think I will hold off on purchasing the plastic card until I can accumulate more $$. I wish milesource would start offering the webcert also.
Thanks again,

You also can use the webcert card at any WDW restaurant or store. You don't have to buy disney dollars with your webcert card for spending at WDW. The card itself is all you need. I used it in Jan. at WDW and never had a problem.

That is great news Muffy! Thanks for sharing the info.

Just to let everyone know, the plastic card and the online account are one and the same. The plastic card just allows you to access your webcertificate account offline.
You don't have to "transfer" funds to the plastic card.

I'm going to check out Howhot.com later. Do you know if there is a limit to accounts per household? Or is there a referral so that if someone else in my family signs up I will receive something for it?
Don't want to go in blind and end up making mistakes that you guys have already discovered.
PS, I love my webcertficate card. I will be using this for some of our meals in South Dakota next month. Very hard this time because we are building a huge 6 car garage and I have only hotel $ saved. Nothing for gas, etc which is NOT LIKE ME AT ALL. But I do have enough for most of our food on our webcertificate card and another $45 coming from my points probably a week from Monday. (I think they cut orders every Friday). Plus $25 from the Saturn test drive if it gets here before we go.
Warning-Don't assume they will put a hold on the exact amount you are spending. Restaurants usually approve the transaction with a hefty tip included in the approval. That holds the entire amount they ran thru until the actual transaction processes. Hotels will also do this. So I always try to calculate a little extra and I will not use it at a hotel so I don't end up running out of $ on it temporarily.

I don't think there is a limit on howhot accounts per household. They have a referal where you get some points when your referal confirms their email address, but I have never gotten my points for it.

Vic,
If you have a webcertificate account and want to use it to pay on your ressies, you can. I am using dreams unlimited, and I just put it in like a mastercard and have never had any problem. I have paid over $200 on my ressies with the webcertificate and it has all went through fine.
