Why yes. You know the old saying? I would much rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I started packing for May 8, 7 day cruise (plus we are going to be in the Cape Canaveral area for 3 days prior to cruise), and there is NO way I'm going to get all our stuff in a suitcase for each of us. I have two suitcases full, plus a small carry-on suitcase and we haven't even gotten the evening clothes packed. Do you guys take a different outfit for each evening plus different day outfits? Oh my gosh, I forgot the different shoes. Now, I'm getting sick. There is just NO WAY, I can do this. Is anyone else having problems or should we take two suitcases each, plus our carry-ons? I'd like to know what others are going to do, thanks.

I'm not taking a different outfit for each dinner....I doubt anyone will look and me and say "hey she wore that outfit the first day of the cruise" LOL....I change right after dinner so unless I drop food all over myself I will be rewearing each dinner outfit once. I am also skipping formal night so that is one less outfit I have to bring. I am goign to bring a nice pair of white sandles that should go with every outfit so that limits my shoes. I hate packing all that stuff to go, I like going as light as possible. I am also going to do laundry halfway through so I will only have to pack half the amount of clothes I need. I am only taking one big suitcase and one small one for toiletries. My daughter has her own tiny disney suitcase that most of her clothes are in. I really don't have a choice but to pack light, I also have a car seat that I will have to be hauling around the airport with me!

Aprilgail2, You make me feel much better. That will help if I only take half the evening clothes. I thought about white sandals, but didn't know how people would react to white before Memorial Day. Not that I usually worry about such things, but going on this cruise has me a little worried about such things. My husband and I are just country folks, so to speak. Usually my outlook is "If people don't like the way I look, then tough", but for some reason I'm getting so uptight over this 7-day cruise. Thanks again, for making me feel better - white sandals are going to be packed now (that will help a lot)!!

LOL...I didn't even think of that...but when you are on a cruise every day is SUMMER as far as I am concerned and I can wear white sandles if I want....if anyone wants to look at my feet and check the color of my shoes well then be my guest LOL...you walk in the restaurant, your feet go under the table and no one sees them again until you walk out LOL...

You have to know my husband. He can't stand to wait until the last minute or be late for anything. The airport says get there 2 hours ahead of time, we're there 3 hours. Something opens at 9AM, we're there at 8AM or sooner. He's a fanatic. He's been on me to start packing for 2 weeks now. Nothing can be out of place, or out of order. I'm NOT allowed to pack (I just bring the stuff downstairs to the basement where the suitcases are) because I won't do it right. This vacation should be something too, I don't know if we'll kill each other being cooped up together for 7 days in a little space or not, LOL. He's already angry because I don't have the itenerary done yet. We have to have a day by day schedule, and no he was NEVER in the military.

Lol....well that is like a built in travel agent to me.....
Just let him plan everything and sit back and relax.
The ship is soooo big I would definatly venture out beyond your cabin MOST if not ALL of the time. I think ANYONE would kill one another if stuck in there too long! LOL

Good luck!

I'll bet they'll meet up in the lab. Maybe we should exchange some info about them in PM so my dd has a new "friend" to look forward to! :) PM me if you're interested.

Oh my gosh. This is so me! I'm in a tizzy over formal night. Formal for me is a denim skirt and a blouse! Dh says that's not formal enough but offers no suggestion as to what WOULD be good! Today at my kids YMCA program I spoke with other, more fashion literate, moms. They recommend the little black dress (it, apparently, goes in every situation) Hmmmm.... how would that look with reeboks?

Ok you fashion experts....
I found a little black dress on the internet (I hate shopping) and I need your opinions....

http://www.lbdtogo.com/getProducts.asp?ID=21

It covers a good bit, which I prefer (I'm not a speghetti strap or strapless kinda girl) I could go sleeveless, but I'm afraid I'll be freezing --I tend to get chilly in A/C

Help! :)

bossladypu
04-08-2004, 08:19 AM
Ohiominnie, I think the dress is elegant. It is also multiple purpose (in that you could wear it for many things, not just
on the cruise and not wear it again). I'm like you, I'm not a speghetti strap or strapless kinda girl. I'm also like aprilgail, in which, I've lost 20 pounds and still trying. So the dress I'm taking is going to hang on me, but I have SPENT so much money on other things, I decided that I would wear a black long dress that I wore to a wedding. But my husband is already complaining about having to pack it.

DisneyForLife
04-08-2004, 08:32 AM
I tend to get cold also so I will be wearing mostly 3/4 length sleeves.
I think that dress is perfect. I am one for comfort and what I feel good in, I don't usually go by the seasons.
The velvet dress in May or the white sandals before Labor Day, go for it.

I have not started packing yet but I do have the infamous pile in the spare room. I think I have everything I need........................
EXCEPT FOR THE DOCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(yes I am shouting, can't help it, I want them)

Got our docs earlier this week, final shopping done, REAS ressies completed, Mother's day gifts ordered. Now just sit back and relax until we go nuts trying to fit everything into our suitcases. See everyone on the ship. - Mike

I was on one May 2002 (I like May cruises huh?? LOL) and I had just started looking at the Dis Boards soon before that and didn't know about any meets or if anyone even had them that cruise but I am looking foward to meeting some fellow Dis'ers on this cruise...and drinking some of Mikes booze he brings on!! (Just kidding Mike, I don't drink LOL!!)

I didn't know about these boards before my last cruise and I am so glad I found them this time. Not only will I get to meet some new people, but I learned so much from all the threads that this time is a whole lot cheaper. I just let a travel agent handle everything last time and it cost A LOT more that way.

Thank you everybody for all the wonderful tips.

You said you last cruised in May, what was the weather like?? Do you think we'll need jackets or light sweaters on board. I am trying not to pack but one pair of jeans each and one light jacket each. Will we need anything else?? We will be staying at Cocoa Beach one week prior to cruise - hopefully we won't need any other "heavy" clothing since it's May and Florida!

We cruised May of 2003. I hadn't packed anything really warm, but wished that I had at least a sweatshirt (I left it in the car at the port and I'm not that good of a swimmer!) The evenings walking on deck 4 were chilly. I would have spent more time out there, strolling on the deck, looking over the railing, lounging in the steamer chairs....except I was too cold!

I will be packing a sweatshirt and maybe a pair of jeans this time.

btw, the WDW portion of the trip was NOT a problem at all, warm and sunny all the time. I think it was just the ocean breezes that cooled it off so much.

I am glad OhioMinnie could answer that question for you! When we went we were in bed most nights by 9 and were not really outside in the evenings so I am not sure what you would need. Now I guess I will pack a sweatshirt that I had not planned on packing. I just remember it being HOT at the islands and the waer warm where ever we went! I remember the deck being to hot to walk barefoot on....but don't know about night times LOL...hopefully this time we will be staying up and out of the room after 9pm!

Hi Bosslady:wave2:

Now that I'm getting ready for our 5/8 Cruise, I'm remembering what I did last year. I packed clothes in one suitcase. The second one allowed per person.... I packed shoes, toiletries - one "gym bag type" had my DD4's life vest, swim shoes, snorkel equit, etc.....

But there were 5 of us, we were alowed 2 suitcases per person. I know we each had a suitcase of clothes and probably 2 other suitcases with all toiletries, shoes, etc.

But we also were at WDW 3 days prior to our cruise.

I am completely UNDECIDED about formal night. It's not that important to me and my sons are pleading with me not to make them dress up. I'm a "club med" vacation type person from my earlier days...... I really don't want to dress up on vacation. My husband wears a tie everyday..... he doesn't like the idea either....

Bosslady... the way you feel about packing is the way I feel about Formal night................... I'm still thinking about it! Haven't decided.

I haven't received my docs yet but I got the brochure for the Shore Excursions.... okay, confuse me even more!

We bring one large suitcase each and an overnight type bag (not too big) for a carryon. I really think rolling your clothes helps with not taking up too much space. And cuts down on the wrinkles also. I have always been one of those organized types though that can fit a whole lot more in a cabinet or closet than you would think possible.
Where there is a will there is a way. Usually!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just don't forget to leave some room for the goodies you will be buying. You can pack another duffle type bag in your suitcase for that just in case you will need it and check it in with your luggage on the way home. I have done that in the past a few times and used it for the laundry.

Happy packing everyone, we are getting closer finally.

The cruise is soooo close yet sooooooooo far. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same duldrums and ho hum attitude about the whole thing as I seem to be. I am mister excitement usually, but the past couple of days I have not felt that usual goof attitude. HELP, I need to get it back. Is it that I have completed all of our plans and now have 27 days until it all comes to fruition? Am I a perpetual planner -- only happy when planning? Give me something else to plan for.... :scared1: :worried: :faint:

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. I've felt rather down also. I'm really worried now that I hear that this cruise is booked. It's going to be my 35th anniversary and I was hoping I could ask for a upgrade at the terminal, but it looks like that won't be possible now. And I'm worried it's going to be so crowded I won't be able to enjoy myself. See I'm just being a gloomy gus, I guess.

That's all I ordered from SHirley was a 12 pack of Corona. You know how fast that is going to go. It will probably be gone by the time we get to Key West. We do get a bottle of Champagne with our REAS package. I'm willing to share some of this as we are not big Champagne drinkers. For anybody looking for the party , it is being held at the Radisson the night before the cruise. Please see aprilgail2 for the specific room numbers. - Mike

While I may not be able to enjoy those Conk Koolers (almost 20, but the legal drinking age in US is 21 as opposed to 19 here in Ontario), I am most definitely looking forward to soaking up that sun!

As for the Dis Meet, I was thinking 3pm on the Monday at the Promenade Lounge. Please PM, e-mail, or post letting me know if this is alright!

Thanks

bossladypu, I think the cruise is full because Mother's day is Sunday, May 9th. I too was hoping to upgrade on board, but will be more than happy just being on the cruise. I think the ship is more than big enough where you will not feel crowded. The only other cruise I have been on was on the NCL Norway in 1990. That cruise was completely sold out and I never had a problem with feeling crowded. Maybe Castaway Cay will be crowded though. No worries, a crowded day at Castaway Cay will beat a lonely day at just about anyplace else. :earseek: :teeth:

I was just checking emails to get my TAs email address and harass her about not receiving my documents yet and guess what I saw.... an email from her letting me know she had just received new documents for me and we were upgraded (from cat 11 to cat 8)! WOW! :Pinkbounc I am really excited now, but I won't believe it until I see the actual documents.

I guess I am going to have to start thinking about packing soon. My biggest dilemma is what shoes to bring. It seems like every outfit I think about bringing needs a different pair of shoes! And I'm not even someone who owns that many different pairs of shoes.

Save a konk kooler for me!

Poohfan2004 - congrats to you, that is great, enjoy

Katdb - Monday sounds great, thank you for planning this for all of us. Also you can get the Konk Kooler without the rum, still tastes good.

Bossladypu - Don't worry, the last time we were on the Magic it was totally booked and you don't really notice. There are so many places to go, and things to do that the only place that feels crowded is the pools. But I think that would be the case on any cruise no matter if it was sold out or not.

Still sitting here waiting for my docs. Any day now :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Thanks to everyone for the great advice on packing. The more I think about formal night also, I think we may just skip it. I know my husband would be happy (and after all it is his anniversary too, LOL).

I also forgot about it being Mother's Day, that is a good reason to be full. Geez, what a way to spend an anniversary and Mother's Day. Okay, the blues are gone and now I'm getting excited. Everyone on these boards are the best. Plus how did people plan trips before computers????

Thanks again,

A delicious drink you can get on the ship or on CC. Alcohol or not, your choice.
You will have to give one a try.

Hi everyone,
I am getting so excited for this cruise. We are leaving Friday from PA. We are staying at the Fairfield Inn near Jacksonville Airport.

We stayed there last year when we went to WDW.

They offer a free breakfast.

Is anyone else staying there.

Can't wait to see some of you on the ship.

Gail,
I planned on skipping formal night, too, but then we decided not to go all out formal (tuxes and long gowns) My dh is going to wear some nice khakis, button down shirt, tie and sport coat. I'm going to be in a simple black dress. For us, that *is* formal!!! My feeling is if ppl don't like it, they can let it ruin their vacation. I will not show up to formal night in shorts, cut off jeans, or a halter top. I know *that* much! But I will, in no way, be the most formal there! From what I've read, dh will be one of the "lessor dressed" in his sport coat, but his feeling is that if ppl don't like it, they can let it ruin their vacation!

I bought my ds a suit at Sears ($29) and he looks so spiffy in it that it's inspiring me to clean myself up and look decent for formal night. What a cute picture that would be of us! :) Dd will be wearing a pretty dress--but she wears dresses everyday, so formal night isn't a stretch for her!

Hope you'll join us.

If you would go on semi-formal night, what would you wear? The same thing or something different?

Yeah, I finally figured out the quote thingy. Now I'm going to show my real ignorance. I haven't wanted to ask because I think I have it figured out, but everyone seems so nice, hopefully they won't laugh at me. Is DD, DS, DH, for designated daughter, son, husband?

Gail

Maybe the same thing. The rest of my clothes will be mix and match so I won't have to pack 7 complete dinner outfits. I only wear the clothes for dinner, so pants that were worn a couple hours one day can be worn a couple hours another day too!

DD, DS, DH, DW stand for either "dear" daughter, son, husband or wife OR "Disney" daughter, son, husband or wife....or if you've had a REALLY bad day, the "d" can start another word of your choosing! :)

It gets really bad though when you are talking (verbally) to someone in real life and you say something like "I was talking to my dh last night over dinner...." They tend to look at you a bit strange! :)

Well I packed the little black dress and a pair of white sandals. I hope they look good on me. LOL

Seriously though - I plan on taking a blue\black Sports Coat, one nice pair of dark slacks/white shirt for Formal night (and Palo), 3 pairs of light slacks (including Khakis), 2 polo shirts, 2 LONG SLEEVED dress shirts. The rest is either shorts, t shirts, or hawaian shirts. Still trying to figure out if I can get by without a nice pair of dress shoes but alas, I think I will need to bring some. I think my husband may actually go to the formal night when I tell him some of the guys are wearing sport coats or just a dress shirt and tie. My husband is a blue jean sort of guy. His parents weren't farmers, but most of his relatives were on his Dad's side. So my husband worked on farms as a kid, and dressing up just wasn't in his vocabulary. We are plain eaters as well, none of this fancy stuff. His relatives are German Baptist (like Almish), so
he's used to meat, potatoes and home made breads, pies, etc.
Gosh I can't wait until the cruise. I'm going to try a Konk Kooler too (just won't tell any of the relatives, LOL).

tell hubby not to worry, there will be plenty of us out there, as far as a meat and potatoes guy, being an Irishman, I can relate. the menus look good, each rest has a plain steak, baked potato or rice..

My husband is a very plain eater and he was worried about all that "fancy cruiseship food". He doesn't like any sauces or many veggies. He even has his salad without dressing, nothing, just dry lettuce. (YUCK) Even his tuna is almost dry because he doesn't like mayo.

Anyhow my point is, there is something for everyone there. He just always had a steak, some sort of beef, or chicken. Nothing fancy, and once the server knew his likes and dislikes it was easy ordering.

And then there is always Topsiders or Pluto's.

Okay, so last night, this is the one I can remember, I've had many since I received my docs on Monday:

After we boarded and missed the embark photo, the embark lunch, all the swimming and fun, the life boat drill and the sail away party --- we boarded, having forgotten to shower and I forgot to blow dry my hair and brush my DD5's hair who is not wearing any shorts.

No one is there, everyone is going places and look just great. We get to our room, I unpack and realize I only have formal wear, no leisure t-shirts, shorts or swimsuits. Where is my make up?

We are late, hurry up, late, late, late, knock on the door, open it up, it looks like I'm in prison..... all of the sudden there are bars...... "Excuse me mam, you are in the wrong room."

I say, "Wasn't that Mickey and Minnie we saw when we walked pass the sail away party?"

He says - with mop in his hand (I have no idea why) "No Mam, it was Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Lucy...... your room is over here and you won't be needing all that formal wear, just wear shorts and t-shirts."

I think it's because last time I knew we would rebook, this time, it may be our last Disney Cruise unless they change destinations.

 :earseek:  :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

:earseek: Oh yeah, let me tell you about my mind and the way I'm actually RETHINKING and RETHINKING all our excursions.....

Hi everyone, I have a question.
I have never been to a Dis meet before so I was wondering if we make a nametag for our friends and family sailing with us or just us on the boards. I would think it would be just us Disers with our screenname. I know everyone is invited to the meet and just thought of it.

I don't know about anyone else but I wake up in the morning thinking of the cruise and go to bed with it on my mind. That is all I can think of lately. But then again, we will be on the Magic in just over three weeks, is there anything better than that to be daydreaming about?

I am so glad to hear that others besides me are having odd dreams about the cruise. My typical one is that we get to the ship and don't have any of our documents, cruise notes etc. I wake up in a cold sweat hyperventilating. My other dream is that I need to take a shower and I can't seem to actually accomplish it and I keep walking around the ship in a towel-this would be scary LOL.

I know my subconscious is trying to tell me I have too much on my plate right at the moment, but such is life.

After the thread on "formal attire" I thought I might dream about my husband showing up in just a shirt and tie, not pants-but no such luck. At least that would have been humorous.

Actually Mike...I am in fact in and out of this thing all day....
It helps to pass the time.

A lot of bad things have happened this year that have been out of my control....this i figured I deserved to do for myself and my daughter who has also suffered.
I think it will give us a chance to spend some time with eachother as well as not think about the issues we have back home, even if only for a week.
I have thought about taking a trip like this for years....and have brushed it off every time. But I have decided that you only live once....and I dont' want my daughter to grow older and me say I wish I'd have done this or that...
Sometimes we have to stop ourselves and catch our breath to realize the important things in life. The bills will always be there and no one is gonna bury me with my money.....

I am in total agreement with you. I hope you have the relaxation and family time you seek. Hopefully no more bad things will happen to you this year to add to your stress. I am also on and off the boards while at work and my computer is doing other tasks and sometimes when I get home from work I will check in to see what is happening. Don't ever lose your sense of humor (you seem to have a good one) or your priorities for putting family first. Over the last few years, I have made every effort to put my family first before work. - If they don't like it, then they can release me. I can never make up the time with family again and there is no greater pleasure in this world than watching my DS6 grow up. I'm throwing some pixie dust your way for better and more happier times coming your way. - Mike

I can tell you first hand to NEVER EVER put anything off doing with your child. Do it while you can, you never no what will happen in the future. The boy in the picture below was my godson and Kaseys (my daughter) godfather. We were leaving on April 26th for 10 days in Disney and 4 on the cruise last year and he died on April 8th. Luckily I never put off doing things with him though, he traveled a lot with me and with me and his mom. When he was sick at 2 the first thing we did the first break in his chemo was to take him to Disney. You don't know what is going to happen in the future....I have NO problem taking my child out of school for a week to go to Disney or spend time with her, I never want to be able to say "gee I wish I had spent more time with her or done this or that"....You never hear anyone say "I wish I would have worked more" but you will hear " I wish I spent more time with my kids." The 14 year old coming with us on this cruise is my godsons sister, she's been through a lot in her 14 years and his mom is also coming.
Anyway, off my soapbox now and hope you all have a better year to come!

Aprilgail,
Thank you for your post. I cannot imagine how you feel...I've never lost a child or any child close to me. This year we've had 3 deaths within a short time of eachother-2 of which were under the age of 38. Any death is difficult to take but that of an innocent child must be 1000 times worse and its so difficult even to think of. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope that memories can help to heal your pain and sorrow.
It is said that everything happens for SOME reason.....it is these reasons that are most difficult to comprehend....

I wish you the best...can't wait to meet!

Wow, sorry about all the deaths close to you this year.

On another happier topic now that I have dragged everyone down.........

What is everyone doing when they are in Cozumel?? We were thinking of goign to Paradise beach now...we thought about Mr Sanchos but people coming back from Paradise beach are raving about it so maybe we will give that a try.

My DH and I are doing the Jeep Tour. Then we have nothing planned after we get back. My girlfriend went on a Carnival Cruise about 3 weeks ago and they went to Cozumel and she bought some nice gold/silver bracelets, so I thought maybe I could get some shopping done, plus she said we have to go to
Senor Frogs. I want to buy some diamond earrings, but don't know how I would know if it was getting a good deal or not.

Well, I *think* this is what my travel agent planned for me (dh) ;)
My dd learned about the Mayan ruins last year and the *reason* we're taking this cruise is so she can go to Cozumel and see them. So she and dh are doing the Tulum ruins excursion. It'd be too much for my ds (who could care less about the ruins) so he and I will be attempting the dolphin thingy...
Ok, pulled out the DCL thing....Yes, dh and dd are doing Tulum ruins. Myself and ds are doing Dolphin Discovery.
Just tell me when to be there and what to pack. As long as I'm not cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and doing school, I don't care what I do!

Ugh. I must leave here in about 30 minutes. I'm taking my kids to a children's science museum in Dayton for a homeschool overnight adventure. I'm required to stay. So I'll be sleeping on "carpeted concrete" tonight per the brochure I received! It *SOUNDED* like such a good idea when I signed them up, but now I'm not so sure!

I think I'll just pretend I'm sleeping on the floor of my verandah. :)

Catch ya tomorrow --if I can move after sleeping on carpeted concrete.

Jeez, Yikes!

I need to focus ! I thought for a second there I didn't book Cozumel.

We are doing the 12:30 Furyman Sail & Beach Party (I have a DS14 - I'll be lucky he's awake at 12:00pm). Then we are taking a taxi to whatever beach they recommend. Most likely, Mr. Sanchos and then stopping off at Carlos & Charlies for a t-shirt ;)

I just love this Western 7 day cruise because all of our excursions are after 12:00 noon! My DH, DD5, DS11 can have a full half day of activities before DS14 even stirs. We did the dolphin swim last year.

I just can't decide what to do on Key West.......
The sunset Schooner sail or kids on the ship after sightseeing and DH and I having some fun early evening.

What is everyone else doing in Key West?

Still thinking about formal wear...........

Hi all, I am not doing any excursions. I am going to relax, relax, relax. I need it, as well as most of you I am sure. A few travelling with me have booked the dolphin excursion and parasailing though. I considered swimming with the stingrays but I am saving that for the next cruise when I will be with my husband. He will not be with me this time. A little shopping and beach time is all that I am looking forward to at each port.

Ohiominnie - I hope you are moving around okay today. I remember doing those kinds of things when the kids were smaller. My oldest in off to college in the fall so it has been a while for me. The time passes by way too fast, enjoy it.

I LIVED! I'm back from my overnight. I took a sleeping bag and one of those camping air mattresses (about 1/2 inch thick) and that really helped to take the edge off of the hardness. I actually got a fairly decent nights sleep (thank you Benadryl!) and am ready to enjoy the sunshine today. The kids had a great time and it was fun to be there with them. There was a fairly obnoxious girl there and it was great to see how polite and well mannered my kids are. :) Reminded me what super kids I have!

As for Key West.....Dh and I are doing the walking tour. Kids want to stay on the ship. :) I have to see the most southern point of the US and we'd like to get some really good Key Lime pie.

I am SO busy between now and the time we leave (April 29th) that I won't have too much time to daydream. Even though I'm so busy, I've signed up to walk with a friend in Walk America for March of Dimes (she lost a baby when he was 3 days old due to a heart defect) That's 4/25....Then the rest of that week I have haircuts, dentist appointments, swim, gym and art, piano lessons, ballet ..ACK!

Sending back my "little black dress" that I got. Their measurements are off on their website b/c it said I should have fit in this dress (with room to spare) but I can't get it over my hips. Oops. Gotta go to Plan B....

Morning everyone,

My mom and I are doing the Stingray Tour at Grand Cayman (we did this last year and absolutely LOVED it, so we're going again, except we've chosen the one without the tour and turtle farm this time)

Other than that, we plan to shop, shop, shop!

Ohiominnie, I know how you feel. I have my last final in 2 hours, then I pack up my rez room to move home (after my mom and Nana do some house hunting)... then when I get home, I have to find a job at a vet clinic (I'm hoping to apply to vet school next year and I need more experience), and pack, and visit, and shop... oh my these next couple of weeks will go quickly!

Have a great Disney Day everyone

Hi everyone!

DH and I are going to take a taxi to Chankanaab State Park at Cozumel in the a.m. to snorkel and sight-see and then shop, shop, shop in the p.m. with a little of Sally's minigolf.. We may take a carriage ride if the horses look like they are well cared for - I love animals!! Has anyone else been to Chankanaab??

Has anyone tried the Mexican vanilla I hear so much about? I have heard it's not the same taste as our "usual" but still good - anyone tried it??

We are also going to do a lot of walking on our own at Key West. Looking forward to visiting Kino's sandal shop to get some cheap leather sandals for everyone!! Also want to see the cats at Hemingway's house.

Just think, 3 weeks from right now, we'll be getting ready to go to the lovely safety boat drill!! Can hardly wait for that!! LOL!!

I haven't booked any excursions yet... I really need to get to that soon! I have been extremely busy at work the last several months, but our project (a new web site) goes live tomorrow, so hopefully I will have more time then.

We are thinking about doing the daytime schooner excursion in Key West because I think the kids will really enjoy that. Hopefully we will still have time to do some other things in Key West after that. I definitely want to go to Margaritaville. The project I have been working on has been so painful that we have named margaritas as the "official drink" of our project. When things get bad, I bring in a pitcher of non-alcoholic strawberry margaritas to work. I need to find some souvenirs from Margaritaville to decorate my cube!

In Grand Cayman, we would like to do a Stingray excursion. Does anyone know which is the one that is in shallow water (like waist deep)? That is the only one that we could even hope our kids (DS5 and DD5) would enjoy. I'm not sure if we'll convince them to get in the water, but maybe if we hold them, they would go.

I haven't decided what to do in Cozumel yet. There are some baot tours that sound interesting, but I'm not sure about getting off a cruise ship to go on another boat ride. I may need to stay on solid ground for a while!

I can't believe it is getting so close to our trip. I still have so much to do!

DisneyForLife, I like your idea for Coz. the only thing I would add is a few nice cold foo foo drinks or maybe just beers and the good old water. After all the work I am doing at work (traveling three seperate times from now to cruise time including Miami on May 3 - 4- 5 to give presentations to a bunch of doctors, redoing our dining room and getting DD ready for her first holy communion ton May 1st. Yes, a lot of relaxing is in store for me.

Ohiominnie.....that is such sad news. Prayers go out to your friend and family....just terrible news.....and so here I go.....my DW and I will be sailing with you all on the May 8th MAGICal cruise. I used to think differently. I used to sweat out everything....worry about everything from bills, my favorite sports team winning.....just everything in general. After I attended my 30th year high school reunion and found that a number of my fellow classmates were not around anymore since the 20th reunion I kind of sat back and took inventory of my life. I will never be rich, never own a mansion, and maybe will work till the day I pass on....but I will make sure that I enjoy my time on earth. I turned 51 last year on the Magic....and I no longer sweat the small stuff......We joined the vacation club last year, cruised twice on the Magic and had wonderful times. Life is too short to worry about things we cannot control......so as the song goes, "Don't worry...be happy"....so, I will now get off my soap box and I hope I did not bore anyone....but we will be cruising with all you nice people and admittedly I have not read all the posts....so if there has been a Dismeet planned would someone be kind enough to let me know the details.....we are in cabin 5504.....front of the ship atop the Walt Disney theatre....so it will be nice and quiet.....but a long way from the food.....but I could use the exercise......20 short days from now we will be on the most MAGICal ship on the sea......see ya all soon!

Someone asked about the Dismeet....I believe its 3pm at the promenade lounge on the Monday. There is also an informal meet by the pool on Saturday afternoon sometime...before the lifeboat drill...(someone correct me if i'm wrong).

Some of us are wearing green mickey heads around our necks....you can get them in the paint department at home depot. Hope this helps!

Someone also said while they were on Key West they were going to find a piece of good key lime pie. bosslady, thanks for the key lime pie info! we'll have to check that out.

as for my 7 yr old in the kids club. He is nearly 7 1/2. I've read on some other threads that he *may* be able to go up to the lab, and if that's the case, I think he'll do it because he likes the activites in the lab so much better, and his sister will bein the lab, too. If not, he'll be at the Oceaneer's Club.

yup, informal DIS meet at the Mickey pool between embarkation and life boat drill. Other than running to check if my room is ready and hauling luggage in, or running to check in the kids, I should be there.

So you know what *I* look like, I snuck over to the WISH board and snagged my before and during pictures (the only pictures of me posted in cyberspace) :) Guess if you can find me, we can all find each other! :)

I went out to feel the sun for the first time in at least two weeks it seems. Here in Ma the weather has been horrible, we are having a beautiful day today in the 80's and right back to the 60's tomorrow.

Anyhow, I came back and saw all these posts, this is great, keep it up. It will help the days go by quicker.

We will be at the pool before the life boat drill also with my friends DD6. Her name in Jenna and I know she would love to meet another little girl before she goes into the clubs. I am making the Mickey head name tags for all of us. But just in case you don't notice that, I will be the one with the smile from ear to ear. LOL

Now watch yourself with this post. It will really help determine how many baseball fans we have out there. BTW - I am officially a Cubs fan but here goes? Did anyboby watch the Boston Red Sox/ Yankees game yesterday? - Mike

I did not watch it but I sure heard it!!!!!
I am the only female in my house so the TV always has some sort of sports on. I am not a baseball fan but I can tell you there is a lot of yelling here when the Sox are playing the Yankees.

I LOVE my Patriots though, I live about ten minutes from the stadium but have never been to a game. Way too much traffic for me. I would rather sit in my house and enjoy it. My boys go to games, they were at the last two snowbowls we had this past season. No thanks. We do see some players around quite a bit.

DISNEYFORLIFE: I am a huge pats and sox fan as well! I work about 20 mins from the stadium and tried to get tickets to a ton of games and no luck. Don't even know anyone who is willing to give up their season tickets as they also have a waiting list...waah I would love to go....I certainly haven't met any of them! I think I would just stand and drool!!
I have been to a sox game but not since I was a little girl...Softball is my favorite sport to play and I coach my daughters team, I would love to bring my daughter to a game....maybe this year we will at least get to do that!!
I could not help myself but to get out of the house yesterday and I did not see the game. I have respect for Yankee fans...or maybe it is more like sympathy...I dunno. LOL I am a diehard!

Darn, I just returned the little black dress I had ordered. Seems I'm bigger on the bottom than on the top. Hmmm. Even though their measurements on their site assured me it would fit, apparently they are wrong. I'm thinking being able to breathe and sit would be helpful during dinner. ;)

Hi Mike, yes you can assume that..
My family are diehard fans and although I could care if I ever see a baseball game, being from Boston originally I have to root for them.

Meesh, you must work very close to where I live. It is very hard to get tickets but we know quite a few people who are season ticket holders so that is how my kids get to go to so many games. And some of their friends work at the stadium as well.

Just wanted to say a quick hi. I haven't had much chance to post (five days, four exams, moving out of residence and into a hotel and nwo we're house hunting)

I know a while back someone asked about the dismeet. Yes, there is an informal one before the boat drill, and I guess you could say a more formal one on the Monday at 3pm at the promenade lounge.

Anyways, lots of houses to see tomorrow so I had better get some sleep!

Can't wait for the cruise!!!!!

YOU LOOK AWESOME! I had to look twice at your photos a few pages back, I thought that was you and your sister - WAY TO GO!

I also have a DD that will be just a couple of weeks short of turning 6 - so she would love to meet a couple of other girls her age that will be at the club! I think I saw a couple of people post that they had girls that age too - so hard to keep track of who's who and what's what at this stage! Too many things going on!!

We will be at the Mickey Pool after lunch - so look for us. I got my paint chips and lanyard, and I am ready to go.

We will be at the Doubletree for a couple of days prior - anybody staying there before the cruise?

One last thing:
As excited as I am for "19 DAYS UNTIL WE SET SAIL!!" - I am just wondering - if I don't eat anything for the last 19 days - can I lose 20 lbs???:p

Since we are going on a Friday afternoon everyone was working that we know and no one could drop us off and since we dont get back in until 10pm Sunday night I didn't want to have to make anyone pick us up that late!

Good morning everyone. Glad to see people are posting multiple times just to keep our post at the top. LOL

KC - Told my son this morning and he said it would be fun to meet Ryan. He said "I like meeting new friends". Then he said "What is Jack like?" LOL so I had to tell him again "Ryan". He's got it now. Also I found the pergect black dress in a size 18. Would you be interested?

Weather here is Sunny and low 70's for a high. SHould be in the low 80's by Friday. Trying to work on my tan before the cruise - A Calfornia thing I guess.

My prediction - Cubs/Red Sox in the World series. I wouldn't even care who wins, just let the Cubs make it there. - Mike

I'm sure he wont care once they start playing on the jungle gym and doing computers..

PLease tell me I'm correct, I believe your son was there last year, that is some of the stuff they can do??

There really is a ton of things for them to do. When Steven was there last year his favorite experience was dressing up like a pirate, making treasure maps and then Captain Hook himself checked out every kids pirate map. He is very computer literate (since 3) and likes playing on the computers as well. Another thing he liked was the movies they showed after 8 or 9 at night (He also just wore his pj's one night). Ryan will have a blast I suspect (Most of the 5 to 8 age group does well). Steven swears he wants to stay there the whole time this time but I have informed him he has to eat with us (except maybe one night) and go on a few excursions but other than that, he can either be in the Kids club or up at the pools with us. Last year I thought he would never go for it. They gave us a pager and we expected it to go off about 5 minutes after we left. After awhile (about an hour), I was sure that the pager was not functional and decided to go to the Kids club just to check. Well he was having a wonderful time and did not even see me check on him. I do need to remember what I did with my time before he was born as I was a little confused as to what to do with this newly found "free" time. Won't have any problems this time though. Let me know if you have any other questions. - Mike

They also have some play equpment. A slide and some climbing equipment if I remember correctly.

Mike,

thanks for the info, Ryan loves to do computers too, he plays backyard basketball every night.. and loves games and other fun stuff. I hear you on what to do without him, I know I can't remember that far back..

Maybe if he stays with them for dinner one night, my wife and I can do a dinner alone.. NAH she won't go for that..

18 days and counting..:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Oh, yeah, the old "you must eat dinner with us" rule. We had that. Worked for one night. Our first cruise my dd ate with us the first night. (clubs weren't even open until 1/2 way though dinner) She actually wolfed down her dinner (which she asked to have come out with the appetizers) and then skipped dessert so she could get to the clubs. The second night we ate at Tritons and she rationalized with us that it was too fancy for her tastes and could she please eat with her club that night. Ok, we went for it! 3rd night, Animator's Palate, she wasn't missing that. 4th night, a repeat of the 1st night so she rationalized with us that it was just a repeat and why should she stay. Hard to argue. Ds ate with us every night, but by cruise 3 he was starting to eat now and again with the club. I think they also like that we can't monitor what they eat. Dd is very proud to say "All I ate for dinner was pickles and jello one night." She knew she couldn't get away with that in a dining room!

I've got a navigator from our most recent cruise. Now, this is for a Wonder 4 day, but it will give you an idea of how many things the 5-7 yr olds do:

Day 1
6:30-8:30 stormin' the club--arts and crafts new friends and fun.
8:30-9:15 welcome aboard party
9:30-midnight movie time and fun in the captain's closet (that's where the dress up, games and computers are)

Day 2
9-10 morning fun for everyone, slide games and lots of fun
10:15-11:15 animation antics in animator's palate-learn to draw mickey mouse
11:15-12 lunch at animator's palate
12:15-1:00 music, fun and games in studio sea
1:15-2:15 invading the oceaneer lab (the 5-7's go to the lab)
2:30-3:30 all about animals-crafts, coloring sheets, masks, lots of fun animal things
3:30-4:15 prepare for pirate training
4:15-5:15 so you want to be a pirate? our local pirate teaches landlubbers how to fit into the pirate gang. captain hook may even stop by to inspect his new pirate crew
5:15-5:30 get ready for dinner
5:45-6:30 dinner at beach blanket buffet (will be called topsiders on the magic)
6:45-7:15 fun and games in the lab (taking over the older kid's space again)
7:15-8:15 gases in action--this is a real gas for any child interested in experiments. it's a real blast (also in the lab)
8:15-9:15 let's explore the lab--microscopes, K-NEX, games, computers and more
9:30-1:00 am movie time in the club.

Day 3
9-10:15-activity time in the club
10:15-11:15 escape from hook. captain hook is lurking about, trying to steal our treasure. it's our job to scare him away and keep him from finding it.
11:30-12 lunch in animator's palate
12:15-1:15 professor goo's magical experiments (lab) young scientists join our professor and explore a squishy green substance that looks like Flubber.
1:15-2:15 fun in the lab
2:15-3:15 Nemo's challenges of the sea (lab) come join in the fun and work in teams to discover more about the ocean
3:45-4:45 under the sea (club) face painting, coloring sheets and crafts, lots of fun with an under the sea theme
4:45-5:45 club time
6-6:30 dinner at beach blanket buffet
6:45-7:30 games, drawing, computers, and of course FUN in the lab
7:30-8:15 picture this (lab) make a special picture frame to display your magical memory.
8:30-9:15 activity time in the club
then nightly movie time until 1:00 am

day 4 (this was our CC day)
ON THE ISLAND:
9-10:30 fun, sun and sand castles
10:45-11:30 holiday crafts (it was just before Christmas)
11:30-12 lunch on the island
12:15-1 dig at Monstro Point--dig for whale bones
1:15-2:30 winter wonderland water olympics --get set to get wet!
2:30-3 sand castle building and cool down time
3-3:45 programming is closed while the counsellors get everything back to the ship
3:45-4:25 rehearsal for the discover the magic show
4:45-5:00 the kids are featured on stage in the walt disney theater for the discover the magic show.
5:15-6 getting ready for dinner
6:15-7 dinner at beach blanket buffet
7:15-8:15 Professor Goo's Magical Experiments--Flubber again!
8:40-9:15 Sebastian's junkaroo end-of-cruise party in studio sea
then nightly movie time until midnight.

HTH!

KC - Correction - We have the LAPLAPL rotation. Got home and decided to check as I was printing off the menus for each night.

aprilgail2 - I was allowed to do this when I made my ressies with the REAS package. I had noticed some of the posters in this forum being allowed to request specific dining rotations, so when I called, I also was allowed to. I was still about 30 days out when I did this, but do not know if that makes a difference. I also was able to request a specific table size. Won't know if I have it or not till I get there because it's not on my docs either. But I do have faith in the person I spoke with. - Mike

It sort of makes sense to me because you need to know which rotation you have to make the proper spa and massage reservations. Some events such as the Character Breakfast are based upon what rotation you are on (Are there any other things based on rotation?). Not knowing which rotation you are on could cause you scheduling conflicts, which would bring the wrath upon me by my DW and DS. LOL. - Mike

msh8675 - I hope to get the green Mickeys this weekend. Most people would never even notice the amount of pink in these colorful shirts. - Mike

KC - Born and raised (until 8 anyway) on the South side of Chicago and then moved to the North side until I was 11. I know - you would think I would root more for the White Sox but the Cubbies are my favorite (I also like the Agels). They actually have a good chance of making the playoffs if Mark Prior comes back healthy. Oh - moved to Southern California (my wife is a native born) after we got out of the Army in 1984. - Mike

I have 9 more work days after today, as we are leaving real early on May 5 to spend a few days at Ron Jon's Resort. I can hardly wait. But my husband is working me to death at home getting yard work done and Spring cleaning done before we leave. I'm going to be so tired by the time we leave, all I'll do is sleep. I've worked harder at home this past month then at work.

msh8675, Are you going to spend some time at WDW first?
We have been going to WDW after Thanksgiving since 1995 and going again in May for the Flower and Garden Show for about 6 years now, but my husband thinks we're missing it this year. As a surprise for our 35th, I am buying 2-5 day park hoppers and we can go to WDW for a couple days this trip and save the rest for Dec.

Hi bossladypu, we will be leaving for Disney World the day after Thanksgiving. Who knows, now that we are going to meet, we may bump into each other at the World also.
I may also be sneaking in another trip there in September but not sure about that one right now.

It will give us something to look forward to when (god forbid) the cruise is over.

yes, we are leaving on the 5th, and are probably going to spend a day in disney (have a park hopper from 2 years ago) not sure which park....then another day in the universals. It is just my DD6 and myself but I have friends in Orlando.
We are also flying home on the 15th...not staying any extra days as DD will be exhausted by then and we will need a day or so to recoop before school/work!! UGHHH!!
See you real soon!

That would be great. Do you know where you are staying yet?
We haven't planned that far yet, but we may have a couple of our grand-daughters with us.

Yes, this time we will be driving down in the RV so we are staying at FW. I booked the site last Christmas because they go fast that time of year. It will just be my husband and myself.

DisneyForLife - How many stops do you make and what type of RV do you have? I'm interested as we have a pop-up and go camping quite often. We use to tent all of the time until we got older and found the ground not as "comfortable" any more (even with mattress pads, blow-up mattresees, etc). I understand the RV park at WDW is pretty nice. - Mike

The wallpaper on this computer is a view of the chairs lined up on deck 10. The other desktop computer has a DCL logo wallpaper. The laptop wallpaper is currently another DCL image. You'd think we aren't visiting WDW prior to this cruise!!!

One week from today, at this time, we probably will be out of Ohio and somewhere in KY!

KC - The Lime green Mickeys are another way to recognize a fellow Dis-er (I almost got the pink ones). They are located in the paint department of Home Depot. Does sound like a good drink, doesn't it. - Mike
