We went a few years ago, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 11. MNSSHP was busy.. the next day was busy.. but then it was kind of fine. However.. Presidents Week started.. and WHAM. We didn't know that there WAS such a thing as President's Week. We found out in a hurry.
The weather was great. Warm mostly.. but bring a jacket. Nights are also cold. We had a few light showers.. but nothing much.

Hey, TMQ, you'll be there on my birthday 11/9... Have fun! I am also interested in this thread as we are going for Thanksgiving. I am hoping it will be warm enough to swim in the afternoons.

Hello, we went the week of November 7th in 2000. We loved it and it is now my favorite time to go. The weather was great. Warm enough to swim and wear shorts but bring a light jacket for late nights. The crowds were not to bad and the International Food and Wine Festival was going on in Epcot which we really enjoyed. I will say the best time I have ever been as far as crowds was last December 13th and 14th. We did all and I do mean all of Fantasyland in 1 hour and 45 min. There was no wait at all! Always do Fantasyland First. The crowds are always larger in the afternooon.:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I thought Presidents week is in February? We are going to just miss MNSSHP..... I am so glad to hear the weather is warm enough to swim we are going to try a water park this year... This will be our 4th year straight and have never done a water park.
Colleen Costello:
We will be celebrating my daughters 9th birthday on the 5th. Trying to figure out what we should do to make it EXTRA special... We will definately be getting a birthday button from city hall but other than that we are undecided.... Thought about Chef Mickey. Any other suggestions?
eelderm1:
Did you notice that EPCOT was the busier of the 4 parks? We have been to Disney the last 3 Decembers and I have to agree with you it is a great time to go.... I think the longest I have EVER waited in line is 20min.
My daughter is on a synchronized ice skating team and they are starting competitions early this year so I guess I will wave to bite the bullet and go in November...... Oh the sacrifices I make:p
Whomever has the answere:
Some other special birthday ideas......

About Birthdays. If you make priority seating at the Crystal Palace in MK and let them know about the birthday they will bring out cupcakes and sing Happy Birthday to the child , the characters join in. It is special!:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

As you can see below, we've been 4 Novembers running. From as early as 11/5-9 to as late as 11/9-16. Here what we found:
That first week of November has become known as "Jersey Week". The New Jersey public schools shut down for three days of teacher conventions. So lots of Jersey-ites (?) head down. Some for entire week. Some from Wednesday on through the weekend.
The last couple of years, Veterans Day (That's the holiday) was on that 2nd monday (the 11th last year) so that extended the Jersey and weekend crowds somewhat. This year Vets day is on Tuesday so it won't be a long weekend for many (I never get that off)
You also have "Supersoaps Weekend" going on Sat and Sunday, 11/8 and 9. That is a Disney Studios. We just avoided MGM then but some folks said that the crowds aren't in line for rides they just want to see the soap stars.
Don't let all that scare you however. It's still a great time and low attendance time to go. We used fastpass only for the last year and even without, never waited more than 20 minutes for the big rides.
The Christmas decorations start being put out around 11/12 or 13 so afraid you'll miss that.
The weather overall is great. Last year was really hot for the first couple of days. It can still get to the 90s in Florida then. But is really cooled down and we were very comfortable. You will need a jacket and slacks at night. The only thing bad is that you do practically have to pack for two seasons! And for that time of year, I also pack light gloves. I think we used them one evening but they don't take up space and just a good thing to have.
Course the Food and Wine Tasting is going on but that's just at EPCOT. It gets busy there in the evenings when the other parks have closed.
Daughter has always gotten to swim although we've not been to the water park. Believe only Blizzard Beach has been open at that time of year.
Have a great time! We gave up November to grab the Fairytale package, Sept 1. So we're in uncharted territory now but these boards are great for info!

thought Presidents week is in February?
:D Ok. (We've run into the same problem in February... so it could have been that trip that had President's Week). What happens in November? I know that the same thing occured. All of a sudden.. bam.. crowds.

I want to hear about December......... We are thinking about going to check out the decorations.
We have always gone in November until last year - we went in May and Oct. November is usually the best weather month. Moderate weather with cool mornings and evenings. One year was really cool and another really rainy; but, that is pretty good out of 17 years.
May was really hot and had lots of bugs..... October was nice and warmer than we were used to in November. We never needed long pants or a jacket - even at MNSSHP. BUT it is always nice when you are at WDW.........

We went last December 13th and 14th. It was really cold at night , but we loooooved it!! The crowds were not an issue at all. Always do Fantasylad at MK first. We managed to do Fantasyland in under an hour and 30 min. It was great and if you go during the holidays the mass choir at Epcot is a must see!!

We were there for "NJ Week" last year and didn't realize it (we're from Ohio)....
The only crowds we really ran into was in the PM at MK.....rides like Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan suddenly had 40 - 50 minute waits.....however, since it wasn't too hot, it really didn't bother us.....I think my DD (2 at the time) waited much more patiently than I did.....;)
We are going back again during "NJ Week" this November because it works out so perfectly in our year.....it might be a little more crowded but certainly nowhere near being there in the summer......

Also going on the same time as "Jersey Week" is the New Jersey State PBA convention which will mean lots of police officers and their families from Nov 5 - Nov 12th... it may be crowded but at least we'll be well protected... :p

I am soooooo happy to hear all the positive input on the weather and crowds in November...... I have been so spoiled for the last 3 years with the weather and crowds in December. I was hoping that I wouldn't regret the change.....
Figgy4me: December is an AWESOME time of year to go!!!!!!! In the last 3 years that we have gone the longest wait time has been 20 minutes and that was for RNR and TOT. The decorations and all the happening of the holidays will have you coming back for another December vacation. Be sure to get tickets for MVMCP.

We are ALL wishing our lives away. Sometimes -- in the winters mostly -- I feel like all I do is look at the Boards and plan my Florida trips or "pilgrimages" as I am starting to call them. I envy people who have figured out a way to move to Orlando or work for Disney. Maybe that would ruin it? Not sure. I do hope to retire in Florida someday, when money and local schools matter less.
So if anyone here thinks they are doing too much "wishing" or daydreaming or whatever, I am with you!

Exactly when is this NJ Week??? We are planning a trip for Nov. 2nd through the 8th. Will we be in for larger crowds than planned?? We are going at this time of year specifically because it was said to be slow at that time?? Also, has anyone gotten a good airfare for that time yet? Been checking and the best I've seen is about $200 per person.......ROC to MCO.....but I've been told to wait and there'll be better rates????

Colleen Costello,
My friends and family think I have totally lost my mind. I am always saying that as soon as my DD8 graduates from high school she will go to Florida State University and I will move there and work for Disney... I could care less if it is just shooing birds away from the outdoor tables at Casey on Main street, I will someday become an employee of the most magical place on earth!!!!:p :p :p :p :p :p I have got it BAD
NJ teachers convention is the first Thursday and Friday of November. Most NJ schools are only closed those two days.
Our school district doesn't have Veterans day off either. We do go down that week. We just pull the kids out for a couple of days. The weather is wonderful and the crowds are low.
Have fun and enjoy!!

Thanks for the response. I am ready to try December and the MVMCP. Thinking about the 1st or 2nd week - any suggestions? Understand Christmas week is way too busy...
I have sent in a quote for Sept 5-13 because of the Fairy Tale Package.... So don't know if I will be able to do both this year or not. I know I am ready to go now..... Sept. may prove to be way too hot, but.........

Hey Tonysgal,
Did you check Air Tran? I was checking fares for Nov. and
got a rate of $69 each way, however that was flying midweek.
We just went late April and had a non-stop flight on Air Tran.
It was great only 2 1/2 hrs!!! I would'nt have done it any other
way with my 3 yr old ds. We have never gone in Nov. but I'm
hoping crowds are low too!

We went last year for "Jersey Week." Maybe because we usually go the week before or after Thanksgiving, we're not used to crowds. I found the crowds horrible. We left the Magic Kingdom after only 3 hours due to the lines. The buses were crowded and the resorts were crowded. I'll never go the first week in November again. I had heard about the schools being closed in NJ but figured that certainly would not have an impact on WDW. Wrong!!

06-05-2003, 03:54 PM
I think it's fair to say that depending on expectations it will either be very crowded or pleasantly sparse....
Jersey week is definitely more crowded than other dead weeks in November or December and it is definitely less crowded than any week in the summer.
We went last year during Jersey week and didn't mind it at all. However, it was definitely more crowded than when we went the week after Thanksgiving.

I hate to be dense, but what days are Jersey schools actually closed THIS year? And what days are Jersey-ites likely to descend? ha -- I am going Nov 8th thru 15th -- we went 2 years ago in the 2nd week, and it was light and tremendous weather (chamber of commerce weather, we called it - 70 degrees and a light breeze)....

Hi HoneyPooh,
This will be my first time in the fall too, so I've been curious about crowds. The last time I went was Easter of last year and I'll never do that again!! I prefer early February, but I couldn't do it this year:)

Born and raised in Jersey but live in Mass. now.
I forgot about those Teacher Convention days!
Anyway, I'm going November 4-13 and then 3 day DCL. I got in on the extended Fairytale Package.
Everything I read said with the exception of Thanksgiving week, the crowds are low. I was surprised to read in that earlier post that it was crowded last year.
Oh well! At least I'll be among my own kind. Maybe I'll even get my accent back again. My kids have a wicked New England accent which is so weird for me.
Also I read probably on this website but I can't remember, that one of the water park is closed in November for repairs. And that it is usually Typhoon Lagoon but this year it will be Blizzard Beach.
Bummer!
There's hardly any E-ride nights in November either. That's a double bummer, but still can't wait to go!

We are so glad to hear that it is not really that crowded in November. We are going Nov. 8th thru the 15th also. We went in Oct in 2000 and loved it then. So, I was really hoping it wouldn't be real crowded this time. Thanks for putting up the schdule for Christmas decorating at the resorts. We are trying to decide which one to stay at for Christmas. We went the week before Thanksgiving last year. It was very
cold and windy a couple of days and the other days were comfortable. The crowds were low and we could walk on to the rides - no wait time. The crowds picked up at the end of our trip
(the weekend before Thanksgiving). The food court got really busy and there was some wait time on the rides.
Y'all have me scared with all this "jersey week" talk. As you can tell from my use of "y'all" I am not from anywhere near Jersey. ;) We are going Nov. 6 to Nov. 9. I already knew about the super soap thing but we just planned on doing mgm on Thursday and that way we would avoid that. But now I am scared we will be over-run with people! With our accents we'll stand out like sore thumbs.
However, I have only been to Disney once before and that was Halloween week of 2001. It was desolate. The only thing we waited on was Test Track and that was because it kept breaking down. We literally walked onto every ride without stopping. Of course, it probably helped matters that it was less than 2 months after a major terrorist attack on the nation. I am sure that caused many people to cancel their flights and plans. You didn't even need PS for the restaurants. We had them, but we were done early with all the rides and they sat us right away every time....despite being over an hour early for our PS.
However the weather was AWESOME then. Absolutely perfect. I will never go in the summer b/c I wouldn't want it to spoil the picture-perfect memories I have of the pefect weather and light crowds of late October/early November.
Oh, and PERSHING...we will be at CP on the 7th also! We are doing lunch though to save some $$.
