EM.TV sells Jim Henson to the Henson family
Reuters, 05.07.03, 7:27 AM

FRANKFURT, May 7 (Reuters) - Ailing German media group EM.TV & Merchandising AG <ETVG.DE> said on Wednesday it agreed to sell Jim Henson Company, the maker of the Muppets, to the children of its founder Jim Henson.

Putting an end to a protracted auction that has been going on for years, EM.TV said it would sell the group for $89 million. It bought Henson in 2000 for $680 million at the peak of the stockmarket bubble.

The auction had attracted interest from several media firms, including giant Walt Disney Corp. (nyse: DIS - news - people), media investor Haim Saban and a group around investor Dean Valentine.

Maybe a blessing in disguise. Does Disney really need another company and their debt?

I am glad. I am a big muppets fan and although I am a big D fan too, I was glad to see the the family bought them back. Hopefully they will find a way to bring all of JH creatures back to life in a big way.
