I will be going to a trade show in Dallas in a little over a week. I was wondering if anyone is up for a DIS meet. I won't have a car, so I will be somewhat constrained by the location of the meet. Anyone interested in having a meet for dinner on May 11 (or maybe the 12th or 13th)? :sunny:

Any excuse for a meet works for us :)
Where are you going to be staying? We can plan something close by or just pick you up.
Anyplace you'd like to go that you know of?

I'll be staying at the Adams Mark Hotel in downtown Dallas. I am not sure how far Grapevine is from there, but I thought a Rainforest Cafe meet might be neat (if it's not too far from downtown Dallas). I'd love to meet you, janette!

Grapevine Mills isn't close to Downtown but it's a more central than downtown would be. Sunday (May 11) would work because traffic wouldn't be bad to pick you up and get you to the meet would be easier that way.
The only thing about Rainforest is that they don't allow reservations so a large group can sometimes be a problem there. This is just hearsay on my part but I thought a few people had some bad experiences there.
I like Rainforest and haven't been for awhile so sounds fine to me. We'll see if someone else has some ideas. :)

Great, Janette. Sunday probably works best with my trade show schedule, so since it will work with traffic to, let's shoot for that day. I have a Rainforest Safari Club membership, and I've *heard* (but never tried it to see for sure) that it will get us the next available table for our party size. If it's not good in Dallas we can pick somewhere else of course. Anyone else want to join us? :)

I'd love to join you guys at Rainforest Cafe!! (And how very considerate of you to choose that location- it's less than 10 minutes from my house!)
The wait shouldn't be a problem for us- I should be able to get us in if the Safari Club card doesn't. ;)
I think that's Mother's Day- will that affect anybody's availability?

Wish we were a little closer I would love to meet up with y'all. Sounds like fun, but we are a little to far away. Hope y'all have great time!!

Kathy - could you check with your RainForest connections and see how crowded it might be on Sunday evening - on Mother's day??
Didn't check the calendar for that but hopefully the crowds will be okay by the evening.

Sure! What time of day are we thinking about?
(I would be surprised if Mother's Day impacts their crowds very much... but you never know!)

I'm thinking after 5pm? We could do it earlier if that works better for everyone.
When I worked in restaurants mother's day was the absolute busiest day of the year. It seems like lunch was the worst time but I can't remember.

Great!!
Will anybody else join Elisabeth, Janette and me at the Rainforest Cafe at Grapevine Mills for dinner on Sunday 5/11/03?
I just love a good party!:D

Wish we could drive down and go with you. It's the day of Amy's spring dance recital and Allen is still suffering in his walking cast. Guess we'll have to try for the next one.

I will be setting up our booth at the Dallas Convention Center until about 4:30 pm. I'm not sure how long it will take me to get to the RFC by taxi, but I'm not sure I can make it at 5 pm, but I probably could by 6.

Sounds like about 6:30pm would work. That will give us a little buffer. :)

Don't want to spoil your fun but you might want to check on how much your taxi fare will be. It's about a 30 mile run one way from Dallas to Grapevine.
janette
05-04-2003, 09:23 PM
Thanks Kirby, I hadn't noticed the taxi reference.
Elisabeth, I'll come downtown and pick you up. It's not that far and a taxi would cost way too much

I've arranged a meet at RFC once a while back ago and they did take reservations. We even did them online. You might want to check their webpage to see if they still do that.
I wish I could make but it IS mother's day and we already have plans for that day. Sorry :(

Janette--thanks SO MUCH! I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I have only taken a cab once before (it was in Italy, so it was quite an experience anyhow), and I am not really sure how the logistics of getting one work. :o Now that I hear how much it would cost, a ride would be WONDERFUL! I'm really excited. This is my first business trip (and my first trip anywhere alone), so I think a DIS meet will really help put me at ease. :)

While Mandy and I would love to attend another Dallas meet (we haven't seen our Dallas DIS friends in quite a while), I'm afraid that there is no way to cancel our Mother's Day plans. The resulting sulk from my mother would be industrial strength and long lasting.
I wish we could be there. Hope y'all have a great time!

I wish you could be there too, Kath. The first thing I thought of when I thought about having a Dallas DIS meet was, "Hey, I might get to see nativetxn again," but then I remembered you live in Michigan now. :(

Howdy, This is my first post, though I've been lurking for months. A dis meet close to home was the final boost to register. Is there still space available for a newbie? We love Rainforest Cafe. What a great way to spend Mother's Day. (I hope I did this right).:D

HeartofTexas- Welcome to the DISboards!!!!
I'm so glad you've decided to join us at the Rainforest Cafe- OF COURSE there's room for you!!!
Janette's got a list of who will be there on another thread HERE (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=367267) . (Confusing, I know. We started one on the Community Board and one on the DISmeets board, then they were both put on the same board... but it's okay, we can keep track!)
How many will be in your party? We'll be meeting at 6:30. Just look for somebody with a lime green ribbon!

Heart of texas and janette-
How old are everyone's kiddos who will be coming?
I might be able to get DS (9) to come if he knows it won't just be boring grownup talk!

My DS is 11, almost 12, (& loves Yu-gi-oh), and my DD is 8. I'll be making some lime-green nametags today. This is like bringing a piece of the magic to Texas! Can we pretend that AK is just outside the door!:teeth:

Oh, good!! DS will be 10 in June, also a Yu-Gi-Oh kinda kid. They'll have a blast!
