Our very first cruise, myself, wife, 2 daughters (7 & 13) on the Magic 2/28/04 Western cruise. Any others out there?

04-29-2003, 12:59 PM
Yes, we are on the same cruise.

DH, me and my two DD's 15 and 13. Your oldest will be in common ground with my two DD'S.

It is our second cruise.

05-05-2003, 04:33 PM
Jeez...there's gotta be more than this on the 2/28/2004 cruise! How we going to have a huge DIS party with only 2 families???

05-05-2003, 09:28 PM
We just booked last week. All total there will be 9 of us...7 adults, and 2 girls ages 5 & 6.
Guess I have to change my countdown clock!

05-06-2003, 11:59 AM
Hi Jbix OO,

I received your daughter's e-mail. Tell her that tonight or tomorrow I will send her my daughter's e-mail. She will be able to ask her all the questions she wants and they can know each other before the cruise.

I am happy to see that your are nine on the Magic. We will have a big party and all the crew for us :o)))

06-27-2003, 05:54 PM
Only 8 more months and we'll be on our way!

07-28-2003, 05:18 PM
...ok, I promise to change my countdown clock for our 2/28/04 cruise by next month!

08-28-2003, 01:02 PM
As promised the new countdown timer has been added.

Anyone else on this cruise?

09-03-2003, 01:43 PM
Hi from up north!! We'll see you on the magic--myself, mom, and 10yo daughter. We can barely stand the wait!! :bounce:

09-03-2003, 07:26 PM
2/28/04 will be cruise #5 for me but 1st on DCL. Soooo excited! We'll be escaping snow country by then.

09-03-2003, 08:24 PM
Plattsburgh families- Welcome to the DIS!

Won't it be great! While the folks in the Northeast are covered with snow, we'll be cruising the Caribbean.

09-03-2003, 08:52 PM
we are going to attempt to escape the snow by heading down 1 day early! You know how the airlines can be a problem!!

09-03-2003, 09:25 PM
Airlines a problem? ...especially in bad weather? Honestly, I think our local airport (IPT-Williamsport) closes if there's a hint of a flake of snow in the air.

We like to go down a day early, too. The past two years we stayed at the Radisson. This year we're staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Since there will be four of us in our immediate group, we're renting a van at MCO (Avis). Heaven knows we don't travel light - we'll need that much room for our suitcases!

09-03-2003, 11:01 PM
We're staying @ the airport Hyatt(pricey but convenient) and taking the DCL bus to the port Sat am. I know that there are less expensive and faster ways to get to the port but, with this being our 1st Disney cruise, we wanted to experience everything Disney!!

09-03-2003, 11:01 PM

We are planning to take this cruise, too, and will be booking tomorrow. Has anyone out there cruised the Magic, and if so, had either a deluxe oceanview or a family-sized room with a verandah? If you have had either, would you opt for it again -- why or why not?

Also, does anyone know whether there are any AP holder codes for discounts on the cruise?

Looking forward to meeting you!

Thanks everyone!:bounce:

09-04-2003, 08:06 AM
Hi all new DCL cruisers! In addition to this site, you might want to check out the following sites for great tips: www.***************** and www.dcltribute.com . They are both a wealth of information.

Regarding AP discounts you might check out www.mousesavers.com (DCL cruise section) for discounts. I believe there is an AP Passholder cruise scheduled for January, but I don't know the details.

09-09-2003, 02:01 PM
I'm very suprised at the lack of response to this thread!! I thought that February was a very popular time to cruise. I know that school is in session--but it's worth missing a few days for a Disney cruise!!

09-27-2003, 08:19 PM
Only 5 more months and we'll be on our way!

09-27-2003, 08:55 PM
Count on us too!! Me, hubby and 11 year old daughter.

We are also traveling with five other families. Children aging from 3 - 11. This is our third Disney Cruise!!!!! I am counting down the days.

09-28-2003, 02:04 PM
Count us in too!! Myself, husband and daughter (8 at time of cruise). This is our 3rd Disney cruise, but first time doing the Western route. We can't wait. We need to organize a mini DIS meet on board.

10-22-2003, 03:43 PM
TotallyTigger, Macker and my family will be meeting onboard...anyone else want to join the mini-Disboard meet & greet???

I also will have 2 daughters onboard, ages 8 & 14. :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

10-22-2003, 03:51 PM
Count us in for the onboard DIS meet. Just let me know where and when. Can't wait!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

10-22-2003, 08:54 PM
Let us know when & where! It's never to early to plan a DIS Meet.

10-22-2003, 09:02 PM
Let me know when and where. I will join you.

10-22-2003, 11:25 PM
My DH and I are going too:hyper: this is our
third cruise - second western - we can't wait::yes::
count us in for a dis meet:goodvibes

10-24-2003, 03:12 PM
Seeing how this is our first cruise - EVER - how about a veteran of the Magic help pick a spot and time????

Thanks...and see everyone there!

10-27-2003, 08:07 PM
Only 4 more months and we'll be on our way!!!!

re: DIS meet
I've been to two...first on deck 10 at sailaway party, the second in the Promonade Lounge on the first sea day.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

10-29-2003, 06:21 AM
I am thinking the Sail away party will be too hectic - especially since many of us will be 1st. time Disney cruisers. Then again 1st Day at sea will find the children immersed in Oceaneers Club. Tough call ------ HELP. Can't wait, really looking forward to meeting everyone.

10-31-2003, 02:43 PM
Don't know how I missed this thread, that's what I get for not checking the boards every day. My DH DS (9) and DD (6) will be on this cruise and would be happy to meet other DISers on board. Looking forward to details. I'm also a first timer, so not able to help out with the best time/place for the meet.

I'm so excited :hyper:

10-31-2003, 03:54 PM
Our group just got bigger!! Now my DD 23 and DS 20 have decided to join us--they finally realized how much fun they would be missing by staying home!! There are now 9 of us--including my brother's family--traveling together.:hyper: :bounce:

I can't believe how fast the time is going by.:wave2:

11-11-2003, 10:13 PM
My DH, myself and 7 yr old DD will be sailing on the Magic February 28. I'm a newbie to these boards, but is anyone able to join the meet? I'll be posting lots of questions before we go!:earsboy:

11-12-2003, 07:57 AM
Good News! Aunt was having some medical issues, and was thinking about cancelling. Fortunately, the problem has been dealt with and the cruise is on!!

Missisaugamom...our DD is 6. Hopefully the girls can get together. It always amazes me how our "shy"DD makes friends on "Mickey's Boat"! Do you have early or late dinner seating?

11-12-2003, 08:51 AM
Hi plutospup! We've requested early seating, but we're currently waitlisted for it. Our girls will both be in the Oceaneer's Club together! Has your DD enjoyed it in the past? I've read conflicting reports on these boards about the Club only being for very little kids, but the program looked like something that would still be appealing to my DD.

I'd be a little nervous of her being moved up to being with the 8 to 12 years olds - that's a big age span! Thanks for any info you can provide.

BTW - we're bringing an Aunt and Uncle too!

11-16-2003, 08:57 PM
DD6 has loved the Oceaneer's Club on our last two cruises. First time she was in the 3-4 yr olds, second time 5-6 yr olds. I was concerned that she wouldn't like the older group that had different activities, including the lab...but she loved it! She especially enjoyed making "Flubber"!(I wouldn't have guessed). Both times she made new friends, and had a blast. One time she insisted on going to dinner with the kids. DW & I ate alone that night...a rarity in our lives, and it seemed very strange!

11-27-2003, 09:35 AM
Only 3 more months!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all 2/28/04 cruisers!

11-27-2003, 12:02 PM
;) Thanks Plutospup and the same to you and your family. All 9 of us cruisers (5 from upstate NY and 4 fr. Southern Md.) are all together here in New York today for Thanksgiving and excitedly discussing the cruise! Enjoy your day and look forward to meeting on the 28th!

12-04-2003, 02:15 PM
:cool1: Just made final payment....we are WAY ready to go!!!!!

12-04-2003, 06:13 PM
:D HOORAY!!! It actually makes it more believable that this is really going to happen. Can't wait.

12-15-2003, 07:55 PM
We made final payment today!

DW was inquiring about "Cabana Massages" on Castaway Cay. It sounded like a great idea until we heard it was $115 for a 50 min. massage!

Anyone else have any excursion or spa plans?

12-15-2003, 09:43 PM
Our excursion plans are for Grand Cayman - DH and I are both certified scuba divers, so we'll be diving in the morning while DD is in the Oceaneers' Club. In the afternoon, the three of us are taking the excursion to snorkel at Stingray City!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I'm interested in the Chakra Capsule spa treatment - it looked so cool on the Travel Channel special on DCL! Not sure what else to plan - any recommendations?

12-27-2003, 07:07 AM
Happy Holidays to all!

DCL sent a list of all shore excursions. We've been busy looking over them. DW is interested in the spa. DD6 & I are thinking about the Cayman Island Tour & Stingray City Observatory.(She would never get into the water with them. Her claim to fame is that she "almost" touched a stingray at SeaWorld, before she quickly pulled her arm away!

12-29-2003, 11:57 AM
We received our excursion list and ressie form Saturday in the mail from Expedia.com. Busy looking it over and making our choices!!!!

12-30-2003, 09:19 AM
YAHOOOOO!!! We're 1 step closer to the cruise!!

I called DCL as soon as I got home from work this am and made ressies for our shore excursions!!

I can almost block out the weatherman's forcast of snow for today by imagining the warm tropical breeze on Grand Cayman!:sunny:

12-30-2003, 06:15 PM
princess: Yahoo is RIGHT!!! I can remember when we were counting months and here we are counting days!! I am ever so ready!!

01-01-2004, 10:26 PM
Totally Tigger...What excursion ressies did you make?

For Christmas DD6 received the "La Vida Mickey" CD. We like to play it in the car where we have an "Island Mango" air freshener. Last evening DD6 and I were singing, and dancing in the car. DW thought we were crazy (I'm sure anyone who saw us thought the same thing!). I told DW we were just getting prepared for the Sailaway party.

01-07-2004, 11:10 PM
hey eveyone my name is Eric. I am 14 and new on this discussion board. I will be on the 2/28 cruise! I have been on 1 before last janunary. I am really looking forward to this! If there is anyone on here around here my age please email me.

01-08-2004, 09:17 PM
I may not be 14, but occasionally my DW says I act like a 14 yr old. I take it as a compliment.:teeth:

01-08-2004, 09:24 PM
haha thers alot worse things you can be called...lol

01-09-2004, 06:02 PM
:Pinkbounc Hi Yamahaboy - there are 5 family members from upstate New York meeting up with 4 more family from S. Md.. 1st Disney Cruise for all of us. We have children 23, 20, 14, 10 & 8. Can't wait. Was yur 1st one on the Magic as well? Hope to meet up with you on the 28th.

01-09-2004, 08:20 PM
hey macker, Yes my first 1st disney cruise was GREAT! i cant wait to go back again. i heard they changed the espn sky box into the new teen hang out. Is the 14 year old joing you a guy or girl?

01-10-2004, 08:04 AM
::MinnieMo the 14 yo is my grandaughter. Are you as cold in Ill. as we are here in NY -11 right now. this cruise is looking more and more inviting!!

01-10-2004, 11:43 AM
Your getting the cold we had last week! right now its 18 and im thinking of wareing shorts LOL. Just think that in under 2 months well be on the sunny beach of castaway key! Does your grandauhter have a e-mail?

01-10-2004, 10:26 PM
she does but if you communicate through the threads, she and her family do read them. Brrrrrrr!! Hurry 2/28/04

01-10-2004, 10:36 PM
We've booked a wide variety of shore excursions!!

Key West--2 of us on Conch Train tour; 2 Catamaran & Snorkel; 1 Catamaran Racing

Grand Cayman--2 on Aqua Boat & Snorkel tour; 3 Shipwreck Snorkel tour

Cozumel--2 on Sea Lion & Snorkel tour; 2 Fury Catamaran
(DM decided to sit this port out)

All of these below zero temps are making me daydream of warmer climates soon to come!!!!

01-10-2004, 11:43 PM
WOW thats alot of excursions. Last time we went we went on alot of them but this year were only planning on a few. We would rather spend our time just walking around the islands. You will LOVE the Snorkeling! Its so much fun!!

01-11-2004, 03:08 PM
I know that we may be over doing it a little with the excursions--but where we live the water is pretty cold year round(even in August!). So we decided to take advantage of the water sports in the Caribbean while we could!!:sunny:

01-11-2004, 04:10 PM
yea that makes sence then lol

01-11-2004, 11:26 PM
any one here gone parasailing on castaway cay???? how was it? and aslo does anyone know how old you have to be to go jet sking on grand caymon. thanks

01-11-2004, 11:26 PM
any one here gone parasailing on castaway cay???? how was it? and aslo does anyone know how old you have to be to go jet sking on grand cayman. thanks

01-12-2004, 10:46 PM
Castaway Cay parasailing is GREAT! I loved it! Overall, it's the best of both worlds...the parasailing is quiet, and relaxing, while riding in the boat which pulls the parasail is a thrill as it flies across the waves. Great time!

01-12-2004, 11:10 PM
hey thanks alot! I had it booked for the last cruise but we didnt get to go to the island. The winds and waves were to big to dock. but disney did a great job having stuff for everyone to do!

01-14-2004, 03:54 PM
I see that people have started receiving their docs for the 2-21 cruise!! That means that our docs should start arriving soon!!!

YAHOO!!!! Just one step closer to warmer climates(high temp for today below zero AGAIN)!!!!!:crazy2:

01-14-2004, 04:38 PM
I can't wait to escape the deep-freeze we're in up here! Our current temp is -22, with a wind-chill of -35 degrees!!!!!

2/28 can't come quickly enough for me - I'm really looking forward to doing the happy-doc dance:Pinkbounc

01-14-2004, 09:37 PM
...It should be soon! In the meantime, throw another log on the fire.

01-14-2004, 09:58 PM
Thanks, Plutospup ...

No way we're using our fireplace, though! The downdraft is waaaay too cold for me!

We've now got "lake-effect" snow rapidly accumulating (as if the deep-freeze wasn't enough!) We'll be the family wearing t-shirts and shorts even if it's only 50 degrees in Florida!

01-15-2004, 07:21 AM
Dec '02 we were at WDW's Wilderness Lodge. Early one morning I got awake, put on my swimsuit and went out to the pool. When I saw the woman cleaning the pool we both stared at each other...I was wearing swimsuit & t-shirt...she was wearing a parka, gloves, & hat. It was 41 F. I decided to bypass the pool, and went straight to the hottub!

01-17-2004, 07:49 AM
For those who are arriving in the Port Canaveral area the day before the cruise, an Atlas rocket is being launched. KSC has not announced a launch time, except that it will be 2/27. It's not the shuttle, but should still be a thrill.

01-17-2004, 08:43 AM
Thanks for the heads up on the launch--that would be great to see!! Our air reservations are through DCL so hopefully they put us on an early enough flight to see the rocket launch. I've read somewhere on the boards that DCL puts cruisers on later flights when they travel the day before since it isn't necessary to get there so early!! I hope that's wrong--I was planning for some poolside relaxation Fri. pm!!!:sunny:

01-17-2004, 09:28 PM
Thanks Plutospup, that would be fun to see. We won't make it to Port Canaveral until sixish unfortunately.

01-20-2004, 10:40 AM
ARE REALLY EXCITED:tongue:

01-20-2004, 12:43 PM
Wow - our first member doing the happy doc-dance!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Congratulations Brendmar! See you onboard!:wave2:

01-20-2004, 11:51 PM
Yeah! :hyper:

We'll be watching for that big brown truck!

Meanwhile we'll be doing the doc dance for you :cool1:

01-21-2004, 05:47 PM

01-21-2004, 11:50 PM
Another one! Congrats Yamahaboy.
Our's will be coming soon, then it might seem like it will really happen. :hyper:

01-23-2004, 03:41 PM
I got my docs today!!! No upgrade, but I'm just happy to be on board.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

01-23-2004, 06:05 PM
Can us last minute planners join in?

My wife and I will be on the 2/28 sailing for our 9th anniversary. My kids - 2 boys - are going to spend quality time with their nana. :teeth:

This will be my 2nd cruise ever, both with DCL, and my 1st ever 7 nighter.

I just booked it today. No room assignment; had to take a GTY. No worries, I'll be on a cruise!

01-23-2004, 06:12 PM
Yeah!!! The docs have arrived!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Welcome aboard Smchan!

Gosh, you guys are receiving your docs, and I just now made my reservations. Something seems wrong about that!

Per Disney's web site, I'll find out my cabin assignment when I check-in. Do they really take that long to assign the GTY rooms?

01-23-2004, 06:25 PM
THIS IS AWESOMEEE.....we looked at the tickets and weve been upgraded from cat 8 to 5!!!! we couldnt belive it!

01-23-2004, 10:49 PM
:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc My docs are almost in my possession!:Pinkbounc

Fed Ex attempted delivery twice today but didn't leave them without a signature. I can pick them up at the Fed Ex office in the morning! Different drivers - different rules; our aunt and uncle's docs were left on the front porch with no signature - but who cares -

:bounce: :Pinkbounc I'm doing the happy doc dance:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Congrats on the awesome upgrade, yamahaboy!:sunny:

Welcome aboard, smchan!:wave2: We have a 7 yr old DD coming with us for our 10th anniversary trip. Looking forward to meeting you onboard!

01-23-2004, 11:51 PM
Awesome Yamahaboy! :earseek:

Welcome aboard smchan! :Pinkbounc

Plutospup, mississaugamom & snwwhite :hyper:
I hope to join your dance soon!

01-24-2004, 10:47 AM
Congrats to everyone who have rec'd their docs!! Did any of you book your air through DCL? I've read that we might receive our docs later since we booked air with DCL.

Also, my brother's family booked through Expedia & I've read alot of bad experiences on the board about Expedia & cruise docs!!

Oh well, I'll just keep waiting for the call from my TA!!

Yamahaboy---CONGRATS on the upgrade--very exciting!!!!:hyper:

Just two cold Michiganders that discovered this thread and looking forward to joining all of you on the Feb. 28th cruise. (actually, a "hi" to plutospup since we lived in Lewisburg/Winfield, PA until somewhat recently - We miss the "Fence" and the "Freeze", ever been there?)

So, will we be the only couple without kids along? We've heard great things about the cruises and we're looking forward to the warm and the families on board.

No, my boys are going to be enjoying quality bonding time with their nana while I enjoy quality time with my wife. :D

01-25-2004, 06:54 AM
Jbix00 -- that's really great news about your TA. Tigger and I were really concerned about you receiving your documents early enough. We have heard nothing as yet - beginning to feel a bit impatient!! I saw where you were getting snow - all we have right now is sub-zero temps. Right now it is minus 16 and we are headed to the hockey rink for a tournament!!! Don't stand a chance of being warm today! We just keep thinking 2/28, 2/28, 2/28!!

3 things - I have heard of others doing this cruise without children and just loved it. I am sure you will enjoy yourself.

everybody - keep warm, keep counting down, and am looking forward to all being together on the 28th.

Macker:Pinkbounc  :bounce:

01-25-2004, 07:53 AM
3 things...we look forward to meeting you, and everyone else! Imagine, someone else who is familiar with the Central Susquehanna Valley! Yes, we are familiar with the Fence. My DD6 loves to go down to the river and feed the ducks. We are familiar with the Freeze too, but we prefer Bechtel's (love the cashew covered sundaes!).

01-25-2004, 05:34 PM
Can hardly wait! My husband and I and three kids- son 14, daughter 11, and daughter 8 will be on board- give us any info if any of you have sailed before w/ dcl. :earseek:

Our daughters ages 8 & 14 will also be on the cruise and will probably meet up with your kids!

This is our first cruise, but there is TONS of information in the cruise forum. See you onboard in a few weeks!!!

01-26-2004, 09:31 PM
In reviewing these posts, there seem to be quite a few DD's in the 6-8 year old range! This will be perfect for my 7 yr old. If we have a DIS Meet on board, the girls will all have a chance to meet one another (if they haven't already done so in the club/lab)princess:

We're getting 12-18 inches of snow tonight; I really can't wait for the cruise to get here!

01-26-2004, 10:48 PM
My status changed from a GTY to an assigned room on Disney's website today. I booked a cat. 11 GTY but got a cat 9. I'm please. :D A little concerned about noise but pleased nonetheless.

01-27-2004, 12:08 AM
Our documents arrived today!! They came priority mail-we booked with Costco.

The kids thought I lost my mind

Now we're dancing in the snow, just dancing in the snow... with just a month to go!! :hyper:

01-27-2004, 07:43 AM
My daughter just turned 8 a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad to hear of so many 7-8 yr old girls onboard. She is an only child and can be a little shy at first. I think a DIS meet is a great idea so our girls can meet each other and have friends in the Club/Lab.

Cool...my 8 year old just turned 8 last week - the 17th!!!:hyper: They all should get along great!

31 days to go....31 days to go....

One month from today, and we'll be on our way!

Any ideas on a place & time for a Dis Meet? Diversions...Sailaway Party...Studio Sea...Rockin Bar D? Thoughts & Suggestions?

01-28-2004, 08:54 AM
Would there be time for a DIS meet in between the sailaway party and the early dinner seating? I think that it would be great for all of us to meet--but especially helpful for our kids. If the weather allows--maybe we could meet somewhere on deck 9 or 10 immediatly following the party--that would save time walking somewhere else.

I've never been on DCL before so am unsure of the timing of everything.

I spoke w/DCL yesterday & our docs are being held up for flight arrangments to be released today. Also, 2 older DD & DS have not been assigned a cabin yet--booked a gty 11 in Oct. What does that mean--should I be concerned?

This time next month we'll be basking in the sun!!:smooth:

01-28-2004, 05:45 PM
HEY GUYS!!! Cant wait for the 28th!!! see ya'll there!!!:Pinkbounc :sunny: pirate:

01-28-2004, 07:26 PM
who here has kids 13-15 years old??

01-29-2004, 08:07 PM
 Docs arrived today!!!!!!

2-28-04 here we come!!

01-30-2004, 11:01 AM
Hi all, I just found you. We will be on the Magic for the 28th as well. Coming from cold Maine, we can't wait!! We have a DS whose almost 5 and a DS whose 15 months. Looks like all the kids are older so far. We don't have our docs but hope they will come soon.

See you on the high seas!

01-30-2004, 05:21 PM
Woohoo!! Only 4 weeks to go!

I will be traveling with my mom and dad and my 3-year old daughter. Poor hubby was originally scheduled to come, but work and school obligations are going to keep him from coming along:(

I am so sad for him! There's no way I would let work stand in the way of my disney cruise:p

01-30-2004, 07:39 PM
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you along.

I don't care if the Super Bowl is on right now... (0-0 at the end of the first) All we can think about is the Disney Cruise!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Maybe it's because it's our first Disney cruise... Maybe it's because it's our first cruise... Maybe it's because it's been a very cold winter in Michigan. (It's been so cold, that we decided to do the cruise instead of our normal trip to Fairbanks, Alaska to see the northern lights!):scared1:

Is anyone else out there watching the Super Bowl, but thinking about THE cruise!?!

For those of you who have been on the Disney Cruise before... Maybe you could share your favorite things to do/see on the cruise -- or your favorite things that few seem to know about on the cruise... :earseek:

:duck: Look out! We're almost there!!!!

02-01-2004, 08:04 PM
hey im kinda watching the superbowl but deff thinking of the cruise! haha independence day is on fox! im 14 so my fav thing on the cruise would probally be to hang out with some other kids my age.

02-01-2004, 08:44 PM
:bounce: Go Patriots!!! Yes I am also watching Super Bowl but thinking warm, warm, warm - i AM TIRED OF BEING CHILLED. Being in the hockey rink this afternoon did not help either. 27 days to go!!:Pinkbounc :wave2:  :bounce:

Since this is our first cruise...

When is the BEST time to buy your cruise? (How far ahead of time?) Do the "better rates" apply to all of the rooms or only some of the rooms?

We're so psyched and expected to like the first cruise so much, that we are starting to plan our 2nd one!!

PS - what is the vB Code for?
PS2 - How do I get one of those countdown clocks to appear in future messages?

02-03-2004, 06:01 PM
::MinnieMo I can appreciate your excitedness -- this will be my 5th cruise and 1st DCL and I am being rather impatient for the 28th to arrive!! I LOVE TO CRUISE! See everyone then.:Pinkbounc

Welcome aboard, Mailman028! We're in 6641, close to your friends' cabin.

Your weather sounds amazing - only 24 more days until we're sharing it with you:Pinkbounc

02-03-2004, 09:46 PM
It's been a day full of snow, ice, freezing rain, and then more snow. The driveway has now been cleared, the snowfort and snowmen have been made, and I taught DD6 the proper way to make a snowball.

I'm ready for our cruise.

3things...you might want to look into booking while aboard ship. You will find there are early booking savings, and shipboard credit. Recently, I've heard about discounts as well.

The snow is still dripping from my hair.
Did I mention I'm ready for our cruise...now.

02-04-2004, 12:01 AM
Boy I hear that Plutospup::yes:: ! We've had three all-day sledding trips with bon fires, snowball fights, and all that great fun. We've had two months of snow so far and only one week of it was above freezing!

But I'm through thinking snow. I'm thinking sun and sand and the next three weeks can't go by quickly enough.:hyper:

02-04-2004, 06:05 AM
:earsgirl: :wave2: :yo-yo: :Pinkbounc I too am ready for the sun and fun!!! Snow overnight - looks like 6 inches or so of wet snow!! Temp. today is way above freezing for first time in over a month. Glad to have the sub-zero temps behind us (for rest of winter I hope). Have not rec'd docs as yet but have found out about our flight down which is good - arrive late afternoon on Fri. so will have time to start soaking up the sun!!

02-04-2004, 09:14 AM
Yesterday was our first day above freezing (by 1 degree) in a month! As a result, the snow changed to freezing rain/rain and when temperatures plunged overnight again it's turned everything (walkway/driveway/roads) into a lovely skating rink! I slip-slid my way to work this morning.

I want to go on the cruise NOW!!!!!

I am so looking forward to being there - I've drawn up all my tentative plans for Palo, spa, times at the Club for my 7 yr old DD and started deciding on clothes to take.

The waiting continues ...

02-04-2004, 02:09 PM

All right, Mailman:bounce: Another Diver!:bounce: :bounce:

DH and I are both certified and desperately hoping to dive in Grand Cayman, but we promised our 7 yr old DD she could snorkel at Stingray City. The diving departs at 7:35 am and is estimated as 4 hours. The snorkel trip departs at 1:00 pm. However, Disney would not allow us to pre-book both since there is "insufficient time" between the two excursions!

We thought we had a plan that could work; DH and I dive, and then WAIT at the pier where the Stingray City snorkel trip departs from. Our DD will be with our Aunt and Uncle while we're diving. They're taking the tender over after an early lunch to meet us and take their air-conditioned bus trip of Grand Cayman (departing at 1:25)

Our only option is to plead our case at the Shore Excursions desk once we're onboard. I'm having a hard time understanding what the problem is ... we're assuming the risk of not making the second excursion, right? We'll be paying for it anyway! Wish us luck ...

We've booked the snorkel excursion to Chankanaab in Cozumel for the three of us. The diving trip is in the middle of the day, and experience has taught us that the wave action on Palencar Reef can be a little intense in the afternoon.

Any other divers aboard???? Anyone booked on either of our snorkelling excursions?

I'm so excited ... :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

02-05-2004, 09:00 AM
Myself, DD 10, & Niece 8 are booked on the sea lion & snorkel tour in Cozumel. Is this the same excursion you are talking about? There were so many to choose from that it can get a little confusing!!

Just wait, after a couple of konch koolers(?sp) everything will really be confusing!!!:earseek:

02-05-2004, 09:06 AM
Hi totallytigger!

We looked at the one you're on with the Sea Lion show, but it leaves the ship at 12:30, so we thought it would tie up most of our day in Cozumel. There's another excursion that's just snorkelling at Chankanaab National Park that departs at 9:45 am and again at 12 noon. That's the one we've signed up for.

Bring on the Konch Koolers!

02-05-2004, 04:55 PM
Hey mississaugamom did you think about a shore dive instead.I've been to the Cayman Islands a few times.Where the ship docks is a short walk to Eden Rock. It's has Very good diving, right behind their building. My buddy Jeff and I are doing that. They open at 8:00am and rent tanks.Just bring your C-card.That way you can be back on the ship by 10:00 or 10:30,thats if you do a couple of dives. Here's their website if you want to check it out.http://www.edenrockdive.com/.Grand Cayman has some of the best shore diving anywhere. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.Mike:crazy:

02-05-2004, 05:01 PM
That website should read http://www.edenrockdive.com/

Don't put the Grand it it.One more thing,if you do anything on Grand Cayman it should be stingray city, you will never forget that. The stingrays are like dogs, very docile. Also the turtle farm is really cool.Mike:crazy:

02-07-2004, 08:18 AM

JBIX00 - haven't heard from you in a bit - are you folks just about beside yourselves as well?

More snow yesterday but turned to freezing rain and today feels rather mild but still longing for the 80 degree sunshine. See everyone soon.

Yes, 3 weeks!!!!

Since this is our first cruise, what do you do on the days you aren't at Key West or somewhere? A whole day on a boat? Does it get boring? Does everyone just lie in the sun and read?

Enlighten us...

02-07-2004, 01:32 PM
Boring?!?! Never.

If anything, I have to be careful not to push myself too hard.

02-07-2004, 06:16 PM

Hi all, We will be joining you on 2/28 - 4 adults, 4 kids. Can't wait! Now that I've found some divers I have questions!! DH and I both dive and planned to in both Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Should we bring our own equipment? Is diving in cozumel a bad idea because of the time/wind? Also, if we do not do a boat dive in Grand Cayman won't we miss out on the great reef? What is the best diving here? Do we need to book the dive excursion with DCL now? Do you think this excursion will fill up? And I'm sure I have many more??? Any thoughts on leaving the kids (3 & 5) on the ship for that many hours while we are diving. Is this too long for them? And many more ??'s I'm sure! Thanks:confused:

02-09-2004, 05:48 PM
sry to get off topic but how old are your other kids??

02-09-2004, 07:53 PM
Our kids are DD- 5, DS -3. My two best friends are meeting us from California - One of them has two girls ages 8 and 10.::MinnieMo

02-09-2004, 08:50 PM
Welcome Divindisney.I've never dived Cozumel. But Grand Cayman is another story.Been to all 3 Islands. They have the Best diving so far that I've done.My friend Jeff and I are gonna dive at Eden Rock dive center. They have shore access to 2 very nice reefs. They are very easy dives, and they have a few tunnels to go through. Here's their website. http://www.edenrockdive.com/ But if you want a little bit harder dive, then parrots landing is about 1/4 mile down from Eden rock. There's a very nice wall about 200 to 300 yards from shore. If you want to do that dive let me know and I'll give you some directions on how to find it.It's a little bit of a swim but not bad at all.I can't help you with the kids and pager problem. My wife and Jeffs will be watching ours while we dive.Diving at Eden Rock give us better options. We are gonna dive early so we can spend the rest of the day touring the Island(Turtle farm,Hell etc...).On a boat you have to wait for everyone else, and we only have so much time in Grand Cayman. You also should book an excursion soon if you plan on taking that route.I hope I helped ya.If you need any other info either e-mail me or post it here.Mike:crazy:

02-09-2004, 11:25 PM
Yippee - more divers!!! DH and I did a one-week dive trip to Cozumel in the early 90's and dove every day but one while we were there. The best diving there is on Palancar Reef. It's drift diving, so you definitely need to book an excursion. (I'd be tempted to just book through DCL, but there are certainly dive operators available on the island.) It really is fantastic diving though if you've never been there. I think I was the one who commented about the time of the dive; the excursion group doesn't leave the ship until 11:40 am, and it's listed as 4 - 4 1/2 hour in length. This puts us back at the ship around 4:00. If we have early dinner, there's not really much time to shop or look around in town. We're taking our 7 yr old DD with us. She's an excellent swimmer and loves snorkelling, so we felt too guilty not taking her anywhere in Cozumel. The snorkel excursion leaves about 2 hours ahead of the dive one, so it takes a lot less time out of the day.

As for Grand Cayman ... I'm still determined to get on that dive excursion somehow!!! Our original plan was to leave DD in the club while we were diving - no qualms about it. She would be well looked after and entertained while we were gone. However, we're travelling with our dear Aunt and Uncle who insist they want her to stay with them while we're diving. Okey-dokey!

With the Disney scuba excursions, all equipment is included, so we're only planning to bring our masks and snorkels with us. (Maybe our regulators - depends how much room I have left in my carry-on.)

Feel free to post or PM any other questions! Only 18 more days!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

18 days to go and it's going to sneek up on all of us so quick!

I just got fax confirmation of an excursion this morning, and I noticed that our stateroom number has changed. We were in 2604 (a cat 9), now it is listed as 7608 (cat 5)!!! :Pinkbounc

We may get a verandah after all :hyper: My DH is working graveyard this week, and I couldn't wait to tell someone (without waking him up too soon).

It won't be long now.

02-10-2004, 01:13 PM
Great news on the cabin upgrade!!!!!

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I am SO ready for this trip! DH was in a car accident last night (thankfully he wasn't hurt) but there was extensive damage to his car. Hopefully it will all get sorted out and fixed before we leave.

Do we have any dates/times for a DIS meet? 7 yr old DD is anxious to meet some friends for the Club!

02-10-2004, 03:21 PM
I'm sorry to hear about the accident , I'm glad to hear your DH isn't hurt. My DH, DD (6) and DS (9) were in a car accdient nearly a year ago. Aside from the car, and a torn up shoulder on my DH, our peace of mind was seriously shaken for many weeks. My whole life was in that car .... you get the picture.

I don't think we've come up with a time or a place for a meet yet. Being a newbie, I don't know when there will be time. Do any repeat cruisers want to step up and pick a time and place? I'll be there. :earseek:

02-10-2004, 09:16 PM
I love drift diving,it's the only way to dive.I call it lazy man's diving.Just grab a flag sit back and enjoy. The boat drops you off then picks you up.Mississaugamom do you and your hubby dive in Canada? Are you drysuit certified?I used to dive a lot,but parenthood called so its on the back burner for a while.I volunteer at the Florida Aquarium in tampa to keep my feet wet. They put you to work but hey it's free diving.LOL.The tanks are only about 25 to 30 feet deep.I would love to dive in Cozumel but maybe next time.Just a little over 2 weeks to go.:hyper: I hope everyone has a great day.Mike:crazy:

02-10-2004, 09:27 PM
Hi Mailman! DH and I are both NAUI Master Diver certified, but we aren't drysuit certified. All our training has been here in Canada and our checkout dives were done at an Underwater National Park in Tobermory where the water surface temperature hits a balmy 60 degrees by the end of summer! At depth, it's registered about 42 degrees on our consoles. We never invested in the expense of drysuits when we can survive in our heavy wetsuits (and hoods, and lobster-claw gloves, etc). We "invested" our dive money in Caribbean destinations instead:teeth:

Like you, we've done a lot less diving since parenthood, but we've done enough to keep current (even if it meant freezing up here!).

17 days and counting!!!

Yamahaboy - take care of that wrist - you'll need it for CC Parasailing!:sunny:

02-10-2004, 09:57 PM
Alright everyone, let's stay healthy out there! We're getting closer, and closer!

Missisaugamom...Sorry to hear about DH's accident. Glad he's ok. He probably needs a little Caribbean R&R after that!

Mamagriz...Congrats on the upgrade! Enjoy the verandah.

02-10-2004, 10:08 PM
That's a little to cold for me.My first check out dive the water temp. was about 72 degrees, and I thought that was cold.If I can't wear a shorty forget it.LOL.Here's something ya'll get a laugh from.I love to catch lobster, went with a friend and his dad to the keys(We stayed on marathon).Well caught close to our limit. So here I am in the florida keys catching lobster,I live about 10 minutes from the beach and I hate seafood.Don't like fish, lobster, shrimp at all.Is that sad or what.Gave my share to my wifes bosses.I don't do any tech diving.I don't do caves either. There's a bunch of springs about 2 hours from here, crystal river area. That's where a did my first checkout dive.I'm advanced cert. you need to be rescue cert. for the Aquarium's insurance. If it weren't for that I wouldn't have that.LOL.Mike:crazy:

02-10-2004, 10:13 PM
Wow - the seafood's one of the big things I'm looking forward to eating onboard! I've read so many posts about the lobster tails, the crab claws and the buffet shrimp that my mouth keeps watering!

I'm sure there's plenty of takers for your share! :teeth:

Keep smiling (and keep warm!) everyone:sunny:

02-10-2004, 10:24 PM
hi plutospup..its mailman028 wife jane, we stay at the raddison night before the sailing....did you like the hotel?ANything to do around there?any good food? thks , i like your countdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

02-11-2004, 06:40 AM
We were ok with the Radisson. We would have booked there again except (8 months out)they didn't have any non smoking rooms available. My feeling is the Rad could be a great property with a little work, but as of our last visit (4/25/03) it was just alright. The front desk staff during our two visits was absolutely clueless. Despite asking there was no bell service (Unfortunately, we don't travel lightly!). One room was very nice, the other last year looked worn. The pool area is very nice, but the water in March was like ice!!! When Avis was at the Rad it was a great convenience, unfortunately, it moved down the road. Overall, for a one night stay it's fine, but it's not a Disney quality hotel.

Near the hotel...on each side there are restaurants. Zachary's, and Kelsey's. Kelsey's features Italian food. We very much enjoyed it. Across the street is a McDonalds. Not too far from the Rad is a Manatee lookout. Of course, down the road in town is Ron Jon's. ...and also if you get the chance stop at "The Perfect Gift" and meet Shirley & Norm!

02-11-2004, 07:39 AM
plutospup....shirley and norm huh.. thks for info on the raddison, boy they sure make that website look absolutely beautiful...lol..we figured we wanted to stay close to the port and since most of the hotels there have free cruise parking, mights as well do that then pay at port. We will definielty go to Kelseys that night, since Itialian food is my FAVORITE!! I saw this site for Ron Jons resort, it looked awesome with a lazy river running thru the pool area, and the property looked gorgeous...but i couldn't find any prices...maybe they don't let one stay for only one night. Not sure. thks again for info.... We are getting close now everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

02-11-2004, 09:04 AM
Everyone needs to stay healthy and safe!!::yes::

!st yamahaboy hurt his wrist--now someone with a car accident:confused: Now's not the time to fall apart!!!

Hang in there everyone--we're almost there!!:bounce:

02-11-2004, 02:33 PM
I got nervous about missing the ship so we decided to drive down from Charleston a night early and just booked the Radisson. We won't have much time to do more than take a little dip and sleep so it will do. Hope the pool is heated! I got certified in Catalina, California and I thought 64 degree water was freezing!! When I did my first warm water dive in Jamaica where we go married, I was hooked!! Did lots of diving the first 2 years! Since the kids, we've only dove once- in Cozumel. This will be our third trip there. I also emailed the Red Sail Sports (DCL dive operator) about catching the Sting Ray city tour after diving. They said it can't be done because the dive boat doesn't get back until 12:20 or 1. I really wanted to do both as well! Does anyone know about the dress for kids in the dining rooms/formal night, ect? Can't wait!!!

02-11-2004, 03:45 PM
Thanks for the info, DivinDisney. I never thought to e-mail Red Sail Sports directly about the return times for the morning dives. Given that info, I'm giving up the dream of diving the Caymans this time around.

Our DD is soooo excited about snorkelling with the stingrays. She's been close to stingrays before on a snorkel at Sea Life Park, Hawaii, so she knows what to expect (I hope!). I just called Disney and changed our shore excursion to the morning (7:30 am) Stingray City Snorkel tour.

Any suggestions about what else to do for the afternoon? :sunny:

02-11-2004, 03:51 PM
Sorry - I hit the "reply" button before I remembered your question about formal dress for kids. I don't think there is a set "dress code" for them - little girls seem to wear sundresses, or even their princess costumes, for dinner. Boys are fine in a shirt and pants. No-one expects a suit or tux on them (although they look adorable if they already have one!)

My DD has a long white dress she's been saving for "formal night" along with white platform sandals she insisted on having. (I never knew they made them in size 1 :teeth: ) They were a $5.00 "clearance sale" at the end of last summer, so I don't care too much if she only wears them once.

02-11-2004, 07:11 PM
I don't know about you folk, but I'm ready to get on the ship already! :)

I'll be headed down that way 2 weeks from tomorrow.

02-11-2004, 08:39 PM
I've posted this before. You can do both.Dive on your own.Eden Rock is close to the pier. They rent all the equipment you'll need. Here's their prices. The prices might be in cayman which is $1.25 American equals $1.00 Cayman it doesn't say.
65 cubic foot Tank $ 7.00
80 cubic foot Tank $ 7.00
100 cubic foot Tank $ 9.00
Nitrox 80 cubic foot $12.00
Regulator W/Octopus Console $10.00
BCD Jacket $10.00
Wet Suit $10.00
Weight Belt $ 1.00
Weights per Lbs. $ .25
Compass $ 5.00
Dive Computer $12.00
Dive Light $12.00
Divers Marker Flag $ 4.00
Mask & Snorkel $ 5.00
Fins $ 5.00
Snorkel Package $12.00

So you can dive early A.M. and still make the1:00pm stingray city boat.Plus it's cheaper diving this way. It'll cost $90.00 on DCL.But about $35.00 this way,and if you bring your reg. even cheaper. They open at 8:00am the day we are there.I'm bringing my own gear.So for 2 dives it'll cost me less than $20.00.And I'll be done by 10:30.There's also the turtle farm to do,which is really neat. They have turtles you can actually pick up and hold. These are sea turtles they have.Like Greens,Hawksbills,Loggerheads. This is something I do everytime I go to the Caymans.Well I hope this helps.Mike.

02-12-2004, 03:13 PM

02-12-2004, 03:29 PM
Thanks for letting us know! Stay healthy so you can enjoy EVERYTHING our cruise has to offer:wave2:

02-12-2004, 03:55 PM
...15 to go...15 to go.....

A little "eye candy" while we are counting the days to get us in the mood....

02-12-2004, 05:23 PM
nice pictures!! when did you take those??

02-12-2004, 05:37 PM
That last picture is especially cool! What sort of underwater camera are you using?

I was thinking about an underwater housing for my Nikon SLR, but that rascal is $1000 (!), so I'll be looking for something more, um, "disposable". ;)

02-12-2004, 05:45 PM
:Pinkbounc :wave2: :wave2: No cast - that is great news!! At least swimming, etc. will not be a problem for you. Take care not to injure it any further. 2 weeks tomorrow we head to warm/sunny Fla. I am ready! This weekend is to go down to minus 14!!! enough already. Take care:earseek:

02-12-2004, 05:52 PM
YAY lol thanks macker! and i agree that underwander shot is really cool! And here in Chicago a heat wave is coming in next week!! There calling for 40 next thursday!!!!

02-12-2004, 07:30 PM
:( can't believe the problems totally tigger ran into today with our resi's. My granddaughter's tickets came through with last name misspelled so they had to be returned for correction. 2 out of 9 family members traveling together were confirmed for 2nd dining - made no sense to me to split up the party!! When the corrected tickets arrived today, lo and behold they also came in for 2nd dining (she is only 10 years old and was originally confirmed for 1st) TA contacted Disney and was advised to send an e-mail to be reviewed tomorrow. The attitude and treatment we have received from Disney has been UNBELIEVABLE - not caring, not willing to help, totally disinterested in what is wrong. This my 5th cruise but first with Disney. Given the attitude and treatment we have received over problems and errors which Disney created themselves, I will be hard pressed to book another with them. Sorry to sound so bitter 2 weeks before sail date but our excitement is turning to displeasure rather quickly! Okay, now that I have vented --- see ya!!

02-12-2004, 08:25 PM
How does everyone feel about a DIS Meet Sunday morning 10am in the Promanade Lounge? Not too much going on Sunday morning, and it would be prior to arriving at Key West. It would be a chance for us to meet, exchange postcards, pins, etc.
Thoughts and/or suggestions?

02-12-2004, 08:36 PM
Sunday is a great day for a DIS meet. We have always tried to meet at the sail away party on our last 2 cruises, but it is hard to find everybody. My family will be there Sunday at 10. What about everybody else???

02-12-2004, 09:32 PM
Sorry - I wish the pictures were mine....but they were cut/paste from various websites from Cozumel & Grand Cayman!

Sunday sounds great for the meet.

Macker...want me to send Guido and a few of the boys over to Disney and make them an offer they can't refuse?

Worse case, I've seen on the boards here that you still might be able to get it changed once onboard....action of last resort of course....

02-12-2004, 09:33 PM
Macker...just read your post about the 1st & 2nd dinner seating problems. If they aren't corrected by the time you arrive on the ship, there is a place aboard ship you can go to get it corrected. Honestly, I can't see them splitting up your party. I'm confident it will be resolved.

02-12-2004, 09:34 PM
....and yes.....it's a little after 9:30 PM and I'm still at work......these 15-18 hour days just make me look forward even more to 2/28!!!!!

02-12-2004, 09:43 PM
:sunny: thanks for all the encouragement re: dinner resi's. Totallytigger and I keep reminding ourselves that it can be handled onboard. We are both such HUGE HUGE Disney fan's in any way shape or form, we are having trouble dealing with the attitude she has been receiving. never ran into this before!! Perhaps Disney staff is a bit stressed over the uncertainty of Disney "goings on" and all that is in the news these days! Whatever!!

jbix200 - what's up with your long hours? that certainly would make the 28th more inviting than ever! Sunday am sounds good to me also, I'll check with totallytigger on that one. See everyone soon!!

02-12-2004, 09:56 PM
Macker - new position at work taking up more & more time...a lot of the work I have to do on the computer network can only be done AFTER everyone else has left for the day...(sigh)....just plop me in a lounge chair, slip a konk kooler into my hand and everything will be alright again.....

02-12-2004, 10:02 PM
Hey, JBix00 - what sort of work do you do with computer networks? DH and I are both network administrators as well - he with NT Web Servers and I with Novell, Groupwise, and Windows 2000.

We well know what you mean about the long hours - I was at the office at 3:00 am Saturday morning, trolling the boards looking for ANYONE still posting at that time while I waited for a top-down rebuild to complete. We sometimes joke about having to schedule our emergencies - we're going to forget DD somewhere one of these days!

A conch cooler sounds good - it might sound even better if I was sure what it was :hyper: other than a drink. Any descriptions???

Just counting the days ...

02-12-2004, 10:03 PM
:cool1: :cool1: :boat:
jbix00 I hear what you are saying - I am off to bed for the night and will think warm, sunny, happy thoughts and yes a nice tall coooool drink!

02-12-2004, 10:07 PM
Creme of Coconut, Passion Fruit, Orange Juice, Ice...and Rum, and a little bit more dark rum...and add a little extra light rum...you get the idea!

02-12-2004, 10:07 PM
wow i fell bad for all of you working people! lol im just in high school for 8 hrs a day. and i think that everyone is on this board right now! lol just since i typed this 3 ppl replied haha.

02-12-2004, 10:09 PM
...your day will come! Hope you can join us for the Dis Meet.

02-12-2004, 10:10 PM
Sunday at 10:00 sounds great for our DIS Meet. Count us in!

Macker - we're in a similar boat trying to get our dining arrangements worked out. We've been confirmed on late seating, which we could live with, but DH's Aunt and Uncle are coming along as well. They're both over 80 and absolutely LOSING IT over the idea of eating dinner at 8:30! She calls me almost daily to aski if it's been changed, reminds me that Uncle has to take his meds at dinnertime; must be 6:00, etc. etc.

I'm counting on being able to change it onboard if we haven't cleared the waitlist by then. Does anyone know when they actually start dining assignments? We've been waitlisted since October, but there doesn't seem to be any movement.

Thanks for being such great listeners. It'll be amazing to put faces to your online names!

02-12-2004, 10:13 PM
yeah ill try and be at the dis meet. i know the partys in the stack last till 1 or 2 so ill do my best to get up! lol

02-12-2004, 10:15 PM
since everyone is on here tonight if you all want to go in a chat room witn a aol or aim screen name we can all talk in there.

02-12-2004, 10:15 PM
I can relate about the late dining! Dear Mother 80 (not going on cruise) has "dinner" at 4:30p. She thinks those "fancy" people eat late dinner at 6p!

Look forward to meeting everyone Sunday @ 10am!

02-12-2004, 11:42 PM
We can make Sunday at 10, it will be great to meet you all.

yamahaboy, I'm glad you don't have to wear a cast. Maybe on the 26th you will get the OK to go without the brace as well.

Here in the banana belt of Montana we've had snow on the ground since early November, and maybe a week of above freezing weather. The sun came out today and I felt like a mole surfacing. I'll be the cruiser who has to wear sunglasses ALL the time. :smooth: Clear weather here just means it will get colder tonight...

I work with the computer all day and thank my lucky stars I'm not the network/IT person in my department. I couldn't handle the hours.

Anything above 60 degrees will feel tropical to my family. I've got my packing list and I'm checking it twice (a day). Two weeks!!:hyper:

02-13-2004, 07:53 AM
We'll plan on the DIS meet Sun @ 10am--it'll be nice to finally meet everyone.:) Does anyone know if they schedule a character bkfst for Sun am? My DD10 will not miss that for anything--so hopefully there won't be a timing conflict.

As far as our problems with DCL go--I wouldn't be so upset if we had not booked our cruise over a year ago with main dining being confirmed at that time. I don't feel that I should have to worry about getting it fixed on the ship when DCL made the mistake!! Our original docs say main dining but DD new docs (rec'd due to DCL's 1st mistake) now say 2nd seating!! They had no explanation for TA as to why the mix up--and will only "try" to fix the error--no guarantee:mad:

Boy could I use a konch kooler right now!!
JBIX00--A visit from Guido to DCL would be nice--maybe Cianci could set it up!! LOL ;)

02-13-2004, 08:46 AM
In at 6:45AM yesterday morning....out at 12:15AM this morning...made for a very long day yesterday. But here I am - bright & shiney face in at 6:45AM again:smooth: !

mississaugamom - I have one of those 2-for-1 deals going on right now...my main job is performing a quality assurance & inspection function for air traffic control radars - but my 2nd job is network manager for the location 'cause the old network manager quit. So...seeing how I have an IT degree, management feels they can use me to fill both roles - QA & IT at the same time - for one low price! You know how it goes - they made me an offer I couldn't refuse (..if you want your job, you'll do this for us....!). We have a Win2K network that I am getting ready to switch over to Windows 2003 Server.

:smooth: ...as long as it has rum in it, put it in my hand with a loooong straw!

02-13-2004, 08:57 AM
I know what you mean about the hours and the two-fers.! The favourite line here is "before you go away, can you ... " as yet another task is added with a February 27 deadline! In addition to everything else, I'm also the HELPDESK this week (in my free time, of course  )

Someday I'll plan a last-minute getaway and just leave 'em hanging while I relax somewhere.

Pass the conch cooler! :sunny: Only 2 weeks to go !

02-13-2004, 09:31 AM
OK 2/28 cruisers....time to heat up your printers...

I am going to start posting some links specific to our cruise that you might find handy....so here we go!:bounce:

Great map of downtown Key West (http://www.floridakeys.com/keywest/KW_images/KeyWestOldTownLargeMap.jpg)

The ship sould be parked over on the far left side of the map near Mallory Square. Duval Street has some of the most visited bars/restaurants like Sloppy Joes and Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville.

Some attractions in Key West (http://www.floridakeys.com/keywest/thingstodo/attractions.htm)

Key West pub crawl (http://www.islandwesttours.com/)

I think this tour will get me primed for the rest of the cruise!!!

More to come later....:jester:

Thank you so much JBIX00!! This is fantastic stuff!!!:Pinkbounc

Thax jbix00 for the KeyWest Map link. It's the best map I've seen yet. Can't wait to get to KeyWest, it's one of my favorite places. I think that we've got more stops in KeyWest planned than we have time, but we'll try. Trying to get by by listin' to radio margaritaville.
Not actually packing yet, but have several times in my mind! Tanktops and flip-flops!

Packing yet?? Well YES!!:hyper: It's below zero this am so anything having to do with above freezing temps is already in the suitcase!!::yes:: ::yes::

Only 7 more nights of work left before we head south(that sounds better than counting days--smaller #):bounce:

Everyone have fun with last minute plans!!

02-15-2004, 08:53 AM
Make sure your camera/flash batteries are ok. Went to take a picture of DD6 this morning (first time since Christmas) and all batteries were dead! Glad I found out now instead of two weeks from now!

02-15-2004, 09:29 AM
Lara's (DD7) summer clothes are all piled in her room and I'm taking out her suitcase later today! I always pack her things first - it gives me a chance to estimate how much space I have for bringing home items and whether my extra junk can fit in her bag!

Absolutely freezing today here in "The Great White North". Happy Countdown, everyone - I've gotta daydream about being warm:sunny: :wave2:

02-15-2004, 11:11 AM
yep!!! most of my clothes are piled high in my bedroom as well - needed to sort through to figure out what I needed to purchase. It is difficult to be working with 2 diffent seasons worth of clothes at once, but well worth it!! We are very, very cold here in NY today as well, thank goodness the wind has calmed down and the sun is shining. I just keep thinking 75 degrees and 12 days to go. :hyper: The last week will certianly fly by as I have 3 different appts. that week - you know - all the fun girly stuff - manicure, pedicure, haircut. Guess I should spend some time today for packing because it is back to work tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting everybody on Sunday in Promenade Lounge. Bye for now.:earsboy: :earseek: :Pinkbounc

02-15-2004, 01:17 PM
I've got my haircut lined up for tomorrow afternoon. I was toying with the idea of a manicure. I work with my hands a bunch though so there isn't always anything to manicure.

I've got the suitcases out and have already packed the shorts and sandals. Won't be needing those around here after all.

We are dealing with some family issues that have me pretty stressed out, so I will be that much more ready to relax.

Hard to believe we are almost to single digits in the countdown. I thought it would never get there! :hyper:

02-15-2004, 02:18 PM
mamagriz -- my nails are not great for a manicure either but it just makes you feel so good; I only seem to do a manicure when I head out for vacations once a year is it!!! I joined the world of pedicures a few years ago and that is just wonderful. I pretty much have made up my mind to have one about every 4-5 months.

I am watching the Daytonna 500 and just keep thinking - Florida, Florida, Florida. I am so ready!!

02-15-2004, 08:57 PM
This is our first cruise on Feb. 28. We have a son, 5th grade, 11 years old.

Glad to see so many new cruisers! Welcome aboard one and all.

02-15-2004, 09:30 PM
Thanks. I've been reading the posts on the cruise. Only found out about this site yesterday. Have enjoyed reading the tips and hints.

Any special hints anyone has for first timers?

How did you get the countdown calendars on your messages?

02-15-2004, 10:11 PM
my brother and sister are both 5th graders and 11

02-16-2004, 09:13 AM
were almost in single digits everyone!!!::yes:: ::yes::

02-17-2004, 08:35 AM
phew....they are predicting anything from a dusting on up to 6 inches of snow starting tonight (depending on the track of the coastal storm). This cruise looks better and better everyday! Come on now you people up north...give me a break...you probably rolled your eyes when I mention that "little" amount of snow...but to Southern Maryland, that's a good amount to close schools for a couple days! South of the Mason-Dixon line, any amount close to 6 inches paralyzes the area for a day or 2.

 Everyone who knows the words join in - "...Wasted away again in Margaritaville...searchin for my lost shaker of salt....". Key West in 12 days...seeing the sites, sipping the margaritas....

02-17-2004, 08:43 AM
wow 6 inches that stinks cuz here by Chicago we are expecting 40 from tomorrow to at least monday!!! hahaha:bounce:

02-17-2004, 08:43 AM
I hear you jbix00!! I'm in Richmond, VA and they are calling for a dusting to 4+ inches. If we get 4 inches, I can guarantee my daughter will be out of school for 2 days. Just what she needs right before I pull her out of school for the week. I'm already getting the evil eye from her teacher!!

02-17-2004, 08:55 AM
Although I'm from "The Great White North", I never laugh at what anyone else considers a lot of snow. It sucks wherever it falls

Each region has a limit of what they're equipped to handle as far as snow goes. I remember being in Vancouver once and having the airport closed for 3 inches of snow. (This right after Toronto had 36 inches over a two-day period!)

Stay warm and keep singing warm thoughts ... "If you like Pina Coladas ... "

02-17-2004, 04:56 PM
...we'll be in Grand Cayman!
Check out the webcams www.caymanport.com www.reefgrill.com/netcam , www.reefgrill.com/netcam2

02-17-2004, 06:04 PM
WOW I see where there will be 7 - YES SEVEN - cruise ships in Grand Caymen the day we are there. It is going to be crowded not only in port but also tendring. It wil be a free for all!!

6" of snow is enough to throw everything in a tizzy here in upstate NY - The drivers drive stupid. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

02-17-2004, 06:51 PM
Just one question? What's snow.I haven't seen that stuff in quite awhile.LOL.Talking about bad weather,It's dropping into the low 60's here during the day and low 40's at night.I think the Governer is calling for a state of emergency.Thought I inject a little humor to keep you guy's smiling till the 28th.Take care.Mike:crazy:

02-17-2004, 07:10 PM
haha i was at disney world a couple of years ago and it got in the 40's one day and they were calling in a windchill! lol people were wareing hats and gloves for almost 50 degree weather!!

02-18-2004, 09:10 AM
Monday night we went to the new pool in town and tried out our new snorkel equipment:tongue: ...nothing like getting ready for the cruise! The water temp in the pool was exactly the same temp that was reported for Grand Cayman earlier that day - 80 degrees F. BTW...it's an outdoor pool, but has a heated plastic bubble over it all winter. Sure was cold walking back out to the car though!

In 8 days we are "on the road" to Florida!!!:bounce:

02-18-2004, 09:47 AM
Hi everyone from the Great White North!!! I've been ignoring the weatherman lately on purpose--I don't want to know what's predicted up here--I want to concentrate on what we're headed to next week!!!:hyper:

The fun has begun--I got my new hairdo yesterday and everyday from now on has something going on!!:earseek: Before we know it, we'll be headed to the airport!!:bounce:

Everyone stay safe and warm!!:wave2:

02-18-2004, 06:13 PM
:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: yea!!!!our concern over the mess up on our dinner resis' has been resolved. I finally e-mailed an "expression of disappoint" vs. a complaint about all that seemed to be going wrong, not only over dinner but errors on documents, bad attitude from cast members, etc. Had a call today and dinner resis' are all set, all nine of us are confirmed for main dining. Full of apologies and have a "magic day". Now just waiting for next week to arrive. I AM READY.

JBix00 - how did the practice snorkeling go? see everyone next week.:wave2: :wave2:

02-18-2004, 06:43 PM
Glad that the dining ressie issue has been resolved. One more thing to cross off your list!

...and now back to our regularly scheduled planning!

02-18-2004, 10:36 PM
That's great news that DCL finally sorted out all the mess they were causing re. your dinner ressies. One less lineup to head for when boarding. Now you can focus on the important ones - Palo, Vista Spa, Tea with Wendy, etc.

Happy Planning everyone! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

02-19-2004, 03:02 AM
It's 3 a.m. The Emergency Room has called me back again. Oh joy, maybe I'll get home in time so I can hear my alarm go off at 6a.m. so I can begin another work day. Only 8 more days of work & 24 hr call...and I'll be on vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!

02-19-2004, 07:13 AM
Great to hear that we all will be seated together Macker!!!:hyper: I called Disney Cruise yesterday to make some changes to our excursion reservations...the CM told me she couldn't pull my reservation up because someone else there already had it pulled up and was it was being modified:earseek: :scared1:

I'm calling again this morning to make the changes and see what's up with our reservation...maybe they just had it pulled up to cross-reference our dining seating....

"Training" session went well at the pool...everyone is all set to use their snorkel gear at the REAL beaches!

Has this been used on the boards yet??? " Doin the single digits dance......::jumping1: :cool1: :jumping4:

02-19-2004, 08:29 AM
:bounce: :bounce: Single Digits Are Here!!! :bounce: :bounce:

I am getting to psyched to go ... work is piling up at a rapid rate - one colleague resigned (last day of work February 27) so we're distributing all his assignments amongst three of us. Just what I wanted - more work:rolleyes:

A yucky mixed storm is headed for us tomorrow; snow for the morning commute, followed by freezing rain, ice pellets, rain, more freezing rain, and 6 inches of snow on top of that!

Thinking about being onboard - Spa, Palos, ...

Anyone else planning to book Palo for brunch or dinner? We're thinking Sunday for brunch and Wednesday night for dinner ...

See y'all soon!

02-19-2004, 09:04 AM
hopefully none of the snow anyone is getting, or will get next week will interfere with the airports on the 28th.:(

02-19-2004, 11:42 AM
We're driving down from Maryland, so at least we won't have the "cancelled flight" anxiety over our heads...just have to deal with the coco-nuts on the road:moped:

02-19-2004, 01:05 PM
We are driving three hours to Spokane on Thursday to fly out early Friday. It cost about $500 more per person to fly out of Missoula :earseek:

It's not a bad idea anyway because the Missoula airport gets fogged in frequently this time of year and we didn't want to risk it.

We've gotten an inch of RAIN this week! Unheard of, and quite slippery in the mornings when its all nice an frozen.

Work is really busy for me this week too, but thank heavens I'm not on call! We'll all be ready for this vacation, won't we? :hyper:

Our local airport (Willliamsport)closes at the first flake of snow. We're driving to another airport (Harrisburg) Friday morning that is better able to handle bad weather. One way or another we'll be on that ship 2/28/04!

jbix00...be careful with the "coco-nuts" on the road. Locally, with the way some people drive around here, it's safer to fly!

We got our ressies on a shore excursion we had booked and it looks like we got an upgrade....from cat 9 to cat 5 w/veranda room 5630:tongue:

Anyone else heading down early and/or leaving late? We decided to fly down next Wednesday night to have two days of Orlando warm before the cruise and will stay in Orlando until the Tuesday after our return. Anyone else doing this? (or does everyone else know that this is a not so brilliant idea for some reason?) We just thought it would be nice to have more warm weather!

wow i like that idea ALOT. lol i wish i could do that.

Doesnt look good for us teens. i heard that "the stack" is not a fun place to be. i heard that its very unconfortable! all plastic and metal. but maby the people on that cruise are just whiners lol! im sure itill all work out!

02-19-2004, 09:18 PM
I hope they are whiners for your sake Yamahaboy, if not, I'm sure you'll find somewhere comfortable to hang out.

3 things-if we could get away longer this time we sure would. Extra sun sounds like frosting on the cake.

Awesome Epcotlady and Mailman028, upgrades and refunds sound like a good start to a great time!

Due to work/school commitments, we are living dangerously and flying out of Toronto Saturday morning at 7:15 am:earseek: Unless there's a HUGE blizzard, Air Canada has a terrific track record for leaving ontime, so we should arrive in Orlando at 10:03 am. We're being picked up by Tiffany Town Car and being driven directly to Port Canaveral.

On the way home, however ... we've decided to add on a week at Disney's Pop Century! There was a Canadian at-par offer for resort holidays booked with Visa, so we decided to take advantage of it. Our return to the Great White North will be delayed until March 13.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Anyone else headed for DisneyWorld?

We are leaving teh 25th and spending two days at Universal, then going to Houston Astros-Atlanta Braves baseball game on the 6th. Staying until the 8th. Figured if we were going, we might as well have a great time.

Due to school, we are headed back home Saturday/Sunday upon our return. School here does the most bass-ackwards way of doing spring break - starts on a Thursday and back to school the following Tuesday...so we can't hop on a cruise for a week during break. So, we have to pull them out of school for a week (well worth it!). Both DD's are straight A students, so I'm not too concerned about them missing too much.

Macker - we are taking a shuttle from the hotel to the terminal, so we are at their mercy as to what time we show up. I'm calling them today to get an idea on what time they run the shuttle. Our best bet would be to meet up inside in the boarding line or something like that. Anyone going to have a cell phone with them? I can call you all that morning to firm up our meet time/place!

After our arrival in Cocoa Beach Friday, I'm stopping by Shirley's place to pick up a packet of info on Key West.

Looks like we will be getting on the road Thursday afternoon at 3PM, so, only 6 more days until the start of vacation!:sunny:

We'll be flying to Florida on Friday, but probably won't get to Cocoa Beach until about 7pm. Still, it eliminates the hassle of flying, driving to the terminal, and boarding all in the same day.

I've noticed on past cruises some people have lime green Mickey paint samples (from Home Depot, or anyone else that sells Disney style paint). They re in the shape of a Mickey head. They've been used as tags for their carryons, etc. It helps spot fellow Dis cruisers in Disney's massive terminal.

We are flying in Friday night and staying at an airport hotel.. Didn't want to chance it. We too plan to be on the first bus to the terminal. If you see a lady with a lime green shirt with 3 micky icons on it, that's me!!!!. We are not flying home until Sunday and are going to spend one day at the parks My daughter and I have annual passes and I want to get one more use out of them before they expire!! Can't be that close to the World and not go for at least one day.
See everybody soon!!

02-20-2004, 08:03 AM
mmmm.....I'm off work today, so I'll have to look around and see what lime-green items I can find for our luggage & especially the carry-ons!

02-20-2004, 08:22 AM
JBIX00--Jon & I will both have our cell phones with us. We plan on using them to hook up at the airport on Friday.

Give us a call Saturday am and we can find each other at the terminal.

I still can't believe that we're in single digits!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

After reading the earlier messages, I scooted over to Home Depot at lunch today and picked up "several" paint chips - all in "Alien Green" of course:hyper: :teeth:

I'll turn these into additional carry-on luggage tags this weekend just in case there are any DISer's in the lineup with us.

See you all soon!

I, too, took off at lunch and went to home depot and got several of the mickey shaped paint swatches. "alien green" was the closest to lime green that I could see - so, I have a bunch of those - but I also got some black and white ones for kicks.

As well, of course, as some "maize and blue" Mickeys... Go Blue!
