UPDATE: August 25
Updating for folks just checking out this meet. We decided not to do the Dessert Party for several reason. Our plan was to get 2 boats for an Illuminations Cruise on Nov 17. We were only able to get 1 boat at the 90 day window. We are now trying to secure a second boat by calling for cancellations. No matter what happens with the boat, the current plan is to meet at Beaches & Cream after Illuminations to meet. Stay tuned for more info.

We will be dropping in the 18th, haven't set the attack plan in stone yet. We are dragging three teens along, and I imagine they are going to want to commando the parks.. Of course, this is our first trip home soooo, they may want to hang at the resort and boardwalk.. who knows? Are you leaving the 19th?
Which Circle Pines you at?
zulaya
05-03-2003, 11:42 AM
Didn't know there was more than one Circle Pines:p
I am in the Circle Pines that is a northern suburb of Minneapolis - kinds scrunched in between Blaine, Lino Lakes and Shoreview, if that helps anyway.
Yeah, we leave November 19th in the afternoon. What time are you coming down on the 18th? I am kinda hoping to organize an Illuminations Dessert Party while we are there as it's my DD's birthday. But I think you have to have 25 people total to get one set up at the smaller sites and then it costs like $22 or so per person. So I am not getting my hopes up too high, but it would be neat to do it for her birthday.
I think I might put more feelers out later in the summer when people have had more time to think about it.

Never done the illumination deserts, sounds like it could be fun!
Haven't purchased the airline tics yet. so can't give you an arrival time.. we try to get to MCO about 1300, and get to WDW at 1500 or so. Still crossing fingers fares will drop a few more bucks.. still pretty steep. Also, we would like to take DD15's best friend (those two have been joined at the hip since kindergarden), but her parents can't seem to make up their minds if she can come or not.. kinda puts the crimp on making any other reservations (want to do USO/IOA fri/sat).

The illuminations dessert is just awesome. Absolutely magical.
I won't be there in November :(
Will you send me a pm when you get the final arrangements decided, zulaya? I'm going to put this on the index and leave date and time TBA.

Hopefully as people firm up their dates we can narrow down when we could get the most people. There is a minimum that we have to meet $ wise. I think if we can get 30-35 people going it can go, assuming there's availability.
'Course, if I win the lottery, I am treating.;)

I'm game for the Illuminations dessert party. I helped with one of the previous meets and I think it was around $35.00 with a minimum of 15 people. The price goes down for larger groups. There was plenty of desserts and great friends.

Robert--
I have some info on the last party from the initial inquirer that you needed 25-30 people to make it work, costing around $30 per person, depending on tax and tip. Here's the menu info I have from the Catering Event Manager on getting a minimum of 20 people:
For the Child in You:
Florida Lemon Bars, Double Chocolate Brownies
White Chocolate Chip with Macadamia Nut Cookies and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Chewy Rice Crispy Treats and Chocolate Marshmallow Squares
Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Hot Tea and Lemonade
$17.50 PP++
(1 Hour, 20 Person Minimum)
Old World Classics in Miniature:
Pastries in Miniature to include:
Chocolate and Pistachio Cannoli
Fresh Fruit Tartlet, Vanilla Cream Filled Pastry Horns
Chocolate Eclairs, Orange Marmalade Roulade
Italian Style Ricotta Cheesecake, Chocolate Pecan Pies
Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Hot Tea and Lemonade
$22.50 PP++
(1 Hour, 20 Person Minimum)

Yes that is the correct prices. I remember that we did the Old World party and had just the minimum amount of people. I was only guessing the prices since I couldn't find the E-mails from Disney with the prices.

Wow, sounds like a blast. The 16th would work for us, since we are planning to indulge in the last day of F&W, but I can't tell you whether we would be 2, 4 or 6! Probably 4.
Put us down as "at least 2 are very interested." Sorry to be vague, but this is the first time we are traveling with others. I would LOVE to meet some of you fantastic folks!
Is there special viewing for Illuminations?
Thanks, Barbe

The illuminations dessert party is a special location for our group to meet and greet before and after Illuminations. The last time there was plenty of desserts and drinks for everybody and people walked away at the end with some stuff. The party will be at the UK lower terrace and is a great location to watch the show. This location is also right next to where the boats tie up. The party will begin at 8:30 and will be an hour long.

Jasminesmommy - it doesn't appear that you are going in November. If you are wanting to do this on your own, you have to get a contract thru Disney Catering and pick a date. You have to have a minimum of 20 people. There is no website - you have to call the Catering people.
If you are interested in coming with us in November, I sent you an e-mail.

Hi all--
Just thought I'd post this up to the top. I haven't heard from Robert Walker. I have no way of contacting him except via PM, which I have done several times with no response, which is odd, because before he was very prompt on replying.
At this point, I don't know what to say if this event will go on or not. I believe we would have the 20 people necessary, but without knowing the details of what the next step is, I just don't know.
I just wanted to let everyone know. I think the dates to get Illuminations Cruises for this timeframe are either coming up or have past so I just wanted to offer that if you want to make other plans for something like that, I completely understand.
I will post again as soon as I get in touch with Robert Walker if he doesn't post here first himself.
lizdotcom99
08-08-2003, 04:07 PM
So if he doesn't reply can someone else plan this? I would certainly be willing to help organize one....but I would not want to steal anyone's thunder. I hope we can do this regardless because I think it is a great idea!!!
Let me know if I can help!!!

Its not that I am unwilling...he has the contract! Or so I am assuming as he told me last we spoke via PM that his contact at Disney Catering had the contract in the mail to him. I don't know if we can call Catering and just get another contract and make a go of it ourselves or not.
I am still willing to do a meet as well, if you were thinking about just meeting somewhere that day and not counting on the dessert party.
lizdotcom99

contract option. Obviously Disney knows that there is a group of us planning on comming and it is the same group of people for the same party. possible!!! Let me know if I can help!!!

I'm sorry about the lack of posts. I work for the school board and we are starting on Mondy and I've been putting in some (alot) of extra hours trying to get everything ready. The Lower Terrace isn't available and she reserved us in the UK Upper Terrace. I checked it out the other day and it is just as good ad the lower except it is a little higher.
Kids under 3 are free but we need to have a count of them too. We need to have a total count by 48 hours in advance. The cost is $22.50 with a 20% service charge and 6 1/2% sales tax. The signed contract is due on 10/22/03. I need to verify something on the contract on Monday. The total cost that I come up with is $28.75 each person, but when I take to deposit amount $659.25 ti equals out to $32.96. I will verify that and will put a post on Monday.

How did the price go up to $32.75? You said something about a deposit? Doesn't the deposit come out of our final bill? If so, when we all pay you, shouldn't we just pay in full so it can all be taken care of? Am I missing some detail in the billing here? I was under the impression that the $22.50 plus gratuity and tax was all we had to pay.
Is there some minimum we had to meet? I think we all the people we have, we have 21 or 22 people. I think it's supposed to be less that $28.75 - I don't think you have to pay sales tax on the gratuity, just the $22.50.
Where did the figure of $659.25 come from? Is that on the contract?
Sorry for the questions, I am just not sure I am understanding it all.
rangebob
08-10-2003, 09:00 AM
The price of $659.25 is on the contract. When I calculated it out it came to the $32.75 figure. I think it should be less so I am going to contact them on Monday and ask them about it. It is called a deposit but it is the total payment for the dessert party. there will be no additional costs after we put in that monies. There is a minimun but as long as we have 20 we met it.
barbeml
08-10-2003, 10:02 AM
Wow, $32.75 is a lot to ask a 3-year old to pay for a glass of lemonade and a cookie (about all he can fit).

I just booked the same dessert party for 9/24/03. There is also a $90.00 Event guide fee. If you divide that between 22 people it is about $4.00 each. They informed me it was required with the event. They also take $22.50 x 6.5 (tax) then that total time 20% service. So you are actually paying gratuity on the tax. Seemed wrong to me, but that is how it was figured for our party. Hope that helps a little. We will also be on the upper terrace. I understand there is patio seating for 16 there, where as the lower area has no seating. It is a stand up event I was told. They do not set up any additional seating. Hope you all have a great time at your Dessert Party!!!:D

zulaya
08-10-2003, 04:40 PM
So is the $90 included in the $659.25? Or is that in addition to the $659.25? This is sounding less and less appealing.
KDawnLily
08-10-2003, 06:54 PM
I did a quick calculation and this is what it looks like to me
20 x 22.50 = 450.00
Catering fee 20% = 90.00
plus tax at .06.5% (on 450.00)= 29.25
plus gratuity at 20% = 90.00
Total amount 659.25
In my humble opionion it looks like we are being charged gratuity twice.
or there is a minimum of 24 required to attend.

dizzyintx no longer can join us as her group is no longer travelling to Disney in November. Don't know if this changes everything, but I think it puts us below 20 people total.

If this is not going to work out people wise...is anybody interested in doing an Illuminations cruise.....we could always try to get 2 boats...that should be enough for all of us that are interested as each boat holds 12 people and then it would be about 10 bucks each plus tip??????Let me know what you all think as we don't have much time....the ressie needs to be made exactly 90 days out.

08-12-2003, 07:53 AM
If the Dessert Party thing falls through the cruise sounds like a good idea. Last night as I read the latest updates here I thought about suggesting that we meet at Beaches 'n Cream for a Kitchen Sink party. Or just meeting up somewhere in Epcot. Maybe at the Canadian pavillion for an Off Kilter meet before Illuminations. It would be nice to meet a new bunch of Dis folks.
zulaya
08-12-2003, 08:03 AM
lizdotcom99 -I think calling for the boats might be a good deal too. A lot cheaper that's for sure, but probably harder to get. If we decide to go that route, I am willing to call and try and get one. How many boats go out on a given night for Illuminations? I know they are typically termed the 8pm Specialty Cruise, but is there just one boat? 90 days out is next Tuesday, August 19.
fixintodie - I also like your idea of meeting at B&C for the Kitchen Sink. That could be great fun and give people a lot more flexibility if they weren't sure of committing, but maybe wanted to show up.
Any other opinions on a back-up plan? The count that I have, especially if 3 and unders don't count towards the 20 minimum, is only 17.
barbeml
08-12-2003, 09:57 AM
I'm for the cruise idea!$10 per head plus tip is a lot more attractive! Meeting informally at Beaches & Cream is also a great idea.
KDawnLily

I'm up for the cruise idea also. And a meeting at Beaches and Cream informally sounds like a great idea. Mom and I were also thinking about the possiblity of just get some PS's for Rose and Crown Patio on that day and all meet there but we really like the cruise idea. Count us as 2 no matter what the idea- we are so looking forward to meeting you all.

Anyone else interested? We can have up to 24 people if we can get two boats!!!! And I am fairly certain we could get them to be parked side by side. There are only 4 boats so someone might have to reserve 2. If this is the real plan we need to get a game plan in the works...It appears as though there is certainly enough interest. And I love the Kitchen Sink Party Idea!!!!And it is sooooo close to the boat dock as well!!! Let me know...suggestions are appreciated!!!

I've already replied to zulaya that we would like to be included in the cruise if the Dessert Party fails to materialize. The only thing I ask is that y'all don't plan a get together during the day on Monday the 17th of November. DW and I are going to be off visiting relatives during the day and we won't be back until 5 PM. We'd hate it if we missed out on meeting any of you.
zulaya
08-12-2003, 11:14 PM
Okay, here's what I have so far. The following people/parties are interested in the Illuminations Cruise option:
zulaya - 4 people
lizdotcom99 - 2 people
barbeml - 6 people (is this right, or are we back to 2?)
KDawnLily - 2 people
fixintodie - 2 people
So if barbeml still has all 6 of her group going, that's 16 people. We would need 2 boats to make it a go. Here's what I have for cost breakdown:
$120 per boat plus 6.5% tax. So for 2 boats, the total with tax is $255.60. So if we have 16 people, that would be $15.98 per person. Then we could leave a tip for the captain of ecah boat up to each group.
How are we all feeling about this option?
KDawnLily
08-13-2003, 01:45 AM
I'm feeling great about this option.
We are definitely in for this.
Thanks zulaya and lizdotcom. You guys are doing a great job with this.
mmmm Kitchen sink and close to the Boats???? you may have a couple more takers for that too!

08-13-2003, 09:20 AM
Okay, so if we go ahead with this, who can call next Tuesday? Liz can't. I can. Can anyone else? The more that call, the better the chance at getting the 2 boats we need. I think you need a credit card to reserve, but they don't charge you until you have taken the cruise.
So can anyone else call next Tuesday?
barbeml
08-13-2003, 09:23 AM
Our group of six is in for the cruise. How many does each boat take? Maybe we can interest more people in joining us.
zulaya
08-13-2003, 09:43 AM
Barbe - each boat can take 10-12. I think if we can get 2 boats we can post on the November cruise link on the Theme parks board and see if anyone else wants to join us, or we can leave it at our group.

with excitement!!! I don't handle "waiting" to well and patience is definately NOT one of my virtues!!!! Thanks you everybody for pitching in and helping out!!! I think the cruise thing is a great and cheaper alternative. And who wouldn't like Beaches and Cream for dessert????? Once you guys get the boats, we can post on the November cruise board and scratch this thread...or at least start a new one????? I am sending lots of PD and thanks to everybody!! Can't wait to meet you all!!!!!! By the way, what is the date for this again....believe it or not I am trying to get my PS's all in a row so I can call!!!!!

OK looks like the plan has changed. The $90.00 is for the cast member that helps with the party. They are the guard that keeps other people out of the area and it is in the total cost. Children under 3 are free. Let me know if you want me to keep this or to cancel it.

In talking with everyone else, we are more interested in attempting to get an Illuminations Cruise for November 17th instead. So please cancel the contract you have.
KDawnLily and I are going to be calling on Tuesday, August 18 to see if we can get 2 total pontoon boats for November 17th.
We will both post here that AM and let everyone know what the results were.
Thanks to everyone for keeping with it through this process. I hope August 18 sees some finality in our plans!

I was on hold for 5 minutes and I even called at 6:58.30 just like I do for Cindy's. All the boats for Epcot were already gone!:(
Here's hoping KDawnLily or my Dh has better luck.

DH just called! I swear, he has the magic fingers. Not only did he get us Cindy's yesterday, but he actually got us 1 boat! Does he rock or what? It only fits 12 so if we can't get another boat, we can cancel and try the B&C.
KDawnLily, any luck?

> Does he rock or what?
I thought Tarzan Rocked. :jester:
BTW, the CM says that I'm supposed to tell my DW that "I did a good job." She was cool.

Yeah, that lightsaber is my DH. No living with him now with his successes yesterday and today.
I guess KDawnlily didn't make it through as she hasn't posted.
I put in a post on the Illuminations Cruise Central - November thread on the Theme Parks board. Hopefully there's someone who will be looking to share for November 17 that we can work with.
If not, I'll keep trying to call off and on. Cancellations happen so we might win out in the end.
Any comments?

Good job lightsaber/zulaya clan. Will you be running a lottery to fill up the boat or are bribes in order? I'll offer an "all you can eat Beaver Tail" extravaganza at the Canadian pavillion as an opening bid!

I HAD NO POWER! WAAAH!
Can you believe this? I wake up this morning.. and there was no power! It just came on now.
I had no way to post. I called this morning(ugh cell phone bill will be huge this month) and they were sold out.
We can keep trying for cancellations...
Well- Beaches and cream anyone?
I apologise I wasn't able to get a boat- but I have not given up. I will keep everyone posted...
Zulaya- Your DH Rocks..congratulations on the Cindy's PS too!

Bob - ha ha ha! Seriously...I think we should keep trying for a cancellation. That should be a relatively slow week, right after Food &* Wine and before Thanksgiving. I think we might have a chance at it.
And like I said, I already posted on the Illuminations thread that we were looking for another boat.
Since we have up till 48 hours before to cancel, I think we'll sit tight and see what happens.
KDawnlily - bummer about your power! Thanks for trying though!
I think if anyone wants to call WDW PLAY off and on for the next 3 months, feel free and if anyone snags a boat, just post here.
I think worst case, we just meet for eats at B&C or somewhere else in Epcot. But I really think we have a chance at getting another boat.

Greg and I have already been on an Iluminations cruise and would give up spots on the boat.....but we would definately want to meet everybody at Beaches and Cream......besides we could stand on the bridge and heckle you guys from above.....but if you find yourselves with another boat, then count us in for that as well. I can't believe we are less than 90 days out!!!
I will also see if I can snag a cancellation as well.

Hello everyone..
I am KDawnLily's Mom.. obviously :)
I just wanted to let you know that Kim (Kdawnlily) is trying everyday to snag an Illuminations Cruise also. She is having problems logging into the Dis and she wanted to let you all know that she hasn't given up yet. She will probably post using my User name too..... Don't know what happened to her name.. it just won't log in anymore.. She said something about the tech board so that is where I am headed. We look forward to meeting you all, whether it be at Beaches and Cream or at the Cruise (I am the 2nd in her group of 2 looking forward to meeting you all).
We will post when we get that cruise- She is confident that if she calls enough and learns all of the CM's names at WDW PLAY that she will have a cruise for us to share.
She was awfully dissappointed when she wasn't able to get through- on top of her 'no power situation'.
Thanks lizdotcom99 for trying also, I'm sure that one of you two will get that cruise.

It is gonna definately take a group effort....maybe we should coordinate calling times...morning and afternoons so we aren't calling at the same time!!! Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and pixie dust!!!!!

Hopefully, we can snag that second boat!

Okay, can we all post when we arrive in WDW? I believe the cancellation policy on these cruises is 24 or 48 hours. If it gets to that point and this is the only time we are able to snag a cruise we will have to somehow get a hold of everyone at their resorts.
Can you post when you arrive and where you are staying? If we get closer to the time we can get first and last names and such if we need to.
I arrive on November 15 and am staying at the Beach Club Villas

Hi Everybody,
I was just thinking it is time to get rid of this thread and start fresh...especially since this is no longer an Illuminations Dessert Party! Now we do infact have a dilema we need to deal with...the second boat..argh...So with that in mind and me being an obssesive planner here are my thoughts. We definately have decided to do the Beaches and Cream thing right????Should we post a thread jsut for that event as I am fairly certain we would get more people interested in that if it were just a meet. My thoughts were 6 pm on the 17th. That gives us time to meet and enjoy eachothers company and then for some... the cruise. What do you think about that? Also we are going to want to get a head count and see if we can let B&C know what is headed there direction and if they may be able to help us with seating!!!
Now about the cruise....I am every bit as optimistic as I can be but....I think we need to have a backup plan in case we do not secure the other boat as we are 4 people over the limit. Greg and I will forego the cruise if we can not get another boat, but that still leaves 2 people too many for the cruise. I would hate to cancel the cruise entirely because of this but we need to think of a way to make this fair. Any suggestions, or would anybody care to join Greg and I on the bridge just over the boat to heckle:p? We might thinkabout starting a seperate thread for the cruise as well. Please let me know what you all are thinking....I am still calling daily to try to get that boat and will continue to do so. Also it is a great idea to make sure we know where everyone is going to be especially for those last minute "issues". It might not be a bad idea to start a name/phone tree with names, resort staying at and possibly a phone number (cell) if you live with yours like I do. That way if there is a last minute cancelation we can do what we need to do to get a hold of anyone. Again, this is all in my little mind...please feel free to chime in if I have overstepped or am overthinking this whole thing.

Liz --
I did change the title of the thread to Illuminations Cruise (hopefully) or else B&C.
If you all want to start a new thread, I can start one and we can all just move it over there.

We, too, would defer to others for the cruise. We've got 3 trips planned in 2004 so it's not a big deal to delay doing the cruise until our next trip. We definitely want to meet with the group at Beaches 'n Cream. If the weather is right we could probably get seated outside as a group. It may be a minor problem getting seated together inside. DW and I look forward to meeting with you all. The good news is that it's only a little over 7 million seconds before the proposed 6 PM meet.

Meeting after the cruise is fine with us, hate to see your Hoop De Doo get cancelled or changed after all the time you've spent on this.

I moved the Hoop De Doo to Tuesday at the early show. Not a problem. But I had to swap with 1900 Park Fare. We have a PS for 5pm, so it's possible we might be a little late, but save seats for us and we'll eat ice cream with everyone.

fixintodie, thanks for "getting off the boat" per say....but we can and will keep trying...
zulaya, thanks for moving your PS...I know that is a pain...
My thinking on before was that I did not thing B&C would be open after the cruise......anyway I just posted a new thread titled Beaches and Cream Kitchen Sink Party...please be sure to sign up there so we can get a fresh start and a proper headcount. This thread is getting so difficult to follow. Hope this helps...and we are still working on that second boat!!! Just keep sending PD. There will be a thread up for the crusie as soon as we get another boat.......or zulaya will be getting in touch with you!!!!! This is going to be great fun....don't know if I can wait 7 million seconds.....

Hello all.
We arrive on November 9 and are at the ASMo until the 23rd.
We will post on the other thread for the B&C too. We are still trying to get that second boat also. CM's do keep telling us to try again.
