Hey Desiree,
Thanks for the TOM warning! What age is Devyn? Does the league you guys are in have a rule regarding playing time? Just wondering, you know this gets into my realm (athletics) and I was curious to know some of the circumstances. I think it is great you are going to coach!:worship:
Coaching is not an easy endeavour, but it can be really rewarding and very unpleasant at times so be ready for both ends of the spectrum. The key is to always do what you believe is right and you should be fine. But remember, you will probably not please everyone and that is the sad reality, but be true to yourself and try to do the right thing!

Just a quick update here. Been averaging about 3 x a week at the gym. Not what I'd like, but we've been really really busy!
Devyn got "recruited" by one of the other moms on her team to play in a summer fastpitch league. I'm already very pleased with this. We ended up having a long talk with the current coach last night. He of course, kinda hemmed and hawwed around the situation, but it is known now that Devyn will not be playing on this team next year. (I didn't let on to the fact that we would be the ones coaching either!). Her coach did say that he rotates the outfield only so each kid would only be out just one inning a game. Now, we only play about 3 innings maybe 4. (Games are an hour and a half, max 10 batters per inning unless the other team gets 3 outs). I bit my tongue when he said that. (Devyn sat out 2 innings last night). I wanted to hear what his philosophy was. Now, next game if she sits out more than one inning, I will say something to him. Other parents have come up to me and said that Devyn is too good to be sitting on the bench that much. Of course, I"m not partial, but I agree :) Anyway, back to the recruiting part. Apparently this lady has been a silent observer all along and sees the potential Devyn has. She personally hand-picked Devyn and another girl to fill the spots needed for her team this summer. It seems like she really has all her ducks in a row too. So for about a month we'll be rotating games/practices between the two leagues. BLAH!!! It's going to be a busy month! And she wants to start swimming this summer! Eeek! I may never see the internet again!
Dax: Dev is 10 btw. Well, she will be 10 on the 27th of this month.
Oy so much for a quick update!
Planning on hitting the gym this weekend. Got mom's day on Sunday then Sun. night going to see Chicago in concert (again!) :) Yay!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Desiree-
Things have been busy around here, and just getting a chance to catch up on journals.
Hope you had a great Mother's Day and that the concert was wonderful!:sunny:
That is great on Devyn being picked for the summer league. Sounds like the current coach is either making it up as he goes along, or he just isn't paying atttention as to who has sat out already. Either way, at least it will be over soon. Hope she "shines" on the new team.
Hope you got a chance to get to the gym also, you need some time for you!:sunny:
Have a great week-

Hey guys.. I havent been posting much, I know!! I'm sorry about that. I'm kinda digging this mom's taxi thing! We'll we're up early today. Dev has practice this morning at 9:00 am (the other practice for the original team was cancelled and I'm relieved since it was scheduled at 9:00 am too). At her practice, they will be working on sliding........ in the mud. Yes, we've had the great deluge here. It's been raining almost constantly since Wednesday. No message yet that this practice has been cancelled yet either. SOooo I will have to bring some old sheets to put over my car seat if the practice does go on as scheduled.
Oh, after our little talk with the coach, Devyn managed to play the entire game on Thurs. (We were able to squeeze that one in.) Of course, we only had enough girls to play though, but at least they didnt get a chance to put her or anyone else on the bench and forget about them!
Chris and I are planning on going to the gym today. I haven't been eating as well as I should, so I need to buckle down on that. Other than that I hope you all are doing well!!!

Tell Devyn the key to sliding is to get down waaaaaaaaay before you think you should and that will prevent nasty sprained ankles on the bases. (I speak from experience!)
I have new posts about new things going on in my life and Desiree, you are about my most faithful poster so I thought you should know!
Enjoy your weekend!

OH bad bad bad. I'm going to have to start completely over. With everything going on with late games and practices, we have been taking the easy way out and what's worse is that I've started drinking cokes again. I was doing so good! :(
All the summer shorts that I was able to get into, now have shrunk I think! Oy, back on the wagon again. I vow as of today, no more bad stuff. (hanging head in shame) And after this last sprite, no more cokes either.
Gym.... gosh haven't seen that in about 2 months! Now that the other softball season is over, we're getting back at it hot and heavy. Only two games this week and hopefully minimal practices.
I havent even dared touch the scale, nor do I want to. :(

CHRIS AND I ARE GETTING MARRIED! (FINALLY)! lol
There were no romantic proposals or anything, but it's official. We're hoping to get married on October 31st, 2004. In like 145 days! eeek!

So back on the wagon, right?? I'm glad that the schedule will be less hectic now and hopefully you'll be able to work some healthy food and exercise in there somewhere. A busy life can really get in the way of all this healthy living stuff - so go easy on yourself. Just do the best you can.
Hope your day is filled with love and laughter! :sunny:

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been posting much. Well we've set a date. November 27th. So I have almost excatly 5 months. I'd *like* to loose 30 pounds by then, but I'd be happy with 20. So 20 is my goal for November.
My friend is back in town (the one that led me into temptation last time she was in town), but I'm committed (or I think I should be! lol) to stick to it.
Again, no more cokes. I vow that I will not tempt myself with them and I will have no more beer either.
Ah, a brand new day.

We've started a bit. I'm waiting on a loan to get approved (hopefully) before I can get too much more done. :) I do have a place reserved. It's a local botanical garden here. (The weather is still usually warm here in November) and we'll have the ceremony *weather permitting* in the rose garden area. They have a facility on the grounds too where we're going to have the reception.

Sounds like things are going well Des, I am so happy for you all! Put your mind to it and you can lose the weight. It is a mind thing, and we know you are strong enough mentally to do it!!!
By the way, while I was in climbing school I buddied up with a guy from Hammond who actually works in Baton Rouge. Small world huh? Something about you Louisiana folks! He actually made me some jambalaya which was unlike anything I had before and it was great!
Gotta run,

Well I've only been to the gym about once a week, but Devyns last week of softball is next and we should be able to get back to full steam by then. I have nixed the cokes and beers and I'm only down 1 lb so far. But I really have 6 weeks that I really need to try and get down a bit. After that I have to go for my dress fittings and once that happens, I really won't be able to loose any more weight, except for toning up and staying fit.
Sooo that's where we stand. I'm really tempted to skip all this wedding stuff, go to the courthouse and then go on the honeymoon to WDW & US/IOA!! Tempting, eh? Oh well. Guess I'm paying for it, I should stick it out. :p
Dax you evil, evil man. How dare you mention jambalaya!?! (Just joking) :) I'm going to be in trouble when football season starts. :( That's when all the good food is in season.

Hi Desiree_
How did Devyn do on her summer league? Hope she got a lot of playing time in.
I really like your idea about spending it all on the honeymoon- sounds like a great plan! :sunny:
Do you get FIT-TV on your cable station? They have series Buff Brides- that comes on later in the evening. I catch it sometimes while walking on the treadmill. They get a personal trainer and a diet for I think 16??weeks. Most of the ones I have seen have all exceeded their goal and had to have their dresses taken in. Of course all paid for in exchange for filming the whole thing. :teeth:
So just pretend you are on TV and go for it girl!!!:Pinkbounc
I know you will make a beautiful bride.

07-14-2004, 02:15 PM
Desiree, don't you worry about losing weight after your dress is fitted! If you lose another 10 pounds they won't have any problem fixing your dress. Now if you GAIN.....nah, you won't gain!!
I hope Devyn enjoyed softball this season. I also hope things will start to slow down and you can get back to your exercise routine. Gotta exercise to beat that wedding-planning stress!!
Hope you have a :sunny: day!

We ended the softball season last night by beating the #1 team in the league! It was so worth it! We played awesome (well, Devyn and her teammates did!) It was a great ending to a really fun season.
Now, I'm committing myself (?! ) to 100% healthy eating and exercising starting... NOW!
I'm ready for this weight to come off again and I'm determined to do it. Since we've been out of the rut, I've gained back all that weight I originally lost, but I'm not worried. It will come off again and this time it will stay off! And I know I have the support of all my wish buddies to help me do it!
Chris and I excersized twice this week with a day off yesterday. Going back to the gym tonight but can't go Friday due to a wedding we're attending. But we will be back Saturday and Sunday.

Well apparently I can't do this alone. I've been making really poor food choices lately. I'm going to start journalling my food intake again. It's the only way I can actually "see" what I'm doing and what I need to do to fix it.
Yesterday I did get all my water in and went to the gym but only did the Elliptical machine for about 10 minutes. My mom joined the gym with us so now I don't have any excuses for not having anyone to go with. Chris and I previously had been walking on the track but once I started back indoors doing the Elliptical I've decided that I get a better workout using that than just the outdoors walking.
Yesterday's food was the kicker.
No breakfast
Lunch - Fried fish and french fries
Dinner - Chicken Nuggets and chocolate chip cookies
Today I'm planning on doing the full thing. 30 minutes Elliptical and weights AND eating better.

Yesterday went well. Got all my water in and did the full exercise and got some swimming in also.
B- Banana
L- Had a late lunch/dinner of potatos, corn and talapia fish.
D- once again a late snack of broiled pork.
I'm going to start the cheat free thing today too. So day one and full steam ahead. I only do cardio tonight and I think I'm going to start getting my uncoordinated self to start doing aerobics or something. Kickboxing would probably be more my taste though. Time to step up to the plate. Bases are loaded and there are two outs.

L- Subway 6" on wheat w/ baked Lays
S - 2 pickes and 2 peices of toast! (BAD on the toast! I was starving. )
D- Raising Cane's Chicken fingers. (Ooh bad there too. 4 chicken fingers, I ate about 60% of the fries and 2 peices of texas toast)
Did get all my water in and 35 min. on the Elliptical and 30 min. of weight training. Other than the food slip-up, I did have a pretty decent day.

B- Banana
L- Baked Chicken & Carrots
D- Breaded chicken nuggets
Got all my water in and did the Elliptical at the gym for 35 minutes. On it, I almost burned 300 calories. That's the most I've ever burned on those machines! I was so close too. 293.1. I WILL hit that 300 before the week is over!
I know I've been only really active doing this for a few days but I already feel better. Now if that stupid scale can start moving the right way. I've got to teach myself not to get on it other than my weigh in day.

B- 2 packs of Instant Oatmeal
L- 6" subway sub on wheat with Baked Fritos
S- 1 pickle
D- (here's where I blew it).... Popeye's Fried chicken. Only ate one piece of chicken, but had 3 biscuits and several fries

Well Desiree it has been awhile!
Your rock partner has fallen apart, I am doing major stress eating in anticipation of a possible strike at work, but I have decided it goes on no further than today, which was a chinese buffet!
I hope everything is going well with the wedding plans. a retired employee of mine is moving to Baton Rouge to be near his daughter and he is really stressing about where to buy a house. Get this...his decision will be made based on where he can be in a Bellsouth coverage area because as a retiree his phone bill will be free. Isn't that funny? It is not hard around here because most everywhere is Bell, but I guess there are just a ton of companies down there!
Well gotta go,
Dax

08-07-2004, 08:39 AM
Yesterday's recap. Well we took our first day off from the gym. Had alog going on after work last night. I had to pick Devyn up from my ex's and then we all went to a Hot Air Balloon Festival. Had alot of fun (until my camera's batteries went out!). Got most of my water in yesterday and I had 2 beer (light, of course), which I'm also trying to lay off of comepletely. That was my treat for the week for going to the gym every single day.
Scale says I'm down a pound. Which is more than I was expecting. It seems really hard to get a jump start on that scale when you first start! But I'll take anything at this point. Maybe now I'll never see 190 ever again (hoping!)
B- Banana
Snack - Apple
L - Small personal Pizza
D- Small order of jambalaya & 2 beer
I've been doing good at not doing any bad snacking so far so I guess I can roll the cheat free bear over again! (Let's hope the no snacking rule still applies come football season!)
Dax... I'm sorry to hear about the stress your under right now. Gosh I know all about stress eating. :( You sound ready to get back on track though and I'm sure you'll weather through this storm just fine. If your friend has general areas of interest that he's looking at I can give him an insiders perspective of which of them is good and which is not so good. I know alot of people here do use BS, in fact, we use it here at the house for our phone company. Just let me know if you need any help with that!!

Thanks Val!
Well I didn't make it to the gym last night. Dev had a good bit of homework and so did I! I also went by our local community college. I'm thinking of taking some classes this spring. Gotta get past the wedding stuff first!
Here's the rundown.
B- skipped! Whoops! Forgot my banana at home!
L- Catfish fillets
D-3 small slices of pizza
I managed only 64 oz. of my water in so I've got to do better on that today.

Desiree, it looks like you're focused on your healthy living. You're working hard to get your exercise in and to eat right. I am a little worried that you're not eating enough....have you put your food into Fitday to make sure you're getting enough calories?? You shouldn't go below 1,200, OK?
Congrats on losing 2 pounds! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Those smaller successes will keep adding up to bigger successes!

Well didn't eat as good yesterday, but I didn't snack again!
B- Banana
L- Catfish fillets
D-Pizza and cheesesticks
I did get to the gym and did both my cardio and weights in. My pants are fitting a bit better so that's a good thing, right?! Oh, also got my water in too.

Well I didn't make it to the gym last night. I was asleep by 8:00 pm! I guess I needed sleep more! I am going tonight though. Food choices weren't the best in the world yesterday, but we were trying to get rid of leftovers last night.
B- Banana
L- Subway 6" on wheat & Baked doritos
D- Leftover pizza
Desiree
08-15-2004, 09:17 AM
Let's see if I remember Friday's menu:
B- Nutrigrain Bar
L- Chicken and rice casserole
D- Popeyes
Yesterday we went to the beach at Ship Island so everything was off
B- Chicken salad Sandwich w potato chips :(
L- Tuna Salad Sandwich
D- Arby's Roast Beef Sandwich with potato cakes.
Needless to say my choices could been much better. I didn't do so good this week at all. I'm back up to my starting point of 190 so it's like I'm back at the beginning. Not sure if I'll even be able to go to the gym today as I've got a sunburn. Not too bad, but I'm still very tender. :(
Bad couple of days.
Desiree
08-16-2004, 09:51 PM
Well I did much better today despite not getting all my water in.
B- Nutrigrain
L- Subway turkey & ham on wheat w/ Baked Lays
D- Talapia w/ small serving of mashed potatoes and green beans
Also did 35 on the Elliptical and 45 min. in the weight room and I upped some of my routine's weight by 5 pounds. Just the stuff that was getting too easy. Mainly legs and a couple of arm ones. I've decided I also need to do the sit-ups every day. Not just on weight days at the gym.
Chris has stopped going to the gym, but my mom started. :( I wish he'd go too. He's still trying to cook better for us and will help with that, but I'm afraid he's lacking motivation. Maybe if he sees me loose alot of weight and look all sexy he'll want to start going back. :) I'm not going to take him off the membership either. It would only save $10.00 bucks by doing so, so it's not a real big deal, other than the fact that he isn't going. But my mom does seem to be enjoying it so far. I had a rude awakening though. I didn't realize it (she always "seemed" much bigger to me) but she's only 10 pounds heavier than I am now. UGGH! Boy is that horrible wake up call.

Hey guys. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. I'm still exercising but having some trouble getting down a few sizes. I'm not dropping anything yet. :( It's been a rough couple of weeks. We had to put Devyn in the hospital with a staph infection (another one) and she was dehydrated too. So needless to say, with makeup homework and everything else, it's been really hectic around here! I'll try to post more though! I am still going to the gym. I need to work a bit better on getting my water in and making better choices.

Dax: Oh man. .Yes, I was there. It was pathetic. We totally didn't deserve to win. I feel really bad for the Oregan St. fans. They really played their hearts out and oh that poor kicker. :( Saban better chew some butt out for sure. At least we may have found a starting qb though. But offensive line, there is none. And defense was hit and miss. We really better get it together before SEC play starts.

Desiree,
The movie that you are going to be in, you know who those 5 black starters beat in the Championship game don't you.....my Kentucky Wildcats!
Desiree, I hope that you knew that!!!
Anyway, we are real worried about that movie up here in the Bluegrass state. Our main concern is that they will cast us in a negative light with regard to race, especially our coach at the time Adolph Rupp. It was a great thing that happened and I think we would all agree that it was an important milestone in America, but the national media tends to really play up certain aspects of history to meet its own needs. Coach Rupp has been cast in the past in a light that was not really fair. One of the main advisors for the movie is a guy named Larry Conley who was a member of the Kentucky team (Rupp's Runts) at the time and he has said that he will do his best to make sure Kentucky and coach Rupp are given a fair shake.
You probably already knew this, but Ben Affleck is playing Texas Western's coach in the movie. Try to restrain yourself!
Later,
Dax
Desiree
09-07-2004, 07:34 AM
Ahh.. I didn't realize it was about the namesake of your basketball arena. Yikes, Yea, I know movies about things such as race do tend to put a negative light on people in that time. I hope they don't go that route with this movie. I think Affleck dropped out after all the Bennifer business and Josh Lucas replaced him. Which I'm not complaining in the least! He's not hard on the eyes thats for sure! Well I'll keep you posted on how the filming goes and all the famous folk I see. :) It seems Louisiana is getting alot of movie opportunities lately. When Monster's Ball was filming in and around the area, Chris saw Billy Bob and Angelina (when they were still an item).

Hey guys. I'm back revisiting my journal that I've all but abandoned. I'm not doing so well. I've still be exercising regularly, but my eating habits are back in the gutter. And I've really got to lay off the beer. I've been relaxing by having 1 or 2 a night. I know what I have to do and I've just got to do it. Less than a month to go to the wedding and I've not lost an ounce. In fact, I've gained. So here I am again. Will you have me back?
Dax: They cancelled the filming because of the hurricane a few months ago but when they did reschedule it, it was smack in the middle of my wedding shower (which was fantastic, btw!). So needless to say, I couldn't go. I really wanted to do it also. :(
In other news, Devyn just finished up Volleyball season at her school and just got asked to be a Ball Girl for the LSU Women's Basketball team! I think I'm more excited about it than her! They asked us to pick the games that we'd, er, SHE! (freudian slip there!) would be willing to work. Well I made several circles around the Tennessee vs. LSU game! hehehe Our girls will be on national tv several times this year, so if you watch closely enough for the girls who wipe the sweat off the court, you may just see Devyn!
I'm getting ready to go pound the pavement at the gym and then go tailgating for the football game. That's where my downfall has been alot lately. Too many chips and dips and desserts. I vow (again) that this will stop and one day I'll see 125 again.
Hope you all are doing well.

Hi everyone! Well since the wedding stuff has calmed down a bit I'm ready to get back in the swing of things. Although I have been exercising regularly, I haven't been eating right. So instead of losing weight, I've gained. But I'm ready to get back down to business and take it off. I am officially at my all time high of 196. And that was the last time that I weighed which was last week at the doctors office. It's hard for me to cross my legs now. I guess the thing that most set me off was looking at my wedding pictures. I hope you'll be able to see it. This is the one I'm referring to. I look pregnant.
So what am I going to do? Keep going to the gym, start watching what I eat and keep those calories under 1200 a day. No cheating. Exercising at least 30 minutes a day. Situps every day. I will find the time for me.
So that's it for now. Hope you all are doing well. I miss being here but am glad to be back.

Well to start the day off I'm about to go and boil a bunch of eggs then head to wal-mart to pick up some vitamins so I can start taking them again. The gym is closed today, so what I do, I"ll have to do it here at home.
Then of course, the LSU game comes on at 12:00 pm today. So I'll be hoping we can pull of this season with a victory. Oh Dev has to work tomorrow at the LSU / Tulane game! Well Yesterday went ok. Not as good as it could have been. I didn't get to the gym but I did about 20 sit-ups and squats. Foodwise I didn't do wonderfully either but I didn't eat until I got full. And in doing that I felt hungry all day though. But that must mean that I'm doing something right if I did at least cut back.
B- 1 pc. wheat toast
L- Fish Sticks
D- Spaghettio-O's
I did get all my water in though too.
So all in all not the best start but it is a start none the less!

Thanks Wilderness01!
Yesterday wasn't too great either, but I did keep the calories under 1200. Actually they were under 1000. Question, do I count today as another cheat free day? I didn't snack on anything unhealthy and still made it within my goals even though I had the evil Blueberry Pancakes?
B- Boiled Egg
L- Bowl of Jambalaya at the LSU game
D- Blueberry Pancakes (We went to Cracker Barrell and I confess, I can't go into that place and not order pancakes. They are my weakness).
Calorie count total according to fitday.com was 937. (Well that was after I added my excercise in also.)
Did Sit-ups and Squats also. Am going to the gym today if it kills me! :)
Oh, and I got 100 oz of water in too.

01-03-2005, 09:35 AM
Under 1200 calories is awesome. I was told by a trainer once that your calories should never be under 1200 or was it 1500? I can't remember. I will ask at the gym today. You are doing awesome. :flower1:

B- Boiled Egg
L- Large Dill Pickle and handful of baby carrots
S- Diced Peaches
D- Chicken and mashed potatoes
Oh did my weigh in at the gym also. I'm at 193.5. Which is down from what I was at the doctor 2 weeks ago. But as far as I'm concerned 193.5 will be my starting weight.

Hey Desiree - Welcome back!!!!
I have to chime in and say "Don't go too low on your calories!" You end up messing up your metabolism if you eat too little. Your body will start to shut down to conserve calories - NOT the result you want!! Keep your calories up around 1200. If you eat more fruits, veggies, low fat stuff, you'll be able to eat more quantity so that you won't feel so hungry. I fell into the over-processed foods trap and it did absolutely NO good! I know how tough it is with work and kids and exercise and extracurricular activites, but try to make the time to hit the store and stock up on carrots, broccoli, celery, yada, yada, yada..... Eevn the Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones frozen meals for lunch or a quick dinner. Alright, enough of the lecture!
I think you are going to succeed simply because you came back. You know what you need to do to lose these pounds, so stick with it girlie! :earboy2: We can all walk the walk together, okay?!
Again, welcome back! We are here for you! :grouphug:

I would spend no time thinking about your previous weight. Yesterday does not matter! The only thing you have control of right now is today. :)
I'm curious - how were you able to figure out the calorie content of the jambalaya & pancakes? I always worry about hidden fats and portion size when I eat out.
Desiree
01-04-2005, 06:48 PM
Sharon: It's always good to hear it from someone else! So no need to worry about the lecture. You're right! What I think is going on with the calories is that I'm logging everything onto FitDay and I'm also adding my exercising in as well so I think it's deducting the calories burned from the total calorie count maybe? Does anyone know if that's right?
TigerBear: As I mentioned above, I've been entering everything in to Fitday.com and it breaks everything down into specific items. And that's what it said for those 3 blueberry pancakes I ate and the Jambalaya so I'm going with it!
Just got back from the gym so that makes 2 times that I've been today! YAY! :flower1:
B- Nutrigrain Bar
L- 1/2 Chimichanga w/ lean beef, beans and ff cheese
D- Pork tenderloins w/ veggies and rice and gravy

Desiree - I just checked on my entries to Fitday.com. It doesn't look like they take the calories burned off your total eaten. I entered all my food from the previous day and then logged my exercise. The calorie count on the foods didn't change. So try to increase your calorie intake a little bit to 1200, okay??

Yesterday's food:
B- Nutrigrain bar
L- Chili with kidney beans
D- Chicken fingers (3 of them) with only a handful of fries and 2 slices of texas toast
I had to literally drag myself out of bed this morning to get to the gym, but I'm glad now that I did. I feel like my day is so much better already when I exercise early in the morning. That can't be a bad thing, right?! :cloud9:

Went to the gym after work and did 35 on the Elliptical and did my full weight training cycle. My back is just a bit sore this morning but not too bad.

Yesterday I did fairly well. My back is still a little sore but it really doesn't hurt bad, just a little annoying, nagging ache. It hasn't stopped me from cardio or sit-ups.
I got all my water in yesteday and did the Elliptical for 30 minutes. Yesterday's food:
B- Nutrigrain
L- Tuna Fish sandwich w/ 5 baby carrots
S- Another nutrigrain (I was really hungry yesterday for some reason)
D- 2 soft tacos
Well that's it! Off to start my first 32 oz of water! Have a great Thursday everyone!

Well didn't make it to the gym yesterday. My grandma is back in the hospital and I'm probably not going to make it to the gym today either. She's in ICU, originally for asthma but now they think she may have had a mild heart attack. I've got to go relieve my mom and aunt after work tonight. I'll try to squeeze in what I can here and there at the gym this weekend.
Yesterday's food:
B- Boiled Egg
L- Grilled Chicken Caesar
D- 3 chicken fingers and a handful of fries

Thanks everyone
I went to the gym and did the Elliptical for 35 minutes this morning then went up to the hosptial for visitation hours. She's looking much much better this morning! Her oxygen levels are up and the asthma seems to be in check. But she still is in ICU but hopefully later today they will move her into a room.
Weigh in this morning is 191. I was hoping to be under 190 but at least I am down another pound. So since being back on track since the 1st I'm down 2.5 pounds. Not as much as I had hoped but with the bloat fairy here last week and me not able to exercise the last 2 days, I'm not really surprised. And the last two nights in a row I've had fast food albiet in moderation, I'm still right at the 1200 mark in my calorie intake for each day.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Good morning everyone! I haven't been posting much as I should but I'm trying to hang in there! I spent most of the weekend on and off to the hospital. But I did manage to get to the gym twice since Friday. I think the real challenge is going to start when my grandma gets home from the hospital though. Before she gets home, I'm going to head over to her house and clean it from top to bottom. There is just layers of dust everywhere. She is a packrat so it'll take some time going through and organizing just to start the cleaning process but with her Asthma, I think anything would help at this point. And she is going to be needing alot of care from this point forward I think. She's not as independent as she used to be. We're thinking of a home health nurse to come and check on her often but I think she may need more help in other areas too (like help getting to the bathroom and getting her food). So we're just in the discussing and planning stages of figuring this out and how we will manage. All of us (grandma's two daughters, my aunt and my mom, and myself all work), so I think we're going to have to start making decisions on a few things. But I think a Home Health nurse is a step in the right direction.
And as I discovered today when I woke up that I'm starting to get a sore throat and feeling a bit icky. I'm so glad I managed to clean my house yesterday. I know I won't feel like doing that tonight. I will be heading to the gym depending on how I feel later on this afternoon.
Well that's about it for now. I'll try to hit a few journals in a bit!
Oh I forgot to mention, I'm going to sign up for a weight loss program at the Gym. They're holding a contest starting next Monday. I figure I could use all the incentives I can get to get me on the downward slide!
Hope you all have a great day!

Hi Desiree
:grouphug: Hugs to you and your family as you go through this difficult time. Maybe the sore throat is from inhaling the dust while cleaning yesterday. The gym challenge sounds great. Maybe it will give you something to focus on while making tough family decision. Keep up your great work, take good care of yourself while helping out!

Thanks everyone. I've been home sick the last 2 days but am feeling better now. So needless to say, I haven't been to the gym. I don't expect to go back today either, as I'm still not up to 100%.
Mammaw is still in the hospital. She's not eating, well if she does, it's barely. I was on the phone with my mom this morning and while she was talking to me mom noticed out the corner of her eye, that Mammaw spit her cereal back out of her mouth. She just chews and chews. We're not sure what's going on with that. We've missed the doctor for the last 3 days in a row. I haven't been up there since I've been sick but mom and Darlene have been alternating with mom being there mostly during the day and Darlene having to go to work. Mom needs to be working too but she does have more leave built up than Darlene. And just by the weird hours the doctors have been coming, they have been missing him. Mammaw has a physical therapist coming in once a day but she can barely do anything. If she wants her strength to come back she's got to have to eat something and try to get stronger if she wants to come home. Needless to say it's been a very trying week.
I'll try to check in when I can. I hope I haven't gained too much this week and that all my WISH buddies are doing well.

Desiree,
If anyone gets to see the MD you might want to ask about depression. My grandmother basically decided she wanted to die and tried to starve herself to death. They diagnosed it as depression which can be treated.
Good luck, I know how hard all this is. We went down it with my Father's mother and the big issue there was that he is an only child and neither my brother or I lived close. (We both live over 200 miles away!)

Morning Everyone!
Ok I'm now back on track I think. I am going to have to start my cheat free clippie over though. Since being sick I took the easy way out a couple of times and answered the Sonic craving. :earseek: But no more. I'm also going to sigh up with a weight loss program that starts today at the Y. I've got to go in today after work and get my body fat tested and weigh in and all. I guess I can use all the motivation I can get!
On the grandma front, things are still the same and she's still in the hospital. She's still not eating well. We're hoping the doctors tell us something soon about what to expect and if we can eventually get her to go home.
Dax: Congrats on that new clippie! And oh yea, well (I guess), congrats to your Wildcats who put a butt whoopin on our Tigers over the weekend. Ya'll can stop shooting those 3 pointers ANYTIME now! heh heh
Toystoryduo: Thanks. I am feeling much better now!
Sundie and Carol: Yea, I'm really beginning to think so too. I just don't think she realizes. She *thinks* she's eating just fine and has said so on a few occasions. She's said, "See look how good I ate today" when all she has mustered is a few nibbles of ice cream and 1/4 of a can of Boost. :(
Well I'm about to get started on my water and see what is going on here at work. Fun, fun. I hope to stop by a few journals today too. Y'all have a great day!

Desiree,
I wanted to tell you that on the local news here the Lady Dores were hanging their head in shame from the whooping the you Ladies put on them yesterday.
(Of course I still take Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols anyday. And you think your men's team is bad? Have you seen the UT mens team..... we have decided to go from football to Lady Vols Basketball and pretend we don't play men's basketball!)
Desiree
01-24-2005, 08:57 AM
Carol: That's a good strategy! I think I'll do the same. Football straight to Women's Bball, then on to Baseball and Softball. Our mens team is terrible this year! I think this may be John Brady's last year as head coach. Thank goodness for the Women's Team this year. Bring on Pat Summitt next month! That's going to be a great game!

I'm hoping I can do this. I'm pretty sure I can reach that goal even by April. We've got to go weigh in once a week and I guess I'll keep my weigh in day as Saturday.

Hi Dax and everyone!
I'm still around! Not doing so well dietwise though. Just started Dev on her normal softball team and we're heading today to go to tryouts for another 12 and under one that's a travel league during the summer. Ack! And on top of that (and depending on her grades) she wants to try acting lessons too. Needless to say it's going to be a busy next few months.
And my grandma is finally home from the hospital. She's on oxygen all the time now and has to use a walker. She can't be left alone anymore though. So for the time being, until a decision is reached, my mom, aunt and I are all rotating with being there for her. My aunt is the only one who got the FMLA leave so she has been taking off the most during the days to be with her.
Not that any of this is an excuse for not exercising. I know I could be finding the time to do it, I've just kinda let the ball drop on it. I am still around though and will try to check in more often.

Great to hear from you! I am sorry things aren't going so well with grandma. I'll pray for help in this matter! I know how it is to have a lot on your plate. I recently dropped out of my MBA program at school. I just didn't have enough hours in the week between work, school, family etc... so I made the choice that my family was first and if I want to go back in the future for a masters, I can always do that!
Well my Wildcats blew it today! Your Hoop Tigers have been playing well as late, probably saved Brady his job.

Very cool Dax!! That rocks! You'll do great! :cheer2:
I think I'm going to take another whack at Oprah's Boot Camp again. At least for the duration the camp, which is 12 weeks (January 13th will be 12 weeks). I already know that I'm only going to be able to do 20 minutes at the gym each morning since I have to get home and get the kiddo ready for school and me to work.
I just hope that I can find the motivation and strength to actually follow through with this. I've started and stopped this diet merry-go-round so often. For the last 6 months or so I've avoided this place like the plague. :guilty: But I am ready to get back on track now. :sunny:
Ok here's the dirty truth...
Left Arm 14”
Right Arm 14 ¼”
Bust 45”
Belly 46 ½”
Hips 50 ½
Left Thigh 27 ¾”
Right Thigh 28”
As you can tell, I'm pear shaped. Too much junk in the trunk! So I'm going to have to work hard and those sit-ups and squats. I've grown accustomed to those cokes and other sodas again. Well that stops now. As well as alcohol. I'm not a heavy drinker but I don't mind a beer now and then either. But I need to cut that out too.
I'm not sure if I am going to write down every meal or not here. I'll just play it by ear I think. I know what to eat and what not to eat and the main thing is portion control. I'm going to set a mini goal of 10 pounds gone forever by Thanksgiving and 30 by the end of my 12 week period on the Camp.
I'll post my starting weigh in after I get back from the gym. :sad2: I'm scared too look.

Ok well I managed (it was hard!!) to do 35 on the Elliptical yesterday and I did my weight workout Friday afternoon. OWWIEEEEEEEEE is all I can really say right now! I'm sore in so many places. I can't believe I let myself slip up in so many ways. Well I guess you have to start somewhere though. Oh another reason I'm sore is that I did squats for the first time in like 10 years I think.
I didn't eat so well yesterday at tailgating, but we did walk alot and since I did do the Elliptical earlier in the morning I hope that I walked alot of it off.
Hope everyone has a great day today!
Desiree
10-24-2005, 06:40 AM
Well I ate pretty good yesterday but I didn't make it out to the gym. We did do about 1 hour of heavy yardwork. We still had alot of limbs and debris that needed to be picked up from the hurricanes. So we managed that. I am going to the gym tonight and will do 35 on the elliptical and weights. I'd like to get back into the step aerobics again too.
I may start looking into getting some of the tapes to do some of my workouts at home. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking something along the lines of Pilates? Something that will give me a full body workout. Either that or the Boot Camp guy from VH1 has a workout dvd.
Anyway I hope everyone has a great day today. I'll try to check in on a few journals in a bit. There are so many new WISHers now! I have alot to catch up on!

Well I did fairly good yesterday. Got my strength training in yesterday and did 20 minutes around the track. Food was was good yesterday until I scarfed down 5 small pieces of pizza. I was starving by the time supper came around!
Today I'm off to a good start. No work today!! YAY! :cheer2: Devyn's school has parent/teacher conferences today and they don't have classes today. Chris was supposed to take off with her but he told me last night that he had to go into work today. DARN!
I've already been to the gym this morning. Did 35 minutes on the Elliptical and did 20 crunches and 20 squats. I may go back later and check out this program at the Y called "Keep It Moving". I never get to take advantage of some of these classes and such because they offer them at bad times. I wish they would offer more for people that actually work for a living. On the weekends would be perfect, but alas, no classes on the weekend other than an occasional Yoga. About to head to the kitchen and make some oatmeal and I've already got a jump start on my water. Yay! Today will be a good day!

Thanks Tracy and Chris for all your support!
Well for all the hard work that I've put in this week I haven't gained or lost anything at weigh in today. I did eat a hefty meal yesterday with larger portions that I had been eating and I know that most of this is probably muscle that is forming too. But I can't help but be a tad bit disappointed not to see a change in the scale.
Oh well, not much can be done other than to keep on, keepin' on I guess!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Desiree,
I am going to the Kentucky-Miss. State game tommorrow...today at Lexington. I have never seen Ky. play football in person so this should be interesting. It is homecoming so it will be a little extra better (is that grammatically correct?...it is in Kentucky!) Of course DW is a Miss. State grad and she claims she will cheer for MSU, but she knows nothing about sports.
How is Mike's new habitat? Send me a pic if you can sometime of it, I would like to see it!
Later,
Dax

Cool have fun at the game today!! I won't get to see my Tigers play today. My stupidhead best friend is having her baby shower today. Grr. I can't believe people still schedule events on Football game days! The nerve! :confused3 :teeth:
Anyway, Dax, check your profile, I sent you a link to see Mike's new habitat. I'll snap a few pics next time I'm there (next weekend) to send to you too. The pics aren't all that great on the website. You can't tell but the place is HUGE. It's really well done.
Anyway, off to a good start today. I went and did 35 on the Elliptical today and did my 25 minute weight workout. I'm going to start adding Step Aerobics and Pilates into the mix soon too. Managed to get to the grocery store earlier and Chris is in the kitchen cooking right now. I've got a few things I want to accomplish today after I go to the shower before I can settle down and watch the game though. I've got a mountain of laundry and a few house cleaning items to attend to. Other than that it's a good day!

Thanks for your good thoughts Tracy!!
Well.. I took a sneak peak at the scale this morning.... 3 pounds gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not going to actually classify it as 3 pounds just yet since my official weigh in day is Friday but it sure felt good to see a loss! Maybe I can squeeze in 2 more pounds and get another 5 pound clippie this week!
Chris and I went and bought a new George Foreman grill last night and then we came home and he grilled some chicken for us. I'm so glad. Chris has never been one to bake or grill chicken. He mainly likes it fried. That is a big step and the chicken was actually really yummy! I'm going to try to talk him into making some Speedies for us later in the week because I know he likes those. They are very yummy but take 3 days to marinate! :earseek:
I managed to get 30 minutes in this moring at the track for 1.73 miles at a brisk pace. That was really encouraging because prior I've only managed 3 laps in 30 minutes time and this morning I did 4 laps in 30 minutes. I must be doing something right!
Anyway, I'll try to hit a few journals in a bit. Hope everyone has a great day and Happy Halloween!! Try to stay away from the evil candy! Send me some willpower tonight!!!

We love our George Foreman grill and have found that it makes life so much easier. It has quickly found it's way to staying on the cabinet all the time because it is used so much.
What are speedies?
Desiree
10-31-2005, 12:33 PM
Speedies are wonderful, melt in your mouth, pieces of grilled chicken that are marinated with rosemary and a few other things for 3 days. I don't remember the exact ingredients but if you want, I'll pm the recipe to you (when I get home!). I'll at least post what all it is marinated with here to give you an idea.

Ok shin splints suck. Anyone have any suggestions on how to ease the pain? Remember that 1.73 mile I did yesterday in 30 minutes? Owie!!
Anyway here is the recipe for Speedies
Only feeds for 3 or 4 chicken breasts worth
1/3 cup of oil
1/2 cup of vinegar (Cider)
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of celery salt
1 teaspoon of basil
1 teaspoon of parsley
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon of crushed rosemary
Cut meat into cubes. Marinate the meat for 3 days.
(You may want to add some tabasco and Tony Cachieries to spice it up a bit)

Well, I feel 1000% better. I've been trying to get to the gym twice a day all week (only missed one afternoon) but I have been going every morning for 20 minutes on the Elliptical machine. I can't believe how motivated I am. I hope it keeps up. I try not to get too excited because I always think I'm setting myself up for disappointment. I took a sneak peak at the scale this morning after my work out and it said 205.5. I hope that rings true tomorrow on the official weigh in day, then I'll be able to collect a 5 pound clippie! Keep your fingers crossed!!
I've been watching what I've been eating and then literally cutting my meals in half. So something must be working!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks Dax! Well after a pretty good week eating-wise, I'm proud to say that I'm down 4 pounds! That's 9 total for those checking! I'm almost to Onederland! WOOHOOO!! :cheer2: :cheer2:
Last week was tough because we had a wedding shower to attend and tailgating on Saturday (that's always rough, it's easy to slip up and grab some chips and salsa and other junk). And then Friday, at work we ordered in and I did good and ordered a salad. I've also been hitting the gym every day this week even though I didn't feel like I did as good this week there as I had. Devyn started swimming lessons and I haven't been able to hardly get on the Elliptical at all. I feel that I do better when I'm on those machines versus walking that track - which is what I ended up doing while she was at her lessons.
Well I managed to get a few Christmas and birthday gifts taken care of last night and we got our groceries done for Thanksgiving so I did get alot accomplished on my day off yesterday. I did get to the gym too.
I think I'll hit a few journals before going to the Pancake Breakfast out at LSU and then straight to the gym to work those pancakes off!
Oh yea, today is a big game for us..... GEAUX TIGERS!

I did my full 35 on the elliptical yesterday but eating wasn't exactly OP. I didn't snack though but my choices could have been better. Today is a new day though.

Thanks Tracy, Chris and Dax!!
Well after a pretty rough week (TOM, multiple ball games) I still managed to loose 1 pound. Not too shabby! So I'm down 10 total! Yay! :cheer2: I can't wait til I can start wearing smaller clothes!
I think I'm going to do this weeks weigh in on Wednesday since the gym will be closed Thursday and Friday. Or maybe I should wait and do it on Saturday that way I'm accountable for Thanksgivng.
The good news is that Devyn is off this week and will be spending the week with her dad and stepmom while I'm at work. So I should be able to do workout twice a day, Monday through Wednesday. I'm hoping so that way I can boost things up a notch before the dreaded Thanksgiving. I am pretty geared up for it though. It's one of my favorite holidays. And as a pre-game test, we had our thansgiving dinner at work yesterday and I was very proud of myself. I stuck to several small portions, didn't go back for seconds and didn't get any desserts. Now mind you if I wanted any, I could have easily gone and got them but I am not even craving them! That is so unusual for me. I don't usually pass up anything even remotely related to chocolate or sugar.
Well it's cold outside so I'm about to go bundle up and hit the gym while Chris and Devyn are still asleep. Hopefully when I get back they'll still be asleep so I can get some stuff around the house done! Have a good day and a great weekend everyone!

Oh forgot to mention, that we went to watch the new Harry Potter movie last night. And only got a pickle and water! Of course, when I got home last night we were all starving since we had an early showtime so we ordered a couple pizzas. Baaad. I had 1/2 of a medium.

Alright Des,
There is something driving me crazy...who is Mal? and who did she/he shoot? I know one thing, it should have been my Wildcats. We played horribly against IOWA tonight. As you know, we don't play football in Kentucky and basketball really is all we have. Tubby needs to get them going or the worker productivity in the state will sink to all time lows! People get depressed even suicidal over these losses.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Dax

11-22-2005, 06:58 AM
haha ok. Mal is a Han Solo type from the short-lived tv series, Firefly and the movie that was just out called Serenity. It's a play on the whole "Han shot first" from Star Wars when Lucas edited the original movie when it was time to release the video and he changed it to Greedo shooting first. Anyway, the whole basis of Firefly/Serenity is a cast of miscreants in space. I tend to think of it as Star Wars if they would have followed Han Solo instead of Luke. It's kind of a space western. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend that you check it out.
I hear you over there about Basketball. I went to our game last night against Nicholls St. Of course we looked really good last night but we just played a silly inhouse school. We won by 50ish. It was a massacre. Now this Friday may be a different story when we play West Virginia. They're supposed to be really good this year. Hope you guys can rebound (ha!) and play good the rest of the year, except when y'all play us!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving yourself!

Thanks for the explanation! It had driven me crazy. Well we were able to get by West Virginia tonight. Played a little better. In case you don't know about the average Kentucky basketball fan...we are ready to jump off the cliff on losses and we are sure that we are just one bad performance from falling from the elite of the college basketball world!
Talk to you later!

Hey Des,
Well I just was asked if I wanted to volunteer to go work in Metarie, LA for storm recovery. DW and I thought long and hard about it, but just decided that since they didn't know for sure the departure date that I would pass this time. DW and I really wanted me to be here for Christmas and the holidays. Also, it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway since I know of at least two supv.'s who have more seniority than I do that have volunteered. Oh well, I guess maybe I'll have to catch you guys next trip!
Have a great week and weekend!

Sorry I haven't posted an update in a while guys. It's been insane around here! I've still been plugging away at the diet. And as of today I haven't had a soda in 45 days!
I had taken off Monday and Tuesday with the original intent of getting my Christmas shopping finished. Well Chris's clutch decided to start to go out over the weekend, so we opted to bring it into the shop for repair. Well, woudn't you know it, my car decided to break down Monday afternoon!! So once Chris's came out of the shop we have one working car at the moment. The rest of the week was spent doing the new car shopping thing. So Tuesday afternoon we decided on the Scion tc. The only problem is that we will have to contine to carpool for about 3 weeks until it comes in. Oh well, I just got my new car a bit sooner than planned.
Anyway, I'm back on the ball today with the gym. About to head over there once it opens.
I hope everyone is doing well and had a wonderful holiday!

Thanks for stopping by Tracy and Chris!
It's been a while since I've posted. Well I finally got my car last Tuesday so no more carpooling with anyone. I must admit I have been very lax on the gym. I can say that it was hard since I was having to rely on others for rides, but I could have gone and could have made a better effort at least. The bottom line is that I got lazy and complacent. And of course, now that I'm ready to start going back and getting on track with my eating, I hurt my back this morning. I am so angry!! But mainly with myself. I was doing so well!
Hopefully the advil will kick in and I'll be ok to do some light exercising later today.

Happy New Year to you too Dax!!
Well I'm back. This is my last day off before going back to work. It's going to be really hard to go back tomorrow. I've decided that I want to write down some goals I'd like to accomplish. I know I probably should start on these today but I find that I do much better with a routine to stick too. Weekends and holidays have always been hard for me to stay on target. That being said, I AM going to the gym today and I will drink 100 oz. of water today to get back on the right tract at least.
Anyway, here's my gameplan:
* I'm going to start journaling regularly again. Both here and at Fitday.com. That really helps to keep me accountable.
* I WILL exercise at least 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. No more excuses. I was doing so well and going so regularly before my car died. I have a new car now, so no more excuses.
* I will make a consious effort to watch what I eat and how I eat. I will cut my portions in half.
* No more sodas..again. I am so very mad at myself. I only let myself slack up on this rule just about 2 weeks ago. And once I started back, I've had no fewer than 3 cans of something a day. I also need to get rid of the alcohol in my house left over from New Years. That won't be too hard since we don't have much of it left. I just need to give it away or pour it down the sink.
* I will start things and finish them. Not just taking weight loss. I'm talking the challenges that are posted here and in real life too. I'm going to sign up to do the National Body Health Challenge on The Discovery Channels website and there is a local challenge that the State of Louisiana is funding. I'm also going to try to participate in one that the YMCA is putting on. I just registered for the Body Health Challenge so now I need to find out what is going on at the Y. I'll do that later when I go to work out.
Well that's a start at least. If I think of more I will come back and post them. I'm off to see if I can find an exercise challenge on WISH. I'm pretty scared of the scale at the gym, but I need to find out how bad things are and move on from there.

I've been doing pretty good with my eating this week but I haven't been able to make it to the gym due to this pesky cold. If my sinuses drain and I can start to breathe again I will go today and just take it easy though. Maybe a couple of leisurely strolls around the track as to not get too overheated. I'm also thinking of picking up the Biggest Loser Workout DVD. I may try that too.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

01-08-2006, 10:23 AM
Ok so while I was at Wal-Mart I picked up a brand new scale (I had been using the one at the Y) and I also got The Biggest Loser Workout.
Owwie! :scared1:
I did the easy one and it kicked me in the butt. I guess this tells me I have a long way to go. I did get 35 minutes in. A 5 minute warm up, a 20 minute light (ha!) cardio workout and a 10 minute cool down. I'm going to have to make sure I do this in the privacy of my own home because I also discovered that I can't do jumping jacks anymore. I'm so not-coordinated. I'm sure it was pretty funny to watch. I'm glad my cat can't talk!!
Other news, I'm feeling much better. Started on some meds from the doctor and my sinuses are draining finally.
Ok now the scale thing. I know I've been sick. And I know I haven't weighed in since the beginning of December (Bad, I know), but my new scale says 196.8. The last time I weighed in at the Y I was at 201. I'm not sure why the difference, expecially since I was expecting to weigh more than the 201. My eating habits have been horrible. I think I will go check the scale at the Y tomorrow morning and see how they both compare. If they are different, I'm taking the lower number!!!! :teeth: Of course, the scale at the Y is an actual real scale and the new one I bought is a digital. And of course, it could operator error in my case with the one at the gym.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Well I weighed in this morning (not my official day, but I've finally broken the barrier. I am 196.2 For the last 2 weeks it seems I had been stuck at 198.6 and it felt like it would never go any further down. Let's just hope those numbers stay that way or decrease by Friday. They should. I'm planning a pretty agressive week at the Y. Step Aerobics tonight, tomorrow Yoga, regular cardio and weights Wednesday, Thursday cardio, Friday Pilates and Saturday one of the water pilates programs. Oy. Busy week planned, but I'm looking forward to it.
I just wanted to say also how much I LOVE  The Biggest Loser Workout dvd.
Dax, Fantastic job on that 70 pound clippie! That gym must really be stepping it up a notch!
