We just found out that we are expecting our first child. We have been try without much luck for several years. I had a miscarrige at about 6 weeks back in December. Nixing any complications which I know I am not going to have this time ****pixie dust**** I'm almost certain that I will be 23 weeks along by our 4 night 9/7 cruise. Has anyone cruised that close to the cut off and how did your body react? I have a couple of concerns I always use the patch which I would not be able to use. I have heard that others have taken drammamine while pregnant but don't know that I would want to take any meds even if Dr said okay. Another concern I have is being around that many people carriers of things like the Norwalk and german measles which is a concern for anyone pregnant.
On the other side I know that this would be the last cruise we would be able to take for awhile and I don't want to disappoint my husband who is looking forward to going almost as much as he is about being a daddy. Changing the date earlier is not really an option work wise for either of us.

Congratulations!! And best of luck. You brought up some good points. I agree with you about the medicine. Plus, you'll probably need the money for the new baby room. There will be plenty of time for cruising later. And just think how much your new baby will love it. Of course you might want to wait a couple of years. Good luck in your decision.:D

Congrats!
I went on a cruise while pregnant about the same amt as you will be. I am prone to motion sickness but was told not to take anything. I used sea bands almost the whole time but there were still a few occassions where I felt ill. Near the beginning of the trip I felt a lot of motion in the theater at one end of the ship, and on a rough night I felt it on the top level of the dining room, at the other end. I got used to the motion in the theater, but had to leave the dining room. It was on the way home from Bermuda & the seas were choppy. Luckily this was just during the midnight buffet & not during dinner! I think it was where we were sitting also. Higher and further back than at dinner.
We had a great time, and I would cruise again while pregnant, but probably not in september, when storms are possible.
If you decide to reschedule, the nice thing about Disney is that they have childcare for babies. Most of the other cruiselines have nothing for children under 1 year.
About German measles, the ob will (should) check that you are immune to it. They may have already! That's not one I'd worry about. :)

I suggest that you talk to your OB/GYN as soon as possible and get his/her expert opinion. And it may depend upon how you progress over the next couple months -- pregnancy agrees with some people, not others.
If you do go, you'll be in the best part of your pregnancy: the first-trimester morning sickness should be gone for the most part, and you won't be so big yet that it's difficult to get around/sleep/breathe. Most people feel great and have plenty of energy during their second trimester.

Congratulations! That is wonderful news:D
I didn't go cruising at that stage, but I did take a few very rocky several hour ferry rides, as well as some long (16-30 hr.) train rides, and I had no problems, despite having been very nauseous until just a few weeks before. If you decide to go, I'd say you stand a good chance of doing well!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I know you two must be very excited! I myself was pregnant in November and had a miscarriage on December 12th. If you need anyone to talk to I have open ears. ;)
I myself am pregnant again I am getting ready to go on a cruise in 3 1/2 weeks and I will be 13 weeks. Boy am I excited! I am the same way as far as this will probably be the last cruise for a good while after the baby is born. If I were you I would keep your cruise reservation, you are with in the allowable weeks of pregnancy to cruise and I think you would have a great time.
I will have to fill you in on how I do with this cruise coming up.
I am going to try and get some back massages but have been told there are massage oils that us pregnant women can't use.
I myself am a little afraid of the sea sickness bit, but the last 4 cruises I went on I was fine, but being pregnant makes me wonder if this time will be different.
I have also been told that we can't eat a lot of fish while we are pregnant. I will be going back to my doctor on May 1st for another ultrasound and will ask about that. As you know the cruises have a lot of wonderful seafood and I would love to be able to eat it.
I have also been told by these DIS boards that snorkling is a great excursion for you are floating around and gives your belly a break. ;) So, I have booked two of those. One is at St. Maarten and the other is at St. John.
Hopefully, everything will turn out as I hope.
Keep in touch! Send me a PM sometime.
Hey I just realized you live really close to me! I live in Clearwater! Boy what a small world.:)

First Congrats! I too am on the 9/7 4 day Wonder. When I was pregnant with my first son in 96' I cruised in the middle of June and delivered a healthy 9 lb baby in Sept.(I think that was due to the huge amounts of food consumed on the cruise) I was on Celebrity to bermuda at the time and we did encounter VERY rough seas, but I was a lot better than everyone else on the cruise. The ship went through it's entire stock of saltines in the first 24 hours. I didn't take anything either and I am usually the one in the family that gets car sick. Of course I would see your ob/gyn first but I made out great and was actually a high risk pregnacy. And just remember that you can always cruise when the baby is little...disney is the best. Oh, yeah, I snorkeled while pregnant and it was wonderful...to feel weightless was a welcomed experience!

Congrats! We also had problems concieving and I can imagine how excited, but nervous, you and your husband probably are! YAY!
If you do decide to go ahead with the trip, make sure that you have trip insurance just in case something should happen after the 60 day mark and you have to cancel. It isn't likely that something would come up, but Pregnancy is such a change in your body that anything could happen! I'd also talk to your Ped. If there is any reason that you might be a high risk pregnancy, they may advise you against the trip.
We cruised with my best friend and her husband when SHE was 23 weeks and she had a great time. She had some heartburn problems and wasn't able to stay up real late at night to take advantage of the adult activities, but we all still had a blast. She didn't have any problems with sea sickness, so I can't help there.
Having said all this, I just wanted to say that we sailed on the 7-Day Western with our 10 month old last month, and it was so much fun! She was very cheap (under $200!), and she just loved the characters and all the action on the ship. I'm telling you this only because if, for some reason, you DO have to cancel your trip now, don't rule out scheduling it after the baby is born!
Good luck over the next nine months!

This happened to us too. We were planning on taking our new baby on the cruise in May 2001, but the "new baby" ended up being TRIPLETS. So we decided it wasn't going to work. We are taking them and their 7 year old brother in December 2003 when they are almost 3. We can't wait.

Let me chime in as a father...
My wife and I sailed November 2001 when she was about 20 weeks or so. She too had no medication and did not need it. She slept better than she did the whole rest of her pregnancy and she was able to do nearly everything she would have done otherwise.
She went snorkeling in St. John, took a land excursion on St. Martin, and swam at Castaway Cay.
For me, it was a blessing in that we got one more childless vacation and a respite from all the planning and preparation.
If you can afford it, go and don't think twice about it.

Laura,
I sent you a PM about prenatal massage and my phone # - please call and I'd be happy to answer any questions. I've worked with OB/GYNs and Nurse Midwives for 12 years and have assisted with more than 200 births.
Happy Gilmore,
Congratulations and I extend the same offer to you for Prenatal Massage.

That is wonderful news. But I have to say, DH and I have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive for 4 years now. If by some miracle I was ever to become pregnant, there is no way I would ever take ANY chances by being away from my Ob/gyn and hospital at any time. What if something happened and we were at sea? Or somewhere the medical care is less than adequate? Sure you can be medivacced to a hospital but time is of the essence with pregnancy emergencies. There is a reason that cruise lines have these cut offs and those reasons are even more important for high-risk pregnancies.
That said, do your research, speak with your doctor and do what you think is best. I just had to offer my 2 cents! :D

Haven't done a cruise while pregnant but I did do an 8 hour flight and a week in Hawaii when just about 23-24 weeks. It was wonderful because the 2nd stage of pregnancy is really great, the exhaustion and morning sickness are under control and you don't feeel huge yet.
I'd get the trip insurance, talk with your OB and plan on going unless you have any medical issues.
P.S. that's my 23-24 weeker on the right in the pic! He's been to Hawaii twice, one time "in Mommy's tummy" and when he was 3.

Speaking from an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse that I am, I would have to say - wait until the baby is born. 23-28 weeks is a pretty critical time for preterm labor and you would be stuck if something happened on the ship. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Congrats, and well wishes. I would check with DCL, being a travel agents in the past couple of years cruise lines have put a time limit cut off date when you can cruise now. This is due to any complications on board, heaven forbid.
