Hey gang, here's the question of the night...

When you visit Pleasure Island, where are your favorite places to have fun?

These are my Top 3, in no particular order:

1.) 8TRAX...I went in there for the first time on my latest trip, expecting it to be only 70s music. I had no idea they now played 80s music as well. Well, I took to the floor and got my boogie down to everything from Donna Summer to Dead Or Alive, from Run-DMC to Frankie Goes To Hollywood (It was "Relax", and I'll say it again...I think Disney management would cardiac if they knew what THAT song was about). The tourists were excellent...They looked like they came from the 70s and 80s. Big hair, wild clothes, shirts like Prince wore in the climax of "Purple Rain", I even saw a mullet up-close for the first time...I was in Heaven. I love 8TRAX! Even the design is cool...they have an area that looks like the V.I.P section of an elite disco from the 70s. Unfortunately, my Coke was diet and not Colombian (RIMSHOT).

2.) The Adventurer's Club...Perhaps it's better enjoyed when you're soused (I wouldn't know, I'm 20 years old and a teetotaler), but still, to pay a visit here is always great fun. The cast is always good to interact with, the shows are always entertaining and the artifacts are authentic and amazing.

3.) Comedy Warehouse...The comedy is good, but the design is better. Look around you and you're staring at 50 years easy of Disney history...Mock movie posters, old theme park signs, memorabilia from long-past rides, shows and shops. It's amazing. The cast is wonderful as well...They got some pretty good material out of my suggestion of Barbra Streisand in the "Cold People" category of their game "Shmeopardy" (name changed for legal reasons).

So, let's hear it, Disney Dudes and Dames...What are your favorite Pleasure Island attractions?

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff

I love Adventurer's Club. I could spend the entire evening there. It's fun and I love that it's a smoke free environment :) Then again, I'm way over 20 ;)

Take a wild guess!

Are there other clubs on Pleasure Island? I hadn't noticed.

And I've never been called a "Disney Dame" before... I don't know whether to think of that in the same context as the song from "South Pacific" that goes "There is nothing like a dame" or as a highfalutin title, like Dame Judi Dench has. I like the second option.

I like :

The Adventurers Club - because every show is different and soooo much fun - smoke free is good for me as well.

Comedy Club is always good for a laugh

So far the only "music" club I've really enjoyed is the Rock 'n' Roll Beach Club as I love watching the live acts.

Let me restructure this question...

It's apparent that Adventurers' Club is everyone's favorite, so let's modify the question to:

What are your favorite clubs on Pleasure Island that aren't the Adventurers' Club?

This could be a little more difficult, but surely you like others besides the AC (No offense to that club, because as stated, it's a fave of mine as well)...

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff

Fair enough! But it all falls under the theme of why I personally like the AC so much. Disney, to me, is about the "Magic," which I define as when I'm spending money, am I forgetting where I am and being transfered to a place where nothing in Central PA matters, I don't care about my stinking computer lab, and the world becomes different. I mean, living in a College town, I can go to a different dance club every night and need a month to do repeats. And I can go to Hershey park every weekend and ride rides. It's all about the "Magic," and in my mind, the AC is the only place that falls in that catagory. The R&R Beach Club is an incredible club, and the bands are fantastic. But I can say that about a couple places here. I also don't like most of the clubs there because I'm an old coot and just don't feel like shakin' it any more.

That said: The CW, because improv comedy is something I can't ge without traveling to a population center. and it's well done. Plus the layout of the club is intersting.

Second choice: The Jazz Club. No juke boxes, no cover bands, but really talented jazz pianists, usually. Good stuff.

Third, the AC.

Sorry, can't help myself!

Bring back the WildHorse Saloon!!! There are so many Country Music fans that visit Disney. I can't believe they pulled that one. Must have had low attendance....(?)

I'm not much of a "party person" and have never been fond of dance clubs. Dh and I loved the Comedy Warehouse, good, clean, "Whose Line is it Anyway" improv comedy. We also got a kick out of the Adventurers Club. I got to make Fly-Fishing Zeus anatomically correct :D :D

Almost forgot, I really enjoyed the Jazz Club. The singer and the band were great. DH and I just ordered drinks and relxed.

I think I am realizing why most people here aren't especially into the dance clubs...The kind of adults who vacation at Disney versus other more "adult" places tend to not be dance-till-you-drop partiers (this is just my opinion by the way). The dance clubs at PI were primarily filled with locals doing the club-hopping thing, which if I were into that I could just stay home and do it.

AC, CW and even the Jazz Club are much more "Disney" to me than the rest.

Pleasure Island Season Pass Holder from Ohio!!

#1 -- 8trax

#2 -- Manequins(sp)

#3 -- BET Soundstage

Honestly it really depends on the croud when you are there...and the night. During the week it is mostly business conference folks and the mood is geared toward 8trax. Cast member night is more geared to the former Crazy Horse - top 40 music - and Manequins. Weekends have vacationeers and locals and all the clubs are packed. The comedy club and AC are always a blast.

I've only been to PI once. We enjoyed AC and CW- I don't dance, so didn't have any interest in visiting any of the dance clubs-sorry.

In all the times I have been to WDW, I have never been to PI.

I usaully travel alone, and was not sure how it comfortable I would be in there by myself.

Would the Comedy Warehouse even make a reservation for 1???

Thanks in advance.

There are no reservations for any of the clubs on PI. You pay your ticket to get on the Island ($21.95 for a night, somewhere around $59 for a season pass, or use a "plus" option). Once you're in, you're in. The CW line starts forming about a half hour before a show. I've been in there alone.

I'd suggest trying PI as a solo. I've been quite comfortable. I'm not a 'dancer,' and spend most of my time either walking the street, as there are often great bands playing on the West End Stage, or in the Adventurer's Club. I've seen many the solo at the AC. I find it a unique experience to go alone rather than with my wife. I like "people watching." It is most definately an "in-season" sport at PI.

Pat,

Thanks for all the great info.
The way you described PI, it sounds like it will be right up my alley.

I will certainly make a point of going during my next trip in June.

Thanks, Paula

#2 - Comedy Warehouse
#3 - Jazz Club

(my #1 favorite goes without saying...)

Paula, I would most definitely do PI solo. We have met a couple of solos while in line at CW...you wait outside for a little while so there is plenty of time to strike up a conversation. :)

AC is great when your solo!! You can really get into playing along since you are not inhibited by others in your party. Be your self and join in the antics. The "characters" seem to pay as much attention to solos as they do couples and children in my experience. Had great time with the head in the box several years ago.

First... BET Soundstage has the best DJ, but small dance floor. We definitely had the best time at this club.

Second...Mannequins, the interior is fabulous, but the music needs some work.

Third...Motions, new music, but the crowd is a bit young.

How about getting off the island and going to Church Street? That's where the best clubs are! No comparison, and when you turn 21, I HIGHLY recommend you go!

#1 Adventureres Club, #2 Comedy Warehouse. I'll have to check out the Jazz Club (is it new?). All the rest are loud music and modern dancing, don't care for that any more.

DH and I have been to all of the PI clubs a few times. The only one that is truly Disney unique is the AC. The CC acts are super fun too, and about the only thing that separates it from the other zillion comedy clubs around the globe is that the humor is G to PG rated and not X. . The dance clubs are same old, same old. That being said, I LOVE the fact that it's new year's eve every night, and one of my all time favorite restaurants in all of WDW is Portabello Yacht Club. And yes, I do realize that this is more info than what you asked for :)

Look at my signature and *then* try to figure it out. ;)

The beauty of the Adventurers Club is that it's funny when you're sober, and absolutely hysterical when you're not. (Well, I find it absolutely hysterical when I'm sober, too.) :p

OK, I’ll admit it: I'm a big ol fan of Mannequins. What's not to love? (OK, sure, many of you will say "the loud, annoying music" or "those hipster wanna-be's). But I'd respond that where there's a revolving dance floor, there's bound to be fun, if only watching people try and get on and off of it, especially after a few cocktails. And I don't care how many times a night they do the corny dance routine to the disco version of Phantom Of The Opera... I'm rivited! OK, maybe not rivited, but it is kinda amusing.

All that said, I'd also admit to being a big ol' fan of The Adventurer's Club. My usual plan for a night on Pleasure Island: Hit the AC, catch a show or two, maybe head over the the Comedy warehouse, and then go to either Mannequiins or that other dancy kinda club (which isn't nearly as fun, what with not having a revolving floor or Phantom routines).

I have to jump on board as being a Mannaquins lover too... personal favorite. (OK, big techno music fan too, so sue me)

2: Jazz Club. No place like this where I am now, sadly, but I have a love affair with good Jazz and a martini, so this fits. I love to stop here after Illuminations for the last live set before going back to the hotel.

3. The AC. It's pretty neat. But I haven't quite spent enough time here, I think

Just my two cents-

I've never been to WDW, but my DH and neighbors insist we must go to PI. Okay, I can deal with that, but man, reading your descriptions here is making me feel old!

I am pretty far out of the club scene and noise for a long time gives me a headache. And I hate crowded clubs where there is nowhere to sit and people packed together. I think I'll need a couple martinis before I even start!

As for Wildhorse Saloon, it surprises me too that Disney has no country music club at WDW. Their label, Lyric Street, has more artists on it now than it ever has! But they do a sucky job when it comes to synergy.

But then again...for as pop as some of the Lyric Street artists have been lately, perhaps country means diddly squat to them. Their radio division has two full time country networks and they also distribute Bob Kingsley's countdown show. There is absolutely no cross promotion at all that includes radio.

What a lost opportunity.

I've only been when solo and only ventured in the comedy club and AC... so I can't really help on the survey- I enjoyed them both though.

However, I'm a little disturbed to hear that they USED to have a club for those that prefer C&W music and/or dancing (???) and now it's not there anymore. All the clubs there are not really "our thing" but we'd for sure be in that saloon you are talking about that isn't there now! *cry* No fair!

Aw, funny what you come across when you do a search. Hmmm...since the AC was knocked out it would have to be:

1. 8 Trax
2. CW
3. Jazz Club (whatever its called)

While we usually have a great time at both Adventurer's Club and The Jazz Company (except on nights when jazz-fusion is featured - can't get into it, man), my girl and I love going to Mannequins on Thursdays (employee night).

There, you can see seemingly mild-mannered folks who were selling ice cream, loading rides and dancing in the parades earlier in the day recreate a scene straight out of "Queer As Folk".

When we were there in the Spring, I'm pretty sure we were the only straight couple upstairs...not that there's anything wrong with that! We had a great time (and quite a few libations) - can't wait to go back in a few weeks!

1. Motion - This is our new favorite when we go now. The music is all very familiar TOP 40 dance stuff. So there generally isn't any puzzled looks on our faces as to what song is that. It does get a little crowded but it is fun.

2. 8 Traxx - We love it but they need a bigger dance floor.

3. BET - Love the music as well, but it definitely could be bigger.

We love the Adventurer's Club and no other. I didn't find the Comedy Club all that funny, and the rest are too loud plus DH won't dance, which is a buzz kill. The cigarette smoke was always revolting beyond belief. Has that cleared up since FL passed that anti-smoking-in-public-places law? I hope!!!

Cheers :)

Just an FYI. The Wildhourse was actually owned by Gaylord. I am not sure why it left Disney. However, Gaylord has been known to pull even some really dumb moves so I would not automatically lay the blame on Disney here!

Also, all Florida clubs are non-smoking now. The last time I was at the Jazz club there was a noticable difference.
