Anyone not do the water parks?

We are going for 7 days, actually 6 full days, coming and leaving on a Saturday. We are going in Oct. My boys are 9 and 6 and we will be travelling with my in laws. We were actually thinking about not going to a water park. Just getting the five day park hopper pass and possibly use another day to go to universal studios or sea world. We will be going to playmobile too which is somewhere close.

What do you think? Am I making a mistake?

We have done both -- water parks and no water parks. I think the water parks are fun, but the rest of Disney is more fun. We also enjoy our resort pools a lot, as well, so we don't always feel a need to do a water park. Whatever you decide, I think you will have a good time.

I've been to Disney about 5 or 6 times and never visited the water parks. I always felt that we stayed at a moderate so we had a slide and would rather use the resort pools.My last trip my kids now 12 and 7 said next time they'd like to do a water park.It's all a matter of preference.

Our first and last trip, we didnt do the water parks either. We figured, we had so much else to see, we would save it for a future trip. And the kids loved the hotel pool so much it was just as fun for them.

Husband, MIL, 9yr son and myself are staying in Oct for 6 nights at Wilderness Lodge. We are not planning on doing the waterparks either. We will have 5 day hoppers. The day of arrival we are planning on "resort day". My son is more interested in pools than waterparks/slides. We are then staying 3 nights at MILs near Vero Beach. We're planning on day trips to Sea World and Kennedy also.

I look at it this way, we have water parks up here...several actually, so we can go to them whenever. Disney is special and we don't know when we'll be able to afford to go again so even though my DS is disappointed, we will not be doing the water parks. I don't think he'll really mind once we're down there though.

Thanks for the replies. I am feeling the same way about having water parks near here. I feel much better about skipping them this time. Maybe when they are older if we get to go back.

I've done the water parks, but not recently. Personally, I don't care for water parks much anyway. The Disney water parks are much better than "normal" water parks, but in my opinion, the main parks are way better than other amusement parks than the water parks are better than other water parks. If it's not important to you, skip it. You'll have plenty to do.

I was at BB on Sunday and it looked great to me, I did not notice anything laying around or being dirty at all. I enjoy the waterparks just as much as the regular parks. TL has the best wave pool , plus the shark reef is part of addmission price. If I did not live in Orlando and did not go to disney every week maybe I would think differently about the waterparks.

I think this depends on how much your family likes to swim. We like to swim.

We did the beach (St Petes, 4 days), a resort with great slides (PO, 2 days) AND a water park (Typhoon Lagoon) this vacation. My kids loved all these, plus the pool at the hotel on the beach, plus the pool at Tropical Palms in Orlando, plus the kiddie pool at Tropical Palms, plus the quiet pool at PO, plus the water play area at Busch Gardens. They are all different kinds of swimming experiences, and I could never get my kids to agree to skip the waterpark and stay at a hotel pool instead. But after a day at Typhoon Lagoon we got back to Tropical Palms, and the kids wanted to go - what else - swimming in the pool.

If your kids like to swim, I'd say, ditch a park day and factor in a waterpark day. We found, after several days at parks, the mega-park experience all kind of starts to get a bit old. We broke up our park days with beach, waterpark and pool days.

It depends on where you are from, a little. My husband and I grew up on beautiful beaches, and Typhoon Lagoon was gross to us. The sand felt slimy and I could just imagine all the strange feel clopping though it. and it never dries out! Ughhh...... You could wear beach shoes, but I still didn't think much of it. Did you say you are staying at an AS? I heard their pools are very large and great. We are staying at AS Movies and look forward to the pools.

I have been to WDW MANY times and have yet to do the water parks. My oldest DD would like to try it next trip. My other DD's are just too young (IMHO)! My DH and oldest DD may go over to BB in July for half a day while I do something with my younger DD's.

I don't think you need to do the water parks. If you want to swim, you can use your resort pool. We've been to WDW 6 times and only went to the water parks once. To be honest, we don't even plan them into our schedule!

We have never been to a water park during our trips. We are considering going to one this time. Maybe we just don't know what we've been missing!! :smooth:

when the 5 oldest children were little ,we always planned water parks for the last days of trip,made them wear shirts (sunburn can ruin a vacation!!!) and only stayed a couple hrs,so we could watch fireworks or epcot show at night.Now the original 5 are young adults they like water parks and pleasure island at night .We have 2 ynger children now and stick to original game plan as in begining,it always works out and if we dont make wps,we try to stop and at least get a t-shirt from tl or bb,the cms usually let us run in to look at gift shop for 10 minutes and the little ones are happy with that.

Every time we plan a trip in the summer we start off saying we will go to the water parks but then when we start planning we never go. Two reasons, we have a nice waterpark here in town that we go to plus when we go to the beach we always spend one day there at the water park. We love doing the slides but how many times can you go down. A couple of times we start off saying were going to a waterpark and then we just take the money we put aside and we go to Sea World. I love Sea World and the kids get so much out of it!

Our kids are just 4 and 2, and they are happy enough with the resort pool. When they are older, if they want to go to the water parks, then we will, but like Beverly Lynn said, not until they are older and can do more.

I guess what you don't know you won't miss... I have gone twice, once not going to the water parks and once going, I had fun, but I kind of felt like I could have done that near home, at an amusement park. Disney is for Disney...LOL.. I wished I had gone to MK another day instead of the water park.

We're skipping the water parks since we'll have the grotto pool to keep us busy.
