View Full Version : Snowwark........Royal Botanical Gardens DISmeet *UPDATE* ~ Mid-June Date?

Dare we hope that we will see spring flowers soon??? This time last year, I think the garden centres were already starting to fill up with plants.
I like your idea of a Royal Botanical Gardens meet. When do you think would be a good time to go? I haven't been in years and forget all that they have there but Dh and I have said several times that we must go back sometime.
Anyone interested in wandering around all those beautiful gardens?

Julie, I'm certainly ready to start gardening, and now that Sammi brought some nice warm weather back with her, it won't be long. Tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous! :)
I'd love to get a meet together at the RBG. It has been years since I last visited the Tea House at the Rock Gardens, and I think that would be a lovely place for a meet. The Rock Garden Tea House doesn't open until June, but really, that's not far off.
Here's a link with all kinds of info and maps.
Royal Botanical Gardens ~ Hamilton~ (http://www.rbg.ca/)
Has anyone ever visited the Lilac Dell, while the lilacs are putting on their gorgeous display? The RBG has the largest variety of lilacs in the world, and people come from far away to see, and smell, this beautiful sight. :)

Light lunch at the Rock Gardens Tea House sound nice or the Turner Pavilion Tea House in the rose garden also serves pasteries! We could all have "Afternoon Tea". :)

I'd love to go, especially since I promised my parents I'd plant some flowers in the front yard (what was I thinking!) ... Unfortunately, I don't think I can get any extra time off before my trip ... and of course we're short-staffed as usual

Mid-June might be a nice time to go, lots of things in bloom, besides, I believe the Tea Houses don't open until June anyway.
Would that work out better for you, bunnyfoo :), and anyone else who would like to join us? :)

Mid-June sounds like a good time ~ any Saturday, (June 22 is the ZOO meet and June 15 is Father's Day) or Sunday June 29?

Just bumping this to keep it visible for a potential mid-June meet.
I was also thinking I might take a drive out to see the Lilacs sometime. Anyone else interested?

Any date set yet?
Probably could use a nice drive and partake in some Allergy inducing activities!LOL
This week it's Spring Cleaning, actually, make room for dining room set that I don't have room for but nobody wants to buy and I don;t want to give away! Find space for my computer, freezer and any other stuff that I used to keep at my mothers house!
Give me strength!

Hi Janet ~ Happy Spring Cleaning! I've got to do that too, hope to get rid of a lot of junk since our community wide clean-up is starting. Lots of people out rummaging through other people's cast-offs.
Anyone have any date suggestions for our RBG meet? The Tea Houses don't open until sometime in June.
I was also looking into the Lilac Festival, possibly May 25. There's info about it at the link Kim provided in an earlier post. Not sure if DH would go just for that but I was thinking of taking a drive out if the weather was nice.

Would a Saturday work better for everyone, or maybe Sunday the 8th?
I'll call the RBG tomorrow and check on the expected opening dates for the tea house, hours, if we need ressies....and all that jazz. :)

The Rock Garden Tea House is open now! :) They serve light lunch daily 11:30 - 3:00.

It's in a lovely setting, with (as you can see..lol) large windows overlooking the rock gardens.
Now, how about a date? :)

Kim, I've just been looking at the June RBG calendar and do you think the perenniel gardens will be a bit behind this year? Or should we go for the flowering bulbs and lilacs in May, since the Tea House is open?
Snowwark
05-10-2003, 06:06 AM
I could do the end of May, Julie, the 29th, 30th, or 31st. There is always something blooming! :)
It's always so difficult trying to pin down a date, isn't it? ;) :)
TimNDansMom
05-10-2003, 08:58 PM
Ohhh, I can't go those dates! It IS hard to pin down a date, Kim!
Is the weekend of June 7/8 still good for you? That would work for me, either day. Janet, Vicky? Anyone else who'd like to go for a walk among the gardens and have Afternoon Tea?
Snowwark
05-11-2003, 05:26 AM
June 7th or 8th are fine for me, Julie. :)
Anyone else? :) :)

I just asked Dh what he thought and he said probably the Sunday was better for him. So would Sunday June 8 be okay for everyone?

Thanks for bumping this Janet. :)
I will be solo, as it turns out, because Dh has to go to Ohio on business for a few days, which includes the weekend.
Where would be the best place to meet? The RBG site says that the main parking lot is on Spring Gardens Road. The shuttle bus schedule doesn't appear to be up on the website yet.
Kim, I think I might come via the 403 rather than drive to Guelph to get on Hwy 6 as suggested by the RBG web site. I'll have to check with Dh, to see which would be best route for me. Where would be the best place to exit from the 403? (I'm looking at the map provided with the RBG directions and can't determine whether there's an exit to Plains road, coming from Hamilton direction) I guess that would also depend on where we decide to meet since there's parking on both sides of the 403.
I have to drop Tim off at 11 o'clock so I should be able to be there around 12 ~ 12:15 going on the fact that it takes me 45 minutes to get to the mall. Does that sound about right, Kim?
Anyone else care to join us? :)
Snowwark
05-30-2003, 12:49 PM
Julie, I'm going to have to get DH to double check those directions for you. :)
I was thinking that since the Rock Garden Tea House only serves tea/light lunch from 11:30 - 3:00, that perhaps we should meet there, and then work off our lunch by touring the grounds. What do you think? Would 12:30 work?
Also, I noticed in yesterday's Spectator that the Iris and Peony Festival begins June 8th (Laking Garden), so the gardens may be even busier than usual.
:)

06-02-2003, 09:09 PM
12:30 sounds good for me, Kim.
From the RBG map it looks like there is parking across the road from the rock garden. Dh says that I CAN exit onto Hwy 6 N, coming from Hamilton direction. The ramp goes to the left. Does John agree? Then I would get on Plains Rd and head down to York Blvd to the Rock Garden. The map doesn't show exactly where the Tea House is located but I imagine there are signs.

Julie, John says your DH is absolutely correct!! :) The Rock Garden Tea House, as far as I understand is at the Rock Garden, which is shown on the map. :)

A dress code? Hmmm....never thought of that...and I was going to say yes....raincoats and umbrellas ..lol... but, according to Enviroment Canada's weather info (905 - 543 - 1136), the fog is supposed to lift this morning, and the rain may hold off until this evening!
I'm not getting dressed up Scratch, just regular duds! :)

Well, the rain held off until now! :)
Kathy, we went over to Laking Gardens after you left, but with the weather having been so cool, not many of the peonies and iris were open. I'm sure in another week, the garden would be full of colour!
It was very nice to see you, Scratch and her DD, and of course, Julie, again. :)
I think we're all quite gifted at turning lunch into a long, leisurely, chatty affair...lol..:)
I hope Julie and Janet make it home safe and sound! :)

and the rain held off until now.
DD must have walked thru some Catnip 'cause the cat went nuts when she took her shoes off!
I think Julie should have made it as long as the signs are properly posted to get her back onto the 403!
It was nice seeing you all again but too bad the weather had cooled off so much. Someone had asked about the rose garden but the driver had said not very many yet! Obviously Spring has not Sprung!
I think lunch might have turned into an early dinner if it had not cooled off!;)

Hi! I arrived back in Woodstock around 5:40, just enough time to pop into Zehrs for a few things in the pouring rain.
The rain started just as I got off the 403 and was heading into Woodstock and yes, I did find my way back with no problem! They could have had a couple more signs pointing the way, or maybe I just need one every 100ft or so to make sure I'm going the right way! ;)
It was fun sitting on the veranda chatting, even though it got a bit cool. As soon as I can get Tim off the other computer, which has the hook-up for the camera, I'll get Dan to download the pic I took of us this afternoon.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Janet, for bringing those pins back for me! It has been fun anticipating a "package" from Disney! :)
