Not to be really nosy or anything, I'm just trying to get an idea of somethings.
How much does the average trip to Disney World cost you? Also include, if you drive or fly (if you drive, do you stop at a hotel on the way there), how long you stay, what hotel(s) you stay at, and if you get any vacation packages.

$4000 for our last trip in September, 2002. We drove from Atlanta to Deland then after one night in a hotel and a day with my honey's family, we went to WDW. We spent 6 nights at ASMu for $49/nite. I bought a 5 day PHP from TDS before the rate hike almost caught me. My honey was technically still a FL resident, so we got her a play 4 days pass and a single park entry pass, which was cheaper than buying any other combo we could find. We spent 5 days in the parks and one night at PI. We ate on property during the stay at WDW including one order of pizza delivered to the room. We took a carriage ride at FW. We tipped the housekeepers daily. We drank lots of fluids in the parks. We bought lots of collectable goodies. We had the best vacation ever! And then we paid for the petsitter when we got home and bought our new Chihuahua, Athena with left over vacation money the next day. lol
We have about the same budget planned for our next trip. We think we should have about $4200 for our December trip. MVMCP, the hotel, and the tickets should all be paid for before we arrive. I love WDW! Mickey

We will most likely not spend $4000 but that is our budget. we will fly from Cinci to Orlando, rent a mini van, stay at Contemp. for 5 nights and AKL for 5 more. We got a great 7 day PH thru SOG and also a 2 day Universal pass. We eat at the park for every meal ( sit down) and we buy way more than we should. Last time we did it almost the same way ( stayed off site though) and only spent $3200. That included an ugly goofy statue for $200 and my beautiful pewter stein from Germany for another $200.

When Dh & I went (without the kids) 2 years ago for 4 days/3 nights we flew down and got Disney's cheapest package that includes Hoppers. The package was $1130, plane tickets were $500.00, the transfer from the aiport to Port Orleans Riverside and back was $100 (with tip) and for food & spending money we spent about $450. Total spent approx. $2630. And I think we got lots of bad deals:rolleyes: . I know booking separately is cheaper and I paid way too much for our plane tix because we booked our trip at the last minute & I didn't have time to shop around for a great deal.
When I took the kids alone (2 yrs ago, my best friend & her son were there too) I spent less. We did 4 days/3 nights ~ plane tix were $400 (for 3 of us), hotel was $260 (All Star Movies), we only went to 2 parks and both kids were free since they were so young $100 on tickets, $100 for transportation to & from the airport and I can't recall exactly how much I spent on food & shopping but around $300. Total spent ~ approx. $1160.
We are planning a trip in December for all 5 of us (me, DH, DS 5, DD 3 & DS 1) which I am trying to keep under $2500. We will be driving this time (from Ohio), straight thru on the way down and stopping over night on the return trip. Gas $200, cheapo hotel $45, 4 - 4 day park Hoppers (2 kiddos, 2 adults) $750, 6 nights at a hotel (undecided which one, but prob. All Stars or HIFS) $600, food & spending money $800. Guesstimated total $2395.
I love Disney but we don't have tons of money. $2500 for one vacation is a HUGE chunk of money to us, my DH doesn't even make that much in a month LOL. Wonder how he would feel if I told him it took him over a month of salary to pay for our trip:eek:

Last year we drove from the Chicago area down to WDW and back. We stopped in Chattanooga, TN our first night and then stayed at the Radisson Twin Towers at Universal our second night. When we drove home, we left WDW and stopped in White House, TN for the night and then made it home the next day. Total cost of gas and three nights hotel stays was $349 exactly.
We booked the Coronado Springs Resort for 6 days/7 nights this coming August with 7 day Park Hopper Plus tickets for me, my wife, and my DD6. Total cost was $2187.
So now we're at $2536.
We spent money on meals and souveniers and treats but I didn't keep track of that cash. We brought $1500 with us. But we also stayed in Daytona for four days on the beach after WDW. We still had $300+ when we came home.
I know we spent $121 for dinner at Fulton's Crab House for the three of us but otherwise I figure we would spend money at home for dinners (not every night out of course) and other meals anyway.
Hope this helps!

For the first time EVER I am spending under 1500, usually our trips run in the 3000 range.
My mother suggested we have a "reunion" in October. Camping!
So here's my breakdown for this October trip
Ft. Wilderness Campsite 6nights 220.00 (split with my sister and best friend) so figure 73.00 (for a WEEK!)
Tickets for me and 2 kids 616.00 (5 day park hoppers from Paramount)
Food Probably around 500.00 but that is a HIGH estimate as my kids usually don't eat full meals anyway.
Then our spending money which is wear we usually mess up...LOL
The total has my DH completely HAPPY! Which is good considering this is the 2nd trip this year ;)

We just got back and I haven't done gone through all the receipts yet, but I'll give you the estimate for our 11+ day trip from SW Michigan. We are a family of 4 -- both kids are late teens so you are looking at 4 adults essentially.
$700 3-day park hopper plus (used the plus at TL)
$550 9 nights Ft. Wilderness campsite + 4 rounds mini-golf
$150 2 nights hotel in Valdosta, GA & Hampton Inn Elizabethtown, KY
$120 Ohana restaurant
$70 Eagle Pines Golf
$120 Kennedy Space Center
$85 River Roost Lounge
$45 House of Blues
$80 2 meals at Crockett's Tavern
$250 Gasoline (used premium since we were towing camper)
$20 Misc Tolls
$230 Souveniers (mostly shirts/sweatshirts)
$30 Colombia House
$200 Misc meals/snacks
$60 Misc groceries
$140 Water Sprite Rentals (5 hrs total...wish we'd done LOS pkg)
$450 Approx pre-trip expenses (tires, repack of wheel bearings, oil-change, food, film, etc)
Approx $3,300
Equates to $75 per person, per day
We've done the trip for less money before ... this was the first year we did any golf or boat rentals, so that by itself added $220. I think we also ate out more ... we could have easily saved more money by eating at the campsite.
All in all, it was a good trip and, compared to trips when the kids were little and we were more strapped for cash, we basically felt that we were in a better position to spend a little extra.
My budget for 4 adults and 1 toddler under 2 is $4386 if I can't do better then rack rate at the FW Cabins. We are driving down from CT and will get 5 day PH's.
My 2004 trip plan is here: www.geocities.com/cynjendrejcak
on the first page click on the graphic at the bottom -
then on the next page go to disney then 2004 trip
For comparison my mom and I went in Feb 2002 - took an Amtrak sleeper car down w/towncar transfer, stayed at the ASMov (6nights), 5 day PH's, = $3812 ($1200 of this was souvenirs & other stuff like replacing camera etc)

Tale of Two Trips:
We have a delux plan and a budget plan. We've run both. Note that there's only me and DW. The quick tally:
June 2001:
BCV Seven nights
Two airfares from BWI to MCO
Cheap rental car
Tickets (2 Stars and Stripes passes, the Federal employee verison of the ultimate hopper)
Meals and take homes
Total: $3,200
Now, to show you what a little planning can do, our September trip last year, a throw-together "budget trip" went as follows:
AirTran from BWI to MCO: $250 (an awsome rate)
Best Western LBV six nights @ $30 per via Priceline, somewhere around $240.
Americar sub-compact rental: $87 for one week (for the record, don't abuse yourself by renting from Americar).
Parking at BWI, one week: $42
Gas costs for rental and drive from State College, PA due to great BWI rate: $25.
Meals and in-room food: $400
We took home about fifty dollars worth of "stuff."
Total: Approximately $1,000. And we felt we lived it up. Note: in June 2002 we bought PAP's in anticipation of the return trip, they'd probably have to be figured in there.
Regardless, there's a big spread there depending on your desires on a given trip.
Pat
We go to WDW several times a year, and as the kids got older, we were restricted to going during peak/holiday seasons(can you say NO AP Discounts?). We are a family of 6, and we usually have 2 rooms, so that's a budget killer right there. We bought into DVC so we could have 1 big room and to spread our room costs out over the year instead of all at once, so I will try to estimate the cost of accomodations based on what I pay monthly. My payment with dues is @$300 per month($3600 yearly), divided by 3 trips(average), so $1200 sounds reasonable for on-site accomodations. I also purchase AP's for everyone (I won't even tell DH what that costs each year), but we took a year off and I found a new way of spreading this cost out over a year and still always have them. I upgraded a 7-day hopper to an AP last June, so I will need to renew it in 2 months during our next trip. My daughters' AP's are good until Oct.,and will need to be renewed during our trip then, and youngest DD and DS have an AP good until Dec.(hoping for a trip then). It did require purchasing enough hoppers for those who did not have an AP for 2 trips, but I purchased 2 at a time in the months before the trips. My DH does not have an AP because he insists he will not need one this year(but I am saving $$ for June). I know it sounds kooky, but I could not see putting a $2000 charge on my credit card for 6 AP's at once. It is much easier for me to come up with $700 3 times a year. We drive down(@10 hours one-way), fill up in GA (cheaper gas), and spend @$120 a trip in gas. We also like having our own vehicle while at WDW(even if we can't find a parking space at the BW). We usually eat breakfast in the room, except for the occassional character breakfast, lunch is always sit-down in the parks, and dinner is a combination of counter, sit-down(must do 'Ohana's each trip), and in-room dinners(nothing fancy--pizza, spaghetti, salad, etc.) We average $125 a day for 6 days(@$750 a trip) including groceries for the room. I am mathematically challenged, but I estimate my cost to be @$2770 per trip, which is not too bad for on-site accomodations for 6 and flexible tickets, but is bad if you consider how much I spend in 3 trips:rolleyes: I hope this is not too much info!

Total costs for the 4 of the us, me, DH, DD, and DD who is only 2.
2 trips, 10 nights each trip.
Total cost for both trips approx. $10,000
This includes both trips:
PAP for 2 adults and 1 child - $1,300 (can't remember the exact amount?)
1 night Priceline
6 nights HIFS
5 nights Polynesian LV Concierge
5 nights BWV's 1 bedroom
3 nights AKL Concierge
Total hotel cost: $4,600
Food/Drink $2,000
Souviners and other extras and misc. - $1,000
Boarding our 2 dogs - $600
Travel to WDW from Illinois by car - $500

Here is our budget for our upcoming mid-May trip. Note that these costs are for 2 adults and 1 child, and we will be at WDW for 7 nights.
Airfare: $748.50
Resort (AKL standard at $139/night): $1165.00
Towncar Transfer: $80.00
Tickets (4 day PH w/1 plus option): $585.00
La Nouba: $229.00
Food (and Tips): $900.00
Tips (Mousekeeping, Towncar, etc): $60.00
Souvenirs/Misc: $200.00
TOTAL: $3967.50
So, basically $4K has been budgeted. We probably will not spend what we have allocated for food/souvenirs, so I imagine we might come out around $3700.00 for the trip. We also spent close to this amount for our last two trips (7 nights in early 12/99 at WL and 7 nights in early 12/01 at the Swan).

My trip last year for me and my 6 year old son were as follows:
Please note that I did a lot of shopping around and got the lowest possible prices:
6 nights at All Star Sports on the Fall Fantasy Package included UPH for $950.00 (included round trip transfers from MCO to hotel)
Round trip airfare from Dallas to Orlando (note to the person above who is from Plano - airfare from Dallas to Orlando is always high, don't know why but it is, the fares I found last September on Delta were only available for like 3 hours one day so I jumped on them, haven't seen airfares that low since, I check every day) - $310.00
$600 cash spending money.
I managed to do this trip for under $2,000 for the two of us which I thought was very good but I did a lot of research every day looking for lower airfares or discounts.
I've been trying to get together a trip for this September but haven't seen any airfares like last year, hoping they go down a bit in the next couple of months. I also like to travel off season to get better rates and no crowds or waiting in lines.

I will be traveling with DH and DD, who doesn't need airfare or tickets. We will be going to Boca, then Ft Myers, then WDW for 10 nights.
Airfare- free (used FF miles from work-with permission!)
Hotel - 942.60 AS Movies, DC discount (hoping for better AP discount)
Car - 295. Two weeks rental-Intermediate w/National DC discount. (hoping for better as time draws nearer)
Food - 500. reg meals + 300 character/sit down meals
Tickets- 750. reg AP's, will use for next trip (I hope!)
Souvenirs- 600. Just a guesstimate-will probably be more
Total for 10 days = 3387.60
I am hoping to shave about 300 off this with bigger hotel & car discounts. I am also doing reward programs, which I haven't factored in (will probably end up with 100-150 in certs & fast food certs), and aready have a gift cert for 25. for The Club Car in the Holiday Inn hotel-closeby. I know I'll probably have to spend 40. on cab fare to and from the airport, but that $ takes the place of the supermarket/gas/etc bills I'd have at home. If you include the hotels and meals while visiting in FL, before WDW, it is 290 more.
Good Luck!

A lot of it depends on the days you are flying out. We never leave on a Friday or Saturday. Also, try looking for any other airport that may be near. We are lucky and have 3 within the same amount of driving time so we have a lot of options.
AND, look at places like travelocity and then go straight to the airline web page and look for the same flight. We searched and got a rate of $220 per person at Expedia but went and got the same rate for $176 thru Delta direct. This is not the first time we did this.
You can also try Hotwire or Priceline...if you are flexible with times, etc. I cannot stand stop overs so this way would never work for me. We always fly straight thru.

This is what we paid in July 2002 (DH, DS 4, and myself). When we went in 2000, when DS was only 2 we spent 5500.00 (though a TA).
Rental Car-National (one week mid-size plus insurance) 358.00
Air (Southwest) 645.00
Room (POR) 8 days/7 nights (waterveiw room + UPH) 2055.00
Meals, Snacks, & Drinks 945.00
SeaWorld Tickets 140.00
Souvenirs 400.00
Cirque de Soleil 130.00
Refrigerator Rental (paid at time of check in) 85.00
TOTAL $4758.00
We are planning a trip this July (budgeting) and trying to spend substantially less. Granted we are now DVC Members so we won't have the ONE SHOT HOTEL EXPENSE (that saves us quite a bit right off the top)! And we are driving this time. I went on a lot of road trips when I was young and miss them. I want my son to experience this a little. I finally talked DH into at least trying it once!

Living on the west coast doesn't help those airfares either!!
dreaming for a WDW trip.
I would be very lucky to find Airfare of $250 with fees and taxs, for each of us,Dh DW[me]and Dd a teen but considered an Adult for a disney Vacation!! So that shoots up the cost.
Then 3 Adult tickets for WDW,Universal, and SW. Maybe Discovery Cove.
Rental car.
Hotel, they are about the same cost for on or offsite. Moderate or HIFS or Paridise Pier.
Food I'm diabitic 6 meals a day.
suvineers Dd saves $100. Dh $50. me $50.
I think thats all!! Estimate of costs $3500.00

Our last trip was in April 2001. For 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 4-9) we spent just over $5000.
Since we went with my parents, they paid for some meals, and we did also (for counter service meals). While we paid for the seven of us at the ice cream social and dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, as well as the Family Magic Tour, my parents paid for an Illuminations Cruise, HDDR, Fantasmic dinner package at Mama Melroses, late lunch at the Biergarten and b'fast at Cindy's. So that helped out. If we had done these without them, it would have probably added another $400 to our total.
Our total also included a character b'fast at Crystal Palace, and dinner at the RFC. It includes 3 nights at PO ($623 during very high season) and our exchange fee for our timeshare. Also, airfare from CA, a rental car for 10 days, parking, snacks, and counter service meals. The kids did the Pirate Cruise, and my 2 youngest did the WOnderland Tea Party. Our 7 day hopper plus tickets were $1307! I also bought t-shirts and outfits ahead of time at the Disney Store, as well as snacks from home for the plane. I counted EVERYTHING I used for our trip.
Including our travel days, we were gone 12 days. So, I spent $1080 per person, including airfare, lodging, meals, and souvenirs. Since we splurged on alot of special things, I don't think that's too bad.
We have another trip planned for August 2004. I am planning a tighter budget for that trip!

Well, here is the breakdown for our next trip (DH and I) in August:
Air/Southwest-$353.58 ($176.79 RT each)
Hotel: about $495 for 8 nights- 6N Marriott Downtown Disney (1 night @ $67/5 nights @ $20.03 + tax) 2N Wilderness Lodge OR Swan ($139 + tax)
Tickets: Have AP's already
Food: around $500
Transfers: $50 ($25 RT each on Mears) We may rent a car if we get a good rate
This makes no sense....last time we spent right at $8000 (family of 4) and stayed 8 days. We drive, so we don't have to pay airfare. I just broke it down and here's what I come up with:
Resort: 2500
Park tickets: 1200
Food/souveneirs/parking,etc: 4300 ???!!!
Gosh, that sounds like an awful lot for food, etc., but that's what we spent! We ate breakfast in the room every morning, counter service for lunch, and then a nice sit down dinner in the evening. We ate at San Angel Inn, Le Cellier, Teppanaki, Fulton's Crab House (twice), Rose and Crown, and Rainforest Cafe. Where the heck did the money go??!! We didn't spend much on souveneirs. We've figured we'll spend about the same on this next trip (actually probably more becuase we're now a family of 5). Seems like we should be able to cut down the food expenses, but I'm sure we'll break the bank on that again..somehow.

Tip for getting this rate: biddingfortravel.com
The downside is, you get whatever hotel priceline gives you. None of them are actually bad. On another trip I got the Hilton for $60 per night and was totally satisfied.

What would be the average price of a quick meal (counter service) at the Themeparks? We have 2 children ages 4 and 2 who usually are happy with either a hot dog, pizza or chicken nuggets.
Trying to budget our food expenses.
It's been a while since I've been and my husband has never been to DisneyWorld!
Thanks!!

Last time we did it almost the same way ( stayed off site though) and only spent $3200. That included an ugly goofy statue for $200 and my beautiful pewter stein from Germany for another $200.
Pardon me for questioning your math but how does all that break down?
$4000 sounds quite a bit on the low side especially since you're staying on site an the Comtemp and AKL for 10 nights.
We are in the process of getting a trip together for this November for 2 adults and 2 children.
I'm at $1000 in airfare and $810 for the accomodations (we stay off site. We're renting a 3 bedroom/2 bath home about 10 minutes from WDW).
The cost of the park tickets (5 days WDW, 2 days US/IOA and 1 day SW) is about $1700 (it's higher than normal because we are getting 2 APs for our trip in Oct 2004).
So as you can see, we're up to $3500 without food or other expenses (parking etc...)

week trip 6/3 to 6/10
925.00 two rooms at the all stars (FL resident rate)
300.00 mini van rental (as we are bringing dd and three friends)
100.00 gas - drive from key west to WDW
696.00 six play 4 tickets (116 each)
312.00 seaworld tix (51.95 for admission for the remaineder of '03)
---------
2333.00 total so far,
our mini van rental may be less.. dollar car rental is 199.00 for the week plus tax and probably an extra day to get everything loaded
now the biggie.... FOOD - it's myself, DH, DD 15 and Friend 17, Friend 12 and Friend 10 - two are pretty hearty eaters and two are not
I'm figuring per person -
breakfast 10
lunch 15
dinner 20 ... so a total of 45 per day per person for seven days, 1890.00 - each kid will have their own spending $$ - i'm kind of figuring breakfast in the room, counter lunch and a few sit down dinners
plus DH - dive quest 140.00 (non-negotiable)
so grand total $4,363.00
wow - i was figuring closer to 3,500 - can all six do food for a week on 1,000 ??? and not OD on poptarts and spagettiO's

This is what our trip cost:
Dates Feb. 27- March 8; 9 nights at the Contemporary, Shades of Green Rate ($66 a night, plus tax): $630
4 R/T tickets from Oregon to Orlando- $762 (Southwest Airlines)
1 night at Portland HoJo with free parking- $62
Tiffany Towncar ($5 coupon) $95 with tip
Groceries- $45
2 adult, 1 child 7 day park hopper plus passes. $866 (SoG discount)
Food- $800 (we had several meals paid for by our parents; we had budgeted $900)
Souveniers- $350
= about 3,600
Plus I spent probably around $200 on film, snacks, special treats for the plane, and $40 walkie talkies specifically for the trip...and then there was the $80 to get film developed! Yikes...and I just got my credit card bill last week...it wasn't pretty. But worth it!
Next time we go, I know we will spend far less on souveniers. We went a little crazy at the end! But we got GREAT deals on our room and airfare, so we went a little wild.

I really don't like to think about it! I think I've convinced DH to go for the AP's which will be $1900 for our family of five. He wants to stay at BC and we are going for 10 days so that is another $3K unless we get some kind of AP discount. We usually figure out $1K per person, with a 10 day trip probably a little more. He refuses to eat budget, has to sit down at least once per day. I don't usually regret the Disney money we spend but this trip is giving me little agitation!! I actually went back to work this year after 12 years as a SAHM so I would feel less guilt. Fortunately I adore my job so it has all been worthwhile.

We've actually gone expensive & cheap. When we took my inlaws a couple years ago, we paid for everything. 2 rooms at the Dolphin, 2 meals a day with priority seating, all sorts of souveniers, E-night, etc. Spent over $10,000.
However, last year, we camped in a tent at FW, used our AP's, cooked most meals & spent less than $1000. We already had all the camping gear, etc.
We always drive, takes us about 10 hours.
ETA: What we always laugh about is while we love the restaurants at Disney (well, many anyway), we actually had more fun on the cheap trip we took. We didn't really have anything in particular planned so everything was spur of the moment. Probably one of our best vacations.
