Well, as many of you know, it was Daylight Savings Time early Sunday morning. For those of you who didn't know, well then I hope you didn't get in trouble for being late for work today. So anyways, I know what a stickler the government is for your clocks to be accurate. I mean how else do you explain that we got a bunch of Navy guys monitoring a clock in Colorado? Well, so I was kind of worried that I might sleep through this whole clock setting ritual so I stayed up all night on Saturday just so I wouldn’t miss it. I know, a lot of you are probably wishing you would have thought to do this and I was tempted to call you to remind you but I couldn’t find phone book. So I am sitting there watching the clock as it approaches 2:00 AM and I start counting down 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Happy Clock Setting! I am not sure what was supposed to happen, there was no music, no confetti, no sparkling cider, nothing. I wandered around the house gathering up clocks and sure enough, not one of them changed. Well at first I was kind of worried that all my clocks were broken. So I did what anyone would do, I went over to the neighbor’s house to ask if their clocks got reset. After what seemed like forever, I finally got someone next door to answer (I am still not sure why all the lights were off at their house and it was dark). I will be the first one to admit that my neighbor is not the brightest bulb in the string of lights but I had to ask him 3 times if his clocks magically moved ahead an hour. He just stood there rubbing his eyes (I am guessing he had pixie dust in them but that is purely speculation). Finally he said, “We live in Arizona.” Well duh, I knew where we lived. What does he think I am stupid or something? I figured I was getting nowhere with that guy as all he kept saying was, “do you know what time it is?” Like that is not what I have been asking for the past 15 minutes. So I finally get home and decided to look on the Internet. It seems that Arizona doesn’t do Daylight Savings Time. As near as I can figure, some time in the past we must have had Ron Propeil as our governor since our state believes in the old adage, “set it and forget it” when it comes to clocks. So while all the rest of the free world hunted through their closets for the instructions on how to set their clocks, I had an hour of spare time. Not wanting to waste this, I did the following:
Tested all the smoke alarms to make sure the batteries worked (which incidently annoys your family at 2:20 AM)
Made 60 servings of Minute Rice with time to spare
Played the Minute Waltz 10 times each on 6 computers (you do the math)
Called directory assistance in New York to ask them how long a minute was there (I was going to do this 60 times but after 3 they quit answering the phone)
Called Time and tried to carry on a conversation with the lady on the other end (All she ever does is say the same thing over and over for a whole minute)
Sang "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" until Dog Dot Com howled so loud that Trina hit both of us with a size 9 Nike
Watched Back to the Future in Fast Forward to see how Doc Brown would sound if he were played by Alvin the Chipmunk
Called the police station to see if anyone had reported a missing hour
All in all, I figured I got about 45 minutes of enjoyment from the hour leaving me 15 minutes of fun that I plan to spread out for the next six months.
