I was looking at my lawn yesterday and it really thinned out over the winter. I know that core aeration will help it but I'm wondering whether too much of a good thing would end up being bad.

Our fertilizing program offers core aeration at a really reasonable price. They suggested that I wait, though, until fall so it can also be overseeded at the same time. I'm wondering whether I could go ahead and have it done once now and then again in the fall with the overseeding or would that be to stressful on the lawn?

Has anyone aerated more than once in a season? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

We've only aerated our lawn once during the year, cgcw, but I know that some people do do it twice. I think a lot depends on how badly compacted your soil is, what type of soil it is (I believe clay soil, like ours, is the worst), and what type of grass you have.

Here's a link with lots of info about lawn aeration.

Right Here! (http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/library/hort2/mf2130.pdf) :)

I hope it helps! :)

Thank you for that link Kim. That was an excellent, well written piece on the issue.

Very good info, Kim. Thanks for sharing the link. From what I read, it sounds safe enough to do in the spring and then the fall with the overseeding.

If it doesn't work, then I guess we'll be resodding next spring:eek: !
