The question has been, what are people wearing for the formal and semi-formal nights?
I'll likely wear a dark suit for formal night, and a grey suit for semi-formal. Judi says she is undecided yet, but will probably either wear a raw silk top / skirt / camisole or a silk dressy pants suit. She's not going to do black velvet on a cruise in the Carribean.
Second warm up question for Cruise Director: "Has this ship ever sunk?"

I didnt' think about THAT! *grin* Good point, although I tend to be cold all the time so if there's any a/c I'm going to need the velvet!
Hey, here's another question for the cruise director -
"I know it says formal dress, but why CAN'T I go in my speedo, it's MY vacation so I can do what I want, right?"

"That smokestack over there - is it venting an underwater volcano?"
Nikki,
Since it's formal, it will have to be the black speedo.

Hey Cap, did you see my question about whether yoo found a DCL Passporter? Dean says he has a spare one you can have!
I say we go for 2000 posts!!! Who's with me????
Nikki said: "Now THERE'S a picture for my mind's eye...DH standing in a speedo next to me in a nice gown for the Formal Night photo!! Who needs Chippendales?"
If we do this right, we could have LOTS of fun with digital photo creativity. Let's see, Formal Night photo plus a photo from the spa or similar, do a little digital cut and paste work. Think of the possibilities. :)

Dean, what color is your speedo? You had it off so fast last night, I couldn't tell!:hyper: Remember black = formal.
We're all going to look so pretty that we're going to need another pre-arraged meet just so we can see each other all dressed up! A formal group photo!
Nikki, red velvet works - but it is kinda Christmasy! I just go w/ black cause I can change the accessories and wear the same dress more than once. And, mines not velvet.
Dean and Gary, thanks for the Passporter notes. I supposedly have one on the way. It's probably on the same UPS truck as my documents, which appears to be far, far away.

*laughs @ Cap's suggestion*
You're a trouble maker, aren't you!! *grin*
Speaking of digital photos, you just reminded me I have to tote along our laptop so I can download our photos when we fill up the digital camera memory card...and I have a fun "digital album" program where I can add music and everything - I'll have to make one up from the trip and send it around once we get home!
Nooo...not thinking about getting home yet...!! Nevermind!
My cell phone also has a digital camera and digital video camera - I plan on taking and sending a few "Don't you wish you were here" photos in key west while we still have cell phone signal... *evil grin*
Red velvet = xmassy...true! Didn't think of THAT either! Hmm. Well, both friends are stunning tall blondes with impeccable taste in clothes, one a former model, so I'll have to see what else they have hiding in there from their "before I had kids and can't dress like this" days...and if they don't have anything I like or that fits my "after I had kids" figure, I do have a long black dress with spaghetti straps and a throw to go around my shoulders, with embroidery on the front...that'd work too!

*grin* Apparently with all our talk of hot tub parties and speedos, we'd all be better off on this line:
Windjammer Barefoot Cruises
Formal:
Men -- Black bathing suit and matching sandals. T-shirt is OK, but may be too formal.
Women -- White bathing suits, matching sandals.
Semi-formal:
Men -- Any color bathing suit.
Women -- Any color bathing suit.
Casual:
Men --
Women --

Hey, I can't wear the black speedo - what if someone else shows up wearing the very same thing? Oh, I'd just die.....
Offer is now open to anyone else. I do have an extra passporter if anyone needs one. Just email or PM. First come, first served.

OK Team, I'm going to give this one more try today. A question you could ask to warm up the Cruise Director: "Does the crew sleep onboard?"

Hello everyone... I have been rolling on the floor laughing at all of your posts today! Especially Cap's definition of a toque. I just got a lesson from our USA friends Gary and Gail who said that you call a "toque" a "ski cap"... If Gary can't get the hats, maybe we could bring some lime green toques... they would look really good with the black speedos for formal night...
I like the idea of a group photo on formal night, too...

Hello again... I forgot to mention about the formalwear that I am wearing a sparkly long dress (kind of Christmas party style) for formal night and an LBD (little black dress) for semi-formal night... Hmmm - Here's a thought... if a little black dress is called an LBD, then is a little black speedo called an LBS????

Hi everyone!
Thanks for letting me know I was missed. I love computers but when they go down... that's another matter entirely!
As for Capt. Marvin's, Karyn, I found 2 willing family members, aka stingray food :jester: :scared: ::yes:: people, and they want to do the half day one with me. I emailed Capt. Marvins' last night and they said they would try to get me on the same boat as the other Disney cruisers. That said, I would like to do the afternoon one since I would like to have a lazy morning instead of having to rush around with breakfast and getting to the tender this time:hyper: I will do the half day instead of the short trip and when I emailed them to ask, they did say that they go to the shallow area of the sandbar instead of the deep area where it's hard to get to the stingrays. I'm glad, but I will make sure to take my MAJOR sunscreen this time! That means wearing a black t shirt! A 2nd degree burn isn't my idea of fun:sunny: :bitelip:  nor is being stuck in a sarong for 3 days because I couldn't bear clothes touching the blisters. It's spf 1,000,000 for me::yes::
Thanks for telling me about the pre-cruise ressie thing. It makes sense now.
Have a happy night, I'm going to see if I can sleep this time. Too many days of fun with my son :groom: :bride: and his future bride. What a cute couple they make! ttfn, Renae

Karyn,
Here's an idea for you. When you want to pack for the cruise instead of for the big move, just think that if you pack for the cruise now, you won't have to go through 20 boxes to find what you need for the cruise:cool2: Now, how's that for a slick excuse?
I've been where you are, and I'm sending you some pixie dust to get it all done while you are online... hope it helps:wizard:

I have fond memories of opening weekend pheasant hunting in the Avon area as that's where my mom's family is from. I loved the Fri. night football games and the fun Sat. nights after the first day of hunting. Unfortunately haven't been hunting for a while . How's it been?
Anyway, everyone have a great trip and tell Mickey we'll see him on 2/21/04.

Hi Everyone-
I have to say that I read the posts every morning and I had 4 pages to read today!!!
I just had to comment on the formal nights-- I can't wait to dress up and get an updo hairstyle on board! In high school I was shy and never went to Prom or homecoming and this is my chance to really get all dressed up! I'm not putting on airs because I want to have fun!!! I can't wait to get a picture of all 15 of us in our finest! I got 2 long dresses on clearance after prom last year, because we have been planning this for over a year! They are black and sparkly, so I guess we will all match.
We never go out to anywhere that I could wear a long dress-- so they are definitley cruise dresses!
See you all real soon!

Such a great day here on our thread yesterday! This is the most fun group of cruisers anywhere!
Renae, I think for the 1/2 day the only option for us is the morning one. The Magic leaves the port fairly early and I hadn't figured that the pm one would work. Let me know what you find out. I know that we didn't get back till about 1:30 when we did the morning sail last time. Anybody know when we're scheduled to depart from Grand Cayman? I'll be joining you w/ the super-duper SPF, no time for a primer tan this year.
Gary, how early do you have to get off the ship to get a hammock at Serenity Bay? I really want to snag one of those!
Nikki, I guess you finally got that deep freeze that went thru here a couple days ago. We'll be hovering around freezing today, tho it's 23 now.
Renae, I've been putting cruise stuff in my closet anytime I find something I'll need. So really, there's no worries about packing the wrong stuff - sigh, far too organized! Next week after I finally surprise Jill w/ the cruise docs, I'll be able to be more open about it. Oh, and I think blue velvet is nice. I think it's nice that we're doing this in winter and we can wear velvet! I'm thinking about bringing a mostly red velvet, beaded and patchwork duster to wear over my black (non-velvet) dress. I had thought is was too wintery, but it sounds like I will fit right in!
So, gang, how many posts can we do today? Cap, have you refigured our potential final number?
Well, there are 5 people coming over today to help w/ getting ready for the moving sale! So I'd better make some coffee!
Have a great one!

No bad Walmart comments from me, grandma_x2. It's like my home away from home because you can always find my wife there looking for the great bargains.
Wow, all of these attractive ladies talking about getting all decked out for a formal picture. Might even remove the frown from a "Grumpy" old man!
Nice to see you back, Jedokids, we've missed you. We started an inventory last nite of what we have and what we need yet so we'll be working on that this weekend. Just three weeks from today and I'll be in Orlando ready to enjoy.

Surprise day for Jill is Friday or Saturday. I'll let you know!
Ok, departure from Grand Cayman at 5:30 last tender out 4:30 - can't risk the afternoon Stingray City w/ Capt. Marvins. We'll be doing the morning 1/2 day trip.

Ya know...I'll never badmouth WalMart, or Target, or any discount place!! My mom works at Macy's, in the kids dept, so my kids are always in the latest stuff, but I get all MY stuff at Target, with WalMart being second in line for my shopping trips! They have some NICE stuff, and I personally love the brands there...I for some reason have a jammie and a swimsuit fetish - I could never have enough of either - and let me tell you, WalMart has the best "fun" selection of comfy but cute jammies!

I talked to my mother-in-law about the whole dressing up thing - as a TA and major cruise veteran, she was HORRIFIED at the responses like "it's my vacation.." - and she said that other than the RCCL she has NEVER seen a cruise ship that does not enforce the dress codes to some extent. She guesses it's because of the # of little kids. Ah well, I'm getting dolled up and like jedokids, this is MY prom (never went - had total facial reconstruction surgery fall of senior year in high school - talk about high school angst!) And THIS time I have a very handsome date to show off! Whoo hoo!

Airbusdrvr - North Carolina to Orlando isn't TOO bad, is it? We did it with a 1 and 3 yr old, Mass to Orlando is like 22 hours...and DH used to do it all the time when he went to culinary school in RI and his parents still lived in Orlando. That's where he spent HIS high school years, living in Orlando and working for Disney...so he got to spend many a teenage night hanging out in the parks. SO not fair!

Gary, I've cleaned out my mailbox so I do not have your address any longer. I had planned on posting the list here after lunch anyway but had a couple of updates to include. And, since I was just hanging out listening to some head-banging music, I hadn't added them yet. http://emoticons4u.informationalot.com/cool/269.gif
Dean - nice lime green hat for Grumpy. Do they call that a "toque" in Canada?
Judi and I will be at BoardWalk Villas for Wed, Thurs, Friday nights.
Still no docs. Still Winter here - car said 15 F when I was driving about 11:00 AM.
I'll reevaluate the post count / potential at the end of the day. We're doing really well this week, but I have to factor in a slow down the week prior to the cruise, as some people will be in transit or at hotels and likely won't check in as often.
I talked to our friend Jeannie this morning. She is wearing a long dressy dress for Formal and John will be told to wear a black suit.
Another question to ask on board - perhaps the head server: "What do they do with the ice carvings after they melt?"
Have a great day all.

PJ night sounds like fun, don't the kids get a "sleepover" of sorts like that? Ya know, at my kids school they are doing a week of fun stuff next week - one day is "crazy hair day", one day is "career day" where they dress in what they want to be, one day (Friday) is pj day, where they go to school in their pjs and can change into slippers at school for the whole day.
We should have pj night! All of us change into pjs and go to the clubs.
..
No wait. Someone might think we don't get out much... :teeth:
Karyn, I'm a definite victim of the Jaws generation - that movie scarred me for life, I'm afraid, and to this day if it doesn't have a concrete bottom, I'm scared to death!! I'm a wimp. *grin* The funny part? DD is SO into horror movies so I had her watch it, with her friends at a sleepover. You'd have thought it was a comedy, they laughed so hard and told me I was silly to be scared by it!

I totally understand fear of animals, bees are my biggest phobia (one reason for cruises, there are no bees at sea) but stingrays have no bones, no teeth, and don't sting unless you step on them:teeth: That said, I would have a hard time with them if I wasn't so facinated! The most interesting thing I encountered my first time at Stingray City was how something can be agressive trying to get the food from our hands when they have no hard body parts to push at you with! Interesting feeling::yes:: I have to remember to put fish juice on me to get that stingray hickie someone was talking about months ago. that could be really cool:hyper: I can see myself explaining that one to my boss, "The stingray made that mark, honest" He would laugh himself silly, at least it's not my mom:o I doubt she'd believe me any more...
I'm going to do the morning one, so when I do my ressies later today I'll just tell them I'm with the Disney group. If any of you are doing it, you can tell Capt. Marvin's the same thing and we will be together! Don't forget to take an underwater camera or two!!! ta ta,:wave2: Renae:wave2:

*grin* I know it's silly...I can handle some things fine and other things just make me want to dance around in a circle flapping my arms like a chicken yelling "eww eww eww!!" - and most sea creatures do that for me....but you'd have laughed your butt off the other day at me when I went to take care of my son's hermit crabs...here...I'll cut and paste what I wrote on one of my other boards, to make you all smile -
The continuing adventures of Seashell and Typhoon
My son has 2 hermit crabs. Typhoon and Seashell. Typhoon is actually Typhoon 2, because Typhoon 1 died pretty much within a day or two of us bringing him home. His little legless body and shell are in a cup in the garage, waiting for spring thaw so he can be buried. Apparently when hermit crabs stress out, they lose their legs.
...
Thank god I'm not a hermit crab, or I'd have a real problem getting around apparently.
Well anyhow, we got 2 more. NO, we got 3 more...one was my daughter's, and THAT ONE'S legs fell off and he died.
In the foodbowl.
Joy.
So anyhow, back to Typhoon and Seashell - did you know that hermit crabs like to climb and play? Well Seashell's favorite game is to climb to the top of the little habitat and cling to the roof, without my being aware of it.
So I take off the top to feed them and to spritz them (they need spritzing...it's like an artificial rain forest...I feel like God...it helps...my therapist says this is good...well not really, but EVERYONE needs to feel like God, right?...*ahem* ) and I don't see Seashell...then I touch him...and drop the top and scream like a little girl and my children giggle their butts off...
...
SO anyhow...Typhoon likes to climb the wire wall on the back of the habitat, and cling there. Upside down. Apparently he likes all his little crabbie blood rushing to those bulbous eyes that pass as his head, I don't know. So Typhoon has a new trick. He likes to climb to the top and then go BEHIND the wire mesh so that if he falls he'll be trapped like the little crabbie he is between the mesh and the wall.
So I poked him until he let go - you have to poke, or you will yank the little leggies off, and then we all know what happens...
*insert appropriate funereal type music here*
Then I picked him up and put him on his nifty keen glow in the dark sand...and spritzed (see above: re: god complex) and closed it up...oh...AFTER I used scotch tape to make the wire mesh stick to the wall better to avoid the trap o'death I mentioned before.
So the freshly spritzed crabbies are all happy and start frolicking...and what does Typhoon do? Besides try to climb on top of his brother/sister/fellow crabbie? (Do NOT ask how to tell if it's a girl or a boy...I'm still recovering from THAT one) He climbs the stupid mesh wall and tries to pull the scotch tape off!
I kid you not!
The crabbie has a death wish and/or wants to imitate Houdini apparently!
...
That's it. I'm done crab sitting for today. I need a beer, and Typhoon needs to figure out some crabbie physics...*sigh*
Of course this means that we'll be doing a seashell hunt on the beaches for future crabbie homes!! Any and all donations appreciated! *grin*

Dean,
Great job on that list! It's amazing how our little group has grown! On our last cruise in Oct. we had about the same number of dis'ers, and people were asking us what our lime green name tags meant and how to join a group like that. It was so much fun getting to meet all the people we had talked to for months online. We are going to have more fun than anyone because we already have friends onboard. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I'll see if I can find it this weekend. But, in a town of only 700, movies aren't too easily found. Another big adjustment in coming here from Dallas, Texas!
Have a great weekend, yawl!
I've got my docs in my hand! They snuck into the house.
Judi went to run some errands and get her hair cut at friend Jeannies. She came back with the docs. How? It turns out that our TA and fellow cruisemate, Kathy, had the next hair appointment with Jeannie, and had brought our docs, as well as John and Jeannies. Judi and Jeannie have known they were coming this way for two days, but didn't tell me. All this time I've been oogling UPS trucks going by.
Dean - list update - we're now in Stateroom 6074. Great job on the list. Thanks very much.
? Do the movies on the tv come in by satellite or cable?
Well, the sun is over the yard arm somewhere, so I think I'll have a drink and study the docs package. It's 11 F outside, too cold to do much else. I'm out of the little umbrella's so will have to drink without.
Today's thread discussion has included talk about PJs.
This is an excerpt from today's Wall Street Journal:
Nightlife, With Nighties
Pajama Parties Catch On
With Women, Retailers;
Snoring at the Sleepover
By LAUREN LIPTON
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
It was a birthday sleepover with all the classic pajama-party touches, from sinful snacks like ice cream to guests doing each others' nails and giggling late into the night. Nobody worried about homework, though, since the birthday girl was turning 40 and all the guests were grown-ups. "It was a little odd," says Deborah Gavett, one of the guests. "But we definitely bonded."
These days, some grown-ups are staying in and asking their friends over to gab, and even sleep over, in updated versions of the childhood pajama party. Partly it's a case of people looking for a new party theme, with pajama get-togethers adding a retro touch. But marketers sense opportunity too, with sleepwear makers, cosmetics companies and event planners catering to PJ parties for the over-18 crowd.
A PJ party would be in style.

Randy,
We are waiting until the rest of the 2005 schedule comes out. I am really hoping there is going to be a repositioning cruise through the Panama Canal. This is something I've wanted to do for years.
It would be great if the rumored February announcement was done by Feb 6, so we could find out and book on the cruise.
Also, our TA is going to be on the cruise with us, so we'll be talking with her. We booked this cruise on board in 2003, but not through TA. when we talked to her, she was able to get us a good deal via a Group Rate.

Cheers! No parties for me tonight, tho a little wine might not be a bad idea.
Karyn
Renae,
There have been rumors that one of the Disney ships will be repositioned in 2005 to the West Coast to support DisneyLand's 50th anniversary. The two ships are Panamax size, so they will fit through the canal.
No seven day cruise dates have been released beyond May, 2005. Rumors say there will be an announcement in February, 2004.
There is nothing definite that I am aware of, but some of us are just hoping for an announcement.
Team, we're at 1084 posts in the thread. We have 20 days to go, so should make our 1500 goal, if we keep up the conversations and post three times / day, even allowing for some drop off in the last week.
New real question - does anyone know if you can get club soda in a bottle from room service, so it won't just be a glass of flat soda when it arrives? If not, I'll be the guy with the case of club soda as a carryon.

Cap,
Thanks for the interesting news! I haven't heard a thing about this, and being frequent cruisers, I would have thought we would, but it would sure be interesting... I've been dying to do an alaskan cruise or one to Hawaii, but didn't want to downgrade to another cruise line. I have heard from reliable sources that another ship is in the shipyard, but no dates as to when it will be finished, however. It is supposed to go out of either L.A. to Hawaii (just think of all those sea days) or Seattle or Vancouver to Alaska. That could also be for Disneyland's 50th, so we shall see! Interesting either way, hmmm?:hyper: One thing I do know is that if the ships move, I won't be far behind with my ressies!

The PCs in the Internet lounge were just terminals, with no disk or CD drives. I'm told that the CM on duty at the Internet Cafe may be able to help you upload a picture, but there are no guarantees.
I'm bringing my laptop because I'm addicted to it. Also can put my camera memory chip in the laptop to offload pictures.
There is no legal way to connect your laptop to the ship's Internet connection. I'm told that there are some Wi-fi networks that have been found, but they are not for guest use.
I buy the Internet access and use it to check my email accounts, look at news, and sometimes post to DisBoards. This year I won't have to be checking work email. :)

Another question for the Cruise Director or maybe the manager of Palo: How many chocolate souflee's has one person consumed in one seating?
auntrenae
01-10-2004, 01:06 AM
Here's to celebrating anything you want to on board:hyper: We've done it a few weeks away from the actual date and it's been fine. On our cruise a year ago May, we celebrated Mother's day, my son's graduation from high school, and my other son's return from 2 years in Ecuador. The whole week was a celebration for us!
As far as the souffle' (read 'heaven in a bowl') at Palo, I just happen to know that the manager is crazy about black felt fedoras and is willing to give anyone who will give him theirs as many servings as often as they want, so that number could be infinite! On our Oct. cruise, my son was wearing his that night and was showing off with some hat tricks. The manager came over and offered me souffle' if I would give him Ben's hat. Ben looked daggers at me as I pretended to think about it... I would never give away something he had just brought back from Brazil, but it was fun to make him think I would... He really wanted that hat! Ben did end up teaching him some tricks, but no way would he give up his fedora. He even had some hat bands made for it to match his fancy dancing ties! He's a ballroom dance major in college, so he takes his dance clothes pretty seriously:cool2: :cool1: :cool2: He's a cool dancin' dude!
Sorry for rambling, I'm thinking about the wind on deck and the warm water and... can't sleep!

She gets college credits for this (in FIFTH GRADE!) so she has to do work and learn, and she goes to talk to government officials, and goes to home stays and goes to school with the kids to see what it's like...should be interesting!
ANd I guess I have to take the tree down *sigh*

Wow! Everybody was up pretty late last night! Where was the party? I missed the invite.
Hay, look at that! I got post # 1100!!! Yeah me!
Nikki, I guess that means I can bring a couple blank cds and we can all share pictures. I wonder if Randy's laptop can do that. I don't think so cause he's having trouble sending me pictures of the house we/re trying to buy. Oh, btw, stay warm!
Jami, sorry to hear you've been so ill. Ouch!
Thanks for all the good wishes for today. I am not ready for the sale - put a few things off to do this morning, but couldn't sleep for some reason. Feel like I'm catching a cold as well. BAH!
Ok, so I need to get started. 17 degrees out there and I need to get salt out on the paths and driveway. Yeah, that'll work!

Absolutely Karyn, and anyone else who is interested - I always have blank CDs in my laptop case, and as mentioned before I have a software package (http://www.flipalbum.com) that lets me make fun digital albums that I then burn to a CD and send to family (most of whom are in Europe, as my mom is Dutch and my dad was French - can't tell with a name like Monique, huh *rolls eyes*) Anyone who wants to share photos with me, I'll make up a DIS album and then send them out - it's fun, I even include music to listen to as you browse the images, which I got off the Walt Disney World Explorer computer program we have.

Wow, guess I missed the memo about the party last night. Somebody left their Hanes Signature Collection bulk pack briefs laying everywhere.
Nice to have you back, Jami. Hope you get to feeling chipper again real soon. I'm not sure which is worse - the migraines / shingles or 32 girls for a sleepover.
Thanks for the offer, Nikki. I'll tell Matt to stick a couple blank cd's in his bag just in case his camera runs out of room. He's got a 128 MB memory stick for it so it isn't often that he runs out.
Funny fedora story, Renae.
Sorry, Gary, those are mine, not yours. Forgot I had a party last nite too. Don't forget to check out the Magic in port today, www.portcanaveral.org then webcams.
Have a great weekend.
Hi,
My family will be on the 1/31 cruise and I wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking for a bit and thought I should at least say Hello!
My name is Juli. My DH is Tony and we will be crusing with our DS's, Peter & John (age 8). We have been DVC members since 1998 and we did book this cruise using points. We have been on one other DCL sailing which was for the 2000-2001 NYE. That was awesome and I'm so glad we are heading out on the Western cruise in just a few weeks.
What else can I tell you? We have had our docs for some time. :) I've booked the Stingray Sail & Snorkel and Tulum Ruins tour, but will go it alone in KW. I've booked the Romantic Escape package, but haven't heard from DCL yet as to our priority seatings. I don't have any lime green toques, but plenty of other lime green stuff. Neither my DH nor I have speedos of any kind. My DH will wear a tux for formal night, but it's one he's had for 100 years or so. It still fits him unlike any of the dressy things in my closet!
OK, I feel like I'm crashing a party here, but really wanted to say Hi to some of my fellow cruisers and thank-you for sharing your excitement and planning adventures.
Juli
From a chilly Michigan!
P.S. If nothing else, I can certainly add to the post number for this thread.

Hi Juli Tony and Da boys WELCOME! We look forward to meeting up. You sound like you'll fit right in with Touques, Tuxes and speedo and all and we'll have fun, fun, fun welcome again. Arrrrgggghhhh Eh! pirate: Randy
Juli and Tony, welcome to our party. Are Peter and John twins?
What DVC Resort is your Home? Are you in SE Michigan, or elsewhere?
Thanks for posting. Judi and I look forward to meeting you on the cruise.
Jami, I think we can have a separate migraine sufferers group on the cruise. My DW, Judi, has had them for years. We've been through the ER, Pain Clinic, etc. medical route. The only thing that really helps her is the Imitrex.
32 girls for a sleepover! You are very, very brave! Give us a report (perhaps late Sunday when you are starting to recover) and tell us if your house is still standing.

Well, after all this talk of dressing up I took drastic measures last night. I bought a Tuxedo!!! No, it's not lime green! The cummerbund and bow tie match Gail's outfit.
I went down to see the Hat Guy today. His old shop is an absolute mess. He's setting up his business in the building next to his and everything is coming along. He said UPS returned our hats but they should have them back by the middle of the week and the printing done by the 21st. I don't think that's going to give me enough time to ship the hats out so I will deliver them on the ship.
Welcome Juli, Tony, Peter and John!!! Glad to have you in the group! PLease post as often as you want.

Sheesh, I need a nap!
For all of you who have a cold, I'm with you. I am trying hard to get over mine, and have been off work for a week, so good luck and take good care of yourselves so you will be well and happy when we do get on that beautiful ship!

Welcome to our fun little group, Juli and Tony,
You have to watch out for the flying speedos and toques, though...;) we do know how to have a good time, even if it's just virtually... we'll have to wait till we're on board to see who is going to be crazy enough to do it for real!
For you migraine sufferers, I hate to do this, but I must join you. I've had them for many years. I have found a medication that helps me, though. It's called migranal. Have you heard of it? PM or email me if you want to know more, so I won't bore these healthy people with it:p I have to watch out for flashing lights at dance clubs, so I avoid Rockin' Bar D, unfortunately:( I love to dance! I did find that you can do some at the promenade lounge any time, so that :bounce: crazy dancin' son of mine and I cut a rug there in Oct.:bounce:

Thank you everyone for your well wishes.
The sleepover is my next BIG focus and then I can think more about the cruise--not that we haven't already got our packing underway.
I have had two other couples volunteer to help out with the girls and now I have to begin planning the activity stations. My DD wants a Harry Potter double feature at midnight. I've agreed to one--which will take us to about 2:30 am. I will probably not let them watch the second one--unless we are all really having a lot of fun. I expect most of the kids will have dropped off by then.
My DD, when I picked her up as the end of the evening from the kid's area at 12am or 1am would always ask, "What are we going to do now?" So you will usually find us wandering the ship or up on the top deck (if its not too cold) singing or playing a game.
She is an excellent student and works hard at her studies, so I give her a lot of leaway when its time to have fun. Do I have the makings of a party girl?

Yay, boys near my DS Tyler's age - he's 9 now, turning 10 on the 28th just before the cruise, and he was feeling left out because there were no little boys he could "know" before he went, whereas Kelsey (11) has already "met" a couple of the girls from this group online via email.
You NEED to call your TA about the romantic escape ressies, my new friend!! We got ours done 30 days out, and they told my TA (who is also my MIL) that the Champagne brunch is already getting pretty full. PLUS, they gave us spa ressies at the same time, so we have our Palo dinner and brunch ressies and spa ressies all set! Now, they noted that they don't usually DO the spa ressies, but maybe if you mention that you have "friends" on the same cruise who got them already...???
Worth a shot!
They supposedly start taking the Palo ones 45 days out, so if you don't have them yet, the TA needs to call!!
Jami, I let Kelsey have 8 girls over (all in the 11-13 range) and I thought I was going to LOSE MY MIND...but once they popped in "Jaws 3" to giggle at, they were quiet. Good call on the movies!
Just informed DH we're bringing the laptop, which I thought he knew...he is now fighting with the kids as to who gets to watch a movie on the plane! *grin* Somehow I think they'll win...
Going out tonight with a bunch of "the girls" to celebrate a birthday- picked up a spa gift certificate for her for a massage and european facial ($105) - and being in the spa made me SO excited about our romance package massage...I can't wait to get in the warmth and RELAX with such good company as all you guys!
Go PATRIOTS!!! It's...um...FOUR DEGREES here (F for our Canadian friends)...I hope they can MOVE let alone play football!
Gary, I'm not telling DH about your tux, he was uptight until I said I thought most of our group had suits! LOL! We were just at the mall looking for new ties - you know you canNOT find a Disney tie ANYWHERE? *sigh*
auntrenae
01-10-2004, 04:50 PM
Monique,
I think if you want a tie you may have time to call the main WDW operator and get the number for World of Disney and see if they can send one to you or give you the website for their catalog. I don't happen to know that one  (gotta get moving on that) but I know several guests who have come into my store who have gotten stuff they wanted that way. Just an idea... Dave (my son) got one when they were here that is a beautiful blue with a tiny mickey motif woven into it and a large 'hidden' mickey pattern you could barely see. Snazzy!:cool2: :3dglasses :cool2: If you like, I can call him to find out exactly what store he found it in, but I think it was WoD. It was $30.
Have fun shopping:teeth: Renae

I'm DONE!!!! My day in the moving sale business is finished. We did very, very well, I think it was because everybody was so hungry to go to a sale and buy something - loads of customers, all very happy to help us out. We are thinking about adding more stuff to the sale area in the basement thru the week and then invite our guests for Jill's open house to buy and all proceeds go to her! I think that would be cool. After that all the rest gets donated.
Anyway, I'm a happy if tired camper!
Welcome Juli and Tony - sounds like you covered all the bases, the right aged boys, lime toques, speedos and tuxes - you're all caught up. Now, when are you hosting the cyber party? Don't feel like you're crashing the party several of our most vocal members were new once just like you. (like me, but by now I'm an old hand in this group)
My house next Saturday for Jill's graduation party - you be sure to bring Matt, Dean.

Hi Everyone,
You've all made me feel so welcome, Thank-you! No, I'd have to say to any lurkers out there, no one here will bite you. But you best not show up at the Captains Gala in your speedo, or at least make sure it is black!
Cap - Yes, you can add us to the list:
Juli & Tony Ryner
Peter & John (age 8 - yes they are twins)
Waterford, Michigan
(which is SE Michigan and we are frequently in Canton where Cap & Judi live as my BIL lives there and we have friends and activities that way at least once every other week.)
Cabin - 6032
Third cruise for Tony & I, 2nd for all of us on DCL. Can't wait to see if they will offer 12/18 on board booking incentives for DVC or through DCL. I would love to book that one.
One of the things that got me to post was that Tyler hadn't found a friend prior to the cruise. My boys are very friendly, and if you feel comfortable have Tyler send a note to them via my email or through the DIS group. They are major into Pokemon and Game Boy right now. A few weeks ago it was Yu-Gi-Oh. They have already told me that they would rather eat dinner with the kid's club every night. :( Beleive it or not, I would at least like them to join us for a bit and then take them off to the club. I know they like the shows as well, so we'll see. What am I saying? They can spend as much time away from us as they like!
Thanks again.
P.S. Dean, my DH keeps putting off trying his Tux on so we'll see if he can actually bring it. I sure wish I could justify renting some for my boys as they look so cute in them. It would be easier to do so if was Christmas or another holiday. As for me, I love to dress up but comfort is a big factor. If I have to worry about what I'm wearing all night it basically ruins everything. Basically, I'll be bringing one long dress for formal night, but it's really understated and pants or a skirt for the rest of the dinners. I keep trying to tell DH that simple is best if it is dressed up with some stunning jewelry. He's not getting the hint. Hmmm....should I leave that Mickey Pearl necklace picture out somewhere?
Dean, OKW is our home resort as well. My DH's favorite, but I enjoy staying all over WDW.
Nikki - we don't have a TA! I booked the Romantic Escapes through DVC with $ and they said someone will be calling us. I figured I'll wait until next week and start calling. I am anxious to see if they let us book everything in advance as well. The DVC CM said there was no cancellation policy, so I decided that if they don't let us book everything I'll probably cancel. DH does not want to go to the massage and I'm hoping I can talk them into letting me book something for myself instead....was told no, but I will continue to ask when the DCL rep calls me. It would probably be for something a bit lower priced anyway. Can you beleive I did all this just b/c I didn't want to wait in line for ressies? The thought of going on board, having lunch and hanging out at the Mickey Pool with my kids was such a great thought. Well, the thought of surprising my DH with some rose petals at turn down isn't a bad incentive either. He would be so torqued (not toqued) if he knew how much I spent on the "package". He's an accountant and finance guy by education. That's ok, he keeps me supplied with Disney Jammies and trips to DVC. Gotta love that in a guy.
Um....I told you I could add to the post count. :teeth:

From the notes today, it sounds as though everyone is having a good day.

Gary is the one that has the tux and is OKW. Remember, he's the smart one with the Haines etc., etc.. Me, (Dean) I'm the handsome (and modest) one with the lime-green sneakers that everyone is so envious of. :smooth:

I'm not certified yet, but I have to ask about one of the dive sites. I know about the reef at Grand Cayman, but what is the other? Hopefully in the next year my DH and I will both be certified and then we can REALLY play! We are avid snorkelers, though, so that will have to do for now.
Now on to my big question, are there any scrapbookers out there in our little club? I am totally addicted, and have already done most of my book from Oct., but I can't wait to get some photos I didn't get last time and add them to my growing collection of cruise pix. I even managed to schedule a crop on the Oct. cruise, to do the pages from the one before. That was really fun! Speak up croppers, any of you out there?
Night, (I hope) Renae:wave2:

From screaming the Pats on last night. I didn't expect it to be such a tough go for them, those Titans did a good job and we didn't do as good as we should have - thank goodness we got that last conversion so we could just run the clock down - not a truly honorable win, but a win nonetheless. Gary, Tyler will be wearing his Tom Brady jersey on Superbowl Sunday! :)
Juli, Tyler sounds like a perfect match for your DSs! His favorite gift from Santa (yes he still believes, but ONLY because we managed to FIND this for him!) was the YuGiOh Duel Disk Launcher! :) He is good at that game, and a Pokemon expert, and because I write for a video game magazine, and GLenn and I are so into video games, he is a huge fan of the GameBoys!
Why doesn't DH want to do the massage? Glenn was a little uptight about it, but when he found out we'll be in the same room he is feeling better about it and excited. I thought you could exchnage the couples thing for a massage and facial for you instead.
I'd call them as soon as you can to check on the ressies, as they "lost" us in the shuffle and might have done the same for you, it's getting close now. And mention that if you do not get the spa ressies now, you might consider the cancellation, I bet that helps!

Hey question - I posted this but I'll ask you guys too - we have a small travel iron, but the docs say no irons only in the laundry rooms - I don't want to wait in those lines for formal night, will they stop me from bringing it on board?

Hey, Nikki - I just suggest you sneak it in. If anyone questions it, just ask them if they can swim. http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/violent/sterb038.gif If not, you and your iron are onboard!
Nikki,
Just don't have other stuff plugged in at the same time when you use the small iron. If you trip the circuit breaker, then they will be asking what did you have plugged in. AND, of course, unplug it before you go to dinner. We don't want to have the fire drill on Formal night. ;)
Cyberkashi
01-11-2004, 02:23 PM
We always bring an iron on board. I don't want to risk pressing my evening gown with the ones on board. If they ask you anything--and they won't--because you and your luggage are separated when you arrive at the terminal, just say you wanted to bring your own iron to use in the laundry room.
The table we have had in our staterooms adjusts in height so you can raise the table to eat (or iron). Be VERY careful. And what previous folks said about leaving it plugged in--we don't even leave the room with it hot. Fire on a ship is unbelievably serious.
Hi Nikki,
Tony has never had a massage before. I'm sure he'd love it if he did, but he's having the understandable "I don't like the idea of a stranger touching me" apprehension. We'll see. He can usually be persuaded over time if I gently bring the subject up from time to time. I will be calling on DCL on Monday to see about ressies.
Yes the boys could PM here. They will be thrilled that they have similar interests. Peter just told me that the card game Tyler has is much more fun than the video game. John says "Can we meet him Mom? So, we'll have to connect these guys up!
I've actually started to sort through what I want to pack. I never do that ahead of time. I must be pretty excited. We are heading down to my IL's for 4 nights prior to the cruise, so have to figure out what we need to get at and what not, and how badly dress clothes will wrinkle if they are in the garment bag for a few days, and how much we really need for the plane ride and...... No wonder I don't sleep the night before we travel. I'm bound and determined to get the packing done before 1 am the night before we leave! As usual we have lots of other stuff going on at the same time, so I'll be better off getting it out of the way now. Phew! This is the kind of stress I love though!

Happy Sunday! Less than three weeks now and we will be anchors away... Juli, I hope you can convince your DH to have a massage... once he tries it, he'll be hooked...
We got lots of snow last night but it sure has warmed up... I'm not sure which is worse - lots of snow but not too cold, or really cold but little snow... I'll think I'll go on a cruise to get away from both...

Oh, boy. We're getting down to some serious pre-packing stuff today! Puts me in the mood for an umbrella drink! I read somewhere on these boards that there is Disney merchandise available at the airport. Is this the kind of place where we can find "Pooh size" (XXL) t-shirts?
Annie12345
01-11-2004, 03:28 PM
Dean, you should be able to find them there... if I recall correctly, it was a full Disney store... very nice way to kill time in the airport (and lighten the wallet)...
Annie, Feel free to KEEP your new snow. No need to share everything.
For those worried about wrinkles, remember, you can send things to be pressed on board. Also, speedos don't need much pressing.
Three weeks out - 64F at Key West this afternoon. Look at the ship tied up: http://webcam.keywest.com/msindex.htm . Look at the Mallory Square cam.
In another week or so, I'll even have to think about packing.
Judi told me about a Tux shop that was having a massive sale, so I'll have to look tomorrow. The problem is it's not just the initial cost of the Tux, it's the upkeep. If I get one, then Judi will want me to go places to wear it. I can hear it now - there's no sense just having it hanging in the closet, let's go to ... or ....
Post numbers are going well - we're only 102 posts out of first place and we've had 12,195 views. Next they'll want our team on reality TV. Let's see, could they do it the week of Jan 31?
Kayrn - $700 - very good. Our's are usually in the $150 range.
Well, got to go. Somehow we ended up double booked today - did hospitality lunch after our Sunday meeting, and are also supposed to be at friends for dinner at 4:30. My weigh in will not be a good one tomorrow morning.

It sounds like we had a busy night with our little group! Between football, a garage sale, kids going to Australia and all the rest, we are a busy bunch!
I dreamed last night that I was packing and nothing fit, so you know what I will be doing tonight... trying on clothes again... funny how we get so obsessed with this cruise stuff, but hey, it is a huge part of our lives, my co-workers would attest to that! They all groaned when I told them I was going again so soon, but they all do the Disney cruise too, with cast discounts who wouldn't! At least I will 'try' not to talk only about that at work this time! He he he...:hyper:
Karen, next time I want to have a garage sale, would you come help me? I've never made over a hundred, no matter what I've sold! Wow! My parents live in Yakima, Wa, and I grew up in SW Wa, so you are in for some beautiful green trees and gray skies, but they make for the best light for photography, so:sunny: here's some sunshine for you. Just watch out for exploding mountains!

New topic of discussion for the upcoming week now that we all got our dresses, speedos or tuxes ready. In addition to getting together outside the Studio Sea after boarding, any other time we can get together maybe for a group photo to post on the boards? I'm a first-time cruiser so don't know if this is kosher or practical. Dean,
The airport shops are part of the group I'm in, and I visited them last week when I picked up my son. They do have pooh shirts but I didn't check sizes. I do have some good news for you, though, my store (Disney Worldport at Pointe Orlando on International drive) does have them, and... drum roll please...:goodvibes ... they are on SALE!. We have one of the only official WDW stores that has a whole section of clearance merchandise. I know we have some Pooh shirts there and we have extended sizes all the way up to 4x on some things. If you are coming in early enough to go, I know you should be able to find them there. We have a great selection in our sale section of shirts, little kids clothes, and teen stuff, so come on in? If you come in on a day I'm there, I'll help you find what you want, just ask for me. I'm the one with long hair.
For anyone who is interested and is a pin trader, we have an exclusive pin in our store that isn't sold anywhere, but we give it away if you do something we ask you to do, like pose like the Goofy statue in the front of the store, or win at the golf ball snow globe game while you are there. Just ask anyone if you can do it, and if we're not totally swamped, we love to help you look silly:earseek:  :jester: so please come if you can.

We're staying at the Hyatt at the airport and don't get in until around 6-6:30 PM. Feasible? And, he doesn't want "Pooh shirts", he wants "Pooh sized". :teeth: He takes after his dad and "needs" a larger size.

Renae - I love Pointe Orlando - what a great mall!!!! Next time we visit your store (which will be in 6 weeks!!!) we will see if we can get ourselves one of those pins...
Cap, you don't have to worry about us sending our snow your way, it seems to be melting... now we have mud!
Dean - I'm all for another meet/photo op/get together...It's probably the easiest on a sea day since port days everyone will be all over the place doing different things... I'm sure we'll be finding our way to the same evening entertainment as well, although there is no more Duelling Pianos  I'm sure we'll be able to find a fun place to gather - Rockin Bar D has some fun events - 60's, 70's, 80's nights...

Talk about a great job!
Dean, I re-read your post and realized that you meant Pooh_size shirts, not Pooh shirts, sorry:confused: that means you have even more selection to choose from! We have loads of the new 'Where Magic Lives' shirts in larger sizes too, but they aren't on sale:rolleyes: I always check because I'm no size medium, that's for sure.

Renae, this time around I want to buy something collectible. I really like the 3-D plates... do they ever go on sale? Last year on the cruise, DH bought me the crystal tinkerbell (for Valentine's Day) and I wouldn't mind getting another crystal ornament this time - maybe one of the Magic... do they have stuff like that at the Disney store, too?
auntrenae
01-11-2004, 10:18 PM
Annie,
First off, to clear up a misconception, the store I work in isn't a Disney store like in the mall, it's part of the parks. It's not in one, just part of it as far as the company goes. The Disney stores are a different corporation, so if we have something, likely they don't and vice versa.
Now to your plates. I haven't seen them, but they could appear at any time. We do have some plates that were in the parks last year, though. I haven't seen any crystal or other ornaments either. Any Christmas stuff, unless it won't be used ever again, is taken to the Christmas store at Downtown Disney after the holidays. I've been off work for a week because of the flu, but I will go back tomorrow and report on what we have now. We get loads of new stuff all the time, so I'll periodically let you know as we get closer to the cruise.
As a general rule, we have a lot of t-shirts, night shirts, kids clothes, mostly little kids, and cards, some toys, and misc. We have had some princess dresses, but I don't know what we have at this moment.
I hope that helps... Renae

Good Monday morning everyone! I don't usually consider Monday mornings particularly good, but as I am counting down the days to the Magic, it's not so bad!
Renae - I am glad you cleared up the misconception about the park store vs. the mall store. I was not familiar with your particular store and I was working my way to the end of the thread to ask you about it! Not knowing they were different corporations, I thought WOW does that mean if I worked at our local Disney Store that I could sail on Disney cruises for great fares. But, I am assuming that is not the case since they are a different corporation. If only I could talk DH into moving to Florida :( I have had it with the cold weather, anyway!
I hope everyone's week is getting off to a good start. Keep up the good work on the posts!! I will see what I can do to help

I just had a fun idea about how to tell Jill about the cruise this weekend. I don't know if any of you would like to help me out. What if each of you sent her a Congrats card and say something like "we're looking forward to seeing you soon" or something like that. It would be fun to recieve a bunch of cards from people she doesn't know and wonder what it's all about. If you want to do that email me at Kabuli1@aol.com and I'll send you my address. It could just ba a post card. Or if you don't get one off early enough I can post her email address.
Our offer was accepted on the house out in Puyallup. I guess I won't be homeless out there afterall. Our closing date here is 2/12; move in there 12/15. We close here less than a week after we get off the ship.
This week I need to get everything in boxes. One room at a time.
Oh, a little problem for me here. Jill has started posting to the 10-day cruise thread again so I have to be very careful the rest of the week when I post. It's ok in the morning - but if you see my name up there could someone please post quickly after me so that I don't get "caught"!

Hi Kim, I don't need the quick cover up till after about 2 in the afternoon. But thanks! Yes I saw the house. I went out there the first week of December and it's one that we both liked right away. Oh, we saw better houses cause there are some issues with this one, but it has the most amazing garden and the house just felt like home when we walked in. Anyway, it just felt like it was supposed to be ours. Someday, tho, I want it all!

Good Morning to you too!
We are having a heat wave as well. Snow this morning with a high of 35. We are going sledding this afternoon and went ice skating yesterday. Anyone want to join us?
Aren't the new folks supposed to sponsor a party? How about a skating party at my house? We can have hot cocoa with little umbrellas, mulled cider w/ Jack Daniels for those who need extra "warmth". We don't have a hot tub, but we do have a fireplace and can watch DCL shows, and think about that warm weather coming in a few weeks!
I've never been the host of a virtual party, so be kind if I'm a bit off with my planning.
Juli
Hello all.
Annie, I'm a bit disappointed in you. I told you that you could keep the snow, but you sent us some anyway. Hopefully it is just a "no thank you" helping.
Karyn, great on the house offer. That should be one less thing to worry about while you are packing. I assume that is just a type o the move in date and you really meant Feb 15, not Dec 15. I sent you an email re Jill.
Dean - remember, there is still the e-ticket option.
Juli, your party sounds great. I'll come IF I can find my skates. They are second on the list to find, right after my dachshund's missing collar. We've looked all over the house and the yard and can't see where she lost it.
Gary - Don't ship out hats - just bring them. We'll be leaving on the 23rd and I think it's cutting it too tight to ship. Besides, the space the hats filled will leave you more empty suitcase room to buy stuff and bring back.
Renae - thanks for the update.

Now tell me, as another first time cruiser, were they what you expected them to look like? I filled them out yesterday and was surprised at how little there was to fill out, from reading some of the posts here I expected reams of paperwork. Oh, and why do we have a Bahamas immigration/departure form, I thought the Bahamas were the Eastern cruise? Or is Castaway Cay Bahamian? Hmm.
Either way, all set but the credit card form, and I found DH's birth certificate yesterday, so I think we're pretty much good to go other than getting copies of the kids' BC's...

Live froLive from the Magic, Football report
For all of you football fans traveling during the big games, take heart. They make viewing them a special treat.
In Diversions they have the big screen and smaller screens all over the place with a satellite feed. In the corner, they have tailgate food: BBQ and spicy wings and ribs, hot dogs and hero, grinder, sub (or whatever you call them where you live) sandwiches.
Since Diversions becomes adults only after nine, they have the game shown at the Promenade Lounge for families. They also set up "game food."
The previous quote was from DVCREG!!! Just think what they'll do for the Superbowl!!!

Free drinks at Juli's skating party tonight, Dean, if you're not too busy memorizing your docs.

Nikki, I am having some problems loading this thread also, and I have broadband and lots of PC memory. I think that 1200+ post threads are stressing the server. I do know that Pete has placed an order for server and front end upgrades for the boards, so that should help once they are installed.
I lost a great post around 12:30 today. Pressed submit, went out the door, and when I came back it was not posted.

Thanks Juli for providing the perfect venue for tonights party. Annie and I will be there with tinkerbells on we hope that we aren't too rowdy, watch out for that Gary and dean, especially Dean after finally receiving his docs I think he will be wild. Don't worry we're a pretty good group. Cops only had to come by the hot tub party a few times. see ya later Arrrggghhh Eh! pirate: Randy
Yeah, party tonight! Cap can bring firewood; we don't have any, so thank-you. Dean, Mr. 1200, is bringing drinks. My older son, who is not cruising with us (21 yr old college student), cleared off the rink. It'a a pretty warm night for January in Michigan, but you still need those toques. Gary, did you say you wanted to be goalie? We've got the nets all set up, so come on over. Anyone who doesn't want to skate can do the document congo around the rink!

Nah, I'm not scared......should I be? ;)
We were at the library, sledding, the dollar store.
I found a great magnet for our door at the dollar store. A star with Mickey's name and shorts on it. I was thinking we'd put it on our door so we can easily spot it. My DH will think I've flipped. I'm not "Mickey crazy", but I do like to pick up things here and there. Tee-hee.
Kids are off the rink. It's all ours!

Kim,
I don't know for sure, but I think cast members at the Disney store in malls get the same discounts that we do. All cast members get some great discounts, and free park admission, but I don't think Disney store cast members get a maingate pass, so you might want to check it out before you apply to your local store. Also, you may want to check to see if they will be closing, because a lot of mall stores are all around the country.
I TOTALLY understand your feelings about leaving cold weather, we moved here to Orlando just for that reason, so if you can come, do it! This is a great place to live, and if you want to work for Mickey, it's wonderful. All of my family members except one holdout do, and the perks are amazing.

Hey everyone,
I hope you had a good Monday. I went to work, so I have a report for you.
Annie, we don't have any plates on sale, but we do have a great 3D plate in the 'where Magic lives' line, if that is what you want.
For everyone, We still have the same stuff I mentioned last night, plus some scrapbook stuff, a lot of stationery, like Buzz and the Princesses, some kids toys, Tink costumes, and some travel pillows, the little inflatable ones. Hope that helps,

Ya know Dean, it's gotta be the ice theme. I can chip a hole in it for anyone who wants to do a polar bear cannon ball.

That's good news. It's not the # of posts, that's just a bunch of zeros and ones stored in a database - it's the # of people trying to HIT the boards, and this is a programming language called Perl - which is HORRIBLE for large groups, to be honest - it doesn't do very well at memory allocation, etc. So that's why the boards are speeding along now, but hurting in the day - ah the price of popularity!! *grin*
The car cost $484. *sigh* But now I would think I can do well to trade it in - DH is getting a company cargo van type thing with the catering company logo on the side (ah the joys of being an owner) so we'll trade in the Quest and my Elantra for something bigger that can cart kids and friends around. We're looking at the Toyota Highlander - and I want to load it up with fun things so we will want to keep it a long time. We'll see!
Off to shower and head to Boston...

Good Morning everybody!!!
I had to remain out of sight yesterday. I heard from a few of you, would love to have a few more cards or cybercards for Miss Jill. I can't wait till we can talk about all this openly.
The party was fun last night, Juli! I'm sorry that I was so quiet no one noticed I was there. I think I fell asleep after the first glass of Boones Farm. That was quite a trick you had with the red shoes and the no-place-like-home trick - except I found myself all alone in my new house in WA!!! Oops! (I had to use some flue powder to get back. Or was it that some Eagles gave me a ride on their way back from some mountain called Doom which is nowhere near Ranier?)
I have a friend coming over to help out today, I think we can get most of the downstairs living space packed. Trouble is, she's bringing a bottle of champagne to ease the pain . . . at 8 am?
Ooh la la Nikki! A new car? That is so cool! I love new cars!
Well, everybody, I'll hang around some this morning. please cover for me mid-afternoon on!
Where's the party tonight? Saturday it's here at my place. . . .tho, I'm not sure where I live now.

I'm a techie dork, and have installed and run a few of these boards...and I just took a class in Perl (I'm self taught on all this tech stuff, my degree is actually meteorology) and that's where I found out that for large groups, this is probably not the way to go - BUT, it is FREE, whereas the stuff for large groups is definitely NOT (thank you Microsoft!!) so I understand why they use this stuff. I'm part of the new internet generation, I'm afraid - if it takes longer than 10 seconds, I get annoyed... :hyper:
So anyone read the post about the person who got food poisoning in Animal Kingdom and then was refused passage on her 3 night cruise, because they couldn't prove that it WASNT Norwalk? I sympathize, what a terrible experience - but I was wondering at the "rules" of this board, because she has quite the story and in it, calls many professionals "liars" and basically defames Disney and DCL. Here at work, posts along those lines would be pulled in 2 seconds, as that's libel (or slander, I forget what's written and what's spoken!) and WE could get sued for it! I also wonder that they didn't have her sign something to say she couldn't talk about it, as that's Disney (and many other major corporations), because she talks about dealing the claims dept - she might have lucked out in that.
Makes me double check my packing list for meds. for stomach illnesses, I'll say that!! :earseek:
Karyn, I can do an ecard, just let me know when/where!! I'm terrible at mailing things the "old fashioned way". ;)
Off to eat my bagel w/strawberry cream cheese and go through emails! Ta ta!

Doing the happy dance at my house today! Debbie from DCL Dining called and we have all of our Palo ressies set as well as the spa visit. She was very pleasant and had suggestions on when to book what. She did allow me to choose our dining rotation as well; APLAPLA. With our younger kids (8), that is probably what we'd get anyway. I'm sure if I had pressed it she would have booked a different spa treatment for me. She suggested that I book it as the couples massage and when we are settled in on Day 1 or Day 2 take Tony to the spa and see what he thinks. She was sure they'd change it if he really didn't want to go.
Amazing how things change when you talk to the right person. When I called in yesterday, the CM didn't even know what the Romantic Escape was and said I'd have to book everything on arrival day. Prior to that I was told we wouldn't be able to book brunch or tea, nor our spa visit, nor could I book a different spa treatment if Tony doesn't want to go to the massage. I realize they can't know everything, or have the authority to do everything, so I try to smile when I ask for what I want....and ask, and ask, and ask. :) He went away for a bit and came back and said someone would call me the week of the cruise to set up Palo. I told him we are leaving 1/27 for FL and he made a note and said they'd call me before we leave. The call came this am!
Debbie was charming and basically was pleased with doing things prior to sailing. "It keeps the ship organized" as she said. Now if they'd just do this without taking my $299!!!!
OK, I've gushed enough. Should split it up into several posts in order to boost the post number.

That's awesome Juli, congrats! Tell us your Palo bookings, maybe we're gonna be there the same times? We have the champagne brunch on the Monday at sea, 10am I think - and our spa treatment same day at 4:45, they told us to plan on an hour and a half total...then we have Palo dinner and our romantic turn down on Weds the 4th at 7pm.
Did they give you any clues about the "extras"??
And HEY! WE didn't get to pick our dining rotation!! I just emailed your post to my mother-in-law because I want to know that too, and maybe she can call them for me tonight before THEY go to FL tomorrow (they are moving back there, tomorrow they fly down to sign on the papers for their house).
*pout*
*wants to know her dining rotation too*
*thinks someone better hand her a boat drink fast before she cries*

APLAPLA - so that means you're in Lumiere's on "Formal" AND "Semi-formal" night? Why would they put the littlest kids in Lumiere's, the most formal of the dining rooms other than Palo's? Just a question...if I had the choice, this would be the rotation I picked too...but your comment about the younger kids and this being the "norm" made me wonder. :) I'm most excited for Animators Palate and least excited for Parrot Cay or whatever it's called, so I'd love to have Animator's Palate the first night out!!
But wait! THat would mean the second time around in An. Palate, we'd miss out cause that's our Palo night...hmmm...what to do what to do! Maybe it's better to not pick it and go with chance. *grin*
Yeah yeah, always whining, that's me!
