I just HAD to show my employees what a fool this old man can be and closed the place. So, really am dancing on my tip-toes this morning trying to be very quiet.:headache:

Dean, just think that you are sitting on the ship, on the sunny deck, with a cool drink in your hand, cruising slowly. Of course you've got your cruise hat on to protect you from too much sun!

But now that I can open my eyes all the way I'm ready to dance!! Yippeeeee, won't be long now!!:jumping3:

Hi fellow Disney Cruisers!
I am a bit late for the 50 day dance but rest assured I was dancing all day ... even got out the high heel sneakers!
Congratulations, Karyn, I'm sure that everything will go fine!
We're not part of the '91 marriage club but we are part of the March club - we got married March 31st...
Happy dancing!!

Hi guys, sorry I missed the dance! I'm trying to remember what I did instead.
So we now have a Contract Pending sign up, the key box is empty - but they couldn't take it down cause it's been so cold the mechanism is frozen! As soon as the buyer's financing goes thru we'll get the "SOLD" sign.
Busy weekend here, Today: cleaning and preparing tomorrow's lesson. Tomorrow: church, teaching, (NAP!!), decorating for Christmas, Survivor finale. Monday: (probably finishing the decorating) resting, reclining - getting ready for 14 straight hours of movie watching at Trilogy Tuesday in Chicago at AMC River East! Of course, Tuesday you all know where I'll be! After that maybe I can change my countdown clock.
Feeling a bit bah humbug about Christmas - wouldn't decorate if I hadn't foolishly volunteered my home for the neighborhood progressive dinner 12/20. As soon as it's over I will need to start the real packing.
Well, well, we aren't part of any marriage/anniversary club here - tho this June will be 25 years, if the move doesn't break us up! June 1979 in Wheaton IL. But I will be in the 50 club verrrrry shortly, tooooo shortly! Cheers Gary!
Have a great weekend, stay warm, think warm thoughts: Castaway Cay, Konk Koolers, sunset in Mallory Square . . .
Welcome to the Caribbean, love!

Wow, I guess I really am the OLD one. Cheri and I will have to be the chaperones of the group.
According to Webster:
2 entries found for chaperones.
chaperon[1,noun]chaperon[2,verb]
Main Entry: 1. chap·er·on
Variant(s): or chap·er·one /'sha-p&-"rOn/
Function: noun
Etymology: French chaperon, literally, hood, from Middle French, head covering, from chape
Date: 1720
1 : a person (as a matron) who for propriety accompanies one or more young unmarried women in public or in mixed company
2 : an older person who accompanies young people at a social gathering to ensure proper behavior; broadly : one delegated to ensure proper behavior
We've been married 37 years as of last November. She's still my best friend after all these years.:love2: Sorry, get kinda mushy when I think about her and me being together so long.:lovestruc

37 years, in this day and age, is not only wonderful, but an amazing accomplishment, and NEVER apologize for being mushy like that...if only MORE people did that! *happy sigh*
Been a rough couple of years for us, actually, but this cruise is also a chance for us to celebrate our very recent recommitment to each other, and with the kids so well "distracted", we hope to really reconnect! That's why we booked so late...and chose a cruise over the parks, where all we'd do is run around like crazy. We want to enjoy US rather than everyone else in lines and such.
Just finished "Xmas-fying" the house, and put up lights outside, just in time for MORE SNOW *sob*
Made the mistake of going to Target today...silly me...isn't it horrible how everyone gets so nasty at the time of year meant for exactly the opposite? My mother works for Macys, and the treatment she gets is downright dispicable - so I try to make up for it by carrying a bag of Hershey Kisses when I Xmas shop - and I give one or two to the clerks that help me out, to try to give them a smile. It's not fair that the very people that help us get our gifts for the season end up hating it because of how they're treated.
*gets off soapbox*
So anyhow...after my nightmare trip to the mall, I am trying to get in the cruise spirit with a small rum drink...who's with me...

Dean,
37 years is great. Judi and I will celebrate our 36th on the cruise.

Nikki, you are so right about the cruise versus the parks! It's an excellent opportunity to get reaquainted.:happy1:
Gail and I were on the Key West web sites today and we're seriously considering renting a scooter or electric car for the afternoon after we do the Trolley. Also, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory Astronomical Applications Department (NOAAD) (say THAT three times real fast!!!) the sun will set at 6:12 P.M. on February 1st. The Mallory Square web site says festivities begin about an hour before sunset. Those of us that have first seating for dinner (we do) will miss dinner in the dining room that night if you participate in the sunset celebration. We'll probably eat at Topsider's.

Annie,
I'm so with you on that souffle':hyper: :Pinkbounc :hyper:
I have a funny story for you. On our last cruise in Oct. our son who is 21 was with us and at Palo, had his 'cool' fedora on. He does hat tricks with it and was doing it there. The manager came over to watch and asked our son to teach him how. He did, and the manager told me that if I would make Ben give him that hat, he'd personally deliver to me all the souffle' I could eat! I was pretending to think about it, but Ben said 'Hey, I bought this in Brazil and you can't give it away!!'. I knew it was special to him and would never do that, but it was fun to tease him. I do love that souffle' and would eat it every night if I could. One night I asked our regular head waiter if there were any chance he could get one for me, and the next night there he came with it just as I was about to dig into come creme brulee'... what could I do but eat both!::yes:: What teriffic service that was.
I"m really getting excited now:hyper:

Karyn,
I do think I'll just do the half day, but I haven't booked yet for the cruise, so I can't do it for excursions... We are waiting for Disney to open up the booking for cast members, and it's driving us nuts. They have the one before and the one after us, but they are eastern and we NEED to go western. Oh well:rolleyes: we can wait another few days, I think!
As for the Cozumel fury catamaran, it is an AMAZING excursion::yes:: The water is clear, the snorkeling is wonderful, the sea was calm when I went in Oct. If your hubby has a problem with being seasick, have you tried those acupressure wrist bands? That might not make him as woozy as pills do.
They take you to a great spot to snorkel and they give you tortillas to feed the fish. They come right away to eat them so you are surrounded by gorgeous fish! There is a photographer in the water who will take photos of you where you want them. When he took mine, he put some tortillas in the water and the fish all came, and then he took the photo. It was one of the best I have from the cruise. You have to pay for it, but it's so worth it!
After that, they take you to a beach for a party. I didn't like the sand, because it reminded me of quicksand, pulling at my feet, but that's just me. :yo-yo: the water there is beautiful too, and was totally calm that day. I don't know about other times, but this day was PERFECT! I'd do it again in a heartbeat.:hyper:

Everyone remember, tonight @10pm, Travel Channel, DIsney Cruise Line...it's DIsney before too, but I HAVE to watch the last Survivor...:hyper:
We're going to do the Fury Catamaran for sure, it's really the ONLY excursion we want to do thru the ship...Glenn said he's game and who knows, he does good with smaller boats - he had a problem when we took the ferry to Isla des Mujeres in Cancun, but that's a big lumbering slow boat and we were on the second floor (duh)...we took a small water taxi back, and he was FINE with that.
MORE snow tonight...oh joy. *sigh* Think :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

It started in my area (as anyone watching the Patriots game yesterday would have seen) around 3:30, and by 5pm I had to shovel the driveway, because it was coming down at 2-3 inches an hour.
It turned to freezing rain/sleet around 10pm.
This morning, it was like trying to move concrete.
The kids were so upset they only had an hour delay - I had to drive them in, and I believe our school superintendant will get a nasty letter, it was HORRIBLE driving! :(
We taped the show, and watched about 1/2 of it before our beds won...we'll be watching it tonight. I was SO excited I had goosebumps just watching the boarding process! I thought they "announce" people as they board? It did not look like it on the show.
I want to see the "behind the scenes" - a preview of the galley tour I've read about that we hope to take, what with DH being a caterer and all...
:( I dont' want to wait any longer...can't we all just go now???

Knew there had to be a thread for this cruise! I was looking for it intermittantly for a couple of weeks--not believing it wasn't out there and yet, not wanting to search for pages and pages.
Hi. I (Jami), DH and DD (7) will be taking our third Magic sailing with you. We are late seating and looking for another family with a child my daughter's age to have dinner with us. I am trying to catch up on the thread but to date am only on page 14! What a lot to read.
I'll try to contribute more as I get caught up on the lastest conversation. Please add us to the cruisers list.

Hi Jami!
We're late seating too...although DD is older than your daughter (11) and DS will have just turned 10 when we go. I did not realize you can request table mates, how cool is that. Are there ANY "tables for four", or are all the tables shared?

Welcome, Jami and family! Wow, our numbers continue to grow.
Gary, I shoveled 7 inches in my driveway yesterday and it was the second time in two weeks! I think it was probably more fun than watching the Steelers, anyway :earseek: Luke wanted to help -- for about 5 minutes. :hyper: Then he decided he would help by telling me when I missed some -- aahh, the lift of a 4 year old. It wasn't long after that he realized playing in the backyard would be more fun. John left for Germany on business, so it was all up to me.
I have had enough winter already!!!!! ::yes::
Maybe this has been brough up before, but what's anyone doing after the cruise?! We have a two night reservation at the Dolphin and were planning to go to MK on Sunday. Now I am trying to decide if somewhere else would be better. It's not like the Dolphin is especially convenient to MK, but I have an excellent rate. I am trying to decide if one of the Disney resorts would be more fun for the kids (ages 2, 4, and 5), especially on Saturday when we are not planning to do the parks. I got an excellent rate at POR, but I am a little reluctant since they are due for renovations. Anyway, what's anyone else doing and are there any suggestions for what to do on Saturday after we get off the Magic (we aren't planning to have a car, but will take a towncar to our resort)?
Have a Disney Day! :wave2:

After the cruise, we're headed back home...we're taking the kids out of school for this week, and they don't have their Feb. vacation for 2 weeks after this, so we have to get them back. This is a special occasion, although they'll actually have homework in the form of a journal to keep while on the cruise.
I just booked our Fury Catamaran/snorkle/beach party, whoo hoo! I was worried that they would either fill up, or that they wouldnt' take my request because I did not have our reservation #, but Cynthia was wonderful on the phone, and the 4 of us are set to go on this one!

I don't remember if there are small tables for four. Usually you get assigned to a table with another family. But you can definately request seating with another family just by linking your reservation numbers together. It's an easy call to DCL.
Our first cruise we had a bad experience with table assignments. They put us at a table with 9 Spanish women (no men, no children) who didn't speak English. It was some kind of family reunuion. We felt like like we had walked into the wrong wedding. It was awful. They eventually changed us to another table, and it worked out okay, but now I always try to arrange for dining companions when I can--especially since we are late seating. Most families with kids DD's age go for early seating. Maybe we'll try that next year.

Ah, I see! We booked so late that we not only got the 2nd to last Cat. 9 cabin (2506), we also had no hope of the early seating. But because of DH's schedule, we tend to eat a bit later than "normal" anyhow, around 7-8pm, so this will work out good I think -and because of DH's career, dinner is not just a rush through affair for us, it's something to enjoy - how often does a chef get to have someone cook for HIM 7 nights in a row, so if the kids want to eat and run, more power to us! *grin*
I know our TA put us on a wait list for early seating, but I really don't care if we get it or not, an early show followed by a nice dinner sounds like heaven to me.
I'll put our names out there for anyone who might want to prearrange the seating like that. :)

Shingle If you are still out there, I have a DD age 7 who would like to meet and talk to Dee Dee. Do you have late seating?
Captain Marv We booked Captain Marv's direct last year. It is less expensive than going through Disney and you get the same tour. We went for the 1/2 day and DD is insisting on doing it all again. Cap Marv's is about two blocks from where the ship docks and he claims to refund your money if the ship doesn't dock for any reason. Last time a bunch of DISers got together and booked a whole boat. They did the two-hour and we did the 1/2 day (3 hour) so we didn'g go with them. But we heard they had a GREAT time. Maybe someone would like to coordinate a DIS boat this time?

Grand Cayman has us a bit stumped too as to what to do...none of the excursions catch my eye - to be honest, I'd be completely freaked by the stingrays, I remember having a hard time with the happy tropical fish in Xel-ha on our honeymoon!
I'd maybe like to poke around some shops, and find a beach nearby - why take a bus and a 45 min ferry to the Rum Point Beach, what's so special about that one, aren't there any closer?
Cyberkashi

Sure, put us down for 1 blue hat. Not sure whether DH would wear it, but could be useful for identifying other DISers on the cruise.
The 1/2 day Captain Marvins would probably be a bit boring if you don't snorkel or want to get into the water. The boat ride itself is really not very scenic, most go for the underwater view. Depending on where they are able to dock the boat, the stingray's may provide a good view--but maybe not. When we got off the boat last year we couldn't see the stingrays from boat. There were so many other boats there (it is a VERY popular place) that we had to swim to the area to find them. But once you are in the "area", stingrays are everywhere. They brush against you, you can touch them & feed them. Capt. Marv gives you raw squid to feed them.
Be very careful with young children. Do not let them feed the stingrays. I am very glad I did not let DD feed them last time.
They do not bite outright, but if you are holding the squid the wrong way (as I learned the hard way) they will bite down on your finger. It didn't really hurt a lot (like a bite from a small dog), but I have heard of instances where they have been able to bite off a finger of a small or very slender hand.
I mistakenly held the squid between my thumb and forefinger. I later learned that you need to make a loose fist with the squid protruding up from the center--then they just suck it up. You will only get bit if your finger gets in their mouth while feeding. They will not come up and bite you. DD dropped some squid juice down the front of my suit and these giant stingrays kept coming up and trying to suck my suit. DD thought it was a riot.

Hi, group!
So, now I'm a little confused . Being first timers, we booked the Disney snorkel and island tour, thinking it was basically a wading thing among the wildlife and I would get the chance to send my in-laws a postcard from Hell. We do not snorkel, and a couple of us do not even swim. Would we be better off doing something else that we may enjoy more?
Now, where has Karyn gone again? Is she running across the country again looking for a place to put down new roots? Time to check in with us, lady. The conga line is getting longer and longer!

Dean:
Disney has several tours that include snorkeling with the stingrays. The one that you are on is not the Captain Jack tour. The stingrays are on a sandbar and even DD (age 6) was able to stand up there. But...you have to swim out to the sand bar. You cannot just walk of a dock into the water (as best as I can remember). I hope that is helpful.

Thank you, Jami, that did help.
The implication from the Passporter was that we simply stepped off the boat into waist deep water and then enjoyed feeding the stingrays. So now we are rethinking that excursion :happy1: for the glass bottom boat and relaxing at Rum Point beach. Anyone know anything about that one?

The thing that's bugging me, and I've been looking around...I read on some site out there (goodness knows I've been to enough of them!) that at one of the stops, either Grand Cayman, or Cozumel, that scooters are available but not recommended for a variety of reasons - including major potholes, dangerous local drivers, poor road conditions, and bad directions...BUT...I might have dreamt it as I can't find it again! *grin*
We want to do scooters at Key West. :teeth:

As Sam said: "Well, I'm back. . ." and the credits rolled!
My first priority and my countdown for the past three years culminated last night with experiencing The Lord of the Rings -Trilogy Tuesday in downtown Chicago (a promotional event that I was lucky enought to snag tickets for.) We got there at 10am to scout out the situation (the movies - all three, the first two in all their extended glory, started rolling at 1pm) anyway the theater was already 1/2 full, but we got excellent seats and had a wonderful wonderful time, even if we were in the theater for almost 15 hours. We were free to come and go and AMC River East did a fabulous job of hosting the event. I laughed, I cried, I have to go back and see it again today.
Sorry guys, first things first!
Welcome Jami! And don't you go scaring those good folks about Stingray city! It is a great experience, Dean and you should definitely try it. You won't need to snorkle or swim to experience it. They are very adept at working with all kinds of folk. Capt Marvin's last year was wonderful - but they do go to some great snorkeling spots as well, which is why I think you should send Matt with us. Jami, we (3 and Matt, if we can talk Dean into parting with him) and Renae will be doing the 1/2 day on Grand Cayman with Capt Marvins - it will be almost like a private boat. Join us! Seriously, it was the highlight of our entire cruise last year, don't miss out on it. Dean, I think tho, that including it w/ the island tour is a good choice for you and Cheri. And, stingrays don't bite - they don't have teeth - tho they have a hard cartilege and you can get pinched as you feed them. You won't lose fingers, tho you may get a hickey! (yes it was waist deep water and the only reason I used my mask (you don't need mask and snorkle) was because I have a corrected lens in it and didn't want to wear my glasses out in the water (blind otherwise). Jill's not a great swimmer, snorkeler- Randy is even worse, but we wouldn't consider ever missing Stingray City, ever!
The question about tables for 4 - they often seat families of four by themselves. We were seated that way but asked to be put w/ another family who are now some of our best friends - and we met them right here on DIS. My new best friends are going to be Dean and Cheri even if they aren't LOTR fans and don't like to snorkel!
Randy's on his way back to Seattle right now, he'll be home Friday and leaves on 1/1 to drive out there to stay. So the window of opportunity to pack for the move is between Christmas and NYE! I guess we'll be busy. We've been doing a bunch of farewell parties, kinda sad, you know.
Cheers to all, I'll try to check in more often - it's a good excuse to get away from packing.

Maybe now I wont' feel so bad that I can't find the #1 thing, a Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Disk Launcher - apparently THAT is the hottest thing around for his age group, and I refuse to pay more than the $39 that Mattel wants for it! He'll have to be satisfied with the jersey he's been begging for since summertime. *grin*

Hello Everyone -
The weather here is so fine, I can't believe it... all of our snow has melted, the sun is shining, and I don't have to wear a parka... life is good... if that nice weather can just last til Jan. 28th, I will be very happy! Then it can get cold!
Gary, we are planning to beach it in Grand Cayman... if you are interested, by all means, we'd be happy to have you and Gail join us... don't forget your thong... those electric cars look very cool!! do you think I could trust Randy on one of those? I bet he could figure out a way to make it go faster...
I read in the Dreams Unlimited newsletter that they don't have filet on the menu anymore for the Captain's Gala. They replaced it with turkey!! what's that all about? For my red meat loving family, this is just not good!! Hopefully they will keep it on the menu at Palo...

The Dec 18, 2003 cruise is at 915. We've got six weeks to go and ought to be able to beat that number.
Can we get pumped up about this cruise?
Who has gotten docs yet? What our our plans if it is raining on sail-away day? Can we do a conga line around one of the decks? How about something great for the boat drill? Do we want the Disney photographer to take a group picture of us with our hats?
Let's find things for The4OfUs's kids to think about rather than school problems.

As far as it raining during sale away...can you say "Mickey Raincoat". Come On. How many of you don't own at least two them. We once went to illuminations in during an electical storm and it was the most spectacular Illuminations display we have ever seen!!!
Is everyone bringing bubble soap for the sail away party? We did it last time along with a couple other families, but a crowd of 100 doing it. That would be something!!! :grouphug:

Only six weeks from tomorrow, we will be sailing away!!! Dean, you have six weeks to get your Mickey poncho.... you are not the only one, we don't have them either!
Any docs yet?! :hyper: I did a search on documents to try and hit on a thread to find out how far in advance they are sent. Well, I hit on the January 24th Magic thread and some of those folks starting getting them this past week. These were people who did not book their air through DCL. But, also some said they didn't get them yet even though they didn't book air. I would LOVE to get mine before Christmas, but it's getting close. I wanted to wrap the docs up is they came since Santa is bringing the trip and DS doesn't know about it yet. I better scout something else to wrap up this weekend!!
Speaking of the weekend -- last one to finish up things for Christmas! :earseek: How is everyone doing?! I think we are in decent shape, but still have things to do this weekend. I think some umbrella drinks may be in order this weekend while I am finishing up things.

Wow, time is SO flying!
Kim and Dean, I'm sure several of us have extra Mickey ponchos - not to worry! I wonder if you could find them on EBAY?
Docs? Our last cruise we got them about 6 weeks before - but this time we only just got our shore excursion material last week. hmmmm. I just need to have them by Jill's last day of school - 1/15/04.
Cap, now, I'm thinking that it would be really hard to pass the 12/18/04 cruise in number of posts since that is a very active group, I know, I'm part of it. We just hit 1 year till sailing yesterday. There are a few hundred people involved in that thread! AND all of you will decide to join us next year - y'hear that DEAN???? We'll have all kids and fiances etc. with us on that one!
Kim, that was a real low blow about Christmas shopping! I haven't begun. Of course, I'm only spending about $25 on each kid cause they are getting THE cruise next year. I do feel guilty, tho.
On AIM I'm Kabuli1 - anyone out there on it - put me on your buddy list - I'm hanging around the computer most of the time (when I'm not packing)!
The4ofUs, that's so scary about your kid's school. I think I would just start vacation a day early. Sounds like the kiddies need a mental health day! Do let us know what you decided. Praying for you here!
Dean, I think you'll enjoy the Grand Cayman tour you've selected - but I still think Matt should come with us!::yes::
Randy took the red-eye home from Seattle, he'll be here now till 1/1. He's snoozing and I'll be going out to see ROTK for the 3rd time this morning (my justification is that I'm going w/ a friend who hasn't seen it yet and this way I won't be noisy while Radny sleeps - not that I am noisy, but just in case . . .). JIll just staggered out of bed and out the door- heading to her 11th-to-the-last-day of HS!
Have a great day, everybody - just think, six weeks from this evening some of us will be on the Illuminations cruise and having our first drink together - how cool is that?
Cheers!

I drove my son to school today after a drs. appt, and was happy to see HOW seriously they are taking this. The police presence was VERY obvious, from the cruisers out front to the officers in the front lobby/office. The second the kids came in, they were instructed to drop their bags and coats in the cafeteria, where the police would be searching them, and then go to the classroom - they'll be called to get their stuff when it's been cleared. The school was airtight and there was a HUGE atmosphere of concern, so that helped my kids, who were both scared to death.
Rumor is that it was a teenager/young adult who masqueraded as a chaperone...but you know rumors.
No more info yet. *sigh*
My son asked me what to do if the shooting started. At nine, he's asking me how to survive a shooting. How sick is that. :(
I told him to listen to his teacher, because she'll take care of him, no matter what....and that this is probably a joke, a bad one, but not to worry.
We'll see if the school can say more than "Its confidential" when we call after today!!

HI everyone,
I've been off for a few days because of holiday preparations.
I just read the post by Jami about the stingray 'sucking' incident... please tell me you got pictures!!! That's better than my 'finger chewing' story! I'd almost want to put the juice on my suit to see them do that. He he he...
I put the food in my hand wrong this last time and one sucked my middle fingers into it's mouth and did it's best to eat them. I had to be very insistent to get them back! It didn't hurt much, it was more concern that I would have to fight hard, but it was ok. For a couple of hours I had the pattern of it's bite plate on my knuckles, but it was just a new experience...
One bit of info for you first time snorkelers, if you want to do it more than just once, buying your own gear is nice, you get some that really fits and you don't have to swap spit with whoever used that rental equipment last. Just a thought. Ours only cost us about $40 each for everything at Gart sports. We take it on all of our cruises and whenever we go to the beach now. It's handy, and cheaper than renting it just a few times.
have a great day all, and don't be jealous of Orlando weather, it was almost down to 30* last night!

How cool is that? We're looking for docs now??? Shingle, do they send out the farther away docs earlier just in case? I know that some people in the US have gotten their docs as late as two weeks before, or even less - that would be nail biting if you were coming from the UK! Any of us "Stateside" people get them yet? What a great Christmas present! I'm dealing w/ both DVC and Du for this one - it will be interesting to see if they come separately or together. Dean, they usually send out the docs that include air later than the rest. Sorry!
We have our own snorkel equipment - got really good stuff from a local dive institute. I needed corrected lenses because I'm so blind w/o my glasses. So while I was getting a really good mask, I also got a great waterless snorkel and fabulous fins (very nifty looking). I keep my snorkel stuff and special "cruise" gear packed and ready to go all the time.
So, who's packed yet? UGH! I said the "P" word!
It's 46 at 6am in Puyallup right now, and 14 here! And you wonder why I'm moving!
Tonight is the neighborhood progressive dinner that starts here w/ appetisers- I have much to do to get ready. But, instead I'm going back to see ROTK (again) w/ my best friend. The Randy Man says he'll do the cleaning while I'm out - what a guy! And my B-day isn't for 11 days yet!

I can't do the document dance yet BUT I did get my Passporter in the mail yesterday... what a great book!!!
Sorry Dean, but if docs go to those who are the furthest away first, then we will have to nudge you out of second spot...
I haven't started packing yet, but I do have everything washed and my list is pretty much finalized... This time I don't want to be overburdened with luggage so I'm trying to pack smarter than I have in the past and not take my entire closet with me... (no comments needed from goofyaboutmickey7 about that one...)
I need to finish up with some Christmas shopping, and get the house clean, and then I think I can sit back and relax...:goodvibes
Annie,
When and where did you order your Passporter? I've had one on order since October 3 and it's been backordered.

I went to the local Barnes & Noble and picked one up....are they generally hard to find? I didn't get the fancy one, just the paperback, but it's still a pretty addicting book. :)

We're Watching ships come in on the Key West web cam. No Magic yet!
Cap, what's your DVC home resort?
HADD!!! :wave2:
Gary & Gail,
We own DVC at three locations, Boardwalk, Vero Beach, and Hilton Head. We love them all. Boardwalk for the parks and the fun / spontaneity of the boardwalk, Vero for the sun and ocean, and Hilton Head for the beauty and quiet.
We usually do Hilton Head for a week in October. Since we drive to / from Michigan, the autumn colors are wonderful in the West Virginia area, and Hilton Head is generally quiet and half empty.

The one I really want to do is the 30+ day trip hiking in New Zealand (Elderhostel does NOT equal 'old' people in the least) that takes you to all the places from the Lord of the Rings movies!

This is sort of off topic, but I had to tell you about Wishes! It's the new fireworks at the MK. We can see them from afar from our windows at home, but that isn't at all like being in MK. Last night we went with friends and were totally in awe of the artistry, magnitude, and beauty of the show and music and narration. I really hope you can all take a night and see them in Jan. because it's the best fireworks I've ever seen. As you might guess, I love fireworks, but this was good enough that my DH loved them too. People were singing Christmas carols on the way out of the park afterwards and as we were walking down Main Street it started to 'snow. They sure know how to do the holidays right at Disney... not that I'm partial or anythingprincess: :teeth: It was the best time I've had in months!
On another note, you may want to check the weather before packing if you're coming here before the cruise:rolleyes: it was only 30* last night!!!:goodvibes Man, I'd forgotten how cold cold can be! BRRRRR....

Renae, I've been hearing that WISHes is spectacular - and we didn't stay to watch them when we were last there - in fact we left MK just before the fireworks started. Dumb Dumb Dumb!
grandma, glad to see you're still out there, been quiet lately haven't you?
Dean what's with the magnet thing? Did I miss something? Hey glad you enjoyed my favorite movie. I wouldn't be surprised if it were playing on the Magic when we sail. I know at least the first one did. I saw it for the 5th time yesterday, but people around me were laughing at all the wrong stuff and talking all the way thru - couldn't quite hold on to the magic that way. I did my part for opening weekend box office sales. I consider watching it therapy. I figure for the cost of one hour with a therapist I can get 35 hours of LOTR! There you go!
I've been thinking about incentives to help me get my packing done. (No, I'm not talking about my cruise packing!) I was thinking if I had some recipes, I could pack a box, have a boat drink, pack another one, have another one! Not sure how effective it would be since I would only ever get about 3 boxes packed before I passed out - but it was a thought.
What a wonderful way to count down to the big 50! Turns out Randy forgot to plan anything for the big day, so I'm going to wait a month and start celebrating w/ the illuminations cruise and then for the next week w/ at least 50 of my best DIS friends!:teeth: Remind me to get my license renewed this week!
I haven't even started Christmas shopping! I know I'm not really getting anything for anybody, but I did plan to buy something small for each.
:hyper: So we're all hanging out by the front door waiting for docs? Woah, there's UPS outside my door . . . wait, that's just a Christmas present, (need a boat drink to ease my pain) I don't want no stinkin Christmas presents! I WANT MY DOCS!!!!::yes::
What happens if I accidentally pack my docs in a box someplace? That would not be a good thing.
I raise a cup of Seattle's Best to each and everyone of you today! Cheers and have a truly blessed week.
Love you all,
Karyn

*grin* I would LOVE to see it on the ship, when can we find out what's playing?? I'm a huge and rabid fan of the books, since I was a little girl and my aunt was friends with Tolkien from her time at Cambridge - I admit to being a tad upset that they pulled some scenes like with Saruman, AND changed the ending!!!! Even my 9 yr old is upset at that... "that's NOT how it ends, mommy! Why did they do that!!" *grumble* But still, I'm sure I'll love it - there are so few movies that hold to the books well, and this series is one - the Harry Potter series is another - and my favorite book/movie interpretation, "Rebecca" - Hitchcock did a WONDERFUL job with that one.
RAIN on Xmas eve here in the Boston area...the ONE time you really want it to snow! Go figure, huh....

The4OfUs, I really doubt that it will be showing on the Magic for our cruise because it will still be in first-run theaters and it's outside the Disney brand. I imagine it will show up on the ship in March or April. Which ending did you object to? The absense of the Scouring of the Shire? It did end with the final words straight from the book. I'd been following all the spoilers online so I knew what to expect. Anyway - not a great fan of the HP movies - nor of JK Rowling anymore - loved the first 4 books - but she's too big for her britches anymore and the last was horrible (that woman needs an editor!)- we can have that discussion on the ship! All time favorite book: Pride and Predjudice (followed closely by LOTR - have read that at least 50 times) liked the BBC version better than A&E (although, sigh . . . Colin Firth!). Looking forward to great discussions!
Dean, you are correct - there will be no Magic till the packing is done. I consider it my terminus ad quo!

AH! Yes, total agreement w/the BBC version, although I got the A&E version for Xmas last year...and I LOVE it. I have P&P, Persuasion and Northanger Abby on my cell phone, for when I'm stuck on the subway with nothing to read! *grin*
And re: the 5th HP - maybe it's the mommy in me, but didnt' you just want to SLAP Harry and tell him to stop being such a pouty whiney TEENAGER!? I read to get away from mine! *wink* I still love the movies, and am looking forward to June, but to be honest, can NOT see beautiful Emma Thompson in the role of the wacky divinations teacher... Guess we'll see, but she's too "sense and sensability" to be that...ridiculous.
Guess I'll just have to see LoTR in the theater, darn it! *snicker*
And the ending, without ruining it for those who haven't seen it, although my son accidentally did it for me yesterday by telling me this (he got it from my best friend's exchange student who went to see it yesterday and talked to him about it)...it's how the ring is "disposed" of...and yes, removing the Souring of the Shire, and the final battle with Sarumon, etc...they really made it "happily ever after", didn't they...that's Hollywood for ya. ;) I'm sure it'll all be on the DVDs so we can spend MORE money for the special releases, which you KNOW I will!
edit - I just spoke to a friend who saw this, and found out that my son is more than likely mistaken in how the ring is disposed of, and apparently it DOES follow the book closely...so just ignore that bit, and I'll shut up till I get the honor of experiencing this movie myself! :teeth:

We have about 2 inches of fluffy white stuff outside, and tho I think s*** is a four-letter word, it sure looks pretty for Christmas. I hope I don't forget to put out the luminaria tonight!
DS #2 is on his way home, there're a (very) few gifts to wrap, and church services to attend this evening! (oh and I've got to get some more packing done. It will be a Christmas like no other for us, but Christmas none the less because we are celebrating our Lord's birth and will e with loved ones!

My docs arrived yesterday! It was great to get them, but unfortunately I did not get an upgrade or have first seating for dinner confirmed. This is my 4th Disney Cruise, so I was hoping for an upgrade, but we have adjoining cat 10 rooms, so I knew that it was a long shot.
We have a total of 5 people in our rooms - I wonder if I should tell Disney that they could upgrade us into ONE Cat 4 room? I know that it is a longshot, but one can dream...

That's about 9.4 posts every day. So it's up to each of us to check in every day. I know we can count on Dean, Kim, Gary, Cap, Nikki and myself (perhaps too often!) to chime in. Randy and Annie, where you been? AND then there are the less oftens - you need to start pulling you weight here, ya hear that, shingle, grandmaX2, Scott? Well, my illness is not abating - DAMN these viral things, with the "there is no medicine to take" issue. *sigh* So I'm more than happy to babble on, because I can't TALK without sounding like Yoda (the voice, not the vocabulary).
We're actually travelling to FL on the 30th, and staying overnight at the Hyatt, to ensure that the wonderful New England weather does not affect our trip... Of course, you know I just jinxed it...
Still no docs for us, but it will go to my mother-in-law first, and she hasn't said a word. WHOO HOO!!
We were going to do Palo on the last night, my birthday, but I want to spend that night with the kids in the restaurant...so we're going to do it on Wed. night instead - that's the tropical night I think, so I'd rather miss that in the regular restaurant rotation than the last night.

I'm going to see what our rotation is before I decide what night to do Palo. I would rather skip Animator's Palate - it does absolutely nothing for me, my least favorite restaurant. I'm hoping for LAPLAPL rotation. Last year we had PLAPLAP which was ok, I'd be happy w/ that, but not the kids rotation APLAPLA. If we get that one Dean, we're all going to the table change desk and fixing it! Did I mention I don't like Animator's Palate?
Is everybody planning on doing the brunch in Palo? It is wonderful. I think we'll do it Sunday morning before heading into Key West? Want to join us? ut if I get LAP like I want I'd have to do Palo that night for dinner as well - this is getting confusing. But if we do Palo for dinner, we could do an early one and get to the SSuper Bowl Party on time and Gary wouldn't have to save seats for as long . . . . This is so difficult. Then there's afternoon tea at Palo, Randy's not thrilled at the thought, any of you ladies want to join me?:teeth:

Dean, I'm glad that you are working today. There need to be a few workers to support us retired ones. ;) Technically I'm not retired until New Years day, but not having the alarm go off at zero dark 30 was great today.
It's raining here in Michigan, and I don't think a Mickey Poncho is going to handle it, considering the low temperature. I'm off for one of the yearly joyfull events, paying the property tax bill.

Oooh, Kim, where is that report? I wondered if anyone had done it yet because it said that it started 1/1/04, but I wanted an idea of what a "romantic turn down" is. DH is a tad uptight about the couples massage, I'm trying to get him to relax about it...I'm sure he can beg off if need be.
I'd love to do that Palo thing Sunday - when is the DVC meeting tho? Isn't it that day too, from 10-11? *confused*
Ya know...everytime I feel like I'm kicking this thing, it takes another turn - last night I had a night like never before - I have never been so completely bone-chillingly COLD like last night. It made me cry, it was like lying in a snowstorm naked, my limbs hurt and no matter what I could not get warm. I did my best, stole all the body heat I could from anyone near me, but all that did is make them sweat and I still was ice cold. FInally got up around midnight and did the four Advil thing...and that helped a bit - but today I feel dizzy and "not myself" mentally, and my cough is back with a vengence...so I might be making yet another trip to Good Ol' Dr. today....but like you said, Cap, and like I told DS today, thank goodness it is NOW and not in 33 days!!
Speaking of Gollum...wonder how bad I'd be if I took 3 1/2 hrs to sit in a theater today.... *evil grin*

Found it in the cruise report thingie-ma-bob (the technical term I'll have you know!)
I had booked the ROMANCE PACKAGE and so we had been able to make Palo reservations before leaving home, so we went to the Spa and booked our couple’s message. Note on the ROMANCE PACKAGE: the cost was $299. It included tea roses in the room ($39), Romance basket with chocolates, champagne, and a photo album in the room ($54), dinner at Palo for 2 ($20), a couples message ($178), and a day in the rainforest for 2 ($30), for a total of $321. In addition, I was able to make my reservations over the phone from home for Dinner, Tea, and Brunch at Palo, as well as pick my dinner rotation.
So...ADVISE THE NEWBIE TIME you guys...if I do get to pick my rotation, where would I want to be on Formal night? I see that AP is not a hit for some, but being the first time, that's the one I'm most looking forward to, just for the view....but where would I want to be for formal night? I also get to prebook tea and brunch, is brunch daily? And the rainforest thing - I wasn't going to try that, but if it's included....
:p
Any thoughts?

This makes 15 posts for the day - and it's not yet 9am here! At this rate how far can we go?
Nikki, you don't get to choose your rotation, but: the APL rotation puts you in Lumiere's for formal and semi-formal night on the Western - and for some reason it's the "kid" rotation. So if you have young children you will probably be on that rotation. LAP tends to be the adult rotation and sticks the "adults" in Parrot Cay for the fancy nights - go figure! I don't really care. One of the reasons I don't like Animator's Palatte is that we were stuck in the way back corner by the kitchen w/ a view of a stack of chairs. I was very good and didn't complain, cause somebody has to sit back there - but I will NOT do it on another cruise, I already took my turn. Another reason is that there are no Windows and I don't like the closed in feeling. On PLA we were there for the dress up nights. It was a good rotation otherwise cause I didn't mind three nights in Parrot Cay, I like the funky wild Caribbean theme there.
Brunch is only on Sea days and Key West morning. Tea only on sea days. Oh and we loved the Rainforest - Randy especially.
That Gollum thing, sure you can take 3.5 hours in the theater, (tho, I'm not sure people around you are going to appreciated it if you cough the whole time)! I'm supposed to go (again) myself this evening w/ friends - it's only the 7th time, but who's counting? There are a couple of spots in the movie when Gollum souds just like yoda - at least it sounded like that to me, tho I know Frank Oz and Andy Serkis are different people.
I think I'm obsessed! There are only 3 foci in my life right now: ROTK, this cruise and what was the other . . . . ? Cant remember, must be getting old!

Ah, I see said the blind man to his deaf sons....well, my kids are "tweens" - they'll be 10 and 11 at the time of the cruise...so I wonder which that means.
I completely understand about the bad table thing - being married to a chef, I get a totally different experience than you "normal" people at restaurants! *grin* I hadn't thougth about the window thing!!
I read in that trip report that the Romance Package had them marked as "VIP" for Palo, and they got window seats...that would be beyond cool...
*sniffle*
Maybe I'll watch the National Geographic special "Beyond the Return of the King"...instead of infecting my fellow movie goers... *sigh*

12-29-2003, 10:24 AM
When I read that report, it sounded like she did get to pick the rotation because of doing the Romance Package. How Karyn described it is the way I have read things fall out. I am figuring that we will be APL since we will have small kids at our table. And anytime I read of adults w/o any small kids, they seem to get LAP. I have also read of people with in between kids getting the PLA. But it will be interesting to see if you get to select yours. If you can't select it, I would think they would have to tell you before you can start making your advance Palo reservations.
Does anyone know which morning you have the character breakfast based on your rotation? I know the character breakfasts will be Key West and the two at sea days. I want to see if I can find out the formula so I will know our character breakfast day as soon as I see my rotation in order to know what day to try for Palo brunch.

Return of the King was excellent. You will really enjoy it. I am getting curious as to what Disney movies will be showing on the ship when we are on. My son is at the perfect age for the Disney movies, so we will have fun with that.
I have set my priorities for when I board as:
1) Attempt to change my dinner seating time to First Seating
2) Palo Reservations for Mexi night (Dont like mexican food)
3) Lunch

ExACTly our thoughts!! We'll be seeing you there then! That's the night we're doing it too.
My TA/MIL just said that she called Disney and she can't make our ressies until the 31st of Dec, and that she can book our seats for air 30 days out, so within a few days of THAT we'll get our docs. So I'm not holding my breath for that today. :)

I was thinking about that Romance Package for DW too for a Christmas present. Then, "somebody" talked me in to bringing our DS along and most of the romance flew out the verandah. Hmmmm, wonder who that was? Oh, by the way, got your packing all done yet Karyn?
Maybe I can sneak in the Rainforest thing. Is that something that can be done in advance or when we arrive?

To The4ofUs,
Judi and I had the couples massage this last Spring at Castaway Cay. It was very nice, relaxing, and non-threatening. Judi had to talk me into it. Having done it once, I would do it again.

Yeah, right, Dean! Blame it all on ME!!!! Well, according to Nikki, Disney doesn't book your air till 30 days out and then you get your docs - So I'll get mine first! So there! And the romance thing - just tell Matt to knock first! Oh and there's a deadbolt on the door! LOL! I told you, send him with us in Grand Cayman and the two of you can act like the honeymooners you are! Hey, there's still romance to be had - do one of the couples things at the spa - verrrrry nice. There's always the Surial Bath. The Rainforest can be signed up for at any time. Randy will almost certainly sign up for the whole week again - he loves steam rooms and saunas.
I love the scented showers down there. In fact, I used the showers in the spa rather than in the room cause they were bigger and had great hair products and cleansing lotions. (I was also competeing w/DH and two teenage girls for shower time - so I threw in the towel and went to the spa instead.
So, are we all skipping Mexicalli night and heading to Palo?
Scott, I love ROTK - have only seen it 6 times so far, I'm slipping up somewhere! Your best plan for arrival is to send one of you to the table chage and the other to Palo - then you get to lunch quicker! Oh and depending on how young your child is, you may need to sign up for evening child care as soon as you get on board. But, I really don't know too much about that.
Kim's right, people w/tweens usually get PLA (which I liked very much) but remember folks - this is only the "usual" pattern, exceptions occur all the time. Our last cruise we just figured out what we would do depending on which rotation we got. I had a chart that I dug out while in line and gave directions to Randy. I went up to the spa to reserve different things, hw did Palo Reservations then we went to Parrot Cay for lunch. We lost Jill and her cousin immediately - (I just asked her, they went up to Topsiders for lunch).
This is so cool, actually starting to plan for a real and SOON cruise. But so much to do before then!

Just passed out for about an hour in bed...first I was freezing, now I'm dying from the heat. *sigh* A call to the dr and a second opinion informed me that "viral bronchitis" is med-speak for "the flu"...so much for the stupid shot! *sigh*
Yeah, my MIL/TA said that they open the seating charts 30 days from the day of the flight...and that they fax info about pre-booking Palo anywhere from 30-45 days out....so we'll see, hopefully I'll be doin' the document dance sometime early next week!!
Hey, sunshine and orange juice are good for the flu, right? That's that, I'm going now, everyone can meet me there....

Dean, don't slink off and sulk! Have you figured out yet why the rest of us plan our own airfare? It's simply cause we don't want to wait as long for docs! (that and the fact that for many of us we can do it a whole lot cheaper watching for specials.) I don't think my docs will come today either, Dean, just a feeling I have. I won't find out till later since I'm going out to see my favorite movie very shortly. I just have to make sure Randy's up and awake before I leave, I don't want Miss JIll answering the door for the UPS guy.
Does this make 29? If we manage 33 everyday plus a few on the last Friday for those who haven't left yet, we could make it to 2000! Whadya think?

Seven times in the theater! *grin* That's cool! When Star Wars first came out (geez, not dating myself at all am I) I saw it in the theaters like 27 times...I can still pretty much quote that entire movie...

Now I want to watch it.
But wait! "Worlds Apart" is on National Geo. Channel tonight! Anyone with kids, I suggest this highly...nothing like watching kids brought up on nintendo go to a third world country and try to fit in....

Wow! 36 posts today, we will make it to 2000! I'm so proud of all of you!
Dean, I think I will be in the Bitter End Club with you! No docs for me today! Maybe cause our docs are linked for dinner, they don't want me gloating over you. I humbly ask your forgiveness in sack cloth and ashes!
Yes! ROTK for the 7th time is STILL good! Nikki, I was proud of seing Star Wars in the theater 13 times that summer! Wow, you must have been a very young thing back then - I was a year out of college. You all know how old I am so that's giving nothing away. Ok, if we're doing the confession thing here's my LOTR tally: Fellowship of the Ring: 30 times in the theater (now folks you have to remember that this movie is at least 1 hour longer than Star Wars so that's 91 hours- two times the extended version!); a few less times seeing The Two Towers: 20 to be exact, only once extended so a mere 60.5 hours. Now, I figure that w/ ROTK being the last and best I have to see it more often than FOTR.
So, it was good to see Mark show up for an appearance on the thread! You could come back every now and then and wave at us. We do need your input as often as possible to move this thread closer to the top.
I'm still waiting for my ship to come in, need those boat drinks!

Boy, Karyn, we will need someone to take a picture of us when we finally meet. You, with your goofy lime green hat. Me, with the same goofy green hat, a lime green DIS t-shirt, and the best pair of lime green sneakers that anyone has ever seen. I'll look like a giant avacodo when I return your hug! :earseek:
Hey, Gary, are we still planning a big DIS meet on board? You had mentioned about 3:30 PM. This first time cruiser, and long time coward, doesn't want to miss the life boat drill. But still want to meet everybody. What say you?
It will be a long day working today before the holiday. We'll finish up around 9:30 tonite. Then, I'll take my girls out for a New Year's "boat drink" when we finish. So, I'm not ignoring you, just won't be able to reply today like I did yesterday. Have a great day!

LOL! Well, let's see, it came out in...76?? Wait, someone check the IMDB!! I was born in 67, so if that's the case I was...NINE? No WAY! My European mom would never have let me see it alone with friends like I remember - my cousin from England took me the first time, and we had to sit way down in front, and the scene where they try to blow up the Death Star by flying thru that canyon...I remember feeling motion sickness...
I think Ive learned the key to kicking this flu's butt...ADVIL NON-STOP. I hurt and I'm home sick again today, but it's not like yesterday. Of course, now my DS is coughing and barking like a seal and sniffling....*sigh* I'm starting him on Advil immediately...

OK, DIS meet! As I posted before, our DIS group on the last cruise met on Deck 4 outside Studio Sea. It's actually the balcony of the Atrium so it's a great place for a picture with lots of room. 3:30 P.M. is an hour before the boat drill and gives us time to get back to our rooms to put on our lovely, figure flatering life preservers! This plan worked well for us last time. I also like the soap bubble idea for the Sail-Away party! Nikki, Star Wars came out in 1977. The first time I saw it I was in the very front row of the Cinerama theater in Seattle. I think from then on I made the friends I took to it see it from the front. This is NOT an option w/ big action movies now cause it all becomes such a blur. (Especailly when you're old like me!)
I'm sorry you're feeling bad. And to anyone out there who does start coming down w/ this year's influenza - go to the MD immediately and get them to give you a scrip for Tamiflu - it really helps shorten the disease.
I'm worried about Randy, my cousin was supposed to fly here then drive across to Seattle with him - but she's just come down w/ the big flu herself. they have a big family and all fo them are getting it. I don't want Randy to a. drive across by himself or b. catch this nasty stuff. Hey Dean are you anywhere near I-90? Randy should be getting to SD about time for a night's sleep.
Please stay well everybody!
