Ok, ok, I'll dance a little! The cruise is such a reward, such a prize for what we're going to be doing in the meanwhile!

We had a nice quick trip to Lexington, KY. I'm such a proud mom watching my son perform! I wish we could bring him as well on the cruise - but that will have to wait till the 12/18/04 10 cruise. They frown on kids taking a week out of school when they are in college, imagine that! At my insistence, Miss Jill applied to UKy (mostly cause the application was so simple) and has been accepted. She swears she won't go there, but if she doesn't get busy w/ the apps for the places she is interested in, she'll be going there by default. That's ok w/ us, only one place to visit. Still don't know where our eldest will land when he finds a job - hopefully out west.

Got a job interview today for a part time, temp job till the end of January. I gotta get ready, oh, and there are still boxes to pack and rooms to get ready!

Dancing today!

I've got on my dancing shoes!!!

Welcome back Karyn -- you're not moving to Lexington now, are you? ;) We saw what happened the last time you took a weekend trip. Good luck on your interview!

Have a good weekend everyone! Get out your dancing shoes and fire up the blender!!! :teeth: :sunny:

I'm baaaaaack!

DW had surgery yesterday and family always comes first, especially when it is your best friend.

But, now I'm doing the double digit dance and kicking up the heels as high as an old guy can. So far, that's about a sixteenth of an inch. Here's a little food for thought:

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. "
~Frank Sinatra

"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."

Another bump! Where is everybody? At least I've got an excuse!

Dean how's the DW? Feeling better?

Anybody want to come out here and spend a few days packing boxes with me? I've got a nice wine collection that we could make quite a dent in! You don't need to be totally sober to pack! And we could plan all the fun things we're going to do on the Magic!

Can you tell I'm getting desperate!

Good Morning!

Thank you for asking, Karyn. DW is MUCH better. I know what you mean about everybody in hiding. Maybe they don't want to be associated with a bunch of happy Disney drinkers, huh?

How's Jill holding up with all of the stuff going on? Matt's doing much better. We got him a new Sunfire so he's got wheels again and actually looking forward to the cruise.

If you come across your ressy numbers, let me know, please. Then I'll call and talk to them about joing your table for dinner.

Gary! Time to chime in, it is your turn. Not laid up with double-digit-itis, are you?

Have a good week, all!

I will definately be trying some new boat drinks on this cruise.:boat:

Dean, I'm glad DW and Matt are both feeling better. Wow, second new car in such a short time! Same color? Has he gotten his college apps done yet? I can't get Jill to write her "personal statement" she's claiming writer's block and hasn't gotten anything on paper for three weeks now! That's ok, she's been accepted at UKy (where her big bro is) - I don't mind visiting only one campus! But she wants a school in Florida - well, chickidoodle, ya gotta get that essay done!

Gary, I was missing you too! I don't have time to be here - but one needs a ray of sunshine in the midst of all the chaos.

"Double digititus!" That was too funny, it really made me smile. What are the symptoms?

Boat drinks! I want a boat drink!

In-laws (bless them) are coming today to help w/ some of the projects, gotta get ready for them!

Bump from page 3!

Karyn, we're just getting started now on our essay. Looks like he'll be staying in South Dakota at Northern State. We'll make formal application over the weekend. We went with him two weeks ago and toured the campus, met some of the professors, and he had lunch with some female friends while we ate with the tour guides. Yep, think he has the college itinerary down pat.

This is my first exposure to "double-digit-itis" so looked it up in the Goofy unabridged medical encyclopedia. It says that the person books a special event months in advance of when they really want to take a vacation. Then, they bet that they are going to get sick enough they can't go and buy insurance so they can get their money back. When the planner is 99 days, 23 hours and 59 seconds from the scheduled departure date, it is required that they start to act like a fool, jumping up and down, yelling and screaming that they have reached double digit status, and begin threatening to down repeated tropical beverages. At 60 days, the person realizes Disney has used his money without paying any interest so they promise to spend MORE by booking shore excursions. By the time they reach 30 or so days, or if they plan a cross country move for employment, they have gone completely cuckoo and can't think of anything else so they start digging up their yard and flower gardens. Must be a terrible sight.

Take care,
Dean

We got our DIS t-shirts today!!! Very stylish!:groom:
We will post pictures of us modeling them soon.

I will be picking up Randy and Ann at the Toronto Airport
Friday evening as they will be our guests for the week-end.

Be our guests...... I bet that would make a good song!;)

Thanks for the explanation of "double-digit-itis" Dean! :rotfl:

I met with the guy at the hat place Saturday and he can't get lime green visors but he thought a lime green bucket hat would appeal to everyone and be more convenient on a cruise. He could do them for around $9 with embriodery.

Dean, that was one of the funniest things I've read in a long long time! I can't stop laughing over it!

Gary, I love the lime green hats! I'll take three! Sounds like som much fun being with Randy and Ann this weekend. How far is it to the Toronto airport?

MIL and I are up, getting ready to tackle the day. The kitchen is almost done! The men are sleeping still. Gotta go get Jill up for school.

Have a great one, everybody.

Dean - what a riot! That was too funny! :rotfl:

Gary - I love the bucket hat. I will take 2. Thanks for coordinating it and doing the legwork? What are we going to get put on them? Did anyone give you any ideas? Have fun with Randy and Ann this weekend -- sounds like fun!

Karyn - sounds like you are making good progress! I see that your digging is done -- just in time before snow hits!!! :earseek:

I heard this morning that it snowed somewhere in Minnesota last night -- I figure it can't be too long now!! :worried: DH and I moved Oct. 30th 10 years ago -- it snowed 6 inches on Halloween that year. They were just talking about it on the radio this morning.

Hope everyone is having a good week and recovering from the double digit-itis! :cool1:

Great pictures! It looks like Gary, Gail, Randy, and Ann were having a fun weekend! I can't wait to hear about the cruise plans!

Dean, I have pictures on webshots and have not had any luck getting them to come through on the boards. I don't know why. In fact, on Friday I was trying to post DS, Luke, in his Rollie Pollie Ollie Halloween costume which I have on webshots, but there was just an 'x' in my post. I was able to get his picture with Mr. Snee to come in my signature only when I posted it on the wdwinfo site instead of linking it to webshots. So, I don't know if webshots might be why you can't get it to come up within you post. But the link works too!!

Gary, I see your Steeler hat in the background! When we first booked this cruise, John and I were wondering if there was a chance that we might miss out on Steeler Superbowl parties back home -- I don't think that's going to be the case :( But on a brighter note... Go Panthers! :yo-yo: We will be at the VT game on Saturday night. We shall see which Panther team shows up :worried: Like life, the Panther team is like 'a box of chocolates'...

Have a disney day everyone !!! :wave2:

Ah ha! I see the towel now! I didn't notice it the first time.

We are having opposite weather from you, Dean. It's sunny and supposed to reach 76 today! It was warm on Halloween too. Before Halloween, it wouldn't be cold so that DS wouldn't need to put a coat over his costume and then it was so warm that he was sweating in it!

Good Morning, Everyone!!

What a great day.... 28 degrees, everything coated with ice and I'm at work. What a dork I am.

Karyn is out there and getting frustration after frustration. First she's being overwhelmed by all of the house stuff. Now, she can't get to the DIS boards because of networking or server problems. She misses all of us and needs somebody to talk to. So, when you get a minute, drop her a note and say "HI". Her email is Kabuli1@aol.com.

Good morning!

How could anyone be grumpy two days in a row? Especially on a crisp "Disney" day like today where it is 16 degrees and everything you walk on crackles like the sound of a burning log fireplace.

Haven't heard from Karyn today. But, I'm sure she is checking in on us from time to time. I know she is anxious to get back and join in.

I've had a heck of time getting any photos to post so was REALLY glad when finally got this one to show up in my signature block.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Dean

I like your signature block too, Dean!! I was about to post and mention to you that I read on the tech board that Imagestation was a good place to upload photos to and link to them for inclusion on posts. Then I checked the properties on your new one and that's where it resides. I have had problems linking to photos on Webshots, too. I really think webshots is the problem, not you Dean!

And thanks for posting Karyn's family photo. It's cool seeing everyone!

I can't believe it's November already!! But it's getting closer to our magical cruise! It will be here before we know it. I booked rooms for my sister's and my families for the night before the cruise. I did it through priceline and got the Holiday Inn Select at the airport. I hope it's an okay place, but it's only for one night anyway. I thought it might work out well with the kids, since their ad says kids stay and eat free. So at least that's settled.

Well, have a rainy day, everyone! -- at least for those of us in the 'Burgh (and maybe Gary too!)

Haven't heard anything more from Karyn. Hope she gets her computer problems fixed soon and rejoins us.

Do any of you have experience with Mr. Sancho's? Been thinking about that for one of our excursions. Being a cruise rookie, never really sure what is good and what isn't. Appreciate any info anyone may have.

Hi Dean! I think your cold weather is moving our way! I think we are going to be freezing at the Pitt-Va Tech game on Saturday night!! I will have to think Magic(al) thought during the game -- to keep warm and for the Pitt team!

We were at Mr. Sanchos last year and really enjoyed it! It was a lovely beach with palapas (tables shaded by palm leaf roof), white sand and beautiful blue water. The sand wasn't as powdery as at 7 Mile beach in Grand Cayman -- it was more like little shells and reminded me of sesame seeds. It was a beautiful beach. We had a very nice time there. It is a nice place to relax, go in the water, try the water trampoline... There were facilities and a restaurant. I had the best guacamole that I have ever tasted, there! It is very easy to get there in a cab on your own, too.

We may go there again this time. The other I am considering is Chankanaab. There isn't as much of a beach there, but there is snorkeling and a Dolphin encounter. For us it will depend on whether everyone wants a beach day, or if some want to snorkel, then we might opt for Chankanaab.

:sunny: Think warm thoughts! :sunny: Think Magic cruise :boat:

I just got a nice note from Karyn. I'm sure she won't mind if I share most of it with you.

Sorry I haven't checked in everyday! I am here, and I am reading the thread. Everyday I try and everyday I get bounced! SOOOOOO! Randy's back from his first commute out to WA, was setting up his office and making appts. mostly. He didn't like the record cold snap and the early snow, but loved the crystal clear view of Mt Ranier and the Olympics! He threatened not to come back, but then I mentioned something about "desertion" and he did return. We go to WDW next week for college visits and a little Food and Wine Festival. We will spend Sat at Epcot w/ our tablemates from last Nov.'s Magic cruise. Maybe next year you can join us!

I've been packing and cleaning and painting and staining! The place is a mess, but I'm told that I am making progress. I just wish it was all over, NOW! We are hoping to make serious steps in the next couple days since Randy has sold his piano business and can give me alot more time on the house now. We just have very different approaches to what has to be done. I guess it's the male/female thing. He wants to do the "projects" I want to systematically finish each room before I move on to the next. We will have to have further discussion on our perceived agendas.

Is it time to pack for the cruise yet? Maybe I can just wash the stuff in my FL suitcase when I get back and put it right back in the suitcase for the cruise. Of course, if I continue losing weight, all of the clothes will be too big and I'll just have to buy new anyway! What a shame!

I've got to dash now! Talk to you later.

Karyn

Hurry back, Karyn. We all miss you!

Hi Everyone -

Dean, it is cold, cold, cold!!! We have -16 degree celcius weather, have to scrape the windshields, and lots of snow! It's supposed to get in the double digits next week but I'll believe it when I see (or feel) it!

I've started my packing list already but like Karyn, I'm hoping that my clothes will become too big for me and that I'll have to buy new clothes... My chips, dip and pepsi diet doesn't seem to be working though so I guess I'll have to try something more conventional!

Shingle - The Illuminations cruise sounds like fun to me... I'll have a chat with Gary, Gail and DH to see if they are all up for it...

Have a great day everyone, stay warm!!

Woo Hoo!!!! Just made the final payment!!!! They can't stop us now.

Time to think about excursions...actually, I've already arranged the Capt. Marvin's half day trip. Anyone in the group thinking about diving in Cozumel? My BF is a certified diver and she wants to do at least one dive on this trip...none of the rest of us can join her, so I was thinking she'd be better off on the Disney diving excursion.

I was wondering if anyone knew what they are doing for the superbowl on the ship? We were in Disneyworld last year and they had huge screens outside of the ESPN Club with the Superbowl on.

I think in Grand Caymen we're doing the Stingray City and Island tour. I want to be sure to get to Hell so I can send my inlaws a postcard from Hell. You'd have to know them to appreciate it::yes::

Here's a note that Karen e-mailed me:

I tried once again to see if I can post. We had a wonderful time in FL. Jill really likes U Tampa and Stetson Univ. Spent Friday night and Saturday w/ our table mates from our last Magical cruise. They are some of our best friends now.

There are just a few more projects around the house and it will go on the market by the end of the weekend. It will be about the only house for sale and is in a very primo location. I fell down the stairs the other day wrestling with a chair so I've decided that whatever is left to do is for Randy to tackle.

It's a beautiful sunny day today, if a bit cold, I imagine all that nasty weather we just had is visiting you now.

Shore excursions: Key West w/ the group, Capt. Marvin's at Grand Cayman - probably the whole day excursion (bliss!) and on Cozumel I understand the jeep trip is outstanding.

Looking forward to the Illuminations cruise - I'm considering it my birthday party!

Cheers!

Do you want to co-chair this event with me, Dean?

On our last cruise we had a DIS meet in the hallway outside Studio Sea. It's a low traffic area with lots of room for a group picture. We did it about a half hour before the lifeboat drill.

By the way, any more people interested in a Lime Green Bucket Hat to commemorate this great event? The original post for the hats is on page 18 (with picture). I really didn't get that many reponses the first time so I would like to have everybody who is interested post again so I can get an accurate count. They should be around $9 a piece WITH embroidering. I would also like ideas for what to put on them. I came up with "1/31/04 DIS Cruise". Not too original but what the hey!!! OK, here's another picture of the hats.

Hi, Cap-

Thought I'd check the boards before tucking in for the nite and saw your note to Gary. I believe the reason behind the lime green is associated with the use of lime green shirts, hats, headbands, etc by those who frequent the DIS boards for their DIS meets and making it easier to recognize everyone else.

However, I'm relatively new to all of this so my info isn't firsthand, just hear-say. Having a ball doing it though. Got my lime green DIS shirt already, Gary has my lime green hat and I think I've found some lime green tennies. Now, if I can just find some lime green shorts and sunglasses. :cool1:

Boy, won't have any trouble recognizing me as part of the group:crazy: (or ignoring the neon guy walking around the terminal). :earseek:

Hi Everyone, hope you are all having a great day -

Dean, I can hardly wait to see you in your lime green outfit!

Gary, we will take three hats (two in adult size; one in kids size) and we will go with the groups concensus on colour...

Bonkinthesota - I sent you a PM...

I know that we will be in good hands if Dean and Gary organize a DIS meet and I would be happy to help as well... I like the area by Studio Sea, as Gary mentioned there is low traffic and it is a good sized area... we could also plan the Palo brunch if people are interested ... it would be nice to arrange for a DIS photo with the photographer, also...

Have a Disney Day everyone!!!

I suggested lime green to match the DIS t-shirts as Dean said, but after further review, the DW and I are leaning toward Carribien Blue also. Here's another picture:

http://mysite.verizon.net/res0q1zf/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/bucket2a.jpg.w560h295.jpg

What does everybody think? We could make it a choice. The guy at the shop said they didn't all have to be the same color.

I don't know if your title idea would fit the first timers, Cap.

The DW suggested "The SUPER DIS Cruise" in honor of the Superbowl being on our first full day!

Let's hear some more feedback!

Thanks for doing this Gary! I could go with either the Lime or the Caribbean blue. The lime green seems to be a 'hot' color right now (well at least it seemed to be 'in' last summer). But the Caribbean blue looks like a really nice shade too. So, I would be happy with either one. As Ann said, I too will go with the consensus.

I think Super DIS Cruise sounds cool. Although, I do like the idea of the date being on there too. Or would that be too many words?

dheller97
11-20-2003, 07:10 AM
GOOD DISNEY MORNING!!

Since my DW says I can't go out looking like that, the caribbean blue might just help set off the "look" I'm going for.

Have a GREAT day, all!
Dean

kmc33

Sounds like the scales are tipping to the Caribbean Blue. It does look like a nice color... maybe something that I would get more wear out of in the long run.

I like the Super idea in the name with it being Super Bowl and all. But I did have another idea too, although, not too original. Maybe we could get Magic on there, since it is a cruise on the Magic. Maybe something like...

Magic DIS Cruise
1/31/04

I don't know -- maybe that's too many words. I was trying to get the date to center underneath, but couldn't get it. And I didn't know if there is enough room for two lines. I don't have a good feel for how much will fit without it going all the way around the hat. :scratchin

Again, I will go with what everyone else thinks. I think they are going to be great! It's getting very exciting!!!

OK, here's the scoop, the whole scoop, and nothing but the scoop, so help me Walt. I just talked to the Hat Guy and it's no extra charge for two colors!!!:smooth: So the choices are Lime Green and/or Carribean/Caribbean Blue.:teeth: Mix or Match, shake and bake!

I'm liking you idea for the text, Kim. I think it's general enough to make everyone happy!

I love it! MORE INPUT!!!:listen:

Oh, I forgot to add that I am willing to defer payment until you pick up your hat at the DIS meet on the Magic. With the holidays coming up, I thought it might promote people signing up for them if they didn't have to come up with the cash right now. What a guy I am!

Pace yourself, Dean!!! ;)

Jedokids, I think the whole family can share the web account. However, you will only have one shipboard e-mail address and only one person at a time can log on.

You can get Disney Dollars at your local Disney Store (if you have one). As far as shipboard credit, do you want to split it up by individual family members? You can charge things to your room through your Key to the World Card (room key) but I don't know if you can split it up.

Yes, we be dancin' tomorrow!:cool1:

The HG (Hat Guy) says he needs two weeks to process the hats, so I'm going to close the orders on New Years Day to give myself some extra time. Also, I will get some extras just in case someone looses theirs or someone decides they gotta have one after they see them!!!:hyper:

Have a safe trip, Kim and Dean!

Gail and I are dancin' machines!

We picked up a new film camera fo the cruise on a clearance sale last night! I also went to the HG (Hat Guy) today and there are two sizes, large and extra large. He recommends large for kids, extra large for adults, so I need to know that with your orders. Also, the print area is 1 3/4 inches high and 4 inches wide. So our imprint might look like:

Magic Cruise
DIS 1/31/04

Magic DIS Cruise
January 31, 2004

He also verified that ordering two colors is no problem as long as the all have the same embriodering.

Keep those orders coming and for those who already ordered, please indicate how many kids and adults.

Thank you for your continued support!

See, everybody, it's me!!! I'm still here! I've missed all of you so much. We've had new people join and I didn't get to say hi, hats are ordered we're organizing a meet - all without me!

I still can't post from like I used to, but it seems the problem is with aol cause I've got no problems on internet explorer.

I'm so happy to be back.

Ok, the big news here is that the house went on the market today, I've already had two viewings and the house is on tour for realtors tomorrow. I'm totally exhausted, this was a bigger job than I imagined. But now, after I tidy everything each day, I can DANCE!!!

Thanks everybody, I feel so warm and fuzzy!

Maybe I needed to be "grounded" till I got all my work done, it's more fun to hang out and play with my friends. Of course the realtors are kicking me out all day today for the realtor walkthrough, sigh so I still won't be able to play.

So this is just great about being able to get on the ship earlier, I imagine we won't be able to get into our rooms before the usual time tho. We'll have to watch the boards and see when they will be opening the port. Last year we were the first to walk through the door - but somebody else beat us to first in line. Anyway we will be there somewhere near the front of the line - I don't have a DIS shirt but I do have lime green attire.

Shingle, I'm really happy to be joining your crew for the Illuminations cruise, I've always wanted to do that. Who needs lime green? We'll already know so many people before we get in line. Anyone want to share a limo to the port?

Hey, I haven't got a place to stay yet the night before. Where's anybody else staying? No points left for DVC, so I'm going to have to pay which is the pits.

Dean, I'll try to get those res numbers for you today, if I remember by the time I get done with the daily trash and tidy.

Oh, I'm so happy happy happy to be back and in my dancing shoes.

Hello all.

We too are sailing on Jan 31st and can't wait.
Myself, my wife Lisa and our 20month old (at time of sailing) son Luke are taking our 1st cruise with Disney (4th overall) and are REALLY looking forward to it as we didn;t get away anywhere at all last winter and can't take another Canadian winter without a holiday.

It sounds like a lot of people already know each other on here.

I am wondring if anyone, who has sailed with Disney before, knows how accomodating Disney is with switching our dinner seating time. We book in August and were told that they only had late seating left and we were put on a waiting list for early seating. I was also told to check back around now as they look at the ages and try to accomodate for the younger children. Anyway, I was told that I'd have to take my chances with changing it on the ship. Which I found ridiculous . I have a full time career but am a travel agent (part time) and have never had a problem with a cruise line not at least try and accomodate a client.
I am wondering if someone can tell me how flexible they are once on the ship ??
Well I hope to meet some of you on the ship. What are these hats and meet all about ??

Steve

Welcome aboard!!! More folks from Canada, great!!!

Gail and I changed our dining time from late to early after we boarded with no problems. However, it was the first thing we did after boarding the ship.

If you go back to near the bottom of page 23 of this thread you will see a picture of the hats we are offering. The colors we agreed on are Lime Green (To match the DIS t-shirts) and Carribean Blue. I anticipate the price to be arround $9 a hat, depending on how many we order. The text we are embroidering on the is also back a page or two. No one is obligated to buy one, we just thought it would be fun and an easy way to spot each other.

By the way, those of you who want to pre-pay (Thanks, Dean!!), let me know and I will either e-mail or PM my mailing address to you. If the hats, turn out to be cheaper than $9, I will refund the difference or buy you a boat drink, depending on my mood at the time. The rest can pay me on the ship.

We haven't settled on a meeting place yet but we're working on it!

My son is Luke too!! :teeth: He is 4.

We were on the Disney Wonder last April. We had booked in January and were put on the waiting list for early seating. I called to check on our status about a month or six weeks prior to the cruise and we already had been moved to early. And the week we sailed the ship was sold out -- spring break time. I would think you have a good chance. I would definitely call and check. If it hasn't already been changed, you can make your case :D Good luck!

Hahahaha,

I have to admit that I have said it numerous times myself. I just want to make sure he knows who I am.....

Is anyone else arriving the day before (30th). We decided to just in case their is bad weather or other flight delays. Is there parking right at the terminal or do you have to walk a ways ? We are going to rent a car as we will be coming from Tampa then drop it off the next morning. My plan was to check in with all our luggage then I would go and drop the rental off at the rental place and have them shuttle me back. Does that sound reasonable to anyone who has sailed with Disney ?

How do I get the timer I see on some of the posts ??

Thx all

That's funny Steve! I guess maybe it's a common line! My DS is now 4 and it's funny when my DH says it to him now, Luke just looks at him and has absolutely no idea about the Star Wars connection.

I think a lot of folks are going down the day before (on the 30th). I guess with the unpredictable weather that time of year, it's a safer bet. It seems that people are staying various places, some at the Hyatt in the airport. And we are staying at the Holiday Inn Select near the airport, only because that's what I got through priceline. Since you have a car, I guess you can stay just about anywhere between Tampa and the port. I can't help with the parking at the terminal question, but I have read about a lot of people dropping everyone off and then just one person returning the rental car.

As far as the countdown timer goes, if you go to the Technical Support area on these boards (bottom of page on the left), then go to the Frequently Asked Questions. That's how I implemented my countdown clock. If I remember right, it walks you through it.

For the DVC members in the group, especially the first time cruisers, there is a gathering you don't want to miss. There is a DVC member reception in Diversions on Sunday that is a LOT of fun! They usually hand out DVC hats and have a DVC trivia contest where you can win DVC stuff. Everyone gets something and it's a great time to meet fellow DVC'ers at the start of the cruise.

Karyn, DW Cheri said she was able to link our dining reservations without any trouble today. So, we're all set! She says she sent you an email, and apologizes for mis-spelling your name. Disney also told her that 18 is definately the limit for teens. And, they told her we can make excursion reservations anytime after 8 AM, eastern time. I'm ready, ready, ready......

Hey, Grandma - we were among those out on "Black Friday". DW said that it so much fun to go out and take advantage of the sales. I thought it left a little to be desired, but it got to be fun seeing how many people I could knock down. Kinda like bowling for dollars. :D

Hi all,
I, my dh, his parents, their best friends, two of his brothers and their wives will be on the Jan. 31st cruise. It will be a 'grand gathering' as we cast members call these new family reunions at Disney. We just went in Oct. but have to get another hot chocolate souffle' at Palo, lol...
This is our fourth Dis cruise, but the first for everyone else. It will be so nice to do a family reunion where nobody has to play host! :Pinkbounc
I have a question: have any of you ever been in the Caribbean in Feb. before? If so, was the weather any different because it's cold in other places? Will the water be as warm? I hope so, because I can't wait to get to stingray city again::yes:: This last time I did the fury catamaran to stingray city and we went to a deeper area than I did with Captain Marvins' before. It wasn't nearly as fun because the stingrays were at the bottom and the only way to touch them was for a guide to go down and bring them up.:( I'm going to book with Captain Marvin's this time so I get some more time playing with them.
If any of you have questions about the western itinerary, let me know, we were just there so we have some updates.
The first update is that the ESPN skybox is no more. They have made that into a club for young adults and there is now a sports bar in Beat Street.
hope to hear from you soon, Renae

Gary, Are we going to book the Jeep Safari (or whatever it's called) on Cozumel? And remind me, we're doing which, the train or the trolley in Key West? Do you know which hotel you'll be staying at the night before, yet? Shall we meet for dinner or drinks before the Illuminations cruise (or, as I prefer to call it, my birthday cruise)?

Dean what excursions did you book?

Welcome Renae, we're going to go with Capt Marvin's again. I loved it last time, we'll probably do the 1/2 day. I've heard wonderful things about the full day trip as well. Hey, do you have enough people if we join you to charter a private boat?

Did anyone receive the list of excursions from DCL? We've actually got two rooms booked and have received nothing from either DU or DVC.

Concerning real life, looks like we'll have a second offer on our house today which will coincide w/ the details being ironed out on the first offer. Please have your fingers crossed and send lots of pixie dust for a bidding war. However it goes, we should have it sold by tomorrow.

Two more showings today, maybe tomorrow I can go back to being a slob. Anyway, made a cheesecake so my kitchen is a mess - got to go clean it!

Welcome auntrenae! Very nice to meet you.

Karyn, did you see my note that Cheri linked our dining reservations to yours? No problems at all.

We decided to stick strictly with the Disney excursions since it is our first time out. Figured if I over-indulge and need to crawl back to the ship at least this way they'll wait for me or at least get me to the next drinking stop. I HAD to be sure my Grand Cayman trip included a stop in Hell so I can send my in-laws a postcard from Hell. For some reason, they have always told me to either go there or I'll end up there, or something like that. So, it's payback time. Cozumel will bring only relaxing time with the Beach Break. It would be nice to come back to snowy and cold South Dakota with a sunburn. And at Castaway Cay we booked DS (Matt) to parasail.

Should be a fun week without overdoing things. How 'bout the rest of you, what's your plans?

Karyn, yes, we are planning to do the jeep safari with you. I think we were leaning toward the train in Key West because you can get off and on at different stops around the island. Dinner before the Illuminations cruise sounds like a plan! There are sveral places where we could eat at the Boardwalk.

Hi Everyone - Just to clarify, Annie and Jaclyn are not necessarily doing the parasailing on Castaway Cay ... Just because I could sign DH's waiver doesn't mean that he can sign mine :smooth: We'll have to see if I get brave enough ... We haven't booked any shore excursions because we'll probably just do our own thing... In Key West we want to do the trolley ride, in Cozumel, it's mini golf, shopping and beach, and not yet sure about Grand Cayman... we're still trying to decide what to do there... Looking REALLLLLLLY forward to it!!!
HADD!

Karen,
Since we haven't officially booked yet, (as cast members we have to wait till 30 days out) we haven't booked any excursions yet either. I hadn't thought of chartering a boat. Have you done that before? If so, how many people do you need to do that? With my DMIL in poor health, she won't be doing any excursions, but some of the others might. I'll have to ask them via email if they want to. It would be fun. I have never done a long excursion to stingray city because I wanted time to shop, but because we just went, I might want to do that this time. I'll check their website to see what they have. I'm sure looking forward to getting back in the water again.
Good luck with your house selling fast! You have all the pixie dust I have in my magic pouch on it's way to you. We did the same thing 4 months ago, the house sold in 2 weeks, but it fell through and we sold it 3 more times over the next 2 months before it finally closed the day before we sailed! That was stressful, I can tell you. I hope yours goes through right away. Watch out for people who want to finance 100%!

Thanks Renae, way to scare me! LOL! I don't know what I'd do if we had a contract fall thru. We are requiring a financial proof that the buyer is qualified. Our first offer should have the financial papers today. Didn't hear from my realtor last night tho I know at least one other couple is preparing a contract. They may be waiting till Randy gets home tonight to save on the faxing stuff to WA and back. Let me know what you find out about Capt Marvins. Our tablemates last year went on the "full" day tour and loved it - there were three snorkling stops plus a stop to catch conch, then they went to a private beach for a BBQ - they said it was wonderful. It wasn't a charter boat - but noone else was booked for it that day so they had the boat to themselves.

Gary, do you know how many fit on the Jeeps - is it 4 or 5? I don't know what to do w/ Jill that day. Not sure if she'll want to go along. (Dean, are you beaching it in Cozumel, want an extra daughter for the day?)

Annie, I want to try parasailing, we could do it together! Of course, my Randy would stand on terra firma and laugh at me! Both he and Jill are afraid of heights and he won't even consider it.

Well, I need to get the house pretty. Who knows what today will bring?

Hi Kim! I can't believe we're closing in on Christmas, where did the last two months go? Oh, that's right, I was stuck not posting and working on the house.

Renae, I totally with you on the snorkeling thing, one of my most favorite things to do. I'll have to talk to my crew here about 1/2 or full day w/ Capt Marvins. We loved it so much. We did the fury Catamaran Snorkel at Key West last time. It was really good snorkeling, but the surge was very strong and exhausting. Randy hated it. Jill had fun because she was following a barracuda and a shark around for awhile.

Gary are you signed up for the Jeep tour yet? I think this is the Jeep tour that some were talking about going on earlier this year - that they had had a great time and a much smaller crowd. http://gocozumel.com/wild-tours-atv/

Come on Annie, we can do it! I really want to try parasailing - our Randys can stand on the ground and take pictures!

Gary, I have decided on two Caribbean blue adult size hats. I will be happy to send you a check if you want to pm me your address and the total owed. Thanks again for doing the hats! I think it's a great idea. ::yes::

LOL, Kim, I didn't say we were closing on Christmas, I said it's getting so close to Christmas - I can't believe how fast the time has gone. We do have an offer yesterday, But Randy came in so late last night we will counter first thing today. So maybe you weren't so far off. We actually could close during the cruise if we can work this out! Tho we will ask for about a week later. Which means I will have to have the house packed and ready to go before we leave.

Renae, let me know which Capt Marvin's you want to take.

Does anybody know the number you call for excursions? I didn't get a brochure this time - weird cause I've been paid in full for a long time.

Cheers, everybody!

Hi, we'll be joining everyone as well on this cruise, paying the full balance today! Our group is myself (Monique - 36), my husband Glenn, 38, Kelsey 11, and Tyler 9, who will actually be 10 3 days before we leave (1/28). We'll be celebrating my 37th on board, on the last night out, 2/6. =) Sorta hoping to figure out how to get Palo reservations for that night, you only turn 37 once right? ;) But I'll worry about that later...

First cruise for DS, DH and DD...however I grew up on cruise ships, my parents met on one and my father and his best friend ran the photographic consessions for all the big lines - Holland America, Royal Carribbean, etc. We used to go to NYC every weekend to help stock up on all the photographic needs, and my brother and I would explore the ship, crew and guest areas alike...so I'm pretty excited. First time I'll be sailing with a room bigger than a closet, and a porthole to boot!!

A little worried because we got the 2nd to last available cat. 9, and it's #2506 - a supposedly "noisy" room?? I'm thinking positive though...

So...hi everyone! :wave2:

Hi Monique! Glad to have you with us. As you can probably tell, we're a huge group and have had a wonderful time getting to know each other though this thread. So join right in! Are you going to get a Bday cake for Tyler on the first night out? As far as your 37th birthday, yes, you usually only get one of those, but as far as I can tell, you can have as many 39th birthdays as you want. I, myself, will be celebrating my 12th 39th birthday on the cruise! I'd love to hear more about growing up on cruise ships. I was on a transatlantic crossing (probably before you were born) when I was a kid, Barcelona to NYC (we were traveling from Afghanistan to California and that was the only way to get our car across with us). That was back in the era of class separation. I remember that 1st class passengers were on their own decks that those of us in 2nd and 3rd couldn't get to. I think we did sneak up there to trick or treat on Halloween.

ACK! S*** Advisory here. I hate winter and you-know-what is a four letter word in this house. Did you know that in Persian the word for snow is "barf" - seems appropriate somehow.

I didn't even think of that!! What a great idea, he's always complaining because he has a winter birthday, so it can't be quite as special/fun here in New England as his sister's July birthday, which is always outdoors and with blowup rentals like bounce houses and water slides...a special cake would make his night! Thanks for the thought!!

As far as your 37th birthday, yes, you usually only get one of those, but as far as I can tell, you can have as many 39th birthdays as you want. I, myself, will be celebrating my 12th 39th birthday on the cruise!

LOL! I figure that age is a number we assign to ourselves...mother nature has no idea about "years", we put that burden on ourselves, so pfft to it, I'm not going to let it bother me! You don't stop playing because you get old - you get old because you stop playing, and I don't think anyone here has to worry about that!

Well, my experiences were more limited to growing up with crew members coming and going from our house in Mass, and going to the ships every single weekend as I said, to help dad restock and fix photographic equipment and such. We had free roam of the ship while in dock, and the crew were always watching out for my brother and I. We went on one cruise, to Bermuda, on the SS Statendam (Holland America Line) - because Dad had to train a new photog. - so it was a working vacation for him! And when people would order all those reprints and such...we did all that out of the house, I have stuffed more envelopes and put together more photo albums than I ever wanted to! *grin* Of course because of the crew associations while on the cruise, my brother and I never got away with anything fun...but it did help when I sleepwalked, they knew who I was and brought me right back to my cabin! We had a TINY room - inside stateroom with bunk beds, and a toilet...SO dark...this should be a completely different experience. My brother actually cruised as a photographer after high school - the Alaska run on the "Love Boat" for 6 months till he had enough - and the photographers had it easy in comparison to most crew then, because they were "commissioned" - but even so, let me tell you, the STORIES he shared! *grin* Let's just say my kids won't be doing the crew thing anytime soon... ;)

Anyone who's done this before w/kids who are "tweens" like mine - does it become a "neighborhood" atmosphere for them? I'm hoping that they will find some friends their own age and bond with them, leaving hubby and I to some time to just relax and enjoy the food and wine...which should be fun, as hubby is a professional chef and looking forward to having someone cook for HIM for once! My son is very outgoing and will seek out friends without issues...my daughter is a little quieter, but always seems to be very "in demand" as a friend once she opens up.

http://trulson4.tripod.com/photos.html - some pics from our last Disney trip to OKW...slightly old, but it'll introduce the family to you! :)

Thanks for the welcome aboard, all! Looks like we're the "poor relations" down on deck 2, huh... *wink*

Monique, just call your travel agent or DCL and request a cake on the first night for Tyler. It will be served at the end of your dinner, after dessert. I'm celebrating my 50th that night (only a month late). Actually we have a lot of birthdays in this group. Gary's still celebrating his September birthday. You could also contact A Perfect Gift and have a basket waiting for him, or decorations. Oh, nice pictures. And, I'm with you on the age issue, this one, however is a little harder to take than any of the preceeding ones!

Kim, yup, one preposition and it changes the meaning of everything.

We just did a second counter on the house, but will accept what they come back with regardless. It's not as good as we would like, but it will be done.

We booked thru a TA and they told us to expect documents to be sent from them two weeks prior to departure date. I don't know if it is that way from all of the TA's. We used Expedia.com since that is who I use for my office staff and that is what they told us. I would assume that if you didn't use a TA it would be coming directly from DCL and would arrive sooner.

I think it depends on whether or not you book the air through DCL. At least in the past, in general for cruises, I was told if the cruise line is not making the flight arrangements, then the documents go out sooner.

Yikes, sticker shock, just paid in full today...we decided to fly in the night before, as it's only $180 to stay Friday night...so we'll fly Boston to MCO, stay at the Hilton there, then get to the dock earlier the next day, hopefully...we're letting DCL do the whole package, I SO need to relax on this vacation, you have NO idea...

We were flying into MCO the day of the cruise, but after the weather report for tomorrow (a foot of snow expected), and the fact that I'm a meteorologist by degree, therefore tend to jinx things (betcha didn't want to hear that! *wink* ) I don't want to risk being stuck...this gives us an extra day if the weather does get antsy, right?

Tried to invite three new 1/31 cruisers over here to join us but got my keystrokes slapped and the messages deleted. Board moderator said in a very stern email that I was "taking business away from the owners and a few employees." I haven't been banned from there, yet. And, I did manage to get a couple of email addresses. :scratchin Hmmmmm, may just have to drop them a note and invite them to come take a peek.

Sounds like those of you on the East may get a bit of the white stuff! We only got an inch or so, but had freezing rain first so it is pretty slippery out. Hope the weekend isn't too bad for you. Just sit back, watch the Magic in port, and sip on your umbrella drinks.:teeth:

Wow, no snow in Erie, Gary. I didn't realize that it missed you. We had a record fall for this date. The old record for Dec. 5th was set last year! I hope this isn't a sign that this winter is going to be like last year!!!! I think the official reading at the airport was about 6 inches, but it looked like that was on the low end as some areas got up to 10 or 12. In fact, we are a little northeast of the airport and I would say there were 7 or 8 in my driveway. I just finished shoveling about an hour ago. I think I need to get a snow blower!!! Better yet, I think I need to move south!! :sunny:

Dean,
According to our Passporter book,(a MUST have, check it out at www.passporter.com ) it's the Old Town Trolley that make nine stops around Key West. The Conch Train is non-stop.

OK, Here it is! I will do it by DIS Board ID:

OKWMEMBER - 2 Adult, 1 Green, 1 Blue

Kabuli - 3 Adult, no color preference.

dheller97 - 3 Adult, 1 Green, 2 Blue PAID

CAP - 2 Adult, Blue PAID

kmc33 - 2 Adult, no color preference

Annie - 2 Adult, 1 Child, no color preference

Shingle - 4 Adult, Any color

Bonkinthesota 2 Adult Blue, 1 Adult Green, 1 Child Green

If I have your colors or counts wrong, PLEASE let me know. I know that we were trying to settle on one color at first but the Hat Guy said there is no problem with ordering two colors.

For those of you who are new to the group, I've arranged to get
bucket hats made for the group. The colors are Lime Green (to match the DIS t-shirts) and Carribean Blue. Here's a picture:

http://mysite.verizon.net/res0q1zf/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/bucket2a.jpg.w560h295.jpg

The text on the hats will be one of the following:

Magic Cruise
DIS 1/31/04

Magic DIS Cruise
January 31, 2004

It depends on which one fits the print area of the hat.

The hats should be around $9 a piece with adult and chilldren sizes. You DO NOT have to pay in advance. I know the holidays are coming. However, if you want to pat in advance, I will PM or e-mail you my mailing address. If the hats turn out to be less than $9 and you paid in advance, I will either refund the difference or buy you a Boat Drink!!!! How's THAT for a deal!

That's all for now!

Monique,
Hi and welcome to the group! I didn't know how big it was till I saw the list. I was on the Cruisetoberfest in Oct., and we had 120, so that was a blast! I'm sure you will have a good time in the guest cabins, they are big on the Magic, so it will be fun for you. This is our 4th Dis cruise, 3rd to the western, so we are excited to be able to go again so soon. I had no idea this was going to happen, but you never know with family, especially when you are a cast member. They love to use our discounts, and it looks like we will be going again with some that can't go this time, so we may as well book a cabin full time... :hyper: that's a nice fantasy anyway!:hyper:

THanks for the welcome, auntrenae! I'm married to a former cast member - my husband worked at the Magic Kingdom in high school - in Fantasy Land! Talk about a place to spend your high school after hours.... *grin*

He also has a "safe" email address, so if there are any that might want to say hi, just PM me with the email address he should use, and I'll add that to his safe list!

Monique,
I know what you mean about spending after school hours at the parks. My youngest son worked for Disney his senior year and spent a lot of time there. Now it is my DH and I and our middle son who are cast members, so date night hasn't been the same, I can tell you. We sure enjoy the perks! They don't pay much, but the perks make up for it big time! :Pinkbounc
It is a pain:crazy: waiting until 30 days out to book the cruise too, but it's worth it when the price is so low. It makes it so we can go much more often, and being so close by, it's not too horribly awful if we get bumped, but I sure hope we don't!!!

So I'm being lazy and not searching through all the posts in the DCL forum...can someone who's done this before talk to me about the "formal" and "semi-formal" nights?

DH does not have a tux, and we probably don't want to rent one...would a nice dark suit be acceptable for the formal night? How "semi" is the "semi-formal" night - would the same suit work, with different shirts/ties perhaps...or a sports jacket, or maybe nice shirt/tie/pants type of outfit? And what about the kids - do they go to these, and if so, what's acceptable for them? DD is trying to talk me into a new fancy dress just for the occasion... *grin* and DS would rather NOT get all fancied up, and to be honest, at the rate they grow, I can't see spending $$$ for a suit for him!

I, on the other hand, plan on raiding my best friends closets for THEIR fancy gowns...funny how everyone else's clothes are always nicer than your own, huh? ;)

Hi all,
Formal nights are nice dressy nights with people wearing everything from tux's and formal gowns to suits. It's totally up to you. On our first cruise, my DH rented a tux from the ship tux company and I loved it. From then on, he just wore a suit. I found a great dress that has become my 'cruise dress', but I want something different this time. Our son is getting married in May and I need a new dress for that, so if I can find one that will work for both, I'll get it now. I've seen young girls in princess outfits on formal night, which is fun, but anything goes, really. They take formal portraits that night, though, so you might want your outfits to coordinate.
Semi-formal night is less dressy, but some people wear the same outfits from the other night. Our oldest son ended up wearing his tux 4 nights just because he knew he looked good, lol. A shirt and tie is fine, and it's fun to go a little out on a limb style wise, because you are on a ship, after all. I like a sarong with a blouse for semi night.
Hope this helps, :wave2: Renae

Hi Everyone - Just checking in to say "hi"... sorry to hear about all the snow... we've been lucky so far (fingers are crossed that it stays that way!) Gary, I'm glad you approve of our formal night outfits LOL! Seriously, it is fun dressing up, and the kids seem to love it... they were on their best behaviour!! My mouth is starting to water for the chocolate souflee - they can just feed me that all week... Then I'll really look good in the formal clothes LOL!
Have a great day everyone...

Yes indeedy, I did sneak in a trip to WA! We were looking at houses. What a bite to come home to s*** and a forcast of 26 high 13 low!

Fingers crossed, everybody, the inspection is done and we are waiting today for the formal acceptance of the contract on our house!

Gary, I want two blue and one green, please email me your address and I'll get a check out to you. Anyway I could get one early (blue one) for Jill's surprise?

Something else I need. Does anyone have a DCl Christmas ornament or some other DCL thing they could part with? I need it for a Christmas present. With the move this year all I'm giving my kids (they are pretty much grown, remember) is the 10 Day Christmas cruise next year! Really the only shore excursion that catches my eye is the Fury Catamaran one in Cozumel. We were thinking about the Tulum ruins, as DH and I went to Cancun for our honeymoon 3/91, and that was one place we went to, along with Xel-ha - so we thought it'd be cool to take the kids back there now - but then I read that the ruins are all closed off so we can't relive DH climbing the steps (my immense issue with heights got me as far as the 2nd step before I needed help getting down *grin*). It would be a pale comparison, so why not try something else.

HOWEVER...DH has a slight issue with motion sickness. Soooo....while he's totally game to try this, I wanted to see if anyone's done this, how fast does the catamaran go, how long a trip, how wavy (although I know that's not something that we can predict, but in general)...any past experiences to share?

I want to call to reserve a spot but not till I find a little more about it! Doesn't it figure that both kids are "adults" (ie. 10+) now in all these tours... *sigh*

Who needs $$ right? ;)

Kabuli1
12-11-2003, 06:09 PM
We did the Fury Catamaran snorkeling at Key West last November. It was a very good snorkeling excursion, but Randy got very sea sick. He tends to get more sick on catamarans more than other small boats. If you're DH can take meds beforehand he may be just fine. I understand that it is a great excursion.

I haven't signed up for any excursions yet. Renae, you sure you don't want to do the whole day w/ Capt Marvins, oh well, 1/2 day will work for us, too - it's a lot less expensive. Anyone else joining us?

It looks like the house contract will go thru. We should receive the signed paperwork from the lawyer tomorrow. I know much can go wrong from here on out - but so far, so good.

I am so jet lagged! Got to stay up till after Survivor, tho!

5 days from now I'll be about 1/2 way thru Trilogy Tuesday! Is there life after LOTR?
