The sign in my kitchen actually does say, "It's not done until the smoke alarm goes off" and the smoke alarm has gone off on a regular basis. I agree with favorite thing to make is reservations.:D Cheri

And how did the toque thing start? Oh ya....and did I mention that I got you a toque for your birthday? I had telepathy so I bought it a day early!!!
Is there anything special that you would like my family to do or bring in honor of our DIS group??
There have been posts on various other threads of people using magnets to identify themselves to other DIS members. When verandahman made his last cruise back in August, he had a number of neat things he did and it just kinda took off.
I think the toque thing started when someone, Randy (goofyaboutmickey7) I think, mentioned it in his post. I asked a simple question like, what the "heck" is a toque? Now for some strange reason (or maybe it's me that is strange) I have become the toque-head-thread in speedos and lime green sneakers. If that ain't a sight to make your eyes sore.
Supper is about ready, smoke alarm just went off. Cake and froofroo drinks later. No hot tub though. But, there is an old cow trough not too far away that we can jump into if we break away some of the ice first.

I'm kind of late getting on today so I wasn't aware it's a big day for you, congrats!:jester: Do you have a birthday toque on? I'm sure it would look like this smiley, since you are so good at joking around... We love ya, you know that right?::yes:: Does that mean that tonight's party has been moved to your place??? :teeth: Is there cake?:earseek: With this group, it better be a big one!::yes:: See you all there!:wave2:  :wave2:

You guys crack me up! I hadn't though of ties on doors in years, but that's a good reminder of younger, wilder times.
I've already set it up to get some strawberries delivered to our room one night by room service... fun (waggles eyebrows) :smooth:
I hate to wreck the fun of the young and single, but the doors on the library don't close, unless they have fixed that recently, so ties won't help you any! too bad, it would make for some great blackmail photos, right parents???

DEAN - Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, you look great in your speedo, your green shoes, and your toque, too... (okay it rhymes in my head)... Randy is doing a bit better, still very tired ... I guess we'll do some party hopping tonight, will be at your place soon Dean and Cheri, then we can move over to the hospital, and Randy ordered extra bed pans... He just found out that he can't come home until Monday :( ! That's cutting it a bit close but the doctor wants to make sure he's A-OK before we leave...
Today it snowed, and I had my first taste of shoveling snow in the morning (I'm a bit spoiled, I know)... anyways, I decided I didn't much care for it... I think the Floridian life is calling us...
Dean, I hope you had an absolutely wonderful day and I'll see you in a few minutes at the party...

Hi Dorie,
I called yesterday and they were the same movies that were posted here last week so I pitched the paper I wrote them on. If the search is working you can search for movies and see what is playing in the theatre and the stateroom. The CM's exact words were "here is what's playing now". I'm going to call again next week and see if anythings changed. The list did not include "Teachers' Pet". Pretty much everything else that is out by Disney right now though.

Cake and ice cream thing is done so we're ready to do some serious chair dancing and elbow bending. So, come on over I told the local police officer we were expecting a bunch of out of towners over and he's said he'd move his radar trap over to the other side of the barn. http://e4u.deltait.com.au/dressed/bek216.gif He just wants everyone to know that the town closes at 10 PM. Sam moved his herd to the north 40 so the cattle trough is open all nite for any polar bear swimmers.

I like that tip. My DH has one too and I quote, "Don't worry about it, you can buy it when we get there." He also has another favorite quote, "What do you need that for?" These two tips do not go together. I will be packing a lot in lots of bags.

I know nothing, nothing!! My gosh Princess, is this something you should know about? Yes, it was quiet, but secluded, probably not. I do think there was a door, but it had a little window, and....geez, your Mom is going to be so mad at me!
Juli
That's a great tip Barbara! I was telling DH that I was brining some wine, beer, scotch, and maybe fruity drink mix on board. He nixed the beer and fruity drinks b/c he said he really enjoyed meeting all the international bar tenders on board. Wow, how did we miss this on our one and only DCL cruise?
I'm impressed. I've read every guide book, web site, board, you name it. I've never seen that about Palo. Now, I'll ask DH later if he remembers seeing the bar and if he thought we could go there to have a drink w/out a ressie. He'll probably tell me sure, he saw that. Even worse, he'll say we've done that! I have memory lapses. It makes everything new again. I like that.
BTW, we have 13 years between our oldest and the younger two.

What movies are going to be playing on the ship when we go?
And about the libary thing I was told on our last cruise that there are cameras everywhere, so don't do anything outside of your stateroom that you don't want others to see.
Bobby
Bobby! I thought it was your Mom! I'll see if I can find the post with the movies. It just dawned on me if you search the forum using movies, you are just going to get a reference to this thread. I will call next week and post everything I find out.

You need to bring your own bubbles I believe.
Tricks??? To the people that clean their homes before they leave-- I think it something our mothers insitilled in us-- that we have to clean before we can go out and play! You haven't met my mother! I love her -- but I didn't learn how to clean from her. It might be only my DSis who would appreciate the humor of this. Although I don't clean before leaving to the extent that I am reading that some of you do, I do like to make sure things are in order before I go. I have wondered if it's some sort of morbid thing -- in case I don't make it back. Although it is nice coming home to a neat house.

Annette - Will your kids be ok if you split them up? Do you know what they would like to do, or won't they know until they are in the groups? I'm not sure I'm going to be much help here. I would put my kids in the oldest group possible. They would be really upset with being in the younger group. I guess you have to figure out which will work better, splitting them up at first and then putting them back together if it doesn't work out, or the other way around.
You can visit the club and lab on the first day and I'm sure it will all fall into place then.

Photonut: I'm putting my DD in the club. She wil be 60 days from her 8th birthday. I was going top try to move her up but then decided that she would like the club activities more. She's in grade 2. Her best friend is also on the cruise and will be in the club as well. She will be 8 a week after the cruise. If your DD wants to go into the club there will be at least two other girls almost exactly the same age and in the same grade as she is.

I don't have a lot of experience with the different ages, but I recently read a post that made sense. I think the jist of it was to start them out in their own age groups and start them the first day, because it's easier to make friends right away. Once the kids are already getting to know each other it might be harder to 'break in'. And this way, if later one moves to the others group they would know each other and one may have already formed some friendships. Whereas, it might be harder to go the other way when one moves into a different group all alone. I hope that made sense. When I read the post it did and it sounded like it might apply to your situation.

Have fun partying tonight with Cheri and Dean. :happy1: I am afraid I have to call it a night. I am pooped. :crazy2: It's been a long week. Picked up DH from the airport. He isn't feeling well. Drove back on roads that had enough snow to be tricky, but the salt crews hadn't made it out yet. It took twice as long to get home as usual. At least his flight landed before things got too bad. He has to go again next week -- drive to Circleville, OH. Hope the weather cooperates!! :(
Have a great night!!! TGIF!!!

Hi, Jen right?
Our rental rate is more on the outbound trip as well. On the way in, we have a one-way from Port Charlotte, FL to Port Canaveral for $35/day. On the way out we have a one-way from Port Canaveral to Ft. Lauderdale for $49. Theses are both full size vehicles with taxes and fees included. This was through Avis. I used the codes at www.mousesavers.com. I wouldn't call this a great deal, just the cheapest I could find. I explained our higher cost on the out-bound b/c of the location we are originating the rental in (Port Canaveral). I have no idea why it would be so much more.

Dean,
I saw that, you thought I wasn't watching, but I'm here... I love the idea of doing 'welcome to Fla.' drinks for everyone! Of course, at my house that is either lemonade or milk... Does that appeal? I could do the frou-frou straws, or even mickey and minnie slurpy straws? Funny guy!
On a more serious note, the site you posted for the cute smilies, is it one that keeps doing pop-ups after you use the site, or is it a good one without all the extra advertizing? I'd love to have access to them, but...
I have some catching up to do... I spent the evening making jam. Yum!!! Hot bread too! Anyone wanna come over? Just smell that hot bread and raspberry jam...
Renae
Hello all. Judi and I made it from Michigan to Sparta, Tn. It snowed until we got past Lima, Ohio, but then started to get warmer. It's 25 degrees warmer here than it was in MI.
Dean, I'm glad to hear you got lime green eggs. Great color choice.
Gary, thanks for the call
For those who are getting in early and will be at Boardwalk, I'll try to respond to you on Monday. I'm on dialup here, and it is really, really slow - not at all easy to scroll back and forth on the thread.
I've already found that I forgot my red bowtie, along with the magnetic paper for the door. Now I'll have to get more and hope my MIL lets me use her printer.
Annie, tell Randy we don't want any laggards. He needs to get going on getting better fast. How can he be one of the party leaders if he's still resting up?
Talk with you on Saturday. It's been a long day. Judi says hello to all.
Hey Renae,
You and I are the night owls after all aren't we? I have a Newcastle Brown Ale for Nikki if she would open her eyes! Nice of DH to bring a 6-pack of that home the very day she said she liked it. Um, there's only one left though and it's got Nikki's name on it. The Beer Tender has spoken. :snooty:

You are too kind Cheri. A little older? There's a world of difference between becoming a Mom at 23 as opposed to 36. I was much more terrified at 36. I knew what we were getting into and having 2 to boot. Argh!!! Once we came out of the the shell shock it was a lot of fun. The little guys make me appreciate my older son all the more as well. His life was so different as a kid than it is for our younger ones.
I think it's interesting that my Mom had her first at 23 and her last (me!) at 36. I did the same, but she had 5 kids in between her first and last. Not me, just the two pregnancies and 3 kids. That's enough for me.

Hey everybody,
On our last cruise, some DIS'ers were concerned that the door magnets would be stolen, so we all decided to put them high on the door so little 'sticky' fingers wouldn't be able to reach them. It worked, so maybe the ones taking them were kids. Nobody had the magnets stolen...

I've been thinking, (a dangerous thing, I know) I love the idea or a quiet meet on that secret aft deck with some books and snacks, and maybe an umbrella drink. I think it would be so much fun to share that interest with like minded friends. I have had so little time lately to get into a book the way I like to that I would just inhale it, so if anyone is interested, let's try to make a time to do it once we meet or on here. We just have to hope for it to be empty! There are so many DIS'ers now that know about it that it might not be so secret anymore...

Yes, Renae, thinking is dangerous! It's gotten me into a lot of trouble over the years.
Dean great party - even if it did end a bit early out there in Tiny Town. Probably a good thing since I got to bed at a reasonable hour.
It's miserable and cold here and the snow yesterday made the roads pretty nasty. I did notice that the current temp in Port Canaveral was a brisk 47 degrees! Now that is scary! Why isn't the port camera facing the Magic?
I was blown away by your comment Dean that ours is the NEXT sailing! Oh wow! (I wish you could hear the mixture of abject horror as well as gleeful excitement in those two words: "Oh Wow!") 4 more days to try to do everything - and all my friends are trying to get a little time w/ me before I leave. Othere than getting some work done on my lesson for tomorrow, yesterday was a complete write-off. SIGH So I was up at 4:30am worrying! I hate worrying!
I don't think I'm going to remember the little stuff, like magnets and bubbles. Anyone who has them, please bring extras!
Cap, I'll pm you my cell phone number we'll be checking in at the Boardwalk Thursday afternoon, probably around 3pm.
So it's the one week dance! I'll try to throw some extra dancing energy into my packing and class preparations!
Cheers!

OOOH! You're so kind, thank you!! Of course, at 7:55 in the morning, I think I'll wait till later...
Busy day today, shopping and packing and stuff...my list of things is huge, and the suitcases are sitting here in the computer room empty and lonely...at least I won't be bored today.
Good morning all...just think, 7 days from today we'll be getting on board!!
A quick check of the weather shows nasty stuff for us in the Northeast this week. Major cold, along with the possibility of Ocean Effect Snow (OES, that's LES's cousin, Gary!) Sunday, which won't affect us, but WILL affect our airport...more snow Monday - Tuesday...and then, and I quote, "Dry wx for thurs then yet another system to bring snow Friday. And for arctic lovers, more of it on tap for the weekend. "
:( *crosses fingers and toes*
We fly out Friday morning at 6:30am from Boston...

Hah! Why do you guys think I married a chef? *wink* If the recipie does not start with "Open box, put in microwave...", I can't do it!!! I can build a computer from scratch, I can design websites, I can forecast the weather, but COOK? *shudder* I'm sorry, I think that takes a huge talent that I simply don' thave. I wish you could have shared earlier, cause we like to lift each other up. I hope right now you're both feeling pretty great, cause this is going to be a great time together.

Good morning - big yawn. :o The posts have been busy as usual! I bought my over the door shoe holders and suntan lotion yesterday. Now I have 3 things for the trip.
Dean the birthday party was great. :goodvibes Cheri - good job on the cake. I had seconds. BF Jim says sorry about your neighbor's cows. He really thought they were the NYC Rockettes with those long legs. He thought the red ribbon on the barn door would keep the neighbor out.
We went to see "Along Came Polly" last night. Movie critic review follows - "Boo, hiss, thumbs down" It was really bad! It was by the same people who did "Meet the Parents" so I expected more. All the funny parts were seen in the previews.
Captain Kangaroo died yesterday, so I'm in mourning. For all you non-locals, he hosted a local kiddy show when I was a child.
We have snow and 14 degees here. Every time the phone rings I cringe :scared1:, thinking it's another shopping center weather-related disaster. Send pixie dust please!

Good morning all!
Thanks for covering the morning shift for me. I got delayed. First, had to make an edible breakfast for the boss and me, which was extremely good by the way. Then, had to go over to the courthouse and talk to Jerry our local police department. He wanted to know who all those people with the funny looking hats were and what they were doing banging on the door at the city pool last nite. So, must confess, I told him I didn't know any of you. Got a little while to work this morning before I can sit and watch the Magic in port.
Steve, welcome back. I agree that I wish you had stopped by for a little support, and maybe a few smiles, from this group. They are some of the best I have been fortunate to communicate with.
Please add our prayers to those you have already received for you and Lisa.
Karyn got all of the details right! So, even though swimming in a sea of packing peanuts, she knows what's happening! Hey, Mom, you need a break today - go shopping, Randy said it was OK. :)
Winter storm warnings out for the weekend around here, too. Hope it is all over by the time we leave on Thursday.
Have a great day, all. I'll check back later. Gotta go shopping for some little red tie thingy-ma-bobs. :teeth:

mornin' all... It's 8:22 a.m. here and I can't believe I'm awake and have caught up with the posts already...
Steve and Lisa - healthy thoughts are headed your way (as are our prayers)
Cap & Judi - safe travels, thanks for checking in, and I'll tell Randy that he has all next week to rest but by Saturday, he's expected to lead the toque and speedo fashion show...
Dean, thanks for the great party but I can't believe you ditched us at the police station...
I won't be on the boards anymore until tonight (at least that's my plan, we'll see if I can stay away)... Jaclyn's having her birthday party this afternoon and I am not very organized. So, I have to get cracking and get ready for it....

Welcome back Steve & Lisa. So sorry to hear of your health problems. :( How scary! The trip should be exactly what the doctor ordered! Sunshine, warm air, lots of caring friends! :sunny:
Back to the cleaning - when I was a teenager, my grandmother would take us to Atlantic City every summer. We usually stayed in a fairly small hotel. We had to house clean the hotel room from top to bottom before we were allowed to even take a peek at the ocean. :scared: We took the bed springs off and scrubbed them, washed and ironed the curtains, scrubbed the woodwork - I mean really, really ridiculously thorough cleaning. The owner wanted to put us in a different room every night to get his hotel cleaned. Fortunately, I did not inherit that obsession. It might have to do with the fact that my eyesight is diminishing by the minute and I CAN'T SEE THE DIRT any more.
I probably won't be back on line today either. Glad you and Judi got in safe, Cap. I need to run my 2 miles, go do some work at my other job, going to Costco to look for snorkel gear, going to visit clean nut grandmother and then it's another birthday party tonight for DBF's best friend. No cows at this one though (except on the menu), how dull.
Six more days till I leave for the :boat:!!

Juli -- I did clean the playroom yesterday...it feels much better now to be able to walk into the room without stepping on puzzle pieces and action figures. As for the kids bedrooms...yes I agree...I am a firm believer in just shutting the door!! I have never cleaned my childrens rooms besides vacuuming...that is up to them!! My husbands mom always cleaned his room for him...My mom always just shut the door...she figured we were the ones that had to live in it!!

I might be missing the point here, but I thought I read that once you start in a group you can't move up (or down)? Sorry Nikki - I was trying to find the post where I read the information but I couldn't find it.
I don't know for a fact one way or another how this is handled for sure. But, from everything I read, I think there are times when they will move a child. I guess you are supposed to start them out in the place where they belong and that you think they will be happy. But I think there are occasions when they will decide to move. I could be wrong about that. And I have read that a parent can make the decision to start a child in a younger group if they think that's a better fit. But to move to an older group, the child must be within 1 month of their birthday. Otherwise, the counselors could decide if it would be better to move the child up.
Some of this stuff I think depends on a case by case basis and who you talk to at the club.

Hi everyone....Haven't been around for the last week and a half. Been working LOOOOONG hours in order to be away for this vacation. I am badly in need of R&R. And the DH is hoping for a red ribbon!! ;)
Anyway...it took me forever to read the posts. What a group! My DH and I think we picked the right group of people to cruise with.
Prayers and pixie dust to Chickenlady and Lisa and Steve and Randy.
Now...I need some help with shore excursions. We have never been on the Disney cruise before and assumed (rather foolishly) that we could book the shore excursions when we get onboard like we have done on the other cruise ships we've been on. I had some time this morning and we looked at the shore excursions and decided to get "ahead of the game" and make the reservations before we left. Since our DS is only 3, we are somewhat limited in what we can take him on. I'm sure you can all guess what happened.....2 of the 3 are SOLD OUT. Yikes!!
Can someone help with some advice.
In Key West we were planning on doing the glass bottom boat. We've been on the conch train, our DS would be bored with the musuem, didn't care for the schooner tours. So...my question is, is it possible to book the glassbottom boat at that tour hut in Mallory Square on our own?
In Grand Cayman we were trying to go to the Rum Point Beach Adventure. Is there some way we can do this on our own?
Look forward to meeting all of you!!!!

Because of that late night, I didn't get up till noon, but my washer is going, my suitcases are out, and I'm looking for my blue velvet dress! (There isn't much reason to wear that here in Fla.)
Does anyone remember what it costs to have one dress steamed on board? I don't want to do it here then take it in a garment bag to get wrinkled...

Steve and Lisa, Randy, and Chickenlady,
I'm sending prayers your way along with some pixie dust I caught as Tinkerbell sailed over my house last night on her way to the MK. She shouted down that it was special pixie dust just for you!!! What do you think of that?
We really are praying for all of you, this trip is just what we all need, but you more than most. Take care of each other,
Karyn, As far as books for your trip across country, anything by Mary Stewart, especially the Merlin trilogy, are wonderful! If you're not into King Arthur, the later books are mysteries. I don't know if you can get them in regular bookstores anymore, but you can find them at used bookstores all the time. They have them on tape too. I'm bringing one of her later books on the ship so I'll give it to you or anyone who needs it as soon as I'm done on board.

Gary, way to go on the hats. Quite a load off your shoulders, eh? Ahem, is that the only hats you got? Can't wait for this evenings photo presentations. Sorry about the cow last nite. But, with the way beef prices have been raising, got to do what you got to do to get fresh meat. Watching the Blue Collar Group now. It is a riot.
abusymommy, welcome back!
Bobby, glad you got the link in time to see the ship. I still missed it today. I was at the office when I saw your note and then by the time I finished up, it was too late.
Jen, thanks for getting this crazy man's mind straight with dizdadof2 and dizmomof2. I was REALLY confused.
Got some last minute things picked up for the trip. You know, important stuff like red ribbon to make door ties, flamingo stir sticks, and that kind of stuff.
Karyn, Lord of the Rings is at our town movie this weekend so that is where we are spending our evening. Can't beat it - $3 each plus $4 for 2 large pops and a large popcorn. So, for $10 we get a full evening of entertainment. Won't beat some of the laughs we get here, but it is good therapy.
Have fun, see you tomorrow!

Get this...for us New Englanders...
"Potential for a significant winter storm Monday night and Tuesday "
and then...
"The weather will dry out with continued below normal temperatures Wednesday into Thursday. The next storm will arrive late Thursday night or early Friday and bring are next chance of snow or perhaps a mixed bag. However, the track of the storm remains very uncertain this far out so will not go into too much detail. "

You didn't mention my favorite Mary Stewart, 'Touch Not The Cat'. Did you read that one? It has a tie in to the Merlin trilogy. For anyone confused about the 'trilogy' in my title, there is a 4th book, but it's so depressing with Arthur and Mordred killing each other and the quest, I only read it once.

Oooh, ender's game, I have wanted to listen/read that forever!
For audio books, I have Memoirs of a Geisha, which I LOVED...and it's pretty PG, believe me...and fascinating. HOw about Stephen King? I have "From a buick 8", which is very...well, unusual Stephen King....very "freaky" rather than gory, so unlike him. It creeped me out. I have "The Blind Assassin", which is interesting in that it's a story about a story, and it's fascinating to listen to, but I'm a HUGE Margaret Atwood fan.

Nikki, I'm leaving at the crack of doom on Wednesday morning from Chicago Midway.
Touch not the Cat wasn't my favorite - oh, but I told you what those were. I might like to get something like old favorites like Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre. I could enjoy them for a long drive. Oh, or I'd love one of my all time favorite books - A Town Like Alice. but I don't suppose that's available. I think I'd prefer to get a Nora Roberts - but, my mom, you know. Randy listened to one of her longer ones on his way out. I'm blanking on the name.
The only slogan left in my Kitchen is a magnet that says "Live each moment as if your hair was on fire!" Oh, and two DEAN magnets.
Well I need to write a lesson for tomorrow - it will be the last time I teach at my church - if I think about it, I'll just start crying and then I won't need a lesson. It will be a very tough day. I did really well at the packing, with my mom's help. Loads left but huge progess has been made.
Cheers to all! I'm lifting my glass of wine to all of my DIS friends - then I'm studying!

Nice job on the hats, Gary. You and Gail look pretty spiffy!
Snow stopped here but they say we could get enough to shovel by Monday morning. Most of it will be north and east of us. Yes, Nikki, the closest bigger city is Sioux Falls. It's about two hours from here and that's where we are flying from on Friday. We're leaving here after Cheri finishes her pre-school class on Thursday. Actually, I left about a week ago because I haven't been able to think of much else.
So, tell me, when and where do they have the theme nights like were discussed many pages ago? You know, 60's or 70's night. I'm ready to do "The Hustle" and it's one that can be done from a chair too.
Karyn, LOTR was a good movie. No offense though, I wouldn't be able to sit through as many showings as you have. Everything from the waist down goes numb after three and a half hours. Makes getting up and walking out a real experience.

Lady's, I read mostly Nora Roberts, she's a fast read and the spice in her story keeps thing interesting, but I don't have small children and neither Matt or Dean have any interest in reading my books.
About cooking, I agree with wanting to cook when I want to, and not those everyday same meal as last week. All of you with children know that pizza and chicken nuggets are the kids favorite, and that just isn't cooking. My problem is that my Mom was a head cook, I have 3 older sisters that cook as well as my mom, but I don't seem to like it the way they do. I am great at baking, and even have collected cookie cutters and must have 200::blush:
I have many other talents though so I don't feel too bad.
We are turning in, have a good night and will join you tomorrow.:D

Dean,
the 'decade' dance parties are in Rockin' Bar D. It's on Beat street on deck 3. There are two other clubs there too, one for cigar smoking and drinking brandy, and the other one is the new sports bar that took over for the ESPN club. That's probably where the Superbowl will be shown. It's not very big, so I suppose they will also show it at the Promenade lounge and maybe someplace else.
When we were on board in Oct. they didn't have a 50's night, and that's my favorite, with the swing and all that fun stuff, but they did have 70's night.
I don't know how you remember the Hustle, but it's not something you could do in a chair unless it's a wheelchair! all that moving around and changing directions... I'll figure out a way somehow!
I'm going to try to go to sleep, with visions of Hot Chocolate Souffle' dancing in my head...yum!

I think that the new sports bar is where common grounds use to be on deck 9 midship, because they moved common grounds to where the ESPN Club use to be, and renamed it the stack. So yes that does mean the the new sports bar is small but when the kids were in there, there was a huge tv, so watching the super bowl in there actually might not be to bad.
Just a lil FYI

The new sports bar is where Dueling Pianos used to be on Beat Street... sniff, sniff, I'm going to miss Fidelio and Jeff tickling the ivories... What used to be Common Grounds on Deck 9 is now a gourmet coffee house and internet cafe ... The old ESPN club is now "The Stack" which is the teen hangout... I saw some pictures of the new sports bar and it looks like there are several TV's so you should be able to see the game from wherever you are sitting (or standing...). Do we know who's performing at half time yet? What time does the game usually start?
Dean, I'm looking forward to seeing you do the hustle in your speedo and toque on 70's night... the video camera will definitely be running that night...
'night all...

Good morning! Why am I up at 4:30am? Oh, that's right, I fell asleep on my theology books! Not even Nora Roberts could have kept me awake last night.
Annie, It was I!!!! I confess (oh, that's right, Baptists don't do confession - they probably don't read Nora Roberts either), I mentioned "Madame Will You Talk?" as one of my two favorite Mary Stewart books. Oh, I had an idea, if Randy's not up to being a contestant in the speedo/toque fashion show, maybe we can get him a microphone and he can MC the event! Since we ladies get to be the judges! I packed my hall closet and found all our toques! I will never ever think of them as ski caps again! Is dancing in the speedos a requirement? Cause my Randy can't dance! He's got not one ounce of rythmn in that bod - pretty strange for a professional musician!
dismomof2 - I'm still thinking about it. What do you think Renae, if I go w/ them I wouldn't get to go w/ you, BUT I also wouldn't have to remember to call Capt Marvins which I keep forgetting! I'm also toying w/ the idea of doing the horsback riding which is supposed to be so great on Grand Cayman. I really need to decide.
Dean, re. LOTR, Of course, I am SOOOO much younger than you! I feel almost guilty that I've only seen ROTK 8 times cause it definitely was my favorite. I saw FOTR 30 and TTT 20 times in the theaters! BUT I just can't, I have way too much to get done, I can't justify the time. Maybe that's what I'll do the night Jill is staying over at Stetson Univ. Renae, want to join me? I would like nothing better than to settle into a COMFY theater seat (that's the trick, Dean, you got to have a good theater to see it in! The dollar theaters are excruciating!) and watch it and have a very BIG cry. All the separations at the end kinda get to me!
Gary, Gail: tres chick! That lime green will clash nicely w/ my lime green outfit! I may have to make Randy wear the lime one! But then y'all will be walking up to him asking who he is and he'll say Randy and you'll think it's Annie's Randy!
I'm looking forward to seeing the new areas. The only one that I wasn't impressed with from the pictures was The Stack - a bit sterile and bright for a teen hangout. We'll have to see how all the 16 yr olds in this gang like it! I like that The Cove (previously Common Ground) adds some internet space for adults.
I understand that there's some pretty funny stuff going on in Diversions on the non-sports nights.
All right! Now that the caffeine is doing it's thing I need to crack my commentary on Galations and figure out how I can teach the "no male nor female" thing to a bunch of Baptists in the oh so conservative Wheaton, IL! Pastor Dave, why did you stick me w/ this passage? Was it cause I'm leaving and you won't have to kick me out afterward! What can I say, I'm a renegade! (I wonder what kind of church I'll end up at in WA?)
abusymommy, where do you live? I'm in Wheaton (for about 3 more weeks). Are you flying out of OHare or Midway? We almost always fly down on Southwest, or sometimes ATA outta Midway cause we get the best times/prices.
Nikki, have you got my forecast for Wednesday morning yet?

Good morning everyone!
I have to say that I spent all yesterday thinking-- Next week at this time -- I will be boarding the ship
Next week at this time I will be at the sail away party!
Next week at this time-- I will be eating dinner.
Next week at this time-- I will be partying the night away!!!!
I think I probably drive everyone at work crazy and they can't wait until I go either!!! I know they are all sick of hearing about it!
So my question is-- what book are you bringing with you on the cruise? Oprah just announced her new one-- "One hundred years of Sollitude" and I ran out and got it.
Well I'm off to do my long run of the week-- 10 miles!
See you all real soon!

Good morning!
My book(s) - I want to finish Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, and I'm taking along "Pompeii", which is the next book club selection at work, as well as "Three Swans", which is a true story of 3 generations of Chinese women. Not sure which one I'll read first. :)

Hey Karyn, here's the latest discussion:
THE UPR LOW FINALLY PASSES ON TUESDAY WITH SFC RIDGING APPEARING OVER THE AREA ONCE AGAIN AND LAKE EFFECT SNOWS FOR NWRN INDY APPEARING TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS IS SHORTLIVED WITH RIDGE PASSAGE WED MRNG AND ANOTHER CLIPPER SPEEDING DOWN THE UPR NW FLOW. THUS MORE
SNOW WED NGT AND THURSDAY.
In English, this means that you're going to have snow Monday, with some LES appearing Tuesday night...you get a ridge passage, which is "high pressure", which is "good", Weds morning, so your flight out should be good if this timing doesn't change...with a "clipper", ie. a fast moving weather system from the north, coming through Weds night/Thurs...you're leaving just in time!

Today's the day to finish off the last minute packing. Sounds like we are not along, eh, Gary? Our cat's can tell we are getting ready for something. Maybe it's the extra litter.
It is freezing drizzle out now and looks like we still may get some fluffy stuff latter today. Then, it leaves us and moves your way. Hope it isn't a slow mover and gets out of your way in a hurry so as not to cause any travel delays for our group.

Good Morning, everyone!!!
Karyn - If Randy is only the MC for the fashion show, he still has to wear the outfit!! What do you think? Or will this be another opportunity for him to wear his tux? Good luck with your lesson today...
Dorie - I did the same thing yesterday and when I woke up today, my first thought was... this time next week, we will be sailing into Key West... 10 miles!!! You are my hero!!! I can't even do 10 blocks yet!
As far as what book I'm taking, I haven't decided between a John Grisham (I'm thinking Runaway Jury since I haven't seen the movie yet) or a mindless romance... but now Karyn has me interested in dusting off Madame, Will You Talk? Decisions, decisions!

Karyn,
First, I second the idea that your Randy should be the judge in the toque/speedo contest, unless he's just trying to get out of being in it, that is, then he's up there with all the other guys!
As for ROTK, I'm going to be involved in family stuff from Wed. on. I'm sorry, and I really wish I could make it, because I haven't even seen it once! Oh well, maybe later... Enjoy it though, The theatres at Downtown Disney are great, and I think it's still there.

I just read Runaway Jury and really liked it. I read somewhere on the boards that the movie should be onboard when we are. That would be great! I am bringing one of the Mary Stewart books for the DIS meet if we can get the aft verandah, and DH is bringing Harry Potter #5. I wonder if we can get the staff to give us some goodies for our little outing? That could make it interesting. Our family has had reading parties since our kids started to read. We all get together in the LR to read with treats, big pillows, blankets, (this was in Utah where it got cold) and hot chocolate or something else. It was a great family time!

Renae, I figured you were busy on Wednesday! Sigh. I don't think I'll come all the way back to Downtown Disney from De Land - think I'll stay up there.
We could get cheese plates (from the room service menu) and wine glasses delivered to the aft deck - I've heard other groups doing that. So is our wine and book chat going to be a reality? Do I need to pack a couple extra bottles of something special?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd really like to do the book thing. There's something about a bunch of people who all like to read getting together that really appeals to me! I like the cheese plate idea and we can't forget about those great cookies! I'm sure we can have all the drinks of every kind we want. For me, there will be a huge glass of lemonade from the deck 9 drink station. It's really good! Let's see if we can get everyone else to join us there. Now, how to make sure there is nobody else there at the time, especially people who may be smoking. That would make it so I can't be there at all...

After she calms down and dries off the tears, I asked her what she was laughing at. And, I quote: "Those people on the board can't imagine what you'd look like in a speedo, and I can" end quote.
Now if that isn't a confidence builder, eh?

$50 for the RainForest Room sounds about right. That's where you'll find me most of the cruise. I only wish it were open later (it closes at 10 PM) so I don't have time after a late dinner to relax in the steam.
With so much to do before a double cruise, I had resigned myself not to read anymore post--but alas, I couldn't stay away.
So I caught up on the reading while I am sitting here burning CDs. Don't want to take the originals on board--just in case.
We leave Thursday am. and are staying in the Royal Plaza for a couple of nights--across the street from the Market Place. I got La Nubia tickets for Thursday.
We will probably go to Epcot and check out Mission Space on Friday. Maybe hop over to MK for the fireworks.
Speedy recovery and well wishes to those of you who are not feeling yourselves.

Hello to everyone. It took me and hour and 45 minutes to catch up with the posts. Judi and I are now in Lake City, FL. Palm trees, 70 degree weather at 8 PM. We drove down from Sparta, TN today in mostly heavy rain. Cleared up just past Macon, GA.
Welcome back from hospital, Randy. I guess they just couldn't stand having you around any longer. Hope you got their emails, so you can send a picture of you recovering on the ship in your speedo with one of those glasses with the little umbrellas.
OK. I'll try to catch up with some replies from last two days of poss.
Renae, I think the idea of a quiet "book" meet on the aft deck is good. Perhaps on one of the "at sea" days.
Nikki, you said that your kids wanted to know why they had to come to dinner with you on the first night. Try telling them that the servers need to have them at the table to get paid and any tips. ;) Or tell them you want the other nearby people in the dining room to be able to recognize them and report to you if they see any mischief. Or, you could say it's so you don't have to eat your meal and theirs too.
Steve and Lisa, sorry to hear that you've not been well. It's scary, I know. We pray that all will turn out well.
Karyn, you said you wanted to keep Randy as DH AND be married to a chef. I see two ways to accomplish this, probably both are difficult. First possibility = retrain Randy. Judi keeps saying that I have potential, she's just having difficulty getting me to live up to it. This may be Randy's problem on becoming a Chef. Second possibility = get a second husband. Didn't you say you were moving = maybe it needs to be to Utah.
Gary = GREAT hats. I can't wait to get ours.
Shingle - If the PMs are not showing, look to see if you are just displaying the last 5 or 10 days worth. If you set the display to since beginning, you may find a lot out there.
Karyn or Nikki - did you make reference to Ender's Shadow? Is is any good? I don't think I've read it, and have a Border's Book Store gift card in my wallet. I've liked most of his other books.
I'm reading Cussler's Trojan Oddysey now, but will like be finished by Tuesday. I've got a few more books to take, but will need more. Sitting on the cruise deck in the sun reading is very appealing to me.

Hi! I had a blast at our Mom's Night Out. We saw a great play at Jeff Daniel's theater, The Purple Rose, in Chelsea, Michigan. It was called "Leaving Iowa", and it just had us in tears we were laughing so hard. What a crazy night. Of course all us Mommys stayed up to the "crack of doom" talking. The hotel was jammed with a bunch of high school hockey players in town for a tournament. At 3:30am, someone pulled the fire alarm and we had to clear out of our rooms. There was no way we were going outside b/c it was -5F. Oh, that wasn't someone in our group that pulled the fire alarm.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
:teeth:
Randy - so glad you are better and back on the board. Did the hospital say anything about us keeping the bedpans? It looks good on me, and I'd like to keep it for the sail away party.
Welcome Back Steve & Lisa! You've had your share of illnesss, and now it's time to look forward to the cruise! I spent my summers up by Inverhuron Beach on the Bruce Penninsula as a kid. Is that close to you? My cousins still live in Kincardine and Toronto. Gotta love those bag pipe parades on Saturday Night.
Oh, Oh, a lime green kilt as a cover-up for all you speedo wearing types. Lovely! :sunny:
Karyn - I can't imagine how you are holding it together! I have so much going on before we leave on Tuesday morning and if I added packing my house up as well.....
Karyn & Renae - I would love to join in the book reading get together. You were reading my mind when you mentioned the cheese from Room Service. Early am, late afternoon, or whenever we can get it in on the at sea days. I always say, if you're willing to plan it, you get to pick the time. Right now, I couldn't devote the bandwidth to thinking about one yet another thing. So, I'll just go along with whatever transpires.
I can't believe how little sleep I'm operating on, so I better crash. DS is taking Hetti, our dog, to the kennel for me in the early am, and I want to make sure I'm up to say, "Goodbye" (Sniff-Sniff.) To both the dog and my son of course. :teeth:
Good-night ladies and gentlemen. Have a terrific day tomorrow.

Cold and windy here today - really blowing the new snow around. It was good hearing from you, Cap. Glad you and Judi made it with no problems.
I probably won't get to post much today, so don't wait around for me. Have at it and build those post numbers up so we give others a goal to shoot for on their cruises.
Talk to you later.

Hope everyone is ready for a fun Monday.
We learn from experience - hopefully other's mistakes. Things to remember to pack (which Judi or I forgot):
: Red Bow Tie
: New toothbrush
: Door magnets
: Long (e.g. 20') Ethernet cord. A six foot one doesn't cut it when the high speed Internet port is on the other side of the room from the desk.
:$1 bills - lots of them for tips, etc.
We're off to drive from Lake City Fl (near north border), to Naples FL (south on Gulf side). I'll catch up again tomorrow.

I think that Karyn read it and I've always wanted to - I was surprised to see it offered in my son's reading club at school, marketed like a kids book...is it, Karyn?
I've read Scott Card's books about the women from the bible, they are AMAZING...I've read 2 of the 3 he's going to write - Rebecca and Sarah. After "The Red Tent" by Diamante, I've been looking for an experience like that one, but haven't found it yet...those two came close tho...

Cap, I hope you're enjoying yourself down where it's warm! "Ender's Shadow" is Bean's story and it takes place at the same "time" as "Ender's Game" but it's told from Bean's point of view. It's good.
Dean, don't desert us today! We need you!
Bobby, yes, the anchors in the design on the floors of the halls indicate which direction is which - just don't ask me whether blue points forward of if red does!
Mary Jo, wow, Lamont! That's such an easy distance from Midway. I have a good friend that lives there. I'm sure everyone groaned when you asked where I'm moving - they've had to put up w/ my whining for 145 pages! But to keep it short we're moving to Western Washington (state that is) and my DH, one of the Randys - the one that doesn't post - is already out there. So I'm packing the house w/ my DS#1 and his DF in the way; and my DD who is coming with us on the Magic is packing all her life to move to a friend's for a few months later to go to FL for college. So two days after we get back, the movers are coming; and a few days after that I'm driving across the country - leaving my kids behind! There - the short version!
The really good news is that with a little more cleanup and packing some small stuff, I'm pretty much done - to the point that Monday and Tuesday after we get back should be not too painful as far as packing goes. I think I actually have time to do lunch w/ friends and relax a bit. I've got a lot of garbage to get out today and quite a bit of cleaning and tidying - but the final pack out should go smoothly! I'm almost there . . . Remind me to NEVER do this again! (unless I'm moving to FL to retire!)
I'm so excited that we're all going to meet so soon!
Renae, I'm going to send you a pm!

Welcome to the 5 day Shuffle!!! For those of you who haven't started packing yet, it's a fast trot, soon to be a sprint to the finish line!!!
We're putting the finishing touches on our packing. I was even trying on clothes this morning before work!
Jami, Gail and I, along with Randy, Ann and JJ, will be in the same parks at WDW on Friday!!! Look for the Lime Green and Carribean Blue hats!!!

Gary! I want to find yous guys on Friday! I want my hat!!!!! Come online soon and I'll im you Jill's NEW cell phone number. I'll be hanging around the computer for a couple hours. I will admit freely in front of everyone here, tho, that I will NOT go on Mission Space again! So if you don't mind, I'll wait outside or ride Test Track in the single line while I'm waiting for everybody! There are only a few rides I won't do and that's one of them. Done it three times and it got progressively worse for me. I LOVED it the first time. Everyone should try it once.
I've got some finishing touches to do on the FL/DCL packing but am oh so close to being done! I am so ready to boogie!

Good morning all. Welcome back, Randy. Busy weekend. Lots of birthday parties.
I got the Costco snorkel gear! http://e4u.deltait.com.au/sport/sport17.gif
My back hurts from shoveling snow this morning. http://e4u.deltait.com.au/sport/sport27.gif No school for the kiddos. Supposed to have ice and freezing rain tomorrow and more snow forecast for my leave date, Friday. Yuch.
Shopping center catstrophe of the week...da da da dah...power outage!!! http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/crazy/322.gif No power, no heat, no heat, frozen pipes. I got my call about 8:15 last night. Thought I was going to actually squeak through a weekend without a problem. Spent the night with the police, the electric company, ALL THE TENANTS, the owner...my poor, patient DBF. I haven't told the owner yet that I will be unreachable on the ship (or $6.95/minute reachable.).
Since I've worked the last 3 weekends, the shooping center is letting me work from home today. That means, unless a tenant calls or there's another catastrophe, I can pack. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/fam/fam21.gif I'll check in during the day.
The4OfUs
01-26-2004, 10:38 AM
=/ That STINKS that there were more frozen pipe issues...we're expecting snow tomorrow/Weds, and then possibly some on Friday, but I'm thinking positive.
Hey, I'm trying to write up contact/itinerary info for family and friends, does anyone know what # someone would call if there were an emergency, to get through to me on the ship? I know I can call OUT, but can they call IN, and if so, what's the #???

Ya know, my family are "Survivor-a-holics"...what's the bet that we can't watch it on board after the Superbowl...cause that's on CBS. Ah well, I have my bestest friend in the whole wide world taping it for me...but it'd be fun to scream and yell at the TV when we see all those "baddies" from past Survivors return for more...

http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/mad/1106.gif From atop the soapbox:
I just realized that many of you will be leaving for Florida as early as today or tomorrow and probably won’t be able to be back on the boards. So, as this thread comes to a close, I just wanted to let you know how much fun it has been these past 6-8 months visiting with all of you. There have been a few of you that I have offended with my dry humor, speedo jokes or some of my smilies. Please know that if I did so, it was not intentional and accept my apologies, again. I would never intentionally want to upset those with whom I have become very close over these past months. There are some who are going through some very difficult times and I’m glad if I could occasionally bring a smile to their faces or just to let them know they are in the thoughts of many of us.
I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge about DCL and what to expect on our first ever cruise. I have always wanted to take a cruise and have jokingly said that I would when pigs fly. So, the first time I got on, the first avatar I saw was a flying pig. I knew then that this was the place for me.
So, there. It has all been said and now all that is left is getting there and then THE cruise. Have fun, be safe in your travels, and I look forward to meeting each of you on board. Thank you very much for allowing me to join you.
Now, I’ve got an image to maintain as a grumpy ol’ man whose speedo is probably too tight. So I will see you soon. DON'T BE LATE!
I’ll be the quite one who is conservatively dressed hiding in the corner hoping no one will notice him. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/happy/044.gif

I don't know if I can catch up on the thread. I tried to skim through. If it wouldn't take a ream of paper, I would print it out to re-read through the entire -- what page page are we on, 168?-- well lets call it 170+ pages, on the airplane ride down.
I can't believe it's almost time. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
I am having anxiety about the weather. Tomorrow and Wed. are looking not so good still, Thursday better and then more snow on Friday!! :earseek:  :earseek: Our plans were to work 1/2 day in the morning and then catch an early evening flight. Suddenly I feel like that's not enough buffer!!!!
Anyway, in skimming the pages I missed over the weekend, I have a few thoughts -- sorry, but I would comment on more things, but there was no time for notes!
Randy!!! Welcome back!! Glad to see they let you out! Take care of yourself.
Gary - The hats look GREAT!
Nikki - you got me thinking about a trip to Walmart for new pjs for the cruise!! Unfortunately, between the weather, packing, and work, I can't figure out when I can go.
Books -- I have enjoyed seeing some of the books that everyone is reading and/or bringing. I found one over the weekend that I thought looked cool. The Bone Island Mambo -- It's be Tom Corcoran and it's a mystery that takes place in Key West. I haven't read any of his other books, but thought I would give this a try for the cruise. Also got Chasing The Dime - Michael Connelly. I like his Harry Bosch novels, but this one is different. I do not read very fast, so chances are I won't get to the second one on the trip, but you never know.
Safe travels everyone!!! I can't wait to meet everyone. I hope to check in a couple times before we leave, but many are already going to be on their way. Best wishes, prayers and pixie dust to everyone during your travels.

I've been packing all afternoon. Actually, mostly arguing with my kids :chat: about why they don't need 23 pairs of pants and 32 nail polishes for one week. And they will survive a week without a play station. Good grief. Did someone say you're not supposed to bring a travel iron? I can't possibly stuff all these clothes into one suitcase a piece and not expect to spend most of the cruise running back and forth from the laundry room to iron everything.
Dean - that was very well said. This forum has been a lot of fun. I've never been in a chat environment before. I think my friends here think I'm crazy (ier) - talking up a storm with a bunch of strangers. I feel like I know you all. Thanks for sharing your joys and sorrows and making me laugh out loud. Thanks for helping build up excitement about the cruise. ::yes:: This is my first ever cruise too, Dean.
Now, I'm not only looking forward to the cruise, but I'm looking forward to meeting all of you too.
To echo Dean, I hope everyone has safe, crisis-free trips. Stay warm the next few days. I'm looking forward to sharing a froofroo toast with all my new friends.

HI everyone,
I haven't been around much...had to shovel my way to the computer. :sunny:
I too am a bit intimidated by all of this bad weather...it seems to just keep coming and coming!!! We are in for a major ice and snow storm overnight tonight. Probably no school tomorrow which cuts down my alone time to get things ready to go. Oh well...will have to find something to entertain the kiddies!!
Just took my DD -7 to her first orthodontist appt. She is in for some major work due to her thumbsucking when she was younger. Yikes! May not be able to afford a cruise for next year after getting an estimate on the dental work...about $2000!!!!
And DS-6 also thumbsucked...the orthodontist is already smiling at the idea of having him as a patient next year!
I still have some last minute purchases to make for our trip but have not been able to get out to buy to them...I am really cutting it close now!
Maybe I can hitch a ride on a snow plow into town!!??:teeth:
Take care and I will probably check in tonight! I was to attend a high school rezoning meeting tonight however the snow may keep me in!
Everyone stay well and safe travels!!

As much as I'd like to plan this party, I'll just have to try to make it there. With us working our week around my D IL's, I don't know what we will be doing when. It would be better if someone else did the planning and roping off of the secret verandah. If we did it on an afternoon of a sea day, then it wouldn't be in the way of a Palo Brunch for anyone, and it won't mess up dinner plans. Other than that, I won't be much help. Sorry! Just let me know when and where, and I'll try to be there.

Hey, Renae-
I didn't mean to ignore you. It's just that old-timers disease I'm inflicted with, eh?
The site I use most often is www.emoticons4u.com. I haven't gotten a lot of popups ads from it. There is another one at click-smilies.com that is terrible for ads and pop-ups. I had to download spyware to get rid of the embedded codes. There is one more I have used called mysmilies.com that has a bigger assortment but not as many animated icons. It too has not left me with pop-ups.
Hope that helps.

Although my superhero talents are recognized the world over, http://e4u.deltait.com.au/dressed/bek031.gif I cannot take credit for this last list. Barbara did all of the hard work in sorting out the stateroom numbers, putting them into order, and then alphabetically listing the remainder of the names. Our weather forecast is pretty iffy the rest of the week too. Looks like lots of the wet stuff :umbrella: in various formats. The bright side is that we'll all appreciate those blue skies, warm air and tropical breezes a lot more when we get there.

Hi everyone - we are leaving on Wednesday, so this will likely be the last time I post (otherwise I will miss the plane because I'll be busy reading all the great posts!!!) Randy and I are looking so forward to meeting all of you - you have all become friends over this past few months, and it will be great to spend some time together in person (although the virtual parties were great and perhaps we can carry on with them after the cruise!!) Thanks for putting together the list, Dean and for being a super co-chair of this thread... Gary, you did a mighty fine job, too!!!

Hi everyone,
I have been pretty quiet but I have been keeping up with the posts. I think for my job security it is good that I only discovered this board in the last week because I got hooked pretty quickly.
You are all such good friends already... I hope to catch up to you guys on board and be included....:
When I showed my DH the list and the different posts he thought I was crazy...Internet meetings.....I think I scared him LoL....
Well my dear southern neighbors, let me tell you that any pre-conceived ideas you may have about the weather in Canada would be totally accurate today. 45 cm that's about 20" of that white stuff with winds strong enough to shake my van, visibility is almost at 0. It's freaking cold eh!
I am panicking about packing. My god this cruising thing is a bit more challenging than resort life. Formal, casual,.....
I bought DH a "froufrou" drink shirt....I'll fit right in. I, on the other hand, will be happy to get into something that fits.
I am an avid reader too. My favorite authors are Meave Binchy and Jeffrey Archer. And I have a big weakness for hot romance novels too.
Well, we fly out on Friday morning....very early....too early as far as I am concerned.
One last question. What is a good night to book for Palo, I mean what or which restaurant should I not care to miss?
See Saturdays cruisers

Thanks for the outstanding list! It will help us to find you guys when we get onboard. I've only been on these boards for a short time, but what a great group of people you all are. Thanks for making me feel welcome!
Best wishes for safe travels for everyone. Let's pray that none of us get snowed in. We'll see you all when we board. I think that we are supposed to be looking for someone from the DIS boards as we board. Anyone rememebr who we were supposed to meet?

Once again, I'm up late before a travel day. Pretty much everything is all packed. Need to write some addresses down for postcards, put in some loose ends. Thank goodness I'm reading the board tonight. I suddenly realized that I forgot to pack the little guys dress shirts, ties, and jackets! I bet I was subconciously hoping I could then order them tuxes. Oh well. Better save the $$ for frou-frou drinks.
I made a concious decision to overpack and it feels really good. Usually, I say I'm packing light and get all worked up about what to eliminate. I just sat there looking at it and thought, I don't want to think about this (ala Scarlet O'hara), I'll just pack it all. Phew, I feel so much better.
Reading Rendevouz - once I'm away from home I bet I could think of this a bit more. I'm not sure what free time I actually have b/c we already booked things on the sea days via the R.E.A.S. (Remember the code? - Romantic Escape at Sea for the new folks). So, I'm hedging on a committment here...just saying I'll think about it once I'm on the plane. If it doesn't come together before Saturday would everyone be ok with a message on their phone with a day and time?
Well, better get to bed. I'll be able to check in from the in-laws.
Juli
P.S. Didn't really have time to respond to all the great discussions. Hope everyone has a safe journey. Thanks so much to the co-chairs and friends that put together the list for us, organized get togethers, and kept us going the last few months. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I will definitely be wearing Lime Green when boarding the ship!!! Sure that will make it easy.

Okay I am up way too late doing laundry.
Here is a little Canadian humour for you all! enjoy and safe travels to the many of you that are on your way tomorrow (Wed.)
Three men were traveling and happened to meet at a bar in Ohio. One man
was from Texas, one from Florida and one from Canada. They got acquainted and started talking about their problems with their wives.
The guy from Texas began by saying, "I told my wife clearly that from now on
she would have to do all of the cooking. Well, the first day after I
told her, I saw nothing. The second day I saw nothing, but on the third day
when I came home from work, the table was set, and a wonderful dinner was
prepared with wine and even dessert."
Then the man from Florida spoke up "I sat my wife down and told her,
that from now on she would have to do all the grocery shopping and all
of the house cleaning. The first day I saw nothing. The second day I saw
nothing.
But the third day, when I came home, the whole house was spotless, and
in the pantry the shelves were filled with groceries."
The fellow from Canada was married to a woman who had grown up in Canada all her life.
He sat up straight on the bar stool, pushed out his chest
and said. "I gave my wife a stern look and told her, that from now on she
would have to do the cooking, shopping and house cleaning. Well, the first
day I saw nothing. The second day I saw nothing. But by the third day, I
could see a little bit out of my left eye."

Dean, thanks for the smilie link. It will come in handy.
To whoever said the lime green paint chips were gone, I bet it's all DIS'ers, we used them on our last 2 cruises and we weren't the only ones wearing them! I'll be wearing my big pin with the paint chip from last time, so you can recognize me.
It looks like there will be very few of us left in a couple of days, I'm always the last one posting because I don't have to travel far. It's just one of the perks of living here! Anyone who wants to move, I can tell you that it's the best thing we ever did!!!

Guess I'm the first up this morning!
At this moment I'm looking at more to do than I think I have ever had to do in one day.
dismomof2 - count the three of us in - I'll pm you.
Dean, a few pages back you so eloquently expressed how much this group has meant to you and I couldn't agree more. Over the past 6 1/2 months this group has become my family. Gary and Gail have become aunt and uncle to a couple of my kids! I know that a week of dining with Dean and Cheri and Matt will result in a lifelong friendship that I am looking forward to w/ huge anticipation. The last 4 months have been the most stressful ever in my life, but I've had this place to be at home and to relax and laugh. I honestly don't know what I would have done without all of you.
Like others of you, I'm thrilled that tomorrow morning I'm flying out of here and after I thaw out for a couple days, we're going to meet and be together for the best cruise ever! BUT I'm sad that this fellowship here will be ending. There are a couple solutions - we can move our gang to the community board and keep this up . . . OR you could all sign up for the 10-day Christmas cruise . . .OR we can all sign up (on board) for another cruise next winter. If we do the last, we can be right back on here the very next week and keep the conversation going! We just need to know what date we're doing next! Suggestions?
Anyway, I'll help w/ the book thing - talk to me at the meet, or look for me w/ Gail and Gary waving from the balcony on the left when you walk in.
I will be toward the front of the line - I will be in ALL LIME GREEN (t-shirt and capris) and Jill will have a lime green shirt on. We will have our Gary/Gail Special Hats on. Dean, Cheri and Matt - I'm saving you a space in line, find me!
One last thing: looking out the window today, I'm greeted by all white everywhere! But the forecast for tomorrow morning is cold and clear. Nikki, you nailed it!
Once I leave, I don't know when I can check in again. Maybe Jill can from Stetson. If you're there when we are and we'll be in the parks Thurs afternoon and Fri you can reach ou cell phone: 630/379-8214. (I'll edit that out before I leave tomorrow so write it down now!)
I'll be checking in today from time to time. Have a GREAT day of prep or travel or if you're already there - ENJOY!!!!

Good morning cruisers! We're leaving right after work on Friday. The weather's not looking good for today, ice and freezing rain. http://e4u.deltait.com.au/dressed/bek154.gif But Friday's forecast now only says light snow. Yippee!
I saw dizdad's question about an ethernet cable. Is there internet access in the rooms? http://www.techhelpers.net/e4u/comp/comp03.gif
Those Costco snorkel sets are very nice. http://e4u.deltait.com.au/sport/sport24.gif With tax, they're about $40. They have their own cute litle backpack. The snorkel tubes (whatever you call them) close when you go under water. That's great for us swimming-challenged individuals that keep forgetting when you're supposed to breathe in and when you're supposed to breathe out, thus inhaling huge quantities of water at the wrong time. I picked mine up on Sunday afternoon and they had a couple cases. By Monday night, they were down to about 6 left! Amazing. With all this snow, you would think most people wouldn't even look at them.
I can't remember who's the panicked packer, but I'm getting there. I was reading my packing tips list last night and was surprised at how many items I forgot to put in the suitcases. Sigh http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/sad/1012.gif, back to the grocery store tonight. DS has developed a cold. He has allergies and his Dad has 2 cats. Every time he visits him after an extended absence, he gets cold symptoms. They usually develop into a bronchial or sinus infection within a week. Another big sigh. Do they let people on the ship if they're coughing and blowing their nose? http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/sad/533.gif

Karyn - I can't imagine packing to move and coordinating that whole effort while taking my daughter to look at colleges AND going on a vacation. You must be SuperWoman!!!
I packed most of our stuff yesterday for a Friday night departure. Still have lots of things to pick up, like night light bulbs, film and cash for tips.

Wow, my DP's never helped me with any of MY projects growing up!! On our last cruise, i got so incredibly far behind in my classes that my grades dropped sigificantly- DM was not pleased, but i'm convinced it was worth it! At least you're going at the beginning of a semester (or quarter...?) instead of almost near the end! Just think, it'll seem like no time and they'll all be graduated like me http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/party/fest31.gif And then you get to take everyone on a Graduation cruise... like me!!!

Just came in from shovelling again. As dizmomof2 said, it's still snowing.
Flight is still scheduled on time tomorrow at 7:15 AM - Minus 2 hours for security, 1.5 hours for the regular 30 minute drive. Packing still left to do.....so much for sleep.
Are there hair dryers in the cabins? (for Isabel, I don't have enough to worry about)
With the snow day - no school - I managed to get all of Max's projects done with him - no homework on the boat

Wow, Mike! You better leave now, dude! Sounds like you are going to cut it close. :moped:
Far as hair dryers, I understand (from someone else who actually has hair to worry about) that it is more of a hair warmer. If you need it dry it is better to bring your own.
Drive carefully, and hope to see you on the ship.

Barbara, I am no superwoman! I am barely hanging on to my sanity here! AND I've had some wonderful helpers - friends and family that have supported me thru this. Funny thin is that I completely forgot to go to the Church Council meeting last night, and I'm the clerk - have to take minutes, you know! Oops! Maybe I have a bit too much on the brain! I had to put on sackcloth and ashes and abjectly apologize to the pastor this morning when I finally remembered! lol!
Dean, have you figured out who's going to the the last one standing on this thread. Y'think Renae?
You know what? I think we did it! The house is good to go - a day or so of last minute stuff and it can go right on out the door! Unbelievable! Who'da thunk it?
I have completely mislaid Randy's speedo - I hope he took it to WA with him!
I think I need to book my car. I'll check in later!
Have fun storming the castle!
Karyn
We made it to Florida!
Our plane left Flint late and we missed our connection in Atlanta. We were a couple of hours late, but we are here!
It's cold here according to my in-laws. 65-70 the next two days. Ha-Ha we say. Go back to Michigan if you want to see cold!
Karyn & Jill - we drove past the Stetson exit on the way down from Tampa today. I wish I could come back up and see you tomorrow. It's probably 2 hours away or so. I've heard good things about the school and you can't beat the weather. Have a great trip tomorrow and enjoy your visit.
3:30 must be the magic number for travel. We go up at 3:30 today and left at 4:00am. It's brutal, but no one is on the road and there is no line at the airport. I am now beat and hope to get to bed soon and sleep in tomorrow.
Nikki - how much can I pay you to snag a hat from Dean for me when you are on the bus! Otherwise, I'll be tackling any guy in lime green that I see in the terminal.
BTW - Unless it is 90F out on Saturday, I'll be wearing a lime green shirt and a lime green jean jacket. I have chin length brown hair with highlights. The big give away with us is the two boys close in age and Peter wears glasses. John is a lot bigger than Pete even though they are the same age. John always wears orange and I'm sure he'll be wearing orange on Saturday.
Hope to check back in soon.
Juli
Nose to the keyboards guys!

We did something we've never done before, we packed a "junk" bag. Snorkel gear, glow stuff, laundry bag, hats....kind of like the junk drawer or shelf at home. I had a bunch of stuff on the bed and I told DH to pack it. But then I couldn't remember what was there! Oh Joy! It will be like Christmas when I open it.

Hey, Gary! I think Karyn is regaining her senses. She came up with a good point. So, my esteemed co-chair, a nomination for official light putter-outter has been made in nominating auntrenae. It is now on the floor for further discussion.
Since she is a resident of Orlando, and the most likely to be the last to leave for the ship as well as the host for our Friday night party, it would be the most convenient for her to turn out the lights, make sure the water is off, put out a trail of bread crumbs for any of us who might want to check back after we return.
Any further discussion on the proposed resolution before the co-chairs?
Save me an umbrella drink, Juli!!!!!
You know what would frustrate you efficient packers out there? What I'm looking at on the floor right now. I packed my kids duffle with all the stuff they'd need at Grandma & Grandpas on top. I should have told them it was set up this way. Grandma took them swimming while DH and I went for a walk. When I got back, they had dumped the whole thing out. All their slacks for dinner on the cruise, all their shirts, underwear, everything! And there it sits. I think I'll just go to bed and repack it in the morning. Geez, it never ends!
Oh well, I'm in Florida! I'm going on the Disney Cruise! I'm ok with this! Somebody bring me a fruity drink!

Oh wow! I had a good idea? Oh, cool! Yup, I think it's going to be Renae!
Juli, I'll see Gary before Nikki does! how many hats you want? did you reserve them or do you want the extras?
I'm so tired I'm seeing double and I haven't had an umbrella drink yet and it's only 6 pm! Almost done...keep breathing that's the secret, keep breathing . . .

we're almost there! 2500 is only two away now!

I second Renae as the official Light Putter Outer. This is ecspecially fitting as she is a CM living in the land of the Mouse! And is most likely the best dancer of the bunch and will wiggle her chair over to that switch with an incredible amount of style and grace.
I will refrain from posting again as I would really like to see someone who's never had the honor of a milestone post get the great 2500!
Beside, I must comingle with the in-laws for a bit.
See you real soon.::MickeyMo
