I'm finally wrapping up this project for my soon-to-be DIL's shower gift - a box of recipe cards, both Disney & DS's favorites. I included a couple of things like the table of roasting times for turkey & ham as well as conversions & emergency substitutions.
Can anyone think of anything else that you wish you'd had when you first started out? Or something that would just make this a bit more special?
I think I've been at this project too long. (off & on for over a year  ) Many of the cards have clip art on them & they're in a Longeberger basket, with all the accessories. It sounded much nicer when I started it, but along about now it doesn't seem like very much from the mother of the groom.
Soooo, now that you know my life history . . . . any suggestions?
Thanks!

I think it is a wonderful idea! Something that I would cherish if my MIL gave it to me!
You could always set her up with scrap booking! Make a wedding kit then you can have something to do together for more bonding!

The spices or seasonings to make the recipes. I know that was so expensive getting all the spices etc.
I love the wedding album idea. A little one would be nice 7x7 size or so.
Did you get the little utensils to put in the basket too
wish I could think of something else, guess its past my bedtime and the brain has gone to sleep.

You said you've included DS's favorites but what about those family tradition recipes? I know I have my great grandmother's bread and butter pickle recipe and my grandmother's pickled peaches. Not that I've made them that often but just having them is cool. :p And there are others like an aunt's pie crust, some coffeecakes, and several traditional holiday dishes.
Another idea might be to include a blank recipe book. I received one of these and as I collected recipes it was easier to keep track of them in this than on cards (especially after the card box was filled!) It looks basically like one of those approx. 5 x 7 hardcover journals but inside has a recipe format.
The spices are a great idea! I still remember how expensive those were to add to the cupboard!

Thanks for the great ideas!
I need to apologize for not being more specific. I was thinking of other things to put on the cards. Because I use many of the family tradition recipes, they are included - at least the ones they'll eat. (DS loathes vinegar & mayo. :( )
My original intention, when I started this 2+ years ago, was to also get her the spices she'll need & Tupperware small rounds to store them in. (We have a store nearby that sells fresh spices - MUCH better than using the stuff from the grocery store.) At the time money wasn't an issue.
Unfortunately, both DH & I have been out of work for quite some time & I can't do that for this shower. I'll be going to another, next month, and hope to be able to pull the $$ together by then.

Given the situation (which as your son's fiance I would assume she is aware of) go with what you have. Sounds like a wonderful gift you've put together. Give it with grace and I'm sure she will be delighted. After all if she chose your son she must be a young woman of impeccable taste right?
You know this group - ask for ideas and we'll give you all sorts of thoughts!
