View Full Version : Messy Guests at BCV

We were at the BCV last week (lovely resort) But the people across the hall from us were driving me nuts. Everytime I walked out of my room they had placed their garbage in hall. They must have been cooking all their own meals because they had a lot of it. We called housekeeping a couple of times and they always said they'd take care of it but they didn't seem to. My DH took their garbage away a couple of times because he knew it was bugging me.

They (or someone else) also smashed a banana on the carpet and all over a wall further down the hall (that was really gross). I again called housekeeping but they didn't clean it up until late the next day.

Our trip was great but I couldn't believe how rude these people were. This is probably unfair of me...but I assume they were renting.

This is probably very bad of me, but my thought would be to move their garbage so that it was right in front of their door. They would have to step over it to get out of their room and maybe they would get the message to take the trash to the trash room themselves and not expect housekeeping to pick up after them.

Debby7, I guess we are bad because my DH did that once....but they didn't seem to get the message. The next time we saw the garbage it was back on the side. I think that's when my DH just took it away himself.

I hate when I see people abuse the resorts. The last two trips to VWL I saw many small, but noticible damage to rooms. Missing knobs, scratched walls and marking on the walls. I know accidents happen, but some people are just careless.

I would like someone to give suggestions on what to do with garbage. I haven't had to deal with it, but I am confused as where it should go, if it needed to be emptied before T & T. Maybe this would help to prevent people from putting it in the hall. (In the hall where it could leak and stain the carpets... how careless)

Funny thing is, I was one sentence in and thought to myself, "Renters." I hope they were not owners. But with over 60,000 members, the size of a small city, I suspect we'll have a few winners. Thanks for your post.

All the resorts have garbage areas or rooms. At BCV, there is a garbage/recycling room on pretty much every floor I think.

I'm not sure where they are at OKW, but I ma sure that if you asked at the front desk, they'd tell you. They are probably also noted on the resort maps.

post this on the fridge

NOTICE " TO ALL OWNERS, RENTERS AND CASH PAYING GUESTS OF ANY DVC RESORT"

a service fee of $50 will be added ( each time) to your bill for any trash left out in the hallway that HK has to remove. These are upscale resorts and we would like to keep them as such.

Now all we need to do is figure out what room did it so we can bill correctly.

Maybe MS can add this notice onto the paperwork we get at check-in ( IN BIG PRINT)

Well, you could have left a friendly anonymous note asking them to take the garbage to the trash, telling them it's smelling up the hall. ;) I don't think I would ever move someones garbage. That's gross, but it's equically gross to keep seeing it outside my door. I wish DVC would leave an instruction sheet in the room, telling people how to handle this situation. I don't understand why anyone, renters or othewise, would treat a hotel/resort room any different than they would at home.

Maybe that's how they are at home also? Yuck! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/fie1.gif

The first time I saw this was at the BWV's over New Year's. I was amazed at how sloppy people can be but DVC doesn't go out of their way to stop people from doing it either. I called and complained and it kept happening.

I suggest that at check in, the system should be explained and where the garbarge dumpster is should be circled on a map. Then as paults says, charge a fee to offenders.

Funny, I had no idea where it was at OKW but knew to look.;)

The nice mousekeeping man saw me walk down the stairs with it and met me at the bottom and said "I'd be happy to take that for you"

:smooth: No garbage outside my door:smooth:

I hate it when people leave their trash in the hall, but something else irks me just about as much: Housekeeping leave room service trays sitting out for hours on end. Some pretty rotten smells come off those platters.

Hmmm ... ever think of just calling their room (there is no caller ID or *69 on Disney phones) and telling them that trash is picked up during full housekeeping or trash/tidy days only (and inside the room)? If that doesn't suit them then taking it to the dumpster is the other option open to them - not leaving it in the hall.

As long as you point it out nicely, most people understand the error of their ways and correct the situation.

The contract doesn't specifically say they have to take their own trash to the bin, does it? Why should they be concerned with being considerate to other guests, shouldn't they just do whatever they want regardless of how it impacts others? Heck with everyone else, it's all about them and their vacation being easier, right?

I would not have been happy to walk outside my room and see someone's trash either, but maybe that is what they thought they were supposed to do with the trash and did not know about the trash rooms for trash disposal. I think the DVC resorts should supply this information more clearly to their guest with the info given at check in, then there would be no excuse for this.

..At least we can be thankfull that 62.5% of the rooms don't have trash outside their doors :-)

Don't give them any ideas...... silly me, I thought I should try not to hang my confederate flag and undies out on the railing, and try to refrain from how often I pee in the pool, little did I know that I don't need to refrain 62.5% of the time.....

I would like to think that folks are not intentionally slobby like that. Maybe other timeshare condo-style units they have stayed in have had that as a rule...put your trash outside the door in the AM and someone will pick it up.

I agree that it is a piece of information that should be reviewed at check-in, and the locations of the trash/recycling rooms should be pointed out on the resort map. After they point out your room, they can point out the closest trash/recycling area to your room. They can be told NOT to put it outside the door.

As for the people you encountered, I probably would have either called or slipped a note under the door telling them where the trash room was located, and pointing out that there was no pickup for trash left outside the door of the unit.

I like hanging the trash on their doorknob. I have done this a couple times. This even happens at OKW. Can you believe that?

I was shocked.

Here is a good way to do the phone call thing. Call and say "This is Chip at the front desk. You seem to think we have daily trash pick up. We don't, the dumpsters are located in convient location all aroud the resort, you can stop by the Front Desk and a map will be provided"

The second time, 2:00 am is good.

Maybe they are rented housekeepers! LOL
sorry....couldn't resist!

Now, I don't own (hope to tho after our next trip) and I haven't rented, but perhaps they were first-timers who didn't know or somehow missed how to dispose of trash. Maybe since other people kept throwing away their trash out of the hallway, they assumed housekeeping (or whoever) picked it up. They may not have known it was other guests.
I personally think that if it was that much of a problem, why not make a friendly call to the front desk and tell them that perhaps the people in room *** doesn't know the trash policy and could someone please remind them.
I also think it's unfair to assume they are renters. I'm sure they are given the same policy information as any owners and if not, than that was the partly fault of the owners for not given them all the information.
I also wouldn't like to think that people think that owners are somehow a better "class" than renters because that just isn't right........

Not that I disagree with anyone here, but I think that housekeepin' should be responsible for informing these folks once it happens. For instance, how about a door handle flyer thingie informing the folks of where or how to properly dispose of their garbage?

I don't think that it's up to us to 'police' the other fellow vacationers, but I darn sure feel it's very inconsiderate.
